FanFanX: I got hooked by the trailer as soon as I spotted Liu Yi Tong and Qi Yan Di together.

Note: Liu Yi Tong is Qi Yue's son from the future, so the romance is actually between Qi Yan Di and Wu Di Fei. Totally love the mom-and-son team! Slow recaps.

Mini Recaps

[Ep1This Man is From Mars

2051. Time travel is real as Qi Shuo keeps trying to go back in time…

He finally arrives in 2021. Lu Xiao is ranked at first place in high school, while Qi Yue is in last place, 352nd. When Qi Shuo finds her, he calls her mom. To prove he's her son, he shows her a bear pin. She recognizes the pin, but she still thinks he’s lost his mind and doesn’t believe him when he tries to explain. He goes on to say that he’s 24, and then lists off everything he knows about her, including her weight. lol
Qi Shuo's futuristic look includes this slicked back 'do with a blue strand.
He thinks about how she was when he was growing up, and she seems about the same to him. (They did a great job casting the much younger version of Qi Shuo, as the kid looks quite like the adult actor. The eyes and that mischievous smile with dimples! ^_^)

While they’re waiting for the genetic test results, he tells her that her company goes bankrupt and that she had died at the age of 47 due to illness. He's come here to change her fate - to make her actively pursue her husband. She asks who that is, and becomes outraged that it’s Lu Xiao of all people.

Three Days Ago. An emotionless Lu Xiao had put out a fire… and sprayed Qi Yue in the process. He had then awkwardly stood there and didn’t apologize to her, even after she demanded one. Not long after, she had also walked into a tree. She blames him for her change in luck.

Lu Xiao is busy working on a Back to the Past Project. Ou? While Qi Yue is griping about Lu Xiao and how he’s such bad luck, a handsome basketball player, Xu Zhao Yang, checks on her and this senior student seems interested in her.

Her streak of bad luck continues as Lu Xiao and her get into more bad situations together at school, which leads the school director to believe that they’re possibly dating.

Back at the genetic testing center, Qi Yue still can’t believe that Lu Xiao becomes her husband. The results are back. 99.9999% probability that she’s Qi Shuo’s mother. She’s not happy.

Epilogue: If everything says that he's the destined one, would you believe it?

When Lu Xiao and Qi Yue got into trouble at school, he’d gotten to leave first. She’d then promised to the Director that she would behave herself from now on.

[Ep2Did A Monkey Send You?

Qi Yue doesn’t want to go to her self-study class and would rather stay in bed. Her alarms go off one-by-one. But she's ticked off as she wasn't the one who did this! My favorite clock is the one that looks like a TV. lol

2049. Qi Shuo pushes a sickly Qi Yue around in a wheelchair at the hospital. He asks if she wants tofu pudding and she mentions that the vendor by her school is long gone as the owner was already an old woman at the time.

2021. Qi Shuo buys breakfast from this vendor today, including one serving of tofu pudding without peanuts (his mother is allergic to them). He then uses his ring to locate his target - Lu Xiao. He says hi to him, but Lu Xiao doesn’t know who he is. Qi Shuo says that they’ll be good friends soon. Lu Xiao doesn’t say anything but he does walk away. Qi Shuo then says that he guesses he also likes to read “Hyperspace” by Michio Kaku. Lu Xiao turns back around in surprise and asks how he knows this book, too. Now, Lu Xiao asks for his WeChat info, and Qi Shuo says that he’s forgotten his phone. Lu Xiao hands him his phone and Qi Shuo inputs the information for “Wonder Woman”. Sneaky boy.  Lu Xiao asks if he believes in time travel. Qi Shuo says of course and he needs to believe that he’ll succeed one day. In the future, Lu Xiao wrote the book “Time Travel Quests from the Future”.

Qi Shuo returns with breakfast and Qi Yue realizes that all of it was real. However, since he didn’t have money, he actually used her secret funds. Ha. She tries to go back to sleep but he informs her the water is about to be shut off. Later he points out that she has Lu Xiao’s WeChat friend request. She’s not happy about this and leaves to find a cab. He insists that she catch the bus. When it starts raining, he takes her umbrella away from her… as he knows that Lu Xiao is coming by with one. She sidles next to Lu Xiao and gets under the umbrella. So he lets her have it and keeps his distance from her. xD This guy is doing everything anti-romantic. On the bus, he ignores her to read his book. However, when she drops her phone, he actually picks it up and returns it to her. She then decides to accept his friend request.

When they arrive at school, she gets her bear pin confiscated as she’s pinned it to her uniform. So she goes to the Director’s office to look for it and Lu Xiao finds her there. The Director shows up so Qi Yue decides to hide under the desk while he’s talking to the Director - but then she bumps her head on the desk. Somehow, this is Lu Xiao's fault for not covering up for her.

At home, Qi Shuo is having a hard time adjusting to 2021 as AI technology doesn’t exist yet - and everything from the lights, TV and oven needs to be operated manually - not by voice command. Lu Xiao starts messaging "Wonder Woman", who he thinks is Qi Shuo, to ask about the time travel paradox.
She loses signal on her phone and raises it above her head but drops it on her head when Lu Xiao appears and startles her. She’s upset about yet another injury and tells him that he needs to be responsible for this. To her surprise he agrees and leans in quite close to her. He then takes her to the science lab to make her ice with chemicals for her face. She’s impressed but he tells her matter-of-factly that he’s done taking responsibility for her. She pauses to look at a message from Zhao Yang who asks if she has time to meet up.

Qi Shuo is back at home making a mess with the washer. But he leaves to find Qi Yue at the school. Later, when she returns home, she sees the mess he made and discovers her father sitting on the couch. He starts scolding her for not answering her phone, and she tries to leave with him when she realizes that Qi Shuo might be returning soon. Of course, he’s at the door and he quickly fibs that he’s her English tutor. Qi Yue leaves with her father to go to the family meal. At the dinner, Dad serves her some food with peanuts in it. When she picks them out of the dish, her grandpa scolds her for being so picky. She explains that she’s allergic to them and then shoves them into her mouth and then she leaves. She starts having an allergic reaction and Qi Shuo is waiting for her. He notices that she’s breaking out and asks if she just ate some peanuts. She asks how he knows this. He repeats that he’s her son so of course he knows. He quickly suggests that they go to the hospital. She mutters that they’re her family, too and they don’t even know about her peanut allergy and even called her pretentious. She says so he says that he’s from the future, and wants to change her, so was she terrible there? He replies that it’s not that she was terrible, but to change her fate so she could go to a good university and live a better life. Awww, this makes me tear up. She admits that she hasn't accepted that she’s his mother. He says okay, and then takes her to get medicine, and then says she needs to self-study at night.

Later, she follows Lu Xiao who sneaks into an abandoned building next to the school.

Epilogue: If I get closer to you, will I get closer to the answer?

Lu Xiao receives a message that says everything he wants to know is right here. He then debates about looking at the attached file.

[Ep3Home is a Place for Love

He’s doing something which creates sparks and she runs out thinking it’s an explosion. So she knocks him down and lands on top of him. He explains that he’s running an experiment. Well, something actually does explode as he’s currently left the project unattended.

Qi Shuo is at the hospital and runs into a glass-wearing student nurse. He rushes over where Lu Xiao is and fusses over Qi Yue. He then asks Lu Xiao why he didn’t protect her. Lu Xiao says he doesn’t know them – and then Qi Shuo hears Qi Yue’s voice nearby, as she’s standing and arguing with someone. Qi Shuo is relieved to see her unharmed. She’s defending her best friend, Deng Shu Ling, who is standing next to her - the glass-wearing student nurse. Qi Shuo suddenly remembers who she is when he hears her name. When he was a child, his chubby aunt Deng Shu Ling would bring him snacks. He’s shocked that she’s so skinny here. He introduces himself as Qi Yue’s cousin.

Qi Shuo has come up with a love-chasing plan: 1) Chasing love is like doing lots of exercises, Repeat again and again. 2) Try hard to have an atomic hug. 3) The quantum heartbeat of the two people. (Like Qi Yue, the use of science terminology/anecdotes are lost on me, too. lol)

Qi Yue finds ways to have more interactions with Lu Xiao but he’s quite robotic in his rejection with sound logic when she waits for him, approaches him, tries to offer him a drink, etc. Haha. This leads her to ask Qi Shuo if he’s lying about Lu Xiao being her future husband. He asks if it makes sense that “he came across mountains and seas” to lie to her. The Chinese title of this series.

The Director asks Lu Xia to offer one-on-one tutoring for his classmates, and Qi Yue immediately asks to apply for that privilege. And so, Lu Xiao just gives her the answers to the questions. She stops him to say that she only wants one answer a day. She later begs him to complete the alumni book for her, and she’d leave him alone for a day. He’s not budging, so she offers more days until it’s four days. He finally agrees.

Qi Yue joins her father at a business dinner. When one of the men asks if she has future plans, her father answers for her – she doesn’t study well, so he’s planned everything for her. He plans to send her abroad and get her married. She says that she didn’t agree to go abroad. Her father then offers her food - with peanuts. She reminds him again that she’s got a peanut allergy. She mentions that there’s a parents’ meeting tomorrow, and he says that he’ll be there. He then tells her to go as he’s got business with these two guys. He leaves money on the table for her to take a taxi back home. She tells him that she was kidding about the meeting tomorrow and then she takes off.

Somehow, she ends up drunk by the elevators. Lu Xiao shows up and asks how she is. She’s obviously quite down so he stays to keep her company. She asks him which one of his parents will attend the meeting tomorrow, and he avoids the question. She then says that she envies him for having someone who will attend. When she was little, Qi Yue remembers asking her mother why they didn’t stay at grandma’s house for dinner. She’d then asked why grandma liked her naughty elder brothers and not her. Mom had told her that’s not true as everyone likes her, and then she had given her the bear pin. Ah.

After they’ve gotten her her instant noodles at the convenience store, Lu Xiao tells her to send him Qi Shuo’s WeChat information (so he knows Wonder Woman is actually her…) to ask him to pick her up.

The next day, Qi Shuo shows up at the meeting making the excuse that her father is busy on a business trip. She asks how he knew about this and he shows her his phone – Lu Xiao had messaged him. The teacher tells Qi Shuo that it appears that her family doesn’t care about her grades. He says that happiness is more important than grades. However, he believes with effort, she’ll get into the college she wants. Afterwards, she asks if he really believes this. He says yes. She can’t believe that he has such confidence in her. He explains that in the future she told him that home is not a place for reasonable arguments and home is a place for unconditional love and trust. So he’s telling her the same thing now.

So she works hard and continues asking for help from Lu Xiao.

Spring 2022. Qi Yue shows up outside Lu Xiao’s place shouting his name over and over but he doesn’t reply. His father notices but doesn’t say anything. Lu Xiao makes the excuse that he needs to take out the garbage. She’s there to thank him with a pair of gaudy shoes, for helping her before the exam, as all of those questions did show up on the exam. He then hands her the garbage bag – it’s all of his notes. She then shows him a box of sparklers and they light them up together. He cracks a smile. Finally! She wishes him a happy new year and he repeats the same to her.

[English lyrics: Go back to the beginning and pass through… lol]

Epilogue: Didn’t Wang Xinling once sing the song “Love is having me always bothering you”?

Qi Shuo is eating instant noodles at home when he receives a message from Qi Yue asking what he’s doing. He says that he’s enjoying a big meal. She replies that she’s bored spending the Spring Festival at grandma’s. He replies with one of her mottos: “When you can’t bear it anymore, just bear it for some more time.” There’s a knock at the door and it’s a very large delivery for him. He drags the box inside and wonders what’s inside. Qi Yue messages him that she’s sent him a new year’s present. When he opens it, it’s Qi Yue with a hong bao. She’s not handing it over until he kowtows first though. And then she hands him a new cell phone, too. She then shows him the limited edition of sneakers for Lu Xiao. He’s not sure about that… XD They’re quite hideous.

[Ep4Unforgettable Insomnia

Qi Yue is now ranked at 152nd! Later, she receives a call from Zhao Yang who congratulates her and asks if she wants to go out to celebrate. She replies that it’s quite late, so they agree to meet for lunch the next day at noon.

The next day, she’s waiting for him at the restaurant and comes to find out that he’s training and forgot to tell her. *rolling eyes* He invited her! The Director calls her into his office for an explanation on the exam as she had answered in the same manner as the top 3rd student. She’s upset that only she was required to report to him but not the other student. She then runs into Lu Xiao who has a case from his father with ideas of top scorers in the recent years’ for gao kao. She’s upset and asks if he knows who ranked 156th, who doesn’t deserve a name and is suspected of cheating.

She returns home and Qi Shuo has prepared a sumptuous meal to celebrate her progress. She sits down and starts crying. He thinks she’s touched by his cooking and she tells him that she’s stuck at the bottom. She tearfully says that she tries but everyone still sees her at the bottom only. He consoles her by saying that they can’t change what others think so they can only be themselves. They’re interrupted by a knock on the door so he disappears into the bedroom.

