[Ep1-6

ML's Daddy (King Xin) looking great:
And here we have the son, Wu Geng:
Wu Geng will be taking A Gou's body:
This is the girl who takes care of this body, Bai Cai (=cabbage):
Wu Geng's mother (Xin Yue Hu) had predicted the calamity, and created a body (A Gou) for Wu Geng to take refuge from the gods. Wu Geng might be just be the legendary warrior who will save mankind. But for now, he'll be A Dog (A Gou). When you spell dog backwards....

Our good looking tyrant, oppressing mortals:
Whew! He's Hei Long and here are his evil underlings:
Qi Yan Di is permanently stuck to this guy eh
Hei Long's lover is Bai Long
(Their names sound like Black Dragon and White Dragon)
This will be Our "Dog's" lover:

[Ep7-12] As mere mortals, A Gou and Bai Cai are enslaved. A Gou surprisingly has godly powers: fiery fists. Meanwhile Bai Cai has a freezing disease that's healed by a touch from A Gou (our hawt dawg). They're at odds with Gui Mu (Poison Immortal), who's eating mortals!
I'm loving the weirdest stuff. This lovely orc ↑ 😭😭. He sacrifices himself to save Wu Geng, the only man who shed kindness to this beast. All the brainwashing shouting ↓ 😂: Qiao'er! Cha Cha! Die Die! A Gou!
A love triangle. A Lan whisks A Gou and Bai Cai to safety. She's part of the "Hidden Immortals", a clan that is anti-tyrant-Hei-Long. The tribal leader is Fu Xi. He has been observing A Gou in the mine, and knows he's Wu Geng. They're supposedly grandson and grandfather because Fu Xi is Xin Yue Hu's father. But I think Wu Geng's real parents are Prince Turns Into a Frog CP (Ming Dao and Joe Chen's characters). It's fitting! Wu Geng is a Prince Turns Into A Dog! xD. A Lan is assigned to be Wu Geng's shifu.
I love Zhu Xu Dan on a reindeer
ML sandwiched between his 2 FLs on a reindeer.
New things everyday
Doggy might be falling in love with his Cabbage over A Lan shifu though.

Xin Yue Kui (ML's aunt for now) is Gui Mu's master, and both are after A Gou. She thinks he's the prophetic mortal hero.
I love her charisma

Finally!! The powers ranked
↓↓↓↓

1st: Colourless
Enemies: Hei Long
Allies: Wu Geng (potentially)

2nd: Legendary Beasts/Spirits
Allies: King Xin

3rd (1): Malevolent Spirits
EnemiesShi Xing (Wolf)
Allies: A Lan (Assassinating Butterfly)

3rd (2): Seers
Enemies: Xin Yue Kui
Allies: Fu Xi, Xin Yue Hu, Bai Long

3rd (3): Nature
EnemiesTian Kui (Thunderbolt), Gui Mu (Poison)
Allies: Zi Dian (Lightning) Kong Que (Healing)

Bai Cai is...?
Bai Cai doesn't know she has the power of crystallization. She can kill by turning people into crystals. She thinks it's Fu Xi who slaughtered her parents, but it's actually Xin Yue Kui who coveted her powers, which Bai Cai's father had sealed.

[Ep13-15] Daughter vs Father (Xin Yue Kuai and Fu Xi). Daughter wins and strips her father's prophetic eyes.
A Gou vs. Shi Xing. Shi Xing wins and strips A Gou of his Bai Cai. The weapon-maker didn't want his canon used for war. Dude. What'd you make it for? Fireworks?
Our Hidden Immortals (Team Fu Xi) suffer a great loss. At least Kong Que safely gives birth. The moment she's done child labour, she's labouring to save a dog – A Gou. Oh motherhood. Is it not better to die?

And don't tell me that's how the rapist (Zi Dian) is redeemed

Fu Xi left a voicemail. A Lan is to kill Bai Cai if necessary. She conceals that order and travels with A Gou to save Bai Cai from Shi Xing. She also doesn't tell him that she, A Lan, loves him, A Gou.

