[Ep1] We’re in ancient times. Xuan Wen is a prince (Emperor’s brother). He’s battling on palace grounds; he's all bloody. Lian Yi, his bride, runs in and protect him from an arrow. She dies in his stead. In her last breath, she gives him the cherry blossom hairpin he had given her and uses it as their promise to love again in their next lifetime. Xuan Wen promises that every lifetime, he’ll find her. And then our real heroine, Luo Kai Huai, wakes up from this dream. It’s not the first time she had this dream.
[Ep4] Luo Kai Huai sneaks back into Zhu Xuan Wen’s secret storage to take a look at the hairpin again. Zhu Xuan Wen catches her and is furious. However, since she was able to name the hairpin correctly, he gives the hairpin to her. More memories of the hairpin come back to Luo Kai Huai. This hairpin is meant for the Prince’s wife. Once Lian Yi accepts it, she is his wife. Back to reality, Luo Kai Huai returns the hairpin to Zhu Xuan Wen. She can’t accept it.
[Ep5] Zhu Li suspects Luo Kai Huai of having ulterior motives for gaining Zhu Xuan Wen’s trust. Zhu Li uses her fears of sharp objects to threaten her but he’s stopped by Zhu Xuan Wen. Zhu Xuan Wen apologizes to Luo Kai Huai. It’s not his fault, but to him, she’s his and it’s his fault he couldn’t protect her.
In the past. Lian Yi left Xuan Wen because she has a terminal disease. He searches all over for her but he couldn’t find her.
When Luo Kai Huai recalls the above dream fragment, she questions why Lian Yi would push him away. That’s just torturing herself. Uh, this girl isn’t taking her own advice. Although these two are apart, their minds and hearts are with each other.

[First Impression (Ep1-6)] It's a modern romcom with a ML who believes he's a prince. He's wealthy enough that he can setup a palace in a metropolitan city to continue his delusions. Everyone else plays along. The directors of the company will dress up as ministers to conduct their meetings. Our FL, a psychiatrist, will become a palace maid in order to treat him. Bit by bit, she reintroduces him to reality. Bit by bit, they're falling in love with each other. There's a slight twist when they're actually past lovers. He is a prince and she's his bride. He vowed to recognize her in their afterlife but he doesn't, at least not yet, neither does she; they only recognize the hairpin.

Zhu Xuan Wen is a young and successful CEO. He gets into a car accident and he gets the same dream. However, it’s more than a dream for him. He wakes up and becomes Xuan Wen speaking ancient language. By chance, Luo Kai Huai gets to sit in Zhu Xuan Wen's car to work because his secretary kindly offered. Once she's in the car, Zhu Xuan Wen, who’s in prince clothes, uses ancient-speak to insult her (e.g. commoner, ugly, etc) when she did absolutely nothing. Perhaps her breathing bothered him.
At work, Luo Kai Huai finds outs her patient will be Zhu Xuan Wen who has a delusional disorder. When she shows up at his place for the appointment, it’s a palace set. The setting triggers her own dream fragments. She accidentally falls into the water. Xuan Wen jumps in to save her. She’s unconscious and has a new dream. In there, Lian Yi saved a drowning Xuan Wen. Lian Yi is a doctor. Luo Kai Huai wakes up from the dream to find Zhu Xuan Wen on her bed. She tries to run away but our narcissistic prince is set on believing Luo Kai Huai is seducing him. This man is seducing her until she seduces him back to prove that she is seducing him. Get it? Luo Kai Huai only played along to escape from his overbearing egoism.
After speaking with Dai Fu (Zhu Xuan Wen’s secretary; also a pretend-eunuch, lol), Luo Kai Huai realizes Zhu Xuan Wen’s disorder is pretty severe. As a psychiatrist she continues her job the next day only to have Zhu Xuan Wen speak down to her again (evil shallow seductress type of words).
