[Cyn-opsis] Jiang Bai Ju is a man who cannot die. Jin Xiao Yu is a girl who will die in a year. She is a regular mortal with a not so regular disease called Rare Disease, and a not so regular personality. She will make friends only if they promise to attend her funeral and “pay” ($) condolences. Haha. The more she can raise for her funeral, the more money her Teacher will have for retirement. It’s her filial piety for the Teacher who raised her. As for Jiang Bai Ju he’s definitely not a regular man; he’s immortal and will mutate into a wolf-like monster religiously at 11 o’clock. He lives wanting to die and broods like one. Their fates cross paths on a fatal bus ride. They might just be each other’s only cure.

Jiang Bai Ju ensures the girls exit safely. Then the oncologist drives away with Jiang Bai Ju still on the bus. The bus dives over a bridge and into the water. Both men die.
And in death, both men (corpses) become Jin Xiao Yu’s clients. Lol. She’s a mortuary cosmetologist, recovering clients' features for families to put their bodies to rest. She’s alone at night and it’s approaching 11 o’clock. Jiang Bai Ju wakes up from the dead but he mutates and attacks her. Miraculously, when she touches his skin, he reverts to normal and his senses are back. She takes the chance to run away but he mutates again. Jiang Bai Ju’s assistants (Qian Cheng and William, which I’m in the process of differentiating. Please do not put them in the same clothes) arrive on time to stop their master’s mutation. It requires killing him. Cool. Once Jiang Bai Ju is alive for the second time today, they plan to kill Jin Xiao Yu, the witness, but Jiang Bai Ju spares her life.

A live corpse ran away! She investigates “Qian Jin”, the name of the corpse but there’s no medical history on this man. She looks into the “brother” Qian Cheng but he’s a CEO and isn’t quite easy to contact.
Jiang Bai Ju investigates Jin Xiao Yu too. Her father is unknown. Her mother died giving birth to her. She was saved by Ge Da Cheng (her teacher). Jiang Bai Ju is certain she’ll find her way to him. He suspects their meeting on the bus wasn’t a coincidence. It is fate!
Jin Xiao Yu is working on recovering the oncologist’s features but she finds his death questionable. He doesn’t look like he died from drowning. The discolouration of his fingernails indicate he was poisoned. But the medical examiner can’t be wrong, right? Still, Jin Xiao Yu is suspicious.
I love how he goes along with her logic. He hands her another wad of cash, “Your kind (earthling) calls this OT pay.” She thanks her Alien Boss but as she’s staring at the money, she tells him there’s something else she wants...
He puts the necklace on her. He likes it and will buy it for her. She thinks it’s too expensive.
[Ep6] William tells Jin Xiao Yu how Jiang Bai Ju saved Qian Cheng ten years ago. There was a girl who Qian Cheng loved but she was kidnapped, and to save her, he almost fell off a building. In turn, Jiang Bai Ju saved Qian Cheng (just like how he saved Jin Xiao Yu). It took Jiang Bai Ju three months to recover. Jin Xiao Yu asks William why he’s telling her this. He’s trying to buy her trust with this secret. Jin Xiao Yu snickers at his cleverness for using someone else’s secret.
William and Qian Cheng collectively sigh. Hahaha
[Ep7] [Side Story] Tan Yue Ran had a heart transplant and wants to know her donor's information. She approaches Jin Xiao Yu who refuses to answer because it’s confidential. Then she approaches Jin Xiao Yu’s colleague (Zhang Quan Zhan) who’s unguarded towards her because he's desperate to date any girl who’s still breathing.

[Ep2] Jin Xiao Yu sneaks into Qian’ai Group’s fashion show as a part-timer to look for her living corpse. (A little bit on Qian’ai Group: Jiang Bai Ju operates everything but he hides behind Qian Cheng, the “CEO”, and William, the “fashion designer”). During the event, two disruptors intend to sabotage the event: Xue Wan Wan (William’s childhood sweetheart who William hates) and Qian Tu (Qian Cheng’s older brother who Qian Cheng hates) Heh. And so Qian Cheng is off the deal with Xue Wan Wan. With his no bs attitude, he's immune to her whining. Meanwhile, William distracts Qian Tu. With William’s frivolous personality, he can attract attention to Qian Tu who cares about his reputation. Two problems solved, with one more to go: Jin Xiao Yu.
Jiang Bai Ju is all alone without his lackeys. Jin Xiao Yu is on her way up but she’s stuck in an elevator. Jiang Bai Ju laughs as he watches the CCTV. Then the elevator operates again, bringing her to where he is. It’s close to 11pm and he’s just about to mutate but he touches her hand and the mutation subsides. He can also feel emotions! But wasn’t he just laughing? She hugs him, glad that he’s alive. They continue to talk while holding hands. He says it’s to check her pulse to see if she’s lying. Whatever. Our girl is too curious about him to care. He’s curious too. Why is she not afraid of him? To her, the only thing that scares her is death, or more like she fears leaving behind the people who love her. She asks him to help her live with his ability. He can, but he has one condition. It’s to examine the oncologist’s corpse.
The next night, Jin Xiao Yu allows Jiang Bai Ju to inspect the oncologist. He wants to confirm if he took a medication that momentarily increased his strength. This medication is sold on the darknet and it might just be the cure to her terminal disease. I guess his is also a “terminal” disease in that his time is terminated... Right after Jiang Bai Ju leaves, Jin Xiao Yu is attacked by two men. Jiang Bai Ju doubles back to save her and probably has an idea who the masked men are (it’s William and Qian Cheng who are overprotective of their young master, pft). Her nose starts bleeding and so he piggybacks her. He’s only carrying her with one arm, lol. Her other leg is clutched to his waist on her own. Why? xD To show off his strength? To show off her lightness? After he settles her down, he finds his shirt bloodied. Somehow She bled enough from her nose to sink through his sweater and onto his skin. He’s wiping her blood off his chest. Jin Xiao Yu’s eyes fixate on his abs.
Jiang Bai Ju: Does it look good? Ha. What a dead tone.Jin Xiao Yu (with saliva drooling from her mouth, almost): Good!Jiang Bai Ju: Thanks to your nosebleed. I love how this is reversed. Nosebleed first, ab stimulation second.
She asks him a few questions like his real name (which is Ni Gu La Si not real haha) and if he knew the two men. She’s certain he knows otherwise he would have called security by now. He denies it. He does leave behind his contact number and adds that he can’t guarantee he’ll find the cure within a year.
Jin Xiao Yu: I’ll wait for you!Jiang Bai Ju: You girls love to say that but in the end you never do. It’s only ‘cause, dude, you outlive everyone. Puh-lease, don’t blame us mortals. Here’s my number. Don’t call me. Even if you do, I won’t answer.Jin Xiao Yu: Then why are you giving me your number? LOL. My thoughts exactly.Jiang Bai Ju: You have so much rubbish to say. I guess he meant to only call him when there’s an emergency. He should just get to the point.
[Ep3] Jiang Bai Ju invites Jin Xiao Yu over to his office to watch an old comedic film. There’s all sorts of oddities in this scenario but Jiang Bai Ju tells her “Whoever talks is a dog.” Jin Xiao Yu zips her mouth shut. Literally.
During the movie, whenever Jiang Bai Ju laughs, it hurts his heart, but once he holds Jin Xiao Yu's hand, the pain goes away. He can laugh freely with her physical presence. She knows it’s weird that he’s holding her hand, but her handsome smiling face is such a beautiful distraction.
Jiang Bai Ju: Watch the movie, don’t watch me.Jin Xiao Yu: Don’t you know you look better than the movie? What is embarrassment when her lifespan is so short? Love her spunk. Jiang Bai Ju takes her hand with the finger: Don’t "think too much" (多想; duoxiang).Jin Xiao Yu retorts: It’s you who’s "thinking inappropriately" (乱想; luanxiang). She always wins him, lol even if it means to lie. Totally thinking inappropriately.
Jin Xiao Yu asks Jiang Bai Ju to be honest with her if he’s an alien. She’s like who doesn’t eat while watching a movie? Must be an alien! And movies should be enjoyed with more people. He knows that. But he’s got “health reasons”. She finally confronts him about holding her hand and asks if he knows what harassment is.

While the movie is going on, William accompanies Qian Cheng to his appointment with his psychologist. When Qian Cheng is alone, and traumatized, William runs to find him and hugs him. Aw, good bros!
Jin Xiao Yu accompanies Cheng Wei Lan, her bestie and her doctor, to pick up a transfer patient. Doctors have to go pick up patients themselves? Well, story says so! The girls arrive at Zuo’An Hospital which was rebuilt from WWII, previously involved in Japanese experimentation with human beings. The place turns eerie and the girls are stuck somewhere. Jin Xiao Yu finds her way into a storage room with various patient records. One of them is Wan Bin Bin (22yo). In the file, she finds pictures of cutaneous marks that are just like her own. She quickly snaps pictures and then finds a way out. She opens the door and it hits Prof. Lin Nuo Yan. He suffers a minor injury. Jin Xiao Yu apologizes and bugs him for his contact, which is actually for Cheng Wei Lan who admires this doctor.
At the hospital, Jin Xiao Yu meets the little girl she saved on the bus. The girl recounts that both men were bad. It was Jiang Bai Ju who provoked the oncologist. This perplexes Jin Xiao Yu.
It’s night and Jin Xiao Yu is back at Jiang Bai Ju’s office. He’s working and she’s fake sleeping. They’re holding hands too. Keeping up her sleeping act, she adjusts her position – reclining back on her chair and resting one foot on his chair. Her hands become free as her foot is touching him. This way, she can secretly snap pictures of him. Jiang Bai Ju isn’t aware. He even straightens her leg on his lap to let her sleep comfortably. Jin Xiao Yu takes advantage and rests both her legs on him. What kind of mentality does it take to snore in front of this hot and handsome CEO, and rest both her feet on his lap, while knowing he’s a corpse that almost killed her? It’s 1 am. Her “work" is over. She stays to ask questions about him, our alien doctor (which he has never admitted to being either an alien or a doctor):
Jin Xiao Yu: Does your kind (alien doctors) differentiate between Chinese and Western medicine?Jiang Bai Ju is sarcastic: We don’t differentiate between Chinese or Western. (中 is short for Chinese and means centre;西 = west). We only differentiate between Southern and Northern (南北). LOL!
Jiang Bai Ju acts scared: I can only give you money. Anything else, I really can’t give you. Ahaha, Jiang Bai Ju saying he can’t sell his body when he’s the one giving her the money.Jin Xiao Yu laughs: Ho ho! In my life, I can actually hear this line. (Kyaa~!) So shy! So exciting! – she hits (punches) him – That’s so annoying~~ !!

Jiang Bai Ju laughs: Don’t make me laugh.Jin Xiao Yu: If you don’t promise me, then I’ll make you laugh everyday. Ha. I love how this is a threat to him.Jiang Bai Ju: I already promised to help you cure your disease, what else do you want?Jin Xiao Yu: I want – she grabs on to his arm *insert romantic music* – when I know what I want, I’ll let you know.
After she leaves, Jiang Bai Ju’s heart is accelerating. He asks his own heart, “Why are you beating so fast?” Jiang Bai Ju sinks himself in a tub, making himself forget the reason his heart is racing. Ah, love is here for the centenarian!
