Part 1

[Ep1Ji Yun He (a sprite master) fell in love with a merman who had told her to be free like the wind, but this same man, Chang Yi, is stripping her wings (fig.) and imprisoning her until she dies. Chang Yi’s hate towards Yun He is seething. He won’t believe her anymore.

Yun He: I just want to live freely for the few days I have left. Let me go.
Chang Yi: You think I will still believe in your words like in the past? Now that you’re in my hands, I can tell you very definitively, from as high as the sky, as wide as the sea, and as deep as the underworld, I will make it so you cannot survive anywhere other than at my side. Oh. Dark and possessive

How did our couple end up like this? Well, the story will have to start from when they first met.
Chang Yi was imprisoned. The moment Yun He touched the casing, he burst through. A whip of his tail sent everyone flying. His attacks are fast and powerful. Unfazed, Yun He approaches him with a (seductive) smile. She has found her pretty thing and calls him “Big Tailed Fish”. Chang Yi roars ferociously. He doesn’t speak their language. I really like the sprite masters' coordinated attack (to subdue Chang Yi)

Ru Ling (Celestial Princess Shun De) imprisoned Chang Yi for injuring her servants and wants Wanhua Valley's Sprite Masters to tame him. She has three demands: 1) force the merman to speak their language and swear loyalty to her, 2) cut his tail so that he will never return to the ocean, and 3) offer his pearls and to never rebel. Off topic: I like that the tyrannical Ru Ling is barefooted. Yun He volunteers to tame Chang Yi. Yun He is rather confident she can tame anything.
This is the picture that flash2351 (in the comments) was flabbergasted that I didn’t include. Here you go ~
[Ep2] The competition to tame Chang Yi begins. Yun He is up against Lin Hao Qing, son of Lin Can Lang, the Valley Master.

Luo Luo (Luo Jin Sang; Yun He’s best friend, and the butterfly) lectures Yun He for the risky decision. But it’s not. It’s their only way forward. If Lin Hao Qing wins and becomes the next heir, they won’t be able to survive under his rule.
After Lin Hao Qing ends his round of torture on Chang Yi, Yun He visits with medication. This is why Yun He was deliberately late. The crueler Lin Hao Qing is, the more angelic Yun He will appear, and the easier it is for Chang Yi to let his guard down. Yun He tells Chang Yi she has her reasons to tame him, and if he cooperates, it’ll benefit them both. She promises she won’t hurt him and gently rubs the ointment over his injured tail, and the scar on his abs. Then she rubs the side of his abs that’s perfectly fine (while smirking, lol). Chang Yi is shy and flustered. He pushes her off with his internal aura. Yun He smirks again, Don’t be shy. Let’s be friends. By rubbing abs. Yun He’s smugness disappears when Chang Yi's stark nakedness from his bottom half renders her shy. Our merman has legs now (probably because of his injuries?).
In the following days Yun He spoils Chang Yi by giving him good food, and rare medication when she has always scrimped and saved. It’s worth it to feed the guy! Look at that face xD. However, Lin Hao Qing tells Chang Yi that Yun He has ulterior motives, making Chang Yi doubt her. But then he sees her wrist that’s bruised all over. He realizes she suffered to reach her rank as a sprite master. Yun He, who feels wronged, lists everything she has done for him. She gave him sincerity. And this is how he treats her? By doubting her? Chang Yi feels guilty.

The enemies, Lin Hao Qing and Yun He, used to be friends! When they were young she (hesitantly) pushed him over the cliff and there went their friendship. Over and gone. Currently, he hates her fake smile and arrogance. It seems Yun He is sorry and regretting it, but Lin Hao Qing doesn’t know. Ah, this is why Lin Hao Qing punished his servant (Si Yu) for hurting Yun He. He still cares about Yun He...as a “friend”. The deeper you love, the deeper you hate

Chang Yi trusts Yun He and takes the medication. He instantly feels better, but soon his body feels weird. His vision turns red.

[Ep3] Chang Yi is mostly fine, his body still feels weird, though. No time for that. Yun He drags him out to protect him from Lin Hao Qing who wants the merman to battle despite his injuries. Chang Yi worries for Yun He and tells her, “Yun...He. Dan...ger.” He spoke! In sloth speed. Then when she’s poisoned, Chang Yi rips a scale from his skin. He faints (because to a merman, every part of his body is etched in his memory, I think that’s what the Show meant, lol. I dunno. I got no merman wikipedia to confirm), When Chang Yi wakes up, Yun He promises she’ll escape with him. They both have the same desire: to be free.

Luo Luo almost kisses Chang Yi because letting him bite someone’s mouth will allow him to speak their language fluently. Yun He saves Chang Yi from Luo Luo’s lips. He thanks Yun He, but Luo Luo smacks him and takes the gratitude instead, ha
Chang Yi shares with Yun He his name. This is special because mermen only reveal their names to their relatives and friends. He cherishes Yun He. He even forces himself to cry (aw! so cute!) to make pearls for her as gratitude for saving him. Yun He feels guilty. She doesn’t deserve his sincerity when she saved him with the intention of making him grateful to her.

An ox sprite suddenly attacks Yun He and Chang Yi. Yun He powers him up and like a drill, he drives into the sprite, which sends it flying. Unrelated to this drama - when Ren Jia Lun's popularity surged from Under the Power, there were a lot of jokes on his character for spinning like a tornado in every other action scene. He’s still spinning. Eventually the sprite is obliterated by Xue San Yue, another sprite master. She’s here to guard Chang Yi and regulate the competition between Yun He and Lin Hao Qing.

[Ep4] Yun He catches Xue San Yue kissing her spirit cat beast, Li Shu. But love is prohibited between sprite masters and sprites. Yun He doesn’t report them, instead she uses Xue San Yue’s weakness to be “friends”. I’m starting to wonder if Yun He understands friendship. Making friends like this obviously doesn’t work. Can’t blame Xue San Yue for attacking Yun He. Chang Yi protects Yun He, and howls “Don’t touch her (Yun He)!”
Xue San Yue vows to kill all of them (Yun He, Chang Yi, and Luo Luo) for knowing her secret. Yun He’s next logical move is to kiss Chang Yi. In midair, they spin and kiss and spin and kiss. Twirl, twirl. Kiss, kiss. Luo Luo licks her lips and bites down on her bottom lip with lust in her eyes. LOL. The kiss is logical because it means they and lovers too. Everyone is in the same boat, violating the same rule. Alliance!

Xue San Yue asks Yun He why she wants an alliance. Yun He reveals they’re used by the Valley Master. The snowflake tattoo at the nape of their neck is a poison. Bitter Frost. Whenever it acts up, they’ll be in a chilling, unfathomable pain. The Valley Master has been inconspicuously feeding everyone antidote to control the poison. All traitors will inconspicuously die. Yun He wants to escape, to be free, and to take her new friend with her. She needs Xue San Yue’s help. Xue San Yue believes in the story, but doesn’t believe that Chang Yi is her lover. She’s not risking Li Shu’s life if Yun He doesn’t prove that Chang Yi is her lover. Come again? Weren’t we talking about life and death. And now everything is dependent on whether Chang Yi and Yun He are in love?! Yun He will prove it in three days. Because any pair of lovers needs three days to confirm they’re lovers. Xue San Yue accepts the condition. All idiots

The mission to seduce Xue San Yue begins with Yun He helping him shower and reaching her hand deep inside his clothes. He blasts her away. Aiyowei! That hurt lol. Rather than sexual harassment, it’s easier seducing Chang Yi with something thoughtful, like letting him hear the sound of his home (the sea) via a seashell. He’s moved.

Chang Yi: Why are you so nice to me?
Yun He: Because I like you.

She tries to kiss him. But he backs away. His daddy said that towards the person you like, you hug first and then kiss. Yun He automatically hugs him. Chang Yi smiles and hugs her back. Didn’t they already kiss? Why care about the order now!

Yun He asks Chang Yi to go on land with her, but Chang Yi doesn’t want to. People on shore all want their tails. Once it’s cut, their powers will be greatly reduced. They’ll also be forbidden from returning to the sea. After hearing this, Yun He’s heart hurts for him. (Reminder: She’s trying to remove his tail because that’s one of Ru Ling’s condition)

Luo Luo asks Li Shu to teach Chang Yi about love. This way it’d be easier to convince him to cut his tail and live on land. Luo Luo is convinced that Li Shu is a pro if he can seduce the heartless Xue San Yue. Luo Luo fist props his chest to be friendly with the big cat guy. I like how she blows on her fist because the impact hurt her, instead of the guy she “punched". Li Shu accepts the duty of being a love mentor and pats her shoulder. Luo Luo tips over at the touch, haha

[Ep5] Thanks to Li Shu, Chang Yi has mastered love! First, he’s going to repay Yun He by helping her shower! LOL. This, I like. It’s only fair! Immediately, he rips open the first layer of her clothes, omg. Yun He screams at the top of her lungs. Outside, Luo Luo worries for her bestie. Li Shu, with his acute ears, can hear that those are happy screams. Back inside, Chang Yi is done showering her. Omg, what happened! He innocently asks, “Are you happy?! Are you moved?” Yun He sulks that there are other ways to interact between lovers. Luo Luo quickly shouts “Sleep together!” Her voice reverberates in the cave. Yun He squeezes her eyes shut. “Thanks friend, lol”. Giving in, Yun He convinces Chang Yi to sleep separately. Luo Luo and Li Shu are still hovering outside. Luo Luo thinks it’s too quiet and wonders if they should check on them, hahaha. Li Shu sighs. He regrets complimenting her for being clever. Luo Luo and Li Shu are very cute together even though they’re not a couple. Actually Luo Luo is cute with anyone, heh

When Yun He wakes up in the morning, she finds herself wrapped in Chang Yi’s arm. He used his powers to keep her warm because Yun He was shivering all night (from her Bitter Frost). She asks him why he’s so nice to her. Simple. They’re lovers and she’s nice to him, and if she’s well, then he’s well. Yun He timidly leaves the cave.

Si Yu (Lin Hao Qing’s sprite) threatens Xue San Yue to betray Yun He or her prohibited relationship with Li Shu will be exposed. But Xue San Yue doesn’t betray. Si Yu’s scheme backfires. The only illicit love that’s exposed is Si Yu’s affection towards Lin Hao Qing. Si Yu is imprisoned.

But Si Yu escapes! She attacks Yun He with a lethal move but Lin Hao Qing counters and kills Si Yu! He had told her not to interfere with his business. A tear rolls down her eyes. She’s killed by the man she loves. Lin Hao Qing is also teary

Yun He kept a shard of the broken Love Mirror to test her feelings, but it was damaged during the fight with Si Yu. Yun He is unsure. Did she fall in love with Chang Yi?