She answers the door and it’s the top 3rd student, who tearfully apologizes for copying her answer to the last question when she went to the bathroom. Qi Yue asks if she isn’t in the top three. The student now starts sobbing and says that Lu Xiao came to see her and she’s already told the teacher about this. She asks if Qi Yue could not tell anyone else about this. Qi Yue is mostly shocked that Lu Xiao did this. Aww. Our ice block is thawing.

Later she sits down to lunch at Lu Xiao’s table but he tells her that he’s used to eating alone. She tells him that she just wanted to thank him and invites him to a meal tomorrow at 7 o’clock. He tries to say that he’s not available but she cuts him off and leaves.

The next day, she’s moping at home about Lu Xiao not showing up. Qi Shuo points out that she invited him for breakfast. He asks her to go over exactly what she had told him, and she realizes that she said 7 o’clock only. It’s 6:55 p.m. now! She leaves and shows up 30 minutes late. Lu Xiao is still there but since he’s seen her, he goes to leave. She stops him from leaving and tries to go inside but the restaurant has been reserved. She lets Qi Shuo know and he calls her – and suggests that she bring him home for a meal and he’d take care of the cooking.

So she brings him home but doesn’t give Qi Shuo a head’s up, who hides in the kitchen. While Lu Xiao is exploring, Qi Shuo army crawls out of the kitchen towards the front door and quietly leaves. She then pulls out these four dishes plus a soup that she made. Lu Xiao starts looking around the room and she finally asks what he’s looking for. He replies, delivery boxes. lol He finally says the dishes look good, so she must have a talent for it. She then leave to get the rice.

Outside, Qi Shuo overhears Shu Ling explaining on the phone that she can’t switch shifts with them right now. She explains that she’s just arrived outside her place – and Qi Shuo interrupts to say loudly that it’s their anniversary, and he will tear apart anyone who dares to ruin it. The caller quickly hands up. Shu Ling thanks him and he starts saying that there’s no need to thank him as she’s his mother’s – He amends it to Qi Yue’s best friend. She replies that she doesn’t know how to refuse people. He says that the symbol of maturity of an adult is to learn to say no. She worries about offending her colleagues. She then receives a call from the hospital, and she leaves as her mother isn’t doing well.

Qi Yue returns with the rice – one giant bowl for herself and a normal-sized bowl for him. Lu Xiao says she’s more different than he’d thought. She thinks he’s referring to her being in last place. He explains that he knows where she’s ranked and knows her name. She asks what he meant then – and he replies that she eats more than he’d thought. xD!

Shu Ling finds out that her mother is so weak and could fall into a coma anytime. Qi Shuo recalls his mother laying in the hospital bed. So he tells Shu Ling that her mother will be fine.

When he returns home later, he sees that Qi Yue left him some food and she’s fallen asleep at the table. He asks how it went, and she says that Lu Xiao said she’s gifted and asked her to make it to Qingnan University. Qi Shuo explains that they need to see each other every day if she wants their relationship to last longer.

Qi Yue works hard to prepare for gao kao and she passes! She gives a speech as a class representative but she struggles to read the speech prepared by Qi Shuo. Lu Xiao interrupts to say words of encouragement and to save her from further embarrassment. When they go to exit the stage, she slips off the first step and he grabs onto her hand to keep her from falling.

Later, Qi Yue is unable to sleep as she thinks about the times that Lu Xiao has held onto her hand. She tosses and turns until she finally gets up to look at the photo of Lu Xiao and herself holding hands after the stage incident. She thinks, “Lu Xiao, I will study hard and become as good as you.”

Epilogue: Ahhh! I think I like him/her.

Lu Xiao is studying at home but he pauses to jot down a note: “Courage is not about being fearless. There is something more important than fear.” It’s Qi Yue’s words, and he’s looking at the same photo of them. He thinks, “Qi Yue. I believe you can do it” and then he smiles!

[Ep5Thirty-Six Stratagems for Love

It’s the first day of college and Qi Shuo helps his mother wake up by playing very loud and annoying sounds on a wireless speaker. He then pulls her up in bed and has her read a card outloud. She begrudgingly reads it: “I, Qi Yue, will work hard in university and try to get rid of the bad image of a study slacker.”.

When her toothbrush head goes missing, he shows up and makes her read the next card: “I, Qi Yue, will work hard to pursue Lu Xiao.” She says yes, she knows. When she sits down to eat breakfast, he shoves a card in between her mouth and the sandwich. He says they have to make a pact and this is the last rule. She sets down her sandwich and reads the card: “I, Qi Yue, guarantee to stay away from every senior…” She stops and looks at him to ask if he wants her to be a virtuous woman of modern chastity. He nods and she says no, not unless he’s transferring her to an all girls’ school. He says, only if she can get through him as he blocks her in at the table. She says, fine, but if a senior pursues her then… He says that he’ll be her eyes and ears, and she’ll be under his strict surveillance. He then hands her a glass of milk and when she goes to drink it, he pulls her free hand towards a red ink pad… to get her fingerprint on all three cards. He then offers to take her to school – on the back of his bicycle. She’s surprised and he says that this is how she’d take him to school when he was young.

When he was little, she’d told him to get on the bike behind her or he’d have to walk. So he’d grumpily gotten on and they’d wobbled their way away… History repeats itself. She grumpily gets on and he wobbles them away to school. When he spots Lu Xiao riding his bike, he stops and pretty much shoves his mother at him. He claims to have a dropped bike chain so Lu Xiao agrees to help him. Lu Xiao offers her the use of his shirt which he’s just removed, as he’s noticed that she’s wearing a skirt. Qi Shuo quickly makes his getaway. She climbs on after putting on the shirt and hugs him around the waist. He tells her to not grab so tightly as the road is pretty flat. xD He’s such a robot.

The two arrive at school, and she thanks him for the ride. She then suggests that they have lunch together. They’re interrupted by a female student asking for directions, and Qi Yue quickly hands her a map after he explains that he’s also new to the school. They arrive near the girls’ dorm, and he just leaves her to it. She then meets her roommate, Xie Jia Jia, who drags her away for gardening work. Zhao Yang spots her as she struggles to help her roommate carry this large bag of fertilizer. When he offers to help with it, she says yes…while her roommate says no. She then recalls the rule to stay away from any seniors… So now she says no, and her roommate says yes now. Qi Yue suddenly grabs the bag and walks away.

The two go to their room and meet their other roommates, Ding Fei and Ouyang Ling. The foursome decide to become sworn sisters with plans to graduate on the same day. Jia Jia hands her a can of something to commemorate this moment, and when Qi Yue opens it - everyone starts gagging at the foul stench. She hears someone saying that someone named Lu Xiao is looking for her, so she leaves to meet him. She goes outside and he notices the stench, so she keeps her distance and tells him that she’s going to go change. She runs back inside. And it turns out that Lu Xiao is actually waiting for Liang Yu Fei as he’d bumped into her mother who had asked him to bring her card to her as she’d forgotten it. She thanks him and then asks if he has time for a meal sometime. He says he doesn’t have time as he’s busy. She asks if she needs help later, if she can count on him. He says yes, as her mother has already asked him to and then he leaves. Qi Yue returns in a new outfit but Lu Xiao is gone.

She’s now on the phone with Qi Shuo complaining about how he disappeared. She drops some paperwork while she’s on the phone with him. When Zhao Yang offers to help pick up the papers, she tells him to wait and does it herself. Then she puts on sunglasses and pulls him aside to talk to him. When they’re interrupted by Ouyang Ling, Qi Yue acts like she’s reading something and doesn’t know Zhao Yang at all. After her roommate leaves, he asks if she’s afraid someone will see them together. She says that it’s complicated but she promised someone that she’d stay away from a senior. He says today’s his birthday and then pulls out a ticket and says that he wanted to invite her to this masquerade. She wishes him happy birthday but says that she may not be able to go. With disappointment he says that it’s his birthday today. She then realizes it’s a masquerade, where people wear masks, so she decides to accept and tells him to keep it a secret.

Elsewhere, Lu Fei invites Lu Xiao to the masquerade as she has the last two tickets. He says it’s so boring as he doesn’t like such things. She asks if she says that she wants to go, if he’d go with her, as she doesn’t think it’s safe. He replies, if it’s not safe then why does she need to go. He then receives a message from Qi Yue: “I’m in danger. Come and save me. I’m at the masquerade. SOS.” He sighs and then calls her but her number is busy. He tries calling a few times but can’t get through. So he returns to Lu Fei and takes one of the tickets from her and says that he’ll transfer the money to her later.

Qi Yue is sitting alone at a table at the party, and when Zhao Yang finds her, she gives him a birthday present. He accepts the present, doesn’t even open it, and then suggests that she join him on the dance floor but she refuses. He leaves and she spots a worried looking Lu Xiao running in. She gets up to greet him by saying he doesn’t fit in with the theme. He asks if she’s not hurt as he received an email from her saying she was in danger. She laughs and says if she were in danger why would she turn on the computer, log into her email and – and then she stops and asks to see this email. He shows her the email which makes her look around and realize that it’s a trap. So she runs away and Lu Xiao doesn’t go with her. She returns to grab him by the hand and the two run away together.

When they stop, they realize they’re holding hands so they awkwardly let go. She asks if he was just worried about her just now. He claims that it’s because they were high school classmates. She replies that she wants to eat something. So they go to the canteen, and she decides to stick her head through the counter window… while he just opens the door next to her and walks through. He pays for their instant noodles and when they sit down to eat it - hers is cold and his is warm. She’s confused and he explains that there’s a cold and a warm spigot on the machine. He swaps with her.

When he returns to his dorm room, he sees his roommates are all playing some online game.. He thinks about Qi Yue telling him to live in the real world and have fun - so he asks what they’re playing - it’s Call of Duty. Then he asks about how to open an account, and they’re all so eager to show him.

Meanwhile, Qi Yue returns and her roommates notice that she seems to be in love, so they interrogate her. She says that she went to a masquerade party. They tell her that it’s just the seniors treating rich new girls in the name of celebrating their birthdays. She says that doesn’t believe it as she knows this senior.

Zhao Yang is happily looking at his registration form to participate in the basketball tournament in college. When he enters his home, he finds his mother on the floor picking up broken pieces of ceramics, as the dining table’s been unended. He helps her up and tells her that he got the scholarship so they should go to dinner to celebrate. She asks how that’s possible, but he says that he’s awesome so go change.

Qi Yue and her roommates are at some sidewalk sale and her roommates notice a customized basketball with the name Xu Zhao Yang on it. She asks the vendor how much he wants for it, and he says he’ll accept whatever she’ll pay. So she runs off without it, looking for Zhao Yang, who doesn’t look too happy. He crumples up a piece of paper and throws it into the trash can. She notices this. Zhao Yang goes to see the coach, who asks if he’s picked up all of the applications. He hands him only his own, and when the coach asks where everyone else is, including his roommate’s, Zhao Yang says that he can’t do it because of a family matter. Red flag. The coach says there’s also a bonus for whoever gets a spot in the game.

Qi Yue is waiting for him, and asks him about how he liked her present. He says yes, he likes her basketball. She asks if he’s heard of the saying, “Do as you would be done by”, and even if he hasn’t, then he should at least respect others at least. He asks what she means by that. She says, nothing but one shouldn’t be too selfish. She then pulls out a piece of paper and says that she pulled out something of his roommate’s, so please give it to him. It’s the crumpled up form he’d thrown away. She leaves as he looks at it and then crumples it up again. (This guy doesn’t look that much like Hu Yi Tian but certain expressions - especially the eyes remind me of him. *cringe*)

Qi Yue then puts on an act for her roommates, that if she didn’t have a bet with her cousin Qi Shuo about pursuing Lu Xiao, she would not have gone to that masquerade. She enlists their help.

The next day, Jia Jia waylays him with questions and then leaves, in order for Qi Yue to talk to him. He sees that she looks cold, so he claims he’s a bit warm and hands her his shirt as they go to class together. When they arrive in class, Jia Jia has been bribing the other students to not sit in the two seats in the front. After they sit down, Jia Jia and Ouyang Ling hand her breakfast. He says that he’s already eaten but she says it’s not a big deal to eat two meals. He says she’s got five minutes.

Qi Shuo tells Qi Yue that their interactions have increased but Lu Xiao’s response rate is zero. She’s confused and says that he’s cold-hearted. He explains that although the response rate is zero, in his care and concern for her every day, he’s reaching peak levels. Qi Yue starts muttering, “abandon” over and over, and Qi Shuo responds with “don’t give up” over and over.

Epilogue: These are all the memories of our efforts together, please keep it well.

Qi Shuo is writing in a diary to his mother.

Mom – When you see this diary, you must be surprised and confused. From the day I came to you, these words begin to flow with time. I open it every day, write down everything and tell you everything.