[Ep16-17] Bai Cai is really cai. Weak. She's lost. She needs saving. She's strangled (again). Her strangler is Shi Xing, who has these massive migraines. It's a curse by Xin Yue Kuai to control him as a machinery of murder. Ah, A Gou using the cannon to battle Shi Xing was a metaphor. Both are a machinery of war. He can't recall his love, but he cannot forget his pain. It's never-ending and he will never die.
A Gou is reunited with his uncle (Zi Yu), who is (self-)imprisoned by Shi Xing.

Oh great uncle transfers his godly powers to A Gou instead of keeping it and beating Shi Xing himself. Ok. Now there's two godly powers circulating in A Gou (the half-baked colourless powers and Zi Yu's).

A Gou needs to train his mind to control the power or the powers will control him.
Colourless Powers no longer half-baked! This divinity appears so timely. Are you another great uncle?

Shi Xing is finally defeated by A Gou.

But!

Bai Cai says she can save Shi Xing. He's like them, tortured by the immortals.

Bai Cai's grand plan: wear a wedding dress. OK

And it works! I never doubted you, Cabbage
Surprise, surprise, there's more than just Bai Cai wearing clothes, a touch from her, and she can lift Shi Xing's curse, freeing him from this living hell. Is it already bye-bye Mi Re time?! And did he not touch her this whole time? That would have solved this whole arc. So who is Bai Cai? Her powers originate from the primordial immortals.

[Ep18-20] A Gou's upgrade comes with a new power: he can virtually smash Xin Yue Kuai's seer eyes, preventing her from spying on them.

Demons (e.g. Sui Feng Qi Wu = Dance With the Wind) are protecting Bai Cai. We're not sure if they're friends or foe yet. She transports them to her demon realm while separating our trio.

A Gou literally breathes and ends the Endless Nights that have been plaguing the Demon Realm. Aight. If I'm interpreting this correctly, A Gou's Colourless powers just needed to appear for the Star (Armillary Rock Ocean) to react, which freed Yong Heng Zhi Ye (His name means Endless Night). His vanishment stopped the endless nights (and I assume he was imprisoned here by the immortals).

An update on Uncle Zi Yu. He's not in the demon realm, but in his own realm...somewhere. He's going to be on-call for when A Gou needs him. And omg, even as kids (Zi Yu and King Xin), they have the same grey/explosive hair

An update on Bai Cai. No surprise, she needs saving. Who will be the unlucky lad: this new, hot demon: Ni Tian Er Xing (= To Go Against the Heavens)
The Demon Realm has it worse than the Mortal Realm. Mortals are slaves, but the demons couldn't see the light of day, have no hope of living beyond 40, and while they're living, they're sick and starving.
Ni Tian Er Xing protects Bai Cai because she's a demon like him! Bai Cai can also treat the demons of their terminal illness. She tells A Gou everything, who's endearingly accepting.
The alliance between the Demons & Hidden Immortals is still pending, however. A Lan is not on board. She is racist has her concerns about the demons from her past experience.
The Immortals (particularly Shen Yan = God Eye) are the Demons mortal enemy. Shen Yan perforated poisonous flowers all over the demon realm, infecting every demon with a terminal disease forever. Shen Yan also killed their original ruler, Hai Kuo Tian Kong (= Whole Wide World).

[Ep21-24] The real couple (according to me): A Gou and Ni Tian Er Xing. Apparently Xing Fei was shipping them on set too. They never abandon each other, and that's the key to retrieving the fire emblem from the Undead Phoenix. But also, A Gou. He knew the fire emblem can treat (not cure) the stone-illness and didn't react until the little girl was dying? Sir.
Now they ride a bird together. A Gou's harem....(;

Ni Tian Er Xing princess-carries A Lan (hmmm?) after his subordinate (A'Wu) injured her because of her nationality.
Xing Yue Kui exposes the secret that Ni Tian Er Xing has kept from his people. The flower isn't the cure, but the poison. All hope has crumbled. The people have never been so devastated. Ni Tian Er Xing quits as the General and accepts his punishment for concealing the truth.
A Gou whips Ni Tian Er Xing the hardest.

