Mini Summary

[Cyn-opsis (Ep1-6)Si Teng is revived. She is a Tree – A Tree Demon. Vines come of her hand at her command. Tang San, is that you? Qin Fang is the fated person who revived Si Teng by accident. He was on a trip with his girlfriend (An Man) to find his family’s benefactor from years ago. They don’t find the benefactor and almost die because of An Man’s ex (Zhao Jiang Long) who has a fishy background. Qin Fang practically dies but because he somehow revived Si Teng, he gets another chance at life. Their lives are thus intertwined.

Mutated. Qin Fang tried to ditch this demonic alien but once he’s too far, our ML turns ugly! Now, how can that be? He’s our ML! Therefore, he is forever her slave because he can’t be without her.

A Suspicious Friend. Shan Zhi Gao (Qin Fan’s buddy) investigates into An Man at his buddy’s request. Everything about her was a lie. Although this ex is suspicious, Si Teng brought up a point that Shan Zhi Gao is suspicious too. Why is Shan Zhi Gao so obsessed with investigating into An Man? Does he not have anything else to do (like running their business!)?

Revenge? Xuan Men (an organization that catches demons and such) thinks Si Teng is back for revenge. Years ago, Si Teng was raised by Qiu Shan. This man cultured Si Teng into his own little demon to control. When Si Teng fell in love with a human, Qiu Shan was furious and harshly reprimanded her. Later, Qiu Shan was practically exiled (sorta) for this because Si Teng testified against him.

Unexpected Revenge. Shen Yin Deng (a member of Xuan Men) wants revenge against Si Teng. When Si Teng injured her grandmother, she had planted a curse in their family – a curse that ends their life before thirty and to die in labour. There’s another weird thing about Shen Yi Deng. She looks just like Chen Wan whom Qin Fang knows and who was supposed to have died.

A Favour. They all think Si Teng wants revenge but she wanted to ask them for a favour. She wants them to find someone with similar powers to her.

Mini Recaps

[Ep1
→ Si Teng is killed by a fellow vine controller. It seems as though Si Teng was trying to convince this other girl to not fall in love with a human. I could be wrong. Jia San witnesses the murder. The lady killer threatens him that if he wants to live, then for his family’s every generations, they must guard Si Teng at Dan Na.

→ Qin Fang’s benefactor is from the family of Jia who lives in Dan Na and that’s how he arrived there to awaken Si Teng.

[Ep2
→ There’s a rumour that Si Teng's people can save humans. There’s a sacrifice to pay but Si Teng doesn’t know how it works. Also, the human who is saved will be mutated. But then Qin Fang is still mostly a regular human. She says it’s because she’s only a “Half”.

→ Si Teng’s dream is to be her complete self: a luscious tree.

[Ep3
→ Si Teng hates men. From a flashback, it seems she was betrayed by a man she loved.

→ Dan Zhi Gao advises Qin Fang to find someone to love. Once he’s at his age, he’ll know companion is important. Qin Fang laughs at his old-man-comment to which Dan Zhi Gao replies he’s 100.

→ Si Teng is looking for Qiu Shan. Yan Fu Rui, the disciple of Qiu Shan tells her his master has left. She asks where his grave is but he literally means his master left, like disappeared, gone. She then makes him read the notes his master left on her. One of them reads: 1946 - Qiu Shan destroyed Si Teng. She makes him read that until the truth settles in. Hm. Is she not the real Si Teng who was killed? She told Qin Fang she died in 1939.

[Ep4]
→ It seems Si Teng can retrieve memories by touching vines. From those memories, she sees Si Teng (herself?) being awakened by Qiu Shan. Si Teng also finds her “green silk” which were braids of the young Si Teng. I’m pretty sure the current Si Teng isn’t the little girl Si Teng. Are there two Si Tengs?

→ Si Teng implants “Teng Sha” (Deadly Rattan) in Wang Qian Kun. To lift the Teng Sha poison that will supposedly kill in ten days, she demands Yan Fu Rui to gather the Xuan Men masters. She says she has a favour to ask. Meanwhile the kid, Wa Fang stays with Si Teng and Qin Fang.

→ The gathering of the masters is rather realistic and funny. The calls get misunderstood to be scams more than half the time. Also the masters have real jobs and a regular life. Some are brokers; some are taxi drivers. After receiving the call that Si Teng is back, the masters assemble. Love this. They all think her return is menacing.

[Ep5]
→ Dan Zhi Gao hates all flowers and plants.

→ Si Teng reiterates that she just wants a favour from the masters. Qin Fang is like poisoning the guy is how you ask for a favour? Yes.

→ The masters lock themselves in a room to purify the poison in Wang Qian Kun – minus Yan Fu Rui and Bai Jin. However, the poison rebounds onto the masters. Bai Jin realizes this was Si Teng’s plan all along: to gather the masters together and poison them. Now she can truly ask them for a favour. More like threaten. Lol.

→ Qin Fang asks Si Teng if she used to like watching Beijing opera. He has a vague memory of that for some reason.

[Ep6
→ Si Teng and her Ding Ding Dong poem.

→ Si Teng’s wants the masters to find her a friend in three days. It’s Wa Fang, the kid, who realizes how dangerous that is. One Si Teng is already bad, and now there’s going to be two? So our Si Teng is looking for her other half.

→ Who is Shen Yin Deng? Is she actually Chen Wan who Qin Fang is certain has died? What is up with the magenta eyes?

[Ep7]
→ Qin Fang asks her if she’s fallen in love with a man before. She replies with a question, “Will you fall in love with a tree?” He doesn’t know what she means. She explains they’re different species, how can there be love?

→ The Si Teng killed by Qiu Shan had a baby. The current Si Teng listens to the laughable story. The Si Teng in the story died for love but the Si Teng in drama corrects herself that she died for stupidity. Clearly, they’re two different SiTengs who died 7 years apart. SiTeng1 thinks SiTeng2 is an idiot. Also, where is the baby? The child would be ~70yo if the baby aged at a normal rate

→ Chen Wan is Qin Fang's first love who died many years ago.

→ Si Teng finds resemblance of her old lover in Qin Fang. I don't think they look anything alike. She asks for his great-grandfather's photo. Now Qin Fang thinks she’s his great grandmother. Lol. She smirks and makes him call her that. Haha. But, dw. She’s not. Once she sees his great grandfather’s pic, she knows he’s not “her lover”. I don’t even know if that “lover” was her lover or SiTeng2's lover. It doesn't make sense why she needs to look at Qin Fang from a distance to see if there's a resemblance unless she never saw this “lover” up close

[Ep8]
→ The masters actually have power! So does Bai Jin. Did he lie about not having powers then?

→ Someone is fully out to sabotage Si Teng for evil deeds she hasn't done.

→ Shen Yin Deng is not Chen Wan. Her magenta eyes have hypnotic powers. Si Teng makes Qin Fang "wear" her hair. Lol. He's incredulous at the strand of hair but she tells him he should be grateful down to his soul she's giving him her hair. Also, Si Teng never misses a chance to rub it in that he's got heart eyes for Shen Yin Deng.

[Ep9] Shen Yin Deng is not pregnant. It’s a lie. She tries to hypnotize Qin Fang again and it almost works but suddenly there’s an image of Si Teng slapping Shen Yin Deng. Si Teng isn’t actually there but the slap was real. It’s the power of the hair! Ha.

The two guys with An Man are searching for this Nine-Eye-Sky-Pearl, an antique from Dan Na. An Man is fatally injured from helping Dan Zhi Gao escape. I have a lot of questions for this scene that I can’t make sense of:
  • Shan Zhi Gao is a vine controller too! Or that’s what I thought but I think the lady saved herself? I don’t quite know
  • The lady who escaped with Dan Zhi Gao was the one who told An Man’s ex of the Nine-Eye-Sky-Pearl. She has this marking on her wrist (that looks like Teng Sha?).
  • While fighting, Dan Zhi Gao has this glowing blue pearl on his wrist.
Dan Zhi Gao asks his buddy to come back and see An Man one last time. Dan Zhi Gao seems to really value love and he recognizes An Man truly loves Qin Fang. Thus, Qin Fang asks Si Teng if he can see her. She’s like of course but she’s not going which means Qin Fang can’t go because he can’t physically leave her. But still, he leaves.

Before Qin Fang leaves, he buys Si Teng a flat pair of shoes so her heels don’t get stuck again. She also finds his drawing pad which contain a lot of sketches of her. Is she moved? Yes. Si Teng majestically appears to save him with her vines before he mutates too much.

[Ep10] Qin Fang had hoped Si Teng would come to save him. If this was when they first met, he wouldn’t have any hope but they’ve been together for so long, he doesn’t believe she’d watch him die. He betted right. They get in the car to find An Man. Isn’t it faster to use her vines?

