Mini Recaps

[Ep1Chen Yi Ming has planned a romantic proposal for Li Si Yu (his girlfriend of four years) but she’s too busy with work to attend. It also doesn’t seem like she wants to accept his proposal.

[Ep2] Chen Yi Ming is laid off when he tried to protect his team from being laid off. Without a job, he still insists on taking half the debt Li Si Yu is bearing for her friend. Li Si Yu reluctantly accepts his offer after he said that he wants her to rely on him. He truly loves her and prioritizes her but Li Si Yu puts work before him. She’s not ready to give up her life to be married. Hm, so that's her mindset on marriage: giving up something.

[Ep3] Senior manager is playing dirty on Li Si Yu. Chen Yi Ming can't find a new job and continues to hide the truth from Li Si Yu. He's still helping her pay half the debt.

[Ep4] Li Si Yu protects an intern from being fired after she finds out the intern's family member is surffering from lung cancer. That's how her mother died too. She asks Chen Yi Ming if she's being too emotional in this. Chen Yi Ming tells her why he loves her so much; it's because she's generous. He's supportive of her decision. It's interesting to note, Chen Yi Ming is fired for this very reason: too emotional, too nice.

[Ep5] Li Si Yu is finally going head to head with her two-faced manager. Nothing new with Chen Yi Ming; still unemployed.

[Ep6] Li Si Yu misunderstands Chen Yi Ming for cheating on her. It’s quickly resolved and thus she finally learns he was laid off. She is positively motivating him. The next morning, she hires him. He thought he was attending a legit interview. He tells her to not mess with him. She’s serious as ever. She’s hiring him to be her husband. This position also has a chance for promotion. He can be a dad and then a grandpa. That’s a sweet proposal. He rejects it for now. He doesn't think he's ready for it now. Li Si Yu is supportive of his decision.

Remarks

[First Impression (Ep1-6)] This is different from the other family/relationship dramas in how it’s more balanced between the males and females (given Zhu Yi Long is in this). It's finally not a female-centric drama and it focuses more on career. However, I think this pales in comparison to many of the family/relationship dramas that have aired/are airing. I cannot understand the high praises for this drama except that it has these high profile actors giving their normal A-game. These types of long, self discovery dramas usually aren’t ones I dig, but because the recent ones have either been endearingly relatable, sweetly romantic, or smart and funny, I have been delightfully entertained. This drama checks none of those boxes. I probably will not continue to watch this.

[Actors/Actresses] I should be talking about Liu Shi Shi and Zhu Yi Long here but I’d rather talk about Li Ze Feng. It feels like I’ve seen him without a break for two-thirds of the year.

[Dropped] Zhu Yi Long, next time.
