Genre Guide

Only common genres are included. The goal of this list is to be as concise and as comprehensive as possible. 

Contemporary: Modern day dramas (in modern clothes)
Period: Costume dramas 
Wuxia: Mortal martial heroes [Humans]
Xianxia: Immortal heroes [Gods]
Qihuan: Fantastical/magical heroes [Im/mortal heroes with special powers]

Romantic Mood
Romcom¹: Inherent silliness and/or lightheartedness in the romance and the drama. Drama does not take itself too seriously. 
Romance¹: Romance that is not a romcom; more maturity in the romance
Slight Romance: Small traces of romance in the main couple not pivotal to the story
No Romance: No romance or negligible romance in supporting characters.
BL: Boy-boy love 
Setting:
School: Main drama events revolve around school 
Palace: Main drama events revolves around the palace 
Relationships:
Bromance²: Strong guy-guy friendship
Sismance²: Strong girl-girl friendship 
Team²: Strong team-building in the drama
Family²: Main drama events revolve around family relationships
The Rest:
Action: Main genre is action (NOT that there is "some" action scenes in the drama))
Comedy: Strong comedic element (independent of the romance)
History: Drama events follows real history
Fantasy: Includes Time travel, Supernatural, Cats-Human transformations, Body-Swaps
OWYM: Older-Woman-Younger-Man romance is present with the main characters 
Mystery: Detective element; cases are being solved
Sports: Includes esports 
Suspense: Umbrella genre to include thriller, psychological, crime, spy, etc. Many Republican Spy dramas will be here. 

Notes
  1. There is ambiguity between romcom and romance. 
  2. Relationships are included only if the drama has a strong focus on it. For example, not all dramas are family dramas just because a few episodes focus on a family moment.
