Flash forward to 2051, nerds huddle and analyze Edward and Bella – oh right, their real names:: Gu Yan Qing (Cui Yu Xin) and Wu Nong Yu (Fang Jin). This futuristic framing is clearly a move to pass censorship by treating our leads like sci-fi aliens rather than supernatural beings. (You all do know that aliens are allowed because it’s "science," right?)
Back in the present for our "aliens", Gu Yan Qing and Wu Nong Yu are colleagues. She’s an intern at Genus studying the Affinity virus, and he’s the professor, escorting her to her dorm suite.
Suddenly, the tension peaks. OHHHHHH ~ So that he can use her washroom.
Through Ding Suo, we get the Affinity Virus lore dump.
- It’s broken down into types A and B, but the B-types have an elite class called Ren (刃). Pros: Rens have extraordinary supernatural abilities. Cons: Rens have zero emotional intelligence, can’t understand love, and prone to losing total control.
- Gu Yan Qing (clearly a Ren) defends them, saying they’re dispatched to dangerous missions to save humans (or aliens?). But Ding Suo counters that after getting "high" from a mission, Rens are even more dangerous.
- Gu Yan Qing pointedly clarifies that Rens can be controlled by forming a contract with an Affinity A = Yin 引. It sounds like a marriage bond. Basically sex.
- Gu Yan Qin gasps just thinking about sex HAHA
- But Gu Yan Qing – after he recovers – disagrees with the marriage comparison. It's more permanent than that. It's an eternal 1-1 exclusive bond. Once bonded, Rens will develop antibodies against other Yins – the rejection to other Yins is biological. While Yins' essence will become useless to other Rens. It's a high-stakes supernatural extreme monogamy. And anti-homosexual.

Xie Xin Xu blames those idiots who kidnapped her and ruined the reunion he planned. Then her scent sent him into an uncontrollable spiral of desire. Thankfully, she believed his mushroom story (because they always make so much sense in Cdramas). So what does this lustful man want from her now? Sex

Xie Xin Xu explains his feelings as an Affinity B, he was emotionless and treated life like a game. But mimicking emotions got boring – until 5 years ago, when he met Wu Nong Yu. It's like his mind imploded.
Xie Xin Xu: Though time passes, my feelings for you hasn’t weakened in the slightest, so I resolved to win you.
And so Xie Xin Xu became her ideal type after overhearing Wu Nong Yu and her brother (Wu Si Yuan) talking. Her standards are tall, handsome, devoted to her work like it's his own, preferably dead parents (no in-laws). Brother chimes in:. What if his personality is a bit difficult – because we're all thinking about the same guy – with a bit of a temper. Wait a second, is brother talking about himself?!
Wu Nong Yu adds that it's even better if her future husband has a sharp tongue and a hint of "dad flavour." 爹味 (diē wèi) literally translates to “dad flavour,” but means someone who is overprotective or bossy in a patronizing way i.e. “fatherly” with a sense of entitlement.
She was clearly joking to fend off blinddates, but Xie Xin Xu took it extremely seriously. Lol. And honestly didn't it work? She does care about his safety. Though I think she was attracted in Ep1 too. Emo bangs included lol.
Meanwhile Ding Suo hahaha strains his hip, especially ironic after their 🐦🐝 conversation.
Wu Nong Yu comes up with an escape plan: connect cranes to cross the buildings, then hit the subway. Ding Suo praises her to Xie Xin Xu.
Xie Xin Xu: There’s many areas about her I admire…and like. (,,¬﹏¬,,)
He said it loud enough for her to hear.
For this 笨蛋 bendan (dumb like an egg) girl, who tried to save him, Xie Xin Xu jumps down with her. And he's the one amused that she's willing to die with him. Correction: you sir are the one who's willing to die with her. xD

Enter shijie. She's a Yin too! She tries to force a bond (read: assault) on Xie Xin Xu. In a display of self-defence, he strangles her to protect his purity lol.
By the time Wu Nong Yu arrives to "rescue" her boy from the girl he’s currently choking out, he’s totally spent. He used every ounce of willpower to remain "untouched" for our FL. He collapses onto her, panting and whispering that she is not allowed to hand him over to another girl. (ㅅ´ ˘ `)
Wu Nong Yu is on the same page. She perks up towards shijie. "Actually, we’re already bonded. So shijie, can you give us some space to resolve his 'loss of control'?" Translation: Get out, we need to make out.
Xie Xin Xu is serious about his "treatment."
Breathless and flustered, Wu Nong Yu asks if that was "deep" enough. Spoiler alert: Far from deep. That was just a temporary patch.
But can we talk about the sweet duality of Xie Xin Xu? One second he’s ravishing her lips like his life depends on it (literally), and the next, he’s smiling like a smitten schoolboy just because she took his hand.
It’s adorable... right up until Wu Nong Yu decides it's time to ditch him because he's safe.
Karma travels fast and she immediately runs into a pack of hostile Rens. But wait – ML Brother enters the obsession game too.
Wu Si Yuan: Other than Nong Yu, kill them all. OUUUU. This obsessive brother is hot too
Xie Xin Xu isn't about to be out-obsessed by a brother. He beats Wu Si Yuan to the punch and gets to Wu Nong Yu first, and he is looking more desperate.

