[Ep1] Guan Yu Qing loves China and is taking her pilot expertise back to her home country. As she's on her plane ride back, one of its engines is on fire. Although she's just a passenger, she takes matters in her own hands. She takes over the first officer position and saves the plane from crashing. I don't know how plane accidents look like, don't intend to, but this looked pretty fake. I get the point though, we need to see her saving the world to show how amazing she is.

Guan Zhen Lei (Guan Yu Qing's younger brother) announces to his family he wants to marry Li Bei. He asks his parents to borrow this hefty sum (ten thousand RMB) to buy a diamond ring. The parents want to see this Li Bei first. Guan Zhen Lei is like he hasn't even proposed yet, it's weird to bring her home. Guan Yu Qing rolls her eyes. She's not lending money to this brother who's reckless with money. Dad is upset at Guan Yu Qing (despite brother losing their family home).
Xu Qing Feng is on a blind date online as per his mother's request. Suddenly, after hearing the girl speak just one sentence, he wants to see her in person immediately. The condition is to bring her mother and to meet at the nearest hospital. Through the video conference, Xu Qing Feng was able to see signs of a heart attack for the mother (because of her left jaw/neck pain). The "date" was for the mother to be hospitalized. Xu Qing Feng is a doctor (cardiologist) by the way.
Upon first meeting Xu Qing Feng, Guan Yu Qing thought he was a cheater. She ends up in his office and he asks her if she's alright. She says her heart is uncomfortable. Professionally, Xu Qing Feng tells her to come closer so he can take a listen to her heart with his stethoscope. Guan Yu Qing glares at him. She takes his stethoscope and puts the diaphragm to his chest and asks him what he hears. Although surprised at her brashness, he answers it's his heart rate he's hearing. She questions him whether he actually hears a human heartbeat. She diagnoses herself for him: her heart is uncomfortable because of a cheater like him. Sassy.
[Ep2] Li Bei's parents look down on Guan Zhen Lei for having no house, no car, and no money. They're like How dare he even think of going out with their daughter?
Xu Qing Feng goes out of his way to explain to Guan Yu Qing that it was his mother who caused that girl to misunderstood he was dating her. Guan Yu Qing is like oh so it was your mom who was dating for you. The misunderstanding is cleared but I don't think it improves her thought of him. He just sounds like a mama's boy now.
Xu Qing Feng and Guan Yu Qing work together to save a patient. He's the doctor notifying her the urgent situation on the plane and she's the pilot who brings him to the right place within the limited time.
Guan Zhen Lei really wants to marry Li Bei. He promotes himself to her parents by first showing off his sisters. Haha. Li Bei’s parents concede on one condition: Guan Zhen Lei becomes their son. Therefore, their children will have the surname Li instead of Guan. Guan Zhen Lei accepts immediately and invites his parents to meet Li Parents. The meeting is hilarious when Guan Zhen Lei only cares about Li Parents, making his own father super jealous. When his father learns he plans to enter the female’s family, dad won’t have it.
[Ep3] Dad demands Guan Yu Qing to “lend” money to her brother for his marriage. Guan Zhen Lei has the audacity to complain that he already gave in when she wouldn’t lend her money to buy his wedding ring. I cannot compute. The father is completely on brother’s side. Mom stays silent.
Xu Qing Feng’s mother is a psychologist who shows up at the door. The brother complains to her about his sister. At first Xu Mom was very understanding: of course she should give you money. She continues “she should also help you start your family, get a baby, get you your work” etc. Hahaha. Go mom. Xu Mom goes on to compliment her own son and how she raised him by controlling every aspect of his life. Then Xu Mom lectures Guan Mom for failing to raise her son. Now, Guan Yu Qing isn’t smiling anymore. She won’t allow a stranger to insult her mother. She fires back and wonders if her son is suffocating in her grasp. Xu Qing Feng is outside the door fetching his mother. He overhears Guan Yu Qing’s words (not knowing who she is yet) and smiles at her owning his mother. Guan Dad shoos out Xu Mom. And that’s how Guan Yu Qing learns this royal highness is Xu Qing Feng’s mother, a royal pain in the butt. But I sort of like how she’s straight to the point. I can’t wait until these future-in-law destruct lol.
Right after I said I sorta liked her, Xu Mom continues her manipulative and invasive ways. She secretly takes her son’s phone and texts a fellow doctor (who likes him but he doesn’t like her). Omg this guy is a huge turnoff not because of who he is but who his mother is.

[Ep4] Guan Yu Qing doesn’t go home for dinner even though she’s right in front of her home. She overheard Dad saying his daughter is okay eating out but his precious baby boy (Guan Zhen Lei) can’t. Guan Yu Qing tears up hearing this. Dad, she’s your child too!
Xu Qing Feng and Guan Yu Qing are awkwardly set up on a blind date. He promised the director to sit for an hour so he’s like let’s not waste time, “I’ll give you a physical examination.” He examines her back and her arm movement (it’s all related to her profession that requires her to be seated for long periods of time). It’s pouring rain when they leave. He gives her the umbrella while he runs in the rain. Guan Yu Qing might just be falling in love with him but he’s not interested in marrying or dating at all. They do continue a second date for the director’s sake but that’s also their last date. He was studying up surgery the entire time by watching videos. Seeing the insides of organs makes Guan Yu Qing puke. Poor girl, what an awful date, lol.

[Ep5] Xu Qing Feng has also moved out of his home too. Thus, Xu Qing Feng and Guan Yu Qing find peace in their new independence. Guan Yu Qing should have moved out of her "home" a long time ago. They randomly bunch into each other in a nearby restaurant and order the exact same dishes. As they walk home, she's awkwardly trailing him. That's when they learn they live right across from each other in the same condominium. When they're home, Guan Yu Qing asks Xu Qing Feng to borrow a thread and needle. She wants to sew her jacket back up. He insists she enter his condo. Turns out Xu Qing Feng is an expert sewer (it's all from his experience in surgery). Guan Yu Qing is impressed. She's falling a little bit more in love with him.
Future in-laws of Guan Zhen Lei are persuading him to kick his own parents out of the home too...
Guan Family has an eldest daughter, Guan Yu Yun. She's making dinner for Guan Yu Qing while her husband, Chen Zhi Jun is having dinner with Guan parents. Guan Dad is giving him attitude because apparently their daughter married "down" (i.e. his social status is lower than hers). Apparently, it's Guan Dad's way of grasping onto his son-in-law... It's actually pretty funny between these two men. Meanwhile eldest daughter, Guan Yu Yun is helping her little sister grasp onto Xu Qing Feng by inviting him over for dinner.
[Ep6] Xu Qing Feng rejects the doctor who Xu Mom is so eager to have as her daughter-in-law. However, the female doctor doesn't give up and will continue her pursuit of him. After the female doctor leaves Xu Qing Feng's home, he goes over to Guan Yu Qing's and apologizes to her because his mother stayed over at her when he wasn't home earlier. He adds her on WeChat in case his mother bothers her again. When he's back in his condo, he laughs at her handle. It's Guan Er Ye. Go search up the picture and you'll know why it's funny. Guan Yu Qing's misunderstanding of the girl being is girlfriend is also cleared.
There's a retreat for the doctors. The director invites Guan Yu Qing. When Xu Qing Feng cares for her, the female doctor senses a rival. She updates Xu Mom all about it. Hearing this, Xu Mom visits the director of the hospital. Turns out, the director is Xu Qing Feng's biological father! The director assures her that he hasn't told Xu Qing Feng he's his father. The parents divorced because Xu Mom is certain he cheated on her but he insists she misunderstood. She's so angry seeing him, she suffers a heart attack.
[Ep7] Xu Mom faints. Xu Qing Feng learns his long lost father is Director Gao. Xu Mom wakes up and the first thing she does is make her son quit but Xu Qing Feng doesn't want to. He wants to establish a heart transplant centre that only this hospital has the resources to. He can't leave. Mom thinks this is betrayal.