[Ep6] Chang Yi creates a snowfall for Yun He because she wanted to see snow. Isn’t it ironic that she likes the cold snow? She tells him he doesn’t have to thank her for protecting him, she did it for herself, but Chang Yi isn’t doing it as gratitude. “I did it for you. I’ve decided to go on land with you.” Yun He is afraid that she’s not worth it.

Chang Yi: Mermans only listen to the sound here – points to his heart – and it says you’re worth it, so you’re worth it.

Yun He finally learns Chang Yi saved Ru Ling but because he refused to work for her, she imprisoned him, which means Ru Ling had lied. Yun He asks if he will continue to save people recklessly (Yun He is referring to herself). For Chang Yi, he would regret it more if he didn’t save someone because he feared the aftermath. Living in the present is more important.

After learning the truth, Yun He decides she won’t remove his tail. Yun He will protect him and preserve his innocence. She’ll return him to the ocean.

Yun He and Xue San Yue have a renewed alliance as Yun He comes clean with her fake love relationship (more like she’s caught). The plan to escape requires the antidote. Yun He needs a big enough distraction to steal the antidote. Li Shu volunteers to create chaos.

Luo Luo doubts Li Shu’s abilities. He’s just a cat! However, Yun He believes Li Shu is a sly and capable cat. All his actions have proven how perceptive he is. Now Luo Luo is wary of Li Shu. What if he’s too sly and untrustworthy? Yun He believes in Li Shu, he believes in those eyes that love Xue San Yue.

Later at night, Li Shu drugs Xue San Yue’s drink. She falls into a deep sleep. Li Shu suspiciously heads out to find the tenth matrix. All these years he has been searching for them and thanks to Yun He’s map, he’s found the last one. HmMm. The next day, he channels a magnificent force, using his blood as sacrifice to activate the ten matrices. He releases the sealed beast, Phoenix Qingyu. The chaos. Now Yun He can comb through Valley Master’s room for the antidote.

Did Li Shu die? The Phoenix (his master) saves Li Shu with a breath of spiritI think he’s fine??? Those breaths of spirits, man. Don’t underestimate them. The Phoenix has a vengeance against Ning Ruo Chu, the sprite master who sealed her, but when she learns he died a thousand year ago to seal her, the Phoenix cries.

[Ep7] Xue San Yue's heart breaks at Li Shu's betrayal. She doubts he ever loved her, but when there’s danger, Li Shu takes the blow for her. He’s dying to protect her. With the last of his strength, he flings Xue San Yue towards his master, the Phoenix, to keep her safe. Li Shu turns to dust and vanishes, leaving behind a medallion.

The antidote is found. Yun He could have escaped but she goes back to find Chang Yi in the collapsing cave. Idiotic him stayed inside because she told him to wait for her so that she can find your corpse? Dude, think! Then they’re teleported into another realm that held the Phoenix captive. Yun He notices his injury from saving her. Since her powers don’t work here, she leaves to find a body of water for Chang Yi to recover in. She ties a string on each of their index fingers. Once she finds water, she’ll use the string to find him.

Yun He: To be connected by a red thread is to be connected in the fate of marriage for a long time to come. Together, hand in hand, hair in white until old age. As long as we’re tied together, we won’t lose each other. This means whether I return, or live until old age will depend on you. Sooooo ... in her summary sentence, did she just ignore her own marriage proposal?

Yun He finds a pond. Chang Yi finishes tending to his wound and then asks Yun He if she needs help showering. Lol. No. Then he gives her a flower (from Li Shu’s seeds), which reminds Yun He of Xue San Yue’s predicament. Like Li Shu, Yun He also lied. Will her fate be the same? She distances herself from him, telling him to not risk his life to save her because she may not do the same for him.

Yun He is afraid of Chang Yi’s kindness (love) because she may miss him. She doesn’t want to care for him, but when he breaks something inside the hut, she immediately runs inside to check. Later at night, he suggests they sleep together. Yun He is flustered and refuses. Chang Yi says they’ve already slept together anyway.

Qu Xiao Xing (Yun He’s trusty aide) is caught and tied up but Lin Hao Qing sets him free. Lin Hao Qing wants Qu Xiao Xing’s help to save Yun He.

Qing Shu likes the Valley Master. This is why she pities Si Yu and Li Shu for loving their masters. The Valley Master indirectly tells her that sprites like her can yearn and wish all they want, but they’ll never get it.

The next day, Yun He realizes the pond has powers. It should be their exit, but in the pond remains the Phoenix’s begrudging aura, the hatred born from the betrayal of the man she loved. Yun He believes they need to solve the Phoenix’s hatred first. And what better way to get over an ex than a new boyfriend! With Chang Yi’s looks, Yun He is confident the Phoenix can move on. Chang Yi refuses. He won’t lie. His daddy said that lies are unforgivable. There exists no such thing as lies with good intentions. Yun He feels very guilty.

Without Chang Yi’s help, Yun He disguises herself as a male.

[Ep8] The Phoenix spirit tells her story to the (male) Yun He. She and Ning Ruo Chu were lovers. He promised to join her in this realm but he never came. Yun He is convinced Ning Ruo Chu manipulated the Phoenix to imprison her. Chang Yi believes otherwise – Ning Ruo Chu loved the Phoenix just like it is for them (Yun He and Chang Yi). Yun He is silent and guilty. But soon she’s reminded that Ning Ruo Chu still wears the Phoenix’s ribbon. He does love her.

Yun He, in the same disguise, tells the Phoenix spirit that she’s Ning Ruo Chu and shows her the ribbon. The spirit believes that she’s Ning Ruo Chu. In fact, as long as someone says it, the Phoenix will believe it because deep down she always believed in Ning Ruo Chu. Yun He finds it pitiful that they can’t be reunited. Chang Yi, our merman, begins to sing. Ning Ruo Chu materializes from water particles. The Phoenix’s begrudging aura is resolved. Then a vortex opens in the water.

Yun He realizes they’ll have to go back to Wanhua Valley. Chang Yi asks if she’s afraid to separate. Instead of replying immediately, Yun He teaches him human magic. From her hand she shows him three signs: rock, paper, and scissors. She tells him to pick one out of the three. He picks rock, and then she shows her hand which is paper. She wraps her hand around his rock and says she won. I get that she’s treating him like an idiot, but Show, don’t treat me like an idiot.

Yun He: I won, so you follow me. No matter what we’re not separating.

More than freedom, Yun He wants to live with meaning. She wants to live with him. (And here is the meaning of Chang Yi’s name:  chang = Long;  yi = Meaning. Living a long a meaningful life)

Yun He promises: From now on there won’t be lies, forever, eternity, always, together.

They place their lips on each other's kiss. Through the kiss, Chang Yi gives Yun He a pearl, which is now in her body. This pearl is different from the pearls he cries. It's his “Mermaid Pearl”.

Yun He and Chang Yi return to Wanhua Valley, but they're caught by the clan. Chang Yi proves he can speak to save Yun He from severe punishment (but she’s still punished).

Luo Luo is back. She could have escaped, but she didn’t for her best friend. She gives Yun He the antidote, but it’s fake. The Valley Master planted the fake medication because he knew Yun He’s plan. He still needs her in his grand scheme.

[Ep9] Lin Hao Qing tells Chang Yi that there’s only three days until Yun He will be frozen. The only way to save her is to cut his tail, which no one can cut unless he does it voluntarily. He’d never do it. Nope! It’s the pride of his merman clan. Not on his taily-tail-tail! Ah, but each day gets bitterly cold for Yun He. Tail is removed! Pow! Boom! Merman is no merman. His tail spirit (I think, lol) is condensed into a pearl, which is taken away by Lin Hao Qing (to give Ru Ling). If everything that dies is condensed into this spirit glowing orb, then nothing is going to die, is it? The pain is looking very excruciating, but he only cares about the antidote for Yun He. He doesn’t regret it because more than home, he wants her to be safe. More than freedom she wants him. More than home, he wants her

When Chang Yi wakes up, Yun He doesn’t know how to repay him. Going back home is what he wanted the most.

Chang Yi: Where you are, is where home is.
Chang Yi moves in to kiss Yun He. Hold up! Luo Luo is there! She pulls them apart, noting how Chang Yi already speaks fluently. If he needs some lips to bite, then have hers. Yun He needs rest. Luo Luo lips will be at his service. LOL

We get the full story between Lin Hao Qing and Yun He’s friendship fallout. Valley Master is behind it. Surprise! Yun He was the Valley Master's tool to mold the softhearted Lin Hai Qing into someone vicious. She was threatened to push Lin Hao Qing over the cliff or she’ll die from the Bitter Frost. She held on for two days, but one sentence made her do it: If she didn’t do it, he’d find someone else. But Yun He was still hesitant at the cliff. Qing Shu used her powers to control Yun He’s hand and pushed him off. Yun He added spiteful remarks on her own. I think the extra remarks are her way of ending their friendship so that he’s not hurt over her betrayal(s) anymore.

Lin Hao Qing knew everything. Surprise! Back then, after the cliff fall, Yun He had helped him by throwing fruits that repelled snakes. He also saw her suffering from the Bitter Frost. The only way to protect Yun He was to be her enemy and be vicious, the way his father liked it.

[Ep10] A summary thus far: Yun He thought she fooled everyone, ah! but Lin Hao Qing knew! Lin Hao Qing thought he fooled everyone, but ohlala! the Valley Master knew. He is the big boss. But the big boss is dying. He’s using himself as the last chess piece to turn his son into a savage. Qing Shu suggests telling Lin Hao Qing the truth before it’s too late but Valley Master is determined even if his son will never know he loved him.

Lin Hao Qing offers an alliance with Yun He to take down his father (which is actually Valley Master's intention). He reveals he knew that the push from the cliff wasn’t her intention. After all these years, the misunderstanding is cleared! Dun dun dun! And Yun He’s expression is like Okay, cool. Yun He has a condition. She wants to leave the valley with Chang Yi. Lin Hao Qing will consider it. And they team up anyway.