Xie Xin Xu: You are a heartless little liar. I spoiled you too much before. From now on, the relationship between us... I’m leading it. Since when did she lead it??
Xie Xin Xu tries to take Wu Nong Yu’s lips forcefully again. When she yells that she’s in pain, he pauses, but his unfiltered desire wins as he growls, "Withstand it." But the mood shifts instantly when she clarifies: she isn’t talking about herself – she’s talking about his shoulder that's injured. Now Xie Xin Xu is torn. He’s spiraling because she’s oscillating between being "cold" (rejecting his advances) and "hot" (caring for his wounds).
We get an emotional moment where a Ren sheds tears, mourning the death of his friend(s). It’s a reminder that scientists are guilty too. Just as the actor’s performance starts to win my sympathy, Lin Juan (Wu Si Yuan’s lackey) steps in. He kills the Ren under the orders of Wu Si Yuan, who calls that Ren "society’s garbage." Oh. Hot bro. You're making me do a double take.
Now that the immediate danger is gone – and Xie Xin Xu has vanished – he no longer haunts Wu Nong Yu’s nightmares. He has moved into a much steamier neighbourhood: her erotic dreams. The subconscious never lies, girl!
Wu Si Yuan thinks Wu Nong Yu is still “suffering” from her Xie Xin Xu nightmares. He tries to comfort her by revealing there was never actually proof that Xie Xin Xu killed his parents. Then, he offers his "cure" for her fear: Marriage. Marriage? That’s just sending her directly to a different kind of grave. And actually, this brother has always been trying to hook her up with a Ren. Why?
Wu Nong Yu just discovered that she has an expiry date. If a Yin doesn’t marry a Ren by age 25, their organs quit. This turns the Ren/Yin dynamic into mutual dependency where they are essentially each other’s life support systems.
The battle to marry a Yin commences!
It looks like a medieval tournament with Harry Potter cloaks. Cool. Suddenly, walls rise out of the ground – sci-fi arena style! Xie Xin Xu makes a last-minute entrance, and wins the right to propose to his bride of choice: Wu Nong Yu. He drops to one knee before her.
Wu Nong Yu whispers: Didn't you say you understood what I said last time?Xie Xin Xu: Mm. That's why for my most precious freedom, I'm handing it over to you.
Wu Nong Yu considers her options. If she rejects, Xie Xin Xu will certainly be reckless and get himself killed. Reluctantly, she accepts. For his safety.
Wu Nong Yu lays out her terms. 1) They live as husband and wife (in name only). 2) No bonding yet because there's no love for her, which he quickly assures her, "I will try my best to make you love me." And 3) she gets his blood for her research to cure the virus. Xie Xin Xu agrees, but he has one condition. He leans his entire body across the table to say it.
Xie Xin Xu: I need your comfort.
Wu Nong Yu negotiates: Hugs are okay. Kissing requires consent. He nods like a good boy. She signs the paper, muttering that it feels like a trap because he could easily break his word...
Xie Xin Xu taunts: Now you know? Oh xD.
Xie Xin Xu snaps his cuffs, rips off the muzzle, and throws the table away. He pulls her wheely-chair toward him with predatory precision.
Contract Sealed. Wu Nong Yu is so shook she literally falls off her chair while sitting in it. Welcome to married life!

However, Xie Xin Xu teases Wu Nong Yu that he's still battling those "dirty thoughts". But he also has a solution against for himself: a white jade necklace that contains anesthetics to knock him out if he loses control.
Xie Xin Xu: You must like your wedding present ~ my wife. (Awwwww. The way he said "wife!" And it's after a gifting her a portable tranquilizer lol)
The aisle to the altar is arduous. Right before the ceremony, Wu Nong Yu is drugged by the shijie. Our girl isn't a damsel, though. She fakes a faint and cat-fights her way out. She even throws a vase and thinks she hit the mark... but we see the truth: Xie Xin Xu was hiding there, caught the vase she missed by a mile, and smashed it on shijie for her. He vanishes before she can see him. Hahaha.
Wu Nong Yu finally stumbles onto the wedding aisle, looking all dishevelled. She asks her groom if she looks like a crazy woman. He's too crazy in love to tell, honestly LOL.
The contrast in their vows is amusing. Wu Nong Yu's vow sounds like a woman accepting a life sentence. And his...<3.
Wu Nong Yu: Our lives are bound together in life and death.Xie Xin Xu: In my limited life, my love is endlessly continuous. It sounds really pretty in Chinese 我的愛意無限綿長.
Their official wedding photo is taken in their pyjamas. Cute.
And there's a video recorder perspective that catches Xie Xin Xu leaning down to ask if Wu Nong Yu is okay after choking on her wedding wine. He's so sweet despite all the forcing LOL.
Our bride wasn't drugged, but our groom is – with a stimulant. Xie Xin Xu is drinking water and maxing out the AC, but nothing can quench his erotic desire. He’s about to devour his wife when the bed frame collapses, snapping him back to reality just enough to stop. He doesn't let her leave, though; her fragrance is the only thing calming his system. He asks if she has the tranquilizer anesthetic necklace. She grabs that thing like a lifeline and holds onto it for dear life all night long.
Wu Nong Yu wakes up in her husband’s arms, but the real nightmare is waiting at the door: Big Brother Wu Si Yuan! The two men face off! Mentally. It’s clear they have a dark history. Apparently, the brother tortured Xie Xin Xu in the past, and Xie Xin Xu promised a "surprise gift" for their next meeting.
Surprise! I married your sister.
The brother-in-laws were in a BDSM relationship?! Minus the consent, and so really just Totalitarian Captivity. Wu Si Yuan had tortured Xie Xin Xu and by snapping his fingers, Wu Si Yuan could force Xie Xin Xu to his knees.
Wu Si Yuan coldheartedly: "Remember. I made you. Don't even dream of escaping me in this lifetime (你這輩子都別想從我身邊逃走)."