Guan Yu Qing forgets her keys to her home. She’s drenched in rain. Xu Qing Feng adopts her for the night. She tells him about her family. Her older sister isn’t her mother’s daughter. Her brother is the only son of the family. Thus being the daughter of both parents, she feels the most responsible for her family. Xu Qing Feng tends to her wounds and even dries her hair. He puts an extra cute bandaid on her forehead. But she’s not injured there. He’s mending her pain inside (to make her stop thinking of the pains her family brings).
Xu Mom pops in the condo in the morning. She’s shocked to see Guan Yu Qing there in her son’s clothes. Xu Mom is in tears. Haha. She claims that Guan Yu Qing is a spy sent by Director Gao. Xu Qing Feng assures mom there’s nothing between them.
Just when I thought anything romantic between them was ruined by Xu Mom’s hysteria, Xu Qing Feng gracefully takes off her bandaid and gently taps her forehead a few times (right in front of Xu Mom). Xu Mom clears her throat and so Guan Yu Qing leaves.
[Ep15] Xu Qing Feng escapes from mom quickly enough to drive Guan Yu Qing to the hospital to visit her father. He also gives her his breakfast that Guan Mom made. When there’s a red light, she quickly stuffs bread in his mouth. Aw.
Guan Yu Qing calls up a family meeting in the hospital room. Members are only allowed to talk if they raise their hands. Thus, begins this hilarious meeting where Zhao Mei can finally shut up. Guan Yu Qing will allow Guan Zhen Lei use of her car and her home if Guan Zhen Lei makes monthly payments (as allowance to his parents). Guan Zhen Lei and Li Parents are totally against it. There’s no logical flaw behind it. There is. It’s HER car and HER house. Guan Dad can’t back up his son. Guan Yu Yun has both her hands out to approve of it. Guan Zhen Lei has both his hands up against it. Guan Yu Qing tells him those are her terms. Take it or leave it.
Guan Dad is being discharged soon. Xu Qing Feng examines dad one more time but Sun Xiao Bei is in the room making his move on Guan Yu Qing right in front of her parents (and Xu Qing Feng). He’s furious and calls her out to his office. He hollers at her for distracting the patient. Guan Dad needs calm and her flirting around with Sun Xiao Bai is making it worse for Guan Dad’s heart. I think Xu Qing Feng meant for his own heart. Guan Yu Qing pleads him to sit down. Him hovering over her in his white coat pressures her. She laughs at him and tells him he needs to ventilate his room, “It’s a little sour in here.” Xu Qing Feng smells himself. He laughs too.
Guan Yu Qing stays overnight in the hospital to watch over Guan Dad. While she’s sleeping, Xu Qing Feng pulls a blanket over her. Guan Dad sees it all. He turns to the other side and smiles a happy dad smile.
[Ep17] Guan Dad loves Xu Qing Feng even more when he practically lets Guan Dad win and regain pride over Zhao Mei. Guan Dad is currently living with Guan Yu Qing; he sends her over to Xu Qing Feng's place with excuses left and right. Xu Qing Feng also asks her to stay and help him build a lego house (for his patient, the little girl). He keeps staring at her. Guan Yu Qing smiles and shyly asks him if he could stop staring. It makes her nervous.
At home Xu Mom stays up all night. Her plan is to enter the hospital herself. She's the hospital's new janitor. She won't let her son be with Director Gao alone. While cleaning, she faints again. She does wake up soon after though. With this, Xu Qing Feng decides to transfer hospitals but he's depressed about giving up his life's aspirations and forever being tied by his mother.

Guan Dad realizes he's been scammed by his precious son. It's his birthday and Guan Zhen Lei forgot so Guan Mom brings dad back home and discovers that Guan Zhen Lei lied about renovating their home. It was a scheme to get them out of their home so that he can get Li Bei's parents in their home. This shameless son has the nerve to sing Happy Birthday to dad when he realizes he forgot. It was awful of him but I laughed when he started smiling and singing. That is how he got his dad in the palm of his hand. Guan Dad was confronting Li Bei's parents but then his daughters show up to celebrate Dad's birthday. Guan Yu Qing accidentally drops her chopsticks. When she peers under the table, she notices her parents are wearing outdoor shoes but Li Bei's parents are wearing home slippers. With that, Guan Yu Qing has figured out everything. She confronts Li Bei's parents and exposes everything. However angry Guan Dad is he doesn't like it when Guan Yu Tong exposes his son betraying him. Guan Dad takes his son's side. !!!!!!!!!!!! He's like he moved out on his own, no one forced him out, he was never lied to. Guan Mom pinches his thigh hard but Dad continues to lie through his teeth to protect his son. No matter what Guan Yu Qing says Dad will not admit the truth. Li Mom (Zhao Mei) is looking super smug at winning the house. How can they all be so shameless???????? She suggests Guan Dad to live in Guan Yu Qing's place. She's willing to but Dad doesn't want to (plus that's not the issue here). Li Mom then suggests Guan Dad to live in Guan Yu Yun's place. The sister doesn't have an opinion but it seems like her husband does. The only one who's okay with living with Dad is the daughter he mistreats.
New character: Lan Qiao Qiao. Is our teddybear dad in Go Ahead going to be a cheater?
[Ep8] Xu Qing Feng drinks with his buddy and is too drunk to open his door back to his home. Guan Yu Qing adopts him in her place tonight. Xu Mom is looking for her son. Lin Jie (the female doctor) calls the security guard for Xu Qing Feng's whereabouts. The guards tell them he's in 701 (Guan Yu Qing's place). Where is privacy. Xu Mom barges in and is surprised to see her son naked in Guan Yu Qing's bed.
Xu Mom: Why is my son in your bed in the middle of the night?!Guan Yu Qing: He's drun –Xu Mom: Don't talk! You just asked a question lady!
Xu Mom pulls her back but she hesitates on going to the hospital. Xu Mom doesn't trust Guan Yu Qing home alone with her son. Thus Guan Yu Qing offers to take her to the hospital too. Xu Mom seriously believes Guan Yu Qing harassed her son. LOL. Guan Yu Qing throws in some food in Xu Mom's mouth to get her to stop talking.
Guan Yu Qing is calm: Take a rest, auntie. LOL. I can't wait for more of these two's scenes.
Guan Yu Qing returns home in the morning. Xu Qing Feng left her home but to show his gratitude, he cleaned her entire house (not that it was messy to being with).
Xu Qing Feng gives in to Lin Jie and dates her. This makes his doctor friend angry because he knows Xu Qing Feng doesn't like her. He warns Xu Qing Feng he better not hurt her.
Once Lin Jie got her hands on Xu Qing Feng, she shows her true colours to Xu Mom. Mom invited her over for dumplings. Lin Jie has no intentions of eating her dumplings, she wants to make dumplings for Xu Qing Feng. Once Lin Jie tries to step foot into Xu Mom's kitchen, Mom feels a sense of invasion. Muahaha. These two women fight underhandedly with angelic smiles. Lin Jie is no weakling. She actually wins mom and successfully makes her version of dumpling for Xu Qing Feng. To Xu Mom's dismay, her son likes Lin Jie's dumplings. Xu Qing Feng doesn't even need to dump her. Xu Mom will do it for him. However, I kind of like Lin Jie owning Xu Mom.
[Ep9] Guan Zhen Lei hobbles home claiming Guan Yu Qing hit him (he hit his own thigh at the bar). His in-laws feel bad for him and Li Dad wants to reclaim justice for him but Zhao Mei tells him to calm down. She reminds him they can't offend Guan Yu Qing because the house they want to rob is still under her name. Guan Zhen Lei assures he's okay as long as Li Bei talks to him alone in his room. The parents look at each other and hurriedly separates these two, lol. The separation was way too dramatic. Li Parents won't let them sleep together until the house is under their name?
