[Ep1] Ye Shi Lan and Lu Zhao Xi meet in the countryside. Unbelievably nice guy alert: he doesn’t abandon the sheep when he twisted his leg and is wandering in pouring rain. Unfortunately, she thinks he’s a sheep thief. It was the sheep who was baaaaad and ran away. But more than that, she thinks he’s an unethical alcohol salesman, lying to elderly people that it’s medicine. He has no way to prove himself when he’s stranded without his car and his phone. There’s no signal either.
Ye Shi Lan is piqued again when Lu Zhao Xi wipes his chopsticks – a sign that means they’re unhygienic. She won’t let him eat their chicken without charging him per piece. Being the chaebol (that he is), he pays 300 RMB/pc. Daylight robbery, lol. Then at night, he wants to sleep in her room because the “guest room” is infested with (imaginary?) bugs. Once again he offers 300 RMB/night

[Ep2] Lu Zhao Xi is crushed. He's a hospital director, stranded in nowhere and accused of a petty crime. But everything changes when he learns that Ye Shi Lan is a paediatrician at Anxi Hospital, which means she works under him. He doesn’t say it, but his eyes are beaming: 有戲 (you xi)! As in “There’s game!” Now he has an appetite and eats her last ramen. He promises to return 10 for every bowl he eats. He also has the spirit to work. He’ll pour tea for everyone except Ye Shi Lan. He even points the mouthpiece at her, which means she has to reach all the way around to grab the handle. We’re that petty now.
When it’s time for food, the dinner table is filled with execs. Everyone’s a director except the doctor FL. Lol! She calls him out for being the fake exec, though.
[Ep3] Ye Shi Lan is transferred back to the hospital. It’s thanks to our not-fake hospital director. And he gets his sweet revenge on her, but really, he’s a sweet guy. For me, the highlight of the episode is the assistant, Lin Kai Wen. He’s cut and dry, sarcastic and emotionless. An amusing robotic secretary xD.
[Ep4] Karma is a beautiful thing if you’re Lu Zhao Xi. He’s making Ye Shi Lan quiver in her spot by paying back every single penny. She’s like a cat held at the nape, unable to attack, and defenceless. She’s regretting every minute at the village, and Lu Zhao Xi, the predator, is loving every second of her current bind. He tells her that his debt is cogent, but her debt towards him is muddled. Just calculating it will take a while, but don’t worry, their days are long ~
There is an ab scene. (I thought Ye Shi Lan was in paediatrics and not maternal and newborn...)
Ye Shi Lan calls Lu Zhao Xi a man-eating flower 食人花 (chi ren hua). Hey at least she called him a flower. Speaking of flowers, their CP name is Xi Lan Hua = Broccoli (西蘭花; xilanhua).
Yao Jia Jia is a romcom writer. She bases her evil 2ML on Lin Kai Wen. I guess he doesn’t look friendly, lol. She notes down his attributes that he brings bandaids [true], and it’s because his heart is wounded [false].
Easter eggs: Lu Zhao Xi is watching Find Yourself.
[Ep6] Ye Shi Lan decorates the office with more plants because she notices Lu Zhao Xi likes greenery. Of course he does.”Broccoli” is his favourite.
Lin Kai Wen calls Lu Zhao Xi an “elementary chicken” = an immature adult who enjoys teasing the object of their love. Lin Kai Wen clarifies he didn’t mean to insult elementary kids, though, which insults Lu Zhao Xi even more, lol. Later, he goes out of his way to explain to Ye Shi Lan that he isn’t an “elementary chicken”. However, she's so logical about it, it actually makes Lu Zhao Xi look dumber than an “elementary chicken” Haha. And he really is quite the petty kid as he returns her a hundred ramen with grandeur. It’s in two suitcases! Being a practical one, I LOVE the suitcases. I also really like that he bought individual packages with a variety of flavours. So thoughtful with so much effort ~
Lin Kai Wen earnestly inquires of Lu Zhao Xi if he overstepped his line with the “elementary chicken” comment. Our hospital director doesn’t mind obviously. Lin Kai Wen also asks about bandaids. Omg, does he read Yao Jia Jia’s story? Is that why he knows about “elementary chicken”? So he’s a stoic character with a mushy side?! Awww!