Jin Xiao Yu meets Prof Lin Nuo Yan who knows about her condition and asks if she has any wishes she hasn’t accomplished. He wants to help her (e.g. dinner, playing, eating, etc.). Jin Xiao Yu says he’s too nice. She rejects his kind offer (which he says he should be doing hmmmmm. Why?). The person she has in mind for the day isn’t him. It’s Jiang Bai Ju ~
Jin Xiao Yu: On my to do list before I die, I have a wish, which is to go on a date with a handsome guy. I just love how straightforward she is. Don’t worry, I’ll foot the bill! That’s so cute!Jin Xiao Yu is amazed: Your sense of humour is so low.Jiang Bai Ju, smirking still: It was pretty good.Jin Xiao Yu: Then I’ll tell you another one!Jiang Bai Ju: No no no. Just tell me where you want to go.Jin Xiao Yu is ecstatic: So I get to decide?Jiang Bai Ju: It’s your death wish (= a date. Their language, lol). If you don’t know how I can ask Princess William. Jin Xiao Yu doesn’t want William's help. They’d end up in the hotel and she doesn’t have money for that. Is it only money that’s on her mind?! LOL. When Jiang Bai Ju is home, he tells William and Qian Cheng about his date with her. William asks which hotel they’ll be in. LOL. It’s at a mall. No hotel. The lackeys are sure Jin Xiao Yu wants to kidnap him. It turns out Jiang Bai Ju doesn’t trust her either and since the mall is theirs, they can see what she’s up to.
Jin Xiao Yu suspects Jiang Bai Ju too. She tells her bestie, Cheng Wei Lan, that the bus accident wasn’t an accident and her saviour is an alien. Through this date, she wants to know just who (or what) he is.
[Ep4] Best friends are best friends and Cheng Wei Lan will help Jin Xiao Yu no matter how absurd the request is. She follows Jin Xiao Yu and Jiang Bai Ju on their date. The scarf that Jin Xiao Yu forcefully wrapped around his neck was to get his hair sample.
The date moves along and now they’re at a jewelry store. Jiang Bai Ju spots a silver fish necklace, which Jin Xiao Yu notes is just like her name.
Jiang Bai Ju: Yeah, you are Jin Xiao Yu ("A Gold Little Fish", ou another Goldfish in 2021) and this is "A Silver Little Fish".
Jiang Bai Ju: Take it as your funeral present. LOL. There’s someone who’s better at speaking her language than she is, but then again, she only works with corpses, while he’s like a "living corpse".
Well, if it’s for her funeral, she can’t quite reject him. Pft. Once he leaves to pay, she snatches the cup he drank to hand it over to Cheng Wei Lan inconspicuously. The date smoothly arrives at the next course: lunch.
Jin Xiao Yu is cheerful: Thank you for treating me to food and shopping with me. To not work but reap the benefits of life is truly corroded! I want to become degenerate too!He chokes on his drink. LOL.Jiang Bai Ju: Actually, you don't have a lot of capital to become degenerate¹. Haha.Jin Xiao Yu: We're eating, can we talk about something happier!Jiang Bai Ju: But you're almost dying. The boys (Jiang Bai Ju, William and Qian Cheng) know Cheng Wei Lan is collecting Jiang Bai Ju's samples. While Qian Cheng is in the control centre (surveying), William makes a move on Cheng Wei Lan asking about organ donation.
Jin Xiao Yu sees her Teacher at the mall and quickly hugs Jiang Bai Ju in order to hide because that’s the only logical way to hide in a romcom. Still hugging him, she tries to walk (like a crab, imagine that). Not wanting to walk like a pair of crabs, he lifts her up in his arms and carries her to an amusement train ride in the mall.
William stole the samples from Cheng Wei Lan. Cheng Wei Lan explains to Jin Xiao Yu that she was too busy with the organ donation signup, she lost sight of the samples. All she remembers is this William guy flirting with her: "My heart is already yours," and "Your heart is stolen by me.”
Jin Xiao Yu dramatically cries: And I already gave him my life! What is a heart when she gave her entire life to Jiang Bai Ju (to cure) xD.
It was also William who led Teacher to the mall in order to distract Jin Xiao Yu. Although Jiang Bai Ju knows Jin Xiao Yu had a motive, he still smiles as he reminisces about the date. The next day he invites her to listen to his vinyl record. When she sings along, he’s reminded of a singer. His love?
A chandelier drops on Jin Xiao Yu. This has to be deliberate. But who and why? Jiang Bai Ju saves her. The chandelier crashes down on his leg. The lackeys are worried for Jiang Bai Ju. Qian Cheng cuts his hand while trying to lift the shards. William scolds Qian Cheng for being careless and tends to his injuries. I see the hierarchy now. William cares for Qian Cheng more than Jiang Bai Ju or maybe it’s because William knows Jiang Bai Ju will be fine xD. Qian Tu happens to be in the building, helpfully takes a task of their busy hands to welcome guests which include Lin Nuo Yan. Hm. Lin Nuo Yan, is it?
Jiang Bai Ju hides his non-injured leg under a blanket and confronts Jin Xiao Yu if the chandelier was her scheme. To kill herself? He calls her calculative. Even the medical record she gave him was fake. He’s right about that. She couldn’t trust him. He left no trace of evidence. He was the one who provoked the oncologist. Since he suspects her, she might as well admit to everything (even if the chandelier wasn’t her fault). She threatens him if he plans to kill her, she has a scheduled will that will be posted to all platforms and presses. His secret will be revealed. She’s going to die anyway, she doesn’t care about her life, but she knows he can threaten her family. She promises to keep his secret as long as her family is safe.
Once Jin Xiao Yu is in the elevator, she’s calmer, and she starts thinking. She wonders why he didn’t let the chandelier kill her. I like that she's suspicious and then after she settles down, she calmly thinks things through.
Jiang Bai Ju is so hurt (emotionally, aw), he drowns himself again. Oh, so he killed himself last time too, lol. Wow. Talk about suicidal. Qian Cheng gives him heart compressions and breaks a rib. When Jiang Bai Ju is alive again, he bitterly asks who did it. William tattles.
Qian Cheng: One of these days we're going to have a death match. Either you die or I die.
Jin Xiao Yu had a code blue. Her Rare Disease acted up. Once she’s awake, a group of doctors clap for her 68th revival. Ha. Cheng Wei Lan is dead asleep after staying up all night to care for Jin Xioa Yu, but once she smells food (hardboiled egg), she’s up and then eats while sleeping.
William updates Jiang Bai Ju of Jin Xiao Yu’s condition and how all the doctors love her.
Jiang Bai Ju acknowledges: When she talks well, her mouth is very sweet.William slyly asks: Have you tasted it? Pft.
After offending Jiang Bai Ju, William runs away. He finds Qian Cheng overdosing on his meds, and I mean like the whole bottle of multiple bottles. William cries that he’s living with a bunch of psychos. One guy drowns himself. Then there’s a girl who’s sick in the hospital. And now he’s got a crazy one. William asks Qian Cheng if he’s psycho. Qian Cheng hollers: “I am psycho!!” LOL.
Jin Xiao Yu volunteers at the hospital for an organ donation event (organized by Lin Nuo Yan). Fu Liang is a volunteer. He tells Jin Xiao Yu the first time she met Cheng Wei Lan was when she couldn’t save his fiancée. She died in a car accident on the day they planned to register their marriage.
Somewhere else there’s another car accident. The driver transporting the oncologist’s body crashed his car. What happened to the corpse? Sorry Living Driver, I don’t care about you.
[Ep5] Jin Xiao Yu catches Jiang Bai Ju spying on her. “Is looting a newsstand also one of your motives in landing on Earth?” His tall figure stumbles down two levels after that embarrassment. Then he erects his body to recover the bit of confidence he has left. Too bad for him, she barely lets him say a complete word that’s not an “I” or a “You”. She tells him “You look gravely ill. Don’t go to the hospital, go straight to a temple and bye bye, 再您的見”. In love with her sass.
Jiang Bai Ju enlists Qian Tu to catch this guy who made the fake ID for the oncologist, which leads their search to another guy presumably named Zhao Shan. Supposedly, he is a veterinarian. Qian Tu is only helping Jiang Bai Ju so that his brother (Qian Cheng) can be free. However, Jiang Bai Ju has a second task for him which is to find Zhao Shan. Qian Tu cries unfair (he only signed up for one task). That’s fine. Jiang Bai Ju can just ask Qian Cheng ~~ Qian Tu submits. Oh, Qian Tu, this is only the beginning, hehe. Jiang Bai Ju is a sly fox xD. .
Qian Tu mutters under his breath: So old already and still doesn’t keep to his promises.Jiang Bai Ju: So young and looking like a good older brother.Qian Tu: Liar. Stinky old man. Hehe.
At home, William is typing his (love) story. The lips have slowly moved to the cheeks. Then Jin Xiao Yu cuts to the chase and asks to see his license. He runs away. She’s lured to the roof where he attacks her. Jin Xiao Yu is flung over the ledge. Jiang Bai Ju dives off the building to save her, taking the brunt of the fall. He dies. And we all know he doesn’t die. His bones realign on its own and it’s like this creepy popping and locking move. It scares Jin Xiao Yu enough that she faints.
Qian Tu and Qian Cheng clean up the area. Qian Tu made sure Lin Nuo Yan was unconscious but alive and well.

Jin Xiao Yu wakes up in a hospital bed. She fears Jiang Bai Ju after what she witnessed. She explains to him she only investigated the medicine. She has one question for him, though. He interrupts her with his answer: “I won’t go to your funeral. Take the necklace as my condolence.” That wasn’t the question she wanted to ask. There’s tears in her eyes as her question is stuck in her throat. She wants to ask about him and he’s shutting her out.
The illegally practicing doctor is Zhao Shan (the man Jiang Bai Ju was investigating). He escaped. He receives a text from a mysterious man asking him his thoughts on the “Undead Person” who came back alive before his eyes (Jiang Bai Ju). Mysterious Man's voice sounds like Lin Nuo Yan.
William’s Grandma (Dao) is home. So young! She shows the boys (Qian Cheng, Qian Tu and William) the surveillance video of Jiang Bai Ju popping those moves, returning from the dead. It’s circulating the internet on foreign sites. She scolds the boys for not protecting their master. Grandma wants the boys to bring her Jin Xiao Yu.
Lin Nuo Yan gives Jin Xiao Yu a present. It’s an incense that flows downward (instead of upward). He really likes it because it’s different. He thinks life should be like that too. Why should life only flow in one direction?
William ‘kidnaps’ Jin Xiao Yu (for Grandma). Well, Jin Xiao Yu accuses him of it but she’s the one buckling her seatbelt. He denies it and says he never steals bodies, only hearts. Ack. She asks if he’s an alien too. He plays along.
William: How’d you know? I have two specialties. One is especially handsome and the other is especially attractive. Ha!
Jin Xiao Yu grimaces at his narcissism. He changes the topic. He doesn’t blame her for being scared. Usually Jiang Bai Ju resurrects rather calmly. He’s only seen that type of reformation twice: yesterday and ten years ago (which seems to be related to Qian Cheng’s trauma).
Jin Xiao Yu has arrived at Grandma’s home. Grandma appears very sweet and tells her Jiang Bai Ju’s story. To him, family, friendship, and love brings more pain than comfort. Grandma doesn’t know Jiang Bai Ju’s origins either. Is he an alien, a god, or a cursed human being? He might just be a maze, a very beautiful maze. Grandma hopes Jin Xiao Yu can solve this maze. She has also never seen Jiang Bai Ju smile [too much] or cry. He’s like a black and white horror movie yet he always loved colour. Grandma can’t stop the movie for Jiang Bai Ju but she believes Jin Xiao Yu can hit that pause button and add colour to his life. And so Grandma has a contract for Jin Xiao Yu to stay with Jiang Bai Ju (the part-time job). He would never buy her companionship nor put her in danger, and so Grandma will be the bad person for him.