Luo Luo, in her best menacing form, bullies Chang Yi. With her sleeves rolled up and hands on waist, she demands Chang Yi to sleep in a fish bowl (a bathtub). No more sleeping with Yun He! Also, anything he wants, he must pay with Sprite Rocks. Yun He drags Chang Yi away and ignores Luo Luo’s unreasonable demands.
Yun He shares a yam with Chang Yi. It’s hot and so she blows on it in this weird angle. Chang Yi helps her blow on it too also in this other weird angle. Set! They’re in position to kiss. Shocked at the proximity (exactly 1 standard yam distance), Yun He quickly pulls back. Chang Yi thinks she burned her lips. He touches it softly, because touching it lightly will make the pain go away. She taught him that. Then she accidentally drops the yam on his crotch. It’s burning hot down there. Touching it lightly, will make the pain go away? Lol. Chang Yi wants her to use that touching magic...heh. Luo Luo interrupts to save Yun He.

Luo Luo graciously gives Chang Yi books related to the ocean to cheer him up. Yun He compliments Luo Luo that one of these days she’ll find a good man to love (too). Stringy Luo Luo doesn’t need a man because a man won’t bring her Rocks. But there is a man who will tempt her with Pearls! Chang Yi wants to know why Yun He disappears every night (she’s training with Lin Hao Qing to defeat the Valley Master). Our money-grubber Luo Luo promised Yun He to keep the secret, but her end of the promise was not to tell Chang Yi. Luo Luo can still nod and shake her head. Through Luo Luo, Chang Yi is convinced Lin Hao Qing is threatening Yun He every night. Luo Luo gives up talking and casts a sleeping wing-dust on Chang Yi but he reflects it back on her. Luo Luo faints and drops to the ground, haha

Chang Yi learns the real reason Yun He trains with Lin Hao Qing. Chang Yi doesn't like her touching another guy. In fact, he doesn’t want her touching anyone but him. Yun He pats his head, promising to reserve her magic just for him.

Chang Yi has a way to contribute to defeating the Valley Master. But first and foremost – Wardrobe! Yun He customized a set of clothes for him. Chang Yi is like I look good so no matter what I wear I still look good. Yun He laughs at his narcissism. Chang Yi is confused. She’s the one who keeps telling him he looks good.

[Ep11] Valley Master (who can stand) threatens Lin Hao Qing to kill him or else he’ll ruin Wanhua Valley and kill Yun He. Desperately, Lin Hao Qing attacks and then realizes his father has contradicted the Bitter Frost poison too. No antidote will work on him. His dying words: In order to win, anyone can be killed and anyone can be manipulated. The Valley Master wants Lin Hao Qing to be strong to defeat his enemies. Qing Shu dies with the Valley Master. Before she dies, she tells Lin Hao Qing the answers to all his questions are in the secret chamber. This secret better make me understand why the son had to kill the father and why the father had to torture the son

Li Shu didn’t die. Cats have nine lives. Hul. However, he's too weak to take physical form. The Phoenix will help, but he’s not to meet Xue San Yue in the meantime. Xue San Yue is still depressed and angered. She both loves and hates Li Shu.

Lin Hao Qing enters the chamber. The secret is that the Bitter Frost isn’t the Valley Master’s creation and the solution requires Yun He.

[Ep12] Lin Hao Qing goes back on his words: he's not freeing Yun He and captures Chang Yi. He tells Yun He the truth. It is the Celestial Master (Ru Ling’s Master) who is controlling all of Wanhua Valley with Bitter Frost. He annihilated (most of) Lin Family but the Valley Master (Lin) chose to surrender. All these years the Valley Master was experimenting with Yun He's body to find the antidote and so Lin Hao Qing needs to continue using her. She’s the only one who survived having two Sprite Spirits pulsating in her body. Confirmed. Yun He is the fittest lab rat. However, it seems that even Yun He cannot survive. She only has one month left.

Ru Ling is here to pick up her pretty pet, Chang Yi. He also learns Yun He fulfilled three conditions (e.g. removing his tail) for Ru Ling and yet, Chang Yi still trusts Yun He. For her safety, Chang Yi will obediently leave with Ru Ling.

Currently, Chang Yi is imprisoned in the cave. Yun He promises him they’ll find a way to leave together, but he needs to escape first. She tells him to take out the Mermaid Pearl from her body in case he needs it to protect himself. She closes her eyes, ready for the Pearl-removal-technique (= kiss). Chang Yi leans in, but rather than kissing her, he whispers in her ear, “Your acting is worsening each day.” He’s not taking out the Mermaid Pearl. In fact he locks it in tighter. It’s his promise to her. There are no take-backs. He knows she’s lying about escaping with him. He won’t leave without her. But she shakes off his hand. Yun He knows she doesn’t have time left. There is no future for her. For the days afterward, she refuses to see him.

Chang Yi makes a request to Ji Cheng Yu (Ru Ling’s shixiong, senior disciple). He wants to see Ru Ling.

[Ep13] Chang Yi beautifully sings (lip-syncs) a song to Ru Ling. In return, he asks for a request: to free Yun He. But Ru Ling wants his Mermaid Pearl more because she must have thought that lip-syncing was totally insincere too. He says it will take a while. The pearl holds the mermaid’s deepest sentiments. It can never be taken back and it signifies that he’ll never turn his back on her. He only hopes that the pearl holder’s wishes come true. All these words and that song was for Yun He, who is listening and crying because of his sincerity. Love has made her blind deaf. Can’t even tell lip-syncing from real singing

(Me thinking of Ep1..His speech right now sounds so hypocritical, lol. I get that he was betrayed, but I can't help but scoff that he's going to eat his words.)

Yun He wants to use the last of her days to give Chang Yi freedom. It’s what she wanted most and although she never got it, she wants Chang Yi to be free. But he wants to be with her. Drama people never listen to what the other person wants. She asks Lin Hao Qing for help. He agrees, but also vows (to himself) that he will protect Yun He and won’t let her die.

Before the escape, some requisite romance! Let’s go on a date! Yun He will buy! buy! buy! for the man she loves. If he wants it, she’ll get it. Chang Yi wants a fish jade for her and a human jade for himself. The store-owner doesn’t allow it. How can a fish pair with a human! Plus what will happen to the remaining fish and human they're not buying? Yun He pays for everything and lets the passersby pick and choose. Her condition is that each pair of jade that’s bought has to be different. At the end Yun He and Chang Yi don’t keep their jades. Because. I don’t know

Chang Yi thinks Yun He is like the wind (re. Ep1). Whoosh and she’ll be gone

And what is a costume drama date without the night lantern festival?

There happens a night lantern festival.

[Ep14] Lin Hao Qing never intended to help Yun He with Chang Yi’s escape. Surprise! Lin Hao Qing frees Chang Yi knowing that he’d go back to find Yun He. And here comes her requisite spiteful words to make him give up on her: “I was only nice to you because I needed you,” “Useless piece of junk,” “Screw off, don’t bother me anymore,” “Just thinking of your big tail makes me puke.” Is love shattered just like that? Nope. She cuts the red string connecting them, she stabs him in the chest and finally, she pushes him off the cliff. Drama stats. Falling off the cliff has a 100% survival rate.
Chang Yi looks betrayed through and through. Chang Yi, you’re the one who said what matters is the truth in the heart and not the words of the mouth...I hope you remember that....
Ru Ling orders her men to kill Yun He. Those hats. If they wanted to fly, they could have just worn a kite. Yun He protects the mouth of the cliff to protect Chang Yi who just fell off because even she knows cliff falls don’t kill. Oh wait, is there water down there? No matter how many hits to Yun He, she comes back standing. She’s almost zombie-like. Her carotid arteries twist and bulge beneath her skin.
When it seems like Yun He is finished, she resurrects into a new being! She’s a nine-tailed fox! Feng Jiu, is that you? Is Yun He’s consciousness still there? No clue. She attacks Ru Ling. Nothing can stop Yun He! Ah, but the Celestial Master can. He arrived from nowhere. Yun He faints. The Celestial Master keeps Yun He because he finds her interesting. She’s a sprite but not a sprite, a fox but not a fox. Clearly, she’s a lab rat

[Ep15] Yun He’s nine-tailed fox transformation seems to be conceived from Valley Master’s experiment of combining energy from a celestial sprite and earth sprite. She’s currently imprisoned at Mount Lutai.

Chang Yi is found by a subordinate (Luo Suo, which sounds like long-winded/naggy in Chinese). Our Chang Yi is of royalty. His father is the ruler of the East Oceans. Kong Ming, a randomly wandering ex-disciple of the Celestial Master, heals Chang Yi from his injuries. Kong Ming will do anything just to thwart Celestial Master’s plans and he wants to team up with Chang Yi.

Celestial Prince wants to take back his older sister, Ru Ling, from Celestial Master’s “care”. But it seems he’s too weak and can’t resist Celestial Master even if he’s a prince. His father, the Celestial Emperor, is absent somewhere. Dead? Alive? In a trial? Stuck in an orb? The princess is spoiled by the Celestial Master and can’t see his greed.

Note: I’m sticking with Celestial Prince/Master/Princess just to identify them as spiritual beings from the Sky/Heavenly realm. Yun He and co are from Earth/Ground.

[Ep16] Yun He’s Bitter Frost poison is gone! Valley Master’s experiment was a success. The two (conflicting) sprite energies in Yun He didn’t destroy her, it gave her life. She is the first to survive the Bitter Frost. Yun He laughs hysterically. After she killed the heart of the man she loves, she was ready to die, but now she can’t. Is fate messing with her?

Ru Ling orders her men to capture Chang Yi. His pearl (a-freaking-nother pearl) within his heart was almost crushed, which would have cost him his life. I need a guide on Mermans. Drama can’t be springing up these random pearls all the time! An orbed staff saves him from nowhere. It’s from his father, or the spirit of him. Where is he, though? Father says that wherever water is, is where father is. Where there’s wifi, cynlynn is with you too

Chang Yi, who’s vengeful, allies with Kong Ming. He can’t let the Celestial Sprites take advantage of them. He needs to attack to defend his people.

Lin Hao Qing knows the cure for Bitter Frost but it’s an infeasible treatment. Two lives (Valley Master and Qing Shu) were used up to save one. He needs to find a new cure.

Ru Ling smugly tells Yun He that she killed Chang Yi’s father because he attacked her after she kidnapped Chang Yi. Ru Ling wants to anger Yun He because she’s jealous. She thinks Yun He is her love rival for the Celestial Master. Oh ew, no. Girl, he’s all yours

[Ep17] Lin Hao Qing resurrects Si Yu. Technically, he didn’t kill her. Injuring her was to protect her. Moving along. He needs someone he can trust to find another cure. Si Yu vows to be like Qing Shu. Lin Hao Qing doesn’t want that. Qing Shu died for his father. But Si Yu says her only wish is to accompany Lin Hao Qing.

