A divorce lawyer helps a divorce lawyer divorce.
Good Comrade
A wholesome divorce drama. I love that the cases are simple, but the emotions are full. There's lots of feelings – sympathy and empathy – without being overwhelmingly heavy or drastically sentimental as you would expect from "divorces". The marriage disputes are closer to home (e.g. a fully functioning adult husband who can't fetch his own water). There's bits of ourselves or people you know in every dynamic portrayed.
But it's not like I watched this, wanting to watch divorces... What kept me initially was Jang Na-ra's personality for her character: prim and poised. When her junior was harassed, she hopped away and abandoned her like it was the most natural thing to do. Fell for her right here, haha. Even so, she still gave an aura of indifferent heroism. Then it was the first case. It's a good hook despite or because our ladies were representing a shameless cheater. It sets the tone and promises light humour. Han Yu-ri was funny at shamelessly defending her shameful client. You could see her moral compass wildly oscillating as she unwillingly finishes the job.
The best part that surprised me is Cha Eun-kyung's (FL) divorce scene. I love it when quiet, simple scenes are powerfully emotional. They were only silently signing the papers, but my tears were gushing out. It was sad that it had to end like this, and relieving that it ended like this. Instead of heartbreaking, it was healing. Choices were made, and it's not about making the right ones, but finding peace in them.
On the other hand, the silent (loud) crush from Jung Woo-jin (Kim Joon-han) was pretty good at making me yearn for his romance...and of course I am disappointed in him. Woo-jin, ah! Am I asking for something unreasonable of you?
Solid show, regardless. It's not a must-watch, but if you commit to it, this will feel good.
P.S. Cha Eun-kyung has the best relationship with everyone: Han Yu-ri, Han Yu-ri’s mom, her daughter Jae-hee, and of course Woo-jin (oh, Woo-jin!).