[Ep7] Ye Shi Lan and Lu Zhao Xi’s housekeeper happily share their complaints about Lu Zhao Xi but she is no housekeeper. She is his mother.
Ye Shi Lan is angry because she thinks Lu Zhao Xi sold her out for tattling on Director Huang. She knew that her “happiness (幸福) came too suddenly”. Not sudden at all. Honey, your next stop is happiness! (Why I say that is because I think this is a nod to Find Yourself’s Chinese title: 下一站是幸福 / The next stop is happiness). She grumbles to her friend how she even gave him holly! (It’s an evergreen with the meaning of healthy, longevity and happiness.
Lu Zhao Xi makes up with Ye Shi Lan by making her treat (an affordable meal), lol. She rejected when he wanted to treat and couldn’t reject when he called her petty. He cornered her. He gives her credit for successfully overturning Director Huang’s oppressive ways. He blurts out that he’s doing it for her “happiness”. This surprises them both, but he explains that it’s because he treats her like a friend. But she says he’s her superior, she never thought of him as her friend. He corrects her: she did. Look at her, openly holding a grudge against him (e.g. rejecting his coffee). She would never with Director Huang. With that comparison, Ye Shi Lan realizes he’s right. She isn’t afraid of him. She already thought of him as her friend.
As friends, Lu Zhao Xi buys flowers for Ye Shi Lan in front of the snobby female doctor who’s dating Ye Shi Lan’s ex-crush (?). It looks like that doctor guy liked YSL more than she liked him... The next morning, she’s happily taking care of the holly again.
Lin Kai Wen kills the conversation with Lu Zhao Xi again. I love Lin Kai Wen’s scenes!
[Ep8] Ye Shi Lan freaks out that her mother is visiting. She’s so distracted, she accidentally touches Lu Zhao Xi’s pecs without realizing it or it probably wasn’t that impressive because she had no reaction. Lol.
Ye Shi Lan prepares irises for Lu Zhao Xi. He wants to know the meaning and is disappointed when she says it's friendship. He started it with “friends”. Google also tells me it means missing someone. Who comes up with all these flower meanings anyway.
Ye Shi Lan lets Director Huang walk all over her in front of her colleagues for her doctor career. Lu Zhao Xi runs to the restaurant to save her in his spick and span shoes. I must be too conservative... our hospital director is wearing hot magenta.
Easter eggs: Go Ahead is playing in the background when Mom Ye is having dinner with the girls.
[Ep9] Ye Shi Lan is annoyed that our Hospital Director arrived in hot magenta of all colours. Three shots is all it took to get back on Director Huang’s good side. Naive girl. All she wants is to be a doctor (even if she’s oppressed). Lu Zhao Xi hates seeing her degrade herself though. In his heart, she is kind, and righteous, and she will always do her best in every post. She deserves better! She’s touched, but asks him to not use his awesome standards to judge her. She can’t offend Director Huang. Unlike Lu Zhao Xi who can leave anytime, she needs her career, she needs to stay.
Lu Zhao Xi (holds her still): Ye Shi Lan, I will take full responsibility of you.
Flustered, Ye Shi Lan believes in him. The man even scraped his ankle because of all the running he did for her.