Jin Xiao Yu accepts Grandma’s contract. Jiang Bai Ju learns belatedly and throws a tantrum, but no one cares. Not Grandma, not Jin Xiao Yu. Jiang Bai Ju slams the door behind him, pft. A toddler, is he?
William brings Jin Xiao Ju to her room. It’s all pink. Always. Get a guy to decorate a girl’s room: Pink. William is also very proud of the pink frilly dress he chose for her. This must be Princess William’s taste, lol.
Jiang Bai Ju barges into Jin Xiao Yu’s pink room. His hair is all wet. Did he “drown" himself again? He tells her to leave. He doesn’t want to live with strangers. To make it up, Jin Xiao Yu will do all the chores. The boys watch her, amazed at her tenacity. They cross their legs in sync to observe the rare species (Jin Xiao Yu). Jiang Bai Ju is slightly smirking ~!
At home, Jiang Bai Ju overhears Jin Xiao Yu’s complains about Tan Yue Ran. He’s curious why it’s confidential. She lays out the logic one after another. He’s listening very well. Then he wonders if Tan Yue Ran is trying to harm her, which makes Jin Xiao Yu skeptical if he wants her to be harmed. Jiang Bai Ju lists out all the benefits to her death: they can cook the turtle, burn the goose for her incense, and clear the kitchen of her weird ingredients. Annoyed, Jin Xiao Yu stomps off but he has one last thing to say, “Just now when you were firing out those points was pretty admirable.” Ou, he can compliment! Jin Xiao Yu is a little moved.
Jin Xiao Yu is at work and finds the corpse suspicious. The fingernails are pink again just like the oncologist’s. However, the death recorded is starvation and low blood sugar.
Jin Xiao Yu asks William for advice on how to tell her guy friend that another girl is a bitch. William explains that her guy friend knows. It’s just not to the point that he wants to acknowledge it and he’d rather be lied to. I see William isn’t just an idiot. William gets back to typing his story, which is a romance between a man who can’t die for centuries and a woman who will die in a year. Creative. Jin Xiao Yu scrunches her face at this line: “A man who is too long and a girl who is too short.” What does that mean? William calmly explains he meant lifespan. I mean what other span in the human body could we talk about? Right, William?
After Tan Yue Ran steals the information she wants from Zhang Quan Zhan, she ignores all his messages. She has discovered her donor is Fu Liang’s girlfriend. The next day, she visits his cafe, dressed up just like his gf.
Tan Yue Ran inherited the feelings of the heart’s owner :/ Weird... Could she be manipulated? Anyway, Show has a theme. It’s a story about death and so we’re touching upon the loss of loved ones (Fu Liang), and survivors (Tan Yue Ran). Pretty neat. It’s also done in a comfortable, light (and humorous) tone. Very digestible.
[Ep8] Jiang Bai Ju learns from William that Jin Xiao Yu is stressing over Tan Yue Ran fooling her male colleague. Jiang Bai Ju is jealous ~ Two things bother him: (1) the male colleague (2) she confided in William and not him. He’s visibly happier when he confirms that she doesn’t like her colleague. She asks for his help. He agrees but on a condition and it’s for her to move out. Jin Xiao Yu doesn’t want it anymore.
Jiang Bai Ju: They all say loyalty is worth thousands of gold (a Chinese idiom).Jin Xiao Yu: You’re right! But Grandma gave me ten thousands of gold! Jin Xiao Yu flips through Tan Yue Ran’s notes and is surprised she’s an introvert with a possible diagnosis of depression. On paper, she’s so different from reality.
Jin Xiao Yu is distracted with a wedding veil on Jiang Bai Ju's desk. She asks Boss if she can try it. He puts it on for her (and she feels the tingling romance). Like a groom and bride! He compliments her for looking like a bride especially in her white blouse dress. She quickly takes a few selfies for memento because she won’t ever get to marry. Aw. Jiang Bai Ju takes pity on her. Actually, he can’t marry either... These two ): He offers to take better pictures for her, but he’s standing erect again. Taking her cue, he kneels down on one knee to take the shots at a better angle and smiles at her various poses. The semi-wedding moment is interrupted when Jiang Bai Ju hears Qian Cheng’s approaching footsteps. Now they both have to hide.
Qian Cheng (shouting in what he thinks is an empty room): Young master, why did you give me a week off? How can you use me in your deal with my brother? You don’t respect me! [Hmph!] Oh, princess.
Jin Xiao Yu and Jiang Bai Ju laugh in their hiding spot, particularly Jiang Bai Ju. She smiles at him and tells him to laugh louder instead of holding it back. This makes him regain his composure instead. He calls her boring. She sees through him. He must be embarrassed ~!
Jiang Bai Ju arrives at the gravesite where Jin Xiao Yu works. He’s got flowers! But they’re white... Then he sees Lin Nuo Yan with Jin Xiao Yu and immediately hides. He asks himself why he’s hiding. I’m asking this too, like from before. He’s clearly jealous at the prolonged handshake between Lin Nuo Yan and Jin Xiao Yu. Once Lin Nuo Yan leaves, Jiang Bai Ju reveals himself.
Jiang Bai Ju: You earthlings, is this how you date [at a gravesite]? *Side-eyes his love rival who left*Jin Xiao Yu: ... You’re here...to look for me?Jiang Bai Ju: You think too much. I’ve bought flowers, so obviously, I’m not here for you.Jin Xiao Yu rolls her eyes: Who you buying the flowers for? Your ex-girlfriend? Does she live here? *Points to the gravesite* Ouch, lol.
Jiang Bai Ju ignores her because he's here to visit his late comrade (Lao Chen). They fought in the war together. He remembers they were fans of a singer (Chen Mei Sha), which means that singer wasn’t his lover!. Lao Chen had also told him admiring a singer is different from loving someone. *nudgenudge* It also turns out Jiang Bai Ju set his grave right next to Lao Chen’s ex-fiancee (who married someone else because he left for war). Jin Xiao Yu is aghast. That’s loathsome. Even in death, Lao Chen has to watch the woman he loves married to someone else. I concur! Jiang Bai Ju smirks perversely. He finds it interesting. I find it sick.
Jiang Bai Ju: You don’t understand men. (I don’t)Jin Xiao Yu retorts: You don’t understand virtuosity. Jack of all asses. (She modified a saying that is supposed to be "Jack of all trades" but instead of “trades” she said “wickedness”, but I thought a-hole was more fitting)
Jin Xiao Yu aims hand guns at him and pews him to death. She doesn’t quite stop in time when he turns around, but she also doesn’t care that he saw anyway. While he’s staring at her, he remembers Lao Chen’s words: "Everything right now is laid out by fate ever so perfectly"
After paying their respects, Jiang Bai Ju and Jin Xiao Yu lie on the specimen table. He wants to experience death (because he can’t die). However, he doesn’t get why Jin Xiao Yu is lying down too.
Jin Xiao Yu with a sweet timbre in her voice: To experience what it’s like to lie down with you~ Hahaha. Dude, you asked for it.
He can’t lie down anymore. He sits up, and suggests she date more (and stop unleashing her dynamic flirting skills on him). She doesn't have the time nor will she have the time... :(. Her teacher had taken her to hospital after hospital, carrying hopes for the future. Now, whenever he sees someone breathing – actually, not even breathing but panting works too – he’d want to introduce him to her. LOL. Jiang Bai Ju pities the “Panter”. In her perspective, she would want the Panter to only remember their beautiful memories and move on, find new love. In his perspective, her wishes on the Panter are just her selfish wishes. That Panter may never move on because just thinking of good food will remind him of her. He lets out a sigh and closes his eyes. Jin Xiao Yu watches him closely with sparkling eyes. He tells her to not stare. She’s astounded he can hear her staring at him as he wiggles his ears. She cutely pokes him and asks if he ever loved someone. Other than his parents, he has never fallen in love with anyone. Perfect-o.
[Ep9] Jin Xiao Yu brings up a nifty suggestion: "Why don’t we date! Just like regular people!” Always a bundle of surprises. Jiang Bai Ju looks at her, incredulous. His heart starts hurting and he holds her hand to stop the pain. Poor guy’s heart cannot handle her. Meanwhile, she thinks he accepted her proposal by holding her hand. No. He wonders where she learned to scam others. Why? Did she scam your heart? (; If he’s not going to accept, Jin Xiao Yu demands he let go. He ignores her and lies down on the specimen table again, still holding her hand. You two, can you find a proper bed, at a hotel or anywhere but a morgue! Jin Xiao Yu smiles flirtatiously. If he’s not letting go, fine. She gently twirls her fingers out of his hand, but he catches her index finger with his pinky. Their hands stay mutually intertwined by that one connection. His hands are really pretty btw.
This is the first time Jin Xiao Yu held a man’s hand. She’s fascinated and makes sure he knows it, lol. She lightly swings his hand, asking him to reconsider.
Jin Xiao Yu: I said I want to date you~ Do you hear me?
He’s smiling with his eyes closed, but then Teacher is approaching the room. Jin Xiao Yu covers him up like a corpse and lies to Teacher that she’s here all alone. Once the Teacher is gone, Jiang Bai Ju sits up at the moment she turns around. Their proximity bothers her. It always does, but he’s unaffected. Instead, he compliments her Teacher for being handsome. Gramps, not the grandpa, look at the girl in front of you!
Grandma Dao visits the Qian brothers who are on their own golf property. Qian Cheng was excited, thinking Grandma is here to pick him up under Jiang Bai Ju’s orders. No princess, your young master is dating at a morgue and has completely forgotten you. Time to move on, buddy. Qian Cheng sulks when that’s not the case. Ha. Grandma isn’t here to pick him up per se, she’s shopping for venues to host her annual party. She’s interested in Qian Tu’s golf properties and promises Qian Tu that once Jiang Bai Ju has found a new custodian, Qian Cheng will have more than just a week off. Qian Tu feels used. He’s been sold twice to the same person (Qian Tu, his very own brother, lol).
Grandma comforts Qian Cheng: To be worthy of being sold means you’re precious. Hahaha.
At night, William gives Jin Xiao Yu instructions. From 11pm-1am, she’s not allowed to leave Jiang Bai Ju. However, these weren’t the instructions from Grandma Dao, who had wanted Jin Xiao Yu to watch from the sidelines. William is directly sending her to the mutated Jiang Bai Ju to scare her off. Qian Cheng worries for Jin Xiao Yu but William reminds him he’s been sold twice (because of Jin Xiao Yu). Pft.
Once inside the room, Jin Xiao Yu finds Jiang Bai Ju but she doesn’t know it’s him because he’s currently a monster. This explains the wolf howling that she heard on the first night. He topples over her and strangles her. She takes a good look at her monster and sees it’s Jiang Bai Ju. She caresses his face. His bulging veins flatten. His hand loosens.
At another building from afar, William’s Dad (Dad Dao) asks Grandma Dao if it’s really okay to let Jiang Bai Ju’s guardian be a complete stranger. What choice does she have? William doesn’t want to be the guardian. He has his dreams. Qian Cheng has his future too. Dad Dao speaks up for Jin Xiao Yu. Life should be equal, just because she’s dying, it doesn’t mean her life isn’t precious either. Grandma thinks it’s worth it. She admits to being selfish. She’s not afraid of going to hell to protect her children and her young master. She also believes in her judgment that Jin Xiao Yu is the right choice.