Guan Yu Qing finds out from her coworker that Director Gao didn't cheat and that he still loves Xu Mom. WHY? Guan Yu Qing also believes Xu Mom loves Director Gao otherwise they wouldn't both be single until this age. I sincerely believe Xu Mom is single for another reason. Guan Yu Qing tells Xu Qing Feng this to make him stay (under Director Gao’s request). Xu Qing Feng decides to stay.
Guan Yu Qing learns Xu Qing Feng is dating Lin Jie. Lin Jie rubs it in to Guan Yu Qing that if the next time Xu Qing Feng is drunk she can just contact her but she won't let him be drunk in the first place anyways.
Lin Jie and Xu Mom's fight is still ever so entertaining. Lin Jie bought Xu Qing a robot vacuum. It was a present to Xu Qing Feng but Xu Mom opens it. Lin Jie remarks that her parents would never open her packages. Xu Mom doesn't think there's anything wrong with that when Xu Qing Feng and her are family. Xu Mom doesn't think Xu Qing Feng needs the vacuum. Lin Jis is like whenever Mom isn't there, the vacuum will help him out. Xu Mom does a double take. Xu Mom has no intention of not being there in his son's life. Smiling, she tells Lin Jie to return the vacuum as she gets up to make tea. Smiling, Lin Jie thanks mom for the tea. Tea time ~.
[Ep10] Xu Mom, Lin Jie and Xu Qing Feng are out for lunch. Xu Mom is sad his son poured water for Lin Jie first. Upset, Xu Mom wants to go home. Xu Qing Feng gives her the keys. Xu Mom expects her son to leave with him but Xu Qing Feng has no such intentions. LOL. Xu Qing Feng is doing this on purpose. He’s giving both women a dose of reality of what it’s like to live with him, well, not necessarily him per se. Why does Xu Mom even bother getting his son married if she’s going to act like this?
The entire Xu Qing Feng family thinks Guan Yu Qing’s boyfriend is Sun Xiao Bai (her coworker). Sun Xiao Bai does like her but Guan Yu Qing is clueless.
Despite how Guan Dad treats Xu Qing Feng, she’s constantly thinking of him. She asks Director Gao for a home visit to examine her dad. Director Gao accepts it since she helped him with his son. Director Gao is still a huge supporter of Xu Qing Feng and Guan Yu Qing, thus for the home visit, he brings Xu Qing Feng along. Heh. However, Guan Dad doesn’t want Xu Qing Feng to examine him. He’s that annoying royal highness’s son (Xu Mom). Guan Yu Qing drags his father to the couch and is able to blurt out all of Xu Qing Feng’s accomplishments. Hahahaha. Even Xu Qing Feng is astonished. Guan Dad complies with the checkup. Afterwards, there’s a bit of small talk and Xu Qing Feng learns from Guan Dad there’s a marriage in his family. Xu Qing Feng is so surprised he blurted, “You and that young guy progressed so fast??” Hehe. Guan Yu Qing denies that it’s her. It’s the spoiled boy of the family.
Guan family offers Director Gao and Xu Qing Feng to stay for lunch. Director Gao doesn’t hesitate to take the offer. Xu Qing Feng, being ever so polite, helps Guan Yu Qing with the cooking. She seems to like her man being accustomed with housework.
Guan Zhen Lei is home with his in-laws playing the good boy. he won’t let his parent-in-laws in the kitchen and he absolutely won’t let Li Bei touch water. He glares at her and shoos her out of the kitchen. Then he tells her he has to punish her. When she puts her hand out, he’s putting cream on her hand. I can’t deny, he’s really good to her.
[Ep11] Xu Mom is officially telling Lin Jie to break up with her son. The way Xu Mom treats Lin Jie makes me feel bad for her. Xu Mom has taken the lead as the character I hate most. Lin Jie directly tells Xu Mom she’s ill. Ironic how Xu Mom is a psychologist. Xu Mom’s words turn harsher. Lin Jie leaves home and bumps into Xu Qing Feng. Her eyes are red. They have a talk outside and he tells her it’s because of his mother that he refused to date her in the first place. Lin Jie is speechless. The man she loves refused her not because he liked her her not but because of his mother.
At home, Xu Mom begs his son to breakup with Lin Jie, placing all the fault on Lin Jie being a witch and crying to Xu Qing Feng about it. Xu Qing Feng has had enough. This man starts crying. He breaks down in front of mom and tells her be broke up with Lin Jie as she wanted. That’s okay; he's used to it. He’s already decided he won’t date. This isn’t the first time his mother has done this to him: introducing him to girls because she thinks that’s being a good mother but then after a few days he starts dating she goes crazy and breaks them apart. Xu Qing Feng tearfully yells at his mother he’ll always be his good son. Oh my poor boy. Xu Qing Feng doesn’t return to sleep at home. Xu Mom cries too. She only wanted to be a good mother... Oh my...as much as I hate this Xu Mom, this actress was splendid here. I felt bad for her for a split second.
Guan Yu Qing runs in the morning. Sun Xiao Bai joins her for breakfast. On their way home they bump into Xu Qing Feng who slept on the bench the whole night. Guan Yu Qing insists he join for breakfast too. Both men sit at her place waiting for breakfast only to be brought two slices of bread and a glass of milk. Guan Yu Qing thinks this is perfectly normal. Sun Xiao Bai gets up to make breakfast for them. Xu Qing Feng prefers to eat breakfast he makes. Lol. This is the only fun part of this episode.
Zhao Mei wants Guan Zhen Lei to sell his father’s home. OMG. But the home belongs to Guan Dad and Guan Yu Qing. Still, Guan Zhen Lei is talked into putting up the house for sale...
Meanwhile Guan Yu Qing was thinking of bringing her parents to live with her. The only daughter who's thinking of her parents. The filial one never gets the love. Hearing this, Guan Yu Yun takes initiative instead. She’s more capable of taking care of her parents (Guan Yu Qing is only renting her friend’s place). However, that’s an ominous sign for Guan Yu Yun and Chen Zhi Jun’s marriage. It is honestly so hard to live with in-laws especially with someone like Guan Dad....
How is it that ALL these parents are horrible???? Drama, I applaud you.
[Ep12] Chen Zhi Jun has a counter plan. He brings his employees to his home before his in-laws move in claiming they have an important project coming up. Chen Zhi Jun wins. Duan Parents are out. Duan Dad is like a son-in-law cannot compare to his son. Well... Our smart Guan Yu Qing had asked her broker friend to keep an eye on her house if it ever goes on sale. She makes her broker friend tell Guan Dad and he catches Zhao Mei and co selling his home. That’s your precious son, Guan Dad. Zhao Mei is angry at Guan family for not selling their home. HUH. She threatens Guan Zhen Lei that he can’t have their daughter if they don’t sell this home. Zhao Mei leaves. Guan Zhen Lei drops to his knees and holds them back. Guan Zhen Lei, “I can’t be without Li Bei.” This breaks Guan Dad’s heart. Guan Dad leaves his own home. He's giving it to Guan Zhen Lei.
Without any place to go, Guan Dad moves in with Guan Yu Qing. However, before he arrives at her place, he collapses from a heart attack. His heart has stopped beating. Panicking, Guan Yu Qing gives her father CPR. Xu Qing Feng was just driving into the paring lot. He gets out and helps perform CPR for Guan Dad. His heart rate is back but he’ll need surgery. Xu Qing Feng had just previously performed a surgery, fainted, and now he intends on being the surgeon for Guan Dad too. All for Guan Yu Qing.
Guan Yu Yun is unable to contact Chen Zhi Jun at all. That’s because Lan Qiao Qiao turned off his phone. This woman has every intention to seduce Chen Zhi Jun. Letting her in his home is the beginning of chaos for his family.