And now it's Lu Zhao Xi’s turn to be flustered. He meets Mom Ye and realizes he has become Ye Shi Lan’s boyfriend. Ye Shi Lan phones him later at night to explain but he doesn’t want to hear it via the phone. He wants to hear and see her skittish right before his eyes. He really is an “elementary chicken”. He continues to make it difficult for her the next day when he’s clearly excited for her explanation. He wants her to woo him. Ye Shi Lan preps herself for a good minute before complimenting him that he's tall and handsome. When he was drunk, his face was flushed and that was sexy. Lu Zhao Xi smiles with rosy cheeks. Her embellished words are music to his ears. But he rejects her request to have dinner with her mother. The dude is having a blast, messing with Ye Shi Lan. Ye Shi Lan is not. She mutters that with his personality, he won’t have a girlfriend. *Hint Hint*
Our childish Lu Zhao Xi prods Ye Shi Lan to convince him again. She makes an earnest attempt and even buys him a bouquet of yellow roses! I really like how sincere she is even though he’s messing with her. He was flustered for a second, thinking she wanted to confess. It’s an apology. As for confessions, she says it should be him, the guy. He takes the cue and tells her to hold the roses! Ou?!... It’s another prank. At least that was the last prank (for now). He promises to help her with a caveat – he records her like how she recorded him as proof that she owes him a favour. I love how he has the upper-hand, but he stumbles backward when she angrily walks up to him. She pities his future girlfriend. At this rate, he’ll always be fighting with her. Already is. He smirks. He remembers that she said he wouldn’t even find a girlfriend. He assures her there won’t be any victims other than her.
[Ep10] Lu Zhao Xi is perfectly ruining Ye Shi Lan’s plan by being the perfect boyfriend, haha. Ofc he wants to impress Mom Ye. He’s also a little jealous that she chose his career as a doctor. She must still be crushing on her “crush”.
There’s even an accidental kiss! The most realistic accidental kiss in Cdramaland: Lu Zhao Xi gets a bruise on his forehead, and Ye Shi Lan has a nose bleed, lol. And then Mom Ye grabs the perfect picture! That was some finger dexterity for catching that painful accidental kiss.
Lin Kai Wen confronts Yao Jia Jia. He figured out she’s writing him as her evil 2ML. He was so clever in ordering the iced coffee or whatever drink it was to trap her! He’s the fan who’s been reading for 3 years! I’m really liking this 2nd CP.

Ye Shi Lan is the type who prefers to handle her own problems. She wouldn’t “bother” her friends. Lu Zhao Xi begs to differ. That isn’t bothersome. Just like how she’s willing to lend a helping hand whether it’s a stranger or a colleague, others can feel the same. He wants her to believe that she’s not alone. She repeats his words that she isn’t alone as if to ground them in her heart. She will remember it.
Ye Shi Lan is happy being friends with Lu Zhao Xi, plus there is no reason for him to like her. Yao Jia Jia begs to differ. Her views about herself don't represent his views about her and what he values. Take the flower for example, some people will like it, some people won’t, some people can change their mind about disliking it, but the flower is still the same. Ye Shi Lan agrees to an extent. The flower is still the same. “But no one will call a flower a leaf”. Ye Shi Lan’s last name is Leaf (葉). Isn’t that perfect, though? They’re the Broccoli couple. She thinks they’re from different worlds, different species. Hey, Ye Shi Lan has a sheep stuffed animal. I wonder who she’s thinking of (:
[Ep12] Lin Kai Wen visits the cafe, but Yao Jia Jia took three days off. Apparently she tripped because a dog chased her. He’s the dog. LOL.
Ye Shi Lan sees Lu Zhao Xi waiting for her outside of the mall. She’s a little dazed. This “happiness” feels surreal. I’d say it’s another nod to Find Yourself: “The next stop is ‘happiness’”. After a tiring day of work, she has a boyfriend waiting for her. Life seems beautiful at this moment. When she asks him why he didn’t wait inside, he flirtatiously replies that it's to make his girlfriend, who's anticipating to see him, happy. Ye Shi Lan smirks. Our hospital director can’t lose at anything. He even had to beat her in their fake girlfriend/boyfriend act
Mom Lu betrays his son and confesses to Ye Shi Lan her real identity, lol. Lu Zhao Xi has such a healthy and wealthy family, it’s nor surreal, it’s unreal, ha.
Lu Zhao Xi will let Ye Shi Lan practice driving with his car! She’s shocked. Does he mean it? He replies, “When have I ever lied to you?” Never! Aw.