Shen Yin Deng is an alien too! Si Teng didn’t poison Shi Yin Deng’s ancestral line. It was Shen Yin Ding who was killing them to take their identity because she never ages. Her hypnotic powers are also supernatural, not of Xuan Men powers. Her real name is Chi San (Red Umbrella). She’s the real murderer of Wa Fang. The kid died??.

There’s another death: An Man. At least she got to see Qin Fang before her death. It’s raining and he’s crying for her. Si Teng uses her powers to shield him from the rain with her vines. Aw, that’s romantic. In the morning, she makes him human food. As she’s casually flipping through his family album, she comforts him to move on. He’s rather surprised she has sympathy.

Si Teng finds more clues from Qin Fang's family album. She wants to visit his ancestral home. They find a painting with these words and a book that mentions Bai Ying. The problem with me recapping this is I don’t know what half these clues mean. Qin Fang tells her about the Jia family but Si Teng has no memory of this Jia person whatsoever. What. So she isn’t that Si Teng who died? I’m so confused (in a good way)
Qin Fang and Si Teng are out for lunch. The waitresses gossip about Qin Fang being a horrible selfish boyfriend. He’s the only one eating. They have no idea Si Teng doesn’t care about human food. Qin Fang begs her to at least pretend to eat and so he orders all sorts of drinks. She’s in heaven. Aw!! So cute! Also, how lucky is she that her slave is rich and single. He can buy anything for her without any restraint.

They’re looking for Shao Yan Kuan. It seems like Si Teng hates him more than she hates Qiu Shan. He’s the man Si Teng almost married – that’s what she tells Qin Fang. But then it becomes very confusing when they find Shao Yan Kuan’s descendant who tells them Si Teng was his “Er Tai Tai” meaning she married Shao Yan Kuan...

Qin Fang clears it up!!! He deduces there are two Sitengs. They used the same name to live. Shao Yan Kuan had no idea they would switch around and so when he proposed the first time, our Si Teng had rejected his proposal. But our Si Teng died in 1939. SiTeng2 accepted the proposal and married Shao Yan Kuan to be his second wife. Therefore, Qin Fang thinks our current Si Teng is here to look for her sister (SiTeng2). Si Teng corrects him that she’s here to look for the person who sent her to Dan Na.

[Ep11] Yan Fu Rui reports to Si Teng about Chi San / Shen Yin Deng. In the mountain, Shen Yin Deng has planned a trap to kill Si Teng. Thus, our duo climb up the mountain to check out the trap...... Qin Fang wonders how she’s going to walk in those heels. She better not ask him to carry her or something like that. Si Teng smiles and takes out her flats that she gave him. Moments later, it’s Qin Fang who’s huffing and puffing during the hike. Si Teng asks, “Do you need me to carry you or piggyback you?”

Shen Yin Deng wanted Si Teng dead but she’s too curious how Si Teng was able to conceive and revive. She wants a child of her own with the man she loves. She goes up the mountain to change her plans. When Shen Yin Deng almost catches Si Teng coming out of the cave, Qin Fang distracts Shen Yin Deng. He even deliberately falls down the mountain – by the way, this man also has a fear of height. Luckily, Shen Yin Deng saves him (he knew she would).

Si Teng is injured. With a few leaves to wrap herself with, she completely recovers the next day – these were Yan Fu Rui's words. Now that she's back, she misunderstands that Qin Fang betrayed her. She insists to Yan Fu Rui she isn't angry; Qin Fang is human as expected. The next second, she throws away the flats she was wearing and rather go barefooted. Not angry.

The misunderstanding clears up rather quickly. Qin Fang regains her trust. She also asks Yan Fu Rui for her shoes back. She even scrubs them squeaky clean again.

[Ep12] Shen Yin Deng exposes her alien form (Chi San). She still thinks Qin Fang is working for her when he's just helping Si Teng lure her into the trap. In her dying moments, Shen Yin Deng claims Si Teng is this powerful because she's been killing her kind and absorbing their energy. Si Teng raises her hand appearing to kill Shen Yin Deng. Qin Fang pleads for her to stop. But I don't think Si Teng was trying to kill her and now she's disappointed Qin Fang thought that of her. Yan Fu Rui asks Si Teng if he can avenge for Wa Fang's death instead. He lifts his ax but all he can do is shout and cry. He can't kill. And he hates himself for it. But Wa Fang is alive! Sort of. Somehow, Si Teng's vine protected Wa Fang. Shen Yi Deng couldn't kill the boy so she kept him cocoonized. Si Teng is able to save him.

What I don't know: how Shen Yin Deng died. From that dagger? From Si Teng's branches? If it's Si Teng's branches then that whole setup of her not killing her own kind just went down the drain.

Well, Qin Fang thinks Si Teng absorbed Shen Yin Deng / Chi San's energy. What will he do now when be believed the best of her?

[Ep13] Qin Fang and Si Teng kiss! Well, it’s because Si Teng lost control of her powers. From that forced kiss, Qin Fang sees her past. Si Teng was under the orders of Qiu Shan to kill her kind. It was Qiu Shan who delivered the last blow to the aliens and told her to absorb their energy. Qin Fang also sees her love life. Eventually, Si Teng overcame her master’s controls and rebelled against him. And then that loooooooooong kiss ends. Si Teng is herself again but faints.

To a sleeping Si Teng, Qin Fang warmly tells her he knows she’s different from Chi San. If the man she met in the past was him, he wouldn’t let her suffer so much. In the morning, Qin Fang reveals to Si Teng he knows everything: she didn’t want to kill Chi San but she needed Chi San’s powers to lift the poison to save Wa Fang; she doesn’t want to poison Xuan Men but she wants them to help her find her sister to solve their past.

Yan Fu Rui takes Wa Fang to thank Si Teng. By thanking her, Wa Fang will be hers and uncle’s (Qin Fang) son. It’s completely one-sided.

Elsewhere, we get a scene of Jia family. That lady who is looking for the Nine-Eye-Sky-Pearl is a Jia descendant. In her memory, her grandfather received a letter from Bai Ying to inform him the curse on their family is lifted. But is it lifted? She has the marking of Teng Sha on her inner wrist. If others try to kill her, vines show up to protect her. She is now looking for someone with the last name Qin.

More confusing stuff: Shan Zhi Gao is struggling with something within himself and freaks out at water. There’s a memory of him in water watching Chen Wan (Qin Fang’s ex) committing suicide(?). Did he kill Chen Wan? Hmm. Anyway, the Jia Lady and Minion tie up Shan Zhi Gao to locate Qin Fang.

Shen Yin Deng (Chi San)’s husband (Yang Po) reads her will which details she might have another chance at life if he finds Qin Fang. What a popular guy. Yang Po catches Qin Fang and hits him to make him faint.

[Ep14] Yang Po makes Qin Fang eat a moving mushroom. Ew. Each men get half of it. That mushroom allows Yang Po to know all of Qin Fang’s knowledge. He happily runs away knowing how to save Shen Yin Deng. That leaves Qin Fang at the mercy of Jia Lady but hold your horses, Si Teng gets to Qin Fang first. Jia Lady is hiding in the corner. Once she spots Si Teng, she gasps, It's "Miss Bai Ying". Fretting, she stealthily leaves with her Minion.

Yang Bo believes his blood will revive Shen Yin Deng just like Qin Fang revived Si Teng and so Yang Po dies for Shen Yin Deng but it was a futile death. Si Teng now believes it isn't human blood that can revive their kind but it's Qin Fang's blood that is special.
Qin Fang and Si Teng head back to his city. Qin Fang won't stop yapping. Si Teng wants Qin Fang to find her a "Will You Shut Up Curse". He finds her the exact music with that title and shares the music with her. At least she gets him to shut up that way, lolQin Fang visits Shan Zhi Gao in the hospital (he was previously tied up in his home). Before they leave, Shan Zhi Gao sees Si Teng and freaks out. He knows her.

Qin Fang takes Si Teng to his mansion that he shares with Shan Zhi Gao. They find a hidden room, inside is a shrine for Chen Wan. Si Teng can take memories from objects and shares it with Qin Fang. Turns out it was Shan Zhi Gao who accidentally pushed Chen Wan into the water that led to her death. Shan Zhi Gao was having an attack of some sort that prevented him from saving her which I'm not too sure if Qin Fang noticed

Shan Zhi Gao denies Qin Fang's accusation. Shan Zhi Gao attempts to gaslight Qin Fang for believing a strange woman instead of him.