[Ep13] Lan Qiao Qiao is very dangerous. She feeds Chen Zhi Jun the porridge she made. Chen Zhi Jun doesn't have the audacity to let her feed yet. Guan Yu Yun finally reaches him through his employee's phone and tells him to come to the hospital. Once he arrives he asks whether they must pay for the fees. Guan Mom hears this. He's also constantly on his phone. Guan Mom tells him he should just take care of work. When Guan Zhen Lei arrives, Guan Yu Qing is furious at him for making dad almost die. However, Guan Zhen Lei blames Guan Yu Qing that it's her fault; dad was supposed to be at her home. Omg...

Guan Yu Qing calls up a family meeting in the hospital room. Members are only allowed to talk if they raise their hands. Thus, begins this hilarious meeting where Zhao Mei can finally shut up. Guan Yu Qing will allow Guan Zhen Lei use of her car and her home if Guan Zhen Lei makes monthly payments (as allowance to his parents). Guan Zhen Lei and Li Parents are totally against it. There’s no logical flaw behind it. There is. It’s HER car and HER house. Guan Dad can’t back up his son. Guan Yu Yun has both her hands out to approve of it. Xu Qing Feng takes Guan Yu Qing out on a date (after thoroughly researching where to go). He awkwardly touches her hand wanting to hold it. She laughs and slips her hand in his. They arrive home but they don't know Guan Dad and Xu Mom are behind the couch. It's a long story why they're there but they're there. They fight for the gap between the couch to peek at them. Xu Mom silently screams at her son cooking for his daughter. Guan Dad is cheerful and laughing in her face. When they're about to kiss, Xu Mom cannot stay hidden anymore. And that's how Xu Qing Feng and Guan Yu Qing's hidden relationship is exposed.
Guan Yu Qing convinces her father to help her out and go easy on Xu Mom because that would help Xu Qing Feng too. Thus Guan parents are caring for Xu Mom who broken/twisted her leg.
Guan Zhen Lei gets into trouble. He (illegally) sold Yu Qing's car to his friend and that friend injured a pedestrian with it. All the compensation should be paid by the car owner, aka, Guan Yu Qing. Restrain myself.
[Ep20] Guan Zhen Lei isn't the least bit apologetic. He shows off that Li Bei is willing to buy him a car (well a part of it). Guan Yu Qing and Guan Dad disapprove of him using his girlfriend's money. When Li Bei's parents learn of it, they're furious. However, when mom realizes Guan Zhen Lei bought her daughter a huge rock, I mean a diamond ring, her anger dissipates.
Xu Qing Feng is serious about Guan Yu Qing. When Xu Mom sits out in the lobby in her wheelchair right in front of elevator, Xu Qing Feng tightly grasps onto Guan Yu Qing's hand. Xu Qing Feng even organizes a formal dinner with Guan Yu Qing's family to declare they're dating with the intention of marriage. Xu Mom approves. On one condition. [Ep22] Chen Zhi Jun buys Lan Qiao Qiao a necklace. She makes him put it on for her and shows as much skin as possible. When she receives a random phishing call, she pretends it's the hospital calling her about her dad. I'm in awe. There's a lot people can learn here. I swear I won't use it. I swear, lol. Chen Zhi Jun also has the audacity to give Guan Yu Yun a necklace that's not even one-seventh of the cost he bought for Qiao Qiao. And then brings home leftover food that Qiao Qiao couldn't eat. Breathe in. Breathe out.
Xu Mom thinks she can dig up dirt on Guan Yu Qing's ex-boyfriends through Sun Xiao Bai. This mom is ill. She needs a psychologist. ASAP. Sun Xiao Bai was polite at first but then completely gave up on humouring this weirdo.

The person who stays to look over Chen Zhi Jun is Lan Qiao Qiao. But this girl is super calm when the man she supposedly loves is hospitalized. Instead, she seems to be quite curious about Xu Qing Feng. HMMMMMM. Xu Mom happens to see Lan Qiao Qiao and lectures her for her immorality. I realize I like Xu Mom as long as she’s not crazy about her son.
Chen Zhi Jun wants a divorce. His pent-up feelings about Guan Dad explodes. When Guan Yu Qing and Guan Zhen Lei were still young it was him who provided and helped whenever Guan family needed it. He did everything he could and more but none of what he did earned him the tiniest bit of respect from Guan Dad. Guan Yu Qing and Guan Yu Yun overhear. Guan Yu Qing is furious. The excuses he’s giving isn’t a reason for him to cheat. I sort of understand Chen Zhi Jun... sometimes in-laws can really ruin a family unit and Guan Dad is no simple man. The way he treated Chen Zhi Jun is a form of abuse. Guan Dad realizes he ruined his daughter’s marriage. He begs and cries for Chen Zhi Jun to revoke his divorce but Chen Zhi Jun says he no longer loves Guan Yu Yun.
Un/fortunately for Chen Zhi Jun, Lan Qiao Qiao has moved on. Her next target is Xu Qing Feng after setting her eyes on him at the hospital. First though, she's working on Xu Mom (who hates home-wreckers with a passion).

She doesn't accept him. YES. Serves him right. Guan Yu Yun is determined to be independent from now on. Lan Qiao Qiao cries to Xu Mom that it was all Chen Zhi Jun's fault she's misunderstood as a homewrecker. Me: Smirks. I love it when two women I dislike are pit against each other.

She doesn't want to bother him so she prepares for surgery all by herself. At least she has her bestie. Sun Xiao Bai also knows, but unlike the bestie, he tells her entire family. Her family yells at her for not telling them something this important. Sun Xiao Bai also leaves a message for Xu Qing Feng. However, he's alerted of an emergency. He can't leave the hospital. I like Xiao Bai.
[Ep26] Xu Qing Feng unravels Guan Yu Qing's eye bandage. She cries. Xu Qing Feng thinks her eyes haven't recovered. She's crying because Xu Qing Feng lost weight. She's also crying because she's happy she got to see him first.
Xu Mom is ready to introduce Lan Qiao Qiao to Xu Qing Feng. He's late home so he doesn't get to meet her. This mom....he has a girlfriend! Xu Qing Feng reminds his mother he has girlfriend. He also has plans to marry Guan Yu Qing (and only Guan Yu Qing). Mom can't accept that. She asks him if Guan Yu Qing is more important to him now. Xu Qing Feng doesn't understand why his mother has to compare with his girlfriend. This is a family not a competition.

It's all happy but Xu Qing Feng is unreachable. He's lost in the desert in Africa. I'm reminded of how Xu Qing Feng is directionless. How does he even have the courage to drive there? Guan Yu Qing immediately flies there. She searches for him on her own.
Xu Qing Feng remembers the last time he was lost with Guan Yu Qing, she had told him to find a shiny object that can reflect the light so rescuers can spot them from miles away. He does exactly that. Guan Yu Qing has friends in Africa who can lend her a helicopter and off she goes to the skies to find her man. Wow. Xu Qing Feng runs to his rescuer thinking it was a random person but it's the love of his life. Imagine how happy he is. By the way, the CG was so fake here. I don't understand why drama spent an extra few ten seconds to show us such a fake dessert.
[Ep32] Xu Qing Feng is buying the love of his life a ring. He's going to propose. However, he's called for another emergency operation. It's a ten hour operation. When he wakes up, Guan Yu Qing is there in the locker room. She says his friends let her in. She wants to hear what he wanted to say to her earlier. He reminds her this is a locker room. She doesn't care. She wants to hear it now. He happily proposes to her and she accepts. Is this a dream? No. They're engaged.
Meanwhile there’s a divorce in the works. Li Bei is planning to divorce Guan Zhen Lei. It wasn't an easy decision but her father's life is her last straw. She doesn't see hope in Guan Zhen Lei. Guan Zhen Lei lost the only person who ever believed in him. Pity him? Don't.
Guan Zhen Lei demands Guan Yu Qing to give him the house. If she hadn't withheld the house, then he wouldn't have invested in that company with his father-in-law. He threatens Guan Dad that if Guan Yu Qing doesn't give him her home then Guan Dad will lose his son. WTF. Guan Dad begs Guan Yu Qing to give in. Guan Dad assures her this is the last time. Yeah, unless they want to lose a THIRD home.