In the car, Lu Zhao Xi wishes Ye Shi Lan “Goodnight”. She only smiles and nods. She must feel a surreal happiness. A boyfriend is saying goodnight to her. Later at night, she voice-messages him, “Director, goodnight.” AWW. She’s so cute. She replies to him via phone because she didn’t reply in the car. Lu Zhao Xi can’t handle the cuteness.
Ye Shi Lan is enthralled by the beautiful rainbow after the rain. Our Lu Zhao Xi is staring at something more beautiful: her.
[Ep13] It’s as if the rainbow reminded Ye Shi Lan that all good things are short-lived...and so: Ye Shi Lan pushes Lu Zhao Xi (who’s too good to be true) towards his ex-girlfriend, Qiao Yu. At least he clarifies his misunderstanding that she doesn’t love Dr. Jiang anymore. At home, he’s celebrating like a maniac, meanwhile Ye Shi Lan still thinks he’s carrying a torch for his ex!
Yao Jia Jia gives Lin Kai Wen attitude. Pft. Our insensitive cutie doesn’t register that she’s miffed and even thanks her for the story changes! She serves him his strawberry drink with a loud thud, and spitefully advises him that his “girl-friend” is using the story as an excuse to reject him. Awwwwww. I can’t wait for her to know he’s the one reading her stories.
Doctor Xu isn’t so bad (or bad at all). He goes out of his way to clarify the misunderstanding with Ye Shi Lan.
[Ep14] Lin Kai Wen genuinely apologizes to Yao Jia Jia. He read her hate comments and assures her those are illogical. He says there are praises too – four to be exact. Pft. He also gives her notes to help her improve the “business” part of her novel. Awwwwww.
Lu Zhao Xi tells Ye Shi Lan to get him sunflowers because it means “secret love”. Ye Shi Lan doesn’t get the hint! She thinks it’s for his ex. Speaking of exes, Dr. Jiang chats with her, and comments that it’s rare that exes can be so friendly like Lu Zhao Xi and Qiao Yu. He then says it’s likely they’ll reconcile. LOL. I see why Ye Shi Lan broke up with him.
While driving, Ye Shi Lan learns that she did lose the necklace. Lu Zhao Xi freaks out more than her because she has control of the wheels. Lol. He tells her to pullover so that he can explain. She feels guilty but he easily cheers her up again by assuring her it’s solved and she should be calling him “Lu Zhao Xi” not Director Lu.
The boys are ridiculously sweet in this episode. There’s Lin Kai Wen with his notes. And ofc, there’s Lu Zhao Xi. On top of the driving and the necklace, he’s also restraining himself from confessing not only because he has no confidence, but also because he doesn’t want to pressure her as her superior. And if she rejects him, it’ll put her in an awkward spot. So considerate.
[Ep15] Ye Shi Lan shares her dark secret with Lu Zhao Xi: her father’s suicide. He went bankrupt and lost the courage to stand up again. Aw, she’s opening up to him with just one cup of wine. Yao Jia Jia only got to know when Ye Shi Lan was drunk drunk.
Yao Jia Jia solves the mystery of Lin Kai Wen's strawberry drink devotion: he eats too fast and so his blood glucose rises fast, which means it also drops fast. Whenever he feels hypoglycaemic, he takes a sip. She also offers to write attractive traits for her 2ML Kevin in order to impress his “girl friend". Ah, but didn’t she say his “girl friend” was rejecting him, lol. Bashfully, Yao Jia Jia curls her bangs that he can still try. Lin Kai Wen smiles. I’m falling for this guy! xD I also like Yao Jia Jia’s complaints about drama-fans. For example, they find it boring after the couple gets together. *Raises hand*.
Yao Jia Jia finds Lu Zhao Xi’s immature scene very familiar. Because Liu Kai Wen took it from her story!
