Drama Overview & Review
[Drama Info] We have two directors: Li Lei and Lin Feng. The former contributed to Candle in the Tomb series, but not always as the main director. The latter – now he's interesting – directed the hottest dramas this year: The Journey of Legend and Love & Crown. So hot, you gotta drop them quick.
This isn't Cheng Yi's year but maybe third time's the charm.
Wrapped on March 8 this year, 2025.

Bian Cheng cameos has the original face for Zhou Qi's character

[Major Spoiler] Surprisingly, these brothers – brothers!! Zhou Qi's younger than Liu Yu Jun's real-life son, who also appears in the drama. But this isn't the "surprising" part – end up forming a genuine brotherly bond while one of them is semi-unconscious for the most of it. This is the same bother who wanted the other dead from the start, but ultimately Xiao Wen Jing strikes again....

The Family. FL Xu Lu is ML's (Cheng Yi) sister. Cheng Yi is also reunited with his bro from Mysterious Lotus Casebook: Da Huang, the dog. What the dog does for the siblings was so touching. Very emotional. [Top | Skip »]

There Is Slight Romance. Not "romantic" though. It's for Uncle Zhu's godson and goddaughter ((Tong Meng Shi and Wang Zi Xuan), and not with each other. Their respective partners are Chen Yao (Ep5) and Guo Cheng (Ep16). [Top | Skip »]

Godfathers & Godchildren. One of the best thematic parallels is the repeated godfather-godchildren dynamic. Among them, Wang Pu, Yan Feng Shan's godson, stands out as my favourite character in the entire drama. His arc was fun, then gradually unravelling into something darker, but meaningful. (Not forgetting that Yan Feng Shan has a loyal goddaughter too. Yan Feng Shang wasn't too bad of a father.)

"Real Son". Liu Yi Tong's Han Zi Ling isn't anyone's real son in the story, but he is Liu Yi Jun's real-life son (and no, they never meet in the drama). It's a small spotlight role, which I thought was effective, and highly emotional as well. *Clap*. [Top | Skip »]