Chang Yi and Kong Ming are gathering allies. When there’s time to rest, Chang Yi’s thoughts are this: [read with bitter tone] “Yun He, I’ll never forgive you.” Meanwhile Yun He’s thoughts are this: “Sorry”. Whoops, not forgiven

Chang Yi saves Qing Yao (fox sprite). She kinda fancies him. Their clan is endangered because Zhu Ling (Master of another sect) is barbarously capturing sprites to please the celestials. Qing Yao's father is captured.

The Phoenix resurrects Li Shu’s physical form about 80-90%. Li Shu also requests for some plastic surgery, like Chang Yi’s eyes, or something like that. Pft. Jokes aside, he asks if there’s news about Xue San Yue, who left to find spiritual herbs for him. Nope. The Phoenix assures him that without the herbs, she can still cure him. She advises him to hope less. That way the disappointment will be less too.

But Xue San Yue is back! And she’s injured. The Phoenix sent her on errands that tested her love. Those spiritual herbs were guarded by ferocious beasts, but she still retrieved them. Xue San Yue explains that she owed Li Shu a life. She doesn’t like owing people. With that, she leaves without seeing Li Shu, but she stays at a nearby cave to wait for the Phoenix’s updates.

The herbs help Li Shu recover 100%. But now it’s Xue San Yue who collapses. Her Bitter Frost is acting up. Did she see Li Shu before her eyes closed? Li Shu, who just recovered, absorbs the Bitter Frost from her body. Xue San Yue is cured. I don’t know if it’s a complete cure. Now it’s Li Shu who suffers from the Bitter Frost. What’s with these sacrifices!!!!!

[Ep18] Xue San Yue wakes up and thinks she dreamed of seeing Li Shu. It can’t be him. She’s certain he only cares about the Phoenix. Meanwhile, Li Shu is with the Phoenix. She cures him. Hm. Is this how the Bitter Poison is cured? Did Li Shu take in all the poison or just the temporary pain of the poison? Show, explain. Don’t just miraculously cure something. Then she tells him to scram to Xue San Yue. Li Shu is afraid of rejection, though. He’d rather stay at her side, inconspicuously. But the Phoenix provokes him by telling him Xue San Yue is heading back to Wanhua Valley where she’s a fugitive. Off he goes to protect her!

Xue San Yue steals the “antidote” for her Bitter Frost. Was I not paying attention or where did this pill come from? They just found it? Huh. Lin Hao Qing is after her. Li Shu protects her. She collapses before seeing him again. He feeds her the pill, but then he faints too (from over-exhaustion?). The Phoenix saves them both again

Yun He trains her powers. Meanwhile, the sprites who were ordered to torture her are putting on a show (of screams) to help Yun He fool Ru Ling. (Ru Ling had thought these sprites would hate Yun He for caging them, but actually, they’re grateful and they idolize her.)

Ji Cheng Yu gives Yun He clothes (because Dilireba gotta look pretty, lol) and kindly helps her rid the sprites. Thanks man, for your act of unnecessary kindness

During a fight to save Qing Yao’s father, Chang Yi traps Ru Ling. Although she's down, she’s ecstatic to learn that Chang Yi hates Yun He and shares how she wants her dead. Chang Yi bitterly declares that only he can kill Yun He. No one else can. He aims a sword at Ru Ling, but her slimy servant dies for her.

[Ep19] Yun He captures Ru Ling but Celestial Master saves her. He does it long-distance. He’s in the Sky Realm vacuuming Ru Ling back up. Chang Yi is no match against the vacuum. His Heart Pearl shatters a bit more.

Yun He mastered her powers. She walks out of prison. Legit. Was she self-imprisoning herself the whole time? Show should have said so.  Then she walks into the Celestial Master’s bedroom and then walks into his secret chamber. Inside, there’s a portrait that looks like Ru Ling, but it can’t be Ru Ling because why would he need pictures when the person is right there. This logic is a bit of stretch.... Yun He notices something is odd with the picture. Before she investigates further, Celestial Master walks her back to the prison.

The Celestial Master returns to his chamber. He speaks to the portrait, and a dark spirit (not the lady of the picture) replies that he’s sick of being detained in this small room. They have a deal. Celestial Master promises that chaos will arrive soon.

Chang Yi faints from his shattered Heart Pearl. Qing Yao’s father is reluctant to save Chang Yi because it will expend their spiritual powers. Qing Yao lies that she and Chang Yi are in love. The father gives in. Chang Yi is healed. As a result, Qing Yao’s spiritual powers are greatly reduced.

Through a game of chess, Yun He learns the Celestial Master’s grand plan is to create a chaos.

[Ep20] Yun He and Celestial Prince form an alliance to take down the Celestial Master. They’ll need the Phoenix’s help. She asks him to seek Luo Luo who can help with that.

Li Shu is still doing his inconspicuous thing with Xue San Yue. The Phoenix can’t stand it that he’s such a coward and exposes his hiding spot. Xue San Yue finally sees him. He explains that he’s hiding because he’s afraid, afraid that even if he exposes his sincerity, she’d still reject him. Well, she rejects him. He destroyed her faith in him. She won’t believe another word. She just wants to kill him. Li Shu closes his eyes, ready for death. Xue San Yue summons her sword and plunges, but it’s just a poke on the chest. She can’t kill him, but she calls them even now. To Xue San Yue, the Li Shu she loved was her pet cat and her cat died when he saved the Phoenix.

Li Shu is also of royalty, a Cat Prince!! Li Shu tells Xue San Yue that he has to leave to his clan, but if she asks him to stay, he’ll stay. She clenches her basket, and ignores him. When Xue San Yue regrets it, he’s gone. The Phoenix is there, though, and tells Xue San Yue everything that Li Shu did for her.

As Li Shu slowly, ever so slowly, makes his way down the mountain, he meets Kong Ming. They brace for battle, but Xue San Yue appears to save him!

[Ep21] Kong Ming recognizes Xue San Yue by the Snowflake on the nape of her neck. Wait. Did the pill she stole work or not? Drama, I don’t get it! He asks to be allies against the Celestial Realm. However, Xue San Yue wants to find Yun He first. Before she leaves, Li Shu asks if she’s here because she misses him. In a cold tone, she replies, “I just don’t like people touching my things.” She smiles and leaves.
This is Kong Ming
Luo Luo meets Kong Ming. They fight for liquor, which is to please the Phoenix (because they both want her alliance). They end up shutting themselves in a freezing cave. She’s cold and attempts to hug him for some warmth.  She tells him, “If love can warm me up, I can love you too.” O_O. Since he won’t hug her, she steals the liquor to warm herself up and since he won’t drink it, gracious Luo Luo will him with her mouth. Nooooooo!!! He faints from the kiss. Luo Luo is confused. Was the alcohol that strong? She touches his cheek and it’s burning. Luo Luo loves the heat eating from his body and opens his shirt to lie her cheek on his chest. I’m crying. Then his body emits Yang Energy (the masculine energy, whatever you’re thinking is right). Through her lips, she sucks in his energy (because it’s warm???). In a daze, he sees her floating above him, and pulls her down to kiss her. This is so painful to watch T_____TWhen he wakes up in the morning, he’s surprised to find her lying on top of him. He flings her off.

Xue San Yue and Li Shu save Luo Luo and Kong Ming from the cave, but now they have no wine to please the Phoenix. Luo Luo fixes that. She’s a butterfly that can perform vinification, but ultimately what convinces the Phoenix is how Luo Luo’s loyalty to Yun He reminds her of Nin Ruo Chu. The Phoenix promises to help.

A drunk Luo Luo bidongs Kong Ming. She’s addicted to his Yang Energy. Li Shu asks Xue San Yue if they should save Kong Ming from Luo Luo. Save Hu Yi Xuan!! T_T. Xue San Yue makes the move and interrupts by asking Luo Luo if she wants to join her in saving Yun He. Luo Luo snaps back to her senses. She almost forgot her priority. She pushes Kong Ming away. YES. PUSH HIM AWAY! Xue San Yue, I love you even more now. Li Shu wants to join but Xue San Yue tells the guys to stay behind.

[Ep22] As the Phoenix distracts the Celestial Master, Yun He manages to make a crack in the barrier. Our butterfly, Luo Luo, fits through the opening. The girls hug! The end! The OTP is right here! Yun He can’t escape yet. She instructs Luo Luo to save the imprisoned sprites.

Chang Yi learns Yun He freed the sprites. He goes to find her.
Ru Ling also learns Yun He freed the sprites. She goes to kill her. But not with Yun He's nine tails! Ah, but her powers are dysfunctional. She can’t control it. But she can summon a sword to protect herself. Ru Ling whips it away, but the sword slices her face, ruining her beauty. Ru Ling’s wrath consumes her. She’s this close to killing Yun He, but the magnificent Chang Yi descends to save Yun He. He’s not happy to see her though. He glares at her sorry state and then sets Ru Ling on fire.

Chang Yi (to Ru Ling): I said it before. Ji Yun He’s life – only I can touch.

Chang Yi takes Yun He away. Lin Hao Qing is at the foot of the mountain and realizes he’s late to save her. But he manages to zip in to save Ru Ling. I swear Lin Hao Qing was still on some random mountain a second ago.  But then the Fox clan surrounds Lin Hao Qing and Ru Ling. In the midst of the fight, the Celestial Master returns to protect her. I guess the Phoenix is down? He’s enraged at the sight of Ru Ling’s distorted face, the only thing he cares about. Celestial Master wants to chase down the fox clan, but Celestial Prince orders him to stop. It’s a power struggle between the Master and the Prince. Who will the soldiers obey? But then the Celestial Emperor (from the tree) sends a medallion to his son. The medallion represents the Emperor. Everyone obeys the medallion. Am I right to say that if this medallion thing had happened earlier then all of these fights wouldn’t have been unnecessary.... The dark spirit in the painting is furious that the world isn’t in a chaos yet. Grr! Who?

Chang Yi learns of Yun He’s condition (the dual pulse). She tells him she doesn’t have much longer to live. He’s seething with anger. Yun He doesn’t understand his fury. Shouldn’t he be happy? Gee. I wonder why! And why did he use his pearl to save him? I’ve lost count of all the pearls. What pearl is this now?

Chang Yi: From now on your life is mine. You can only die if I let you die.
Yun He: You’re quite overbearing now. No one can bully you then. But I still have to correct you. My life will always be mine. In the past it was, in the present it is, in the future it will also be, and even if it’s you, you can’t say such words.
Chang Yi: Whatever you want to say. I’m not giving you the right to choose.