[Ep15] Si Teng gave a mission to Yan Fu Rui: to investigate every single thing about Qin Fang. Yan Fu Rui makes a serendipitous finding that someone else was investigating into Qin family as well. Of note, Yan Fu Rui learns Qin family knew of a Bai Ying.
Si Teng faints and Qin Fang worries if she’ll die. She thinks she’ll need to sleep for about two days. She’s having problems absorbing Chi San’s powers. Qin Fang bends over to kiss her. She stops him with a light touch of her fingers to his lips. The kiss worked last time, but this time it’s different. These scenes are pretty ~~

After Si Teng wakes up, her legs have turned to vines. She thinks she needs about a century to recover. Qin Fang's eyes are red and teary. He asks her if it’s okay he plants her in his backyard. He promises to water her every day. Si Teng bursts out laughing. She was lying. She just needs a day or two but first she needs to be “wrapped”. Qin Fang does the next logical thing and digs his hands under her waist, “Like this?” No silly. She taps his forehead to show him the vision of what she needs to be wrapped around with: vines. Duh.

After Si Teng enters into her tree form, Jia Lady and Minion are here. Qin Fang is beaten up but after he retaliates, he finds that his strength has increased. Still it’s not enough against a hammer. As the Minion is punching him, Qin Fang notices vines coming to help him but they stop when Jia Lady speaks about taking Qin Fang to Dan Na. The vines completely retreat. Qin Fang senses that Si Teng wants to go to Dan Na. Thus, Qin Fang stops resisting and lets the Minion punch him out. The loyalty of our slave for his master

Shan Zhi Gao returns home and finds the mass of vines. He summons his powers looking like he’s going to destroy the vines but Yan Fu Rui appears. He’s rather curious about Yan Fu Rui and offers him money to start a business. Then he pats his head and calls him "Ah Fu". Ouuuu Shan Zhi Gao is Qiu Shan!

Everyone, we’re going back to Dan Na. Si Teng is awake and gets Yan Fu Rui to buy her tickets. Plane tickets are too expensive for our penniless Yan Fu Rui so he asks her if they can get there another way. The other way: on a crowded train clamped by two ladies double her size. Si Teng, welcome to the real average world. Not everyone is a Qin Fang. Also, I guess Qin Fang isn’t far enough from her for him to mutate?

The landscape scenes aren't useful at all and sometimes just too much but they certainly are beautiful.

[Ep16] Si Teng is back in the same motel she was when she first met Qin Fang. You know, the one she set fire too. The owner remembers her and gossips with Yan Fu Rui that his master (Si Teng) is much gentler from before. Yan Fu Rui is like, "If she’s not gentle then there’s no gentle person in this world." Hahaha

Si Teng regrets not putting a Teng Sha on Qin Fang. Although Teng Sha can kill but that’s only if she wants to. More importantly, it’ll allow her to know where he is. No worries, Qin Fang smartly leaves hints for Si Teng to find him.

Other stuff that I'm too lazy to link:
→ Si Teng finds that there’s another person/alien who has planted a Teng Sha in this area.
→ Then when Si Teng arrives at Jia House, she finds the picture of herself or technically Bai Ying.
→ Jia Lady’s purpose is to find the buried Si Teng to revive her husband. She didn’t know Si Teng was already revived. But she does know that as long as she has Qin Fang with her, she can find Si Teng.
→ Shan Zhi Gao is in the area.

Jia Lady and Si Teng finally meet but the former calls the latter “Bai Ying”. Our Si Teng gracefully takes her seat and calmly asks if it was this Minion who hit Qin Fang. Qin Fang belongs to her, how dare this Minion hit him. With one blow, Si Teng sends the Minion flying and bleeding all over.

While the girls talk, Yan Fu Rui tends to Qin Fang’s wounds. Yan Fu Rui sheepishly asks to be reimbursed for his expenses on Si Teng, heh

[Ep17] Si Teng reminds Qin Fang she’s only half an alien. Her other half is Bai Ying – Shan Zhi Gao is eavesdropping on everything! – neither of them are truly Si Teng. SiTeng2’s (Bai Ying) desire to marry Shao Yan Kuan grew so enormous, she split with SiTeng1 and hence there are two SiTengs. This split, as Si Teng describes, is like a terminal disease. Like humans, they’ll age, and only have a few decades to live. Ah, so being human is a terminal disease. Well, in one way, yes. The cure is to unify the two SiTengs but Bai Ying saw SiTeng1 as an obstacle to her love life so she killed SiTeng1 (who is our current Si Teng).

Qin Fang wonders how Bai Ying could have killed Si Teng. Logically, shouldn’t Si Teng be more powerful? She’s the original. Yan Fu Rui is like let’s move on; it’s the same logic as how some people are born ugly and some are born beautiful. I laughed. He’s qualified to say that among Jing Tian and Zhang Bin Bin, xD.

Jia Lady tells her Minion the rest of the story. After Bai Ying killed Si Teng, Bai Ying ordered Jia San (Jia Lady’s grandfather) to take Si Teng to Dan Na. Bai Ying also sent him a portrait of herself with a letter to tell him of his next mission. For his next generation to come, a Jia descendant is to bring a man by the surname of Qin to Dan Na. This mission falls on Jia Lady and that is why she is marked with Teng Sha. Also, about that, Nine-Eye-Sky-Pearl, she wanted it to help her conceive. So, with the Teng Sha, she can’t conceive? Is it because she’ll die anyways so she doesn’t want to conceive? Jia Lady ends her story by forcing the Minion to swallow the Teng Sha that Si Teng gave her. Jia Lady wants him to suffer for the rest of his life in prison for killing her husband (and all the other people he killed).

Back to Si Teng. It’s been decades between the Jia and Qin promise but Bai Ying kept her plan foolhardy by planting Teng Sha in Jia family. They have to follow the promise or their lives will be at risk. The next question: Why must it be Qin Family? Si Teng looks pensively at Qin Feng. She knows something but she’s not saying it. I want to know too~~

More questions! Why resurrect Si Teng first? Where is Bai Ying’s corpse?

Shan Zhi Gao is still listening in on everything. He uses his powers to lure out Si Teng once she’s alone. In his hand is a glowing blue pearl. It’s the Nine-Eye-Sky-Pearl! During that fight, although Si Teng didn’t lose in supernatural combat, she faints over after a suspicious red aura escapes from her.
Fortunately, Qin Fang finds Si Teng but she’s still unconscious. Qin Fang bites his lips until he’s bleeding and kisses her. That’s the trick. She wakes up and weakly pushes him off saying he can’t help her.

Back to Shan Zhi Gao. He’s recovering from the combat. He is Qiu Shan! He ate a pill that changed him to an alien, the very same pill he gave to Si Teng to change/create her. His purpose: he created Si Teng and he will destroy Si Teng. From somewhere, he digs up a mummy and finds a similar looking like pill (I honestly have no clue) and tries to activate it with his powers but it’s not working. The pill crushes.
[Ep18] Qin Fang tends to Si Teng for the night. When she wakes up, her body is still cold. He brings her a basin of hot water to wash her feet. Si Teng is all flustered when he touches her. A flower suddenly grows on her finger. Aw. That’s so cute! Literally, her heart is blossoming with love.

Si Teng lifts Jia Lady’s Teng Sha and tells her to forget Bai Ying. When Jia Lady is gone, Qin Fang asks Si Teng if she truly wants to unite with Bai Ying when she's so cruel.

Our crew is departing Dan Na. Yang Fu Rui opens the car door for our lady Si Teng to sit in the back but she opens the door to the passenger seat to sit next to Qin Fang instead. She keeps her eyes forward not realizing the rules of cars. Qin Fang bends over to snap the seatbelt on for her. Swoon~ Where’s our flower! Meanwhile our thirdwheeler, Yang Fu Rui, snaps his own in the back.

Qin Fang is waiting for the luggage at the airport. Si Teng’s eyes are mesmerized by Qin Fang. She doesn't know it but Yang Ru Fui sees it (I hope he understands it, though). Her eyes turn cold wne girls flirt with Qin Fang. Upset, Si Teng calls out to him to show the girls who owns this beautiful male servant. Qin Fang doesn't know Si Teng just claimed him.

Si Teng meets Wang Qian Kun’s master. She wants to know where Bai Ying’s corpse is after Qiu Shan, Li Zheng Yuan and Huang Yu killed her. The master was just a kid back then but recalls that when they were escorting Bai Ying, her corpse disappeared. The city went into chaos when bombs dropped from nowhere. Only a strand of Bai Ying’s hair remained. Qiu Shan was confident that would be the end to Si Teng. There’s no one related to her by blood anymore. They even killed her son.

Si Teng has more questions. Why is it only Qin Fang’s blood that can work? The master doesn’t know but will look into it. She then asks what does it mean for her to bloom white flowers. The master laughs and doesn’t know either. It's love!

Qin Fang has a dream. It's a romantic one. Si Teng appears and is in a beautiful white dress.

Qin Fang: Si Teng, I finally found you.

But Si Teng goes on to explain that every life on this earth has meaning. But what about her kind? What is their purpose?

Qin Fang takes her hand: Si Teng. Your mere existence is meaningful.
Si Teng: But humans and aliens are not possible.
Si Teng takes her hand away and disappears.