Fast forward to the present: Xie Xin Xu is a master of psychological revenge. He looks at his new wife and repeats those exact same words to her, loud enough for Wu Si Yuan to hear. It’s wicked.

Dishwashing & Dominance. When sister is out of sight, that's when Wu Si Yuan claims dominance again – while washing dishes. So dominate. Kya. Lol! He snaps his fingers, and Xie Xin Xu’s knees automatically buckle. Yikes. It’s a painful reminder that even though Xie Xin Xu is "free," the Brother still holds the remote control to his body. But Xie Xin Xu has a remote control too: he calls for his wife and Wu Nong Yu comes running just to roll up his sleeve – so he can cut fruit. So dominate LOL. Dun dun dun!
Ding Suo – our favourite back-pain specialist! – was playing the long game too. He's actually a Ren who lost his powers and was discarded like trash. He’s the one who saved Xie Xin Xu after his prison break and got him the job at Genus. And his back pain? That was fake too.
But does this mean Xie Xin Xu only approached Wu Nong Yu for revenge against her brother? Noooooo! It's clearly love. And I also keep forgetting Xie Xin Xu is supposed to be "emotionless" because of his mutated Affinity-B/Ren genes: He doesn't know what love is or what it feels like to be loved. But sir, the definition of love is all over your face! The look on him when Wu Ning Yu runs toward him like a ray of sunshine – the literal light in his eyes, the softening of his lips and the tenderness as he lips her hair dry – that's love! It's this!! Your body is already speaking the language.
Wu Nong Yu joins Xie Xin Xu in search of these glass fragments (related to his parent's murder). They arrive in the Wild West...in Europe. LOL. These are cowboys.
Wu Si Yuan sends Li Xiang and Lin Juan to secretly guard Wu Nong Yu (and guard against Xie Xin Xu). Speaking of Li Xiang, Wu Nong Yu suspects she's her brother's bonded Ren. Bingo. The irony though, they say Rens are supposed to be the emotionless ones, but why does it feel like Wu Si Yuan (the Yin) is the one with a heart made of ice while his "blood bag" is the one doing all the loving? Or is she just a plain Affinity B, not a Ren?
Our couple stop for a bite and the receipt they get back is a total robbery (How much € for a single napkin? LOL). Here's the receipt of doom for your reference:

Li Xiang and Lin Juan spot our couple as hostages. Our elite Special Forces are off to save them – but first, they need to secure their seatbelts. Haha. Go! But then Lin Juan's belt is jammed. Help xD. 
Max drugs Wu Nong Yu with stimulants. Wait, Max, buddy, isn't that just helping the couple be more of a couple? Your fan-logic is flawed. She's panting and burning up, pleading with Xie Xin Xu to stay away from her because she's a danger to him. Seeing her in this hot state only makes Xie Xin Xu feel hotter. It's hell for both of them xD.

The kidnapper is Max. He's a Ren, but most importantly, he's Xie Xin Xu's career fan 事業粉. LOL. In Max's eyes, Xie Xin Xu is currently in his flop era. To a career fan, an idol getting married is a career disappointment. And so Max is here to "fix" his idol's trajectory now and get him back on track which is Ren Domination? Lol.
Watching Wu Nong Yu struggle triggers a sensation Xie Xin Xu never felt before: 心疼 (xinteng) = heartache and distress. He looks at his Emotion medicine, and is convinced the pills are effective. He takes another to keep the 心疼 momentum going. His heart is hurting and he's actually taking more medicine to feel that more. For Wu Nong Yu.
Our elite Special Forces are captured too.
Max orders Wu Nong Yu to shoot them. As she trembles, Xie Xin Xu pulls her into his lap and guides her hands on the gun. A volley of shots rings out, but instead of a bloodbath, they leave a perfect bullet-hole outline around Lin Juan’s body on the wall. Our elite Special Forces escape death for one day.
The first marriage fight. Wu Nong Yu is angry at Xie Xin Xu for the betrayal. He’s working with Max to use her friends as leverage for those glass fragments. Then she drops the ultimate insult: "I should have chosen Lin Juan as my husband."Xie Xin Xu is raging. When she tries to kick him away, he grabs her ankle and drags her right back under him. Woah.

