It’s been a long while since I’ve fallen in love with Qin Lan. Thank you drama!! 😭 It’s my first time seeing Wei Da Xun as his character and not Wei Da Xun! 👏👏👏 It’s one of the rare times the sismance edges out the romances.

In order of importance:

Cases & Scriptwriting: Patient turnover is high, approximately one per episode. The script is both cognizant and emotionally charging, but never too heavy because they happen in short spurts. There’s also an undertone of feminism. For the unfairness the girls receive, they reply with their professionalism. I love the added level of connectedness when the scriptwriter eloquently pairs the patient to an attending doctor with similar experiences. For example (Spoilers!) Tang Jia Yu with Director Liu’s wife (don’t expect all patients to be wearing downs), Long Xiang Dong with an IPV victim, Jiang Bai Li with a grandfather, etc).
Sismance. Tang Jia Yu and Ouyang Zhen Yu are the main characters for me. Tang Jia Yu is a surgical genius and even more surgical with her words. Calm and lethal. Ouyang Zhen Yu is a robot and a motae solo. She’s demandingly meticulous to the point that everyone dreads her presence. So imagine how cute it is when Ouyang Zhen Yu asks Tang Jia Yu to be friends. I'm particularly fond of Ouyang Zhen Yu. She may look emotionless, but she’s addicted to romance!
Team. Tang Jia Yu doesn’t just operate on hearts. She steals ‘em with her aura and expertise. Five of them! Watch her convert her team of gossipy boys into her gossipy fanboys. She’s awesome and everyone acknowledges it. The guys aren’t mindless followers, they each have their charm, struggles and beliefs. When I started the drama, I recognized most of the male actors for their villain roles in other shows, and so watching them all be cute, funny, and faithful is unexpectedly awesome.
Romance. It’s tame. It’s not a lot either (<10%), but each time the couples are on the screen, I’m happy their relationship progresses a bit more. First couple: Ye Yi Ming is friendly, but keeps his distance with everyone, except Tang Jia Yu. He goes out of his way to help her, give her food, etc. I like his soft gazes. He’s the caring guy outside of work and the brilliant guy with the innovative ideas at work. And bonus points for the writer for never mentioning age when I think this is supposed to be a jiejie romance. Second couple: Ouyang Zhen Yu (the robot) finds love in a self-absorbed nerdy scientist, that is if they don't butt heads. These two are the romcom-y couple. Cute and funny!

A flaw. The patient’s stories end abruptly at times. Maybe there’s a scene or two afterwards, but that’s it. Sometimes, I want to know more, and there’s just none. I almost wish drama dared to be emotionally heavier – make us bawl. Anyway, I’ll give Show points for consistency. After all, this is a drama that specializes in cardiac surgery, once the surgery is over, our surgeon’s job is complete.

Bonus bonus point: Drama has been vaccinated. None of that COVID-19 here.
