2020. The drama begins with a marriage between our main charancters. Jiang Zheng Han is the groom who's picking up his bride, Xia Lin Xi, but Gu Xiao Man (the bridesmaid) is making it difficult. She asks him when he fell in love with her. He says it was six years ago and so we rewind back six years ago, their last year in high school and their first meeting.
2014. Xia Lin Xi overslept for the exams but she's still the year's top student. She is also the class president in charge of looking for two students who's skipping class on the first day: Zhang Huai Wu and Jiang Zheng Han; both of whom are last in the class. She finds Zhang Huai Wu at the internet cafe and happens to get herself involved in his fight. She's a lone girl protecting him against three thugs. In comes the boss of the place who settles the matter for then but everything he does, he charges Zhang Huai Wu for it. Xia Lin Xi calls him stingy; he might as well charge for breathing as well. Zhang Huai Wu has no money so Xia Lin Xi pays for him via WeChat and that's how she discovers he's the second missing student: Jiang Zheng Han. Unlike Zhang Huai Wu, Jiang Zheng Han isn't willing to return to school with her. Thus, Xia Lin Xi orders Zhang Huai Wu to temporarily cut the power to his cafe. For what you may ask. To steal his laptop. Xia Lin Xi takes his laptop as hostage to make him attend class.
Qin Yue is a senior of two years who attends the first day of class to give a speech to the students. He reminds Xia Lin Xi they have a promise to meet in university. I like Yuan Hao but I hate his hair here. I hate the dubbing voice even more. Why is the dubber using such a slimy tone?
Jiang Zheng Han is back in class. As he walks to his seat, he kicks Xia Lin Xi's table leg. He wants his laptop back. She's guilty though, his laptop is confiscated by the teacher and so she avoids him like a plague.
[Ep2] The Girl Who Was Tamed By A Liar
2020. Jiang Zheng Han's answer of when he fell in love with Xia Lin Xi is wrong according to Xia Lin Xi. Gu Xiao Man punishes him to do thirty push-ups. He asks for mercy. He wants to leave his strength for tonight, heh. To make up for his wrong answer he has to tell everyone his first impression of her. He says she's full of tricks and is like a tail that he can't fling off. Everyone is confused at his description because that’s the opposite of her image. There’s a knowing smile between them as he reveals that’s the her that only he knows.
2014. To avoid Jiang Zheng Han, Xia Lin Xi locks herself in the washroom. He patiently waits until she obediently comes out. It's his turn to steal her notebook (that Qin Yue gave) as hostage to threaten her to help him retrieve his laptop back from the teacher's office. To avoid the camera, Jiang Zheng Han uses an insta photo of the school hallway to cover up the camera so the security guards won't notice. Xia Lin Xi is a bit of a coward and is still wary of the camera. She takes her backpack to cover herself up. Jiang Zheng Han teases her by copying her posture. She hits him.
The entire time they're retrieving his laptop, he doesn't actually need her. He kept her at his side only to tease her. With her notebook still in his hand, he jumps up and places it on top of the ceiling lights that are hanging down. Woah, is that jump for real? Basically it's to warn her to stop being nosy. He escapes through the window. Xia Lin Xi is caught in his stead. Being the top student, she can easily lie out of it and the teachers will believe her.
When Xia Lin Xi arrives home, her mother has hired her a university student as a tutor. It's none other than Jiang Zheng Han – but he introduces himself as Jiang Zheng Ri. LOL. It's funny because "Han" = Cold and "Ri" = Hot. There's no way any sane person will fall for that. He goads her to engage in a bet with him. If he can beat her to solving an exam question then she has to admit defeat and accept him as her tutor. Xia Lin Xi finishes the question first within a minute thirty second. However, Jiang Zheng Han isn't slow, he just solved the question three times in three different ways. He really is that smart. There's a second round of who's the fastest at solving a Rubik's cube. He is. Thus, Xia Lin Xi calls him Teacher Jiang from now on (or at least when he's her tutor). Jiang Zheng Han wants to keep the Rubik's cube. He says he's being gracious to rid the cube from her sight. He just wants to keep a memory of her.
Jiang Zheng Han continues to delay paying his fees for his new school uniform (he's a transfer student). Xia Lin Xi is assigned the task to make him pay. Wherever he goes, she tails him.
2020. Jiang Zheng Han does his thirty push-ups. His groomsmen ask Xia Lin Xi for her first impression of Jiang Zheng Han. She answers that he's a liar, an idiot, and a miser.
2014. Jiang Zheng Han makes a sharp turn on his bike to get rid of Xia Lin Xi. She trips on her bike. Jiang Zheng Han goes back to find her. He smirks at her who's on the floor and whose cheeks are greasy from the bike chains. The more she wipes with her hand, the darker her cheeks get. Jiang Zheng Han does his best to contain his laughter. He did fall in love with her in their third year. Why's the answer wrong? Unless she never knew he loved her that early. Xia Lin Xi calls him back to help her. He does. However, he charges her for everything, even the wet napkin he just gave her. Miser, check.
Xia Lin Xi follows him all the way to work. She stretches her hand out for the money. He takes her empty palm and shakes her hand. He then gives her food and tells her to be good. He also has a nickname for her: Little Tail. She's his new pet dog.
Jiang Zheng Han's textbook is confiscated. The teacher gives the book for Xia Lin Xi to hold onto. He wants it back from her but she won't until he pays up for the school uniform. He doesn't. He also gets called away. Xia Lin Xi continues to tail him all the way to this home of a single mother. She learns the reason why Jiang Zheng Han doesn't have money. His father owned a factory but an employee burned it down by accident and died. Some of the other employees died too and some injured. His father went bankrupt but continued to provide for his employees. Like father like son, Jiang Zheng Han is a loyal one and cares for these families. There's an old lady he gives money too as well as this single mother.
Cute moment: Xia Lin Xi doesn't know how to peel shrimp (or anything that has shells). Jiang Zheng Han smirks at her. He was peeling some for the little girl, and he might as well, out of complete convenience, peel some for her too.
The single mother is leaving the city. That was the last dinner with them. Jiang Zheng Han is upset. He takes out that anger on Xia Lin Xi who keeps tailing him. She starts to cry. She's doing all this for him and all she gets is a harsh lecture from him. Jiang Zheng Han walks off but realizes he was wrong. He walks back and gives her a bandaid for the cut in her palm. He even puts it on for her. His pocket has everything. Reminds me of Doraemon's pocket. His blue and white clothes match too, hehe. He thanks her for returning his book. Xia Lin Xi also gives him his uniform that she bought for him. He smiles at it and wonders how she knows her size. "My math is good," she says. Nah, she guessed. She also tells him to give her extra tutoring lessons, that way her mother will give him extra pay.
[Ep4] At The Age When We're Naive: "Love is Happiness"
2020. Zhang Huai Wu stands up for Jiang Zheng Han to give him some dignity. Gu Xiao Man says Xia Lin Xi is an angel saving all the girls from him. Zhang Huai Wu counters that Xia Lin Xi willing gave herself to him. He then riles the crowd to urge them to kiss and kiss they do.
2014. Jiang Zheng Han changes into his suit getup to tutor Xia Lin Xi. He overhears her parents arguing. Not even earphones can block out the sound of their voices.
Time to introduce Chen Yi Chuan. I kind of ignored him but he's getting pretty annoying that I have to talk about him. He's Xia Lin Xi's cousin in the same class. He's always looking to beat her but never does. He happens to see Jiang Zheng Han mingling with these 'thugs'. These thugs then bully him and steal his pair of Air Jordan's. Had it not been Jiang Zheng Han who helped him get it back, he would have to walk home barefooted. However, he stubbornly believes that Jiang Zheng Han is with the thugs. When the thugs are at school gates to sabotage Jiang Zheng Han, Chen Yi Chuan serves as witness. The principal won't give Jiang Zheng Han time to explain himself. Jiang Zheng Han angrily leaves. Everyone thinks he's a delinquent. It's an uphill battle where there's just no way up. But one girl will lend him a hand.
Xia Lin Xi investigates into the thugs and goes to Jiang Zheng Han's internet cafe to ask around. The people there tell her that those thugs are this mafia's underlings. Thus, Xia Lin Xi, a naive and brave soul, enters into this mafia's territory. Jiang Zheng Han belatedly learns from his cafe buddies that "Mrs. Zheng" went to find the mafia for him. They call Jiang Zheng Han 'Brother Zheng' (Zheng Ge) and so his wifey is naturally called Mrs. Zheng.
Jiang Zheng Hang protects Xia Lin Xi in front of the mafia boss but she assures him she has everything under control. She used probability to predict at how the mafia boss can win. With her guidance, the mafia boss wins. Happily, he tells Jiang Zheng Han that Xia Lin Xi is a good girl and to treat her well.