Wu Nong Yu cries, but before the tears slip out, he cruelly reminds her that her crying makes him more excited. And so right as the tear is about to fall, she subdues him with the necklace. He rolls off to the side and curls into a ball, his body shaking from a cocktail of rage, desire, and the anaesthetic. While she sits up on the bed and curls into a ball, crying for her lost trust (and love?).
Morning comes, and Wu Nong Yu wakes up to a nice breakfast laid out on the bed. But where is the husband? He’s under the bed. Xie Xin Xu's eyes are red and swollen, and he’s rocking some serious dark circles, none of which I can see. Is this him wagging his tail to apologize?
Wu Nong Yu hides dynamites(?) in her ankle (???). It works. But Max isn't that much of an idiot and tries to check her ankle. But Xie Xin Xu enters. No one touches what belongs to him. Period. And he has the perfect cover story: She's walking funny because I grabbed her ankle last night...she was being naughty. That checks xD. Then to shut down Max, Xie Xin Xu flexes by lifting his wifey into his arms with one single arm.
The smiles! (ㅅ´ ˘ `)
Round two of hun lessons. He's not touching her and they're still hot. Xie Xin Xu uses a chopstick to trace the line from her hips to her elbow to her wrist...perfecting her posture. He sets her up for what looks like a kill shot, but – bingo – it's a perfect miss. And Wu Nong Yu trusted Xie Xin Xu to shoot at the spot he aimed for her. Looks like Lin Juan and Li Xiang can live another day.
But that night Wu Nong Yu knocks out Xie Xin Xu to go on a solo rescue mission. Or so she thinks. LOL.
Wu Nong Yu puts on her Harry Potter cape and rescues her friends – using the techniques Xie Xin Xu taught her. Awwww. Go girl!

Xie Xin Xu isn't far at all. He pops out from the trunk as the ultimate hero! And the rescue mission ends with a bang. It's Xie Xin Xu who's hit with a bullet.
Xie Xin Xu is built different. He's got a fresh bullet wound yet he's in the perfect mood to casually compliment his wife's driving. Meanwhile in the second car the mood is completely different. Li Xiang drives like a real pro, but has zero patience for Lin Juan's aim. When Lin Juan blames his misses on her driving, they decide to settle the argument by swapping seats. – while the vehicle is accelerating at high speed. It turns out Li Xiang is exactly as precise as she claims to be, leaving Lin Juan "Wooow-ing".
Our main CP eventually drives straight into a dreamland fog and wakes up five years in the past. Wu Nong Yu finds herself in 2020, meeting a younger, bullied, and feverish Xie Xin Xu. Being the protective soul she is, she ends up following this version of him all the way home to make sure he’s okay.
Xie Xin Xu thinks he's so smart when he tells his parents he's actively pursuing Wu Nong Yu. He's fully expecting them to forbid him dating a strange, older lady. Instead, his "stern" parents come back with a set of rules that actually APPROVE of the relationship. xD. Despite mom looking emotionless, Mom clearly already loves their (real) future daughter-in-law and wants a family portrait.
Xie Xin Xu’s fever continues to burn. This is the first time in his life his virus has spiralled out of control. Wu Nong Yu hugs him to ease the burn, but this version of the boy knows even fewer boundaries and immediately tries to sneak a hand up her shirt. When she pulls away, he realizes he went over the line and opens a window to cool down. Feeling for him, she finally gives in and initiates a kiss – the very first time she has ever been the one to start it.
Naturally, that’s exactly when Mother Xie knocks on the door. A flustered Wu Nong Yu opens it with very swollen lips. The mom takes one look at her face and asks the question of the century: "Did you two... eat some really spicy snacks?" Is this mom for real? Lol.
Xie Xin Xu complains that Wu Nong Yu is eating too loudly and waking him up, yet the moment she tries to leave, he pulls her back, needing her scent to sleep. This high-maintenance emo boy :D. 
This was cute! He stares at his own hand in fascination – that her little face fits in there. And she automatically massages it, thinking her face was too heavy, making him numb. She doesn't realize it's not his hand that's going numb – it's his heart softening for her :D ~~
But that warmth is snuffed out instantly. It appears the "Special" organization (or a faction within it) wanted their research badly enough to commit a double murder.
Xie Xin Xu's stern mother convinces the stern-er father to let Wu Nong Yu stay the night, simply because it's the first time their son has ever brought a girl home. Beneath their unsmiling exterior, these parents are total softies.
Because Xie Xin Xu is a Ren, he doesn't exhibit the standard physical signs of grief. In the eyes of the police, he looks like a cold-blooded killer standing over his parents' bodies. Wu Nong Yu, desperate to protect him, forces him to cut onions to produce artificial tears. A crying Xie Xin Xu asks if this is some kind of cruel joke. His parents are lying dead there and here he is crying over an onion. He is in pain. But he has to use a vegetable to prove his humanity :( 
Just as Xie Xin Xu hides future (current) Wu Nong Yu in his room from the police, he encounters the "past" version of her, causing a memory collision. It's like the 18yo and 23yo Xie Xin Xu merged. With all his memories of Wu Nong Yu, he shakes off the police and runs back to her. And when he opens the door, we transition to Wu Nong Yu's dream. *Claps* This transition! We move from Wu Nong Yu saving his past to Xie Xin Xu saving her past. Excellent.
I didn't realize Wu Nong Yu has her own trauma: Wu Nong Yu's father has been using her as a literal blood bag, draining her blood to sustain her comatose mother. And now ML is using her fluids to sustain his stability. AWW. What’s heart-wrenching is that Wu Nong Yu doesn't even hold a grudge. She understands the desperation of her mad father wanting to save the mother/wife's love. AWWW :(
Our couple finally wakes up. Wu Nong Yu is still mumbling in her sleep though, "Such a handsome gege – I don't know if I'll meet him again." Xie Xin Xu smiles at her. Handsome gege is right here! And now they both were there for each other's trauma.

