Drama Overview & Review

Pan Yue Ming is the ML, but also the Art Director. (If not for the Hi6 promo where he showed some of his art side, I'd be even more shocked.) One of the production company is also his agency: Yuekai Entertainment (悅凱娛樂).

Directed by Wang Zhi (You Are My Glory and Flight to You). Our romance director giving us a police crime drama now.

Wrapped on July 8th, 2024.

Pan Yue Ming & Wang He Di 👨‍👨‍👧. They're shifu and tudi, work-wives, and might as well share custody of a daughter too xD. They start off on the wrong foot, with mismatched energy, but gradually evolve into a team. (I feel like there's only one team moment I love though, lol. The elevator reenactment. The poster!) The series under-develops their bonding moments. However, their biggest strength lies in their professional persistence. They consistently push through this case. [Top | Skip »]
You stink me.
I stink you.

Jiang Qi Lin as Wang Shan Long 🐉. Him and his indestructible head. [Top | Skip »]
Looking like an Asian pear with the protective foam sleeve.

Ren Min as Little He 🥚. There's three timelines – 1997, 2015, and a 2012 – with 3 different Ren Mins. But I'm sorry. Where the story focuses more on her (2012, and 2015) is where the drama drags. Not her fault. [Top | Skip »]
A good tudi to Rang Fang Xu shushu
A sweetie to Qiao Su Qing
A brat to her father, lol
All grown up?

Jiang Pei Yao as Qiao Su Qing 🌤. She's Wang He Di's CP. I guess it's a reunion? They were both in Only for Love. [Top | Skip »]

Ending CliffsNotes. Ha–ppy? Ending Explained. [Top | Skip »]

The central culprit behind the chain of murders is:

(!!! Scroll for Spoilers !!!)

Xu Meng, the "missing" girl.

Everything traces back to a traumatic mountain. Xu Meng and Qiao Su Qing were so in love with each other that they wanted to become sisters and even tried setting their parents up together. Except the temperature dropped – dramatically. Father Xu tried to strip an unconscious Qiao Su Qing of her clothes to keep himself warm and in the confrontation Mother Qiao was pushed down the slope.
Father Xu ended up being very ill and blamed Xu Meng that it’s her and Qiao Su Qing’s fault that he’s ill. Xu Meng had felt the responsibility that she had to help her father and prostituted herself to make money, but her turning point was when Father Xu threatened to kill Qiao Su Qing. The muder of the father began accidentally, but then Xu Meng ultimately chose to stand there and watch him die instead of saving him.

Qiao Su Qing learns the truth about Father Xu killing her mother, and Xu Meng (accidentally) killing Od Yao for her. And so she commits to helping Xu Meng free herself and they stage it as a missing case. (In the elevator, on Xu Meng’s back was Qiao Su Qing disguised as her father.)

Xu Meng was responsible for all the murders throughout the series, including Old Yao, Wu Shan Long, the keyboard boy, and even Ran Fang Xu. She staged many of the deaths as accidents, mainly using oil spills that caused the victims to slip and fall.
Qiao Su Qing did not know the full extent of Xu Meng’s crimes – especially that Ran Fang Xu had also been killed by her. It is only during Little He’s interrogation that Qiao Su Qing finally learns the complete truth, leaving her emotionally devastated by the end.

[Review & Rating] By cynlynn.
What surprised me most about this drama is the level of detail in how everything connects. There are many small, intentional links. And even if the timeline transitions jump around a bit too much, there is clear effort put into weaving the past and present together. It’s the kind of drama where, if you enjoy it, you could go back and find additional layers and connections on a rewatch.

The first 14 episodes were the most engaging for me, especially the uncertainty around whether Wang He Di’s character. But after that there is a middle drag stretch – with a stronger focus on Ren Min’s storyline. Sorry Ren Min, lol. But it's not her fault. Her entire arc could have been removed from the drama in both timelines.

By the final stretch, the resolution leans on testimonies and verbal explanations. I find that this is a less compelling way to resolve a mystery. Emotionally, I also felt the drama could have gone further like fully developing the relationships that anchor the story: the duo partnership, the team dynamics, and the "family" relationship. They're all there. It's just missing an emotional push.

Wang He Di is a bit wooden lol. I can see him doing his best to act this character’s rigidity, but it isn't the most natural fit for him. I still enjoy watching him though, ha. Jiang Pei Yao. I like her, I really do. Is it not time for a FL drama! And Jiang Qi Lin unexpectedly gave me quite a few moments of laughter.

Rating: 2/5  It’s really not that bad! And it's definitely not a lack of effort – in fact, you can clearly see how much thought went into the structure and interconnected details. It just doesn’t quite come together in a way that fully realizes its potential for me. (Or maybe I'm just not that into C-crime dramas! I just don't walk out of these dramas feeling good because ending righteously is not feeling good.)