Yun He asks him to retreat. Don’t fall into the Celestial Master’s trap of creating chaos. She asks to be free, she has another mission. Not happening. He’s hers now. He takes her to an iceland in Northern. Yuan. It’s not the start of her freedom. Chang Yi will use his own method to have her accountable for all her past lies and deceit. He locks her up. Yun He has always been captive from beginning to end

Part 2

[Ep23] The aftermath of the “battle” (where I barely saw any fight):
  • Qing Yao’s father (fox leader) is dying. Chang Yi puts him on magical life support.
  • During the Phoenix’s fight with Celestial Master, he ditched halfway and injured her. She’s okay though.
  • Ru Ling wakes up. Her face is bandaged. The Celestial Master treats her wound. The process is painful but the Celestial Master only cares about her face.
Yun He is weak and recovering. When she wakes up, she realizes she’s imprisoned by Chang Yi. From one prison she went to another prison. At least there’s snow. Chang Yi visits her. Without a smile and without any warmth, he forces her to drink her medication. Before he departs, he gives her a starry sky.

A servant bullies Yun He. Chang Yi punishes the servant and throws her out the window, lolMan, that’s something we all want to do to annoying characters. Chang Yi forces Yun He to drink her medicine.

Chang Yi: You will not die. When I want to torment you, you must live.
Yun He (in her thoughts)Silly fish. I get to see you while I take my medication everyday, how is that torment? This is the greatest kindness bestowed to me in my entire life

The bullying servant tells Qing Yao that Yun He has powers from their fox clan, and it’s the Red Fox Fire, unique to their aunt, Qing Shu. Qing Yao is led to believe Yun He killed their aunt. (No, your aunt gave up her life for the Valley Master out of love).

Lin Hao Qing visits the Celestial Realm to search for the antidote. He finds the Celestial Master’s secret chamber too. What kind of crappy secret room is this. Everyone just walks in there. Ah, but it’s actually the dark spirit in the portrait who allowed Lin Hao Qing to enter.

[Ep24] The Dark Spirit wants chaos and reminds the Celestial Master that they signed a blood contract. If he breaks it, he’ll die. I just learned that his name is Ning Qing. Is he related to Ning Ruo Chu? He also can’t seal/kill the spirit, because the Dark Spirit gave him his powers. Once the spirit is gone, so are the powers of the Celestial Master.

Qing Yao wants to kill Yun He! Chang Yi stops her and tells her the truth that Qing Shu gave up her life for love.

Yun He has an explosive respiratory reaction = coughing. Chang Yi uses his magic to soothe her. The pearl within her flashes. Chang Yi flinches at the sight. He clenches his fist and asks what happened after the cliff fall. Yun He doesn’t tell him. She asks him to release her. Since her days are numbered, she wants to see the world. That’s not the answer Chang Yi wants and so he won’t give her what she wants either. Forgive then, they’re like 5. If she wants it, then she’ll have to kill him for it. Yun He loses her smile. He leaves her in a heartbreak. Yun He doesn’t want to tell him the truth precisely because her days are numbered. Since he already hates her, then let him hate her. Isn’t it better that way? I dunno, gurl. Does he look happy to you? Do you look happy to yourself?

Kong Ming urges Chang Yi to let Yun He go. They have greater plans ahead. Chang Yi can’t let her go. He can give up anyone and anything, but only her, he cannot.

Luo Luo begs the Phoenix to save Yun He from her imprisonment. The Phoenix clarifies it's a knot between Yun He and Chang Yi. Others cannot intervene. It’s not a knot where the solution is simply releasing Yun He or not. Luo Luo doesn’t get it. The Phoenix smirks. It’s better Luo Luo doesn’t get it. I agree! Luo Luo, you don’t need love! Luo Luo pouts and then moves on to Kong Ming for help. GAH. She tugs at his collar and once he melts at her cuteness, Luo Luo tackles him so that he’s under her. She searches his body for the key, but Chang Yi interrupts. Oh, but hey, Yun He escapes on her own. From afar, Chang Yi senses the barrier has broken. Luo Luo stops Chang Yi from finding Yun He, but he cuffs her to Kong Ming.

Yun He runs freely in the wild, smiling brighter than ever at her freedom. But actually Yun He knows she hasn’t escaped from Chang Yi. He’s already here.

Yun He begs: Free me...and free yourself
Chang Yi: Your freedom, I won’t give you. Your absolve, I also won’t give you. You can only be in my hands, unable to go anywhere.

Then he pulls her close and bites her ear. He left an imprint there.

Chang Yi: I want you to remember, from as high as the sky, as wide as the sea, and as deep as the underworld, I will make it so you cannot survive anywhere other than at my side. (From Ep1 prologue)

This imprint to mermaids is meaningful. Chang Yi has one too since he imprinted Yun He. It connects their five senses. This means her pain is his pain. Okay, so can he sense her love?! Otherwise what a useless imprint.

Li Shu sighs after hearing about the imprinting. It’s time to tutor his disciple. Oh right, Li Shu is his Love Master.  He tells Chang Yi of a saying “don’t hang and die on one tree.” He’s not telling him to try more trees (girls), after all, finding a tree that they want to protect with all their life isn’t easy, but don’t bind that tree so that it dies. Li Shu tells him the way he loves Xue San Yue is to respect her space. If she hates him, he’ll back off. But for Chang Yi, he’s restricting her freedom, especially when freedom to Yun He means more than her life. Li Shu advises Chang Yi to take a step back.

[Ep25] Li Shu tells Chang Yi to ask his heart if he loves Yun He. (And if he loves, he’d want her to be happy). Genius

Luo Luo tries to run away, but the more force she applies, the stronger she rebounds back into Kong Ming’s arm. I’m not typing this shit anymore. At one point, she’s like What happens if you pull me into your heart? And then he’s like Did you lose your brain? Clearly. And that’s all I’m typing.

Let’s cleanse our eyes. Xue San Yue finds all the medicine/food that Li Shu prepared for her. She smiles beautifully at the thought of Li Shu while he’s admiring her. She catches him staring and asks about the conversation with Chang Yi. Li Shu sighs that Chang Yi is in denial and so is Yun He. They love each other, but they won't say it. Xue San Yue is equally guilty of this and she knows it. She opens up and tells him she doesn’t hate him. She just doesn’t know how to restart. She knows she was too cruel to him when he tried so hard. She tells him he doesn’t owe her anything anymore. She wants him to be happy. She confesses her love straightforwardly. He hugs her tightly.

Lin Hao Qing brings painkillers for Ru Ling and the painful truth that the Celestial Master only cares about her face. Otherwise why wouldn’t he care when she’s in so much pain? Ru Ling is in denial but she has an awareness of it too.

Qing Yao nominates Chang Yi to be the leader of Northern Yuan. He takes it. … I don’t really know what Chang Yi did to deserve everyone’s loyalty…lol. Did he battle the Celestial Master? I believe he ditched to save a girl. Also Kong Ming was with him every step of the way and he’s more powerful. Why isn’t he nominated? Because he’s not the ML (and better looking). Got it.

Yun He tells Chang Yi that if the cliff fall didn’t happen, she could have really, really loved him. Chang Yi finds Yun He’s confession peculiar. It is. Yun He plans to die from carbon monoxide poisoning. Everything is set. Chang Yi is away at his coronation. By the time he learns it, she’ll have passed away,
Ah, here is where the imprint is handy! Chang Yi detects her distress signal and ditches the ceremony.

Yun He is currently in a dream. A lady (who looks like Ru Ling) tells her she can’t leave. And so Yun He wakes up. Chang Yi is
furious she attempted suicide. She tries to steal his hairpin to stab herself. He restrains her wrist and her neck to stop her. With her throat in his hands, she begs him to just kill her.

It hurts Chang Yi that Yun He would rather choose death than stay with him. He begs Kong Ming to treat her. Also, to prevent anymore suicide attempts, Chang Yi moves in with Yun He and now the only space left for her privacy is her bed.

[Ep26] Kong Ming assesses Yun He and she has a month to live. However, it sounds like he has a way to save her, it’s just he’s not sharing it because she’s a distraction to Chang Yi. Also, Kong Ming knows that Yun He is distancing herself from Chang Yi to protect him, but Kong Ming won’t tell Chang Yi. Dude? His logic: world peace > romance. What about both?

Ru Ling finds the picture and learns she’s a replacement for her Celestial Master, but even with proof, she’s in denial.

Yun He worries about Chang Yi who hasn’t slept (for one night). She wants him to rest and so she asks him if she treated him like before, would he listen to her. He says no. She gently touches his arm and asks him to try. You never know if you don’t try. He glances at her hand that’s on touching his, and then at her. Chang Yi flexes his jaws. If she wants to try, then he’ll try with her. He swoops in to kiss her. Bubble fishes form in the air, and they’re kissing too. And then Kong Ming interrupts.

When Yun He is alone, she's flustered about the kiss. Doesn't he hate her? Meanwhile Chang Yi is distracted during a meeting with Kong Ming. He’s shyly reminiscing about the kiss.

Chang Yi takes a moment to gather himself before he enters his chamber. Right off the bat, Yun He asks him about the kiss. He reminds her she’s the one who initiated. She’s like Isn’t it against the rules that you, mermen, kiss your enemies? He denies breaking any rule. Yun He was always his. The ear imprint is special to mermen. It allows him to connect with her no matter where she is and only the chosen person will be imprinted. Yun He asks him what he takes her for. Yun He, a pea-sized brain is enough to figure it out! Are you dumb or are you dumb? Prompted by her stupid question, he angrily replies that she is only his caged beast. Thus, Yun He is convinced that he’s given up love just to imprison her.

Luo Luo begs the Phoenix to save Yun He. With Li Shu, the best mediator around, Phoenix is convinced and Chang Yi permits them to visit Yun He. The Phoenix diagnoses Yun He and concludes it’s meaningless to save her. The longer she lives, the more painful her days are.

Chang Yi hasn’t seen Yun He this happy in a long while. He remembers Li Shu’s words (to love is to make her happy). Finally, he removes the barrier that’s isolating Yun He.

Consistency is a problem in this drama and particularly this episode.
  • If every doctor says that treating Yun He will only put her through more pain, then show pain, and not be weak and frail.
  • If Kong Ming is against the relationship between Yun He and Chang Yi, then he shouldn’t be lightly teasing Chang Yi about the kiss. He might as well just tell Chang Yi the truth about Yun He’s love.
  • If Yun He was going to make Chang Yi hate her (since she only has a month left) then she shouldn't have initiated the touch and then asked him why he kissed her.
  • If Show decided to portray Yun He as a sprite master with high EQ, please don’t make her stupid now. Kissing = I hate you? Please.
[Ep27] Luo Luo can freely visit Yun He. Meanwhile Xue San Yue has left to retrieve a lingzhi to treat Yun He (to let her live for a few more painful days). Li Shu was supposed to stay to tame Chang Yi, but the Phoenix urges him to chase after his love since he’s so antsy anyway. Luo Luo whines. Who will control Chang Yi then? How will they treat Yun He? The Phoenix reminds her there’s also Kong Ming.