Xia Lin Xi is rather proud of herself but Jiang Zheng Han hollers at her. He's worried about her.
Xia Lin Xi hollers back: You think I want to be in a place like this. I'm doing this for you! Zheng Ge! Remember your student identity. If you're wrongly accused, you should explain yourself. Why pretend to be cool. He is touched especially when she said she's doing this for him. But he tells her to mind her own business; he doesn't need her to worry about his life that shouldn't matter to her. You are (f-ing) amazing. The small you is skipping class to provide for the old and young. You really are courageous. I really don't need to worry about you. But "responsibility" is doing the right thing at the right age; respecting elders. You told me you were going to protect yourself, but are you being responsible for your future self?Jiang Zheng Han can't mutter a retort. Don't come here anymore. On the way here, I was really worried about you.Xia Lin Xi: Then tomorrow, apologize to the teachers, and do it sincerely.
Jiang Zheng Han is a like a kid being lectured by her. The tension between them breaks when he laughs at her. She laughs too. The next day he obediently shows up in the teacher's office. Principal Zhang knows that he was set up but still wants to transfer him to another class. He is about to counter but remembers to be polite because of Xia Lin Xi. He doesn’t want to be transferred because that would mean a separation from Xia Lin Xi. Principal Zhang agrees on a condition for him to stay: he must rank within the 100th in the next test. Chen Yi Chuan snorts that there’s no way he can. He will do frog laps if he’s wrong.
Xia Lin Xi asks Jiang Zheng Han if he’s confident he can rank well. He says he isn’t. Way too modest. She offers to extend their tutoring class so she can tutor him. So she’s making her mother pay him so she can tutor him lol. Jiang Zheng Han refuses her kind offer. He can study on his own. Meanwhile she has to increase her physicality to run 800m within a time limit so that she earns extra credit to enter the university of her choice.

2020. Zhang Huai Wu calls Xia Lin Xi awful for hiding her heels under her blanket. It’s one of the traditions to hide the bride’s heels. She cutely whines to Jiang Zheng Han that his groomsmen called her awful. Immediately on cue, Jiang Zheng Han announces a pay cut for him. He's a boss, eh. Zhang Huai Wu threatens that he won’t give them her heels then but will reconsider if they answer his father’s question (his father is Principal Zhang): Did they date early? Our goody-two-shoes says she would never. Jiang Zheng Han also denies it.
2014. Xia Lin Xi visits Jiang Zheng Han at his secret hideout (it's a study room located right above the internet cafe). He's happy to see her. Inside his room, she spots her Rubik's cube. He has so many she wonders why he would want hers. He lies says that it's a reminder of his victory. She also spots a mini-Doraemon in his room. Omg. Doraemon does appear. She used to love Doraemon but her mother confiscated all her belongings related to it so she could focus on studying. He gives her the Doraemon and tells her to use it to make her wishes.
As Jiang Zheng Han settles down into studying, Xia Lin Xi starts a conversation.
Xia Lin Xi: When I first met you, I really hated you.Jiang Zheng Han turns around and smirks: What does that mean? You love me now?
She ignores him and continues sincerely about her sentiments. That was her before knowing him. She knows he's good-natured and righteous. But he's too nice and he doesn't like depending on others. She reminds him he's only eighteen. He doesn't have to tire himself endlessly like that. He can ask for help. Xia Lin Xi earnestly suggests to him, "We can go through this together."
He returns the compliments. She's a good student, a genius but he knows she's purposely striving for perfection for her parents. She’s extra good because she doesn't want them to divorce. Her smile disappears and he knows he said the wrong thing. She acknowledges that he's right, except the fact that she's a genius. She works hard for her marks.
The topic changes to his textbook that he keeps reading. It's to help with his coding for his security system app. She then asks him if he thought of university. He hasn't. She casually tells him to consider going to the same university as her. He's way too happy about it but he doesn't show it at all. He only tells her oh-so-calmly that he can consider it. She whines for him to give her a pinky promise. He calls her childish. She claims it's meaningful. In this secret place, they're making a secret promise. He gives in and gives her the pinky-promise with a stamp on it. "一言為定" It's a deal.

While Xia Lin Xi helps Jiang Zheng Nan study, he trains her for her 800m run. She falls asleep during recess and he walks over to cover the sun from her. But he also teases her by repeatedly moving his hand away. He then makes his silhouette hover over her face to look like he's kissing her. Aw. She is fast asleep knowing absolutely nothing.
When a motorcycle zooms by Xia Lin Xi, Jiang Zheng Nan catches her but only he notices their proximity. They're walking to school and she's worried about his exam. He brushes her nose casually to assure he'll be fine. She notices the touch; he doesn't though. Yes, they definitely didn't date early. They just fell in love early. From her pocket, she fishes out his Doraemon and tells him she made a wish. She won't tell him the wish, though.
Zhang Huai Wu steals the answers for the test for Jiang Zheng Nan. Chen Yi Chuan spots them acting fishy. Jiang Zheng Nan was trying to push the answers back Zhang Huai Wu. Fortunately, this doesn't become an issue. Jiang Zheng Nan successfully ranks within the 100s. Chen Yi Chuan was initially fed up but when he overhears that Jiang Zhen Nan did help him with the thugs, he realizes he misunderstood Jiang Zheng Nan. Being a man of his words, he does his frog laps for all the students to witness. Jiang Zheng Nan acknowledges him.
[Ep6] Graduation; Separation?
Aw, there's no more wedding scenes.
There's a huge misunderstanding that Chen Yi Chuan gave Gu Xiao Man a love letter. It was a thank you letter because she helped him overcome his misunderstanding of Jiang Zheng Nan. The teachers think it's a love letter thanks to Gu Xiao Man admitting they're dating (kinda). Lol. A classmate teases them and he goes overboard infuriating Chen Yi Chuan. A fight starts between the boys. The teacher pulls them in for a talk. With Xia Lin Xi and Jiang Zheng Nan teaming up with their story, they make Chen Yi Chuan the victim and blame it all on the snarky boy who started the fight.
All is well until a call from Jiang Zheng Nan's mom arrives. His expression changes. The content of the call remains unknown. After the tutor lesson, he makes a feast for Xia Lin Xi (her mother is out). She's once again impressed with his cooking. She gives him 99 points. She's withholding the last point, afraid he'll be too arrogant. She's curious why he's this nice to her. It's actually his last day as her tutor. He has to leave.
At the doorstep, Xia Lin Xi tugs onto Jiang Zheng Nan's sleeve begging him to stay. He can't. He leaves. Once he's gone, Xia Lin Xi spots her mother from afar. Her mother saw their exchange. She's furious as she learns everything about Jiang Zheng Nan being a high school student and that her daughter might be dating him. Her mother complains to the school but the teacher assures her it won't be a problem anymore...
Jiang Zheng Nan is no longer in class anymore. Omg. Why. What did his mother say to him! Through the cafe owner, Xia Lin Xi learns he's going to leave the city today. As she's running out to catch him, she bumps into the mafia boss who willingly drives her on his motorbike to catch Jiang Zheng Nan. He promises her he'll catch him for her for sure and calls him an idiot for letting go of such a girl. Xia Lin Xi spots Jiang Zheng Nan on the bus. her. He doesn't open the window for her tp talk to him. There's tears in his eyes. She cries out, "Don't leave. Please?" He blinks away his tears and finally opens the window to tell her to leave. Xia Lin Xi brings out the Doraemon and reveals she had wish for his exam success now she wants to wish for him to stay. He doesn't. Through his voiceover he tells us that he'll remember their promise. A heartbroken Xia Lin Xi doesn't know he's thinking of her too.
Xia Lin Xi's grades have gone down. She's practically in a heartbreak. She manages to pick herself back up before the exams. And it's already graduation. The students have a get together and after a few drinks she's drunk and wanders alone. She mutters to herself, "I don't want to be in pain anymore. I don't want to think about him anymore. He already disappeared from my memories."
A little tipsy, she trips. Someone catches her, it's Jiang Zheng Han. Is he really back?? Is she dreaming?? She slaps his face. He really is back. That reaction of his, lol.
Jiang Zheng Han is a little surprised from the slap: What are you doing?Xia Lin Xi: I can't hit the real you, so can't I hit my hallucination of you?
Smiling, he lets her hit him once more. She doesn't want to anymore. She doesn't want to listen to him. As she's walking away, he tells her to wait. She finds him annoying, "Did you think that without you, I wouldn't be able to live on? I tell you, without you, I am happy like it's New Years every day. I can do 200 questions a day and I won't feel tired." Sounds like a heartbreak. Jiang Zheng Han apologizes to her.