He starts a new entry with the date: “September 27, 2022”

[Ep6The First Kiss Disappeared

Qi Shuo notices a sign for a physics lecture on time travel. Qi Yue mutters that they really are father-and-son as they’re both obsessed with science. She then says she’s worked so hard to get him to notice her, and then she asks if perhaps Lu Xiao is a robot.
Qi Yue has a dream that she’s walking at the beach with Lu Xiao, who suddenly walks away and and straight into the ocean. She calls after him to come back but he doesn’t seem to hear her. She wakes up from her own screaming. Qi Shuo comes in to check on her and she says that she had a nightmare about Lu Xiao jumping into the sea. She wonders if there’s something going on with him, so she calls him. He hangs up on her and Qi Shuo explains that it’s also 3:30 a.m. Ou. She then asks for him to tell her a story. He replies that it’s usually mothers telling their children a story… She asks to hear about the future - she wants to know when she’s in a relationship with Lu Xiao, and what made him fall in love with her. Qi Shuo looks around before saying this was before he was born so he doesn’t know. She then asks if they’re each other’s first love or did she like someone else or did he. Qi Shuo says that he’s not sure if they’re each other’s first love, but she’ll have a love rival soon.

When Lu Xiao is approached by different girls in class, in the canteen, at the convenience store, at the pool, Qi Yue is always there to greet him/stop the girls. The best is when he gets out of the pool and she puts a parka on him, chiding him for trying to catch a cold. Haha. Qi Yue and her roommates are also following him around to see who the love rival is. She finally sees that he’s on friendly terms with Yu Fei.

She learns that she’s his childhood sweetheart, who used to live in Lu Xiao's grandmother’s home. She’s whining about this to Qi Shuo who seems more interested in eating sunflower seeds and watching TV than listening to her. He explains that he’s not watching TV but watching the strategy to defeat the love rival. If she can’t beat her, then she should join her. So she tries to be friends with her, claiming that needs a pretty girl for a friend, but Yu Fei isn’t interested. Whenever Yu Fei interacts with Lu Xiao, Qi Yue pops up out of nowhere, and she even tries to follow Yu Fei to the lab. So she messages Qi Shuo for help, and he’s already become the new volunteer/graduate student at the lab. So now whenever Yu Fei has a question for Lu Xiao, Qi Shuo gets right in between them.

Qi Shuo has managed to secure the perfect opportunity for her – dinner with the students at the lab, and Lu Xiao is also going. She says that she made plans to have dinner with Shu Ling. He says that she can bring her, too. Dinner turns into a drinking game of Fold Fingers. Any question asked and if it applies, then a finger gets folded. When asked if he likes anyone here, Lu Xiao says no, which makes Qi Yue happy. Now the rest of the prompts apply to Qi Yue, so she’s the first one out. She then shares a secret: Qi Shuo is her son. No one believes her so she needs to tell another. So she says that she likes Lu Xiao, but everyone already knows that so now she needs to drink. She gestures at Qi Shuo to drink it for her but he just shakes his head. When she reaches for her glass, Lu Xiao grabs it and everyone looks at him in surprise. He says that he’s thirsty and quickly drinks the alcohol. Now Qi Yue is happy but Yu Fei is angry.

Afterwards, Lu Xiao ends up going back to the school with Yu Fei while Qi Yue is happily walking with Shu Ling and Qi Shuo. He asks Qi Yue if she isn’t concerned about Yu Fei, but she isn’t. Shu Ling says that she seems to be in a good mood. She replies that Lu Xiao said that he didn’t like anyone, which includes her and Yu Fei. Qi Shuo asks her why she’s so sure that he doesn’t like Yu Fei. She replies that Yu Fei is still standing at the starting point after all of these years.

Another night, Qi Yue goes to see Lu Xiao who is on duty at the lab. She finds him asleep and drops off an invitation for him. She then notices the science papers and wonders why she can’t understand any of it, and the gap between them seems too large. She wonders what makes her head so different from his. She leans really close to examine his sleeping form and he ends up turning his head in his sleep and they have an accidental kiss. He opens his eyes and she backs away but ends up falling onto his lap. (~20:45) After a bit of staring, she finally gets up and stammers out that she’s leaving before running away. He starts blushing as he watches her go.

Lu Xiao is sitting in class and wondering if he needs to explain that it was an accident so there’s no misunderstanding. Afterwards, Qi Shuo invites everyone to lunch and both Lu Xiao and Qi Yue both say they have something to do. Lu Xiao leaves first and Qi Shuo is curious to know why she’s behaving so weird. Later, Qi Shuo sends her on an errand and makes sure that Lu Xiao will check on her. She ends up getting scared as it’s dark out and ends up bumping her head. Lu Xiao finds her and piggybacks her back home. She says that she’ll return his jacket to him after washing it.

Epilogue: Between the nervousness caused by a first kiss and the panic caused by sending a wrong message which can make your heart beat faster?

Lu Xiao receives a message from “Wonder Woman” asking him who the girl was, but he doesn’t want to respond. His roommate says if he doesn’t like her, he should take the opportunity to get rid of her. His roommate takes his phone and responds with “She is my girlfriend, so don’t bother me anymore.” He gets upset and immediately recalls the message. When she asks what it was that he had recalled, this makes him smile. Ah. He knows.

[Ep7Your Honey is My Poison
I love his smile - his entire aura in this!
Qi Yue goes to the lab to return Lu Xiao’s jacket to him. When Qi Shuo goes to leave, Lu Xiao tries to keep him there. She tells Qi Shuo to thank him for the use of his jacket, and then hands it over to him. Lu Xiao accepts it from Qi Shuo, however he finds something inside one of the pockets. He pulls it out and says that the strawberry flavored lipgloss isn’t his. Qi Shuo smirks at this but he takes it and gives it to Qi Yue. Qi Shuo shoves her towards Lu Xiao, who can’t take it anymore and runs away as he claims to have a question for the professor. Qi Shuo tells her to tell him what’s going on. She won't, so he threatens to go to Lu Xiao.

She tells him that he saved her, but Qi Shuo comments on how he knows about her lipgloss flavor. He knows that they must’ve shared a kiss. He says that he must be nervous right now, so she should stay by his side and make him notice her existence even more.

Later, Zhao Yang finds Qi Yue and asks why she hasn’t been responding to him. She tells him that he knows what he did. He acts like he doesn’t know what she’s referring to. So she tells him good luck in the competition where he’s the only participant and then walks away. He angrily scowls after her.

Her roommates suggest that she stay on top of Lu Xiao. So the next day, she waits outside his dorm for him but he’s on the phone with his grandmother, and Yu Fei shows up right next to him. Qi Yue is now waylaid by Zhao Yang, who says that she seems to be avoiding him. (Yes, you dumb jerk!) She says that she’s busy as she tries to keep an eye on Lu Xiao. He insists on them spending time together so he can explain himself to her. They go to the canteen but she’s mostly interested in watching Lu Xiao who is still with Yu Fei. He then pulls out the basketball she’d gotten him before, and then waves over some guy to join them. The guy says that he’s sorry for selling his stuff before… as Zhao Yang surreptitiously pays this guy for saying that. But Qi Yue isn’t really paying much attention to him.

At the other table, Yu Fei shows Lu Xiao a magic trick with a coin. He shows her a better one and now Qi Yue truly stabs at her food with chopsticks. She finally gets up and then walks by their table to make a gagging sound at them. Lu Xiao sees her and tells Yu Fei that the guy who followed her won’t be doing anything, so he leaves her by herself. After he leaves, Yu Fei and Zhao Yang wave at each other. Ugh. I really dislike both of them.

Qi Yue is seething on the treadmill while Qi Shuo teases her for thinking that the magic trick is considered to be intimate contact between them. He suggests that she get even with him, instead of seething here at the gym. She doesn’t know how to do that, so he says that he’ll invite Lu Xiao to dinner tonight and they can meet there. Zhao Yang won’t stop showing up wherever Qi Yue is.

Lu Xiao is distracted while meeting with the professor. He looks at his phone and sees a message Qi Shuo, who says that Qi Yue’s phone is out of power but she’s asked him to go to dinner tonight at 6 p.m. He smiles at this, and Qi Shuo continues saying that he doesn’t have any other appointments and should take the initiative as a man. Lu Xiao sends him 👌 and grins over this. He quickly stops grinning when the professor returns.

Qi Yue arrives at the restaurant with flowers and waits for Lu Xiao. Elsewhere, Yu Fei has set up a picnic for herself and Lu Xiao. But he’s only here to check on her “stalker” situation. When she says that she’s driven him away, he says that he needs to go as he has an appointment. She drags him over to the picnic and he stops her and leaves.

It’s 7 p.m. now and Qi Yue is still waiting for Lu Xiao. Zhao Yang shows up and tells her that he won’t show up. Zhao Yang notices the bandage on her achilles from her heels, so he runs outside to buy her a pair of shoes. He returns with them and she accepts them. She finally hears from Lu Xiao, who says that he can’t make it as something came up. She’s annoyed, and Zhao Yang smirks at this. He takes her somewhere for noodles and makes up some sob story. She then changes her opinion on him. Ou. Not good…

Lu Xiao returns to his room… quite drunk from having a can of beer. He starts whining to his roommate about wanting to have his first kiss back… and mutters something about strawberry-flavored lipgloss. Hahaha.

So Qi Yue returns home to Qi Shuo, and complains about Lu Xiao not showing up again. He’s surprised, and asks why she’s still late then. She says that she was hungry. She then asks why it has to be him. He insists that it’s fate and he’s the only one. He then says that tomorrow’s his birthday so invite him over for dinner. She says he’s a Taurus and it’s now November. He replies that for her marriage, it doesn’t matter when he was born.

Epilogue: Why doesn’t beer taste like strawberries?

Lu Xiao had shown up at the restaurant and seen Qi Yue accepting the shoes from Zhao Yang. So he’d gotten upset and texted her that something came up. Instead, he’d ended up drinking a beer by himself. When Yu Fei had called him, he’d actually ignored her call. Aaaah, this is why our guy was suddenly soooo drunk!

[Ep8I Quit

Lu Xiao asks his roommate to switch lab shifts with him as he’s going to Qi Shuo’s birthday party. He practices smiling before knocking on the door. Bwahaha, his practice smile here. When the door opens, he asks Qi Yue where Qi Shuo is. A very angry Qi Yue screams to ask him who that is, and for him to get lost.

12 Hours Ago. Qi Yue leaves the dorms and Zhao Yang is waiting for her. She returns to her room to avoid him. She asks her roommate to ask for leave for her class. Lu Xiao is disappointed that Qi Yue isn’t in class. Ouyang Ling tells him that she’s in the dorms with stomach issues. Then his roommate tells him that some guy was waiting outside the dorms for Qi Yue this morning. So he quickly goes over to see her and even brings her medicine. She forgives him for standing her up again, and invites him over to her house for Qi Shuo’s birthday. He promises to be there on time tonight. So she accepts the medicine and goes back upstairs.

Qi Yue is trying to find a present for Qi Shuo, and after talking to Shu Ling, she realizes that she should get a family portrait for him. She hangs up the call, and Zhao Yang confesses to her. She rejects him and says that she has someone else that she likes. He knows that it’s Lu Xiao and he’s not happy about this.

Qi Shuo looks for Qi Yue but he can’t find her anywhere. He happens to see the remnants of a public confession, and flips out when the lady cleaning up the mess tells him that she accepted… He runs up behind Zhao Yang and kicks down onto the ground. He then grabs him by the shirt and screams that he warned him to stay away from Qi Yue. The two start fighting until they’re dragged apart by the other students.

Qi Yue returns home and has this horrible aged family portrait done of the three of them – herself, Qi Shuo and Lu Xiao. She finds a beaten-up Qi Shuo waiting for her, and when he sees the gift box, he asks if it’s a present from Zhao Yang, along with his love confession. She admits that he did confess to her, so Qi Shuo angrily throws the box across the room. He starts screaming that he’s warned her to stay away from him as he’s not a good person. She argues that she’s been chasing Lu Xiao and has become a joke on campus. She screams why she has to change fate, and not Lu Xiao. He explains that only she can change her fate. She says that he doesn’t trust anyone. He replies yes, he can’t trust her to do this so that’s why he’s here. The two continue arguing until he explodes and says that if he had a choice, he would never choose her to be his mother. She sobs at this and says if she had a choice, then he wouldn’t be her son. He decides to leave and angrily walks out of there. Wow. How did this escalate so quickly? There’s a knock on the door - it’s Lu Xiao, and we’re caught up….

Qi Shuo is hides inside Shu Ling’s bathroom when Qi Yue shows up. Qi Yue sobs as she talks about her day – getting the ugly family portrait for Qi Shuo, rejecting Zhao Yang’s confession, and finally quarreling with Qi Shuo. After Qi Yue goes to use the bathroom and nearly catches Qi Shuo in the shower – so Shu Ling says that she needs to shower and kicks her out. Shu Ling then tends to his wounds. She asks if he could watch her dog for her since she’ll be out of the house. So he’s staying in her living room.