Qin Fang’s dream abruptly ends. He quickly grabs her for a hug to stop her from leaving but instead it's Wang Qian Kun he's hugging. Wang Qian Kun was trying to extract Qin Fang's blood to examine it (because Si Teng wanted to know about his blood). That sudden movement makes Wang Qian Kun jump and he stabs the needle to his own thigh. Yang Fu Rui has a frozen horrified expression as he stares at his buddy's thigh.

Si Teng asks Qing Fang to go for a walk. She admires the fish in the pond. She wonders if they're happy because they can be with their own kind. Someone tell me what a happy fish looks like. Qin Fang corrects her of what it means to be of the same kind: to have the same direction in life, the same goals in life. Si Teng asks about that lone fish: is that fish not the same species, the same kind? Qin Fang explains it merely has it’s own path and has yet to find a partner.

Qin Fang: Fortunately, we’re not like that.
Si Teng looks over at him who’s been staring at her this entire time.

Their romantic moment has an audience: Wang Qian Kun and Yang Fu Rui. They’re looking for an opportunity to extract his blood. Yang Fu Rui says they can’t do it in daylight. Thus, a movie theatre it is. It’s double date! Qin Fang and Si Teng, and Yan Fu Rui and Wang Qian Kun. They're watching Avatar. Wang Qian Kun sighs whether the love between a human and an avatar will really work out. Qin Fang glances at Si Teng. He can't take it anymore and pulls her out of the theatre.

Qin Fang: I want to tell you I can. No matter if it’s a human, an alien, an avatar, as long as it’s you, I can.
Si Teng: Can what?
Qin Fang: This whole time, you’re weren't alone. I can (continue to) be with you. The things I promised you before, I can still do them all. This is my promise to you but I don’t want you to unify with Bai Ying. I don’t want you to turn into a different you. The one I like is the one right in front of me.
Si Teng: What did you say?
Qin Fang: I hope that you and I can be one. Si Teng, I like you.
Oh my~~ flowers are blossoming everywhere! Not just on her body but on anything living in her vicinity

However, before she replies him, she tells him he might just be Bai Ying’s descendant. Omg....he’s her great great nephew???? Also this will make Qin Fang a hybrid human-alien – if he is Bai Ying’s descendant.

[Ep19] Back then it was Bai Ying (Mrs. Shao at that time) who helped Qin Fang’s family overcome their financial crisis. That way Qin Fang’s great grandfather will forever be grateful, so grateful that he’ll take care of her child. Wait! Hold up! How did we get to that point in the story? Qin Fang is very confused. Si Teng continues her explanation. Bai Ying knew Qiu Shan was still after her. Thus, Bai Ying had plans to give her child to Qin Great Grandfather. Thus, Bai Ying frequently visited Qin Family disguising as a doctor. Si Teng knows Bai Ying is no doctor. She used her powers to make the great grandmother infertile. That way, when Bai Ying gives them her son, they’d cherish him. This son is thus Qin Fang’s grandfather.

Also it was Qin Family who stole Bai Ying’s corpse from Qiu Shan. Those bombs were no accident. If Jia family was used to guard Si Teng then Qing family was used to guard Bai Ying.

Qin Fang: Why are you telling me all this? I don’t care about whether you’re human or not as long as you’re Si Teng. But now you’re telling me I’m Bai Ying’s descendant?

Qin Fang leaves in tears of anger.

Si Teng: So I don’t care, but you as a human, you still care in the end.
Qin Fang, she wanted to tell you she doesn’t care! But then again... isn’t Qin Fang her great great nephew? Or is there no such thing as incest in her kind?

Qin Fang worries he’s related to Si Teng. He makes Wang Qin Kuan (our scientist) test his blood to verify. Wang Qin Kuan: Perfect! Until this potential incest thing is cleared, Qin Fang refuses to talk to Si Teng. Yan Fu Rui is caught in the middle.

Si Teng doesn’t get Qin Fang's misery. They still disagree on her unifying with Bai Ying. When they’re off the plane, she refuses to live with him. At Qin Fang’s home sans Qin Fang, Yan Fu Rui won’t stop yapping about Qin Fang. Si Teng orders him to go find Bai Ying in the middle of the night.

Yan Fu Rui mutters under his breath: You just think I’m annoying, ordering me to find a corpse at night.

Si Teng smirks. Bingo

The next day, Yan Fu Rui suggests to Si Teng that together with Qin Fang, “they can...” Si Teng’s shouts “can!”. Before Yan Fu Rui can finish his sentence, she’s storms off with Yan Fu Rui’s phone. Lol. She thought of Qin Fang’s “can”

Si Teng angrily taps at the phone but drops it in frustration. She accidentally video calls Qin Fang. Oh so she was looking for Qin Fang’s contact info. Qin Fang picks up the call and finds a beautiful Si Teng daydreaming in her chair. Qin Fang is so in love he just silently stares at her. Great grandaunt ~ ~

Yan Fu Rui thinks he’s figured out where Bai Ying’s corpse is. Si Teng is amused and asks him what to do now. Dig! But dig with what! Si Teng replies, “Dig with your brain, since there’s already so many holes.” Pft.

[Ep20] Qin Fang is here to drop off clothes for Si Teng. He really wants to enter the house to see her but he restrains himself. Meanwhile, Si Teng was expecting to see him and brushes her hair so that it’s more perfect than perfect but to her disappointment only Yan Fu Rui enters the door.

Qin Fang leaves in his car but the farther he drives, the angrier he gets. He pulls aside and runs the rest of the way back home. This home is so pretty!! Anyway, I think he’s running instead of driving because he has so much pent up anger that he needs to physically release them before meeting Si Teng. He hollers for Si Teng to come out. Unimpressed, Si Teng is like you better have something worthy to say to make up for your horrible attitudeIt's so Si Teng. Training him to speak in the proper manner xD

Qin Fang begins his spiel: why did the gods choose Bai Ying to live over Si Teng? Because of her desire to live. Look at how meticulous she was at giving herself a chance to live. Of course the gods will choose Bai Ying. Following that logic, once Bai Ying is revived, then she will have no intention of sharing a body with Si Teng; she'll want to take over Si Teng completely. Qin Fang continues his spiel: it’s not that he couldn’t accept he is Bai Ying’s descendant that he was angry – he can’t fathom that he’s related to Si Teng. To make it worse, if Si Teng is going to merge with Bai Ying then she’d really be his great grandmother. Qin Fang couldn’t finish that sentence. Si Teng remains silent, answering nothing. All she tells him is “Goodbye.” Is Si Teng going to take his words to heart? To not fuse with Bai Ying?

Following that scene, Si Teng and Yan Fu Rui are off to look for Bai Ying’s corpse. Si Teng faints from excessive use of her powers to search for Bai Ying. Yan Fu Rui piggybacks her but then drops all his “digging” equipment. A security guard sees all the “weapons” and detains him. Meanwhile Qin Fang is at a club drinking and complaining to girls that he’s rich and handsome, why should he "limit himself to one option?" He uses the idiom “hang himself onto one tree.” The literal meaning makes me laugh. Si Teng is actually a tree. LOL. Yan Fu Rui rings up Qin Fang for help, and so our rich and handsome Qin Fang is back to hanging onto his one tree.
With his good looks, Qin Fang talks the security guard out of thinking Yan Fu Rui is some kidnapper "even though he may look like one". LOL. Poor Yan Fu Rui is the butt of their ugly jokes. Yan Fu Rui, just do your thing and be cute xD.  They take the boat back to the city and Qin Fang is keeping Si Teng warm in his arms. Our lonely lightbulb, Yan Fu Rui gives himself a pat on his own arm. Hahaha

Qin Fang is at it again at trying to persuade Si Teng. He offers to give Si Teng blood for the rest of her life to let her live. However, for Si Teng to depend on him to live is unfathomable. Si Teng is too proud of a tree to have Qin Fang sacrifice his blood for her

From as far as our boys can see, the season has suddenly changed to autumn. Leaves are falling. Is it because of Si Teng who is unconscious? But Qin Fang thinks it's weird. Although Si Teng is having problems absorbing Chi San's powers, turning every single greenery to fall colours seem to be beyond Si Teng's powers. The problem aside, this scenery is breathtaking

The episode ends off with Qin Fang finding the real location of Bai Ying's corpse.

Did I say the beautiful sceneries were useless to the story? Drama, I'm so sorry. I was out of my mind.

[Ep21] Si Teng wakes up! Everything is green again. Qin Fang is sleeping and he's having a nightmare. She taps his forehead right where his eyebrows are knotted and looks into his dream. It’s him saving her in the water. Qin Fang wakes up and notices the green is back. He know it was Si Teng who saved her kind. She was always kind like that.

The dream is a telling one. Qin Fang thinks his great grandfather threw Bai Ying's corpse in the water. Si Teng agrees. But there’s more. Bai Ying would never allow someone to know exactly where her corpse is. She must have prepped the water........ (dots mean I don't understand). They’ll need to investigate more into it. Qin Fang promises to help her because that was part of their agreement despite still being against her merging with Bai Ying.