However, handsome gege's gun wound is worsening. He teases her that some "comfort" would heal him, but seeing her hesitation, he pulls back with the classic 'just joking' line. As for Wu Nong Yu's past, her mother never woke up. Her father was charged for illegal experimentation. He then committed suicide (with her mother's body). As for her brother, his behaviour finally clicks. He views Rens (Li Xiang, Xie Xin Xu) through the lens of a son who watched his father, a Ren, lose his mind and torture his precious sister. That's why the brother acts like that to LI Xiang (a Ren) despite liking her. Xie Xin Xu notices Wu Nong Yu talking about everyone, but herself. It was her small little arms that were poked with needles. Wu Nong Yu chokes up. She can't say she didn't hate her father. She would wonder if her father even loves her. But unlike her brother, she knows the real enemies aren't Rens, but the Affinity Virus itself. That's why she's studying the virus to find a cure.

Meanwhile, he has been cooking her meals for years and disguising them as takeout. For their anniversary, he goes one step further and disguises himself to buy a cake from her bakery, meaning he makes her bake the cake and never gives it to her. None of this makes sense. She absolutely should have broken up with him, but instead after that confession she lets him back into her life. Yin Che may have secretly been his own wife’s anonymous admirer, but Qi Qi has also been quietly stalking him. Happy ending somehow.
Wu Nong Yu breaks down. Fully surrendering to her feelings, she tells him he must keep taking the medicine until she no longer likes him. His eyes glimmer. He refuses. He does not want to take the medicine anymore. She leaves in tears. Then Xie Xin Xu lifts her onto a chair so she is forced to look down at him. He finally says it plainly. Those were vitamins. She's confused. How is he feeling feelings?
Xie Xin Xu: Is there a possibility that you cured me? Because you are genuinely so good that I felt small in comparison. I couldn’t resist your energy. I could only be changed by it.

Wu Nong Yu offers help but is met with Li Xiang’s sharp, petty rejection. By pointingly stating that she doesn't need anyone to "serve" her, she was clearly aiming her frustration directly at Xie Xin Xu. Our poor Xie Xin Xu had done absolutely nothing wrong except being a little too good at being a husband. xD.
Li Xiang doesn't find the fragment, but she does find herself caught in Xie Xin Xu's bidong. Wu Nong Yu gets jealous, but not as jealous as the brother. Wu Si Yuan loses his cool just because another man gets within breathing distance of Li Xiang.
Uh oh. The videos of Xie Xin Xu being tortured by Wu Si Yuan are sent to Wu Nong Yu. She immediately confronts Wu Si Yuan. To the brother, that wasn't torture, but necessary safety conditioning for Rens who are a societal threat. Also, it turns out it was Wu Si Yuan who reported his own father for the illegal experiments, leading directly to his father's suicide. His hatred for Ren is deep and traumatic. Li Xiang hears everything from Rens will never develop true feelings and should be dispensed once they're useless.
While the boys are busy fighting a fire and each other (to look for Wu Nong Yu), she's walking on a street with a dead phone. Now that's an emergency. She asks a lady crying on a bench for a power bank. It's Li Xiang. Lol. She's crying because of Wu Si Yuan, yet the second Wu Nong Yu agrees her boyfriend is terrible, Li Xiang pulls a 180 and blames Wu Nong Yu for triggering Wu Si Yuan with her boyfriend. Li Xiang is so hopelessly devoted to Wu Si Yuan xD. Wu Nong Yu admits that loving either of them siblings is a gruelling, full-time job and asks Li Xiang to reconsider, lol. Li Xiang storms off because she can't handle the truth about how bad her man is, but she still leaves the power bank behind. Aw!

The Special forces kill Li Xiang!! This was supposed to be the very first time Wu Si Yuan celebrated her birthday in their three years of marriage. He is actually worse than Yin Che in the "neglectful husband" department, but seeing him finally embrace his love for a Ren only to have her die in his arms is a cruel price to pay for his character growth. Li Xiang’s dying birthday wish is that she should have never bonded with him, simply so he wouldn’t have to die alongside her due to their biological dependency. Wu Si Yuan, shattered, tells her she should be wishing to punish him – wishing that he loses his love in this life forever and spends the next one suffering in love because of her. AWWWW.
The tragedy hasn't reached our main CP. They're still in romcom mode. Wu Nong Yu is taking that "compensation" promise seriously, waking up early for breakfast duty, but Xie Xin Xu is feeling the guilt. He takes back the condition because he wants to be the one providing her with "lots and lots of love," so he takes over the kitchen. Wu Nong Yu loves the offer.

Ding dong. Brother is here, but Wu Si Yuan doesn't say a word about Li Xiang’s death. Instead, he finally admits he now believes that Rens can truly love and that he regrets the things he's done.
Wu Si Yuan pulls a noble sacrifice move, exchanging his life for everyone’s safety, but I missed why that’s even a "bargain" considering he’s already a goner because of his bond with Li Xiang. But then Xie Xin Xu swoops in to save him! Despite his vendetta, he doesn’t want the brother to die like this.
But then Wu Si Yuan starts snapping his fingers, and Xie Xin Xu’s knees buckle every time. BUT! Xie Xin Xu keeps getting back up! Awwww. I'm impressed by this show, again and again. This call-back is thoughtful and emotional. Except what is this laughing from Wu Si Yuan. The dubbing is off too lol. 
But then... his dragon comes! I guess the dragon acts based on his desire?