Qi Yue feels the absence of Qi Shuo. Lu Xiao has sent a text asking why she’s so angry. She doesn’t respond. When she goes to class later, Lu Xiao is so excited to see her and removes the book from the seat next to his, but she ignores him and sits down next to Ouyang Ling instead. After class, he tells her that he has an experiment report for her to give to Qi Shuo. She angrily tells him that she’s not his deliveryman and walks off in a huff. Poor Lu Xiao isn’t sure what caused this.

Lu Xiao goes to the library, the canteen, and around campus and sees Qi Yue everywhere. He smiles at the memory of her smiling face but then he drops the smile when he realizes she’s not actually around right now. He’s interrupted from his thoughts by Yu Fei who grabs onto his arm and asks him to help her with the boy who’s been harassing her. He tells her to be independent enough to reject that person and take care of her own problems. Then he sees Qi Yue’s roommate, he leaves Yu Fei to ask them about Qi Yue. Jia Jia says that Qi Shuo’s gone missing and she’s about to call the police as it’s been over 24 hours. He offers to help her look for him, and so they go around town looking for him - and showing a photo of him asleep with an open mouth. Ha.

Epilogue: My son is fierce when he’s angry but is cute usually.

Qi Shuo sleepwalks and recites the numbers for pi, all the way to the 14th decimal place and Qi Yue is recording this. When he’s done, he slumps back to his room. Bwahaha, he’s so cute here. (BTW, I originally watched this ep on 3/14. Hehe.)

[Ep9The Sweet Pawns

Qi Shuo is amazed and horrified at the amount of snacks at Shu Ling’s place, so it’s no wonder she gets fat in the future. Later, he picks her up after work, in a flashy red sports car. Everyone they encounter who knows Shu Ling assumes that they’re dating. It turns out that's only because he’s given away all of her snacks! She's upset but then he gives his reasoning: the junk food is unhealthy and he’ll be living there and cooking healthier foods for her now. Okay, I get it, he has good intentions but I’m not sure I like this approach.

Qi Yue and Lu Xiao continue looking for Qi Shuo. She then starts blaming herself for making him run away. Later she calls Shu Ling who says she doesn’t know anything. Shu Ling tells Qi Shuo that both Qi Yue and Lu Xiao have been looking for him. Qi Shuo is happy as that means the two of them have been spending time together. He then decides to post a video of himself at a resort, so Qi Yue and Lu Xiao make their way there to pick him up. At the final rest stop, Lu Xiao asks her if she wants to use the restroom, but when she doesn’t say anything, he leaves her to sleep in the car. After he exits the car, moments later, she wakes up and says that she wants to use the restroom and crawls out of there. When Lu Xiao returns, he sees that the bundle of blankets in the form of a lump are still back there, so he drives off. Shu Ling calls Qi Yue - which is answered by Lu Xiao, as the phone is charging - to ask where she is. Lu Xiao says that she’s asleep and they’re on their way to the resort. He reaches back and tries to wake her up but he realizes that she’s not there and hangs up the call. Shu Ling and Qi Shuo now run outside to try to catch a ride to get to her but it’s too busy right now.

Meanwhile, Qi Yue gets out of the restroom and gets into a car that looks exactly like Lu Xiao’s. The driver returns and asks who she is. He finally lets her out of the car. Lu Xiao finally returns to the rest stop and is relieved to see her sitting on the grass. She complains that it took him long enough. When she tries to get up, she realizes her legs are numb from sitting there for so long. And so he carries her into his arms and says that first, from today onwards, she needs to stay within his sight. Secondly, wherever she goes, she has to hold his hand, as he won’t let the same thing happen again. She smiles and hugs him around the neck. Qi Yue calls Shu Ling, who says that she’s glad he found her, and she’d tell her when she hears from Qi Shuo.

Lu Xiao and Lu Xiao arrive at the resort and are told that there’s only one room available, room no. 520. 520 (wu er ling) = homophone to I love you (wo ai ni). Qi Yue overhears that someone named An Bendeng has booked out the remaining rooms except this one. She thinks the name sounds familiar and then realizes it’s Qi Shuo – who made her recite the word “abandon” over and over when he was drilling her to study. When they get to the room, it appears to be a lover’s suite as there’s a heart made of rose petals on the bed. Qi Yue quickly pulls the cover over it and then lays across the bed to hide it from Lu Xiao. Ha.

Innocent Lu Xiao asks if she needs to take a shower and she says no as she continues just laying there. When he leaves for the restroom, Qi Yue starts looking around the room for wherever Qi Shuo is hiding and/or whatever trick he’s playing. Room service comes knocking and Lu Xiao says he’s ordered food for them. So Qi Yue sniffs the bouquet of flowers on the car, and then she removes the domed top to reveal - a black negligee. Lu Xiao looks at the item in consternation (xD, his face!) and it only gets worse when she lifts out the negligee to reveal how little it covers. She angrily throws it over his face and calls him a scumbag. At home, Qi Shuo tells Shu Ling that they must’ve received his present by now. She asks if it’s really okay for him to play with them like this. He says this isn’t playing.

At the hotel, Qi Yue wakes up in the bed and notices Lu Xiao’s tall frame sleeping on the couch. So she walks up to look at him very closely, and he wakes up startled by her face being so close to his. However, his neck is now stuck in an awkwardly painful angle, so she offers to give him a massage. After she’s done fixing his neck, she goes to open the curtains and when the bright sunlight shines on her face, Lu Xiao can’t help but smile sweetly at her. She smiles back at him and then turns back to look at the bright sun. (~23:40, They’ve made us wait to see his face light up like this!)

Epilogue: When a muddlehead meets a pedant, they are the perfect match.

At the hotel, Qi Yue is unable to sleep, so she gets up and pulls the blanket up higher to cover a sleeping Lu Xiao’s shoulders. When she looks at his face, she thinks about their recent interactions - including their accidental case and his recent request for her to stay by his side. She giggles quietly at this before she turns to go back to bed. But then Lu Xiao says, “Wait”, which makes her look back in surprise. But he’s still asleep. He then softly says, “Qi Yue. Don’t get lost again. Qi Yue.” She grins broadly at this and then giggles before tiptoeing back to the bed.

[Ep10All for Having a Son

Qi Yue has decided to stop looking for Qi Shuo as he’s told her in his own way that he’s somewhere safe. Lu Xiao then offers to send her home. She offers to send him home first and then he can send her home. They’re interrupted by someone handing them a flyer for an invitation to play an interactive couple trust game in the square. The fall back exercise – trust your partner to catch you when you fall backwards. She wants to play the game, while he doesn’t seem keen on playing a game. She drags him to it, and out of their view, Shu Ling removes the mask she was wearing when she handed them the flyer. She lets Qi Shuo know that Qi Yue took the bait as he had expected.
The future is weird.
Qi Shuo calls the start of the game – oops - he forgot that he was supposed to do this without words. Qi Yue knows it’s them so she drags them into participating in the game with the rest of them. She then starts the countdown and starts the game - but she turns around and jumps into Lu Xiao’s arms and hugs him around the neck. She says that she doesn’t like to play-by-the-book. He says that he knew this. She says this isn’t a game of trust but of tacit agreement. Qi Yue then has Lu Xiao set her down, and then she tells her son to come home. Our not-so-sneaky-duo then runs away and they finally remove their masks.

Qi Yue shows up at Shu Ling’s place without prior notice, and she knows the passcode so she just goes inside. Qi Shuo is forced to hide outside on the balcony. When she’s distracted by Tuan Tuan (the dog), he sneaks back inside into the shower. Shu Ling suddenly shows up and sends her away. However, when Qi Shuo finds out that she thinks someone’s been following her, he runs outside to follow her as he thinks it could be Zhao Yang. There is someone following her, so Qi Shuo stops to look for a weapon and loses sight of both Qi Yue and the unknown man. He stands around for a moment before Qi Yue pops back out and says “what a coincidence” and the man with the cap removes his cap - it’s Lu Xiao. She tells him that it’s over.

At home, Qi Shuo makes an apology dinner. But before they can eat, he says that they should say something. She starts by telling him to have the first drink of his beer as an apology to her – as he shouldn’t have suspected her and gotten mad at her, because she had already rejected Zhao Yang properly. So he drinks. The second and third drink – his use of harsh words and then running away from home. However, as they continue doing this - they both end up drunk. Later while in bed and in a drunken stupor, she tells him about her nightmare - a man walking into the ocean - and it’s him. She’s worried about him disappearing. He tells her that what if one day in the future… But she’s fallen back to sleep. Qi Shuo writes in his journal: Don’t leave Qi Yue?

Shu Ling returns home to a quiet home. But she finds Qi Shuo’s notes everywhere. She even makes herself a proper bowl of noodles instead of only snacks. As she’s eating, she receives a message from Qi Shuo: He’s going to bring her fruits and vegetables the next day.

Lu Xiao auditions for the drama club, so Qi Yue tags along. Qi Yue cannot act… But they both make it. Zhao Yang tries to audition but he’s too late. He’s really here to see Qi Yue, who reminds him that she’s told him to stop following her. He’s still working with Yu Fei to get who they each want. She thinks that she still has a chance as she hasn’t been rejected yet, unlike him.

There’s a basketball game coming up between Zhao Yang’s department, physical education and physics department. To everyone’s surprise, Lu Xiao actually knows how to play basketball (but he just doesn’t like to play). Qi Yue finds out that he’s actually a forward for tomorrow’s game so she goes to sleep early.

The next morning, she shows up with signs that read “Lu Xiao, Lu Xiao, the Treasure of Physics” and she starts the chant and forces her reluctant roommates to join her. During the game, Zhao Yang knocks down Lu Xiao on the court and tells him that she’ll become his girlfriend. Lu Xiao tells him to say that to her directly. Zhao Yang’s department wins the game but he’s quite unhappy, as it was only by one point.

It’s December 21, 2021 and Qi Shuo writes his 7th letter to his mother.

Epilogue: Quantum Entanglement, Special No. 7 Jersey.

When Lu Xiao turned in his participation form for the game, he’s asked what number he wanted on his jersey. With a smile, he had said 7 (qi, like Qi Yue).

[Ep11How Can Juliet Kiss Romeo?

Their play isn’t going well as Qi Yue is bored at rehearsal and Lu Xiao is too focused on using science to create the props. Suddenly, Yu Fei informs them that the Student Union has decided to reduce the budget of clubs – so the drama club is done. Qi Yue asks her if she’s targeting them. Yu Fei replies that she doesn’t have the capability to do that. She then tells Lu Xiao that her mother has asked him to come over for a family dinner. The president of the club says there’s no need to keep rehearsing. Now Qi Yue is all about keeping the club going as she doesn’t want to listen to Yu Fei. She does want to save the club because Lu Xiao is very into it. When Qi Shuo finds out that the club has been disbanded, he sends both of them to the rehearsal room, along with the other members (absent their president). So then they all agree to not disband, and will put on an outdoor show.

Later, Qi Yue is trying to figure out how to kiss Lu Xiao, so she’s ruining the rehearsal again with her whimsical thoughts. xD Later, she tries the eat-something-too-hot-and-pucker-her-lips trick but that doesn’t work as she ends up choking and spitting her food into his hair. Ha! Next, she tries the got-an-eyelash-stuck-in-her-eye trick and he looks at her but they’re interrupted by Jia Jia who drags her away to work on their assignment that is due in an hour.

Now that he's alone, Yu Fei approaches him and asks why he didn’t show up to their family dinner last night. Qi Shuo is nearby watching them with interest. Lu Xiao replies that he had rehearsal. She says the club disbanded so… He says she should come see the show then. She then asks why he isn’t answering her messages, to which he replies that it’s inconvenient for him to check his phone during experiments. She then says that someone’s been following her and she’s worried about it being that same guy. He tells her then she should report it to the school or call the police, and he leaves her there.

Qi Yue gets advice from her roommates about kissing. Ouyang Ling tells her that there are five key elements to follow.

  1. You must choose a dark and windy night, because when the temperature goes down our feelings will get more intense.
  2. Ask him to go to a place where no one is around so that his body and emotions can both relax.
  3. Further physical contact. At this moment, your gestures should be so light and your movements should be gentle.
  4. When you do all these movements, praise his eyebrows, eyes, and nose successively.

Ouyang Ling suddenly stops talking and Qi Yue asks what about the fifth one. Ouyang Ling sets down a can of beer in front of her and says “Drink some alcohol and kiss him. That’s it!” She asks why she has to make it so complicated. Qi Yue vows that today’s the day that it’ll happen.

Qi Shuo is worried about Yu Fei being the biggest obstacle between Qi Yue and Lu Xiao. He’s going to start following her, and observe her.

Lu Xiao is outside the girls’ dorm building and looks at the message from Qi Yue saying that they should go for a walk and to meet at the pavilion. As he smiles at this, Yu Fei suddenly runs up to hug him from behind. He frowns in annoyance, removes her arms, but he looks around and tells her that there’s no one there. He then says to stop using this excuse. She continues saying she’s quite afraid and that she heard footsteps.