Guan Zhen Lei has the house in hand but Li Bei is still divorcing him. She can't accept him anymore. He only knows how to take advantage of his parents and sister. He's done nothing worthy on his own. Guan Zhen Lei hugs Li Bei hoping she'll forgive him but Li Dad whacks him with a pot. Guan Zhen Lei walks himself to the hospital with his forehead bleeding. Xu Qing Feng stitches him up. When he's back home, Li Bei has moved out.
Zhao Mei comforts her daughter that whatever decision she'll make, mom will support her.
Chen Zhi Jun is asking Guan Yu Yun for a second chance. NOPE. Not happening.
A drunk Guan Zhen Lei attacks Guan Yu Qing and pours beer all over her. Guan Dad immediately yells at Guan Yu Qing for pushing off Guan Zhen Lei. HUH. Guan Dad is hopeless.
[Ep33] Guan Zhen Lei waits all night in the cold for Li Bei. Zhao Mei pities him but Dad is still mad and Li Bei is still disappointed in him. Zhao Mei does her part by showing her daughter that Guan Zhen Lei is waiting outside for her. However, when Li Bei comes down, Guan Zhen Lei is gone. He was called by the police that the fraudster is caught.
Li Bei is hospitalized from heartbreak. Guan Zhen Lei rushes to the hospital but he sees her with the client (Sun). Li Bei and Guan Zhen Lei make eye contact but with Sun there, he can't take a step forward. He leaves the hospital and reminisces all his time with Li Bei. He then sends her a message. It's the time and date for their divorce.
Guan Zhen Lei is a mess after his divorce. He knocks on Xu Qing Feng's doors and sticks his divorce ID (book) on his door. He's angry that Guan Yu Qing gets to happily marry while he's divorced.
[Ep34] This episode focuses on two men that we all hate. It's Guan Zhen Lei's heartbreak episode and Chen Zhi Jun's downfall from his career.
Guan Zhen Lei fights a random restaurant owner, getting himself in the police station and injured in the hospital. When he wakes up he threatens to commit suicide. Guan Dad cares for his son and asks Guan Yu Qing to not visit to not upset his ("Bao") baby, Guan Zhen Lei. When Guan Zhen Lei wakes up and finds his dad cramped up to sleep in the sofa beside his hospital bed, he starts crying and realizes the only person who loves him is Guan Dad. He hugs his dad and cries like a three year old toddler that his dad must love only him. Rolls eyes.

Chen Zhi Jun hits Sun Xiao Bai when he thinks there's something going on between him and Guan Yu Yun. So random. Our angel Sun Xiao Bai doesn't press charges against him.
Guan Zhen Lei is playing victim and stops Guan Dad from not only moving in with Xu Qing Feng (Guan Yu Qing’s new home) but also stopping his sister's wedding. Guan Zhen Lei holds a knife to his neck and forces his dad to choose him or Xu Qing Feng. Guan Zhen Lei is determined to destroy his sister's life. Who does Guan Dad choose? The answer is obvious. Guan Dad phones Guan Yu Qing and asks her to eat out with him, just the two of them. While Guan Yu Qing thinks dad finally loves her, Guan Dad asks her to delay her marriage indefinitely. His reasoning: if they don't help Guan Zhen Lei now, his life will be ruined. Guan Yu Qing asks him back if he ever loved her. Guan Dad has the audacity to question her back when has he ever wronged her. Wow. WOW.
Guan Yu Qing pauses for a long time: Dad, I'll ask you one thing, if I went into surgery the same time as him (Guan Zhen Lei) and the surgeon says he can only save one, who will you save?
There's a cold smile on Guan Yu Qing. That's because this scenario actually happened. When she was in the car accident (that Guan Zhen Lei caused!!) dad chose to save Guan Zhen Lei. Omg. Guan Yu Qing takes the alcohol she brought and pours herself a cup. She calls him “Dad" but that will be the last time she calls him that. She won't be his daughter anymore.
Guan Yu Qing is way too used to handling everything by herself. At this moment she's still crying alone on the street. Girl, why don't you find Xu Qing Feng?
Guan Mom yells at Guan Dad for hurting their daughter like that. Guan Zhen Lei hides behind the aquarium, guilty of instigating everything. Guan Yu Qing stops by home. She gives her keys back and a card full of money. She also promises to give allowance every month. However, anything that happens in the family she won’t intervene nor will she care. Guan Dad chases her out on the street but she doesn’t turn around at all.
[Ep36] Xu Qing Feng takes Guan Yu Qing to a renowned psychologist to untie the knots in her hearts. She cries her heart out and feels much better. However, Guan Yu Qing has no intentions of inviting her father, I mean, stranger, to her wedding.
Without Guan Yu Qing, Guan Dad realizes it was her daughter who has been paying all the electricity/gas/water bills and she's prepared a shelf full of medication for his back pain with detailed instructions on each package. Guan Dad waits at the airport and learns that Guan Yu Qing is the pilot who has logged the most hours. I wonder why she flies the most. Cause her family doesn't care about her, duh. Guan Dad apologizes to Guan Yu Qing. She doesn't turn around.
Guan Yu Qing: I always waited for your apology. But do you know there's an expiry date for apologies?
Guan Yu Qing walks away.
[Ep37] The following two episodes are one of the funniest ones so far.
Xu Mom is back to normal! She has decided to move in with Xu Qing Feng to take care of the both of them (including Guan Yu Qing). Xu Qing Feng laughs a cold laugh. LOL. I can’t believe I’m smiling so widely at this, hahaha. At dinner, Xu Mom asks about the wedding guests. She gives an advice but emphasizes that they don’t have to take it. She doesn’t think Sun Xiao Bai should be invited and this other friend of Xu Qing Feng’s. But of course it is Xu Qing Feng and Guan Yu Qing's decision to make. Not really. Because Xu Mom HIGHLY insists to not invite them. Period. Hahaha. Xu Mom is definitely back. I kind of missed her.
Xu Qing Feng tries to get his mother to join senior classes to get her off his back. Guan Dad has a rendezvous with Director Gao and realizes Xu Mom might be an obstacle in Guan Yu Qing’s married life and so he entices her to join senior classes. Xu Mom’s rivalry with Guan Dad is stirred and with the goal to beat him, Xu Mom immerses herself in these classes. Thus ensues a hilarious interaction between Xu Mom and Guan Dad. They’re like toddlers fighting in class.
Xu Mom is absolutely determined to surpass Guan Dad. She’s at home studying like crazy. Xu Qing Feng is supervising her. He’s become her guardian (小家長 = Little Parent). He treats her the same way she treated him when he was studying, it’s hilarious!! For example, he limits her phone time and makes her study in intervals. Xu Mom is actually cute. She really wants to excel in class but studying is way too hard.
As the little parent of Xu Mom, Xu Qing Feng has to test her knowledge and send it to the WeChat group. However, because Xu Qing Feng is late coming home, he doesn’t send the video on time. Xu Mom pouts that she can’t score high in class then. Xu Qing Feng suggests to mom to consider Guan Yu Qing to be her little parent too. Mom stares wondrously at her son for even thinking about that. Xu Qing Feng smirks that this is only a suggestion. Hehehe.
Next morning, guess what Xu Mom asks Guan Yu Qing? To her her little parent! Heh. However, she has a condition.
[Ep38] A funny episode but also a Dad episode.
Xu Mom asks Guan Yu Qing that she has to be fair because Guan Dad is also in the class. This is the first time Guan Yu Qing heard about her father in the class too.
As Xu Mom is absorbed with studying, she also finds new friends in class. She’s exposed to a world without Xu Qing Feng. It’s both foreign and wondrous.