A Gou: Didn't you say you and I have one heart!

This is cruel love from A Gou so that his blind people understand this man (Ni Tian Er Xing) loves his country and his people more than he loves himself.
A'Wu knows Ni Tian Er Xing very well. "Your heart has everyone, but yourself." He knows her feelings too. But here's why he's unworthy: "A'wu, I don't have much time." He's dying because of the stone-disease. I have no clue if NTEX is supposed to end up with anyone, but I'm shipping him with everyone! I didn't think I liked A'Wu, but she made me cry!
Mi Re is back! Shi Xing was always alive but is in purgatory. He's punishing himself for his sins. A Gou calls him a coward. He knows he was cursed, and the real enemies are the gods, but he's too chicken to face them. Shi Xing is invigorated. He's no longer a chicken as he suits up with the undead Phoenix. That's pretty cool, but why does he need Peter's Ho hair!!

Ni Tian Er Xing and Bai Cai also have a shifu-student moment. He teaches her "transportation". I wish I could understand these lessons. I'm not supposed to physically count the # beads that fell. I'm supposed to feel how many beads fell.
Bai Cai is giving A'Wu hope that Ni Tian Er Xing does secretly love her too.

The alliance is a go.

A Gou and his two ladies leave the demon realm because we need a ship for all his harem. Going underwater is the only way to the God Realm. Ni Tian Er Xing gives A Gou a medallion that can summon him. All these guys (Uncle Zi Yu, Shi Xing, and Ni Tian Er Xing) promising to come to him, looool

[Ep25-28] In the mortal realm, there's a problem: we're lacking reproductively active people. There's only children and elders. There's also an immortality fruit keeping everyone from aging and starving. It's from the immortals, but when were they ever so kind to the mortals?
Bai Cai is suspicious that A Gou isn't A Gou, and so she's reluctant to accept his hairpin, which he says is from his mother (Xin Yue Hu). Every moment with him makes her doubt him, until she's certain he really isn't A Gou, but Wu Geng
Qiao'er! (gotta pronounce it properly) betrays his stepdad, Gui Mu. Once a traitor, always a traitor. Gui Mu had imprisoned Qiao'er's father. Due to the immortal fruit, his father transforms into a tree, and dies as bark. Qiao'er! may have an alliance with A Gou, but he doesn't believe they can take down the supreme gods. They're invincible. He's helping A Gou only. to become the new ruler of the city.
Cha Cha! is back too. This spoiled brat and his father clearly look like the better allies.

Xin Yue Kui manipulates Bai Cai to turn her against A Gou as per the prophecy. A Lan finds out and executes her shifu's orders: to kill Bai Cai when necessary. A Lan confesses to Bai Cai that she does love A Gou. But interracial love is forbidden, and the punishment will always fall on the mortals. It was like that for King Xin and Xin Yue Hu, and Shi Xin and Ming Yue.

A Lan fails and is captured by the gods.
Alas, the prophetic moment!

Bai Cai: Are you Wu Geng or A Gou?
A Gou: Whether I'm Wu Geng or A Gou, I will still protect you forever.

Bai Cai sweetly smiles. The sword she pointed at him reverses! Wu Geng sends it flying right back at Xin Yue Kui.

Bai Cai was always team Wu Geng. Her faith in him never wavered. Returning to the mortal realm was for the ship, but also to bait Xin Yue Kai. Unike her dad, Fu Xi who seems to have seen through this (without his eyes), Xin Yue Kui can never tap into the true potential of their seer abilities. She's blinded by evil.