Xia Lin Xi: You don't have to be sorry. Everything I did for you was at my own will. I never thought you would be moved or change. – Sniffles – You already left me anyways. You already disappeared from my memory.
From standing behind her watching her cry, he moves right in front of her. Girl, you can't forget him, not when that handsome face with that perfect lighting fills your vision.
Jiang Zheng Han: Xia Lin Xi, I dare you to forget me.
He holds onto her, pulls her close, and slowly moves in to kiss her. She clutches onto his shirt, reality dons on her that he's real. Or is he?
[Ep7] Eighteen Years Old is a Dividing Line
Xia Lin Xi wakes up in the morning uncertain whether kissing Jiang Zheng Han was real. No one can confirm for her. She's also distracted with her marks that's supposed to come out today. Hers came out a minute after Chen Yi Chuan. He boasts at his 711-mark to her but when hers are out, he shuts up. It's 712. With these marks, she can easily enter the top university of her choice, Beijing University (so does her friend Gu Xiao Man).
Jiang Zheng Han is heading to Beijing too! He didn't forget his promise with Xia Lin Xi. He also knows Qin Yue. Jiang Zheng Han wants to text Xia Lin Xi that he's in Beijing too but he doesn't have the courage. She too had typed out a message to him to share that she's in Beijing Uni but she couldn't send it.
Xia Lin Xi is at university. A senior makes a move on her. Qin Yue saves her. Xia Lin Xi overhears that Qin Yue is barely nice to any girl except her. He even walks her into her dorm. When Xia Lin Xi introduces him to her new dormmates, she’s clearly avoiding mentioning that he’s her boyfriend or anything, just that they’re childhood friends. Her dormmate, Zhuang Fei, is a wallflower who’s pretty much invisible to everyone.
This annoying senior makes another move on Xia Lin Xi. A bike zooms by right when she tells him off that she has a boyfriend. It's Jiang Zheng Han! He tells the senior to buzz off. She recognizes the back of his head and his signature buzz cut before he even turns around. Her eyes tear up and she angrily leaves. He follows her and tells her that his disappearance was so that he can appear in front of her again.
Xia Lin Xi: Who do you think you are? Someone who can just disappear and reappear on his own?
She storms off. He shouts and asks if she really has a boyfriend. All she tells him is that it’s none of his business.
[Ep8] Something That You Can't Withhold is Called "Love".
Xia Lin Xi belatedly learns Jiang Zheng Han had a speciality admission because he won a competition. It was Qin Yue who gave him the chance. He had urged him to consider university and not just focus on earning money for his father's surgery.
Xia Lin Xi is next up on stage to give her speech as the top student. She brushes right by Jiang Zheng Han, not sparing him a single glance. He chases her after her speech. He tells her he never forget their promise. She only has one question for him: are they coworkers or are they friends. Is there a third option, like lover? He takes a second to answer her that they’re friends. She’s angry at him for leaving without a word. Friends don’t do that. He panics and tells her that his dad has a surgery and he was in the competition where his phone was confiscated. She’s barely listening to him. This explanation doesn’t erase all the pain she’s been through because of his sudden disappearance. She really valued him (beyond a normal friend, I must add).
When Xia Lin Xi is back in her room, she searches him up and confirms he didn’t lie. From her notebook, a button rolls out. Was this the button from the kiss that night? When she clutched onto his shirt.
The next morning, Jiang Zheng Han follows Qin Yue’s advice to buy breakfast and walk there to class. But Xia Lin Xi doesn’t eat the breakfast he buys. In comes all his buddies from his department. They call her “Di Mei” (a title for little bro’s wife) and show her his precious notebook to confirm that she indeed is “Di Mei”. It’s full of her pictures and news about her. There’s also a heart formula. Jiang Zheng Han doesn’t even get to confess and it’s already exposed. He probably wants to smack his head against a pole and die right there from the embarrassment.
Well, since Jiang Zheng Han’s love for her is exposed, he openly saves Xia Lin Xi a seat in her class. There’s a big board with her name on the seat in the usual spot she likes. It’s too embarrassing and she doesn’t want to sit there but with him making scene, she takes the seat. He happily leaves (he’s not in this class). A late Zhuang Fei runs into glass and bumps into Jiang Zheng Han. He accidentally glows a smile and Zhuang Fei’s heart is struck with love. I feel for her!
That senior makes a move on Xia Lin Xi again! It’s Jiang Zheng Han who’s her hero. She had rejected the senior but he wants her to drink with him before she leaves. Jiang Zheng Han takes her drinks for her and forces the senior to drink more than he can handle. Xia Lin Xi holds him back. He smiles and ask her if she cares about him now. She calls him an idiot and leaves him. However, as she leaves, she indirectly tells Gu Xiao Man to watch over him.
Later that night, Gu Xiao Man urgently tells Xia Lin Xi that the senior is bring four other buddies to drink against Jiang Zheng Han. Xia Lin Xi was determined to not care but she shows up anyways. When you can’t withhold it, it’s called love, says the title of this episode. He smiles and tells her she went back on her words (of not caring about him). He walks up to her and she loses her balance. He catches her before she falls.

Before Xia Lin Xi fell backward from his advances, he had said this ...
Jiang Zheng Han: Lin Xi, when I didn't contact you in the past it was wrong of me. I didn't know if I could be accepted to Beijing University, but for you, my desire was deep. I was afraid that if I contacted you then I wouldn't be able to concentrate my all for the competition and that was my only chance. Lin Xi, can you forgive me?
After catching her, she quickly regains her balance and turns around. Her tension loosens up.
Jiang Zheng Han belatedly learns that Qin Yue had dinner with the girl he likes yesterday but she had to leave before they even sat down for dinner. Qin Yue vows that he'll confess to her on her birthday right in front of Jiang Zheng Han. Oh my. Jiang Zheng Han is such a faithful person, I'm afraid he'll give her up for his buddy.
Xia Lin Xi is a little jealous when Zhuang Fei starts texting Jiang Zheng Han (or more like when he starts replying her). Thus, she ignores his text about his stomach cramps. But not for long. She rummages around her dorm to prepare congee/medication (I can't tell what it is, she says it's med) for him with her new steamer that she has no idea how to function (it needs to be plugged into the wall...). Her medication is also burnt. Chu Qiu Yan tells her that it's the thought that matters and advises Xia Lin Xi to give it to the person she wants anyways. They attend class and Jiang Zheng Han is surrounded by fellow students who care about him (thanks to a few seniors who call for help). He kindly declines their kindness. When he spots Xia Lin Xi in class, he walks over to her and spots the thermos. Thankfully, Chu Qiu Yan yanks it out of Xia Lin Xi's hands to give it to Jiang Zheng Han. Aw. Jiang Zheng Han smiles sheepishly and takes it back to his dorm. He actually eats this weird concoction. Will he have to go to the hospital after this?
Chu Qiu Yan is team Jiang Zheng Han. She tells him shes knows that Xia Lin Xi is looking for a club to join, thus Jiang Zheng Han makes an impromptu Math Club. He makes it look like there's a battle to be admitted. As they're competing on who can solve the question faster, he peeks over at her with love and purposely slows down so she can win. To her delight, Xia Lin Xi is admitted. The next day she shows up for the club meeting and only Jiang Zhang Han is there. That's when she learns that this club only has two members: her and him. She storms off but she's actually smiling.
[Ep10] I Only Wanted To Talk To You
Jiang Zheng Han's seniors makes a public post declaring Jiang Zheng Han and Xia Lin Xi are an item. Xia Lin Xi doesn't like being in the spotlight at all, especially not like this. When she demands to speak to him privately, he knows he's in trouble. But..
Jiang Zheng Han: Can you pretend that this is the first time I'm confessing to you? Towards you, I'm serious.Xia Lin Xi is taken back.Xia Lin Xi. I don't want to be your high school student. I don't want to be your friend. Qin Yue interrupts. With his appearance and attitude, Jiang Zheng Han realizes they both like the same girl. The boys agree on competing fairly. Thank god Jiang Zheng Han isn't backing down. But Jiang Zheng Han asks what is winning? He likes Xia Lin Xi and that's a fact.
The girls are watching a movie and there's a crying scene but Xia Lin Xi is smiling. She's thinking of Jiang Zheng Han's confession. Zhuang Fei is jealous of Xia Lin Xi (from the public post) and throws a fit at everyone in the dorm. Her grades are also inferior to Xia Lin Xi making her jealously grow evermore.
Jiang Zheng Han's professor joins in on helping Jiang Zheng Han pursue Xia Lin Xi, lol.
Zhang Huai Wu runs in to Jiang Zheng Han's dorm and jumps him to hug him. Duan Ning (uni friend) looks jealous. LOL. Zhang Huai Wu wants to move in to his dorm. Duan Ning reluctantly agrees. Jiang Zheng Han is loved by everyone, male or female. Chen Yi Chuan (the other roommate) was a bit more difficult to deal with but he permits it too.