The next day, Ye Shi Lan’s eyes can’t leave her phone. And then Lu Zhao Xi finally calls her. He needs a fake girlfriend to bring to his mother’s birthday dinner. Ye Shi Lan refuses! She was waiting to refuse, lol. Revenge! He bargains that it’s not entirely fake because she likes him too – she kissed him. She counters that he kissed her too. Smoothly, Lu Zhao Xi replies, “[Correct.] My heart is moved.” Ou, so direct now, lol. But she still rejects! Except she can’t when he plays the phone recording of her owing him a favour. He also got her favourite dress ~
[Ep16] Yao Jia Jia rings Ye Shi Lan, worried that she’ll reject Lu Zhao Xi. Ye Shi Lan assures her. She has it figured (“numbered”) out, which worries Yao Jia Jia even more, “I’m not assured! Your numbers are all negative!” Hahaha.
Once again, Lu Zhao Xi knows Ye Shi Lan more than she knows herself. She strives to live her best even when the environment isn’t optimal. When she was in the countryside, she would decorate her room with flowers. When she was underused as a secretary, she’d decorate his office with flowers. Now that she’s a “substitute”, “fake” girlfriend, she’ll do her best and still decorate his home with flowers. I see. He likes flowers. Speaking of flowers, Ye Shi Lan thinks people are like flowers: some have the optimal light and temperature, some don’t, but they’ll still aspire to grow well, stay rooted, and look up towards the sun. Like her, except... Ye Shi Lan isn’t a flower. She is a leaf like her last name (葉 Ye). It’s not as pretty, attractive and embellished, but it’s endurable (long-lasting). Especially in a relationship, ya? Lu Zhao Xi’s reply is sweet:
Lu Zhao Xi: If you’re a leaf, then my eyes can’t tolerate flowers anymore.
She brushes off his confession, but he’s serious. “Today, I’m not joking around.” I like this birthday dinner in that there’s all these pretences displayed without pretences. They’re a “fake couple” and she’s a “substitute”. The parents know and can see their exact relationship in its truest essence: he is pursuing her and she is letting him pursue her.
After dinner, Ye Shi Lan prompts Lu Zhao Xi to drive her home. Boy, get the hint. In the car, he admits defeat: he likes her and wants to pursue her. She teases him about Qiao Yu, which agitates him. He was never interested in Qiao Yu. It’s Ye Shi Lan who keeps bringing her up.
Ye Shi Lan (challenges): Oh, so I made you swim with her.Lu Zhao Xi: I...! Apparently I'm incredibly immature, aren’t I? Hahaha.
After that burst of exasperation, Lu Zhao Xi apologizes. Ye Shi Lan brings the topic back to the confession. She has some words to say too, but he stops her to pull over, otherwise it’ll be dangerous diving. Who knows what she’s going to stay with that opener. My green flag is a safe driver, LOL. Lu Zhao Xi has proven it twice now.
And here is Ye Shi Lan’s rollercoaster confession:
Ye Shi Lan: Thank you for liking me. Oh no. I like you too. Oh phew. [...] When I realized I liked you, I was very worried. Oh no. Because I thought you wouldn’t like me. Oh, okay. And I was worried you would like me. Oh no.
Ye Shi Lan recounts all the times he was her saviour. She’s worried that his love is sympathy. Lu Zhao Xi disagrees. Her saviour was always herself. The Chinese title is 我可能遇到了救星 → I May Have Met My Saviour. And now we know for certain the saviour was always Ye Shi Lan herself. And he helped her realize that. He sympathizes with her, but more than sympathy, he admires her more. Perhaps in the future, he’ll sympathize with lots of people but his love is for her and only for her.

Ye Shi Lan isn’t done talking, though. She wants to confirm his feelings aren't fleeting or a false-positive.

But she steps back. Lu Zhao Xi is like, “Still not done talking?” Hahaha. Nope!
Ye Shi Lan says being loved by him is blissful. But her personality is stubborn. You don’t say. He may not like her after he gets to know her. She’s also aware she doesn’t have much luck in her life and so whenever she’s too immersed, and too complacent, she has to remind herself if she can handle this much happiness. Aw. She admits she’s cowardly. She wants more without losing anything. Oh no. A rejection? This girl is messing with me and him.