With Xu Mom busy, Guan Yu Qing and Xu Qing Feng have alone time. It’s been a while since they’ve had a date without Xu Mom tagging along. Xu Qing Feng has everything prepared for their wedding but Guan Yu Qing is slightly unhappy with one thing. He hasn’t asked her to go to the marriage licensing office yet. He smiles; that’s because he still hasn't properly proposed to her yet. He takes her to the wishing well that he had planned to propose that day.
Director Gao is retiring. When Xu Qing Feng realizes Director Gao is going to leave, he realizes how much he likes this father of his. He finally calls him Dad. Guan Dad is doing all sorts of right things these episodes and invites Director Gao to the senior class. Xu Mom is the least elated of them all but all the ladies in class are smitten with Director Gao. Xu Mom is very jealous. This woman is so funny right now, I have completely forgotten how awful she was in the beginning. Amazing actress.
Xu Mom tells his son she wants to quit. Xu Qing Feng is disappointed with her. How can she quit? Look at Guan Yu Qing’s father. Where will his (Xu Qing Feng’s) pride be? Xu Mom doesn’t like to be compared and quickly gets back to studying. Hehehehe. When Xu Qing Feng isn’t looking she quickly plays with her phone. Xu Qing Feng wants to confiscate her phone. She shows him her empty pockets but the phone suddenly rings from her back. She had hidden the phone behind her shirt. Inside her shirt. She tells him to turn around so that she can fish it out of her shirt. Hehe. Xu Qing Feng looks over her chats and discovers she doesn’t even know the homework. She says she was distracted in class (by Director Gao) and that earns her another round of lecture. Xu Mom peeks up at her son over her glasses.
Xu Mom peeks up at her son over her glasses: Was I like this when you were young?Xu Qing Feng answers without hesitation: Exactly the same.Xu Mom grumbles: That’s was so annoying (of me). Hahaha.
Guan Yu Qing and Xu Qing Feng do this cute thing with their eggs: they knock their charbroiled eggs on each other's and the winner gets to kiss the loser. Guan Yu Qing claims he purposely lost. To him it doesn’t matter, he gets a kiss either way.
Guan Dad finally wakes up and realizes spoiling his son isn’t the way to go. !!!!!!!!! He demands Guan Zhen Lei to pay his bills. Guan Zhen Lei doesn’t take it seriously. The next night he finds no binner. Guan Dad tries his best to ignore all of Guan Zhen Lei's fake cries by pretending to study (but nothing he says makes sense from henceforth).
Guan Zhen Lei: I will leave now and starve to death on the streets!Guan Dad is studying baking: And thus will lead to immediately dying of starvation on the streets. Pft.
Guan Zhen Lei isn't looking very impressed.
Guan Zhen Lei: My left foot has stepped out (of the door), my right foot will follow!Guan Mom quizzes Dad: So do we start with high temperature first or low temperature?Guan Dad: Left foot is high temperature. Right foot is low – wait foot?
[Ep39] Guan Dad is a full fledged cupid by making Xu Mom jealous. He's providing ample of opportunities for Director Gao to be with other women.
Xu Mom fought in school and Guan Yu Qing, being the 'little parent' of Xu Mom, shows up only to be surprised the other party is Guan Dad. He injured his elbow after he and Xu Mom had a confrontation. The teachers asks where Guan Dad's guardian is to which he replies his son and daughter are busy. Oof. Guan Yu Qing remains silent. It's an awkward moment for both father and daughter. Guan Dad apologizes (when he's the one injured) to Xu Mom for Guan Yu Qing's sake. When he couldn't reach out to shake Xu Mom's hand to reconcile, Guan Yu Qing is worried for him. She tells Guan Dad to visit a doctor, she'll e-transfer him the fees. The teacher is surprised that Guan Yu Qing and Guan Dad are close. Well... That whole night Guan Yu Qing is worried if her father went for a checkup. Fortunately mom calls to update her.
Xu Mom and Guan Yu Qing have a cafe date. Guan Yu Qing practically treats Xu Mom like a child and compliments her for accepting Guan Dad's apology, it's so uncharacteristically gracious of her. Guan Yu Qing also helps her take the perfect selfies. Xu Mom's selfie attempts has me laughing out loud. Xu Mom is having so much fun with Guan Yu Qing that she's unconsciously touching her like they're close. Xu Mom is finally accepting Guan Yu Qing as family now.
There's a dance event at school. Xu Mom refuses to dance with Director Gao. While she's dancing with her girl friend, she twists her ankle. Director Gao takes her home and preparse dinner for her. There' a slight smile on her face. He makes her favourite food. Xu Mom is about to cry and kicks him out of her place before she breaks down in front of him. She wants to forgive him but she doesn't want to forgive him.
[Ep40] It's not just Guan Dad trying to be cupid. Guan Yu Qing and Xu Qing Feng are also helping Director Gao. Whenever there's an opportunity, they allow him to make dinner for Xu Mom. When Xu Mom's ankle heals, she's back to the dance floor. Director Gao is waiting for her. He won't dance with anyone but her. Xu Mom finally accepts him. However, he starts talking about the woman who Xu Mom is certain he cheated with. Xu Mom runs away. Director Gao finally manages to bring the woman in question to her condo to explain to Xu Mom and that's how she learns that all these years (30 years!) she had misunderstood Director Gao. He never cheated on her. Although she can't forgive the woman (please don't forgive that woman, by the way what happened to Lan Qiao Qiao???), she slowly forgives Director Gao.
Guan Zhen Lei witnessed a hit and run. He hesitated on helping the man but decides to save the man. It might be outrageous to international viewers how he can leave a dying man on the street and not call for emergency but it is common in China. There are a lot scammers that pretend to be injured and then blame the driver or whoever decides to help them. There are cases of these innocent people who go bankrupt because of these scams. Thus, the common Chinese mentality (not all!!!) is to mind your own business. That's my two cent on Guan Zhen Lei's hesitation. He's accused by the family members for being the culprit. When Guan Dad arrives, he immediately apologizes to the family members for his idiotic son. No one believes Guan Zhen Lei. Xu Qing Feng calmly observes Guan Zhen Lei's reaction. Perhaps he sees that Guan Zhen Lei is wrongfully accused?
After a few days, Xu Qing Feng meets up with Guan Zhen Lei to ask how he's doing. Guan Zhen Lei thinks he's messing with him and sarcastically jokes that he might as well take a knife to his chest and die. Xu Qing Feng doubts he can kill himself like that and describes the precise feeling of being stabbed with a knife. Guan Zhen Lei is effectively scared. Guan Zhen Lei is such a coward. I love Tan Jian Ci's acting.
[Ep41] Xu Mom cannot forgive the lady who ruined her family. However, the person she's angriest at is herself. If only she had listened to him then their son wouldn't have grown up without his father. Director Gao comforts Xu Mom that they have plenty of time now to live together happily.
Next day, Xu Mom has a date with Director Gao. She's eager to leave but Xu Qing Feng and Guan Yu Qing are taking their sweet time with breakfast. Xu Mom wonders why today of all day they're not in a rush, lol. After they finally leave, Xu Mom rushes to date Director Gao. They're doing all the things youngsters do. Although Xu Mom is saying no to everything, she likes it all. Director Gao also publicly performs a song for her. Like father like son, lol. While mum and dad are dating, Guan Yu Qing and Xu Qing Feng finally have alone time too. What do they do on such a rare night? Chinese checkers.
Xu Qing Feng isn't very happy with his mother as her "little parent" when he discovers she skipped class to date though. LOL.
Xu Qing Feng offers Guan Zhen Lei a job as a paramedic. He tells Guan Zhen Lei that if he wants others' trust, he needs to earn it. After working for four days and being utterly exhausted, Guan Zhen Lei calls it quits. Xu Qing Feng tells him it's his life, his choice. He also adds that he saved 17 lives. Guan Zhen Lei, who was furious just a minute ago, absorbs that comment. He's proud of himself. He can actually save lives. He continues to be a paramedic. I can't believe I teared up for this guy.