From a distance, Qi Yue spots him and starts walking up towards him. But Yu Fei sees her first, and she quickly tells Lu Xiao that she likes him and then leans over as if to kiss him. At least, it looks that way from Qi Yue’s perspective/angle. She looks hurt by this so she just averts her face and walks in the opposite direction – away from them. Annoyed, Lu Xiao asks Yu Fei what she’s doing. She replies that there’s a hair on his shoulder. He says thanks but he can take care of it himself and brushes a hand on his shoulder. He says if someone is really stalking her, then he’ll watch her go inside the dorm and ensure her safety. He then gestures at the doors behind him. She slowly trudges toward the building as he waits.

Now Qi Yue is quite drunk and asks Qi Shuo if he knows what she just saw. He tells her to not go back to the dorm but to go home tonight. She says she doesn’t have a home. And her Lu Xiao kissed another girl in broad daylight! He tells her that she must be mistaken. She starts cursing at Lu Xiao but then puts her face down on the table. So Qi Shuo is forced to piggyback her back home. She starts whining that she’s failed at everything. He disagrees, and she wonders why Lu Xiao doesn’t like her - is she a lousy girl? He tells her to not let anyone judge her through anything, except herself. Only when she lives a good life, will others think highly for her. She keeps slipping down and so he keeps having to swing her back up into place and finally – it happens – she vomits over his shoulder and then passes out. Qi Shuo drops her off at home and mutters she drank so much when she can’t even drink. As he finally gets her tucked into bed, she mutters that her son is the best. She continues saying that men are all bad but her son is the best. Qi Shuo looks bothered by this.

Qi Yue will no longer reply to Lu Xiao’s messages, nor will she talk to him as her roommates surround her and force him to keep his distance. When he tries to join them at the canteen, he’s more or less told to keep away. So Lu Xiao goes to see Qi Shuo to ask what’s going on with Qi Yue, who gives terse non-answers. When Lu Xiao asks about some formula, Qi Shuo says he’s illiterate. Lu Xiao finally asks him what’s really going on with Qi Yue. Qi Shuo says it’s not a good thing to offend Qi Yue. Lu Xiao says that he thinks that Qi Yue has misunderstood him but she won’t tell him, so he’s hoping that he can. Qi Shuo asks if he really doesn’t know or if he’s playing dumb. He then pulls out his phone and shows him the picture he took of Yu Fei kissing him. Now Lu Xiao looks quite worried and bolts right out of there.

Epilogue: When will my Romeo fully understand it?

Lu Xiao returns to his room and one of his roommates asks the other to look at his eye as something is stuck in it. The other roommate gently touches the eye to look at it. Lu Xiao asks what one does when someone has something in their eye. The roommates tell him it depends on if it’s a guy or girl. Lu Xiao asks if there’s a difference. His roommates’ answer: If a guy asks, then ignore it. If a girl asks, it means asking for a kiss indirectly. Lu Xiao becomes nervous and confused by this. Ultimately, he just sits down and focuses on reading his book.

[Ep12] My Girlfriend

Lu Xiao follows Qi Yue to class and then has a note passed to her. But she doesn’t want to talk to him. He tells her that he knows that she’s seen something but it’s not true and he wants to explain. He further says that he doesn’t lie, and will never lie to her. So she allows him to explain. He says that he’s promised her mother and grandmother that he would protect Yu Fei in college. She had told him that someone was following her and asked for his help. She asks if her mother allows him to kiss her, too. He says there was no kiss as she’d told him that he had a hair on his shirt. She chides him for believing that. So he walks up and stops very close to her face then stares at it. She finally asks what he is doing. He says that she’s blushing which makes her touch her face and then turn away from him. She denies this. He points out that she believed it just now. Now Yu Fei interrupts them and thanks him for that evening. He tells her if someone follows her again, just call the police. He then looks back at Qi Yue and says, “Because I have someone more important to protect.” Qi Yue doesn’t say anything but she's walking away now. He chases after her and says that today’s her birthday and he’s prepared a gift for her. She’s still unhappy with him.

So she goes to the gym with Qi Shuo, who asks why she’s still so angry after Lu Xiao’s explanation. She wonders if he’s really that dumb or pretending to be. Qi Shuo says that they love each other, and there’s an interloper, but she should make it clear with Lu Xiao at her birthday party tonight. She emphatically says that she won’t invite him.

At the restaurant, Qi Yue celebrates her birthday with her roommates, Qi Shuo and Shu Ling. Jia Jia (who isn’t always smart) mentions that someone’s missing – Lu Xiao. Ding Fei purposely spills something on her and drags her outside to tell her to not mention Lu Xiao’s name tonight. Jia Jia agrees but then she says Lu Xiao – because he just showed up right behind Ding Fei. They ask what he’s doing here and he says that he’s waiting for Qi Yue even though she’s still angry. Good boy, with Qi Shuo’s guidance. Although, I must say, she’s being quite bratty here.

Inside, Qi Yue continues drinking, as does Qi Shuo. She then whines loudly to ask why Lu Xiao isn’t here for her birthday. She then wanders outside and she’s so drunk that she practically falls into Lu Xiao’s arms. He lovingly chides her for drinking so much. She pokes at his face and says that he looks like Lu Xiao. He smiles at this and helps her walk out of the restaurant. The roommates say goodbye with these prepared responses: The dorms are closed. They’ve asked for leave for her. Don’t come back. lol Lu Xiao continues gently guiding her away. Meanwhile, Shu Ling is left dealing with a very drunk Qi Shuo. When he sees Zhao Yang, who is with a girl, he gets angry and the two exchange insults. Zhao Yang is trying to provoke him into hitting him. Shu Ling is smart enough to drag Qi Shuo away to avoid any further escalation of the situation.

Elsewhere, Lu Xiao is dealing with a drunk Qi Yue who needs to use the bathroom. He lets her go inside and then lists off how bad alcohol is for one’s body. Then he says next time, he’ll be right next to her and he won’t let her drink so much. Inside the bathroom, she goes silent so he announces that he’s coming in. He finds her just squatting by the toilet bowl. When he asks what’s going on, she says that she can’t vomit. So he helps her up and says it’s okay. She asks how is it okay, and what’s their relationship? He replies that their relationship is up to her as he looks at her. He then leans down and kisses her. (~15:00, Their first real kiss!)

The next day, Qi Yue goes to the doctor for her massive headache. (Who sees a doctor for a simple hangover? Rich people? lol) Qi Shuo is also there because of his busted knee. When he sees Qi Yue, he secretly lets Lu Xiao know. So Lu Xiao shows up to take care of her. At home, Lu Xiao gives her a birthday present. It’s a ring box so she wonders if it’s a ring. He shakes his head as she opens the box to reveal a small dark grey cube. She asks what it is and he says it’s carbon. She’s confused. He says that her birthday is on the 6th, and the carbon is the 6th element on the periodic table. She asks what she can do with a piece of carbon. He says that after being crystallized under high temperature and high pressure, carbon becomes diamond. Fine, he’s sold me on this carbon bit. Ha. Just not the diamond itself. :P I guess they couldn't use the 7th element - nitrogen. lol He then says that he’s given her his answer so now he’s waiting for hers. She says he’s such a smart guy, what kind of answer could he be waiting for from her. He looks away before telling her to eat some porridge and then leaves for his class. They’re both knuckleheads.

Qi Shuo returns home and asks what happened. She says that Lu Xiao keeps asking for her answer but she’s not sure what answer he wants. Seriously?! *facepalm* What she really wants is for him to confess his love for her.

So they go to the aquarium and she hints at him to confess to her but he refutes it as silly. Yu Fei and Zhao Yang are having drinks at a bar when Lu Xiao and Qi Yue walk in. Lu Xiao cutely tries to cover up her bare legs (in a very short skirt) with his jacket as they’re walking in. She makes him sit down as she goes to use the bathroom.

In the bathroom, Zhao Yang corners her, grabs her and then angrily tries to kiss her. She attempts to fight him off but to no avail. So she starts screaming but he won’t let go. Suddenly, Lu Xiao comes running in and pulls him off of her and then punches him. Lu Xiao stands over him and yells at him: “I’m warning you. Stay away from my girlfriend!!” The two then leave. Is this enough of a confession?!?

Epilogue: You may not believe this. He learned his love skills online.

Lu Xiao has been doing online research on how to confess to a girl. Cute nerd.

[Ep13How He Makes It Snow in the South

It’s the day of their show and there’s only four people in the audience – Qi Yue’s roommates and Qi Shuo. Lu Xiao suggests that they record the show with their phones. When they start, Lu Xiao calls her by her actual name. (I’m glad they did not make us watch this play. Eep.)

After a conversation with Qi Shuo, complete with scientific metaphors/visual aids, Lu Xiao finally understands that he needs to confess to Qi Yue. Glad he understands because I don’t! Qi Shuo suggests he take her to a haunted house as she gets quite scared. It turns out that she isn’t even in the slightest way, as she even gives the actors tips on how to properly scare people. Then they go see a movie where his video would play with the excuse of equipment failure, but then the equipment actually breaks down and he leaves to help them repair it. The boy cannot stay on task. lol So Qi Yue leaves him there, as now she’s very annoyed.

Later, Lu Xiao drops by the dorm, to confess to her with fake snow on the ground, with Qi Shuo’s help. He’s written her a message in the snow. Unfortunately, all she can see of the text is “Do it.” She leaves upset. Apparently, it had originally said, “Will you be my girlfriend?” But a quarreling couple had walked through it and ruined it. She tells Qi Shuo that she’s going to start a cold war with Lu Xiao.

It’s winter break but Qi Shuo won’t let her slack off as she needs to study and continue pursuing Lu Xiao. When he goes to wake her, she has put a decoy dummy in her bed. She’s actually already in the living room eating snacks and watching TV. Later, he makes them food but she’s too busy playing a game on her phone. The role reversal here. XD In order to get her to shape up, he pretends there’s a knock on the door, opens the door and says that it’s Lu Xiao. So she quickly runs to change out of her pajamas and into a nice girly outfit. However, when she finds out that he lied, she whines about why Lu Xiao still hasn’t come by to see her.

Later that evening, Qi Shuo insists that she go with him to take out the trash. He suddenly ditches her even as she’s calling his name. He doesn’t reappear but then a projector comes on and it’s footage of her and Lu Xiao during that awful play. It starts [fake] snowing, as Lu Xiao says he can’t control the weather but he can make it snow for her. She asks why he’s here.

Lu Xiao is holding a large card with ℼσ on it. He says that she’s the pi bond and he’s the sigma bond. Many people say it’s impossible between them but he believes there’s hyperconjugation in this world. [Sigma and pi bonds are types of covalent bonds that differ in the overlapping of atomic orbitals. Covalent bonds are formed by the overlapping of atomic orbitals. Sigma bonds are a result of the head-to-head overlapping of atomic orbitals whereas pi bonds are formed by the lateral overlap of two atomic orbitals.] They are too small in this universe, just like dust on the whiteboard as he reveals a blank card. They’re invisible to the naked eye. They’re insignificant but  they can still be together. He won’t let their relationship be like Lenz’s law as he reveals a card with a very complex diagram on it. [An induced electric current flows in a direction such that the current opposes the change that induced it.] Since she’s come into his heart, he won’t let her leave. She finally says that although she doesn’t quite understand his words – and so he reveals the final card: Qi Yue, will you be my girlfriend? She smiles and says she understands this one. He asks her the same questions and she says yes. He throws away the sign to kiss her. A happily tearful Qi Shuo watches nearby, and waits for a moment longer before he leaves to give them privacy. (~20:50, Subs faltered a bit here, and I had to do research on chemistry. I almost wanted to jump ship! XD!!)

Qi Shuo returns home alone and throws out his back. He tries to put a patch on his back and ends up getting stuck laying on the kitchen table. Uh oh. (Been there, oof.) He calls Qi Yue and then hears her phone ringing just as she’s walking in. He asks why she’s here instead of being with Lu Xiao. She says they’re socially dead. She helps him stand up and he asks for her to elaborate.

She has spent some time trying to do cute couple-y things with Lu Xiao. When she feeds him ice cream, he just eats the ice without trying to start a kiss or anything. When they go to a ceramics class, she tries to make it romantic, just like the nearby couple, by having them share a pottery wheel. But it backfires with wet clay flying everywhere. Qi Shuo is laughing heartily at this interspersed with sounds of pain as it’s hurting his back to laugh. He finally stops laughing and tells her that dating is two people doing boring things together. She replies that he’s always asking for an answer on what to do next. She’s quite annoyed with this. Qi Shuo says that he respects her so she should tell him what she really wants to do, so he can fully understand her. Dating is two people sharing important things with each other. He later writes in his notebook: Are things getting better or worse???

Epilogue: I always remember that your wish is to see the snow.