It's Xia Lin Xi's birthday. Qin Yue is hosting it. He purposely doesn't invite Jiang Zheng Han because he wanted to confess to her. However Jiang Zheng Han hacks the rooftop restaurant's big screen TV. It's a live confession. He tells her to wait for him as he riding his bike. Through the live broadcast, everyone sees his bike crash. Lin Xi runs to him leaving Qin Yue behind.
[Ep11] That "First Kiss" Should Just Die (If anyone has a better way to translate this, I'm very willing to change this)
Xia Lin Xi runs to Jiang Zheng Han. He's okay. He takes the button out. From Chu Qiu Yan, he learned Xia Lin Xi kept one too. However, one sentence from him about afraid of losing to Qin Yue makes her angry. She doesn't like being a "prize" to them.
It's Jiang Zheng Han's professor who plays cupid now. He invites Xia Lin Xi to join the Math Club. He does actually believe she has potential and assigns her mentor to be Jiang Zheng Han. Initially, Jiang Zheng Han refused (afraid she'd be awkward), but Xia Lin Xi forces a smile and calls him Teacher Jiang. Jiang Zheng Han keeps his smile minimal.
Last episode it was Zhuang Fei giving Xia Lin Xi the looks, now it's that girl who likes Qin Yue. She calls out Xia Lin Xi for getting in the club with connections. She'll only be pulling down her teammates.
Xia Lin Xi worries she'll negatively affect Jiang Zheng Han and wants to pull out. Jiang Zheng Han assures her he believes in her ability. She was still wavering but when Qin Yue starts to offer a spot on his team, she quickly clarifies she's already with Jiang Zheng Han.
Before training, Jiang Zheng Han and Xia Lin Xi need to replenish their nutrients and so he gives her a ton of meat for lunch. Zhang Huai Wu playfully steals her lunch. Jiang Zheng Han and him fight over it but Xia Lin Xi settles it. She picks out the drumstick (the best part) for Jiang Zheng Han and gives the rest to Zhang Huai Wu. She leaves to buy her own lunch. Zhang Huai Wu asks Jiang Zheng Han if he should call her Mrs. Zheng now. While studying, she's also lost in staring at him. He even had to tell her to focus. When Xia Lin Xi walks back to her dorms, Qin Yue is there to give her a USB (materials that will help her train). She refuses it reminding him they're opponents. She's drawing the line. So Jiang Zheng Han and Xia Lin Xi are unofficially official, eh.
It's the competition. Xia Lin Xi freaks out a bit. She doesn't even know her teammate is calling her Mrs. Zheng. Jiang Zheng Han notices and calmly tells her to focus. She's reminded of when he placed earphones on her when her parents argued. She's calmed. They win. Jiang Zheng Han was right to believe Qin Yue for not sabotaging their team when they had the chance.
Gu Xiao Man notices Chen Yi Chuan being upset (he's on Qin Yue's team). Xia Lin Xi sighs that Gu Xiao Man only has him in her eyes. Jiang Zheng Han perks in that he understands that feeling. His eyes are on hers.
New Character: Shen Wen Yue. She's particularly chummy with Jiang Zheng Han.
[Ep12*] The Sweet Kiss
Shen Wen Yue tempts Jiang Zheng Han with a ride on her motorcycle (which is also his favourite). Xia Lin Xi spots him on the bike with this girl and misunderstands. The celebratory dinner they were supposed to have is cancelled.
The professor organizes a night trip. Shen Wen Yue happens to be at the camping site as well. They gather to play a drinking game (Never Have I Ever). The statement is 'I never had my first kiss'. Jiang Zheng Han and Xia Lin Xi fold a finger. Shen Wen Yue also folds while smiling at Jiang Zheng Han. She had her first kiss at six with Jiang Zheng Han which she proudly reveals to the crowd. He doesn't remember it at all.
Xia Lin Xi drinks a ton that night. Jiang Zheng Han asks who gave her the courage to drink so much. Being a little drunk, she yells back that it's him. She complains that just when she gathered her courage to accept him, he spilled it all. Jiang Zheng Han smiles. He holds her still and starts explaining his first kiss was with her. He doesn't remember anything about Shen Wen Yue. They're only friends from grade school until he moved (they reunited at a competition).
Xia Lin Xi: Do you know magic? With just a touch, my heart feels like it's going to jump out.
Hearing that, Jiang Zheng Han doesn't want her to drink anymore. He calls her dangerous (saying dangerous words and doing dangerous things). Xia Lin Xi tippytoes and kisses him. And that's the dangerous thing he had predicted. So both kisses are drunk kisses, at least from her end.
Xia Lin Xi is sober now. Jiang Zheng Han holds her hand. He asks her if she knows Doraemon's ending (I don't, so correct me if I interpreted incorrectly). Nobita tells Doraemon to go back to where he was originally from after he dies. When Nobita does die, Doraemon uses a time machine to go back to when Nobita was a kid and re-introduces himself there. What does this have to do with them? Jiang Zheng Han introduces himself to Xia Lin Xi, he adds that he only wants one identity: to be her boyfriend. In the future, he also wants to be her husband. He stretches his hand out to ask for her approval. She shakes it. It's a deal. Is this a proposal too? Lol. Xia Lin Xi plays along and introduces herself as well but he stops her. He tells her he already knows everything about her and her future (which will be with him, of course). Basically, Jiang Zheng Han is saying he's like Doraemon from the future and he's back in the past (well, present) to win her all over again. Very, very sweet!
[Ep13] A Relationship That Doesn't Owe One Other Anything Isn't a Good Relationship
Oh my god. These two. I can watch them do nothing and still smile.
The girls' paddle boat topples over. The boys jump in the water to rescue then. Although Jiang Zheng Nan was closer to Xia Lin Xi, he saved Shi Ying because compared to Qin Yue, he was closer to Shi Ying. Jiang Zheng Nan apologizes to Xia Lin Xi who appears to be angry but she's only pulling his leg. She thought his decision was correct.
Jiang Zheng Han and Xia Lin Xi watch a movie. She's worried the movie won't be good. Jiang Zheng Han doesn't care. It's not like he wanted to watch a movie anyways. He just wanted to spend time with her. During the movie, Jiang Zheng Han's professor calls him. She asks him if there's something important. Looking solemn, he tells her he needs to discuss something with her. He removes the armrest between them, goes by her ear, but then switches direction to give her a sweet peck instead. Xia Lin Xi's heart is fluttering. She can't look him in the eye as she tells him he didn't ask for her permission. Flustering, Jiang Zheng Han says he isn't familiar with this. He earnestly asks if it's too late to ask for permission. She still isn't looking at him but there's a smile on her lips as she tells him not being familiar isn't an excuse; when she got 100, she would never say she didn't practice. Jiang Zheng Han picked up on the main point of this: he got a 100 on that kiss, lol. She laughs and says he didn't pass. He takes her seriously and assures her it'll be better next time. Xia Lin Xi, still smiling, tells him he doesn't need her permission the next time. He looks at her. She turn her beautiful eyes to him. They kiss. He really wasn't here for the movie.
Zhuang Fei is so jealous she slaps Xia Lin Xi in the face out of nowhere in the middle of the night. Her face is all swollen and red. Consequently Xia Lin Xi moves out of the dorms. Jiang Zheng Han is practically the last person to find out she's moving. He's worried about her but also angry at her for not telling him. He reminds her she's not alone and doesn't push her to tell him more when she won't tell him who slapped her.
Second Couple: Gu Xiao Man limps her way to take care of a feverish Chen Yi Chuan. She lets her Snoopy watch over him. When he wakes up, he doesn't see Gu Xiao Man, he only sees Shu Ying visiting him. He thinks the Snoopy is from her.
[Ep14] Snoopy Represents My Heart
Jiang Zheng Han examines Xia Lin Xi's place for her and make notes of every safety precaution she needs to be aware of. He's still not content with her living on her own. He think she needs someone to take care of her. He suggests himself. She doesn't let him...until they're at least in their third year. He gives himself a victory pump. Any thought from her about living together is a victory for him.
As Xia Lin Xi is unpacking, he sees his Doraemon. He wants her to throw it away. He's envious that Doraemon can spend everyday with her and he can't.
Jiang Zheng Han stays late at Xia Lin Xi's place because he's worried about her. He's also staying up to finish his programming. He used to code to make money but now he enjoys it.
Xia Lin Xin give Jiang Zheng Han a present, It's a Macbook Air. She bought it with her scholarship money. He refuses it; it's too expensive. She rips the receipt right in front of him. He'll just resell it then. Upset, Xia Lin Xi threatens to throw it away if he does that. He smiles. He accepts the present but he gives her an I Owe You contract that detail he'll pay it back in five years with interest plus a ring (!) PLUS a marriage certification PLUUSS a house ownership. Everything will be paid in due. Signed Jiang Zheng Han. Shyly, she shoves him back the contract. He says it's his slave contract to her.