[Ep2] Luo Kai Huai plays the role of a maid. She continues to entertain Zhu Xuan Wen's delusions; it’s a type of treatment. She even lives in his palace. At night, she’s called over to his manor. She is ordered to clean his feet. It’s actually him torturing her to change the water for nth time to find the exact temperature. It’s his way of kicking her out of his palace.
She tries and tries to kiss and then an accidental kiss happens. That kiss triggers another dream fragment. In the dream, Lian Yi hits Xuan Wen unconscious to prevent him from leaving until his wounds are healed.
Back to reality, after that kiss, Zhu Xuan Wen promotes Luo Kai Huai to his personal maid. However, he has more ways to torture her as his personal maid. If she can’t follow up with his poems, she will have to study up a stack of books. She only has one line for everything. She claims she’s pretty amazing to have her one line match up to two of his. He kicks her out but when she leaves, he actually smiles at her lines.
Second Couple: Linda is avoiding a creepy admirer and uses Dai Fu, who was just passing by, to hide her. She pulls him close to pretend they’re making out. When the creep turns around, she quickly ducks to Dai Fu’s waist level (lol). When the creep turns again, she puts her face in Dai Fu’s chest and accidentally rips his shirt. She offers to pay him back but he demands a large sum. It’s for his psychological damage, lol. By the way, Linda is a fellow psychiatrist who sees Luo Kai Huai as a rival.
[Ep3] Zhu Li and Luo Kai Huai had met abroad three years ago. He remembers her as the girl who had given him the umbrella. He was probably at his lowest point in life when she gave him help. Today, he returns her the umbrella. Their meeting had led him to believe that she would the perfect psychiatrist for Zhu Xuan Wen hence why she's the psychiatrist selected. This also explains why he was so keen on driving Luo Kai Huai to work when they “first” met.
Zhu Li is Zhu Xuan Wen's younger brother. All the directors have been bugging him for Zhu Xuan Wen’s condition and thus he takes them to Zhu Xuan Wen. The condition is for them to dress up as ministers and dukes. They're here to discuss who will temporarily oversee the company. With Luo Kai Huai’s advice, Zhu Xuan Wen makes it a competition between Zhu Li and Director Mei for the spot.
Director Mei demands Luo Kai Huai when Zhu Xuan Wen will be treated. She answers within two months. He takes her seriously and if two months are up and Zhu Xuan Wen still isn’t better, the CEO will be removed.
Luo Kai Huai has a fear of scissors or anything sharp. Zhu Xuan Wen seems to have found out. She runs away and wants to quit. She doesn’t want her patient to find out that she has a disorder too. What would her patients think if they know their psychiatrist is sick. Still, the next day she returns to work. Zhu Xuan Wen has rid everything sharp in his room.
Luo Kai Huai finds the hairpin in Zhu Xuan Wen’s belongings.

News break out that Zhu Xuan Wen has a mental health disorder. Zhu Li asks Luo Kai Huai for help to make Zhu Xuan Wen clarify to everyone he’s normal. After putting on a talent show (singing and dancing) for him, he puts on a suit.
Second Couple: Dai Fu doubts Luo Kai Huai and insists on switching out the psychiatrist. The only candidate is Linda. Dai Fu quickly retracts his compliant and sticks with Luo Kai Huai.
[Ep5] Zhu Li suspects Luo Kai Huai of having ulterior motives for gaining Zhu Xuan Wen’s trust. Zhu Li uses her fears of sharp objects to threaten her but he’s stopped by Zhu Xuan Wen. Zhu Xuan Wen apologizes to Luo Kai Huai. It’s not his fault, but to him, she’s his and it’s his fault he couldn’t protect her.
Luo Kai Huai figures out why Zhu Li is threatening her. He doesn’t want Zhu Xuan Wen to recover. Being his best buddy, Zhu Li knows that Zhu Xuan Wen living as a prince is his temporary bliss. He wants Zhu Xuan Wen to be happy just a bit longer. Luo Kai Huai disagrees. This is fake happiness. Having experienced this herself, fake happiness cannot persist.