William tells Qian Cheng about Jiang Bai Ju and how he saved his great grandfather. They met in Shenlong Snow Mountain (or Godly Dragon Snow Mountain) which no longer exists. William ruminates the idea that Jin Xiao Yu’s origins could be from there too hence why she can cure his mutations. Qian Cheng wonders out loud what if their young master kills the only person who can cure him...
... and we’re finally back to our couple!!
Jiang Bai Ju regains consciousness. He wants to escape from Jin Xiao Yu’s grasp but she doesn’t let go. Her hands are still cradling his face. She remembers all the time he held her hand when he was in pain.
Jin Xiao Yu: You must have suffered.
Jiang Bai Ju doesn’t speak but his voiceover reminds us that he can’t have any companion and neither can she. To regular people, they are abnormal existences. He has suffered. They both have suffered. Jiang Bai Ju quivers in her hands. He’s about to cry.
Jin Xiao Yu: You’re an immortal... was it really painful?
Jiang Bai Ju gets up and wipes his tears. Now he realizes the contract between Grandma and Jin Xiao Yu was more than just moving in. He mulls that Grandma Dao sold him for his grandson. To be worthy of being sold means you’re precious, hun! Jin Xiao Yu has more important questions for him.
Jin Xiao Yu: Did you risk your life to save me all those times because I’m your fast-acting painkiller? LOL.Jiang Bai Ju: Your efficacy is poor and the cost is tremendous.Jin Xiao Yu: Before me, is this how you spent all your nights? Later, Jiang Bai Ju was saved by an unknown man (who had a white horse) Jiang Bai Ju's name means White Colt (a young horse). Meanwhile Jin Xiao Yu means (Gold) Little Fish. Just as he was about to leave the mountain, the enemy (Japanese, ofc) bombs it which lead to an avalanche. The Snow Mountain collapsed and disappeared. While escaping, Jiang Bai Ju saved another man who is Great Grandfather Dao.
It’s sunrise. Jiang Bai Ju and Jin Xiao Yu have stayed up all night. She asks about his heart aches. It will hurt whenever he’s excited. This makes her realize a vital point. He’s only giving her 200RMB when she’s this useful to him! That’s abuse! He directs her attention to the fact that she can cure him. She’s not curious because if he had known why, he would have told her already. Smart girl. Instead, Jin Xiao Yu is more entertained with the idea that he’s now in her hands now.
Jiang Bai Ju: Please don't smile like a criminal. Whether or not you’re my guardian is my decision to make.Jin Xiao Yu: Old gramps, Let me tell you, I’m not only your guardian, I’m your pain med.Jiang Bai Ju: Pain med? You only last a year. Ouch. A year to me is nothing.
Now that Jin Xiao Yu knows his story, she wants to help him find the cure (for herself as well). He won’t let her. She dares him, “You don’t dare to? You’re afraid of failure?”
Jiang Bai Ju: Yes. I am afraid, afraid that by the end it’s all hopeless. After you die, you don’t have an ounce of responsibility, but I will live forever. Alone.
Jiang Bai Ju gets up to leave but she slams the door, giving him a bidong. She even swirls this big guy around. She confronts him if he’s afraid she’ll be in danger. He doesn’t admit it. Jin Xiao Yu is relentless. She really wants to join him on the search for a cure.
Jin Xiao Yu gives him a back hug: “Oppa! Ahjussi! Old Gramps!”Jiang Bai Ju is helplessly surrounded by her arms: I can’t bring you. You’re a “hole” (a trap or a liability).Jin Xiao Yu: How am I a trap? I’m already not afraid of death and I’m willing to play with you!
Jiang Bai Ju raises his voice at her, which makes the eavesdroppers (Qian Cheng and William) concerned. They're just about to grab the keycard to unlock the door. Jin Xiao Yu threatens Jiang Bai Ju that if he doesn’t cooperate then she’ll stay hugging him and his boys will misunderstand him. Jiang Bai Ju sighs and gives in. Why fight her in the first place?
Side Story: Tan Yue Ran successfully approached Fu Liang and although he seems nicer to her, he’s planning to leave the city, away from the heartbreak and is ready to move on. Tan Yue Ran’s heart starts hurting.
Brother Moments: Qian Tu is the type of brother who would smile like a girl when Qian Cheng calls. Pft. When Qian Cheng is worried about his young master, Qian Tu would give him advice on how to be a guardian. Naive Qian Cheng is all ears, but the “guardian” Qian Tu is referring to is the relationship between a man towards a woman. The advice: a girl’s problems are always sweet responsibilities. Lol. Qian Cheng is annoyed with the useless advice and suggests another game: whoever remains silent the longest wins. Qian Tu loses within a second (not like he tried anyway).
[Ep10] William accompanies Qian Cheng to his therapy, but is soon kicked out for snoring too loud. In the hallway, he meets Cheng Wei Lan who’s here to inquire the psychologist/psychiatrist about Tan Yue Ran. They chat a bit and she asks if his therapy failed, lol. William is like he’s given up on therapy, ha. He answers her seriously that he’s just waiting for a friend. She asks how long his friend will take. He sighs that his trauma will probably never recover. She meant his therapy session, lol. Sarcasm sprinkled everywhere.
Qian Tu finds Tan Yue Ran’s place and brings Jiang Bai Ju along. No one’s home, but Qian Tu has keys.

Once they’re inside, they see pictures of Fu Liang plastered on the wall. There’s a big red X on Cheng Wei Lan. Good thing Cheng Wei Lan is already with William and Qian Cheng. Since it’s her first time seeing Qian Cheng, William introduces him as Jin Xiao Yu’s love rival, hahaha. Cheng Wei Lan calls Jin Xiao Yu to double check if these weirdos are the right guys. On the phone, she’s like One is the guy who stole the samples and the other one has a face that looks like everyone owes him. Bingo! Those are the guys, and they heard everything she said.
Fu Liang is kidnapped by Tan Yue Ran. She’s so disillusioned, she thinks she is his girlfriend because she has her heart. Fu Liang is saved by Jiang Bai Ju and co. Fu Liang tells Tan Yue Ran to love herself for who she is. She’s calmer now and lets him feel her pulse to remember his real girlfriend. Fu Liang acknowledges the pulse is indeed different. This alerts Jin Xiao Yu who has a bit of medical knowledge. The heart rate shouldn’t be that different for any human being. It’s an irregular heart rate. Tan Yue Ran faints. (After Tan Yue Ran recovers, it seems there might be a bit of romance between her and Zhang Quan Zhan)
William receives a call from “Xue (Plate) Wan Wan”. The ‘plate’ symbolizes her big and round face, and her glass like heart. Wooooow. William hangs up on her. Then he receives a call from “Robber Doctor”. It’s Cheng Wei Lan because she’s the robber who stole his heart. He picks up immediately. She’s calling to confirm if he’s really donating and he takes the chance to ask her for lunch. Cheng Wei Lan suggests the hospital canteen. She pays for it and Canteen Lady is tutting at William for eating off of her. Cheng Wei Lan follows the flow, and jokes that her mother is rushing her to marry and that she’d suffice for such a man as long as there’s a man. Cheng Wei Lan is only entertaining William to learn more about Jiang Bai Ju and if he’s dating Jin Xiao Yu.
Jin Xiao Yu and Jiang Bai Ju are baking a cake. She needs help with the icing, so he takes her hand to guide her. Is that a goldfish themed cake with blue icing as the sea? They realize they’re a little too close. To lighten up the awkward mood, she tells him the cake is for his 100th year old birthday. He doesn’t celebrate his birthday, though. Jin Xiao Yu ignores his whining and puts the birthday crown on him. She also scares him with the birthday popper. I think he takes revenge on her by celebrating her 25th birthday. These two don’t like celebrating birthdays, ha. He wants to die and he’s stuck at 100. She wants to live and she’s stuck at 25. Jiang Bai Ju encourages Jin Xiao Yu to make a wish and then curiously asks her what she wished for (so that he can fulfill it? :D)
Jin Xiao Yu: My wish...is to date!! Pft.
[Ep11] Jiang Bai Ju almost rolls his eyes. He asks, "Do you even like me?" Jin Xiao Yu was going to answer [yes] out of reflex but Jiang Bai Ju knows her well enough to remind her, "Think before you answer." Jin Xiao Yu hesitates. LOL. Jiang Bai Ju sighs. He's different from this generation who date as long as they don't hate each other and break up whenever they want.

The sun sets. Jin Xiao Yu is in bed (alone, thought I needed to clarify that). She admits to herself, “I like you (Jiang Bai Ju).” The next morning, Jiang Bai Ju is yawning. Oh, he couldn’t sleep, huh? He’s awkward when he sees Jin Xiao Yu, while she smiles sweetly. They talk over breakfast about Tan Yue Ran and who could be controlling her. If they catch them, then perhaps he can cure her Rare Disease. Jin Xiao Yu asks what if they can’t.

The ghost is a human – a VVIP patient at a hospital (Grandma Xu). She’s undergoing radiation therapy and had to sneak out in order to visit her late husband.
Jin Xiao Yu and Lin Nuo Yan send Grandma back to the hospital. Grandma Xu has some words for Jin Xiao Yu, “I lived life so long and I can’t even choose how to die. Isn't it all so pointless?” Jin Xiao Yu ruminates on those words.
Jin Xiao Yu is back at home right when Jiang Bai Ju is locking himself down to a chair (think amusement park rides). Jin Xiao Yu plays with his hand as she shares the encounter with Grandma Xu. He comments that Daughter Xu is quite filial for giving her mother VVIP treatment. Jin Xiao Yu sighs. Feeling loved isn’t something that can be quantified by money. Jiang Bai Ju doesn’t get Jin Xiao Yu's melancholy.
Lin Nuo Yan gets Jin Xiao Yu's sadness, though. It’s more painful “dying” than it is to be dead. He knows that Jin Xiao Yu reunites with Grandma Xu’s pain. He tells her not to give up and that he’s still researching her Rare Disease. Lin Nuo Yan cheers her up and pats her head. This exact moment is snapped by super duper jealous Qian Cheng. Lol, we don’t have an annoying 2FL, but we’ve got a Qian Cheng! And so jealous Qian Cheng strikes again! He tattles to Jiang Bai Ju, showing him the picture and concluding that he’s only Jin Xiao Yu's spare tire.
Jin Xiao Yu: You’re asking so much. Do you want to be my boyfriend or something?Jiang Bai Ju: I can’t ask you as a friend?Jin Xiao Yu laughs: Why would a friend ask so much? Jiang Bai Ju is so angry, he leaves even though he knows it’s 11pm. He has one last thing to say to her: he hates (loves) schemes; he hates being tested. He enters his room and Qian Cheng helps him slam the door on Jin Xiao Yu. William rubs it in and Jin Xiao Yu accuses him of snitching on her (about Lin Nuo Yan). William immediately sells his buddy that it was Qian Cheng. Qian Cheng did say that one of these days, there’s going to be a death match being them, haha.