Xia Lin Xi smiles: Then I want a bit more interest.
Xia Lin Xi puckers her lip looking for a cheek to kiss but Jiang Zheng Han follows her lips with his lip, not giving her a cheek. AWWW. She gets his way, and gets his cheek
Jiang Zheng Han: If it's this type of interest, I don't mind giving more.
Jiang Zheng Han brushes her hair back and kisses her....but they're interrupted by Chen Yi Chuan who's ringing the doorbell. He still doesn't know about their relationship by the way.
Second Couple: Gu Xiao Man misunderstands again. When Chen Yi Chuan compliments the moon for being pretty, she thought it was a confession. Lol.
[Ep15] Childhood Sweetheart Cannot Overcome Heaven’s Fate
Chen Yi Chuan finds it suspicious there's a pair of men’s sneakers in Xia Lin Xi’s room. He searches all over the place but can’t find the man in question. Jiang Zheng Han was hiding in the balcony. They manage to escape Cha Yi Chuan.
Qin Yue’s wish from a year ago (when he was at the cafe with Xia Lin Xi) was to be her boyfriend. She had written one too but it was only to be his junior at Beijing University. He doesn’t give up though and asks her to be his partner at the university’s Halloween party right in front of Jiang Zheng Han. Since she’s keeping her relationship with Jiang Zheng Han a secret, she can’t refuse Qin Yue too obviously.
Jiang Zheng Han’s childhood sweetheart also makes a scene by using a megaphone to call him out to meet her. He leaves to meet Shen Wen Yue to tell her clearly he has a girlfriend. However, when Jiang Zheng Han returns, he sees Xia Lin Xi examining the dress Qin Yue bought for her. She’s apologetic to Jiang Zheng Han that she can’t make it too obvious to Qin Yue because he’s close to her family. Jiang Zheng Han is losing patience with the secrecy in their relationship.
At the day of the party, Xia Lin Xi gives Qin Yue the dress back and tells him she’s dating Jiang Zheng Han. Although they just started dating, she likes him a lot. Qin Yue asks her if he has a chance if Jiang Zheng Han hadn’t appeared. She answers that she can’t imagine not meeting Jiang Zheng Han.
Second Couple: Gu Xiao Man realizes she completely misunderstood. Chen Yi Chuan gave Shi Ying a snoopy necklace and not her. The clay rabbit present she made for Chen Yi Chuan is knocked to the ground when Chen Yi Chuan tried to leave. He coldly tells her to don’t bother picking up the shards. Duan Ning tries to save her from the embarrassment and kneels down to ask the beautiful Gu Xiao Man to be her partner for the party. I much rather she date Duan Ning.
[Ep16] A Jealous Boyfriend is The Cutest.
Jiang Zheng Han holes himself in his room and puts on his headphone to clear all the sounds. As a result, he’s not picking up his phone when Xia Lin Xi’s calls. She sneaks into his dormitory to give him a surprise. She gets a surprise instead. He’s in short boxers. He quickly puts on his pants. She turns around and tells him she told Qin Yue everything. He gives her a bag hug. They’re about to kiss when once again they’re interrupted by Chen Yi Chuan. He’s desperate to find Gu Xiao Man. He doesn’t care about them kissing. He already knew about them dating.
As Chen Yi Chuan and Jiang Zheng Han are searching for Gu Xiao Man, Jiang Zheng Han makes him realize that he likes Gu Xiao Man. Chen Yi Chuan doesn’t believe it. He also makes Jiang Zheng Han promise to keep this night a secret. Jiang Zheng Han promises on the condition that he keeps his relationship with Xia Lin Xi a secret. It’s a deal. Jiang Zheng Han gives him an advice. If he likes the girl, he can’t hesitate or be a coward; otherwise that girl will be someone else’s.
Shen Wen Yue challenges Xia Lin Xi to a programming battle because apparently that way it’ll show who’s a better match for Jiang Zheng Han. Xia Lin Xi accepts the battle but she loses. That doesn’t mean she feels inferior to Shen Wen Yue. Jiang Zheng Han’s girlfriend is her. She’ll also work hard to improve for the upcoming competition.
Qin Yue's father’s company is experiencing problems. Qin Yue wants Xu Zhi Li’s help but he’s only interested in recruiting Jiang Zheng Han. It’s the competition today and the winner will get an internship in this company that’s hosting the competition. Jiang Zheng Han is aiming for that. Thus, Xu Zhi Li wants Qin Yue to beat out Jiang Zheng Han so that he can work for his company instead. That’s his condition for helping Qin Yue’s company.
[Ep17] Any Amount of Honour Cannot Compare to Having You With Me
Jiang Zheng Han is impressed with Xia Lin Xi’s overnight improvement on coding. That’s why she was so confident when Shen Wen Yue taunted her prior to the competition. Shen Wen Yue asked her how she improved. Hard work. That’s how she got number one on the entrance exam. There’s a flashback to how Xia Lin Xi asked Chen Yi Chuan to train her. She really studied her butt off for this.
Jiang Zheng Han’s team wins first place (Qin Yue second and Shen Wen Yue third). His fangirls cheer for him to be their boyfriend. Jiang Zheng Han looks over at Xia Lin Xi and hangs the medal around her neck.
Jiang Zheng Han: From now on, all my honours are yours.
Since Qin Yue didn’t win against Jiang Zheng Han, Xu Zhi Li won’t meet up with him at all. Qin Yue’s company is still in deep waters meanwhile Xu Zhi Li is still working on nabbing Jiang Zheng Han. He uses his girlfriend (Chu Qiu Yan) to befriend Jiang Zheng Han. Jiang Zheng Han can’t listen to this obnoxious guy talk anymore so he leaves the table and pays the bill. Xia Lin Xi leaves with him. Shei offers to pay her part of the bill. Jiang Zheng Han doesn’t speak. She thinks she said something wrong. He’s not angry at her at all. He says he should be proud that she cares about him. He assures her his competition money is enough.
[Ep18] The Secret Love of the One’s Who Are Thrown Away
Shen Wen Yue officially gives up on Jiang Zheng Han. Zhang Huai Wu hurts for her because he likes her.
Chen Yi Chuan won’t admit he likes Gu Xiao Man when Duan Ning confronts him. Because of that, Gu Xiao Man accepts Duan Ning’s confession. Duan Ning doesn’t deserve to be someone’s spare tire.
Xia Lin Xi’s mother is trying to hook up Qin Yue with her daughter and that makes him tell her the truth about Xia Lin Xi dating Jiang Zheng Han. Immediately, mom visits Xia Lin Xi’s place to check if Jiang Zheng Han is living with her. She remembers him as the fake tutor. There’s no way mom would approve of him as her daughter’s boyfriend. Mom doesn’t find Jiang Zheng Han (because he doesn’t spend the night there) but she does find a his jean jacket. Chen Yi Chuan quickly claims the jacket is his. At night, mom invites Qin Yue to dinner. She’s obviously team Qin Yue. She motivates him to continue pursuing her daughter because she definitely won’t approve of Jiang Zheng Han.
Jiang Zheng Han broods over the whole mom thing. Chen Yi Chuan is team Jiang Zheng Han. He offers to keep an eye on Qin Yue for him if he watches over Duan Ning. It’s a deal.
It’s the winter break. Jiang Zheng Han and Xia Ling Xi won’t separate. Chen Yi Chuan rolls his eyes and leave. He’s like your train is just an hour apart. They’ll see each other soon anyways. Cuties.
At home, mom has prepared dinner with Qin Yue’s family. It’s obvious both parents want them married, except Xia Lin Xi’s dad who sees her daughter is against it. Qin Yue tries to make a move but Xia Lin Xi draws a hard line of friendship.
[Ep19] Over Mother-in-Law’s Wuzhi Mountain (one of the highest mountains in China)
Xia Lin Xi is bloated from anger after that dinner with Qin Yue’s family. She visits Jiang Zheng Han to complain all about it. He’s upset with her but he also cares if she’s hungry. He brings her to this specialty restaurant. It’s his home. He had this cute smile on when he shook his head, lying about this being his home to her. He’s bringing her to see his parents. She realizes it right before she enters and tries to run away. He wraps his around her to carry her in.