During rehearsal, Qi Yue had gotten distracted and thought about how she’d never seen snow before. She had told him about a scene in the movie, “Love Actually,” when the guy confessed to the girl in the snow, with a lot of cards. She says that’s her dream. He says matter-of-factly that her wish is to see snow, and then he makes snow with a fan and fluffy cotton pieces. Ah, his confession attempts make more sense now. [That scene is cute on its own, but the reality is that one of them is not single!]

[Ep14When Are We Having A Son?

At home, Lu Xiao’s father tells him that he was just like him and giddy at the mention of “physics”. Then he tells him that doing research is like sitting on a cold bench. Whenever it is, don’t let anything distract him. Lu Xiao says yes, and then he suddenly hears Qi Yue calling his name. He gets up immediately and runs out to the balcony to ask if she’s here because something’s happened. She replies that she has something to say. He tells her to go ahead. She asks when they will have a son. Now Lu Xiao’s father comes out and says that he couldn’t understand what she said. She says that he has a great son and then quickly runs away. Dad then decides to tell him about gene mapping.

The next day, Lu Xiao asks what she meant last night. She explains that Qi Shuo told her to tell him what she wanted to do and important things to him so he’d understand her. So what are his thoughts? He’s surprised and says that they haven’t even graduated yet. And so she continues badgering him with this pressing question via text messaging. Eventually, he says, he’s ready. Ou?

So Qi Shuo ends up joining them on their getaway trip. (~8:00, Lu Xiao’s face… XD) When Lu Xiao asks why he’s here, Qi Yue replies that they should get used to having a son, so just think of him as one. Later, Lu Xiao asks Qi Shuo if he’s really Qi Yue’s cousin. Qi Shuo replies with his own question: if he’ll be marrying her. Lu Xiao asks if he knows Stephen Hawking’s most popular quote. Qi Shuo says “the universe has no boundaries.” Lu Xiao shakes his head and says, “If you are lucky enough to find love, remember it is rare and don’t throw it away.”

Our lovebirds return to school while Qi Shuo goes to the hospital to see a dermatologist. Shu Ling is awkward around him as she still harbors a crush on him. After his visit, he discovers her notebook in his possession and finds his name written over and over inside. She then messages Qi Shuo that she has something to say to him. When Qi Yue finds out who Shu Ling has been lovelorn over, she is horrified and tells her that that’s impossible.

Later Qi Yue asks Qi Shuo if he’s given any romantic indication to Shu Ling. He asks if she’s crazy as she’s her best friend and his godmother. But then he asks if it’s because he does care for her and takes care of her.

Qi Yue is now offering love classes to the girls at school. The 3rd-ranked-student (high school) has successfully started dating the guy she likes with her tips – but she’s also been swindled out of her money. It’s Zhao Yang. Of course it is.

Epilogue: That night at the hotel with each guy sleeping on the floor next to her bed, Qi Yue takes a photo of each of them plus a selfie of herself, and then saves it as her phone background with the following text: Love each other and get rid of bad people.

[Ep15] The Lies of Sisyphus

Qi Yue waits for Zhao Yang at his mother’s and says that he borrowed 3,000 yuan money from her. She also says her name is Yang Zi Yun (the girl who got swindled). Then Yu Fei shows up and the two pretend to sob in front of his mother. Now, his mother wonders why he’d borrowed money from a girl and she’s quite upset about what he’s done.. After all of the fake crying, he finally says he’ll transfer the money to her. Bwahaha, they make a formidable team.

Shu Ling decides to live a life without regrets. However when Qi Shuo shows up, he tries to do things to annoy her but it only makes him more endearing and/or impressive to her. Later he tries to act like a chauvinist jerk who believes that women shouldn’t work, should stay at home and do what they do best - take care of their husband and children. (He makes himself cringe. lol) She happily says that she hopes that one day when she returns home someone other than Tuan Tuan is waiting for her. She then says that she likes – and he immediately cuts her off to say that she can’t like him and walks away. She’s so hurt by this. And he’s thinking that he’s sorry to his Aunt Shu Ling. :( I hurt for both of them.

Zhao Yang is waiting outside the girls’ dorm for Qi Yue and Lu Xiao tells him to leave her alone. Zhao Yang tells him to control his girlfriend. However, when Lu Xiao pulls out his phone to call the police regarding his fraudulent acts, Zhao Yang asks what he’s doing. Meanwhile, students walking by are now giving Zhao Yang the stink eye. The jerk finally leaves, just as Qi Yue arrives. Lu Xiao hands her clay figurines he’s made of himself and her. For some reason, hers is much bigger than his. She asks why he’s giving her these. He says because she wished that all her family members could always be together, and they will have more figurines in the future.

Qi Shuo visits with Zhao Yang’s mother, and they’re interrupted by Zhao Yang who asks to speak to him outside. He asks him what he’s doing here and Qi Shuo says that his mother doesn’t know what kind of person he really is at school (no scholarship as he claims, and not exactly a decent human being.) Zhao Yang grabs him by the collar and asks him what he told his mother. Qi Shuo says, so there is something he’s afraid of. Zhao Yang gets angry and tells him to never visit his mother again. Qi Shuo says he can promise him that but he has to promise to leave Qi Yue alone. Zhao Yang promises him that he would so long as he never speaks about what happened today.

Qi Yue’s father comes to see her at school, so the three share a meal… and there’s alcohol involved. But Lu Xiao can’t handle liquor so he doesn’t drink. During this meal, Dad puts on sunglasses after he’s had his drinks. Qi Yue is clueless as to why he’s doing this and when she asks, Dad tells her that when men are talking, women should shut up. Ick. He then asks Lu Xiao if he’s Qi Yue’s classmate. After he says yes, Dad tells him to eat. Lu Xiao, efficient as ever, tells her father that he’s 188cm tall, the same age as Qi Yue, a physics major, his father is a teacher and then provides his home address. When Qi Yue asks what he’s doing, he says that’s the plot in dramas: when a man first meets his girlfriend’s parents, he needs to talk about his background himself. (lol, This is not the first time the show has poked fun at “drama” tropes, events, scriptwriters, etc.) She sighs and tells him that that’s someone else’s father. Dad tells him to not  say anything and instead raises his shot glass of baijiu and urges him to drink. Qi Yue now says, this is her father. Dad continues saying that this meal is his way of thanking him for taking care of Qi Yue at school. He then asks if they’re graduating soon. Qi Yue reminds him that she’s only a sophomore. Dad says he’s just forgotten. She then asks if he knows what her major is, and he says it’s physics. Qi Yue wants to give a snarky reply but Lu Xiao reaches over and grabs her hand, and he says that he and Qi Shuo will take good care of Qi Yue. Dad isn’t sure who Qi Shuo is. Uh oh. Qi Yue tries to distract either one of them but it’s too late. Lu Xiao answers that that’s her cousin. Dad laughs and asks if she’s forgotten the name of her two cousins. When Lu Xiao asks more questions, Qi Yue takes matters into her own hands – she takes a shot of baijiu and promptly passes out.

The next day, at the mall, Lu Xiao tells Qi Shuo that he met Qi Yue’s father yesterday. Qi Shuo cheerfully says that’s a good thing and then asks how his uncle is. Lu Xiao doesn’t say anything and just looks at him. Qi Yue calls both of them over, to lay down on a mattress with her, and then she holds hands with both of them. Qi Yue tells Lu Xiao that they’ll have their own house in the future. Lu Xiao asks if it’s actually their house, and she says of course. She asks what he is thinking, and he replies that he thought there was someone else. She says there will be someone else, so they can have a room for the baby as their son grows up and studies in it. Qi Shuo looks uncomfortable and tries to leave them to this conversation but she pulls him back down and links his hand to Lu Xiao’s. But then she suddenly gets up to get some ice cream. Qi Shuo tries to follow her but Lu Xiao asks him if he’s really Qi Yue’s cousin. A nervous Qi Shuo says, yes, of course. Lu Xiao doesn’t seem happy with this answer.

So Qi Shuo mentions how his uncle is showing early signs of Alzheimer’s disease. Lu Xiao says that he’s still fairly young for that. Qi Shuo asks if he forgot what grade Qi Yue is in. Lu Xiao remembers that as being true. Qi Shuo then says Qi Yue doesn’t know about her father, so it should be kept a secret from her. Lu Xiao says it’s his fault for being so nervous and notes that consuming alcohol can lead to brain damage ergo increases the chances of having Alzheimer’s. Qi Shuo asks for him to take care of her, which Lu Xiao agrees to. When she returns with the ice cream, Lu Xiao tells her quite loudly that he’ll take care of her. Qi Shuo looks at his non-existent watch, and while pointing at his empty wrist, he says that it’s late as he needs to go do something. So he takes his ice cream and leaves. Meanwhile, Lu Xiao seriously says wherever she wants to go, he’ll go with her. She says that there’s no spoon, and he quickly says he’ll get it and leaves to do just that. xD He’s so cute in this mode. (~26:20) She wonders what’s going on.

Shu Ling is at the market and looking at all the snacks. She thinks about Qi Shuo and then gets upset and starts shoving a bunch of chips and noodles into her basket. When she goes to pay, Qi Shuo shows up as he’s following her. When he’s bagging her items, he notices all the unhealthy stuff but he doesn’t say anything. She’s unable to pay as her phone is dead, so she just leaves without. Qi Shuo quickly pays for her stuff and then quietly follows her home. She finally tells him to stop following her. He says that the road is dark and unsafe. She says whether the road is dark or not, she has to walk alone either way. She then walks away into the dark alley. Qi Shuo stops and thinks “Aunt Shu Ling. I didn’t expect this would happen after I came back. I’m sorry. You can’t like me.” He turns around and walks home with the groceries.

When he gets home, Qi Yue is crying… but it only turns out to be because the FL and ML of a show are finally married after 10 seasons. (She’s watching The Big Bang Theory. lol! A show with nerdy boys and girls, except for the FL. Sound familiar?) She asks him if he thinks Lu Xiao will propose to her. He replies that they just started dating. She says the earlier he proposes, the earlier they’ll get married and then give birth to a son. He stares at her sadly for a second before he finally gives her a smile. But his eyes have some pain in them.

When Qi Yue leaves to take a bath, Qi Shuo looks at a video of his mother preparing a meal for him to take on a school trip.

Epilogue: Didn’t I make a wish? I wished all of my family members could be together.

After Qi Yue receives the figurines from Lu Xiao, she shows them to Ouyang Ling. When she sees one of Ouyang Ling’s figurines, she picks it up and asks her if it looks like Qi Shuo. Her roommate says no, this is her favorite figurine, Deadpool. The two start fighting over it, and Jia Jia walks in and breaks it up. However, she knocks down Qi Yue’s figurines onto the floor and then steps on them. She has now totally flattened Lu Xiao. Qi Yue angrily asks her to return Lu Xiao to her. xD

[Ep16Everyone is Lonely

Lu Xiao brings by two portions of tofu pudding, one without peanuts for Qi Yue and the other for Qi Shuo. However, Qi Shuo has decided to move out today. So instead of doing stuff on Lu Xiao’s date list, they’re now looking for a place for Qi Shuo. Lu Xiao finds it odd that he’s suddenly moving out.

Qi Yue is driving the poor realtor crazy with her demands for Qi Shuo’s place. They’re now looking at their 17th place and it’s shabby but centrally located. It’s also close to the hospital, so Qi Shuo wants it because Shuo Ling walks through the nearby alleyway.

Qi Yue’s dad visits Qi Yue but she’s not at home, and finds  Lu Xiao waiting outside her place. Dad has the door code and invites him inside. Lu Xiao introduces himself as her friend, and her father says that he’s her boyfriend. Lu Xiao is worried that he doesn’t remember him but Dad remembers everything about him. When Dad asks why he’s acting so weird, Lu Xiao says that they said he has Alzheimer’s so… Dad asks who is “they”. Lu Xiao says it’s her and Qi Shuo. Dad asks who that is, and Lu Xiao says it’s her cousin…and at the same time, Dad says he’s her tutor. Dad goes outside to call her. She ignores the call, even as she can see her father as she’s hiding behind a nearby tree. She then runs away to evade him.

Back in the apartment, Lu Xiao is going over past conversations with Qi Shuo. When she returns, he asks if she was at Qi Shuo’s. She says yes as she was worried about him living by himself but she didn’t want to make him worry. He replies why he should be worried about her being at her cousin’s. She admits to lying about her father having Alzheimer’s as she didn’t want him to know how cold-hearted her father is. Lu Xiao tells her that her father isn’t cold-hearted as he cares about her and remembers everything about her including her tutor Qi Shuo. She tries to deny this. But he asks why she’s lying about who Qi Shuo is. She repeats that he’s her cousin. He says if he’s really her cousin why wouldn’t her father know him. He continues saying that he doesn’t know her at all. Trust is the basis for two people to be together. He’s never doubted her but she doesn’t seem to believe in him. She says that she trusts him. He gets up to leave and asks if she’s conspired to lie to him from the beginning. She doesn’t say anything, so she grabs onto him and says that Qi Shuo is their son. He asks what she is talking about. She explains that he came from the future, 30 years into the future.