Grandma Xu inquires her PSW about medical assistance in dying (MAID) but the PSW changes the topic, and suggests they go out for a walk under the sun tomorrow. This topic really shouldn’t be brushed under the rug. The next day, Bella (patient; a little girl) accidentally knocks over Grandma Xu’s thermos and it's the family members arguing over it. Bella quietly apologizes to Grandma Xu (who is fine with it), and introduces herself as an actress. She also asks for Grandma’s name, but Grandma is like it’s fine calling me Grandma Xu. It’s not fine for Bella. “You’re not my Grandma.” Grandma Xu smiles and says her name is Xu Nan. Shoot, should I call her Xu Nan too? I think it’s so sweet for Bella to ask Grandma for her name. I wonder how long it’s been since Grandma heard her own name. Bella teaches Grandma how to make a fist prop. They’re buddies now! Bella makes a deal with her, “If I die and see you on the other side, you have to take care of me!” Grandma Xu Nan laughs and agrees. ): ..Aw...
Grandma Dao visits Jin Xiao Yu, which is timely because Jin Xiao Yu is in dear need of some advice. She shouldn’t have bullied him because she knew he liked her. Lastly, she never treated him like a tool for love.
Jin Xiao Yu: You don’t have to play bi-dong (wall-dong) or bed-dong with me. You don’t have to play the overbearing CEO. We can just be ourselves. The next day, Lin Nuo Yan shows up at Jiang Bai Ju’s office. He’s the spokesperson for the organ donation that Qian’ai Group supports. He’s here for suit fitting. Jiang Bai Ju ain’t happy to know that his suit will be on Lin Nuo Yan. He won’t even shake his hand and only shakes his index finger. Petty much, lol.
[Ep13] Lin Nuo Yan trips and falls onto Jiang Bai Ju. Perfectly timed, Jin Xiao Yu witnesses her boyfriend hugging another man. She, the girlfriend, excuses herself. The boys talk. Under Jiang Bai Ju’s indirect questions, Lin Nuo Yan reveals he likes Jin Xiao Yu and if liking her is affecting her relationship with her boyfriend, then her boyfriend is too delicate. Delicate guy in front of ya. Elsewhere, Jin Xiao asks Qian Cheng if his young master likes males or females, or both. Qian Cheng answers very simply that his master likes complete human beings.
Jin Xiao Yu: No wonder he doesn’t like William. Lol!

I’ve never been to one, but I can assure you no Chinese physiotherapist/massager will cover your face, burn you incense and bow to you like you’re a corpse. She’s giving him the death treatment and he doesn’t even know LOL. She’s never served a living man and probably will never serve him, and so she wishes him health and happiness for as long as he lives. Jiang Bai Ju answers that once William “leaves” then he can be happy. It’s a little ambiguous what he meant by “leave”. So much hate on William! xD She begs him to stop talking. It’s scaring her. He’s supposed to play her corpse during this service. He promises to stay silent and stationary. As she’s massaging, she shares with him her feelings towards the lady who died earlier and Grandma Xu Nan since he’s her boyfriend now. For Grandma, although her daughter bought her VIP care as a form of love, this love to Grandma is heavy and burdensome. The daughter wants the mother to live longer, but the longer the mother lives, the more she suffers.
The scene switches to Daughter Xu. She’s crying alone in the hospital. Her husband bought a new thermos for Grandma since the other one broke. Aw, the husband is so supportive. But love is love, and Xue Wan Wan loves William. Qian Cheng asks what’s in it for him if he tells her. She can hook him up with a new celebrity (Yang Xue'er) for their event since the previous one (Qin Rong) ditched. It’s a deal. Qian Cheng gives her the deets. Xue Wan Wan heads to the hospital and, voila, William is there with Cheng Wei Lan. Xue Wan Wan hides in a corner and checks her phone to confirm the picture, which is Jin Xiao Yu. LOL. Unfortunately for Qian Cheng, Xue Wan Wan figures out William’s real love interest: Cheng Wei Lan.
At the hospital, a nurse is bitten by a dead client. Cheng Wei Lan says it’s only postmortem spasm and nothing spooky. Then on the corpse, she finds cutaneous markings that are just like the ones on the oncologist. After analyzing the evidence, Jin Xiao Yu and Jiang Bai Ju conclude that whoever is experimenting with these corpses have made improvements. When the oncologist died, he was motionless, but this new corpse can bite. It seems this shady organization will need an influx of test subjects (e.g. Tan Yue Ran).
Our couple's analysis is interrupted when grumpy Qian Cheng shoots Jin Xiao Yu a death glare. He’s angry because William is sick and it was Jin Xiao Yu who picked him up from Cheng Wei Lan’s hospital (and it was William who wanted to stay with Cheng Wei Lan) and therefore his fever has nothing to do with Jin Xiao Yu, lol. For the night, Qian Cheng will be sleeping with William to care for him. Aw!!!!
[Side Story] Daughter Xu pays for the hospital fees. She sighs at the amount but she knows that if she was sick her mother would do the same for her. While she’s outside, Grandma Xu Nan tippytoes over a window sill. Luckily her PSW stops her from what looks like a suicide attempt. Okay, but why is this PSW not informing the patient’s family and caregiver?! Then a random family member approaches Daughter Xu and introduces her to a miracle medication.
[Ep14] Grandma Xu heals! Miraculously.
Qian Tu updates Jiang Bai Ju that the miraculous pills affect dopamine secretion. Side effects can include Parkinson’s Disease and schizoaffective disorder (e.g. Tan Yue Ran’s hallucinations). Jiang Bai Ju is interested in the pill because of its radioactivity. He believes the rock he fell on had the same radioactive element. He brings up the Chernobyl disaster so Qian Tu can understand. (I feel like Show is trying to sound smart by bringing this up so I want to sound smart by putting this in when it’s really unnecessary.)
Jin Xiao Yu’s part-time job tonight is dancing. She trips. Jiang Bai Ju balances her, keeping her close. She calls him out for flirting but she’s the one who has her paws on his chest. Jin Xiao Yu grins and (reluctantly) returns her hand to his shoulders. He changes the topic to her forensic book. She goes in length about corpse preservation to prevent flies.
Jiang Bai Ju: Speak Human. Meaning 1) say something he can understand and 2) keep the conversation to the LivingJin Xiao Yu: If I kill you and then preserve you in a plastic bag, you won’t attract flies. At least the “living” convo lasted a second.Jiang Bai Ju: Wow~Jin Xiao Yu: Wow~~Jiang Bai Ju: This is the most romantic thing I’ve heard in the decades that I’ve lived.
Jin Xiao Yu trips again. She falls over him on the table, caging him between her arms and the table. Jin Xiao Yu smiles flirtatiously, "I think you have destroyed my desire of wanting to be single until old age.” He jests that she can’t blame him when she’s the one dying young. Her emphasis is on not being single and his is on dying, of course.
Jiang Bai Ju flips her over: But...I never promised to be your boyfriend. What!Jin Xiao Yu: So you teaching me how to dance is harbouring unfathomable motivesJiang Bai Ju: Who knew your balance was so badJin Xiao Yu: Then I should let you experience what it feels like to have your body swarmed by insects. Translate: She's going to kill him and not giving him the plastic bag... xD
He pulls her up and they dance again. Good! Now he gets a plastic bag when she kills him.
Grandma Xu Nan is hospitalized again. The pill is not miraculous (as we all know). She almost killed her own daughter had it not been for Jin Xiao Yu and Jiang Bai Ju rushing over. At the hospital, Jin Xiao Yu comforts Daughter Xu. "As we grow older, we lose our names. We become so and so’s Mom, Grandma, Aunt." It’s the same for men (Dad, Grandfather, Uncle). Slowly, our identity is forgotten. Now that Grandma Xu Nan is at the end of her life, Daughter Xu should communicate with her mother, recognize who she is, and learn about her. Just like what Bella did – ask for her name, and her job. Bella gave Grandma Xu a sense of identity and a way to be important to others (e.g. organ/body donations)
Jealous Qian Cheng is here again! He tells Jin Xiao Yu that Jiang Bai Ju has dinner with Yang Xue’er, a pretty celebrity. He smiles his evil 2FLML smirk. The next day, jealous Jin Xiao Yu recruits Lin Nuo Yan to reserve at the same fancy restaurant because it's exclusive for members. She doesn’t have a dress for such a high-end place so she dresses in her sleeping gown. No wonder the dress looked weird! Once she sees Jiang Bai Ju and pretty celebrity together, Jin Xiao Yu loses her spunk. She really is jealous, the sad kind.
[Ep15] This episode, we rewind a little bit to see that it was Qian Cheng who gave Lin Nuo Yan the membership all to make Jin Xiao Yu jealous. Qian Cheng, you little wretch. He scores big time. Not only is Jin Xiao Yu jealous, but so is Jiang Bai Ju. Furthermore, Qian Cheng’s claws reach deeper than just Lin Nuo Yan. He allied with Yang Xue’er too. William warns her she teamed up with the wrong guy. Although Qian Cheng is devious, I’m more surprised at how perceptive William was in figuring out everything.
Jiang Bai Ju interrogates Jin Xiao Yu. Both are clearly jealous. She only ever let him see her sleeping grown. But this is a sleeping gown! He yells back, “This isn’t about the sleeping gown!” Alright, fine, it’s really not about the sleeping gown. I know I shouldn’t be laughing in this emotionally charged scene, but hahaha. As he lectures her for her needless jealousy, he’s panting. Oh, our “Panter” from Ep8.
Jin Xiao Yu: You’re right. I’m jealous but I’m not jealous of her beauty or her money. I’m jealous she can live longer than me. If I can live longer like her, then I can be with you longer.Jiang Bai Ju: Can we not meander on this matter? From day one, I knew your life was short. This is how I lived for the past century. After you die – He stops himself from finishing his sentence and restarts – After you die I will still be the same.Jin Xiao Yu: You won’t. You’re going to kill yourself in the cruelest way to leave this world.
She’s right. He made an oath with Grandma Dao and never told her. He tries to hug her but she resists him. She wants to break up.
The next morning, our (non) couple sit down for breakfast. Their chopsticks clash. Qian Cheng slides the plate to Jiang Bai Ju. William passes some radish to Jin Xiao Yu, but she wants the one Jiang Bai Ju has. Jiang Bai Ju relinquishes. “Since you like eating from two plates anyway.” The tension between the couple makes Qian Cheng and William full. There’s a saying in Chinese “花心大萝卜” which associates radish with being flirty and unfaithful, and so there might be a little added meaning to Jin Xiao Yu refusing the radish. Also, isn’t it such a coincidence that William is giving her the radish?
Our couple can even fight while exiting a door. They’re stuck because neither will give way.
Jin Xiao Yu: If you’re late, you might lose ten million. If I’m late, it’s only a few hundred bucks. Who’s afraid of who?Jiang Bai Ju: Right. But I can afford to lose a few millions. Can you afford to lose a few hundred. OOOOO! Brutal because it’s true.Jin Xiao Yu: You think you’re so great because you have money, huh?Jiang Bai Ju: It’s not about having money, but the ability to spend it.
Jiang Bai Ju wins (physically and verbally). However, he's unhappy. At the office, William mischievously asks, Oh, where is my master? William isn’t looking for Jiang Bai Ju’s body, but his soul. Grumpy Jiang Bai Ju says neither his body nor soul wants to talk to him. Aw. William is my favourite right now! Wise and childish. A sensible jerk! William gloats. Now he can badmouth Jiang Bai Ju’s body all he wants without his soul listening. (Not happening.)
Qian Cheng retreats to his own home (still full from the couple’s fight!). Qian Tu is very happy to see his little rat brother. Qian Cheng is complacent too. He happily shares that a breakup is imminent for Jiang Bai Ju.
Qian Tu: If you weren’t my brother, I’d beat you up. Yes!