His family is all prepared for her visit. His mother made all her favourite food. Even his father knows she prefers milk over coke. She's weird. He’s been telling them everything about Xia Lin Xi. When his parents aren’t around she has a ton of questions for him like whether are not it’s okay to show up without a present or if she should help with dinner. She’s really nervous. Jiang Zheng Han assures her his parents love her. How much his parents love her is a testimony to how much he loves her. So sweet. During dinner, Xia Lin Xi lies that she's not picky at all. Jiang Zheng Han laughs at her without making it too obvious. When she chokes, the whole family is worried for her. If a man stares at you choking as loving as Jiang Zheng Han does to Xia Lin Xi, he's a keeper.
After dinner, his mother gives her a jade bracelet. It’s too expensive, Xia Lin Xi can’t accept it. Jiang Zheng Han walks Xia Lin Xi home. She asks him if he’s still angry about the whole Qin Yue thing. His answer: “Not anymore. It’s not as important as you.” Aw. He has a question for her too: why didn’t she accept his mother’s jade bracelet. It’s the only item they didn’t sell when his parents went bankrupt. That’s because it’s Jiang’s family treasure. It’s meant for the lady of Jiang family. Xia Lin Xi is shocked she rejected such a present. Laughing, he suggests to drag her back to get the bracelet. She smiles and assures him there's next time.
Xia Lin Xi celebrates New Years alone. Chen Yi Chuan updates Jiang Zheng Han so he shows up at her door to celebrate with her. Jiang Zheng Han tells her sincerely that if this happens again, always tell him. How can he let the girl he love be alone on such a memorable day? He also makes her dumplings. She doesn't want to eat it but he lies that he put a ring in one of them. She starts stuffing her face with them. No ring. It was a lie.
Xia Lin Xi's father comes home unexpectedly. Jiang Zheng Han wants to meet his potential father-in-law but she pushes him to her room. Father notices Jiang Zheng Han's coat. Xia Lin Xi makes her best lie that the coat was there before she returned home. Her father suddenly cries. It must be her mother's new boyfriend. What. Lol. Xia Lin Xi goes a little berserk at the trajectory of this conversation. Jiang Zheng Han overhears and introduces himself and also the fact that he was Xia Lin Xi's tutor.
[Ep20] Meeting You Used Up All My Good Luck
Dad begins his interrogation of Jiang Zheng Nan: his name, his sex (lol). Jiang Zheng Han answers that he assumes he's male. Haha. He confidently tells dad Xia Lin Xi is his first and last girlfriend. He notices Dad likes Chinese chess and moves in from there. One game of Chinese chess seems to have won Dad over but he admits that Mom will be the most difficult obstacle.
Mom calls Dad. The photo of the incoming call is a tiger. LOL. She found out that Xia Lin Xi skipped class. Xia Lin Xi prepares for her death.
Jiang Zheng Han is called back to the university early. He videocalls Xia Lin Xi and learns she's grounded. She lies that it's because she skipped class (it was because she won't break up with Jiang Zheng Han; Mom investigated him and found out he's poor, she's convinced he's after their family's money). Jiang Zheng Han tells her to plan out where she wants to go for next year's vacation. He's going to make preparations for it. Xia Lin Xi wonders what prep he needs to make. He casually tells her it's preparation to marry her.
Jiang Zheng Han begins his internship. He doesn't impress his own supervisor but the supervisor's supervisor (Xie Ping Chuan). In half an hour, Jiang Zheng Han can hack into the company's security system. Let's just say he's a genius, a hard-working genius. Although Jiang Zheng Han is super busy with work, he spares time to comment on his future father-in-law's social media posts.
After Jiang Zheng Han helps Xie Ping Chuan with a difficult project, the two connect on a personal level. Both had their difficulties growing up. Xie Ping Chuan asks how much debt he still owes. Jiang Zheng Han reveals there is none but he has to save now.for his girlfriend. He begins to show off Xia Lin Xi to him. Xie Ping Chuan doesn't want to 'eat dog food’ anymore. He vows he'll never ask him about his girlfriend ever again.
[Ep21*] Goodbye (Older) Brother
Everyone's back at university and there's a gathering. Xia Lin Xi is late. Everyone else laughs at Jiang Zheng Han for commenting on Xia Lin Xi's father's poems on WeChat. He's obviously sucking up ever so cheesily. Xia Lin Xi shows up behind him and motions everyone to keep silent. Taking the cue, Gu Xiao Man asks Jiang Zheng Han to list Xia Lin Xi's faults. Jiang Zheng Han only has one: she's like the sun, once she appears, she outshines all the stars. He tells everyone to keep mum about this. Smiling, Xia Lin Xi covers his eyes with her hands. Instead of taking her hands off immediately, he smiles and holds onto her hands to keep it there. Everyone teases him for holding on.
Jiang Zheng Han: Not only do I dare hold onto it, I can even kiss it.
The girls squeal, the boys puke.
Xia Lin Xi was late to give him a surprise. She rented a place for him to live so he doesn't have to commute for hours. It's five minutes from his company. She brought most of his belongings from his home and saved as much as she could (second-hand couches, etc.). He remains speechless as she introduces every detail of his new place.
Giving her a back hug, Jiang Zheng Han: Xia Lin Xi, what kind of luck did I use to have met you?
He seats her in his lap on their new couch. She quickly gets up and reminds him he sold himself to her (the contract), he needs to be principled. He's like his debt is too much, he should just sell himself to her now. He walks up to her. Each step he takes, she hesitantly steps back. He lays her on the bed and asks her what he can do for her. Anxiously, she quietly tells him he just needs to focus on work, and buy the sky's stars for her. He'll remember her wish. He moves in to kiss her. There's fear in her eyes as she stares up nervously at him.
Jiang Zheng Han: Are you not prepared to give yourself to me?
Eyes wide, Xia Lin Xi takes in his words. She then squeezes her eyes shut as hard as she can. Lol. Jiang Zheng Han respects that. He gets off her and then takes a cold shower. He really takes a cold shower, lol. Xia Lin Xi even points it out. Although he's a tad disappointed, he still gives her his bank card. If she ever needs to buy anything, she can use his card.
As for the title of this episode, Xia Lin Xi continues to call Qin Yue her brother. He can't bear to watch her wait in the rain for Jiang Zheng Han and tries to take her. Jiang Zheng Han walks in with his large umbrella and reminds him Xia Lin Xi is his girlfriend. Xia Lin Xi also asks Qin Yue (brother) to respect her decision.
Second Couple: Gu Xiao Man suggests to break up with Duan Ning. He easily accepts it, trying to make it easy for her when he’s hurting. Duan Ning doesn't deserve this!
[Ep22] When It Rains, It Pours
Jiang Zheng Han is upset but not at Xia Lin Xi. He also doesn't like her waiting in the rain for her. Xia Lin Xi admits that she was pampered all her 18 years of life but never has she been as happy as she is with him. She cutely changes the topic to his shampoo. Since she used his shampoo, does that mean her hair has his scent. He reminds her she used his soap as well.
Xia Lin Xi: Well then everyone will know I'm yours then. She's saying this on his bed.
Jiang Zheng Han smiles. He complains a bit if she can hold off on being cute and flirty. It's too much pressure being his boyfriend that way.
Xia Lin Xi: Teacher Jiang Zheng Ri, I'm skipping class already. Am I still worthy of praises?Jiang Zheng Han: Then should Teacher Jiang Zheng Ri give you extra lessons tonight? What does that mean? Hmmmm?
Xu Zhi Li is still adamant on snatching Jiang Zheng Han to his company. He makes Qin Yue leak the program that only Jiang Zheng Han is supposed to have access to. That way no company would want him except Xu Zhi Li's.
Xia Lin Xi has her own problems too. At school, Shi Ying blames Xia Lin Xi for lazy programming and cutting corners. It was Shi Ying’s fault and Xia Lin Xi had even warned her about it. Fortunately, Xia Lin Xi is prepared. She already fixed all the problems on her own.
Jiang Zheng Han is blamed for leaking the project. Xie Ping Chuan believes in him. So does Xia Lin Xi. Her mother calls her to tell her that Jiang Zheng Han doesn't have a future. Xia Lin Xi is resolute when she tells mom this: "If he really doesn't have a future, I'll take care of him then.”
[Ep23] Taking The First Step Towards Independence
Not only is Jiang Zheng Han fired, he might also be expelled. Without a single explanation from Jiang Zheng Han, his friends all believe him so does his professor and his team, and of course, Xia Lin Xi.
Jiang Zheng Han thanks Xia Lin Xi for her unwavering belief in him. She assures him she'll always be with him and he promises he'll do his best to not fall.
Xia Lin Xi's mother deactivates all her credit card. She considers using Jiang Zheng Han's card but thinks better of it. She doesn't want to be dependent on him. She finds herself a tutoring part-time. The next day one of her student's parent complains to the academy that her son's phone is full of her pictures. He blames Xia Lin Xi for seducing her son and chugs coffee all over her. Wow, what kind of complaint is that? Zhuang Fei witnesses the scene and tells her it's time to quit. Xia Lin Xi doesn't. She needs money. She stops and tells her one more thing: "Being short on money isn't something embarrassing." Zhuang Fei seems to admire her attitude as she smiles at Xia Lin Xi heading back to work after that humiliating scene.