What happened in the water back in 1946: Great Grandfather Qin hired divers to secure Si Teng deep under the sea but all the people who were involved died. Bai Ying’s corpse sprouted branches and strangled them to death in the water. Only Great Grandfather Qin survived. Bai Ying didn’t need him dead because he doesn’t know her exact location.

Si Teng swims the entire night to find Bai Ying. In the morning, like a goddess, she emerges from the sea. She’s found Bai Ying but she didn’t bring the corpse back.

Si Teng spent an entire night contemplating about Qin Fang's words. When Qin Fang finds her, she's alone on a bridge in this beautiful place. He asks her what are her life goals. To be herself again? He reminds her that she has never been herself. At first she was Qiu Shan’s puppet. When she escaped from Qiu Shan, she was living the way Bai Ying wanted. Qin Fang loves her and wants her to truly be herself. Si Teng isn’t giving him a response.

We’re back with Yan Fu Rui. Somewhere from afar, he hears a splash. Moments later, Si Teng returns alone and asks if Qin Fang knows how to swim. The splash was Qin Fang falling into the water (so Si Teng pushed him in there?? xD) but even if he knows how to swim, he’s no match against living wines that have him entrapped. It's Bai Ying.

Oh yes, and Qiu Shan (not Shao Zhi Gao) is in the area watching this whole thing..

Si Teng flies in to save Qin Fang. Her branches wrap Si Feng around a pillar to keep him safe from the water. Meanwhile Si Teng is engaged in an underwater duel with another being just like her. Above the water, Qin Fang instructs a cowardly Yan Fu Rui to operate the small motor boat so that he can help Qin Fang down. Yan Fu Rui is struggling so much, he’s the one screaming at the top of his lungs when he’s not the one wrapped with a vine or fighting underwater.
When Yan Fu Rui just about crashes the boat right onto the pillar Qin Fang is stuck to and saves Qin Fang, a red being flies onto the bridge. Is that the unification of Si Teng and Bai Ying? She walk towards the boys. Without talking to either of them, she walks right by them and pushes Qin Fang out of the way.
Qin Fang is close to tears that his Si Teng is gone. Outburst Si Teng from the water. Qin Fang is so relieved he runs to hug her. I know Si Teng is flustered but she’s got no time for this. She needs to find Bai Ying first.

However, Si Teng comes across Qiu Shan first. The two people who ruined Si Teng’s life are all back to haunt her.  Qiu Shan is back in his own body and he’s just as powerful (or perhaps more powerful?). They fight in the middle of the street. trying to refrain themselves from making a scene but I don’t get how they’re not making a scene. A long haired (beautiful) girl is running down a street at full speed with a huge shawl. A white haired old man is running down the other street at full speed with a huge shawl. She's got green stuff emitting from her hand and he's got a sword on his back. Suddenly, a red aura (Bai Ying) causes a car accident and creates a commotion. The two stop fighting. Qiu Shan retreats.

Si Teng is back home. Qin Fang wraps her tightly in his arm. Si Teng wanted to return the embrace but restrains herself. Yan Fu Rui interrupts. He’s hysterical about Bai Ying running away. He doesn’t get how she has this much power upon awakening. Si Teng admits to giving half her powers to her. Why?

[Ep22] Qin Fang has another weird dream. He's at a Beijing opera and there's Si Teng who tells him, "Qin Fang, let's end it here." Yan Fu Rui had a dream of Si Teng too. In the dream she tells him to not go back to his hometown but stay in Yuhan where there's Qin Fang too. At the end of his dream, she tells him "Let's end it here, Yan Fu Rui." These dreams were prophetic ones. Si Teng has left them.

Qin Fang deduces where Si Teng might have gone to find Bai Ying. Bai Ying might be in the body of the woman who was in the car accident. So, Bai Ying needs a host? The boys begin their search for the family who was in the accident but Yan Fu Rui is acting weird. He confesses he never actually "dreamed" of Si Teng. He was told by Si Teng to stay away and stay safe and lie to Qin Fang. But now that Qin Fang has managed to precisely predict Si Teng's every action, she can't hide from him anymore.
Si Teng summons Qin Fang to speak with him privately. It's him who confronts her. He knows she changed her mind about uniting with Bai Ying but she didn't want to pull them in danger so she distanced herself. He won't give her a chance to talk. He intends to stay. Then he immediately calls for Yan Fu Rui. The talk is over. Our loyal puppy runs to them and slips himself between  our lovers – soon to be lovers – to protect Qin Fang from Si Teng's wrath. Nah, dude, it was the other way around. But, still, so cute of Yan Fu Rui

Qin Fang and Si Teng think Bai Ying is using the mother as a host but I think it's actually the daughter, that little girl! When Yan Fu Rui is alone, the girl asks him to play with her. Uh oh. But hey, Qiu Shan is in the area! Yan Fu Rui sees him first.

When Si Teng figures out Bai Ying is in the little girl, it's too late, Bai Ying already moved hosts. They think Bai Ying has Yan Fu Rui, not knowing he's with his master. Yan Fu Rui had held back his master from capturing Si Teng. Aw, he's loyal to her. The master tells Yan Fu Rui how he had wanted to attack Si Teng once she reunited with Bai Ying but he didn't think Si Teng would refuse Bai Ying.

Wait, so how come Bai Ying doesn't look like Si Teng?

Bai Jin is in the city. Bai Ying takes an interest in him when he spoke of Si Teng. Both Bai? Hmmm. He's drunk talking to a tree and calls it Si Teng. Heh. Bai Ying approaches him by pretending to be a brainless fan of his. I hate this character's dubbing and her girly act. Did Jing Tian act Bai Ying like that?

Back to Si Teng and Qin Fang. They still think Yan Fu Rui is with Bai Ying. Si Teng insists they can't show they care about Yan Fu Rui so they go watch a movie – a 3D movie . On the screen, a slitter cutter flies at the audience. Instinctively, and completely naive to 3D technology, Si Teng attacks with her vine. She ends up attacking someone else's innocent popcorn. Si Teng remains motionless in her upright posture. It's Qin Fang who's apologizing. The number one rule of Si Teng: don't show you care, and most importantly, don't show you're embarrassed. Hahahaha

Qin Fang makes Si Teng steak kabobs. She likes it ~ until he teases her that it's better than the popcorn she blasted. They're currently watching another movie at home. The male lead in the movie is saving a drowning girl by kissing her to give her oxygen. Si Teng scoffs. She has a thousand ways to save someone, "Why would I use that idiotic method?" Qin Fang corrects her that this is romantic.

Si Teng: I get it!
Getting it, Si Teng gets up and kisses him to prove it. I love her!

[Ep23] Qin Fang awakens but doesn’t remember much about the previous night. He timidly smiles as he touches his lips. When Si Teng confirms she did kiss him, he finds it unbelievable. He thought it was a dream. Si Teng probes, “You’ve dreamed about it  before?” No, no, no. He doesn’t dare to. Serenely, Si Teng permits him to dream of that from now on. :D Qin Fang will try his best! Oh and Si Teng is watching another movie: Titanic. She likes it contrary to Qin Fang’s expectations. Si Teng likes romances now~

Yan Fu Rui is back safe and sound. Si Teng is curious where he disappeared to. He lies that he was looking for Bai Jin.

When Bai Jin wakes up, he's hanging from a tower. Bai Ying threatens him to tell her everything about Si Teng. I’m not quite sure if Bai Ying is sane because she hallucinates Bai Jin as Shao Yan Kuan and almost whips him to death for betraying her.

Both Si Teng and Qin Fang are aware Yan Fu Rui is lying. However, Qin Fang assures Si Teng that Yan Fu Rui wouldn’t betray her like those other humans (Qiu Shan and Shao Yan Kuan).

Qiu Shan’s past. He was betrayed by a demon/alien, Chang Sheng. She seduced him and at her hands, his entire clan died. Thus Qiu Shan’s goal in life is to destroy every demon, especially the one he created.

Si Teng follows Yan Fu Rui to find Qiu Shan. She asks Qiu Shan if he ever cared about her (like a father), even for a tiny bit. He did not. Oh hey, doesn't this make Yan Fu Rui and Si Teng sort of like siblings? Since Qiu Shan "raised" both of them. With her vines at his neck, she reminds him of all the times he abused her. Does she kill him? No. She lets him go. Soooo, that's the end to their relationship?

Hand in hand, Qin Fang takes Si Teng for a walk to cheer her up (over Qiu Shan). Si Teng asks him if he doesn’t mind "it" anymore. The incest thing. Qin Fang can even joke about it! His only concern is this: when he goes to visit his father’s grave, should he introduce Si Teng as his girlfriend or as his father’s grandmother? My mouth is in this awkward shape where I don't know if I should laugh or not.

