No one was sure this was going to air July 28 as rumoured – not even their own Weibo account. They were cautious until the last minute because they were racing against the clock to make the release happen. According to Wu Jin Yan and Chen Zhe Yuan's livestream, they didn't even have time to use their promotional material.
Royal Betrothal 御廷謠 adapts Xing Yan Yan's political romance novel 江山為聘 Jiang Shan Wei Pin, which was the original Chinese title.
Produced by Lv Hao Ji Ji and Yu Zheng (Huanyu Film). The drama reunites Lv with Wu Jin Yan after their success with The Double, which was a major career revival for both the actress (WJY) and director (LHJJ). It also reunites Lv with director Zhang Yan Jie after Rebirth, where Lv was main director and Zhang as the second-listed director.
After the floppy reception of Rebirth, Lv’s team might need an actual reincarnation arc with this one to recover. It's just not Lv Hao Ji Ji's year with his Generation to Generation also underperforming. Hopefully third time's the charm.
Filming wrapped on November 11, 2025. (Which means Wu Jin Yan's mat leave was impressively short.)