However, Wu Si Yuan drops the actual death blow: he admits that when Xie Xin Xu’s parents died, he was the one who sent people to his family. Xie Xin Xu is absolutely floored – he doesn't recover from that. And then he jumps off the building right when his sister calls to him. "I might have to leave behind a mess, but it's the last one," and then he just dies. That is messed up. Bro, you trying to frame Xie Xin Xu? Or he'll lose his resolve to die if the sister comes any closer?? Bro.
But wait! What is this?! Our credits is their credits:
Are we in 2051 Earth time where Li Xiang and Wu Si Yuan are just a normal couple on a couch? Li Xiang complains about the ending they just binged and Wu Si Yuan is just like, "It's fine, we'll pick another drama and I'll watch the whole thing with you this time." Are they really dead in our story though D:
Back to our binge. Wu Nong Yu thinks Xie Xin Xu didn't even try to save her brother because he wanted revenge. He defends himself that her brother was involved in his parents' death and even says, "Your brother did all those bad things, shouldn't he die?" Damn. Don't say that! Wu Nong Yu is in total disbelief and calls him a cold-blooded monster. Like, why does he think she would ever choose him over her own brother at that moment? She dives into the rubble, frantically searching for any sign of life, while Xie Xin Xu just turns around and walks away as the whole place collapses on her.
But then... his dragon comes! I guess the dragon acts based on his desire?
Lin Juan is is the third voice of reason, explaining to Wu Nong Yu that her brother was basically giving a verbal will in his final moments. I feel that Wu Si Yuan had a lot to regret, but says he doesn't for his sister's sake. Wu Nong Yu sobs, and I feel sadder for Lin Juan who doesn't know what to do with the tissue lol. (Not that it isn't sad for our FL, but I'm kind of in disbelief. Where's this plot going).
This bro is irresponsible. He drops the ultimate relationship-ender – "Hey, I helped kill your husband's parents" – and then just checks out. That’s a great way to make sure your sister is "well-taken care of."
Wu Nong Yu leaves Xie Xin Xu. Because how are they supposed to even look at each other now? Her brother was involved in his parents' death, and Xie Xin Xu is involved in her brother's death. But Xie Xin Xu has officially re-entered or never left Obsessive ML Mode. He locks her in the house. He tells her he had wanted to leave her, but his dragon, his baobei, is connected to his wifi (aka his internal desire). Even if his brain tells him to abandon her, his dragon will just swoop in and save her anyway. His heart chose her, so unfortunately he's locking her up. Romantic...
This key finding game is not fun! Even if it's because he wants her to eat some more.
Wu Si Yuan isn't ALL that irresponsible. He connects Xie Xin Xu to a witness who reveals the truth: his parents died because they refused to let Xia Shang turn their son into a lab specimen. And Wu Si Yuan only arrived after the fact. I guess the bro made it sound like it was him so that Xie Xin Xu would let him die?
Brother is off the hook, but Xie Xin Xu isn't. Wu Nong Yu finds out Xie Xin Xu sent the video. To her, every sweet moment, every back-scratch, every strawberry was just a calculated move for revenge against her brother. That realization is the last shred of hope evaporating. She commits suicide (hypoxia from boiling a kettle of water).
But Xie Xin Xu kisses her back alive. Serious.
Oh, and they actually bonded via the blood transfusion?! So that fluid works too. I'm not disappointed...nope.

And then the kiss happens. It’s so long and intense that she's hypoxic again. Looks like she needs more respiratory lessons so he can teach her how to change breaths in between.
Wu Nong Yu comes up with a "breathing signal" – pinching his earlobes – but that's basically an "accelerant" button, turning him on. Instead of getting air, she just triggered a harder kiss and even more apnea. After dominating her lips, Xie Xin Xu comes to his senses and apologizes. He promises to move out, but Wu Nong Yu impulsively asks him to date her instead. Girl is in love with being hypoxic lol.
Everything falls apart when the brother falls off the ladder (while hiding his roof-stash of money). It’s the glitch in the matrix that triggers the memory of his actual death and brings Dark Wu Nong Yu to the surface :O
It turns out Xie Xin Xu had driven Wu Nong Yu to the Misty Forest where he can enter her dreams, hoping that will wake her up. This is already their 9th dream. The first few times, he learned the hard way that if he tries to force her back to reality, her dream world collapses. And so the last few times, he's been trying to curate a perfect, memory-free life for her, hoping to guide her way out. That's why he removed the strawberries from her sight.
Wu Nong Yu turns their destiny into her weapon: she won't wake up; she’ll let him love her in every cycle; at the end of every dream, she will make him relive the agony of losing her – over and over and over. She’s willing to suffer the pain just to make sure he suffers with her. This is her revenge.