As Si Teng and Qin Fang enjoy their merry time, Bai Ying is staring daggers at Si Teng. It's not fair. How come Si Teng and be in love but Bai Ying can’t? The sisters have switched roles now. It's Si Teng's turn to be in love

Bai Ying changes her appearance to Si Teng’s to fool Qin Fang but he isn’t fooled for long. However, it’s too late. He’s at her mercy and is now barely hanging on a bridge. Poor Qin Fang is always suspended at tall places for Si Teng when he’s got a fear of height.

[Ep24Other than the fact that Bai Ying isn’t very Si-Teng-like, Qin Fang was able to see through the disguise rather quickly because he still has Si Teng’s hair!

Bai Ying has words to deliver via Qin Fang to Si Teng: uniting is a must. Then she lets Qin Fang fall. I'm hoping the balloons helped Qin Fang slow down that plunge. When Si Teng finds him, he’s already unconscious. Blood oozes from his head.

Qin Fang’s condition is severe. The doctor says he’s barely hanging onto his life; it's like he has some last words for someone. Si Teng tries to use her powers to revive him but something inside Qin Fang is resisting her. She puts their foreheads together to look inside him. Si Teng sees a big tree within him. Omg. Qin Fang was/is a tree! They're the same species! I don't quite know if little Si Teng came out of that tree or he was protecting her as the tree. In his tree form (Qingtian Tree), he watched Si Teng grow up as a child and turned into human for her. Therefore, he’s not Bai Ying’s descendant. If Si Teng had these powers, she should have used them earlier instead of scaring us with incest.

Bai Ying has messed with the wrong man. Previously, Si Teng wasn’t determined, but now she is resolute on killing Bai Ying. Also, Si Teng believes Qin Fang is resisting her powers because he wants her to save it for herself to fight against Bai Ying.

Si Teng invites Wang Qian Kun and his master over. She wants to know how Qiu Shan was always able to locate “Si Teng” (she means Bai Ying). A demon-compass exists. The master is off to find that compass while Wang Qian Kun is given another mission: to dress up as Si Teng. Wang Qian Kun will be the decoy to fool Bai Ying.

Si Teng is at Qin Fang’s bedside caring for him (e.g. like shaving him). Our master is caring for her servant! She shares her deepest secret to an unconscious Qin Fang: just like Bai Ying, she wants to be human for him.

Next, Si Teng disappears from home. She leaves an ambiguous eye mark on the door.

[Ep25] Yan Fu Rui freaks out when he discovers only he can see Wang Qian Kun as Si Teng. So how is this plan going to fool Bai Ying...? Right... I also wonder how Wang Qian Kun won’t smell wearing the same dress for days.

The master comes back with the compass before Si Teng comes back. But he’s unconscious. Yan Fu Rui plays with the compass and notices it pointing to Qin Fang and then to the master. Is the compass malfunctioning or is Bai Ying disguising as the master?

Also, Qiu Shan was the one who killed Chang Sheng. She had another name: "Du Huo”. It means to live alone. I guess that’s not true anymore for her. It ends up being true for Qiu Shan who killed her.

[Ep26] The master sees Wang Qian Kun as Si Teng – not. The master is actually Bai Ying and she threatens the boys she'll kill Qin Fang if Si Teng doesn’t appear. Suddenly, Qin Fang wakes up! Oh, but it’s not Qin Fang. Si Teng disguised herself as Qin Fang the whole time and had hid the real Qin Fang in the bathtub. Dressing up Wang Qian Kun was only to fool Yan Fu Rui that he had protection against Bai Ying (when in fact he had nothing). Si Teng was waiting for Bai Ying to appear so that she can use Bai Ying's powers to awaken Qin Fang. (The ambiguous eye was used to fool everyone that Si Teng was Qin Fang)

What happened to Bai Ying in those seven years for her love to change to bitter hate? Si Teng touches her forehead to see her past. Shao Yan Kuan cheated on her and married another wife. I also believe that Shao Yan Kuan fell out of love with Bai Ying because she was no longer Si Teng. Thus, Bai Ying killed his new wife. She also took on a new face (the Bai Ying face we currently know of). This new face was to cut off her relationship with Si Teng. She wanted to disassociate herself from Si Teng because she was ashamed of herself for believing in this man’s love over Si Teng. But she’s officially insane and is still in love with Shao Yan Kuan. She wants to bear his child to keep his love. Shao Yan Kuan only slept with her because she reminded him she’s still Si Teng in essence – nope, wrong, totally wrong – Shao Yan Kuan slept with her because Qiu Shan gave him a deal: make her pregnant and he'll give him money. Qiu Shan wanted her pregnant because that will make her weak, especially when she’s in labour, making it the perfect opportunity to kill her. Bai Ying is irrevocably out of love.

Also, Bai Ying killed Qin Fang’s real great-great-great-grandfather to abduct their child (= Qin Fang’s great-great grandfather) as her own to give to Qin Family. She knew the blood of Qingtian Tree can awaken Si Teng. Then Bai Ying pretended to die according to Qiu Shan’s plan all to come back alive seventy years later when Xuanmen is no longer relevant.

Oh and Bai Ying killed her own fetus ..... or induced her own pregnancy...  I’m not sure what that green thing she did to her belly was but one thing I’m sure of is she let her fetus die regardless.

[Ep27] When Si Teng drops her guard because of her pity for Bai Ying, she's attacked by Bai Ying. Although Bai Ying hates the men in her life, the person she hates the most is Si Teng. More like jealous. Bai Ying used "Yaoshui" (a type of water) to attack her which makes Si Teng bleed profusely. Si Teng is dying but to die next to Qin Fang, she has no regrets. Bai Ying disbelievingly stares at the true love unfold before her eyes. This is the love she never had.

Qiu Shan to the rescue! His umbrella is actually a gun or a lightening rod that destroys Bai Ying. Well almost destroys because Qin Fang suddenly wakes up and gains supernatural powers to protect Bai Ying. His Qiantian Tree powers have awakened. While the men are arguing, Bai Ying flees with an unconscious Si Teng. Qin Fang and Yan Fu Rui stop Qiu Shan from chasing the girls because he’ll kill them. Oh right, Qiu Shan wants to kill both of the girls, not just Bai Ying. I thought he was softening up to Si Teng.
Uniting is out of the question now that Si Teng is dying but she convinces Bai Ying to work together to fight against Qiu Shan. During the fight, Si Teng blocks a blow for Bai Ying. Will one full Si Teng be enough to win over Qiu Shan (who’s currently half-demon)? They're struggling. How come it was so easy for Si Teng to beat Qiu Shan last time? Because he was sick? Then how come he’s so strong now?

It’s a tie. Both sides lose. Qiu Shan and Bai Ying disappear into ashes as they dream about the person they loved the most. But what about Si Teng!
She’s still awake! She reaches out for Qin Fang but before he catches up to her, she disappears into petals. OMG. Petals, form Si Teng again!!

[Ep28] Qin Fang is alone in this world now – well there’s also Yan Fu Rui but Qin Fang tells him he can go back home. Qin Fang assures him he won’t be lonely, after all, he has his "dream" he still wants to accomplish. Remember back in Ep2 he had a conversation with Si Teng that his dream was to be human again. He has a new dream now: to see Si Teng again.

Qin Feng takes Si Teng's "teng" (vine/rattan) and the compass to the place Si Teng died. He saves some soil from himself. As he leaves the forest, something buds from the ground. That’s Si Teng! Did Qin Fang plant something? Because it just looked like he took the soil

Yan Fu Rui also won’t be lonely. He’s going back home with the breakfast bun girl.

Five years later

Yan Fu Rui is hospitalized after a head injury (he's mostly okay). Qin Fang visits him. Yan Fu Rui asks if he’s found Si Teng. Nope. But he hasn’t given up searching for her even if he doesn’t know if she can come back.

Then we get scenes of Xi Xi who’s in kindergarten. She’s bossy and rebellious. Adults mean nothing to her. Hmmm. She was adopted. A young couple found her in a forest. Si Teng! The adoptive mother has a daughter already. She’s Yi Ru who’s 20 years old but she ran away from home. Qin Fang had saved Yi Ru. Previously, she was suicidal; now that she’s better, Qin Fang wants her to return to her mother.

After the adoptive mother slaps Xi Xi for misbehaving, Xi Xi runs away from home. Qin Fang finds her. With one look, he recognizes her. She’s the little Si Teng. First, Qin Fang fell in love with a tree, then had to deal with potential incest, and now he’s going to be a loli. xD... Is this Drama's way of proving how his love has no boundaries?