Qian Tu assesses his brother: he needs to fall in love. LOL. A fight won’t always lead to a breakup, it can also deepen their relationship. Qian Cheng loses his smugness.
At night when it’s time for Jin Xiao Yu’s part-time, she’s only offering a foot bath together. Take it or leave it. Sulky Jiang Bai Ju was hoping to hold hands and make up (as William had advised). It ain’t happening! He soaks his feet with hers and notes her small feet. Jin Xiao Yu’s got an attitude tonight and is like, You have a problem with that? Then she’s busy on her phone and laughing at a picture Lin Nuo Yan sent, making Jiang Bai Ju very curious. I fail to see anything in that picture. I think that’s the point.
The next day, Lin Nuo Yan confesses to Jin Xiao Yu. She refuses him but keeps their friendship. She also draws a clear line – she won’t share her relationship problems with him anymore. He happily accepts those terms. But then he’ll suggestively hold her hand... Hm ;/
Jiang Bai Ju tails Jin Xiao Yu. Qian Cheng is his driver. He’s exploding with jealousy when he sees Lin Nuo Yan holding her hand. Just as he’s about to get out of the car, Qian Cheng locks him inside. After Jiang Bai Ju calms down, he self disparages. Towards him, Jin Xiao Yu was merely infatuated. Lin Nuo Yan, a normal human, is the right one for her. You hear that, Qian Cheng? It’s his heart breaking. Tsktsk.
[Ep16] William is practically an inhabitant at Cheng Wei Lan’s office. Everyone at the hospital knows him as the guy who’s eating soft rice (吃軟飯; idiom for living off a woman). Ha. William doesn’t care. He’s rich anyway.
Qian Cheng prepared Jin Xiao Yu’s favourite durian for her (when he can’t stand the smell of it). She thinks he wants to poison her now. No, he just wants her to make up with Jiang Bai Ju. Over durian? And not even an apology. Puh-lease. She won’t. A tear drops as she tells him the deal Jiang Bai Ju made with Grandma Dao. Grandma thought Jin Xiao Yu could convince him to live, but now Jin Xiao Yu knows she can’t. He will still cruelly kill himself. Nothing will change. She was never part of his past (e.g. Grandma Dao). She will never be part of his future (e.g. Yang Xue’er). She shouldn’t have appeared in his life.
Wang Quan De (Jin Xiao Yu’s colleague) is getting married. Teacher reminisces about the first and last non-colleague wedding he attended was Cheng Wei Lan’s mother’s. He doesn’t get invites because of his profession. It’s inauspicious. He believes it too when it took Cheng Wei Lan’s mother ten years to be pregnant.
Xue Wan Wan visits Cheng Wei Lan at the hospital. The latter isn’t intimated (because she doesn’t care). She even pinches Xue Wan Wan’s cheeks calling her “dumb and cute”. Xue Wan Wan isn’t here to get her cheeks pinched. She wants to know about William’s dance partner for the gala. It’s not Cheng Wei Lan. Apparently, it’s a mystery. Although William doesn’t like Xue Wan Wan’s face that looks like a plate, it seems Cheng Wei Lan does...xD
Jin Xiao Yu hides in the washroom from Cheng Wei Lan. She’s bleeding from the nose and her heart.
Cheng Wei Lan checks on her: You locked yourself inside for so long... If there’s anything bothering you, you can tell me. Must you share it with your toilet? Am I less than a toilet to you?
Jin Xiao Yu’s nosebleed and tears stop. Cheng Wei Lan asks if she needs a drink. She needs her man. Jin Xiao Yu wants to go to the gala. And so our girls sneak in.
Jiang Bai Ju also has plans to make up with Jin Xiao Yu! Gossipy Grandma Dao is curious. In William-style, Jiang Bai Ju says that he still has a chance – insert b-boy hand moves – especially when the girl won’t listen to him explain. Salute! I’m not sure William’s influence on Jiang Bai Ju is a good thing xD Jiang Bai Ju also says William has a plan, which is why his dance partner is unknown.
Excited, Grandma Dao dances her way into the dressing room. Jin Xiao Yu and Cheng Wei Lan happen to sneak into the room and so Grandma Dao assigns stylists to dress up the girls.
Yang Xue’er invites Jiang Bai Ju to dance. She also shoos away the waiter who’s carrying food. Jiang Bai Ju looked so disappointed, ha. Jin Xiao Yu watches miserably as her food is being stolen before her eyes. She too joins the dance floor, but her partner is Lin Nuo Yan. Now the jealous party watch is two! Jiang Bai Ju’s heart aches with every step; he’s reminded of waltzing with Jin Xiao Yu. The pain is so overwhelming, he crouches over. Jin Xiao Yu rushes over to hold his hand. Did Lin Nuo Yan notice the touch? Jiang Bai Ju courteously bows to Yang Xue’er and then leaves with Jin Xiao Yu, and not without side-eyeing his rival first.
And here is William’s mysterious dance partner: Yang Xue’er. He’s saving her from embarrassment (as if he predicted this). As for Lin Nuo Yan, Cheng Wei Lan invites him to dance (but he refuses). I don’t think she likes him in that sense....probably just like William, giving the loser a bit of sympathy.
Jin Xiao Yu flings off Jiang Bai Ju’s hand.
Jiang Bai Ju: Why did you fling me? Also can be interpreted as “Why did you break up with me?” What amazing thing did you do (for your attitude to be so high and mighty)? And you’re glaring at me? I’m pretty sure Show knows that no one likes the wrist grab moment, and having him accuse her of flinging him makes her speechless.Jin Xiao Yu moves her mouth but she’s so angry she can’t form wordsJiang Bai Ju: What do you want to say?Jin Xiao Yu hollers: Why are you being so mean to me!!!!!!Jiang Bai Ju softens up: Was I being mean? LOL. Yes!
Jin Xiao Yu starts crying. Her heart is fragile, she says. Really, lol xD. It took a lot of courage for her to be here and all to see him spinning with another girl. Show says “spinning" in a cute way, which Show has used a couple of times mostly to mock dramas for having the overused “spinning” romantic scenes.
Jin Xiao Yu: My heart is like a window-paper, one poke, and it'll break.
Jiang Bai Ju is clearly amused. First, I don’t know what window paper is. Did she mean glass? Is he laughing because she said the wrong thing or that he knows her heart isn’t ‘thin’ (fragile)?Jiang Bai Ju laughs: Oh what paper is so thin? Your heart is it?He pokes at her chest area. Did it break? xDJin Xiao Yu is offended: Glutinous rice paper is that thin! (Think: mochi rolled very, very flat)
She hits him on the chest for making fun of her. His window heart must be made of brick. He relents, Alright it’s thin. She goes on to explain that for the past 24 years she had asked why god was so unfair to give her the disease. After meeting him, she secretly forgave god because her disease let them fall in love. However, her heart has been breaking because of him. She goes on about the deal with Grandma Dao, dancing with Yang Xue’er, etc. Jiang Bai Ju silences her with a kiss. “There’s nothing a kiss can’t solve!” - Grandma Dao
[Ep17] Jiang Bai Ju got the same tip from another Dao, William Dao: “There’s nothing a kiss and some skewers can’t fix.” He assures Jin Xiao Yu that he has no plans of suicide anymore. As for the other girls in his life: Grandma Dao may share his past, Yang Xue’er may share his future, but Grandma is family and Yang Xue’er is business.
Jiang Bai Ju: And you (Jin Xiao Yu) will be my life’s most brilliant memory.
Jiang Bai Ju bolds his statement with a magician hand move to symbolize she’s the bling-bling in his life. Jin Xiao Yu puckers and pouts that she’s not a magician’s rabbit. Jiang Bai Ju swoops in with a kiss. Because that’s what puckering means, right? Then he cutely nudges her to forgive him. She smiles. They also arrive at a consensus that everything is William and Qian Cheng's fault. Not William!
Odd Coupling: Cheng Wei Lan is popular with the girls at the party with her knowledge on Chinese medicine. William is attracted too, making Xue Wan Wan jealous. She exposes Cheng Wei Lan as an impostor. To make her stop talking, Cheng Wei Lan pinches her cheeks. Xue Wan Wan retaliates and now both girls are squeezing each other’s cheeks. These side characters sure are unconventional.
The next morning, our foursome are having breakfast. Jiang Bai Ju and Jin Xiao Yu snatches all the food for each other and our boys are left with nothing to eat. Hahaha. The boys who want to eat can’t eat. The couple who has all the food are full from staring lovingly at each other. I guess you can say our boys are full too: from 狗糧 = Dog food = PDA. Now it’s time to leave for work. Jin Xiao Yu and Jiang Bai Ju are stuck at the door because each wants the other to go first. Jiang Bai Ju lifts her up and they exit together. William almost swears. LMAO. Qian Cheng facepalms. Ahahaha. Qian Cheng you reap what you sow xD. Finally, our couple depart in their respective vehicles. William floors the accelerator, haha. Jiang Bai Ju is so upset from being cut off from his goodbyes, he draws his legs up and grouches.
Grandma Xu passes away. (Btw, she got to spend quality time with her daughter.) It’s Lin Nuo Yan who updates Jin Xiao Yu on how the corpses are similar to the previous ones.
Another day and we’ve got the same jealous Jiang Bai Ju. He’s glum about Jin Xiao Yu volunteering with Lin Nuo Yan. Jin Xiao Yu finds his jealousy adorable. Being complimented isn’t enough, Jiang Bai Ju closes his eyes, telling her he’s waiting for a kiss. She smirks and kisses the tip of his nose. He’s ecstatic and sheepishly smiles. She postulates he must have paid 0.50RMB for William’s dating tips. Nope! Jiang Bai Ju beams that he spent 300RMB. He’s scammed, and yet still so happy.
Odd Coupling: Cheng Wei Lan and Jin Xiao Yu volunteer at Lin Luo Yan’s organ donation event. Xue Wan Wan is here to hang out with her rival! Forget William! xD When she spews nonsense again, Cheng Wei Lan pinches her cute cheek.
The Case: Officer Su (who’s investigating the oncologist/corpse) signs up as a donor. His son is blind and curiously asks his “bid daddy” whether he’s donating a mouth or a nose. Officer Su says he’s donating his eyes to him. Jin Xiao Yu and Lin Nuo Yan are taken back. That’s not how it works. Officer Su understands. He’s just trying to make it simple for his son who’s too young to understand. However, the son doesn’t want it. He just wants his daddy to be healthy. It’s okay that he can’t see. T_T. Well, whaddya know, Big Daddy is in a coma after a car accident. He was tailgating Zhao Shan, which seemed to have been a deliberate trap for Officer Su. Previously, Officer Su was also threatened with the safety of his son by an unknown caller to turnover evidence.
Odd Coupling: William, our novelist, takes inspiration from Jiang Bai Ju’s love story. Pst, Jiang Bai Ju has been designing a wedding dress for a while now. Jiang Bai Ju throws him out of the room. Qian Tu happens to catch Princess William. Swoon! William is taken by his princely Qian Tu, who is sickened and drops him. Ha! William and Cheng Wei Lan can be shipped with anyone, lol. In a way, I find them even more compatible.
At home, Jin Xiao Yu asks Jiang Bai Ju why he gardens. He’s trying to find the flowers from the Snow Mountain but has failed all these years Anyway, amidst the flowers, they’re about to kiss, but William accidentally interrupts. Jiang Bai Ju grumbles and regrets saving William’s great grandfather. Jin Xiao Yu gives him cute air kisses to make up for it. He’s in bliss.