Guan Zhen Lei is at work. A father is dying and was saved with CPR but his son is too busy to care because he's playing on his phone. Guan Zhen Lei is shocked to the core. How can a son like that exist? RIGHT, GUAN ZHEN LEI. When his father's heart stopped and needs defibrillation, the kid is still playing on his phone. Guan Zhen Lei sees no hope in the kid and turns to leave. As he heads out the room, the doctors announce the father's death. That's when the kid knows his father is really gone. Guan Zhen Lei thinks of his own father. When he returns home, he gives Guan Dad a big hug. He's crying and smiling, telling his dad he must be healthy.
Guan Dad: Do you want money? Did you cause trouble? LOL.
Guan Zhen Lei shakes his head and smiles. The next morning, breakfast is prepared. It's Guan Zhen Lei who made it for his parents. His parents are so confused but happily confused.
Xu Mom has a news to tell her son. She's moving out. Yes! Xu Qing Feng is pretending to be worried about her living alone. Mom tells him she's going to live with Director Gao in their old home. She also shows Xu Qing Feng the ring Director Gao bought for her. There's tears of love in her eyes. I know I've said this repeatedly, but this actress is really that good.
[Ep42] Now that Xu Qing Feng's family is complete, he wants to help Guan Yu Qing with hers. He secretly adds Guan Zhen Lei and Guan Dad on the guest list. Xu Mom enters his room and sees him scrambling to hide something. The usual Xu Mom wouldn't give up on asking him what he's hiding but now she's changed. She lets her son have his privacy. He's at awe. Xu Mom realizes she was wrong in the past. It was her fault his life felt suffocating. This is a touching moment between Xu Mom and Xu Qing Feng reconciling.
Guan Mom invites Xu Qing Feng for high tea. She tells him that although Guan Dad chose to save Guan Zhen Lei, he felt terribly guilty about it. He also had transfused a lot of blood to Guan Yu Qing (which takes a huge toll on a 60-year old man) but because he knows he's guilty, he never allowed Guan Mom to tell Guan Yu Qing at all.
Guan Zhen Lei's hit and run case is resolved. The family members realize it wasn't him. He was actually the hero. They're super thankful of him. It was funny when Guan Zhen Lei's automatic reaction of seeing them was to run and hide, heh. Guan Zhen Lei is also very diligent at work now.
Guan Dad realizes he's not on the guest list to the wedding. There's tears in his eyes. He's a tiny bit comforted when Xu Qing Feng had updated the list to include him (and Guan Zhen Lei).
Guan Yu Qing and Xu Qing Feng register their marriage in their career outfits (she's in her pilot gear and he's in his white robe). Xu Mom and Director Gao register theirs too.

The paramedics are called to Li Bei's home. Guan Zhen Lei freezes at the door. He was told that a pregnant woman had called 120 (China's emergency number). Li Bei is pregnant. He holds onto her hand to assure her that everything will be alright. There's a huge traffic jam. Guan Zhen Lei gets off the ambulance and asks each car to give way. When he reaches to the source of the problem (a car accident), he pushes the car (that has run out of battery) to move it out of the way. For the longest time, he was pushing the car by himself. I cried like a baby for Guan Zhen Lei. Others finally help him push and one by one the cars make way for Li Bei to reach the hospital. Guan Zhen Lei's hand is bloody from pushing the car but that's the last thing on his mind. Li Bei's safety comes first. She's safe and so is the fetus. He was about to ask the parents whose the father thinking that it could have been him but Sun guy arrives. Guan Zhen Lei swallows back his question.
Guan Zhen Lei drinks at a bar and calls Guan Yu Qing to join him. She hung up on him once but since he called again, she entertains his offer. He tells her all about Li Bei. His head is hung low. He looks up at his sister, with a cold smirk he asks her if she's happy. No. She's not. She stares into him and tells him she hurts for him. Guan Zhen Lei finally sees her as his big sister and apologizes to her for all that he's done. Guan Yu Qing leaves him so that he can continue drinking. However, she turns right around and gives her little brother a hug and a pat. She cries for him. A short hug but that's all it needs to show she truly cares for him.
When Guan Yu Qing is at the exit of the bar, Xu Qing Feng is there waiting for her. She cries even more in his embrace. She blames herself that she could have treated him better, showed her love differently, he is her bother after all. Xu Qing Feng tells her he loves her like this even more: her being honest. Guan Zhen Lei leaves the bar and sees them. He actually calls out to Xu Qing Feng as "brother-in-law". Xu Qing Feng was so surprised he almost forgot to reply. Guan Yu Qing smiles and tells her brother to hop on. Guan Zhen Lei happily obliges.
An update on Lan Qiao Qiao: She's arrested by men she tried to scam in her new company. Not fair. How come I don't get to see her downfall???
Xu Mom calls up Guan Dad to invite him to the wedding. She urges him that he will regret not being there for his daughter's marriage. When Guan Dad hangs up, he sighs that it's not that he doesn't want to go, he's not invited.
[Ep44] Li Bei asks Guan Zhen Lei if his job will permit him to accompany her on her prenatal checkups. Guan Zhen Lei stutters that his job is to bring those in need to the emergency, it doesn't encompass prenatal visits. Then he realizes how awful Sun is to not accompany her because that's a father's job! Li Bei stares at him that she is asking the child's father to accompany her. Guan Zhen Lei still doesn't get it. Her parents are outside the room listening and are so fed up at how slow he is, they barge in to tell him that he's the father, lol.
Guan Zhen Lei brings Li Bei home to visit his parents. They have also applied their marriage licence again. Guan Zhen Lei is home to pack his stuff, he'll be moving to Li Bei's home to take care of her. Wait a second, didn't Guan Y Qing already transfer the house to Guan Zhen Lei. Anywho, doesn't matter. Li Bei gets up to help him pack but Guan Zhen Lei stops her. He brought her home so that she can sit and have tea with his parents, not to help him pack, that's his job.
The last resolution still pending is Guan Dad and Guan Yu Qing. Guan Zhen Lei asks dad if he wants to visit Guan Yu Qing, he can accompany him.
Guan Mom finally reveals all her feelings to Guan Dad about how much he favours Guan Zhen Lei over Guan Yu Qing. For the past thirty years, she kept it to herself because of his health but now that Guan Yu Qing is marrying tomorrow, she can't withhold it anymore. Guan Dad knows he's wrong. He blames himself for Guan Yu Yun's divorce. He didn't keep his appropriate distance to her family. For Guan Yu Qing, he didn't understand the "distance" of love and respect. For Guan Zhen Lei, he didn't understand the "distance" of growth and almost ruined his own son's life. Guan Zhen Lei is so precious to him that he wants to put his son in his pocket but he's afraid of dropping him; he wants to put him in his mouth but he's afraid he would melt.
Guan Mom: The best relationship between parents and child is to give them space, not too far, not too close. To love them is to find the right distance, that one centimetre of love.
I did not think the drama would use the title like this. I honestly thought the measurement of distance (cm) was a tiny nod to Guan Yu Qing's pilot career. But then 'km' or miles would make more sense if it was airplane related. To use it on family, I have a new appreciation for this drama. The "distance" Guan Dad refers to is the gap that he couldn't understand to love his children; he couldn't find that one centimetre of love but hopefully from now on he does.
[Ep45] As the marriage is imminent, Guan Yu Qing sends a message to her father, "Dad, please attend my wedding." Guan Dad can't believe his eyes and takes off his glasses to read the message. It's real. He's in tears. As I was watching this, I can't seem to remember how awful Guan Dad once was.
It's the day of the wedding. Guan Dad is late. Guan Zhen Lei is lost driving his father to the venue. Guan Dad questions him whether he's doing it on purpose. There's no way he is that bad at navigation when he was a taxi driver once.