[Ep29] Xi Xi spends Qin Fang’s money like it’s hers. So Si Teng. She’s buying and eating a lot of food because she wants to grow up faster. So that she can physically be Si Teng! When Qin Fang begins to apply medication to her reddened face, she flinches at the pain. Yi Ru thinks she’ll be gentler but Xi Xi won’t even let her touch her. Yi Ru asks for her name, trying to befriend her. Xi Xi’s full name is Xi Zhu. From that name, Yi Ru knows that Xi Xi is her mother’s newly adopted daughter. When Yi Ru’s gone, Xi Xi interrogates Qin Fang for his relationship with Yi Ru. Lol, our little girl is jealous? Qin Fang wants her to at least call him “uncle” since he helped her but our Xi Xi deflects the request with a yawn. Si Teng doesn’t want to call him uncle

Xi Xi had wanted to go to the orphanage but now that Qin Fang is here, she asks, “Qin Fang, can I follow you? Wherever you go, I’ll go too.” Qin Fang calls her silly and lets her sleep. But did Qin Fang ever reveal his name? How did she know his name? Yi Ru thinks she may have called his name in passing. Nah, Xi Xi is Si Teng.

The next morning, Xi Xi is back home. She calls Qin Fang a big liar because she wanted to leave with him. Then she finds a photo album of “Xi Zhu” which are pictures of Yi Ru. She tells Mom she saw Yi Ru but won’t tell her where. Mom is furious and tightly grabs onto her arms to ask for more but Xi Xi is being a brat and keeps mum. Then Xi Xi shows up at school crying and telling her teachers she’s got bruises all over her body. Now the teachers believe Xi Xi is abused by her mother.

That night Qin Fang opens up the compass. It finally turns on and it points east.

Xi Xi is with her homeroom teacher tonight. However, her mother is like a ghost and haunts her all the way to the teacher’s home. The teacher faints at the sight of a ghostly Mom. Qin Fang gets to Xi Xi first and hides with her by hanging on the building ledge. He’s overcome his fear of height for Si Teng, eh? Then Qin Fang returns to the teacher and wipes out her memory. Ou, he’s got powers too. He tells Xi Xi these are the powers of Chi San. He wants her to remember Chi San but Xi Xi yawns, “Qin Fang, I’m tired”. She reaches her arm out for him and he picks her right up.

Retrospective thought: Wang Qing Kuan had such a problem analyzing Qin Fang's DNA because he wasn't human

Qin Fang is pretty emotional when he realizes he’s found Si Teng but he doesn’t show it in front of her.
Xi Xi dreams of Bai Jin – or more like Bai Jin’s ancestor because this guy is wearing all white. She thinks he brought her into this “place” but it was her who brought him here. She exclaims that she’s that powerful. He nods. Then in her dream she falls asleep again. Bai Jin Ancestor casts a spell on her and tells her to have another good dream. When Xi Xi wakes up, all she admits to Qin Fang is that she’s an alien too. Since they’re both aliens, why not be friends? Xi Xi asks.

*I’m editing this when I already watched the last episodes. I think this dream is pretty important to interpret the ending. The man in here is not Bai Jin but Bai Jin’s great great (?) grandfather who likes to wear white as Si Teng recalled way back in Ep5

Xi Xi is also very, very curious how Qin Fang knows of Yi Ru. Qin Fang is rather amused (of her jealousy in such a small body). On the topic of Yi Ru, they suspect her mother is an alien too. She might be a panda who loves bamboo (Zhu = bamboo).

Qin Fang prepares a lot of human food for Xi Xi. He asks her if she knows of a Si Teng. She doesn’t answer but when he comments that he just wants to know if she’s heard of the legendary Si Teng, Xi Xi goes “Of course! Si Teng is amazing, very amazing!” Xi Xi gives two big thumbs up too.

Qin Fang and Xi Xi sneak into Mom’s home. Qin Fang pours oil onto a bamboo broom and out appears Mom. Then Qin Fang flicks on the lighter. He knows aliens are afraid of fire. Mom becomes complacent. She tells them she’s dying and wanted to raise a child of her own before her death. Qin Fang is curious that she, an alien, can die too. Of course she can. There was only one exception and that was in Si Teng. Apparently Si Teng killed her friends. Then Mom tells them about Yi Ru. Qin Fang assures her that Yi Ru does miss her mother.

At lunch, Xi Xi makes Qin Fang order the kids combo with her. He also ordered Si Teng’s favourite drinks. Xi Xi deliberately drops her spoon. Qin Fang smirks, and picks it up for her. When he looks up again, Xi Xi has grown up to be Si Teng! Si Teng tells him what if she doesn’t come back anymore. She wants him to look forward in life (without her) but Qin Fang’s goal in life is to look for her. It’s obvious this Si Teng is only Qin Fang’s reverie.

Xi Xi wants to buy makeup. She uses Qin Fang as her model. He closes his eyes for Xi Xi to draw his eyebrows. A familiar voice speaks, “Your eyebrow line is very pretty” It’s romantic...but Qin Fang has very red lips and rosy cheeks, I can’t, lol. Is this Si Teng a dream too? Qin Fang closes his eyes again. We’ll know next episode. Finale!!

[Ep30] Are the previous adult-Si-Teng hallucinations? Not really. Wang Qing Kun calls up Qin Fang to tell him that Si Teng could potentially disappear because of her forceful desire to grow up to match Qin Fang. It's true Xi Xi is disappearing. Her hands have faded.

There's a way to extend Si Teng's life: to absorb another alien's power. Technically, Qin Fang has Bai Ying's powers. However, if Si Teng takes his then Qin Fang will die. Of the two of them, only one can survive.

Qin Fang takes Xi Xi to the merry go round. The way Qin Fang accompanies Si Teng is something I find really touching. Si Teng had the one of the worst childhoods. Qin Fang is replacing her childhood with memories like these

Qin Fang puts a sleeping Xi Xi to bed. He notices there's green particles on his coat (where Xi Xi was lying on). I don’t know what he’s concerned about. Is it because she's dying and those are green particles of her? Qin Fang comforts Xi Xi (knowing she's awake) that they have tons of time together so there's no need for her to rush to grow up. With her eyes closed, Xi Xi nods. Qin Fang smiles. Atta girl. Xi Xi gets up and hugs Qin Fang. She's sorry that she can't grow up. Then she snaps her fingers and Qin Fang falls asleep. Xi Xi has left to her mother's. She's here to bargain with Mom: "Give me your powers and I'll give you the chance to avenge your friends against Si Teng."

Qin Fang wakes up and immediately goes to Mom's place. Mom has aged overnight. Did Si Teng (Xi Xi) really take her powers? But where is Si Teng? Don't know. Yi Ru is back home, though. Mom tells Qin Fang that Xi Xi used her powers to cure Yi Ru's legs. Okay, but where is Si Teng! Mom doesn't know why Xi Xi would want to accelerate her growth in such a short time. It's suicidal for their kind. Qin Fang knows why. For love
Qin Fang finds Si Teng. This time it really is Si Teng. She keeps the mood light and complains she's hungry. Qin Fang takes her hand in his as they walk down the street. They're making their own dinner. Why am I teary? Is this Si Teng's last moment?

Si Teng never took Mom's powers (I believe she just transferred that power to Yi Ru). She's not that type of person. She's in such a rush to grow up because she wants to say something before Qia Fang turns old. Qin Fang knows what she's about to say before she even says it.

Qin Fang: I love you too.
Si Teng smiles: You really do know everything.

He also knows Si Teng wants to be a normal person to live a normal life. It's his turn to snap his fingers. Si Teng falls unconscious. He's going to give her his powers.

Qin Fang is dying D:. Yan Fu Rui accompanies him to watch the sunrise that he never got to see with Si Teng. When he found out his birth origins (Qingtian Tree), he knew his life's resolve was to always be there for Si Teng. If she needs him, she'll be able to find him. He dies. QIN FANG DIES! And he still didn't get to see the sunrise! Okay, that means he's going to see it with Si Teng, right??

Years are passing. Xi Xi is happily growing up and doing everything she loves. It's exactly as Qin Fang had wished for her: being a normal person, living a normal life. She also has loving parents. Occasionally she'll dream of this big tree. She's studying environment in university and has a project. With her schoolmates, they hike across a forest. One of the girls recite a legend: there used to be a thousand year old Qingtian Tree but one day it disappeared. Overwhelmed with her flashbacks, Xi Xi faints. The students bring her to the closest resting place which happens to be Yan Fu Rui's restaurant. He's old now with grey streaks. Yang Fu Rui drops his tea at the sight of her. Qin Fang was right: Si Teng is back for Qin Fang. However, the current Xi Xi has no memories of Qin Fang. Even if Yan Fu Rui tells her everything, she has no recollection. Yan Fu Rui takes Xi Xi to Qin Fang's old house – their home. And there he is. Qin Fang didn't die!!! But he's old now and he's vegetative. Upon seeing him, Xi Xi still doesn't remember him.

Flashback. Qin Fang had asked Bai Jin for help to transfer his powers to Si Teng and to erase her memories.