Luo Luo finds Kong Ming and offers her help in prepping medication for Yun He. He says it’s hard. One can’t even blink while preparing for it! And so Luo Luo doesn’t even blink while fanning the pot. Her eyes even tear up.

Lin Hao Qing wants the powers granted by Ru Ling to battle Northern Yuan (which is supposed to help him find the antidote......). Ru Ling has a condition: kill Yun He. She wants her eyeball so that she can step on it like a grape. With her foot stepping on Lin Hao Qing’s face, she asks if he can obey her. Lin Hao Qing gently touches her foot and removes the piece of grape. He will obey. Phew. I thought he was going to kiss her foot or something. When his followers learn they’re to battle Northern Yuan, they call him one of Ru Ling’s dogs.

Luo Luo and Kong Ming romancing.

Chang Yi supervises Yun He’s medication intake. He doesn’t tell her he personally found the herbs for her.

Xue San Yue finds the lingzhi. The Celestial Prince, who’s training in the area, stops her from taking it. The lingzhi has a life of its own. It cannot be forcefully plucked when it’s still immature and so Xue San Yue will guard the lingzhi until fruition.

Chang Yi brought sweetened garlic for Yun He. It’s her favourite, but he says it’s for himself. Smirking, Yun He tells him to eat it. He gulps and forces himself to swallow. His face scrunches. Yun He laughs at him. She stops teasing him. She has something for him too: a vest armour. She made it for him because of the potential battle with Lin Hao Qing. He warns her that something this small won’t work if she wants to pamper him. Oh rly? Yun He takes it back, but he quickly snatches it. He wants it.

[Ep28] The Celestial Prince’s confidante asks Xue San Yue to join them in their fight. Li Shu’s underlings misunderstand that she’s having a tryst with another man and calls her a hindrance who’s preventing Li Shu from returning to their clan. Angered, Xue San Yue puts a spell on Li Shu to prevent him from approaching her. But she’s also in serious contemplation. Is she really an obstacle for Li Shu’s future?

Yun He grows weaker after making the armour. She falls asleep and meets the Ru Ling lookalike in her dream. She exists wherever there’s wind. She shows Yun He the past. Ning Ruo Chu was Ning Qing's (Celestial Master) shixiong (senior). It was Ning Qing who taught Ning Ruo Chu to use the ten matrix and it was also him who killed Ning Ruo Chu.

Yun He can’t stay in the dream for too long. The longer she stays, the weaker she becomes. The Ru Ling lookalike (or should I say the original Ru Ling) wants Yun He to tell the Phoenix the truth. They must stop the Celestial Master. This is her atonement for her crime.

Chang Yi and Luo Luo are gravely concerned for Yun He. She finally wakes up. Luo Luo is at her side, but Chang Yi throws Luo Luo away. He pulls Yun He upward with his magnetic force and kisses her. He’s giving her his power through the pearl to help her recover. I don’t know if he gave her his Heart Pearl or strengthened the Mermaid Pearl in her. Show makes it sound like he gave her another pearl, but the Heart Pearl, from my understanding, is his life, so I don’t think he can give it away, but if we’re talking about the Mermaid Pearl, he already gave it to her. There’s more pearls??

Kong Ming hollers at Chang Yi. Is he seeking death? He’s the lord of Northern Yuan. Their land is in danger and here he’s giving all his powers to her? Does he want to die on the battlefield? Yun He wants him to take it back too. He shouldn’t be so hung up on hate. Hate?! How? What? Whatever.

Chang Yi: What I’m strongly attached to was never hate.
Yun He: Then what is it?
Chang Yi: What do you think it is?

How many episodes must the show drag this hate plot? She wants him to hate her, but then she'll be kind to him, and now she's clueless to his feelings

Lin Hao Qing finds a weakness in Chang Yi’s military tactic much thanks to Qing Yao’s idiotic cousin (Qi Feng). Lin Hao Qing sends Si Yu to make a condition: they want Yun He. Is this it to the battle? Breaking a barrier offscreen and now Lin Hao Qing has the upper-hand?? Chang Yi isn’t giving up on Yun He. He’s not giving anyone away even if it means war.

Yun He is proud of Chang Yi and his awe-inspiring authority. She won’t volunteer to leave. They’re in this battle together.

[Ep29] Yun He becomes Chang Yi’s strategist. Part of her plan is for Chang Yi to take back his pearl. Chang Yi thinks that’s her main goal – to get rid of the pearl. After he kisses her for the pearl (No take-backs, man), he asks if she’s really on his side. He yearns for her answer, but Luo Suo interrupts, nagging at Chang Yi to hurry up. Once again, Yun He had lied, or more like she didn't tell him the whole truth. Without his pearl, she'll be on the brink of dying. She wants to see the Original Ru Ling who she knows is Ning Xi Yu, Ning Ruo Chu and Ning Qing's (Celestial Master) master.

Ning Xi Yu tells Yun He the rest of the story. She was the leader of Wanhua Valley. She was banished for supporting Ning Ruo Chu and the Phoenix’s romance. The Lins of Wanhua Valley also wanted to oust her and eliminated her from their history books. When she left the valley, she lost half her powers. Ning Qing followed her. The two of them traveled the world together and tamed evil sprites. However, Ning Qing became more and more ruthless. Ning Xi Yu knows he wanted to power up to take back Wanhua Valley for her. One day they were overwhelmed by sprites. The Lins didn't help even when Ning Qing begged them. This is how Ning Xi Yu died. However, since she wrote so many travel logs with her energy, a strand of her spirit still exists with the wind. After Ning Xi Yu’s death, Ning Ruo Chu blamed everyone: Ning Ruo Chu and the Phoenix’s romance started it; Lin Family kicked her out, evil sprites killed her. He wants the world to payWhat about Ning Qing, you? I think he’s the one who upset the sprites in the first place

Ning Xi Yu feels guilty since she’s the one who adopted him. Uh. I think that’s the reason........ She wants Yun He to tell Phoenix the truth because only she can fight Ning Qing. It seems Ning Xi Yu can only speak to Yun He because neither of them are supposed to exist and yet they both love this world. Yun He promises to help.

When Yun He wakes up, Chang Yi is kissing her. He's returning the pearl. Kong Ming worriedly rushes over, demanding Chang Yi for his reasons in sending Luo Luo to battle. Yun He assures him that Luo Luo is fine. She’s with the Phoenix (and they captured Lin Hao Qing). Kong Ming retorts, Of course you're not worried. Your merman is standing right here. Kong Ming slipped up, but Chang Yi didn't get it.

Yun He visits Lin Hao Qing. She speaks up for Chang Yi’s benevolence. Under his ruling, sprite masters will be protected. Yun He seems to have convinced Lin Hao Qing for a truce.

Chang Yi is jealous. He doesn’t want Yun He to visit Lin Hao Qing anymore (he wasn't listening to their conversation). He’s triggered that she's nice to everyone but him. He wants her to tell him she never betrayed him. As long as there’s a bit of truth, then he can believe in anything she says. But Yun He won’t say it. Why? Rewind back to the conversation with Lin Hao Qing. Yun He had promised to escape with him. She knows Ru Ling wants her life, and if leaving will bring peace, then it’s worth it. Lin Hao Qing gives Yun He powers to block the imprint for two hours. What happened to being in this together? Sigh.

Elsewhere, Li Shu disturbs the immature lingzhi. A deadly bolt of lightning is coming down.

[Ep30] Celestial Prince uses his seal to block the lightning strike and saves Li Shu and Xue San Yue. The seal shatters into pieces! The good thing is a secret map is revealed from the pieces. Oh, and the lingzhi is ready. Time to save Yun He!

But Yun He is in danger. Her and Lin Hao Qing’s escape is caught by the Fox King, Qing Yao, and Qi Feng (the annoying cousin). Fox King attacks Yun He, misunderstanding that she killed Qing Shu. Fortunately, her nine tails protect her, which is a sign that Qing Shu willingly gave up her powers. The Fox King’s attack rebounds and now he’s in critical condition.

Chang Yi arrives in time to save Yun He, but he feels betrayed. Also, peace talks are pretty much over.

The dying Fox King reminds Chang Yi of the favour he owes for saving his life. He wants Chang Yi to kill Yun He. He also reveals that Qing Yao used half her powers to save him. He wants Chang Yi to protect Qing Yao and Northern Yuan. How many favours is that? The Fox King dies.

Chang Yi doesn’t kill Yun He. He’ll do anything but kill Yun He. To appease Qing Yao, he gives her half his powers which is enough to protect herself. As for Northern Yuan, he’ll continue to protect it. This way, their debts are cleared. This is what the Fox King gets for being greedy with his favours

Although Chang Yi protected Yun He, he won’t visit her even if Yun He is asking for it. He kicks out Luo Luo, the messenger. She cries. Kong Ming wipes away her tears. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻He promises to help Luo Luo, but then he goes to speak with Yun He instead. He will help Yun He increase her powers (as per her request) which will use up her remaining life.

[Ep31] Wanhua Valley and Northern Yuan brace for battle! Ready, set – wait. Yun He arrives in the middle of the battle to mediate. Is it so hard to get a battle scene from this director!!!!!!! AH. Qing Yao also vows as the daughter of the Fox King to not seek revenge against Wanhua Valley.

After Yun He's super duper touching speech, all the Wanhua soldiers ally with (or surrender to) Northern Yuan. Their common enemy is Ru Ling and the Celestial Master.

To thwart the alliance, Zhu Ling (Ru Ling’s dog) activates everyone's Bitter Frost. The soldiers from Wanhua Valley crumble down in pain. Yun He flies up. She looks back wistfully at Chang Yi and then uses her powers to treat everyone. They’re all healed, but Yun He floats down. Chang Yi catches her. Is the Bitter Poison gone? But Si Yu and Lin Hao Qing weren’t in the scene. How are they healed?
Yun He is dying! Her hand reaches up to pat Chang Yi's head. It's their "touching and feeling better” trick. Then Yun He enters a dream world. She tells him the truth which she hid from him because she was afraid that everything she did was wrong from the beginning, including making the decision for him, and pushing him away. She tells him to forget her. But that was all in her dreams.