Lu Zhao Xi can sense the rejection, but he isn’t defeated. He reminds her they saw the rainbow together at this very park. He also gives her a bouquet with rainbow colours! There are green roses? He wishes to give her “good things” like the ones that follow the rainbow. [She said that]. He can’t promise that she will only experience good things in the future, but if there are obstacles, he will do his best to guide her to a better direction. So down to earth! So much sincerity! A confession perfect for Ye Shi Lan

But Ye Shi Lan isn’t done.
Ye Shi Lan: I’m done. LOL. He’s so confused.
He doesn’t get it, and so she kisses him.
Ye Shi Lan: This time, I want to be 得意忘形 “so complacent and lose my sense of measure”. Her “numbers” are infinitely positive!Lu Zhao Xi: Just this is 得意忘形?
He kisses her again, deeper.
Lu Zhao Xi drops off Ye Shi Lan, and jokingly asks if she’ll tell him everything was an accident the next morning. She pinky-promises him to assure him that once she’s committed, she will devote herself. She walks inside, but stops and turns around. She realizes she signed, but forgot to stamp ~ It’s another kiss~ Aw. She’s a woman of her words. She’s devoting herself to him.
[Ep17] Lu Zhao Xi wants to be the doting boyfriend who drove his girlfriend to work, but Ye Shi Lan needs to be the diligent secretary to her boss. To his dismay, she doesn’t want their relationship publicized. And so he pulls over immediately... She can drive!! Especially when she’s his secretary. How did he predict this would come in handy, lol.
Ye Shi Lan updates her WeChat with a picture of the candies Lu Zhao Xi gave her. Then – *dun dun dun* – they both realize she blocked him because he never sees her updates, HAHA. Since we’re talking about phones:
1) I like the detail that he saves her number with “A” in front so that she’s always at the top. It started because she told him to (as his secretary). And now it’s because she’s his girlfriend. That sure worked out (; [I’m 99% certain Lin Kai Wen (assistant) doesn’t get the A privilege]2) Are their ringtones serious or are they sound effects? She has him as a dog barking and he has her as a chicken (rooster?) crowing.
Ye Shi Lan decorates Lu Zhao Xi’s office with Japanese Andromeda (evergreen shrub). She’s giving him “leaves” because she’s a “leaf” ~ Oh hey, didn’t she give him an evergreen before too? The holly. Was that supposed to mean she unconsciously liked him then too? I may be reading too much into this.
Lu Zhao Xi is adorably considerate of Ye Shi Lan’s mother. As a reward, Ye Shi Lan kisses him everywhere (north, south, east and west). She also baits him to sleep over at night. When he nods, she smiles that she’ll be sleeping with the grandma. Smirking, she leaves him in the room with lipstick marks all over his face.
[Ep19] Lu Zhao Xi is jealous in the morning, but to hide it from the grandparents, he says it’s the grease from the breakfast. After the meal, Ye Shi Lan sweetly asks if he needs vinegar (=jealousy) to go with the grease. Our Lu Zhao Xi doesn’t like to lose and replies that he prefers sugar to degrease. He checks his blindspots and goes for the sweet kiss.
Lin Kai Wen proposes to be Yao Jia Jia’s manager. He has connections that may help her get her writings published. She excitedly agrees and makes him promise not to abandon her as her fan if it falls through. He assures her it won’t happen. It’s not like he liked her for one or two days. Ouuuu.
Lu Zhao Xi gets another sweet revenge on his girlfriend. Ye Shi Lan had swung his hand away after they’re almost caught dating. He pretends to be hurt to get her to blow and kiss his hand. After 19 episodes, I get this show. It’s all about Lu Zhao Xi’s sweet vengeance on Ye Shi Lan, haha.
It’s payday! Ye Shi Lan buys Lu Zhao Xi a present, which is a pressure for both of them, different though. She can’t buy presents as expensive as his and he can’t buy presents that are expensive for her. She tells him to suffer a little and suffer in love, he will. He also springs up a random test on her to choose between her house or him. She avoids answering him! LOL. She ponders, and asks, “How big is this house?” Ha. She still doesn’t answer.