Qi Shuo continues watching Shu Ling walk home, and this evening Dr. Han joins her on this walk down the dark alley.

Lu Xiao is looking at the DNA test results and trying to rationalize what she’s just told him. He says that time travel can only send people to someone’s future, but not going back in time. And all of this is just a fantasy experiment. Qi Yue says that this is exactly the reality. Lu Xiao wants to know why he came back to do this. She says that he told her to pursue him to change her fate. So he asks if she pursued him just because of this. She says yes and no – it started like that but her love for him isn’t based on others. He tells her that he doesn’t understand her purpose but he can’t accept what she’s told him. Lu Xiao leaves with the DNA test results.

Lu Xiao goes over all the times Qi Shuo has mentioned time travel to him, and how many times Qi Yue has mentioned having a future son. He can’t sleep so he goes to speak to his professor about this. He wants to know if it’s possible to travel back in time. The professor says that there’s a group of elite scientists studying this. The professor asks why he wants to know. Lu Xiao says he wonders if maybe in 30 years, humans can really time travel – not only going to the future but into the past to change fate. The professor says this is great as this sort of confidence is needed in the scientific research field.

Qi Shuo continues following Shu Ling from a distance but then he sees Zhao Yang following her. Qi Yue sees Qi Shuo and goes to follow him but he’s too intent on seeing what’s going on with Shu Ling and Zhao Yang to even notice Qi Yue. When he gets inside the hospital, he hears that a nurse was stabbed by a student. So he runs inside and finds Zhao Yang and beats him up… just as Shu Ling walks by with a cart. Now the three are in an office that has a huge sign saying “Don’t Be Angry” lol with Shu Ling’s supervisor. Qi Shuo apologizes and then offers to pay for his medical expenses. Zhao Yang agrees to let this go today and tells her to get a handle on him.

Outside, Lu Xiao tells Qi Yue that he’s confirmed the DNA results with her being Qi Shuo’s mother. He then wonders why Qi Shuo fights with Zhao Yang, if he doesn’t like him. Qi Shuo walks up to them and asks if there’s some party at the hospital today as everyone’s here. Qi Yue tells him that Lu Xiao knows everything. Lu Xiao then invites him over for a movie if he has time and then leaves the two alone. Qi Shuo asks if he knows everything – including the fact that he’s her son from 30 years into the future. She says yes. He wonders why Lu Xiao is so calm. She says this may be the style of a mature man.
Now the three are wearing face masks and trying to decide what to watch. Of course, Qi Shuo picks the same movie as Qi Yue. Lu Xiao is outnumbered. They’re watching the movie as Lu Xiao has refused to eat popcorn as he citedthe unhealthy aspects of that food. And our mom-and-son team enjoy their popcorn in the same fashion. Wonder how many takes it took to get them to sync up for that popcorn catch. lol The two even cry the same way. They’re so involved in their conversation that they don’t even notice when Lu Xiao gets up, walks in front of them and leaves the room. HA!

Later, when they go to donate blood, Qi Shuo is very uncomfortable with this. When he tries to leave for the science lab, Lu Xiao immediately says he’ll go with him. Then Qi Shuo mentions he has stomach pains and needs to use the restroom, and Lu Xiao offers to go with him, so they can donate blood when they return. Qi Yue realizes that he still doesn’t believe it. She says she’s blood type O and he’s blood type AB and Qi Shuo is… 2B. (He should be type A or B…) When Qi Yue suggests that they get a blood test, both of them adamantly say that they’re not going. Qi Shuo looks quite worried though.

Later Qi Yue gripes to Qi Shuo about Lu Xiao still not believing her, which proves he doesn’t want to be with her. Qi Shuo knows that Lu Xiao has ways to verify the feasibility of time travel. She asks why he doesn’t believe this then. He says because he also has emotions apart from the theories, so he can’t just believe it immediately. Qi Yue says that she’ll text him an apology, and Qi Shuo tells her to not as he knows him well as he’s his son.

Qi Shuo visits Lu Xiao at the lab, who is depressed and worried.
At the bus stop, Qi Shuo realizes that it won’t take Lu Xiao to find out the truth so he better tell him everything. He’s interrupted by Shu Ling who is making her way there. He hides from her and ends up listening to what she’s playing on her phone: recordings of him saying he’s thrown out her noodles, asking if she’s taken her vitamins, and how the dog has peed inside again. Poor Shu Ling is in tears. Here are our star-crossed lovers. :|

Epilogue: If I can’t walk you home, no street lamps should be broken.

Qi Shuo had asked about the one streetlight that’s out in the alleyway where Shu Ling walks every night. After he pulls out his phone and threatens to broadcast this neglect, they finally turn on the streetlight with the intent of keeping it on.

[Ep17Life is Full of Twists

Lu Xiao recalls the file that was sent to him before and struggles to remember its password. (Ep2.) He uses Qi Yue’s birthday and name for the third attempt and the file finally opens. It’s from Lu Xiao in the future, as Qi Shuo’s master, who warns him to stop Qi Shuo from changing the past.

A drunk Qi Shuo shows up to speak to Lu Xiao. Lu Xiao recognizes that Qi Shuo resembles Qi Yue and they even share some behavior patterns. He wants to know why he told Qi Yue to not like Zhao Yang. Qi Shuo hands him a beer and waits until he takes a sip before he shows him a video on his phone. It’s Qi Yue in the future arguing with Qi Shuo’s father, Zhao Yang. Qi Shuo asks if he’s interested to know about his future. Lu Xiao nods. He says that he’ll be a famous professor in a research institute. He’ll also ask Qi Shuo to study the time-travel project with him. Together, they’ll create the time machine, but what’s most important is that he takes care of Qi Shuo and Qi Yue. Lu Xiao is upset that he’s lied to Qi Yue this whole time, and that it’ll change his own fate. Qi Shuo says he read in a book “that all the love in this world is for reunion. But the love between children and parents is for separation.” Later when Qi Yue calls, Lu Xiao keeps up the lie by saying that he believes Qi Shuo is their future son and they’re destined lovers.

Qi Shuo discovers that Zhao Yang has a tough home life. His father gambles and destroys the family home, while Zhao Yang tries to be a filial son to his battered and resigned mother.

Later Lu Xiao is very interested in joining the time travel program but his professor thinks he should graduate first. Lu Xiao is very fixated on keeping Qi Shuo’s existence in the future. And so the three spend the day together as a family. They later have a family photo taken together as a studio. Lu Xiao thinks this is all he can do for her and Qi Shuo, while Qi Shuo thinks, “Mom. In the family photo, there’s no empty seat next to you.” Aww. Afterwards, she gripes about her face looking so big in the photo. lol At home, Qi Shuo is looking at their photo from today, and comparing it to the one with only his mother and him as his father had never bothered to show up to any of the photo sessions.

Epilogue: Life can’t be perfect. Either Side A or B.

Shu Ling gets caught in between Qi Shuo and Dr. Han.

[Ep18Reality is Always Out of Control

While the trio are eating in the canteen, everyone suddenly leaves en masse for the basketball game. Qi Shuo brings his bowl of noodles to the game. XD Priorities! I wonder if this is an ad lib. Qi Yue sees Zhao Yang on the court and turns to leave but Lu Xiao coaxes her to stay as the competition is between their school and another school. She’s not keen on this and only stays for a moment before walking away. AFterwards, Qi Shuo gives Zhao Yang a bankcard with funds to move his mother to a nice place, away from harm and violence. Zhao Yang doesn’t accept but Qi Shuo still leaves it for him. Lu Xiao has a surprise for Qi Yue, it’s their family photo in traditional outfits hanging on display at the photo shop. She hugs him and says that she hopes that it’ll stay up there for 10 years, 20 years, and 30 years with the hopes that the future Qi Shuo will see it, too. He then takes photos of her with it. Qi Shuo who is standing across the street watches this and then takes photos of them.

Now our lovebirds are working hard to graduate, and soon enough that day is around the corner. And Lu Xiao has finally managed to get himself into the time travel research program. After the graduation ceremony, Lu Xiao gives the following speech in front of everyone:

There is someone important to me who told me this. He said, all the love in this world is for reunion at Qingdao University. I learned two important things called love and creation. These four years, I not only studied physics, it seems that I know a little bit of philosophy. Bergson once said “real time is not objective but people’s subjective experience.” I didn’t know it before as I was a child who loved to spend time accurately planning every minute and every second. But suddenly, an inexplicable person broke into my life. She always messes up all my plans. Strangely, I’m very happy. Slowly, I am beginning to understand the meaning of this sentence. I used to watch a movie with her, two hours is five minutes, and missing her for one day is one year. Today is our last day in Qingdao. I want to take a few minutes of your time to create a little thing about love.

He then steps down from the stairs, says her name, and gets down on one bended knee. He opens a white ring box and asks her if she’s willing to be his destiny. Everyone starts cheering and she gasps in shock. Everyone encourages her to say yes and she cries happy tears as she says yes and extends her hand. He places the ring on her finger and Qi Shuo looks happy and sad at the same time as he’s recording this. Our newly engaged couple hug and the crowd chants for them to kiss. And so they share a kiss. Qi Shuo cries happy tears as he watches on.

Qi Shuo has returned to live with Qi Yue. When she looks at the photos, she wonders why he’s missing from all the photos. He points out that he’s the one behind the camera. She’s sad that he isn’t in these photos but perks up when she thinks about the wedding photos and other opportunities awaiting. When she gets up to use the restroom, Lu Xiao appears with the wedding invitations. Qi Shuo looks at the invitations and Lu Xiao says it’s set for October 17th. Qi Shuo asks why it’s the 17th. Lu Xiao says because he wants to use this way to let her remember this way.

Qi Shuo then talks to him in a hushed tone, that he was worried about him knowing the truth and changing his mind. Lu Xiao says he did think that way, but then he realized it was selfish. Since the direction of the story has already been changed, the people should just keep going in this direction. He tells Qi Shuo to not have any more regrets just as Qi Yue returns. She asks what they’re talking about behind her back. Qi Shuo says it’s about the bachelor party and grabs two invitations on his way out.

Qi Shuo goes to see Dr. Han at the hospital where Shu Ling works. But he finds out that she quit her job. Qi Shuo assumes that he’s her boyfriend but finds out that Shu Ling actually rejected him. Qi Shuo leaves to find her at her place. He knows she’s inside but she won’t answer the door. He explains that Qi Yue’s getting married and as her best friend, she should witness this happy moment. He then slides the wedding invitation under her door. He says that he’s leaving… and she then shows up behind him to ask where he’s going.

She lets him inside and asks what he wants to drink. He says a coke but when she opens the fridge, it’s filled with fresh produce and fruit juice. He then takes a look around to sees that her place is nice and tidy. She’s also made it into medical school. He then gives her the wedding invitation, and then it gets awkward when he blurts out that he knows that she likes him.

Qi Yue and Lu Xiao go to see her father and tell him that they’re getting married. He asks for the date and then tells them to get into the car and takes them to a hot pot dinner. And a bowl of tofu pudding arrives, without peanuts. Dad then asks for the date again and then he says he’ll be there. Afterwards, Qi Yue mentions his quote, “all the love in this world is for reunion.” Lu Xiao explains that he’s only said the first half of the sentence. The other half is “all the love in this world is for getting together. Only the love of parents and children is to separate from each other.” Qi Yue doesn’t understand so Lu Xiao tells her that “probably because they love each other, will hope even if the other party leaves you, will be happy, too. Qi Yue says that she wants to keep Qi Shuo by her side forever.

Zhao Yang moves his mother out of their home. Qi Shuo shows up and Zhao Yang gives him an IOU for the money he loaned him before, and he’d pay it off over time. Qi Shuo gives him the wedding invitation. Zhao Yang looks at and says that he’s not even friends with either one of them. Qi Shuo says he should just go as one of their classmates then. Zhao Yang nods and goes to leave. Qi Shuo stops him and then gives him a brief hug. Zhao Yang isn’t sure what to think but he allows it.

Epilogue: None of us want to have regrets, right?

Lu Xiao had spent some time convincing the owner of the photo shop to allow their photo to be displayed prominently in that window. The owner hadn’t been keen on it to begin with because they’re not actually a family. Lu Xiao offers him his ID card, bank card, etc. The owner finally relents and agrees to display it for one day only. Lu Xiao doesn’t want to have any regrets.

[Ep19Let’s Be Mother and Son Again in the Next Life

It’s two days before their wedding, and they’re getting their wedding photos taken at their high school. Elsewhere, Qi Shuo hangs out with Shu Ling. He knows that he can’t accept her love, and thinks that perhaps if they meet in another time and space, they can be together then. This boy. Qi Yue invites Shu Ling and Qi Shuo for the photos at the high school.

When they show up, Qi Yue immediately wants Qi Shuo in the photos, and so the three pose together. Look how cute our trio are. Suddnely Qi Shuo starts fading in and out, (like a broken TV screen) – and soon both he and Qi Yue each pass out one after the other.