[Ep29Showdown! Avengers, align!
Perfect example of good kids on (our) left, ready to attack, and bad kids on the right, chatting.
Shi Xing had the coolest entrance

Zhou Qiao, the once-a-traitor-always-a-traitor, did not betray Wu Geng! This means A Lan was never captured. Now Zhou Qiao finally kills Gui Mu. I guess this is really the last of Zhao Xun's craziness
The Hidden Immortals, A Lan, Zi Dian, Peacock and Yun Zhong Zi, gang up on Zhui Ri, and are chilling on a gourd-bottle. It's a lot of gods for one enemy, but he's Peacock's brother and they don't actually want to kill him.
Shi Xing kills Sombrero Hunk (Tian Kui), avenging his lover, Ming Yue. I think Tian Kui is the only one in the 6th division who had a conscience and actually displayed decent sportsmanship. Now he's dead

Uncle Zi Yu and the demon trio – Ni Tian Er Xing, Sui Feng Qi Wu, and Loud Guy – duke it out with the  faithless couple (Tai Ji and Liu Yue). They fled, lol
Xin Yue Kui is the lone god, struggling in her grandma pose. She tries fleeing too, but Wu Geng stops her. Lady. If you were going to summon a teleportation door, make it closer? Not 5 feet away. LOL

Xin Yue Kui's 6th Division is nearly obliterated, but they're only one division. There's more gods! Shen Yan orders two Sage Rulers to retrieve her.
What is this kissing distance.
A finger of Sage Ruler Xuan Feng (Cao Yu Chen) sends Wu Geng football fields away. Wu Geng does manage to knock down Sage Ruler Bai Lian. Angered, he wants to beat up the revolts, but Shen Yan orders him to back off. They can't be sore losers.

[Ep30Wu Geng and Ni Tian Er Xing plan their next battle. Wu Geng's mining experience gave him an idea. They can smuggle into the godly realm via cargo ships. But they can't smuggle an army. "Unless...." Ni Tian Er Xing is cut off by Wu Geng who wants him to write down his idea instead and see if theirs match. It's a match! They are to make their own ship. Geniuses! They'd be real geniuses if they could come up with a different conclusion to that preamble. They high-five. Boys. If you wanted to hold hands for 5 seconds, just do it. Ni Tian Er Xing notices the poison on Wu Geng's hand. Ah. That's the point of the high-five
Ni Tian Er Xing: Don't force yourself to be wrong. You and I are different. You still have many days ahead of you. Aw.

Uncle Zi Yu is taking a break too because drama has no lines or scenes prepared for him

Fu Xi and Shi Xing are cautious about Bai Cai. Even Bai Cai is worried about herself. She has primordial godly powers. Just who is she? Her powers can cure Wu Geng's poison too. As she's saving him, however, she seems to be absorbing his powers too.

[Ep31] Bai Cai took Wu Geng's powers for his safety(??).
Peacock apologizes to Zhui Ri for being a terrible sister. Apology not accepted. He leaves the Hidden Realm, but doesn't return to the Godly Realm either.

Zhou Qiao.... is worried about the citizens? He's interestingly ambiguous. He's got an evil face, saying evil words, doing questionably good things.
A'Wu (Sui Feng Qi Wu) is terminally ill along with Ni Tian Er Xing. She's relieved, actually. This way she doesn't have to worry that he'll be alone. He holds her hand. "If it's like that then we'll fight together to the end." She laughs at how unromantic he is, but she loves him like that anyway.

Wu Geng forms an alliance with Cha Cha's father, Chen Jin. It's quite the cryptic alliance.

[Ep32Bai Cai has been overrode. She's controlled by the primordial god in her body.
Xing Fei has a wicked control of her face.

Bai Cai almost kills A Lan had it not been for Zi Dian taking the blow.
The way he shattered felt too real D:  A Lan and Wu Geng are thrown off the cliff. Wu Geng is saved by Bei'er, the Sea Realm's youngest princess. (Meanwhile, A Lan never gets zapped to the same place as Wu Geng.) The Sea Realm are not god loyalists. They're only their watch dogs, oppressed as well. Their ancestors were cruelly beheaded.

[Ep33] Bei'er and her ancestors want to revolt, but her father submits to the gods. She brings him to their ancestral hall where Wu Geng awakens the Ancestral Sea God who reawakens Wu Geng's Colourless Powers by......killing him. Because we all know what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. Unless you die. But Wu Geng, the titular ML, can't die. Will power is too strong!
Harem update: Wu Geng bei-ing Bei'er on his bei

[Ep34] Wu Geng nabs more allies: Fantasy Immortals. Uncle Zi Yu usually trains here, and now he's training General An (mortal).
A Lan update: Shen Yan saved her! This guy is good. And he didn't save Wu Geng first?? Hello.