Lin Kai Wen has been reporting to Lu Zhao Xi’s father!
Qiao Yu tells Ye Shi Lan that Lu Zhao Xi must really love her if he’s willing to keep their relationship under wraps. He’s the type who shows off his happiness.
[Ep20] Lin Kai Wen timely appears in front (or behind) Yao Jia Jia just when she’s having a writer’s block. To inspire her, he cosplays with her. Omg, lol. I want my original Kai Wen back.
Ye Shi Lan can openly talk about her father’s suicide. It’s thanks to Lu Zhao Xi, guiding her to better places.
Ye Shi Lan is finally a proper doctor at her hospital after 20 episodes! For Lu Zhao Xi’s sake, she also reveals her relationship to her colleagues (who are genuinely happy for her). She has friends at work now ~
[Ep21] Rumours are rampant and full of vitriol, hurting Ye Shi Lan to hurt Lu Zhao Xi as the hospital director. Of course. I’d totally refuse life-saving treatment if I knew my hospital director’s dating history.
Lu Zhao Xi surprises Ye Shi Lan with a present: the necklace that she liked when they were buying presents for his mother. This time he’s not struggling with the chain. And then omo, he proposes! She laughs at him for being in such a rush. He’s not. He’s set on her.
Ye Shi Lan (pinches his cheeks): Be good. Wait until I buy a home, and then I’ll marry you. She said the male version of marry as if she’s taking a bride ^^.
Lu Zhao Xi’s father prohibits Ye Shi Lan from patient care. One episode of being a doctor at her regular post, not bad.
[Ep22] The rumours have reached Ye Shi Lan's mother and now she learns about every lie. Lu Zhao Xi comforts Ye Shi Lan that her mother seemed forgiving. And then Ye Shi Lan tells him the truth, a secret she never told anyone: her mother had written a will. Ye Shi Lan doesn’t know what happened afterwards to make her mother give up suicide, but from then on she knew she couldn’t burden her mother or she may lose her mother too. T___T. No wonder her numbers are negative. This is why she never tells her mother anything that would upset her. This must be why she worked hard to become a doctor, a parent’s favourite profession. Lu Zhao Xi assures her that her mother loves her. She isn’t her burden, but the reason she chose to live. I agree!
Lu Zhao Xi has a business trip. Ye Shi Lan helps him pack and she finds condoms. Just one pack? Not two? *Snickers* I don’t know their brands, but I like that there’s a (deliberate?) 2 there (The Day of Becoming You reference). To his surprise (or dismay),Ye Shi Lan calmly smiles and puts it by his bed. One of these days, they’ll come into use.
Dad Lu was considerate of Ye Shi Lan to suspend her patient care because they would harass her. Are people that bored?! And that isn’t enough. He wants Ye Shi Lan to break up with Lu Zhao Xi! A fake breakup. These two have done it all. Fake dating and fake breakup, haha. Contract marriage too? Only in breaking up will Director Gao leave her alone. Dad Lu doesn’t want her to tell Lu Zhao Xi because he sucks at acting. Lu Zhao Xi’s life was always smooth-sailing, so much that Dad Lu doesn’t trust him for this, lol.
[Ep23] Su Xiao Yang (the boy with the big grin) and Zeng Xin Yu (the friendly female doctor) are dating. Ye Shi Lan tells Su Xiao Yang that she broke up with Lu Zhao Xi. Did she purposely tell the big mouth?
Lin Kai Wen sees Lu Zhao Xi gloating as he reads his romantic texts from Ye Shi Lan, and asks about it. Lu Zhao Xi is like, “Oh you mean my ex?” LMAO. Ye Shi Lan even orders a bouquet for Lu Zhao Xi! She was so sweet in asking him to be hers again. But. You know. Lu. Zhao. Xi.
Lu Zhao Xi is no longer a director because hospital politics are solved. Ye Shi Lan says she can support him, ha.