The Case: Wen Yu is Officer Su’s wife. They’ve been married for less than a year. The son looks way older than that. For reasons, she suspects Jin Xiao Yu is the mistress, the person Officer Su has been wiring money to. Furthermore, his last call is to her. The call was to ensure his cornea would be donated. However, Jin Xiao Yu keeps that a secret when she realizes Officer Su’s “son” isn’t Wen Yu’s son.
[Ep18] Qian Cheng is at his therapy. He hallucinates about the girl he tried to save. I say “tried” because she must have died. The girl tells him he should have a new life and new friends. He shares with her that Jin Xiao Yu is his new friend. Then treat her like one! Then Qian Cheng bumps into Lin Nuo Yan, and lies that he’s here for a cold. Lin Nuo Yan gives him a mask so that you keep your cold to yourself. These boys are slowly becoming friends. This smells bad.
At home, the princesses (= William and Qian Cheng) inform Jiang Bai Ju that his girlfriend is accused of being a mistress. William teaches Jiang Bai Ju the sure way to cheer her up. William demonstrates by unbuttoning his own shirt and cupping his hand at the back of Jiang Bai Ju's waist to pull him close. Qian Cheng is not impressed, neither is Jiang Bai Ju, but monkey see, monkey do ~ Jiang Bai Ju unbuttons in front of Jin Xiao Yu ~ And he's smoother than William! But she buttons it back up for him. Haha.
Jin Xiao Yu is mainly stressed about Officer Su’s organ donation. His dying wish was to donate his cornea but Wen Yu won’t sign the documents. Not sure how organ donations work in China...I thought he already signed it... Jin Xiao Yu doesn’t understand Wen Yu. Her husband is already dying. Let the hate rest. Jiang Bai Ju understands, though. The hate is deep because Wen Yu loved deeply. He asks Jin Xiao Yu what her thoughts on marriage is. You. To her, it’s all about creating babies and how-to-create-babies, pft. So it’a all about sex! Jiang Bai Ju tuts.
Jiang Bai Ju: Marriage is one of the most delicate relationships. It’s two people who aren’t related by blood but will create a connection by blood. It’s two people who are the closest but there will always be the possibility of a betrayal. During a marriage, time can neglect it (忽略不计). Sometimes ten years, or twenty years is just a moment of time. But just one moment of time can change/enlighten our entire life. [Flashback: the ‘moment’ Wen Yu fell in love]
Jiang Bai Ju explains that Officer Su’s betrayal makes Wen Yu hate him but at the same time hate herself for choosing him. He also reveals he has another motive in this case. He wants Officer Su’s patient record because he finds his death suspicious. In exchange, he will help Jin Xiao Yu convince Wei Yu to sign the donation. Jin Xiao Yu flatly refuses.
Odd Coupling: Cheng Wei Lan is on the roof. William thinks she’s committing suicide and pulls her down. She fools him into jumping together, and he abandons her. She laughs at him and shares this is the place she relieves her stress. Her mother did so too and it’s the place her name was inspired. Wei Lan means ‘azure’. William also notices she took after her mother’s last name. Cheng Wei Lan shares her parents' love story: her dad had appendicitis; her mother was the surgeon; they fell in love at first sight and so he gave himself to her, which is why her last name is her mother’s .Wow. William, taking the cue, cries pain from his stomach. William, you sure you want an appendectomy? Cheng Wei Lan offers him a quick solution: she’ll push him off the building right here and now. Poof, his pain disappears.
The Case: Jin Xiao Yu is skeptical of Wen Yu. She’s making too much noise to find the mistress. Jin Xiao Yu’s intuition is spot on. Wen Yu reveals she knew of the boy and that she was harassed by a caller, threatening her for the investigation results or her husband could be accused of withholding evidence. Wei Yu is making noise to force the mistress out in hopes of knowing more about her husband.
Jin Xiao Yu brings home the patient record for Jiang Bai Ju. Um. Alright. She also has her pet goose on a leash that scares Jiang Bai Ju who can’t even sit properly on the chair. As he’s scanning over the document, Jin Xiao Yu updates him on Wen Yu (she’s a smoke bomb - all smoke and no bomb). Nonchalantly, he mumbles that she should really leave the investigations to the guys. Says the guy who fears geese. Jin Xiao Yu doesn’t want to listen to his bigotry. I know his character won’t be popular for saying stuff like this but I think it makes sense. He lived in that time period before the women’s movement. I respect the crew for not conforming with popularity, but sticking with appropriate characterization.
The next day, Jin Xiao Yu, Cheng Wei Lan and Xue Wan Wan chat about the case (without the names for patient confidentiality, but what the heck is that when she already gave the records to Jiang Bai Ju?). Xue Wan Wan finds the wife (Wen Yu) weird. Why would she be harassed for investigation details when it’s highly likely she doesn’t know anything? Cheng Wei Lan (underhandedly) praises Xue Wan Wan for her rare intelligence. Xue Wan Wan makes another deduction: the wife is lying about the call that no one can confirm. She must be covering up for her husband who's aiding the criminals. Jin Xiao Yu draws up a bigger hypothesis. If Officer Su is suspected, his investigations will be handed over to the SIU and that will only slow down the investigation, benefitting no one but the criminals. Is it just me or did Show jump throw a lot hoops to arrive at this conclusion?
Qian Tu investigates Officer Su’s too.
Meanwhile Jiang Bai Ju babysits the goose.
[Ep19] Wen Yu’s husband is pronounced dead. Jin Xiao Yu urgently convinces her to sign the donation papers. Time is life! Jin Xiao Yu swears the evidence is on the way. Wen Yu believes her (for the sake of her husband) and signs it. Then we all learn the child isn’t Officer Su’s but his colleague’s. Her husband was faithful.
Odd Coupling: William has some serious questions for Cheng Wei Lan. He fails to see any gains from the time and effort she pours into organ donations when she doesn’t get any extra pay and only extra criticisms from family members. Cheng Wei Lan was inspired by Jin Xiao Yu when she signed up for it. For Jin Xiao Yu it was a way to extend her life to/for others. If life can be extended so can hope (for the living). Cheng Wei Lan recounts the most beautiful ‘three’ words she heard: “I do.” Two words in English, but three in Chinese. It’s not the I-dos at weddings. It’s the I-dos from bereaved family members.
At Officer Su’s funeral, Jin Xiao Yu turns it into a wedding for Wen Yu who never had a wedding. Somehow. There’s a lot of hallucination involved. I appreciate the idea of it, though. Wen Yu is grateful and gives her the ‘wedding bouquet’. Jiang Bai Ju accepts it on behalf of Jin Xiao Yu. Is a marriage coming up?
Since Jiang Bai Ju is at the gravesite, he visits Lao Chen, his friend. He’s here to rub it in that he has a girlfriend and(!) she only likes him. Cruel, just cruel. I feel for Lao Chen! Jin Xiao Yu apologizes for her embarrassing boyfriend and goads him that he’s going to die single. Jiang Bai Ju swears he’ll haunt her as a ghost and chases her around the funeral site. Their laughter fills the gravesite. I don’t know if anyone finds this offensive, but I think it’s nice to be able to be happy when you visit someone you love.
It’s Jiang Bai Ju’s (real) birthday. Jiang Bai Ju makes his birthday wishes: a girlfriend for Qian Cheng and less girlfriends for William LOL. The last wish is for Jin Xiao Yu to not be his girlfriend. This shocks everyone. Romantic OST, on!
Jiang Bai Ju: I hope that when you leave this world, I can 祭拜 (ji bai; offer respect to a late relative). Omg even the proposal revolves around death.Jin Xiao Yu cuts him off: You want me to be your godmother! Am I right?
Even William and Qian Cheng are distracting Jiang Bai Ju from his (failed) proposal. William counts down from 3 to blow the candles together, but Qian Cheng blows it at 3, leaving everyone’s lips awkwardly puckered with nothing to blow.
Jiang Bai Ju sits alone outside. Jin Xiao Yu visits the gloomy birthday grandpa. He sighs that it’s nothing, he just failed at proposing today. That’s all. Jin Xiao Yu gives him a back hug. She accepts, “I do.” But not really. She wants to accept, but they promised to solve his immortality first. The last thing she wants is for him to change for her, for him to live for her. She wants him to live for himself because he wants to and not because she wants him to.
Just as our couple is about to kiss, our princesses interrupt. After quite a bit of struggle, the sworn rivals, Jin Xiao Yu and Qian Cheng, grab a group photo.
This drama is unexpectedly meaningful. This episode really, really hones in on its message: bringing awareness to organ donations. I think it is a choice everyone should be made aware of. A lot of lives can be saved from it. The ultimate choice is always yours, of course. Everyone has their valid reasons to (not) donate, but I think that knowing your choices is never a bad thing.
[Ep20] Qian Tu sneaks up on Jiang Bai Ju to give him a birthday present. It’s another princess snow globe. Hahaha. Jiang Bai Ju has a whole collection of it thanks to him. There’s another present: an invitation to his parents’ 40th wedding anniversary. Jiang Bai Ju will happily go because this year he has a dance partner. William and Qian Cheng are attending as well, which explains why they’re so busy on the phone. William is desperately rejecting Xue Wan Wan to be his partner. Qian Cheng is explaining to his parents that he has no girlfriend to bring. The princesses hang up and beg the couple that they need a partner. Why not go with each other xD William requests for someone who is elegant and presentable. Qian Cheng requests for someone who is breathing. LOL.
Qian Cheng gets Xue Wan Wan. Or not. She rejects him. Her family likes Qian Cheng and if she goes with him then she’ll never hear the end of it. Qian Cheng has no choices left because there’s only so many girls with compatible status.
William gets Cheng Wei Lan. Or more like he’s ‘threatening’ her into it. Jin Xiao Yu’s health checkup isn’t looking so great and Cheng Wei Lan is helping Jin Xiao Yu keep it from Jiang Bai Ju. In exchange for William’s silence, he wants a favour.
Cheng Wei Lan: Not dating.William agrees: Not dating. I just want you –Cheng Wei Lan: You can’t have my body. You can have my soul. Which is nothing? LOL.
William finally finishes his sentence and asks her to be his partner. She scoffs at him for always needing one. He explains that this one is different. It has to be her. He needs an independent girl outside his social circle (because he already used up his social circle. xD).
Bella is missing. She’s found at the amusement park where she wants to play with Lin Nuo Yan. She knows she only has a month to live and wants to play to her heart's content. Lin Nuo Yan accomplishes Bella’s selfish wish but he also reprimands her for disappearing on her own. At night, Bella is back at the hospital. She asks Mom to hug her to sleep but Mom is busy yelling at the staff for their neglect. Bella passes away hugging her stuff animal. T_T
The 40th wedding anniversary. Not 50th but 40th. Drama is really sticking to 4 and the death theme. William has Cheng Wei Lan as his partner. Qian Cheng has nobody! Oh wait, Qian Cheng isn’t without a partner! Ye Lai, his first love, is back. I thought she was dead... Qian Cheng is actually smiling at a girl. Unbelievable. The one man who isn’t happy is Qian Tu. Lol. It seems Qian Family doesn’t like Ye Lai because she’s the one who endangered Qian Cheng.
William’s dance partner isn’t just one. Xue Wan Wan is here too, but rather than fighting with Cheng Wei Lan, the girls are having quality time (without William).
The next day, Jin Xiao Yu is at work. Her client is Bella. ): It was said that her mother cried so heartbreakingly, it made the news. After examination, Jin Xiao Yu realizes Bella also took the medication. Once again, there’s improvement in the pills. The corpses no longer show discolouration of the finger nails. There’s a similarity between the recent cases: they're VIP clients at the hospital. Lesson: Don’t buy VIPs!