Zhu Xuan Wen is jealous when he sees Luo Kai Huai with Zhu Li. That triggers him to take her as his royal consort. Literally. From regular maid, she became his personal maid, and now his consort.
At night, Zhu Xuan Wen waits for his royal consort but she's nowhere to be found. Luo Kai Huai is with Zhu Li. When she returns to the palace, she finds Zhu Xuan Wen using a phone. She's rather impressed he's willing to approach reality all on his own. He learns rather quick and continues to video call her every few minutes.
Luo Kai Huai wins Dai Fu and it's settled that they'll go shopping at a mall today. It's cute when these three are together.
And people, this is how one should shop. I have been doing it wrong all along.
[Ep6] Zhu Xuan Wen sees a naked mannequin and demands Luo Kai Huai to give it clothes otherwise he'll punish it for it's obscenity. Girl, don't make a man punish a mannequin. That's the least of Luo Kai Huai's worry though because an annoying paparazzi is determined to ruin Zhu Xuan Wen's reputation for a few clicks. Luo Kai Huai records evidence of it but the paparazzi breaks her phone because apparently that will destroy the recording inside. Zhu Xuan Wen can't let another man bully his consort so he hits the man in the face. This is recorded and the video goes viral.
Zhu Li temporarily terminates Luo Kai Huai's contract. He doesn't want her affected by the media because they'll target her if she continues to associate with Zhu Xuan Wen. It's evening and Luo Kai Huai doesn't know where to go because she's used to returning to the palace. It's pouring rain so she waits inside a bus stop. Zhu Xuan Wen shows up with an umbrella to pick up his consort.
More of Zhu Li's past: He has a passion for music but his father ordered him to come back home to help his brother with the company.
Luo Kai Huai develops a fever. In her slumber she refuses to drink medication. Zhu Xuan Wen mouth feeds her. She's still in dreamland. In there, Xuan Wen is taken away by the soldiers.
[Ep7] Luo Kai Huai has been keeping notes of all her interactions with Zhu Xuan Wen. Her analysis is this: she has fallen in love with Zhu Xuan Wen. She plans to quit. A doctor cannot fall in love with her patient. Dai Fu hears about her quitting and confronts her. Now that she's really leaving, he's not happy. He asks her if she ever considered Zhu Xuan Wen's feelings.
Luo Kai Huai gives Zhu Xuan Wen a kiss on the cheek. She doesn't tell him it's a farewell kiss. Next day she introduces a new psychiatrist, Linda, to Zhu Xuan Wen. Immediately, Linda and Dai Fu are arguing over random stuff. Zhu Xuan Wen has a feeling she's leaving for good.
[Ep8] Luo Kai Huai and Dai Fu find the mall's CCTV to prove that it was the paparazzi who instigated the fight.
Luo Kai Huai has left the palace. Zhu Xuan Wen is super jealous when he’s with Zhu Li. He misinterprets that she quit because of Zhu Li. He’s angry and tells her he needs her. She musters up a cold front against him.
In the past. Lian Yi left Xuan Wen because she has a terminal disease. He searches all over for her but he couldn’t find her.

It's a very, very interesting synopsis. Unfortunately, it's not told in a very, very interesting way. Perhaps I had too much expectation going in. I was all prepared to laugh at the delusional ML but his lines are delivered flatly. I find the supporting ML (Dai Fu) much more charismatic. As a result, the chemistry is also faltering for me. I don't feel anything for this couple. I'm waiting to see if my feelings will change once the ML is back to normal.
[Actors/Actresses] Perhaps I'm biased against Wan Yan Luo Rong (Julio Wan Yan). His previous projects haven't impressed me. He overdoes his roles. Here, I don't know what's wrong exactly, I just don't feel his presence. Meanwhile, Zhuang Da Fei (Sabrina Zhuang) is an actress I like but she needs that extra "oomph" to her acting to make me truly love her. Don't ask me what that "oomph" is, I don't know either. The end of the year is nearing and I find my brain is dimming, waiting for a new year.