At the hospital, Lu Xiao is told that Qi Yue is going to be transferred to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department. When she wakes up, her first words are to ask about where Qi Shuo is. Lu Xiao says that he’s okay as he just has heatstroke. Lu Xiao then shows her the lab result – she’s pregnant. Dr. Han tells Qi Shuo and Shu Ling that he's fine especially as the labwork doesn't show anything out of the ordinary. he’s fine. Qi Shuo is sporting a large wound on his arm though.

When Qi Yue shares the happy news with Shu Ling, the two dance around in joy. Qi Shuo looks heartbroken at this, and doesn’t say much. Qi Yue hugs him and says they’ll see each other soon again. He finally gives her a little smile. Afterwards, he drops by the photo shop and asks to buy the framed family portrait, which he later drops off at Qi Yue’s. And then he sobs as he reads Qi Yue’s diary filled with her thoughts and recollection on her life, time travel and her son.

Their very blue-themed wedding is here! The photo for their wedding was taken where they first met – in the Geography Garden where he had sprayed her with the hose. Cute! XD Look at her face! Qi Shuo informs the bridal couple that their fathers are drunk together so there’s no father to walk her down the aisle. She says that she has a Plan B – for him to walk her. And so he does and then hands her over to Lu Xiao. The two guys exchange a look of tacit understanding, and then our bridal couple walk forward to have their ceremony. Just as Qi Shuo with teary eyes watches the bride and groom kiss and claps, he starts to disappear. He says, “Mom, I can finally change your fate.” And then he's gone! T____T Noooo.不能接受!!

After the wedding, Qi Yue wonders where Qi Shuo is. He’s not answering his phone. She then runs around screaming his name, but she can’t find him anywhere. Lu Xiao finds his sobbing wife as she’s repeating over and over that she can’t find Qi Shuo. She then asks him if Qi Shuo told him something. Lu Xiao says that he asked him to give her this – and hands her Qi Shuo's diary to her. The first page reads: “Let’s be mother and son in our next life.” She sobs at this. T____T

Epilogue: You will never know what decisions your mother has made for you.

Qi Yue mentions that if she gets pregnant in January then she’ll give birth in November. And if she gets pregnant in February, then she’ll give birth in December, and so forth and so on. Lu Xiao asks what she’s doing. She replies that she is calculating the best time for Qi Shuo to be born. He tries to distract her by offering to take her to dinner. She continues talking about birth months and horoscopes. Lu Xiao tells her that not everything can be decided by her. She says if she can’t decide, then he can. But when he gives an answer, she says no, that’s not good. Bwahaha, why ask then. Pot, meet kettle. Moi. xD

[Ep20He Crossed Mountains and Seas The Chinese title for this series.

Young Qi Shuo talks about his mother. She is timid. She is afraid of rats. But she always competes with him for tofu pudding. She likes to put the peanuts she doesn’t like into his bowl. His mother always calls him a little brat. He continues his speech, but when she gets up to touch him, he vanishes into thin air.

Now Qi Yue wakes up crying from her dream and Qi Shuo in a white tux comforts her that he’s here now. She tearfully tells him that she had a nightmare that he was getting further away from him and then disappeared. Qi Shuo asks her where would he go, and today’s her wedding day. So she gets up and opens the door and walks out onto the beach. She then sees Qi Shuo walking into the ocean. She asks what he’s doing and he says, “Mom, I crossed mountains and seas. I did it!” She calls him a little brat and then screams at him to come back. He says, “OIn the next life, we must be a family again.” He then continues walking into the ocean and Qi Yue starts screaming at him to come back. Qi Shuo doesn’t turn back around and just keeps on walking. She then collapses onto the beach and sobs.

In real life, when Qi Yue wakes up, she’s in the hospital surrounded by Lu Xiao, her father, her father-in-law and Shu Ling. She sits up and her first question is about where Qi Shuo is. Her father says that she just scared him when she fainted at the wedding. She continues asking about Qi Shuo, and her father-in-law tells her that she’s pregnant and weak so she should get some rest. Qi Yue gets out of the bed and runs out of there to look for Qi Shuo.

Shu Ling is now sitting in the hallway sobbing as she remembers Qi Shuo being here. Dr. Han walks up and asks why she’s crying. She thanks him for taking care of her and then she walks away. She looks at the photo of herself and Qi Shuo and continues crying.

Lu Xiao tells Qi Yue that Qi Shuo hid the truth from her as he had made up his mind before he came here, he would do whatever it took to change her miserable life. He had done all of this for her happiness. She asks him what he thinks. He replies that he thinks this is why he came here and no one can change it. She doesn’t accept this truth and says it’s an interesting story, so please tell her where Qi Shuo is.

He says that he understands that it’s hard for her to accept this but he felt the same way before. She continues sobbing and asks where Qi Shuo is. He says that the direction of the story has been changed, so her fate has also been changed. There’s no going back. She asks what he means. He says he’s left… and disappeared. She cries and asks what he means by “disappeared”. He hugs her, as she cries that she was an incompetent mother, absent from his childhood so now he’s playing hide-and-seek with her. T_T

Lu Xiao tells his professor that he thinks the time traveler may just return to a parallel universe instead of the universe where he came. If that’s the case, when the time traveler returns to the past and changes the past, even if he makes a slightly different choice from the future, there will be a new parallel universe and the things in his original universe remain unchanged. So what he changed is only in their universe, as his original universe remains unchanged. In other words, even if he disappeared, he just disappeared in their universe. He still exists in his original universe. The professor asks who the time traveler is. Lu Xiao says that he needs to go tell his wife right now and quickly runs out of there.

At home, Qi Yue wakes up and calls for Qi Shuo but no one answers. She looks at her notes about Qi Shuo and then wonders if she needs a liar to change her fate. So she leaves the house in her uniform, but she’s without her phone. She goes to see Zhao Yang to say that she needs his help. She asks for him to marry her and to date her. Zhao Yang is confused and says that he was just at her wedding two days ago. She brings up that he’s confessed to her before so she accepts now. He says that was in the past, and frankly he pursued her because he thought she was rich. She says that she can give him all the money if he’ll just date her. He replies that he did need the money before but he doesn’t now. He turns to leave and she grabs onto his shirt. He removes her hands and walks away.

Qi Yue then goes to her high school to see her former teacher, who is now the principal. She asks if she can return to the school. He’s confused. She says that she wants to relive her high school days, so he will come back and change her life. She starts sobbing about how it’s changed but she can’t live it again. Lu Xiao returns home and wonders where Qi Yue is. He notices that she left her phone at home and out looking for Qi Shuo. He runs around the city looking for her.

Qi Yue is now sitting at a table and thinking about every shared moment with Qi Shuo:

Mom. I’m your son.

You are my mom. This is your home. Where would I be if I’m not here?

You’ll become a great mother. You will become a better version of yourself.

One day in the future, you told me home is not a place to reason. Home is a place full of unconditional love and trust.

For your marriage, does it matter what month I’m born?

Get some sleep if you’re tired. You carried me like this when I was a kid. Then I fell asleep on your back.

A worried Lu Xiao finally spots her sitting there all alone and looking so glum. He quickly removes his jacket and wraps it around her as he hugs her. They both cry together. When they return home, many traces of Qi Shuo’s existence has disappeared - his notes, the decorations, the photos… Anything related to him. Qi Yue screams at Lu Xiao for throwing out Qi Shuo’s things. He explains that he didn’t disappear but lives in a parallel universe. She tries to get inside a drawer but it’s locked. She then demands for the key from him. He tearfully digs the key out of his pocket and hands it to her. She quickly unlocks the drawer and pulls out Qi Shuo’s diary and opens it to the first page. The text is disappearing right before her eyes: “Mom. We’ll still be a family in the next life.” All the text starts disappearing off the pages as she flips through. She desperately tries to rewrite the text but to no avail. She then sends voice messages to Shu Ling and her roommates to ask if they remember who Qi Shuo is. A sobbing Lu Xiao sits nearby. Qi Yue says even if everyone else forgets him, she’ll definitely remember him. She continues sobbing as she talks about him – her son. T____T

One Month Later

Shu Ling is leaving her home for medical school. When she sees Qi Yue’s message asking if she remembers Qi Shuo, she asks who is Qi Shuo. :( At her checkup, Qi Yue asks about her son. When the doctor asks how she knows it’s a son, she replies that she’s already picked out a name for her son.

Five Years Later

Lu Xiao and Qi Yue are eating breakfast with their son, who asks if they can go to the beach today. Lu Xiao tells him that he can’t today, he has to go to work as they’re working on a great program. but they can go tomorrow. His son asks how great it is. Lu Xiao says that in the future, people can travel through time and space and cross mountains and seas to sit in front of him and eat tofu pudding with him. He says goodbye to them and then leaves. Qi Yue receives a notification on her laptop for her serial story: I Belonged to Your World. Online, someone asks if the son disappeared suddenly. Qi Yue replies that as the author, she doesn’t want him to disappear either.

Her son interrupts her to bring her a locked box and asks what’s inside it. She says that it’s a diary, and when she opens it, it remains blank. Her son says there’s nothing inside it, but she just continues flipping through as she lovingly touches each page.

Epilogue: May you and your loved one live happily without crossing mountains and seas.

Our little family of three is now walking on the beach, in nearly matching outfits. Lu Xiao tells his wife that their time travel program has made very important progress. He thinks that in the near future, they can really create a time machine. She asks if he isn’t afraid that their son from the future will come back and ask her to not marry him. He replies impossible because they are destined to be a family. Their son runs off ahead of them and bumps into a man. Qi Yue apologizes to the man, and then tells her son to apologize.
Her son quickly apologizes, even as the man – it’s Qi Shuo!! – says it’s okay and then says he’s so cute and rubs the boy’s head. Qi Shuo walks away while Lu Xiao admonishes his son for running around. Qi Shuo stops and turns back to look over at Qi Yue, who also stops to look back at him. He smiles and she returns the smile. Then the two resume walking away from each other, as Qi Yue joins her husband and son, and Qi Shuo joins a long-haired woman. (Is it Shu Ling?!)

May you and your loved one live happily without crossing mountains and seas.

The End.

Remarks

by FanFanX

[First Impression (Eps1-2)] Liu Yi Tong is Qi Yan Di's son in this series. Her love interest is supposed to be Wu Di Fei. (It's not going well right now, haha.) This isn't much of a spoiler as it's all laid out within Ep1.

While the subs are fine, the editing for this one is a bit strange at times.

[Actors/Actresses] I like Qi Yan Di when she's in a modern romcom. I love her in Love the Way You Are (2019). But I really did not like her in A River Runs Through It, as her character made me want to tear out my hair. And then there's Liu Yi Tong, who I only know as FL's moustachioed brother in Love the Way You Are (2022). I've been looking forward to seeing these two as mom and son!

I'm sure Wu Di Fei will become cute (eventually) in this. I recently realized I know him as the dopey brother from Sunshine of My Life (a series that I love but will likely not rewatch again due to its ML now). He was more recently in A Romance of the Little Forest as 2ML/intern. Update: Wu Di Fei has retired from acting due to an unspecified illness.

[Behind the Scenes] BTS from the end of filming. Watch at your own risk - as I am positive there are spoilers contained within. I absolutely love that Liu Yi Tong is as joyful (& goofy) in real life as his characters have been.

[OST] Such a pretty OST. Will update if they ever release it...

[Ending] Open ending with happy interpretation.

[Review & Rating]
Love this series! Liu Yi Tong is charming, endearing and adorable as Qi Shuo. In my next lifetime, I want a son who calls me 妈 the way Qi Shuo does. He just makes my heart burst with joy with his endless love for his mother. Qi Yan Di is fun in this type of romcom role. Just being pretty isn’t enough, so she’s also got the right amount of sass in this. Qi Yue is not the brightest one here, so Qi Shuo is definitely the brains here. These two make such a wonderfully hilarious mom-and-son team. They’re my favorite thing about this series.

Honestly, Wu Di Fei as our smartypants Lu Xiao just didn’t stand a chance in outshining the mom-and-son duo here. I don’t think he’s supposed to. And I wanted to watch this series because of that team. The three are pretty cute together, too. While I get it that the point of Qi Shuo's trip is for the romance to happen, it was definitely secondary to the mom-and-son relationship for me.

To be frank, I put off watching the last few eps for a while longer than necessary as I did not want this series to end. Alas, things have to end and I remain a teeny bit conflicted with its ending. What’s your take?

Random RecommendationMy Lethal Man  - A not-so-sweet ML to help you override all the remaining tears left to shed. (It would have been funny for me to suggest Mountains and Ocean but it's too bizarre.)

Rating: 4/5♥♥♥
Qi Yue may have a lifetime of Lu Xiao’s love but what about Qi Shuo’s lifetime? Happy ending for our couple. But an open ending with a happy interpretation for our loving Qi Shuo who still exists in this realm - right? Right! Mayhaps he crossed more mountains and seas…and lived happily.