Then she watches him kill the Rens who murdered his parents and the brother who tortured him. Our smart Wu Nong Yu realizes this isn't her dream. She entered Xie Xin Xu's nightmare. I completely forgot she can enter his dream too. Through him, she sees the result of hatred and revenge first-hand. Every time he kills someone, he’s killing a part of himself, carving away another piece of his own humanity. She realizes she can handle her own self-destruction, but she couldn't stand watching him tear his own soul apart. Just as he can't bear watching her self-destruct :( She saves him :') who was saving her who was saving him who was saving her ∞
They finally wake up for real. After a tight hug, she asks him to let her go. He does :( That night Xie Xin Xu packs Wu Nong Yu's suitcase for her. It's bittersweet. It truly is growth that he's willing to follow her wishes and separate :'( He fills her suitcase with vitamins for her all-nighters and takeout habits, plus special meds from Ding Suo to stabilize her Yin Episodes so she doesn't need him anymore. We're trusting Ding Suo with this medication? He hesitantly tells her she can contact him if she’s struggling with her virus. But Xie Xin Xu, who is going to help you when your episodes act up?!
Wu Nong Yu indulges her last night. She lets Xie Xin Xu stay in her bed. And he has a question. How much does she hate him? On a scale of 1 to 10, she hates him a 10... but she loves him a 10, too.
Wu Nong Yu: I really love you so, so, so much.
She cries. And he thanks her that she isn't giving their relationship a death sentence, but a suspended sentence. She needs time to see if the beautiful memories outlast the pained ones. They cherish their last few hours, and he's so careful in kissing her back until he knows she's willing to accept him. They finally have their first night. Please don't let it be the last!
Xie Xin Xu wakes up the next morning and Wu Nong Yu is gone. And gone for 2 years!!
2 years later.
Wu Nong Yu has her PhD. And Lin Juan is her boyfriend?!
Nope, Lin Juan is just Wu Nong Yu's fake boyfriend to fend off other men who want to be her boyfriend. But Lin Juan doesn't mind upgrading to real-boyfriend status. She's like Please, I'm living separately but I'm still married.
Third and last fragment. They end up in a village. Xie Xin Xu is absolutely crushed just seeing Wu Nong Yu after two years, but he’s so disciplined he won’t even approach her. He’s just out here in the village, concealing himself and taking out her enemies from the sidelines.
But you can't outrun a woman who knows your soul, Xie Xin Xu! She finds him, and clobbers their enemy with a big rock. He stumbles up just to stand but collapses and she's right there to catch him. He's drained, but he hugs her with everything. AWW.
The villagers beg our team to save their haunted village, but it turns out the only thing needing saving is Lin Juan's dignity. He's a massive coward. He even googles a talisman image to pray for safety. Then he gets so paralyzed by a "ghost" that Xie Xin Xu has to piggyback him xD. And ultimately, the ghost was just a bird. Lin Juan is too precious.
It's chicken butt. Mmmm, the stench!
Wu Nong Yu realizes too late what it actually is. But Xie Xin Xu eats it with so much emotion you’d think it was the most delicious chicken butt ever to exist. Aww.
While Lin Juan is stuck in the toilet thanks to his "regular" skewers, Xie Xin Xu and Wu Nong Yu are outside playing with helium like a couple of kids. Poor Lin Juan lol. He didn't even eat the chicken butt.
Ding Suo doesn't fail us. That "Yin medicine" is just sedative to knock out Wu Nong Yu so Xie Xin Xu can sneak in to give the real treatment. Lin Juan is the unwilling wingman who has to call Xie Xin Xu whenever Wu Nong Yu needs treatment. I panicked a little, especially with Lin Juan's reaction outside, thinking treatment was going to be something non-consensual sex. But Treatment is blood transfusion. After it all, he meticulously removes every trace – the needles, the marks – so she wakes up thinking she just slept. Meanwhile he looks so weak and drained – physically and emotionally. :(
Wu Nong Yu almost catches Xie Xin Xu in her room, but we've got our ultimate wingman: Lin Juan.

But then our "ultimate wingman" stirs the pot and triggers Xie Xin Xu’s weary little heart. He asks Wu Nong Yu if she wants to try this "very powerful massage technique" he learned. Yet, the jealousy is cut short by a heavy reminder of why Xie Xin Xu is exercising so much restraint: Wu Nong Yu is still having those gut-wrenching nightmares about her brother. His presence is a double-edged sword: he’s her cure, but he’s also a trigger for her trauma :(
This sunny boy is our mole. He's Xia Shang's son-in-law, shijie's blood-bag husband. He's sick and tired of the mother-daughter duo.
More truth exposed: Wu Nong Yu realizes Xie Xin Xu has been secretly healing her for two years, staying in the shadows because he was terrified that seeing him would only bring back her pain. He's been giving her his life (blood) while acting like he’s the one who’s done something wrong. His 委屈 (wěiqu) is hurting her. And does she finally lift his "suspended sentence"?!

