玉簟秋 (Yù Diàn Qiū) is adapted from the Republican-era romance novel of the same name by Ling Xi, whose real name is Quan Ying. So when you see these different names, it's one person.

The title 玉簟秋 is hard to translate (= jade-smooth mat in autumn) because it comes from a poem by Li Qing Zhao: 紅藕香殘玉簟秋 (= the red lotus fades, its fragrance gone; the jade-smooth mat turns cold with autumn). Because when the bamboo mat turns cold, it's autumn. Metaphorically, it evokes loneliness. Therefore, The Lament of Autumn is an A+ translation.

Author Ling Xi seems to have a thing for toxic Republican-era romances, and this is another adaptation of her work after Love in Flames of War (Dou Xiao and Chen Du Ling). Both dramas have Ye Yang as a screenwriter, with Ling Xi also credited as the co-screenwriter. "Interesting" future dramas coming up: (1) Ye Yang also adapted Wang He Di and Meng Zi Yi's 將門獨後. (2) Then we have Ling Xi’s next adaptation: The Road to Glory, starring Zhang Ling He and Lin Yun. If The Lament of Autumn tanks, well, we'll have something to think about. But if it does well, there's hope!

This is the first Xu Ruo Han drama to air among the ones she filmed after The Best Thing gave her career a sweet little boost. (The first one filmed – post-The Best Thing – was with Zhou Ke Yu, a Yu Zheng-associated production.)

Keep an eye on Guo Yu Xin? She's "new," but she's popular in Verticals. This is a major career step for her to "step down" as FL to play a 2FL.