Xia Lin Xi doesn't tell Jiang Zheng Han about her part-time but he finds out after Qin Yue expresses his frustration for making Xia Lin Xi work. Jiang Zheng Han secretly follows her at work. He then waits for her at home. He sees her coffee stained shirt. Jiang Zheng Han tells her she looks like she lost a lot of weight. There's tears in his eyes as he hugs her.
[Ep24] Separation Brings A Better Reunion
Jiang Zheng Han doesn't expose that he knows Xia Lin Xi is working part-time. He promises her he'll take care of her from here on.
Xia Lin Xi's mother meets up with Jiang Zheng Han. She wants him to breakup with his daughter. Jiang Zheng Han promises his current state is only temporary. The Mom won't give him a chance, "If you have any bit of dignity, then break up with her now." Coincidentally, he also has to leave the city for a few days with Xie Ping Chuan to investigate the case. Xia Lin Xi receives the message and she's all nervous. She tries to rush home before he leaves but she's held by that student who took pictures of her during class. Zhuang Fei helps her handle him. Xia Lin Xi makes it back in time before Jiang Zheng Han leaves. She asks him whether he's coming back. She remembers how he left last time. Aw, she really looks sad. He promises he'll be back within a week.
Zhang Huai Wu weeps as he calls Xia Lin Xi for help. He can't keep up with the people online hating on Jiang Zheng Han. Ha. Xia Lin Xi says they'll fight back. Chen Yi Chuan helps them fight the "internet water army" too. It's a team effort to keep Jiang Zheng Han's innocence.
Dad calls Xia Lin Xi. He wants to know if everything's okay and reveals mom visited Jiang Zheng Han. Xia Lin Xi cries, "Dad, what do I do? My heart hurts for him." He never told her about the meeting. He has too much to carry on his shoulders and her mother did that to him. That night she dreams of Jiang Zheng Han breaking up with her. It's 3am. She can't calm herself. It's as if he heard her prayers. He's back. She jumps to hug him. She cries in his arm that she thought her mother yelled at him to leave. He tells her the mathematical probability of him breaking up with her is zero. He also wants her to quit her job. He'll take care of her from now on. Xia Lin Xi doesn't want to. She promises to lessen her workload but she won't quit.
Jiang Zheng Han puts her to sleep and wishes her to dream a good dream of him. She asks how. He answers,"by loving you". She continues to ask how.
Jiang Zheng Han: Using one hundred year's worth of love in a day to love you. 百年如一日的愛你Xia Lin Xi: Then that's a deal. 一言為定 (a nod to the Chinese title)
The next morning, Xia Lin Xi makes food for Jiang Zheng Han again. His head drops as he remembers the last time she made food. Hahaha. He makes her eat but she's too busy forwarding everyone the proof that Jiang Zheng Han is innocent. She finally starts eating her food and spits it right out. At least Jiang Zheng Han still swallowed it, lol.
Third Couple: Zhang Huai Wu has kept in contact with Shen Wen Yue all this time. He's cute and shy about it.
[Ep25] Edward's Fascinating Journey
Chen Yi Chuan hits Duan Ning. He thinks he's cheating. Jiang Zheng Han lectures Chen Yi Chuan for not apologizing when he realized he wrongfully hit Duan Ning. Rather than angrily attacking another guy, he should be confessing, not denying his feelings. Chen Yi Chuan earnestly asks Jiang Zheng Han to teach him how to confess. Jiang Zheng Han is exasperated that he has to teach him how to confess but with Chen Yi Chuan calling him "brother-in-law", Jiang Zheng Han sheepishly smiles. Jiang Zheng Han is so easy to persuade, lol. He teaches his brother-in-law.
Chen Yi Chuan makes a clay rabbit ("Edward") for Gu Xiao Man like the one she made for him. She can't accept it. She has already decided that love isn't for her. She leaves back to her dorm. Chen Yi Chuan doesn't give up. He shouts Edward's love story for the whole campus to hear. Gu Xiao Man finally comes back out. She accepts the rabbit and his confession.
2017 (Third Year of University). Xia Lin Xi's mother starts giving her allowance again but it's via dad. Jiang Zheng Han receives a call from a company interested in hiring him. He rejects the offer. He wants to be an entrepreneur. Smiling, Xia Lin Xi takes out her credit card and the one he gave her. That's all her savings and she's giving it to him. He doesn't want it. She tells him it's her investment in him. She knows she has a good eye. He jokes that since they have a marital status, it's hard to keep it business between them.
Everyone wants to help Jiang Zheng Han whether or not he gives them pay. Even Xie Ping Chuan gives him a ton of investment without being asked. What a cool boss – ex-boss – forever boss. There’s one helper he’s worried about: Chu Qiu Yan. She’s still dating Xu Zhi Li and they’re rivals. Chu Qiu Yan overhears. She’s aware they’re considering her feelings by not telling her.
It’s Jiang Zheng Han’s company’s grand opening. There’s a grand reveal of the company's name: Heng Xia Software. It means to always constantly (Heng) love President Xia. Wow, lol.
During the investment bidding, Chu Qiu Yan shows up in time with the right documents to help Jiang Zheng Han. She chose work, loyalty, and friendship over her boyfriend who is also fighting for the bid. Jiang Zheng Han and Xia Lin Xi were right to trust her. They win the bid! However, the software runs into problems.
[Ep26] Steady; We Can Win This
There’s nothing wrong with the software, someone is purposely ruining their reputation. Jiang Zheng Han feels bad that he’s holding everyone back. They’re refusing job offers to stay with him. Xia Lin Xi motivates him that they need to look forward and not prepare to fail. However, a call from Principal Zhang (Zhang Huai Wu’s father) comes in. He keeps yelling at Jiang Zhang Han for ruining his son’s future. With the company having no funds and is in debt, Jiang Zheng Han dismisses the team.
Xia Lin Xi sighs that she can’t save the world nor the company but she can comfort this one man. She asks Jiang Zheng Han if he truly knows what Zhang Wu Huai thinks of him. Jiang Zheng Han is his light. He knows he’s just an ordinary person but he believes he can be better with Jiang Zheng Han. He trusts in him. He wants to prove to his dad that his choice is right.
Shi Ying learns Qin Yue was involved with Jiang Zheng Han’s downfall back in year one. Xu Zhi Li continues to force Qin Yue to bring down Jiang Zheng Han’s current company. Shi Ying quits. If he continues to ally with Xu Zhi Li, she won’t work for him anymore.
Shi Ying tells Xia Lin Xi about Qin Yue to see if she could convince Qin Yue. Shi Ying was encouraged by Zhuang Fei to ask Xia Lin Xi for help. Thus Xia Lin Xi knows Qin Yue sabotaged Jiang Zheng Han. With her appearance, Qin Yue’s self-conscious is stirred. Qin Yue hooks up Jiang Zheng Han with a possible investor. The boys make up. It’s as easy as that. However, Xu Zhi Li cuts off that investment. Jiang Zheng Han takes matter into his own hands and hacks that company’s security to prove that his company (well himself) is that formidable. It also turns out that the CEO of that company owes the Professor (the one who likes Jiang Zheng Han) a favour.
Jiang Zheng Han texts Xia Lin Xi to hire everyone back. That’s when he gets messages of all his friend’s investment. They’re willing to continue to invest. Jiang Zheng Han says that their bit of money isn’t enough. Everyone chirps in how much more they can provide (e.g. Chu Qiu Yan can ask her father to invest, he would if Jiang Zheng Han doesn’t mind). Chu Qiu Yan is the second girl I like the most in this drama. She doesn’t have a lot of scenes but her character is so loyal. She just needs to get rid of Xu Zhi Li.
[Ep27] It Is To Turn You Into A Better Person
Xia Lin Xi promised her mother to go abroad. That was the condition her mother made to lend her the money that Xia Lin Xi had given Jiang Zheng Han. Only Chen Yi Chuan knows this. He promised to keep this a secret from Jiang Zheng Han.
Every time Xia Lin Xi wants to tell him, someone always interrupts. Before she leaves, she gets his measurement for a suit she’s buying him. She mutters that the place is very picky with precise measurements. When she has the tape around him, he asks if she’s pleased with the measurements (i.e. him). The day the suit arrives is the day she’s leaving. She still hasn’t told Jiang Zheng Han. She doesn’t want to ruin the important day for Jiang Zheng Han. It’s the showcase of his software. Omg. She’s leaving him just like he left her but worse. At least he told her he was going to leave.