Lu Zhao Xi tells Ye Shi Lan that Director Gao has looked into her, and there’s a document on her father. He had a terminal disease. It’s likely that he died by suicide so that his family wouldn’t suffer. Aww, Lu Zhao Xi stopped his immature games to tell her this news as soon as possible.
2nd CP:
Lin Kai Wen helps Yao Jia Jia find a coffee store of her own. He teaches her how to negotiate and not to rush. He’ll be here to help her. She smiles up at him, which prompts him to ask why she’s smiling.
Yao Jia Jia: Nothing much, [I just] like you. There’s the confession. Simple!
Lin Kai Wen: I wanted to say I like you too.
Lin Kai Wen had wanted to confess first but it’s pressuring when she writes romances. Aw. But he does initiate a change: he will tell all his colleagues he likes reading (mushy) romance stories. He should be openly supporting his girlfriend’s career. There's nothing to be embarrassed about.
Main CP:
Apparently, Lu Zhao Xi still owes Ye Shi Lan. The money he paid her back, she used it as his secretary. And now he’s her assistant again. Rules are the same: no pay, but he’ll get food and lodging. Yes ma’am!
Ye Shi Lan offers to take Lu Zhao Xi around but he doesn’t know how to bike. It’s her turn to coach him but he tumbles down. She helps him, and muddies her shoes. His shoes must be dirty too, but he’s only cleaning hers. As they’re by the river, she tells him how she loves her life and he’s the one who changed her. He smiles and acknowledges that he must be important to her. She immediately agrees. “Very important. So I will tightly hold onto you.” Oh right, she’s still pursuing him.
Lu Zhao Xi is proposing! Ye Shi Lan agrees – loud and clear! Watch him a few years later make her propose to him when they’re married. It’s totally something he’d do, lol. Our engaged couple updates their parents. In the phone call, Ye Shi Lan timidly tells her mother: “I love you”. Wait a second. Waaaait. She barely said any I-love-yous to Lu Zhao Xi! This drama really isn’t following the typical romcom pattern eh.
At night, Lu Zhao Xi doesn’t let Ye Shi Lan leave the room. He bought condoms from the grandpa. LOL. He can’t let them think that he has a problem and he can’t let her be happy for nothing. Really, this guy can’t lose. They kiss!
The end.
There is a “sequel”. It’s eluded in Yao Jia Jia’s new novel: “The Director Doesn’t Want to Work” Why? As Lin Kai Wen says, “He Only Wants to Fall in Love.” That’s the writer’s subtle way of ending Lu Zhao Xi and Ye Shi Lan’s future.
Remarks
[First Impression (Ep1-10)] I was lukewarm initially, but the cliché fake-boyfriend trope in Ep9 enticed me, although nothing is cliché so far. We may have a CEO-like hospital director, but he’s down to earth. He sees our FL for better than herself and even enables her to confidently be herself.
Hospital politics – skip! The only exception is when it includes the assistant Lin Kai Wen! I love his every scene. He’s hilariously cut and dry. I predict he also has a mushy soft side for trashy romcoms ~~
In case you missed it in the recaps, Lu Zhao Xi and Ye Shi Lan’s CP name is “Xi Lan Hua” 西蘭花. It means Broccoli. In Chinese, it ends with “flower” (花), which matches the drama’s flower theme.
[Actors/Actresses] A Zeng Shun Xi and Liang Jie redemption! They can finally TALK. Well, they’re still quarreling, but it’s flirty and full of respect and admiration from the ML. I had thought I would definitely like Zeng Shun Xi’s acting, but Liang Jie has my attention more. Maybe because it’s closer to her real personality. Or maybe because her character is relatable and root-able.
If you don’t already know by the sound effects, it’s the same crew as The Day of Becoming You (and the same scriptwriter as Go Ahead and Find Yourself). I actually don’t like them recycling from the same sound cloud. I thought it was excessive in TDoBY and it is still excessive. Somehow I feel like they purposely justified it by starting the drama at a farm/village.