Yun He's hand drops. Her eyes close. Her ear imprint disappears. Chang Yi cries. Pearls fall from his eyes. Chang Yi is in denial. He's certain she's lying to him. She's always been lying to him. Luo Luo pushes him away to take back Yun He. Luo Luo blames him for mistreating her when she was alive. He knew she didn't mean those harsh words so why couldn’t he give in first? He knew she loved to see the world but why must he imprison her?

Chang Yi takes Yun He back inside. He cries. All he wanted was to make her stay. He promises he won't torture her anymore. He begs her to not leave him behind. Chang Yi keeps her on magical life support.

Xue San Yue returns with the lingzhi and asks Luo Luo where Yun He is. Oof.

Yun He leaves a letter for the Phoenix, telling her the truth. She also wants her to plan carefully and not blindly avenge.

[Ep32] Chang Yi is still guarding Yun He's body. A breeze (Ning Xi Yu) sweeps a scroll to the floor. It's Yun He's letter for Chang Yi. She reminds him of their date in the human realm. Although their fate ended, there's thousands of couples out there. They may be ordinary, but they're part of this world. She wonders if she can 'become the wind' (長風; chang feng) to admire this beautifully ordinary world. Whether he sees her letter and reads her wishes will all depend on 'the will of the heavens" (天意; tian yi)I like the lines here. It's using their names. Becoming the wind combines Chang Yi's name with the metaphor he gave Yun He: Wind. (Also, her “Yun” means Cloud.) At the end, she says it all depends on heaven's will, which is using Chang Yi's name too, the second character. Ultimately, the fruition of her wish depends on Chang Yi

Chang Yi carries Yun He, who's in a red dress, wedding clothes? to the place he saw her at her freest. It’s the forest she ran away to. A tear drops from Chang Yi’s eyes and it's a red pearl! Then he lets Yun He's spirit disappear with the wind. She can travel the world now. He'll stay behind to protect the world for her.

Lin Hao Qing is released. He goes to the forest, searching for something. He finds Yun He! But she's a fox right now. She's alive because she has dual pulses. Her sprite master body disappeared into ashes, but she has a second chance at life as a fox sprite. He knew all along that Yun He would be fine, which is why he agreed to Ru Ling’s terms. He won't tell anyone this secret. Yun He sacrificed everything for everyone. From now on, he wants her to live freely from now on. And by free, Lin Hao Qing means that he's going to imprison Yun He in another hut. This way she can be free! *head-desking* He also uses half his powers to restore Yun He's original (human) appearance. She is now a child. In her hand is a red pearl.

The Dark Spirit is angered that the Celestial Master is useless, can’t even create chaos, geez, and moves on to tempt Ru Ling.

[Ep33] The Celestial Prince, Xue San Yue, and Li Shu are on the search for the origins of the Celestial Master dark powers.

Ji Cheng Yu is converting to the good side (Kong Ming’s).

Chang Yi and Luo Luo are still grieving for Yun He.

As for Little Yun He, she’s got an aggressive appetite and is growing up fast. Actually, she’s all grown up! Occasionally, she’ll have dreams (of Chang Yi) but she can’t recall anything. Lin Hao is her shifu and he dotes on her. He permits her excursions from her ‘prison’ on three conditions: 1) she can’t enter the celestial realm, 2) she cannot reveal her real appearance, 2) she can’t enter Northern Yuan. Yun He cheerily promises.

[Ep34] Sprite Masters (from Wanhua Valley) are discriminated. Qi Feng (of Northern Yuan) is bullying and killing them. Zhu Ling (of the celestial realm) is persecuting them. Lin Hao Qing wants Si Yu to head south with Yun He while he faces the danger alone.

Luo Luo is gone...gone with Kong Ming in the bed. The first time I covered my eyes at drama kisses >_< !!! This is torture.
Yun He is in disguise and Luo Luo cannot recognize her (but she looks the SAME?!?!) . They start off on the wrong foot.

Chang Yi seems like he’s enabling Qi Feng's tyranny, but he’s actually waiting for Qi Feng to let his guard down.

[Ep35] Yun He finds Chang Yi drunk, a habitual state for him. She realizes he’s Chang Yi, the one Lin Hao Qing says is her enemy. She runs away, but Chang Yi catches her. In desperation, he calls her Big Tailed Fish. He freezes. That’s Yun He’s nickname for him. The more she speaks, the more she reminds him of Yun He, but to Chang Yi, Yun He is currently a boy. He asks for her name. She says it's “Ah Ji”. He makes her stay as he’s very curious about “her". Then he finds out she’s a girl. And he still doesn’t connect the dots. Forgive him, he’s a missing a tail.

Ji Cheng Yu attacks Lin Shu and Xue San Yue. It seems Ji Cheng Yu didn’t convert to the good side.

[Ep36] Ah Ji is injured. She’s weakened and her spell wears off. Chang Yi saves her and realizes Ah Ji is his Yun He, but this Yun He no longer remembers this Chang Yi.

Qing Yao strips Qi Feng’s powers and expels him from the Fox Clan after he’s caught by Chang Yi red-handedly.

Kong Ming promises Chang Yi that he’ll find a way to restore Yun He’s memories. Dude, if you were supportive earlier, I could have gotten more happy moments in this drama. Useless guy. Chang Yi refuses. He doesn’t want to bring back her painful past. When she was tired, she would never complain. The current Yun He is much happier. He departs to the house that he had imprisoned Yun He in. In this room that carried so many memories, happy ones, but mostly sad ones, he leaves behind the seashell in the room, the one that broke. Then he smiles gratefully and thanks Yun He for coming back.

Luo Luo and Kong Ming romance.

Li Shu wants to marry Xue San Yue asap and so he’s really excited when the Celestial Prince has located the mountain on the map. The sooner this is over, the sooner he can marry. Li Shu believes the mountain floats in the air, invisible to the naked eye. Xue San Yue believes in his intuition. She takes a step over the cliff. Li Shu and Xue San Yue walk forward, hand in hand. Li Shu is right. This mountain floats.

A “breath of existence” (hologram) guards the floating mountain. If only they had access to technology then they wouldn’t be relying on so many “breaths of existence” telling them the truth of the past. It’s revealed to our characters that Ning Qing’s dark powers originate from Zhu Yan, the evil beast. The previous Emperor failed to seal Zhu Yan and as long as he exists, the Bitter Poison will never be eliminated. The “breath of existence” gives the Celestial Prince a secret lotus weapon that can seal Zhu Yan. Great! But it’s broken. Okay? And so now they gotta fix it. And oh, Ning Qing sealed the entrance so now they’re stuck in the floating mountain. I kind of wonder why the Celestial Prince needs 2 lackeys if one of them isn’t guarding outside.

[Ep37] A bitter Qi Feng (omg, are we still not done with this guy??) tells Zhu Ling the location of the tectonic plates. Once the plates are separated, lava will rise and burn all of Northern Yuan. Everything will turn to ash. Immediately after Qi Feng is used, Zhu Ling kills him. Thanks?

Chang Yi is prepared to sacrifice himself to save everyone. He alone will move the tectonic plates back together. He orders Kong Ming to bring everyone else to safety. He also allows Lin Hao Qing to take Yun He away.

Yun He is saddened to leave although that’s what she wanted. Then her red pearl glows hotly and soon after, Si Yu informs them about Chang Yi’s potential sacrifice. Yun He is determined to stay to protect everyone, and she hurts for the mermaid. Lin Hao Qing allows her to go where her heart desires while he stays behind to fight Zhu Ling.

Yun He helps Chang Yi restore the tectonic plates. As her powers maximize, her red pearl shatters. Her lost memories flood in then her nine tails flare out. She flies above Chang Yi telling him, “Big failed fish. I have arrived.” Together our powerful duo holds the crust together. Best 1 minute of the show right here. The special effects and the OST.

The plates are restored. Yun He is losing consciousness. She tells him to unknit his furrowed brows. They finally reunited; she wants to take a good look at him. She had forgotten everything but she couldn’t forget him. Uh. Girl forgot him for two whole episodes. Once again, her hands drop from his face, but this time Chang Yi swears he’ll protect her. Oh, and the place is crumbling down. That’s okay. Chang Yi suddenly has zapping abilities, and they bolt out of the cave in rays of light. Chang Yi plans to cultivate for a few days in order to heal Yun He. Kong Ming yells at him for risking his life yet again. All Kong Ming ever does is nag. Chang Yi was prepared to be burned to ashes anyway but Yun He risked her life to help him. He’s not letting her die.

Lin Hao Qing learns there is no antidote for the Bitter Poison. It will only be eliminated once Zhu Yan dies.

[Ep38] Yun He wakes up. By the way, Chang Yi is fine. No sweat. Kong Ming always be yapping. Chang Yi will let her leave to see the world. As for him, he will stay to protect Northern Yuan. But Yun He says she's staying. After roaming between life and death, she understands her desire for freedom better, which isn’t seeing the world, but having the choice to live her life the way she wants and now she wants accompaniment. “As vast as the heavens and lands are, my home is with you.” Yun He also explains she never betrayed him at the cliff. He knows. She also apologizes for stripping his choice.

The Phoenix and Lin Hao Qing team up. She distracts Ning Qing and Lin Hao Qing attacks Zhu Yan (dark spirit). The plan seems to be working. Lin Hao Qing destroys the picture (with Zhu Yan in it). Ji Cheng Yu also helps Lin Hao Qing escape.

However, the Phoenix is down. Did she survive?

Moreover, Zhu Yan did not die. Dude was not in the picture.

Ji Cheng Yu “dies” though.  But really, who knows if they ever die. Ning Qing dried up his powers to transfer them to Zhu Yan.

Back to the Phoenix, she’s captured. Yun He gets to livestream the event thanks to Ning Xi Yu entering her dream. We see that the Phoenix almost killed Zhu Yan. He manages to escape, but he is thoroughly weakened. Yun He also gets to video call the Phoenix thanks to Ning Xi Yu. In her last breath, the Phoenix reveals that Zhu Yan resides in Ning Qing’s ring. This is their chance to kill him because he’s too weak to migrate again. Then the Phoenix dies. She reunites with Ning Ruo Chu in the otherworld. It’s a happy ending for her...?

Battle result: 2-0. We won nothing, and lost Ji Cheng Yu and the Phoenix, and yet we still have Lin Hao Qing? Wut. That’s like a -1.
[Ep39] Yun He and Chang Yi barge into the celestial realm. Our couple cannot defeat Ning Qing, but there’s one person who he might surrender to: Ning Xi Yu. Chang Yi sets up a barrier to protect Yun He, who invites Ning Qing in a dreamworld, to allow him to meet Ning Xi Yu. Will you look at that? Chang Yi setting up wifi so that Ning Qing can have a zoom meeting with Ning Xi Yu. Me loves a man who can fix internet connections.