Wait. Didn't Shen Yan poison the demon world?

Wu Geng lures Evil Bai Cai to Eternal Night's zone, and oh, the misfortune, Good Bai Cai is back. Do the gods not learn? Lured once, almost died. Lured again, defeated again. Wu Geng promises everyone Bai Cai is purified.
Moreover, they can't let the gods have her. Geng Gu used the last of his powers to secure the vestigial souls of the gods, and she's the "key".
The poof in his hair

[Ep35] The love rivals meet: Bai Cai and Bei'er. Innocently, Bai Cai tells Bei'er that Wu Geng already has a girl he loves (= me (as in Bai Cai)). For some reason Bai Cai seems very white-lotus even though she's right. Why am I not on her side, lol. The love rivalry is over before it really started, though. Bei'er dies. She sacrificed herself to save everyone. At her last moment, she gives Wu Geng her magic conch, and confesses to him, but she knows Wu Geng only loves Bai Cai. Then, like little mermaid abandoned by her prince-charming, she disintegrates into pixelated bubbles.
[Ep36] Our team has reached the heavenly realm, and they divide and conquer.

General An is conquered. He dies on the battlefield.

Wu Geng vs. Sage Ruler Bai Lian. Wu Geng is winning and then there's Bai Cai running in, calling her A Gou, and ruining Wu Geng's mojo. Bai Lian's a cheapskate, though. He kidnapped Cha Cha! to threaten Chen Jin, but Chen Jin doesn't betray Wu Geng. Unfortunately, Chen Jin still sacrifices. Oh no, Cha Cha's Die Die!
[Ep37] Wu Geng is drowning in Bai Lian's hyperviscous blood(?), which allows Wu Geng to find and rupture his life vessel. With his vessel in grip, Wu Geng repeatedly smashes Bai Lian like a paddle ball.

Fu Xi is found! But too late. He has a dying wish for Wu Geng: to save his daughter, Xin Yue Kui.
Uncle Zi Yu vs. Sage Ruler Zhen Chan. Except.... Zhen Chan transforms into E Chan (E for Evil. Trust). E Chan traps Zi Yu by his deepest and darkest desires, which happens to be Wu Geng's mother. Zi Yu, however, can discern reality from dream precisely because E Chan obscured his memories of Wu Geng and his dad/brother, which are equally important (even if he loves Wu Geng's mom!). E Chan is defeated.

[Ep38Wu Geng vs Xin Yue Kui. Bye girl. But Wu Geng has mercy, which allows her to escape. Wu Geng! Think about Shi Xing too, your comrade!
Shi Xing vs Sage Ruler Xuan FengI think this is what happened: A chemistry experiment auto-ignited because of low oxygen and now they're both isolated in a vacuum forever.
A Lan – the controller of Assassin Butterflies – assassinates herself.  Technically, A Lan's goal was to kill Hei Long, but she accidentally saved/awakened Bai Long. Then Hei Long swatted our butterfly to her demise. She confesses her love in time to Wu Geng.
Xin Yue Kui's heart breaks for the man she loves who doesn't care about anything – her, his people, the gods – except Bai Long. I love how his eyes are only for Bai Long. Xin Yue Kui's life has turned into a cruel joke. She attempts to kill Bai Long and is killed by Hei Long.