Xu Zhi Li once again attacks Jiang Zheng Han’s company and their safety issues. Jiang Zheng Han is prepared and proves his software is foul-proof. Xia Lin Xi watches tearfully. She’s proud of her man. Seeing that is enough. She leaves to the airport without saying goodbye to him.
Chen Yi Chuan can’t conceal the truth anymore. He tells Jiang Zheng Han before it’s too late. He arrives on time at the airport to see Xia Lin Xi before she leaves. She can’t not leave because that would only make her mother hate her boyfriend more for not keeping her word. In tears she tells him she’s only leaving for two years. It’ll be quick. Not. He hugs her to stop her from crying. She asks him if he’s mad at her. Of course he is. He’s mad at her for not telling him. He doesn’t want her to leave for him. If she’s leaving for herself then he can support it. Mom shows up. She invites Jiang Zheng Han for dinner after Xia Lin Xi leaves. Wait, Mom, if you approve, why separate them?
[Ep28] To Be Good Until We’re A Hundred Years Old. It’s a Deal.
Two Years Later. Hen Xia Software is the top in China. Jiang Zheng Han is presenting to university students about his experience. He’s practically a god. A female student asks him what type of girls he likes. He doesn’t have a type. He only has one girl he likes and the moment she’s back, he’ll marry her.
Xia Lin Xi is back a day early. Other students think she’s applying for a job. She replies that she’s here for Jiang Zheng Han. The girl is like she is too. She’s a huge fan. Before Xia Lin Xi can say anymore, Jiang Zheng Han arrives in his car. He's like a star with a red carpet waiting for him. Everyone crowds around him. Xia Lin Xi quickly dodges his sight. However, with one phone call to her, he locates her among the crowd. He doesn’t care about the scene he’s causing, he only cares about her. He princess-carries her up all the way to his office and announces to everyone he’s her fiancée.
Jiang Zheng Han brings Xia Lin Xi to his office and it’s filled with everything related to her. It’s actually her office. He seats her on the table and smiles that he can finally deliver on his promise: to give her himself and his money if she accepts his proposal. She accepts. That's the proposal.
Gu Xiao Man is a writer. She is currently married to Chen Yi Chuan. She is also pregnant.
Jiang Zheng Han drives Xia Lin Xi back home. It’s a special meeting because he’s asking her mother for her daughter’s hand. Xia Lin Xi is really nervous. When they arrive, Dad is already in approval without him saying anything (perhaps there’s some bribing, lol). Mom is more practical. She asks him if he bought a house. He has. Mom adds that if he dares to make Xia Lin Xi cry back home, she’ll hunt him down. Jiang Zheng Han nods. Xia Lin Xi is touched. She hands over Xia Lin Xi’s ID so she can marry.
Jiang Zheng Han has a present for Xia Lin Xi. It’s the jade his mother had wanted to give her. He slips the jade onto her wrist. The next scene is her in a wedding dress. She’s trying on dresses. It’s a really popular boutique. Chu Qiu Yan owns this place. A year ago she had reunited with Xu Zhi Li. He had changed a lot for her. He quit his father’s company and started a wedding dress franchise. They even married. Xia Lin Xi's wedding dress is a present from Xu Zhi Li for all the horrible things he did to them.
Xia Lin Xi doesn’t know who to ask to be her bridesmaid (Chu Qiu Yan is married and Gu Xiao Man is pregnant). Chu Qiu Yan asks who the best man is. It’s Qin Yue. Chu Qiu Yan has the perfect candidate: Shi Ying. She’s a jewellery designer.
Mom is still upset and emotional at giving her daughter to Jiang Zheng Han. For eighteen years she pampered her and raised her. For Jiang Zheng Han, it was the first time Xia Lin Xi resisted her. She knew that was when her daughter grew up. Mom puts out her palm to receive the tea Jiang Zheng Han is giving. She accepts this son-in-law. Albeit reluctantly, lol. Jiang Zheng Han still has it tough from her.
The wedding has a dress code. Everyone is in school uniform. Zhang Huai Wu is the emcee. He’s longwinded but I still love him. Jiang Zheng Han whispers to Xia Lin Xi that something’s up with their program. He quickly speeds up the wedding process. This throws Zhang Huai Wu’s planned speech completely offbeat. Right after they rush their “I do’s” they set up their laptops to fix their software.
There’s one more wedding present. It’s the button that represents their first kiss. Jian Zheng Han turned it into a necklace.
Remarks
[First Impression (Ep1-8)] I really like this~~!! By the way I'm also a Wang An Yu fan but that's not the entire reason! I do think this is one of the better romcoms to surface this year with a high school to university setting. A rogue meets a goody-two shoes type of romance but the rogue isn't actually a rogue. He's a genius and an angel in disguise and our FL is the one who pulls him out from the hole he dug himself in. She chases him in high school and he chases her in university. From the wedding opening, we know they’re going to be happy together but it’s the journey that matters.
So far I’m liking the chemistry. She’s a goddess and he’s a god. Seriously. From visuals to brains to personality, they are perfect but the actor and actresses make their characters innocent and genuine. She’s likable more than just for her looks and her brains. She’s nosy but not annoying. She really is the angel in his life. Him falling in love with her is only natural.
[Actors/Actresses] Need I say more about my opinion on Wang An Yu? I'm really happy I can see him in a similar role after Twenty Your Life On. I did not get to see enough of him from that drama. Just seeing pictures of him in the opening song had me smiling. I saw a bit of Xiang Han Zhi in Honey, Don't Run Away. She left a favourable impression there and continues to prove to be an actress with potential.
[Episode 12 Spoiler: When Jiang Zheng Han Fell in Love] I was confused why in the beginning Xia Lin Xi said Jiang Zheng Han was wrong about when he fell in love with her. He did fall in love with her in the third year of high school. That wasn't a lie. She's just playing with words because Jiang Zheng Han's confession to her was that he fell in love with her in the future. He time-traveled back to spend life with her again. The Chinese title then becomes more meaningful. He had promised to love her at 100 years old (百歲之好) and so he's back in the present to fulfill it once more (一言為定). Thus, he'll Forever be in Love with her.
P.S. I absolutely adore the way the Chinese and English title connects to the drama .

[Ending] Happy!
The only quibble I have is their separation. It wasn’t necessary to separate them for two years! I also thought the first separation was a bit forced but, hey, if it proves that their love is deep, fine.
The wedding doesn’t follow the typical route. There isn’t a proper proposal but I’m okay with that because the moment Jiang Zheng Han started dating Xia Lin Xi, this guy has been proposing every chance he gets. The sincerity is there from the beginning. There also isn’t a proper ring (or at least we don’t get to see one). Instead, what we get is a jade bracelet and a button necklace. The drama opted for meaningful items. Even the wedding was just a process for them. What matters is the two of them being together, not the formalities.
Final Review
[Review] Potential Bias: I love Wang An Yu. I smile when he smiles.
What a sweet drama. This drama doesn’t rely on hot kisses to be romantic. Everything our CP does exudes sweetness. This reminds me of Love O2O in just how ideal and divine the couple is. It’s the union of a god and goddess type of drama but Forever Love brings something more. Jiang Zheng Han is no god (not yet at least). He wouldn’t be who he is without Xia Lin Xi. Meanwhile Xia Lin Xi isn’t just a goddess, she worked hard (albeit with some natural born talent) for her grades. They have their imperfection but together they are perfect.
The first half of the drama is Xia Lin Xi changing Jiang Zheng Han’s life. She motivates him for a future he never dreamed of. From that moment he has chosen her. His future cannot be without her. The second half is him repaying everything to her with love; everyday of love he gives her is worth a “hundred year’s of love”. He doesn’t just repay her with love but also by being responsible with his life just as she wanted.
Xia Lin Xi is the type of girl who would have done fine without him. The only time her character breaks down was when Jiang Zheng Han left her. She fell in love with him without her realizing and when he disappeared, her heart broke. The way she chased him back was courageous (which reminds me of all the other brave things she did for him). I adore how it’s her who motivates him to be better. She’s a girl with a heart made of pure gold.
The secondary cast delivers as well. No one existed just to couple up to fill screen time or to be comedic relief. They’re not flat characters, each of them have their own growth, even the bad ones, and it’s pleasantly tied up in the end. Not one person is forgotten. Dramas that care about the secondary cast are truly worth appreciating.
At the core of this drama, I was simply satisfied just staring at Jiang Zheng Han smiling at Xia Lin Xi. His smile towards her is so warm. Allow me to emphasize that I’m totally not biased.
P.S. I was skimming through pictures and stopped at the one above. Remember how Episode 1’s title is "All 'Love From Familiarity' is 'Love From First Sight' That We Aren't Aware Of”? This is the moment they fell in love at first sight.
