Chinese Title: 苏染染追夫记 (Su Ran Ran Zhui Fu Ji)
My masked guy is back!
Episode 7
The cute parents are trying to hook up their kids (Qin Lang
and Ran Ran) despite them already being engaged. Like I said, they’re cute
parents – without much brains. They arrange for their children to meet at Ran Ran’s place and Qin
Lang is more than willing to go because he wants to see Ran Ran but he doesn’t
know she’s Ran Ran. He mistakes her as Biu-Jie because the handkerchief that
Ran Ran dropped the other day had Biu-Jie’s name. Neither does Ran Ran clarify
the misunderstanding. She just leaves him hanging but the guy is still smitten
with her. But why do you
love her may I ask? Because she bumped into you? Because she almost drowned in
the water? Because she crawled out through a dog-hole?
The real Biu-Jie is library-ing. She’s researching about
“Jiu Ban Ling Zhi” (the magical ingredient that can save Ran Ran) and
coincidentally bumps into Lou Xuan who is also coincidentally researching about
“Jiu Ban Ling Zhi”. We know Biu-Jie’s motive is to save Ran Ran but Lou Xuan’s
motive is still unclear. Thus, Biu-Jie’s on high alert around this guy.
Lou Xuan takes her home where 3rd Bro (aka the
piece of wood) was waiting for Biu-Jie’s return outside the gates. This guy has
been waiting there since she left without moving an inch.
When Lou Xuan drops
her home, he tells her they shall meet at the library again (modern day
translation: it’s a date). The piece of wood is still a piece of wood. When Lou
Xuan leaves though, his jealousy erupts. He questions Biu-Jie about her relationship
with Lou Xuan but she doesn’t reveal much, not because she actually had a date
but because Ran Ran’s situation is a secret.
Biu-Jie is disappointed in 3rd Bro’s
lack of trust and out of spite she tells him she’s agreed to marry Lou
Xuan. She drops all familiarity with 3rd Bro too, calling him Biu-Ge
instead of 3rd-Biu-Ge. It’s like calling your “Uncle Freddy” simply by
“Uncle”, it more distant without the name attached.
Inside Ran Ran’s home, Qin Lang is alone in the garden
(because he was ditched) and so the parents accompany him. He tells them he’s
been investigating a case where women were being sucked dry of their blood past
midnight. OMG WE’RE DEALING
WITH VAMPIRES?
Episode 8
5th Bro is the overseer of all things. He sees the
supposed love triangle between Lou Xuan, Biu-Jie and 3rd Bro and the
supposed unrequited love Qin Lang has for Biu-Jie (Qin Lan was eyeing Biu-Jie thinking
she was Su Ran Ran). Basically, he sees all the wrong things.
The two men, 5th Bro and Qin Lang, go on a
date have tea and with Qin Lang repeatedly mentioning “Biu-Jie” (when he
really meant Ran Ran), 5th Bro can only assume Qin Lang likes Biu
Jie. Deviously, 5th Bro updates him Biu-Jie is considering a
proposal from the Lou family. Qin Lang’s smile falters.
Guilt is eating up Ran Ran for lying to Qin Lang about her
identity but that feeling vanishes the second 9th-Shi-Xiong (her senior #9 at
Tai Yi Shan) steps into her room. Apparently it was almost mission impossible getting
in to see her (in reality, he just followed 5th Bro in through the
entrance). By the way I should mention that 9th-Shi-Xiong was the
guy that warned Ran Ran of her upcoming marriage in the first episode. If it’s
not obvious, I will tell you that he’s harbouring an unrequited crush on her.
7th Bro barges in Ran Ran’s room and being the
overprotective brother, the two grown men fight over Ran Ran. Their hostility
escalates into a cat fight. Yes, a cat fight.
Frustrated, Ran Ran screams for help from Shi-Jie. I guess
she’s the controller of cat fights.
That’s when we switch scenes to Shi-Jie at Tai Yi Shan.
She’s kept her word to Qing Tian about keeping her presence a secret from the
other disciples. She even personally washes her laundry and cooks for her. Qing
Tian finally trusts her and reveals her name.
Switch to Lou Xuan and Biu-Jie. They’re at the library
researching about Jiu Ban Ling Zhi. This time she directly asks him why he’s
searching for the herb. His answer is simple: it’s to save someone. Dun dun dun
duuuun~~
Outside in the city, Qin Lang is on the search for the
murderer (i.e. vampire). He’s hunting down a girl dressed in red with bells. Hey I just noticed she’s looking
at those masks that Ran Ran was looking at that night when she first bumped
into Qin Lang! Is there a significance there?
At night, whilst Ran Ran is sleeping, a dark clothed man
enters her room. It’s Ri Xuan. He watches her sleep peacefully and softly
glides his fingers over her ears. He really likes her ears, doesn’t he?
He’s about to leave when Ran Ran suddenly sleep talks: “Who are you? Just who are you?”
Unable to leave anymore, Ri Xuan sits again and tucks her back properly, sweetly calling her
silly.
In a more solemn tone, Ri
Xuan tells her: “(You) can’t forget me.”
Ri Xuan watched
over her until the entire night and in the morning he makes a vow to himself: “In
the past, the one who protected you was him. Now, the only person who can
protect you is me.”

Yup this is totally my guilty pleasure.
But I so did not sign up for vampires.
And lastly, Ri Xuan, I see you've got a fetish for ears.