The man faked his own death after his own son reported him, and set a car on fire to cover his tracks. He was waiting for that third fragment so he could finally kill Xia Shang. :OOOO Spoiler: And he fails to kill her when she's under 1m away. Seriously. This useless father.
In classic fashion, Wu Nong Yu has no idea the world has gone upside down as she enjoys her morning. And love these rivals rushing the croissant and perfecting the coffee, but then the second she walks out, they pretend to be chill
Xie Xin Xu literally robs shijie's car – in broad daylight while she's armed and he isn't... And hey, it works. He obtains the evidence the blood-bag husband mole had on his mother-in-law, Xia Shang. But that doesn't mean Xie Xin Xu isn't injured (by the gunshot that didn't go through him?). He pumps himself full of Ren stabilizer needles instead of the easy way – Wu Nong Yu. Fortunately, she finds him.
The next morning, Xie Xin Xu is apologetic, swearing he didn't have any filthy thoughts. But Wu Nong Yu teases him, accusing him of definitely acting like he did. He immediately flips her back on the bed and opens her sweater, checking every inch of her skin for injuries. He's a breath away, hyper-fixated on her safety and completely oblivious to how much she's reacting to him.
Wu Nong Yu asks about his anxiety medication and that's when she learns he's been taking them ever since she left him two years ago. Rens biologically become anxious after separating from their Yins. If his desire gets too strong, to control himself, he ends up leaving marks on his arm. He's mutilating his own arm to suppress his biological craving for her :(
Now that the fragments are complete, Ding Suo / Wu Ming has created the cure. Wu Nong Yu wants to do controlled trials, but Ding Suo already skipped to human trials and Lin Juan is one of them. And of course we couldn't trust a man who faked his name and face. This isn't a cure at all – it's a death pill that kills the virus by killing the host. Dude. You needed to gather fragments just to come up with a medicine that indiscriminately kills?! You can't use regular poison??
With two episodes left, this is too intense.
Ding Suo admits there is no cure. The fragments are missing a core ingredient. His wife, Wu Nong Yu's mother, A Yu was the researcher and also the first "guinea pig." She took the incomplete medication and ended up in a coma. Since Ding Suo can't fix the medication, he decides the next best thing is to fulfill what he thinks is the mother’s wish: kill the Affinity virus entirely, including the host. This is genocide.
The mother is still alive! She needs a blood transfusion stat. (Oh hey, it was Ding Suo who taught Xie Xin Xu that these transfusions stabilize Yins/Rens.) Xie Xin Xu volunteers because he doesn't want Wu Nong Yu to do it – she already gave enough of herself to her mother throughout her entire childhood.
The mother recovers – like fully. More importantly, she has a brain even if it just woke up. She immediately shuts down Ding Suo’s "kill everyone" plan. Her research was meant to improve life by killing the virus, not to destroy life just to get rid of a pathogen.
Before the police haul Ding Suo away, he has a heart-to-heart with his daughter. He says he’s been a silent guardian in the background this whole time: 1) Ep18 he was the one who saved Xie Xin Xu with the needle so that he could save her with the dragon (ooh that episode where she lugged him everywhere, instead of just kissing him some more just so the dad can do something, I see lol); 2) Ep26 he sent the SOS to Wu Si Yuan when she was kidnapped. Ding Suo isn't trying to get out of being arrested; he just doesn't want Wu Nong Yu to think he doesn't love her. Wu Nong Yu needed this because she always wondered if her father loved her.
You guys, The cure is HELIUM. LMAO. It turns out the only reason Xie Xin Xu’s blood could cure the mother was that he inhaled helium. (Didn’t Wu Nong Yu inhale it too? Did she not take the hero's dose or what? Lol.). But when Xie Xin Xu goes back to the village to find more, he realizes that was the only bottle of Helium on this entire planet. I need to see their periodic table.
And so the only solution left is for Xie Xin Xu to give up his blood so they can extract the helium. And that can supply the entire planet?? That would put him in an indefinite coma just like the mother. Still, he offers himself up, but Wu Nong Yu says absolutely not. There has to be another way. So, instead of a tragic sacrifice, they actually slow down to date and just be in love. They’re finally together again.
But Xie Xin Xu leaves while she sleeps!! Except he stays ~ I appreciate that show didn't make him sneak off without her knowing. But they're both fully aware of the truth. He has to sacrifice. Xie Xin Xu teases her that because it’s Lin Juan lying there sick, she isn't being "efficient" enough with the research. He tells her that if it were him needing the cure, she’d die of impatience. Wu Nong Yu, in tears, fires back that she won't. In fact, she’s only going to work eight hours a day and she’s taking her weekends off. But then she gets sincere and promises him that she will work forever to find a cure for him. Aw. This realistically sweet vow, but also she's assuring him she will take care of herself :'(
Xie Xin Xu's mighty blood cures the entire planet of Affinity.
The virus is gone. But Xie Xin Xu is still in a coma. It's awkward because everyone starts paying tribute to him like he's dead, and Wu Nong Yu is standing there being like My husband is clearly still alive.
Meanwhile Lin Juan is on the path of a pop idol with his killer mullet.
Wu Nong Yu sends an interstellar SOS in the form of a love story. The things I'm typing for this show. It reaches Earth! And apparently, us earthlings are such suckers for romances (no lie there) that we couldn't just sit by. And with China's superior technology, they send Huang Jing Yu to ship Helium across the galaxy to her. Saved!

Sold! It’s ridiculously fantastical, and that’s exactly why I love it. Show fully embraces spicy romance, exaggerated supernatural-action, and the vivd colour palettes. ML is completely all over her, openly wants her, and the fact that he’s "supernatural" heightens that intensity. I love the excessiveness.
Warning: Red Flag ML. The premise is upfront about him being dangerous, toxic, and not consent-driven. You need the right lens (i.e. less morals) to enjoy this xD

This reunited director Chen Jia Jie and FL Fang Jin, both of whom gained their first significant boost in exposure and popularity through Embrace in the Dark Night.
It's 40 episodes, but I think this was meant to be a regular length drama that they cut up.