Demon-Loud-Guy (Firefly's dad) announces his arrival to Hei Long and is killed before even seeing Hei Long. That was stupid

Then Wu Geng and Ni Tian Er Xing challenge Hei Long. Hmmmm. How about we let the man have uninterrupted romance? That's kind of interesting too, no? xD

I actually thought it was a gaping plot hole that if Hei Long had intervened sooner, Wu Geng would never have the chance to gather his army. Now I realize Hei Long simply does not care. He only enslaved the immortals to mine the blood crystals needed to revive Bai Long. Everyone else can just die for all he cares, lol. This makes sense now

[Ep39Everyone vs. Hei LongBut it's still one on one. Ni Tian Er Xing has never been this powerful. He hurts Hei Long! Yay! It's like a paper cut...
Ultimately, Ni Tian Er Xing's terminal illness kills him before he can see Hei Long's demise. We see the rest of the romance with Sui Feng Qi Wu. He tells her isn't worthy of love because he can't even give her the basics: his time. He places her hand on his heart, the last of the muscles that can still pulsate. He hopes that she can hear his love and that she can live on.

Ni Tian Er Xing: If there is a next life, I will only be your A Man. T____T
Gen Gu is the evil mastermind. There goes my hopes of a reunion between Ming Dao and Joe Chen. Shen Yan was his spy. They let Hei Long and Wu Geng wear each other down first. Wu Geng is first to go, but unconfirmed if dead.

Bai Long dies. Her life was hanging on a line anyway, but (I think) Gen Gu's suction of the blood crystals during his Transformers phase likely accelerated her death.

Hei Long vs Gen Gu. The ultimate showdown! Then Bai Cai tells Zi Yu to crush her pearl, and now the battle's over before it starts. Gen-Gu-Transformer mode crumbles. Bai Cai is like a remote controller, turning off my entertainment

Hei Long, however, is on a death mission. Bai Long had told him to free himself and free the people. Well, screw that. Hei Long doesn't care about the world. He only cares about the one woman he loves. And so the world can die with her. Let the chaos begin. Well, dang. Isn't he the ML we want? LOL.

Wu Geng! It's time to wake up! But he's currently busy dreaming about Ni Tian Er Xing.
[Ep40] Ni Tian Er Xing (who is dead) transfers his powers to Wu Geng. When he wakes up, he's the new transformer, suctioning all the parts he needs, which is everyone's powers. His suctioning is so strong, the vacuum that enclosed Shi Xing and Xuan Feng opens. Then the Undead Phoenix flies to his new master: Wu Geng. The prophecy comes true. Wu Geng is the true warrior leading everyone('s powers) to defeat Hei Long.
The mortals are free! And then you realize how horrible mortals are too. LOL. Wu Geng nominates the new rulers. The Mortal King is Zhou Qiao, our once-a-traitor-now-not-a-traitor. The Demon Queen is Sui Feng Qi Wu. The Hidden (Land) Immortals will be governed by Peacock and Yun Zhong Zi. The ruler of the Gods will be both Shi Xing and Xuan Feng.
Wu Geng and Bai Cai marry. She's crying, however. That's because she's dying. She vanishes, leaving him the hairpin. Not a single happy couple left

Everyone wants Wu Geng to rule the three realms, but he wants to be free, and to search for Bai Cai. He believes she exists somewhere. Does he find her? Her flowers don't ever seem to wither. The he smiles at the sight of someone we can't see.

The end.

Ending thoughts:
  1. Not that important, but what happened to Peacocks' brother (Zhui Ri))? He just walked off. That's it? I'm all for not forgiving a family member who ditched him, but really, he ain't coming back?!
  2. The final scene is weak because the focus is on romance. Bai Cai could be dead or alive and I don't care.
  3. It's an interesting parallel the show displayed in the end. Both Wu Geng and Hei Long lost the love of their life. Hei Long would destroy the world to save the woman he loves. Wu Geng wouldn't. Hei Long wins. (LOL. Guys, this is why I'm watching fiction!)
  4. Hei Long rocks. I mentioned this already in the recap that I thought it's a gaping plot hole that Hei Long never intervened in Wu Geng's revolt. It turns out that he really doesn't care. That's cool, lol.
  5. Gen Gu being the ultimate evildoer was interesting too (unless I misinterpreted the intro, and I should have known), but the battle to beat him was over too fast. So in the end, Shen Yan fooled Fu Xi into thinking he was an ally and nobody alive will know that. Right?