[Ep21] Jin Xiao Yu is in Lin Nuo Yan’s car. He suspects the medication is nearly complete. Grandma Xu Nan and Bella only had a pill or two at random and each had improvements. There has to be someone who completely recovered. Their conversation is interrupted when a car dangerously tailgates them. For her safety, he makes her jump out.
Jin Xiao Yu is at the hospital waiting for Lin Nuo Yan who’s in surgery(?). Jiang Bai Ju runs to hug her but she dodges him to hug Cheng Wei Lang. BFFs first! Lin Nuo Yan is safe. He's rolled out in a wheelchair. And not on a bed...? I think Show is trying to keep its wheelchair joke running. Both Qian Cheng and Xue Wan Wan offered to buy William a wheelchair if Xue Wan Wan’s brother beats him up. It seems everyone is anticipating his disability.
Ye Lai asks Qian Cheng to go to America with her. All these years he kept her secret but in exchange he was never able to recover from his trauma. She recovered and now she wants to recommend her psychologist to him. Please don’t.
Qian Tu asks Qian Cheng about Ye Lai. Qian Cheng scoffs that he’s so different from Dad who’d at least ask about the dog first and then ease into the girlfriend topic. Qian Tu backtracks, asks about raising a cat, and then dives into the Ye Lai topic again, pft. Later at night, Qian Tu wakes up from loud barks. In his backyard, their dog is slaughtered. Qian Cheng is there as well, unfazed at the blood shed. Uh oh. Did Ye Lai give him medication?
The turn of events are a little shocking: Qian Cheng is imprisoned in a psychiatric ward. He assaulted a man who flirted with Ye Lai. The man is hospitalized and is going to sue him. Qian Tu is calm when he visits his brother (for the sake of his brother). William is a bit more agitated and can’t control his anger. Qian Tu, the oldest of the lot, is definitely demonstrating his maturity here.
It just isn’t William’s day today. His best friend is imprisoned. He’s disheartened when he learns Qian Cheng planned to leave for America with Ye Lai. Then he’s beaten up at the hospital by Xue Wan Wan’s brother. I love how Xue Wan Wan eagerly watches them fight for her. Finally, he’s lectured by Grandma Dao for letting Qian Cheng be in danger and rousing up a scandal himself. Grandma Dao sends him to France. On the day William leaves, he only asks Cheng Wei Lan to send him off. He wants a goodbye kiss from her. She smirks, telling him that if he doesn’t want his brain, she could donate it for him. Lol.
[Ep22] William escapes the flight to France with Cheng Wei Lan’s help. He dresses up as a girl and she dresses up as a boy. The bodyguards are blind to have let them escape.
Jiang Bai Ju (I mean, Qian Tu) traced the tailgating car and found a picture of Zhao Shan with the radioactive flowers in the background. Jin Xiao Yu recognizes the flower. The seeds Lin Nuo Yan gave her recently bloomed and it looks the same.
Jin Xiao Yu organizes a meeting with Lin Nuo Yan to look into the flowers. If Jiang Bai Ju can become normal again, Jin Xiao Yu wants him to live life properly. She’s cut off from saying I-love-you because he said it first. Still, she “wins” because she tells him “I do”. She’s accepting his proposal. Jiang Bai Ju feels an odd sense of defeat but it’s not like he can reject her, lol. Our couple kiss and kiss.
The next day, Lin Nuo Yan is shown the picture of Zhao Shan. He doesn’t know who he is, but he recognizes the flowers, which he got from his mentor, Professor Zhang. Lin Nuo Yan is in denial. When he calms down, he has a recollection of seeing Zhao Shan in a picture from Professor Zhang’s office.
Elsewhere, Qian Tu is beaten up by a random guy in a helmet.
Back to Lin Nuo Yan, he takes Jin Xiao Yu and Jiang Bai Ju into Professor Zhang’s office to find the picture. Then they head to Professor Zhang who happens to be attacked by Zhao Shan. Zhao Shan takes his knife, and of all people, he attacks Jiang Bai Ju. As a result, Lin Nuo Yan learns of Jiang Bai Ju’s healing abilities. Next, Lin Nuo Yan leads them to the radioactive meteorite in Professor Zhang’s lab. Ultimately, Lin Nuo Yan learns everything there is about Jiang Bai Ju’s immortality.
Jiang Bai Ju plans to return the powers to the meteorite. In doing so, it may or may not take his life. Our couple bid their tearful farewells in case he dies. Jin Xiao Yu leaves the radioactive room.
Is that the last they see of each other? Nope! Jiang Bai Ju walks out in long strides. He kisses her, deeply and affectionately. She sends him back to the room, but not without a kiss. This time, from her. I like it that they somewhat respected PPE protocol, lol. Kiss outside the radioactive room.
[Ep23] Jiang Bai Ju returns his powers to the meteorite. How, you ask?He touches the rock and it just sucks the energy back. Iunno.
After a blast of light, Jin Xiao Yu runs into the lab. Jiang Bai Ju is alive, seems human, and is still young. Her nose starts bleeding. She says she’s okay, though.
Lin Nuo Yan shows his true colour! Finally. By the time the couple realize he’s missing, Lin Nuo Yan has stolen the meteorite. He’s a descendant from the village that Jiang Bai Ju parachuted into 80 years ago. The radiation from the cracked meteorite gave everyone a terminal disease, Jin Xiao Yu’s Rare Disease. Lin Nuo Yan's father researched the radioactive matter and in the process, he killed a few people but it’s for the greater good! What’s a few deaths? Isn’t it normal? It’s not fair that he’s imprisoned. Lin Nuo Yan will complete his father’s research and find the cure for Jin Xiao Yu.
But how did Lin Nuo Yan know to approach Jiang Bai Ju? Who leaked his immortality? Leather Suit William has answers. Oh, and he also saved Qian Tu. He leads everyone to the culprit, the real lunatic, the society’s trash. The door opens: it’s Cheng Wei Lan. LMAO. Nope, not her, she’s just the doctor. It’s Ye Lai. She’s the “guy in the helmet” who beat up Qian Tu. My bad, I should not have assumed the person under the helmet was a guy.
Ye Lai has antisocial personality disorder. She acts nice and pitiful to hide her manipulative personality. Ten years ago, she wasn’t a kidnap victim. She was the kidnapper and her target was Qian Cheng and William. From that incident she witnessed Jiang Bai Ju’s resurrection. She worked together with Lin Nuo Yan for the past decade because he gave her medication to control her addiction. Qian Cheng’s current imprisonment was also premeditated by her. William threatens her that he has all the proof and he’ll wait until her body suffers from her cravings. A psycho against a psycho. Girl, you cannot mess with our princess’s princess.
Ye Lai shows her true colours too. She shares that Lin Nuo Yan is at Snow Mountain. However, they’re mistaken to think she’s working for him because she loves him. “We are partners. Just because I’m a girl, you all think I’m sinning for a guy. You men are all narcissists,” From the very beginning, she just wanted money. She wanted to help Lin Nuo Yan accomplish his research. If he’s successful and the mediation can control addictions, then she can legalize drugs across the world. Muahahaha! Ah...so get high all the time and it won’t kill your body. Interesting...
[Ep24] Jiang Bai Ju, Jin Xiao Yu and William hike up the Snow Mountain. Overnight, Jin Xiao Yu is kidnapped by Lin Nuo Yan. Jiang Bai Ju and co search for her. William happens to find another skeleton and screams at the top of his lungs. His Prince Charming is here to save him! It’s Qian Tu, pft.
Jin Xiao Yu frees herself from Lin Nuo Yan, but she runs into an invisible forcefield. Omg a forcefield too?! Zhao Shan catches her but then she’s saved by a Prince Charming! Surprise, it’s Qian Cheng. Qian Bros saving the world ~ He blasts the forcefield by detonating a bomb. But why not leave where you came from, boy? They escape, but now there’s a bigger problem. Since the mountain is hollow underneath, it will collapse. So....why not leave where you came from?!?! She yells at him for killing them all. He hollers at her for being kidnapped in the first place.
Qing Cheng: I should have known that with your appearance, it’s impossible for you to have a spare tire. That Lin Nuo Yan is a villainJin Xiao Yu: I should have known that with your personality, it’s impossible for you to have a first love. That Ye Lai is a villain.
Enough with the childish spat, they reunite with the team but the ground caves. Jiang Bai Ju clutches onto a ledge. Hanging onto him are Jin Xiao Yu and Qian Cheng. Both argue on who will let go (but Jin Xiao Yu is tightly hugging onto him...just saying). In the end it’s Qian Cheng who loosens his grip and that’s when William and Qian Tu have a rope to save them all. William is like At the critical time, it’s your bros who can help you.
Lin Nuo Yan climbs his way up to safety as well. He looks at the empty spot where the mountain once was. All his research is gone. The potential cure is gone. It’s Jin Xiao Yu’s loss too. Jiang Bai Ju counters. Jin Xiao Yu lost nothing. She has her family and friends. Happiness is part of life and so is pain. This is living.
Some time later.
Lin Nuo Yan is in jail. Professor Zhang continues Lin Nuo Yan’s research. There’s value in his work.
Jin Xiao Yu is hospitalized. Her condition is stable. (Thanks to Lin Nuo Yan’s research.)
William is a proper writer. He asks his readers for their support because he has to pay his mortgage.
Qian Cheng recovers from his trauma. He can openly talk about Ye Lai.
Jiang Bai Ju can be in public now. He's on stage, winning the best new fashion designer award from Grandma Dao. Oh, winning with connections, eh.
Jiang Bai Ju and Jin Xiao Yu marry ~ They will live a very normal life, suffering all things human. Blissful.
Jin Xiao Yu throws her bouquet. It lands in Grandma Dao’s arms, aw.
Oh, and Cheng Wei Lan and Xue Wan Wan are still best friends.

[First Impression (Ep1-5)] (Okay, truth: I’ve watched all the available ten episodes. I couldn’t stop).
Our ML is an immortal who never ages and mutates every night. Otherwise he’s quite average and well, insanely rich. Typical. Our FL is a mortal who will die in exactly a year. She’s no average girl, though! Her jokes about her own death kill me. I’m laughing way too much at someone dying, but she’s so endearingly optimistic and cheeky, I can’t help it. With no time to waste on trivial things like embarrassment, she’ll flirt, tease, shoulder wiggle, you name it, just to earn that extra petty change for her teacher-like-parent. I love her!
You’ll probably notice how much text I’ve translated. There’s more. I might as well translate the entire show at this rate. Everyone’s lines are sarcastic, snarky and witty, especially our CP's. Loving the punchlines.
The boys! The boys! Other than the romance (which has chemistry – I thought I should squeeze this in somewhere and so here it is in brackets), the camaraderie between the boys and their characterization are another strong highlight.
- William is our ML’s unwilling guardian and a big flirt, plus a novelist who probably writes porn (ha!) and he’s got a major case of narcissism.
- Qian Cheng is the princess of the men. He’s got a tender heart, and a resting grumpy face. He’s probably the gloomiest when his young master (ML) gives him days off. (So cute)
- Qian Tu is Qian Cheng’s brother and dotes on him like he’s a little sister. He unwillingly obeys the ML in order to earn extra days off for his brother (which Qian Cheng hates, pft).
P.S. The ML leaks water when he dies/transforms. This seems to be an interesting clue. (Nvmd!)