The organizer asks Guan Yu Qing if she still wants to wait for Guan Dad. Guan Yu Qing answers without hesitation that they are to wait. He's her father, she has to wait. He will show up. And he does. Guan Dad apologizes to her. Guan Yu Qing accepts the apology. Never once had she really thought of banning him from her wedding. There was always a spot for him. She was too stubborn (she says). With their hearts opened, Guan Dad takes Guan Yu Qing down the aisle towards Xu Qing Feng. On the way, Guan Dad prepared a slideshow of all her pictures. Ah so he was learning video editing for this. Before Guan Dad gives her hand to Xu Qing Feng, he embraces her daughter.
Our newlywed has planned their honeymoon, but COVID-19 is happening. You read that right. The hospital asks for doctors and nurses to volunteer at Wuhan. Xu Qing Feng is the first one to volunteer. His buddy reminds him he's a newlywed. Xu Qing Feng is positive Guan Yu Qing will support his decision.
[Ep46] As expected, Xu Qing Feng is one of the two doctors selected to help Wuhan. His family and Yu Qing’s family are there to send him off. Guan Yu Qing received an urgent flight call so she’s not here to see his departure. It’s emotional for every health care professional who's to leave to Wuhan because no one knows if they’ll come back home alive.

Remarks
[First Impression (Ep1-6)] This seems like a higher quality family-romance-career drama but I have a strong sense it might go awry with all its melodrama potential, for example in-law fights, family fights. The career scenes are pretty dramatic as well, possibly overboard but for the sake of it being a Drama, it’s alright. I’ve long forgiven the over exaggerated scenes to show off how amazingly awesome our leads are as long as the leads can carry it. Also I don’t mind the future in-law fights. I find it simultaneously funny and awful. The brother is a piece of art that I like admiring far, far, faaar away. Romance-wise, it’ll be more mature because of the leads’ age. I’m curious about how their chemistry will develop so I’ll definitely be in check until then. So far, I think I like this but it's too early to judge if I'll like it to the end.
[Actors/Actresses] I don't know Tong Da Wei but I think he's been around for ages. Tong Li Ya chooses characters I like to support. Tan Jian Ci is in this as a despicable brother. I like this guy but I definitely hate him here. Go Ahead's lovable father (Tu Song Yan) is in this too but I don't think he's going to have the same teddy-bear feeling in this drama.
[Episode 7 Update] This episode is the epitome of it's so awful it's so good. I click into this hunting for appalling family drama. I can't decide who's worse: Guan Dad, Guan Zhen Lei, Xu Mom or Zhao Mei. At this very moment, Zhao Mei beats them all.
[Episode 23 Update] Lan Qiao Qiao is the person I hate the most now. At the same time, I think she's mending Guan & Xu family in her awful ways so I look forward to her scenes a lot.
Also, I've picked up on this: Guan Zhen Lei is the reason Guan Yu Qing can't date Xu Qing Feng with Xu Mom's blessings; Guan Dad is part of the reason for Guan Yu Yun's divorce. Just what has the women in Guan family done wrong to deserve this from the awful men they call family?
The second person I hate: Guan Mom. I really don't like her. It's because she does NOTHING. It's like she's a bystander in her own daughter being kicked out of her own home. All she does is feed Guan Dad. Get a grip, mom!

The ending is rather touching but personally I can’t unsee the propaganda. I also can’t forget how China actually treated Wuhan in those times. Don’t let this comment take away your enjoyments from this drama though. Although I wasn’t entirely impressed, I did tear up when Guan Yu Qing gave her speech to her husband.
Other than the Wuhan part, I was very satisfied with the redemption of all the awful family members that I did not think was even possible when I started the drama.
Final Review
[Review] I highly recommend this, but not for the usual reasons. The Centimetre of Love is not beautifully romantic, or insanely funny or cunningly smart. It’s none of that. It’s just one wild ride with a toxic, toxic family. I can’t remember when was the last time I was this agitated for a drama. It makes my blood boil to a new high. It’s such an aggravatingly addictive drama and yet at the heart of this is two pure souls who truly deserve some proper loving.
The Toxic Dysfunctional Families. Xu Qing Feng is raised by a single mother. She (Xu Xiu Lan whom I call Xu Mom) has her son latched so tightly he can barely breathe. He can’t eat, sleep, text or breathe in peace without his mother monitoring his every move. Perhaps Xu Mom believes it is love, to give her son twice as much since he didn’t grow up with a father, but to Xu Qing Feng, it is torture. Because of his mother, he sees no future in marriage.
Our other main lead, Guan Yu Qing, is the opposite. She yearns for her father’s love, just a bit would be enough but even that is denied. She is the second daughter of the Guan family. She has an older sister and a younger brother. Her older sister has a different mother so she feels like the oldest in the family, the one who should be responsible especially if her brother causes trouble. That brother of hers makes me livid. He’s this living piece of volatile trash but Guan Yong Nian (Guan Dad) treats him like a precious treasure. This son of his can do no wrong. Guan Yu Qing, the awesome pilot, can just foot the bill; if one house is not enough then two houses it is. To Guan Dad, Guan Yu Qing is merely a tool to replenish the family’s resources so the brother can live as he please. Guan Dad’s polarizing favouritism drove me bonkers. How can a father unconditionally love a son who has continuously betrayed him but not the daughter who was always filial to him. 犯賤.
In the first half it felt near impossible for our main leads’ families to redeem themselves. I was set on never forgiving Xu Mom, Guan Dad and Guan Zhen Lei, but in the end I wept for all of them. It’s not that they’ve completely undid their wrongs. It’s just that they have changed. No matter how awful they were in the beginning if Guan Yu Qing and Xu Qing Feng are willing to give their family a chance and their family are willing to change, as a viewer I’m happy.
The “Villains". Although Tong Li Ya and Tong Da Wei are the main characters and they’re sweet together, it’s the evil, awful family members that make this drama aggravatingly addicting.
Xu Xiu Lan. This woman is a delight to hate. Despite how awful she is, her logic makes sense most of the time. To be honest, I find her amusing as long as she’s not suffocating her son. Surprisingly, she became the highlight of this drama for me whether she was hilariously battling her potential daughter-in-laws or cutely attending school. During her redemption arc, she was the cutest thing in this drama. To me, she made a satisfying redemption.
Guan Zhen Lei. I refuse to believe there’s a brother more appalling than this one. He’s a leech that sucks his sister dry and yet his father would dote him like he’s a baby – a 30 year old baby. Frankly, he’s an insult to babies. A crying, peeing, pooping, and shrieking baby would be a thousand times better than him. This guy cannot redeem himself. There’s no way. But he did. He really did. In the end he made me sob. Forgiving him might also be related to the fact that I really like this actor, Tan Jian Ci. His suffering face makes me laugh at times. I was constantly impressed at how well he was selling his awful character.
Lan Qiao Qiao. The home-wrecker. She doesn’t deserve any pity. She also has no redemption arc. It’s a good riddance to her, I just wish I got to see her fall from grace. Her character design was well crafted: guilt-free hate and a formidable opponent. I was always in awe at how cunning she was.
What I like about these toxic characters is that they’re relatable. It’s not like the crazy makjangs where there are hollering ladies who don’t make sense. These people have their flaws and it’s very human, albeit exaggerated. I don’t think it’s uncommon at all for a Xu Mom (a controlling mother), a Guan Zhen Lei (a lazy bloodsucking brother who plays victim all the time), and a Lan Qiao Qiao (a home-wrecker with obvious malicious intentions) to exist, hopefully not all together in one person’s life.
The Romance. It’s quite innocent. Xu Qing Feng is the man with too much love (perhaps not the right love) who pampers Guan Yu Qing with the love she had lacked all her life. They’re really stable once they’re together.
[Verdict] If you can get over the unrealistic career outlooks of our main leads in the first few episodes and you have a decent blood pressure, this was an agitating worthwhile ride that made me laugh and cry a lot.
Random Recommendation: If you’re up for more crazy (less maddening), try The Last Empress [K]