In the dreamworld. Ning Xi Yu tells Ning Qing he’s the one who reported Ning Ruo Chu and the Phoenix’s relationship, which means he’s the ultimate reason Ning Xi Yu eventually died. Ning Qing willfully forgot all about it. It’s not that Ning Qing cannot forgive the world for Ning Xi Yu’s death, he cannot forgive himself.

Ning Qing cries and surrenders. He strips his ring. In the process, his hair turns white, and his powers disappear. A dark tornado consumes the sky; it’s Zhu Yan’s wrath. Didn’t Phoenix say Zhu Yan was weak... This is weak?! Chang Yi attempts to seal it with the sword his father gave him. Yun He cries that he’s sacrificing his life.

Zhu Yan is defeated! But oh no, a wisp of his energy still exists. Ru Ling absorbs it. She turns evil, uh, I mean more evil. She uses her upgraded powers to kill Yun He and Chang Yi but Ning Qing protects them and sends them away. Ning Qing dies and in death, the person he cares about is still Ning Xi Yu. Alas, it’s more of a reason for Ru Ling to go berserk.

Li Shu is still with the gang, stuck at the floating mountain. A “breath of existence” visits Li Shu. It’s his ancestor, who tells him their clan has multiple lives because at critical moments, they are to sacrifice their lives. They are the light to the lotus lamp. Li Shu denies his destiny. Why must he sacrifice himself to save the world? Oh no. o.o Why can’t we sacrifice Kong Ming instead?

The Bitter Frost is gone since Zhu Yan “died”.

Ning Xi Yu’s “breath of existence” disappears.

Chang Yi is not okay. He’s going to be sealed in ice (= coma). Kong Ming swears he’ll find a way to save Chang Yi. Question: Kong Ming keeps saying he’ll do this and that, but in the end, has he done anything?

Yun He asks Chang Yi to marry her. He refuses. He can’t do it. He can’t ruin her future. She reminds him he already gave her an imprint, which in their mermaid world means they’re already married. Oh? The whole world already knows she’s his. No one else will want her. Moreover, if she was the one dying, he’d do the same for her too. She finally manages to convince him. He’ll marry her.

[Ep40] The wedding will be in three days. Yun He hand sews their wedding robes. She asks Chang Yi about mermaid dresses. Well, mermaids don’t wear clothes. Ah.

Yun He and Chang Yi consummate before their wedding night. But afterwards, he cries. Turns out he only has tomorrow night left to live, which means until the wedding night. He doesn’t tell her about this, afraid she’ll be sad.

The wedding. Yun He is in a mermaid (style) wedding dress. Sky lanterns are released by the sprites to bless their wedding.
Wedding night. Chang Yi and Yun He are in bed. He senses his time is up. He asks her to turn away. He doesn’t want her to see. But Yun He knows. She hides her crying and asks him to sing for her. Ha, he can lip-sync all he wants now.  In his last breath, he tells her he doesn’t regret stepping on land because he met her.

[Ep41] Chang Yi is sealed in ice.

Celestial Prince’s two bodyguards sacrifice themselves to fix the lamp. Li Shu also sacrifices himself to light the lamp. This Celestial Emperor. Could he not have left a better weapon?!?! When Xue San Yue realizes, it’s too late. He disappears before her eyes. This time there’s really nothing left, except a hairpin. From it, a hologram of Li Shu appears. It’s his last message to her. He apologizes for lying. He wants her to find someone else who won’t lie to her. As for him, he doesn’t regret his life. His happiest moment was being her pet cat. Xue San Yue yells at him for telling her to find someone else: “In your dreams! I, Xue San Yue, am your wife. No matter when. Life or death. A fact that will never change.” She puts on the hairpin.

Ru Ling has zombified her army, including Lin Hao Qing. It’s war with Yun He and Northern Yuan. Ru Ling strangles Yun He. Suddenly, a blue aura attacks Ru Ling. It’s Chang Yi! How! Because of magical beans! The Celestial Prince gave Chang Yi pipal tree seeds. Magical beans. I told you

[Ep42] Zombified Ji Cheng Yu stabs Kong Ming. Luo Luo takes the blow. OMG. Why must Kong Ming be alive? 太過分!  Then Ji Cheng Yu dies, leaving behind the pouch that Kong Ming gave him.

Zombified Lin Hao Qing attacks the Celestial Prince who is honing the lotus lamp. Yun He protects the Celestial Prince. At the final moment though, Lin Hao Qing allows Yun He to kill him. He will always be her shixiong. Then he falls off the cliff. Hint, hint, it’s a cliff.

Lotus lamp is ready to seal Ru Ling and her dark powers, but this girl manages to unleash her powers in gaseous form and she’s free. Do tell me what was the point of the lotus lamp. If it wasn’t going to work, then bring back Li Shu, man. Yun He absorbs the dark force. She plans to die with it by jumping into the lava lake. She wants Chang Yi to seal her. He’s the only person she trusts enough to do it. She promises to come back to find him. Chang Yi wants a pledge: a kiss. A blue light emits from their kiss. Another pearl? The same pearl? Aiyah. He promises he will always be her Big Tailed Fish. And she promises she will find him again because he’s her home.
Yun He jumps into the lava lake. Chang Yi seals her with ice.

By the way, Luo Luo is alive.

300 years later
  • Kong Ming becomes the celestial master. Luo Luo is his wife. And she’s pregnant.
  • Qing Yao is the ruler of Northern Yuan and happily single.
  • Li Shu is alive! But he’s not Li Shu. A reincarnation? This new man tells Xue San Yue that he had admired the Sprite Master Xue San Yue for a long time now, not knowing he’s speaking to her.
  • Lin Hao Qing is alive too. He uses a wheelchair now after falling off the cliff. Si Yu is at his side, unselfishly in love with him still.
Chang Yi is alone. After a series of flashbacks, he’s no longer alone. Yun He is with him. How?

Chang Yi’s tail grew back. How?

Yun He has a mermaid tail too! Forget it. I’m not asking anymore

They race in the vast sea.

The end.

Remarks

[First Impression (Ep1-4)] I know very well that I’m watching this for the actors. No shame. So far, I like the special effects during the action scenes, but the overall style of the CGI isn’t quite to my taste. The story is relatively simple, very romantically driven. Girl wants freedom, uses the guy here and there, and then falls in love. Guy is innocent and cute but turns evilly possessive after being betrayed.

I like that Dilireba is in a character where she’s good at flirting, I mean, taming pets. The pet is Ren Jia Lun. So innocent with abs and a big fat aqua tail. The combo is interesting

I’m hoping the drama develops the world more and explores the interactions between the sprites rather than focusing entirely on the romance. Otherwise what a waste it would be when the demon world looks so cool.

I’m conflicted on the show’s portrayal of the FL. In these four episodes, Yun He is gaslighting Chang Yi. She simultaneously manipulates him and showers him with kindness. Then when he doubts her for using him, she whimpers that he’s accusing her. But she is using him! I think drama tries to make it up by throwing in scenes of her falling in love to downplay the manipulation...but at the same time, she’s still using him...! No wonder he hates her in the intro.

[Ep8 Update] There are more interactions between different sprites. But it’s still all above love! I wanted action scenes. Oh well, lol. But, omg, it’s all tragic. It’s a good thing that the couples are mostly minor characters so I don’t feel that sad, but it’s also a bad thing because I don’t care about these couples.

[Ep21 Update] Hu Yi Xuan T_T. I disagree with this romance.

[Part 1 to 2 Transition] It’s so dumb to split this series in two. Part 1 puts an abrupt end to a climax without solving anything. It’s not super annoying, just mildly annoying like when someone pulls your charger when you’re at 99%.

[Actors/Actresses]

[Behind the Scenes

[Ending] It’s a happy tale (or two).

I don’t quite get it, but I’m just happy it ended and the main characters are happy.

[Review & Rating]
This is serviceable. I watched it 110% because I like the actors. I should have resisted but it was hard when drama makes them look pretty and gives them superpowers.

As a romance, this one really sucks. It’s either she’s lying or dying and then when she’s finally not lying or dying, he’s dying. Then when he’s not dying, she’s dying again. Oi! 42 episodes of this! Happy, sweet moments are scarce. Pressing lips doesn't count but the show thinks it does and so we get a lot of that and the more they do it, the more annoyed I get. The repetitive romantic lines do not help. Their visuals…sure, fine, whatever.

As a fantasy story, it’s flat and uninventive. New rules crop up out of convenience. I’ve lost count of the number of pearls. There’s a lot of characters that I don’t care about. Everyone seems inclined to save the world on their own. Barely any sense of teamwork. Self-sacrifice is the one and only solution. There’s so many repeated offenders abusing the trope. If there was just one character that does it, fine, but this show has multiple characters committing multiple sacrifices. And then no one even dies. Oh, Did Chang Yi lose a tail? That's fine. Oh, is Yun He dying? That’s fine. Oh, is Yun He dying again? That's fine! If the sacrifices have no weight, really, what’s the point?

I’m glowering at this director. And I see his upcoming dramas. (Aiyah! Chen Zhe Yuan, get outta there!) By the way, I also think the director messed up the foundation for The Long Ballad. There were so many logical flaws. However, I could ignore it because more than the flaws, I enjoyed the characterizations (thanks to the baseline IP) and the cast chemistry.

Now for the secondary romance: Luo Luo and Kong Ming. Omg. What were they thinking in casting these two as a couple? I don’t want to bash on the guy’s looks but I’m bashing on the guy's looks but I wouldn’t be bashing on the guy's looks if the production casted someone APPROPRIATE for the role. Either it’s him (Wang Zi Teng) and not Hu Yi Xuan, or Hu Yi Xuan and not him. I respect couples of all pairings, but I don’t have to be watching them kiss and cuddle on my screen. Anyway. This couple is negligible to the overall drama rating. I just ignored them. The good thing is they saved my time. Skip.

Despite all that ranting, let me attempt to be a bit more objective. This drama really isn’t horrible. It clears the bar of a watchable drama with room to spare. There’s enough events to keep it strolling at 42 episodes. It’s not a complicated plot, fairly easy to digest. The leads are pretty, the music is good, and the special effects are impressive at times. Maybe you’ll find entertainment in laughing at the plot (I did). And whatever that ending was, it’s still a happy ending.

Rating: 2/5