[First Impression (Ep1-12)] 爽! Underdogs unite! Or maybe it's just a underdog

This is both an exhilarating and a reassuring hero journey. Our ML represents the mortals to take down the tyrant immortals. The world-building isn't your typical xianxia, I am bombarded with characters, but I don't feel confused. I am simply head over heels for them. They're so insane, I love it.

This is headlined by Ren Jia Lun, Ren Jia Lun, and Ren Jia Lun. It's all about his growth from a prince to a dog to a god. A clear main lead isn't so bad because everyone classified as a supporting character earns their fair screentime (i.e. there isn't an overexposure of romance, which I hope will actually make the romance develop better).

I fully expect this to be an exciting and easy ride as ML conquers all evil.

FYI: The original Chinese title is 烈焰之武庚紀. Show dropped the 武庚紀 (Wu Geng Chronicle), but ML's name isn't the same "Wu Geng" = .
  • ML's Name 伍賡 = To Associate | To Continue
  • Chinese Title 武庚 = Martial | 7th of the Heavenly Stems
[Cast&Crew]
  • Gossip. Li Yi Tong was the original FL, but quit because she was accused of changing the script to increase her screen time. (Comment Link)
  • A second drama for Ren Jia Lun and Xing Fei (Miss Crow With Mr Lizard). RJL is all sorts of animals when he's with Xing Fei.
  • Twdrama Prince Turns Into a Frog CP are reunited.
  • Xu Zheng Xi's retirement. It's not related to the drama, but his retirement announcement happens to clash with the airing of this drama. Everyone, devour his hot evilness now! (It's rumoured that it's related to his agency).

[Ending] Mostly Happy

[A Highlight] Whenever Hei Long only has Bai Long in his eyes.

[Review & Rating]
I take it back that the main lead is the ML. It’s clearly CGI at the front, centre, and everywhere. It’s a visual assault of colours on every inch of my screen.
  • A note on Chinese CGI: Once you accept it, it looks great. Then you go back to Western CGI, now damn, that's real stuff. I feel like that's the difference: other countries use technology to visualize the fake into reality, whereas Chinese dramas turn fake into amazingly fake.
What I liked about it: high-octane, straightforward but not always predictable, and most importantly, the crazy villains/allies. Characters like Hei Long, Ni Tian Er Xing, Gen Gu, Gui Mu, and Shi Xing made this worthwhile.
  • No girls in that list. Aw. And no Wu Geng, the ML. Ren Jia Lun did fine as Wu Geng. He’s like a pen among all the Sharpies though. Xing Fei had a moment where her facial expressions were wicked, but her character could live or die and I would not care. Han Dong’s Chen Jin wasn’t all that special, but I want to give him a shoutout for being nearly unrecognizable and giving it his all.
Why I don't like this more: I'm missing a crucial emotional connection with you, show! It’s just not emotionally addictive.
  • Only two characters made me emotional: Ni Tian Er Xing and the orc. With a drama about war, underdogs, team battles, and star-crossed lovers, only two made me teary, one is a supporting guy, and the other is a fake CGI dude. *Slow clap*
  • ML's harem (filled with men and women) gave him unconditional love, but I thought it was superficially established.
  • Romance really sucked. I was prepared to not care for Ren Jia Lun and Xing Fei line, and I'm still disappointed.
  • The team moments. Why must the fights always be one-on-one! What can't we have team combos! I wanted a deep dive in the special powers for each character, and strategically planned battles pitting power against power. Natta. It was a light show. The team only gathers for the fight otherwise they're like "Adios! Call me when you need me." Then when they gather, the most exciting team moment is them standing in a line.
Alright let me just end on a few refreshing points because Show isn’t too bad and every episode was eventful.
  • I like that the villains are the high and mighty gods from the get-go. There’s none of that good-sect-is-actually-a-bad-sect “surprise”.
  • It was revealed very late in the show but I like the parallel between Hei Long and Wu Geng (see ending comment). I would love more Hei Longs as MLs please.
  • It’s not every Cdrama I get established actors dressed for Halloween, acting lucidly crazy.