Present. Instinctively, Xi Xi touches Qin Fang's forehead to enter his memories. She remembers she's Si Teng! But why can't these two be the same age! Yan Fu Rui relays Qin Fang's last wish was for Si Teng to live a happy life. Yan Fu Rui didn't think Si Teng/Xi Xi would have found them so soon. For fifteen years, Qin Fang has been in this state where he can't live nor die. Yan Fu Rui was going to have his generation care for Qin Fang.

Flashback. Qin Fang says his last words to an unconscious Si Teng. He recalls that he seems to have been born with everything but in reality he had nothing. He never had any ambitions in life. He never feared of losing anything. Except Si Teng.

Present. Si Teng updates Qin Fang her life in these fifteen years. She's done a lot of volunteer work. She also traveled a lot. The only thing she never did was dating. She just never liked any men. Now she knows why no man caught her interest. All of her love was given to Qin Fang.

Flashback. Qin Fang's life was born because of her but he knows that he was born for her. Qin Fang exists for Si Teng.
Flashback. Qin Fang kisses Si Teng.

Present. Si Teng holds onto Qin Fang's hands. Then a pot of plant grows. To signal Si Teng's powers are back?

Si Teng takes Qin Fang on a stroll; he's in a wheelchair. Si Teng doesn't yearn to live like a human anymore – not when it's without Qin Fang.

Si Teng: You once told me that you were born for me. Now, I'll tell you I'm willing to die for you.

The two of them disappear in the forest together.

Yan Fu Rui takes his grandson to walk back home. He cries but denies he's crying. His grandson asks him why his name is Shu Wa Fang. He comes up with a random excuse but really it's to recall there once was a Wa Fang. He's Wa Fang's son.

Then Yan Fu Rui tells Shu Wa Fang the story of an alien named Si Teng.

The end?
Nope!
There’s an extra episode!

[ExtraThis extra is an alternate ending and it starts here:

Si Teng is in such a rush to come back because she wants to say something before Qin Fang turns old. Qin Fang says it for her.

Qin Fang: I love you too.
Si Teng smiles: You really do know everything.

But. If he does know everything then he should know that Si Teng would never use Bai Ying’s powers that’s residing in him. Si Teng never goes back on her words – she said she would realize his wish (his "ambition"). She lived for two generations making her own decision. She won’t let Qin Fang make it for her. Si Teng snaps her fingers and Qin Fang faints.

Si Teng recalls that Bai Jin's Ancestor gave her a seed. He tells her that if everyone has a seed (a metaphorical seed to mean hope) then life won't be too hard. Si Teng will use that seed – that hope – to let Qin Fang live his life with happiness.

When Qin Fang wakes up, Si Teng isn't there anymore. Xi Xi is. Yan Fu Rui tells Qin Fang that Si Teng left him a dream to relay a message to Qin Fang: to take care of Xi Xi.

Qin Fang takes Xi Xi to a new family. She cries that if he dares to abandon her, she won't love him again – she'll never love him again. But Qin Fang leaves her. Qin Fang wants her to grow up in a normal family.

Fifteen years later

It's Xi Xi's 20th birthday. She has one wish. She asks her parents if they can find Qin Fang Uncle for her. Qin Fang has only contacted the parents once. He left them an address if Xi Xi ever asks for him. However, only Xi Xi can find him. If someone else accompanies her then she'll never find Qin Fang. Xi Xi embarks on this journey alone.

Once Xi Xi enters this home, her appearance changes. A lady takes her in and says she must be the substitute that Mr. Qin had told her about. Qin Fang is here looking the same! He hasn’t aged! But he doesn't recognize Xi Xi who has a new face on. He tells her that Si Teng has gone out for a walk and tells her to make tea for Si Teng. Why? Qin Fang says she should. And voila, there is Si Teng. They're both alive!! She offers Xi Xi two options: ask about her past or take her birthday present and leave. If she asks then Si Teng will tell her every single thing. Whether or not Xi Xi can handle the truth will be none of her business. Xi Xi asks for time to decide.
Xi Xi has a lot of questions for Qin Fang. Why doesn't Qin Fang age? Why did her face change? Why does Si Teng look like her? Is she even human? There's all these questions but Xi Xi doesn't know if she should ask Si Teng. Qin Fang softly smiles. He draws her three circles. The first circle is her. The second circle is the truth that's next to her. But the truth might be so grand that it encompasses both the circles. If you think I get this diagram, you're wrong

Xi Xi comes out of the village as if she's forgotten everything. Her parents are waiting for her outside and asks if she remembers why she's here. Xi Xi is like Of course! My birthday present was for an independent trip. A black eagle flies across, Is this Bai Jin?

Si Teng is a little surprised Xi Xi chose to not ask. The present Si Teng gave her was to remove Xi Xi's memories of seeing them. Qin Fang is like Of course Xi Xi wouldn't ask. Xi Xi is different from Si Teng. They grew up differently. Xi Xi was loved by her parents. Qin Fang recalls Si Teng's childhood and how she was abused by Qiu Shan.

Qin Fang: Back then I thought if there was a day I could make you smile again, even if it meant dying, it will be worth it.

But now he ain’t wishing for that. He won't die. He wants to live with her forever, to be by her side forever, to watch her smile forever.

Si Teng: Always?
Qin Fang: Always.
Si Teng: Okay. Will you disappear one day all of a sudden?
Qin Fang: If I do disappear, will you look for me just like how I looked for you?
Si Teng: Of course I will. When I find you, I'll cripple you so that way you can't leave me.
Qin Fang: Oh yeah, how come I never thought of that.
Si Teng: You dare!
Qin Fang: I wouldn't. I can't fight against you.

The end!

Qin Fang and Si Teng live on forever and ever.

Remarks

[First Impression (Ep1-6)] This looks really good. I just hope the story stays good. I have zero faith in modern fantasy romance cdramas and I was skeptical during every minute of this until I got to the second half of Ep4 when the eccentric masters gathered. That was fun. It doesn’t mean I’m not skeptical of this anymore, I just decided to take on the risk and enjoy this as much as possible.

Our FL is originally a Tree and she still wants to be a Tree again so I don't quite know how she's going to romance a Human or whether she wants to romance a Human. There is also a Revenge plot that I can’t quite figure out who she wants revenge against or if she wants revenge at all. What intrigues me the most is who is the Si Teng in the drama? Is she real or is she fake? Is she half or is she full? Why did she die or why did they die?

I have a lot of questions for the other characters as well. Shan Zhi Gao is suspicious but I think he’s good. I don’t think Qiu Shan is a mad scientist. I think the mad scientist might just be Bai Jin instead. A lot of questions and I’m eager to figure them out. This is a premiere that went beyond my expectations.

[Actors/Actresses] Jing Tian is such a good pick for Si Teng. She’s got rather exotic features for a Chinese actress that really fits Si Teng, an otherworldly being. Plus she looks great in qipao.

[Behind the Scenes

[Ending] There's two ending. It's bittersweet but I think it's more sweet than it is bitter IF you’re just watching the first ending only.

The second ending is an alternate ending, instead of Qin Fang sacrificing for Si Teng it’s Si Teng sacrificing for Qin Fang – or that’s what I thought.

Below is my interpretation.

Rather than an alternate ending, I think the extra is a continuation. Si Teng is a character that can create miracles – Qin Fang had said this too. Si Teng is capable of doing anything. When she disappeared with Qin Fang in a wheelchair at the end of Ep30, I think she may have went back in time so that she can snap her fingers before Qin Fang could sacrifice for her. The way she was talking in the Extra Episode clearly felt like she had preconceived knowledge of what Qin Fang was going to do for her.

To be honest, I’m still a bit iffy about the traveling back in time. The other interpretation is that Ep30 was a dream. In Ep29, Xi Xi had a dream of Bai Jin (Ancestor). He closed her eyes and told her to have another good dream. Therefore, the entirety of Ep30 is a dream cast by Bai Jin's Ancestor to show Si Teng a very real reverie of what Qin Fang will do for her. At the end of Ep30, she steps out of that dream world, parallel world, whatever world and takes control of her future using the seed that Bai Jin’s Ancestor had given her. My understanding of how she used the seed is that she used it for herself. I know she said that she was going to use it for Qin Fang's happiness but after "living" through Ep30, I believe Si Teng realized Qin Fang's happiness lies with her. Therefore she used the seed on herself because that would be using it for Qin Fang.

Either interpretation brings us to the existence of both a Xi Xi and a Si Teng. If that seed gave Si Teng the ability to be a full alien/demon again, I believe she also went through another mitosis to create a Xi Xi. Just like how Bai Ying split from Si Teng because of her love for Shao Yan Kuan, Si Teng split from Xi Xi because she wanted to stay with Qin Fang. Xi Xi’s existence was also for Si Teng to experience life as a human and receive love from a regular family. In an odd sense, Si Teng is Xi Xi’s “ancestor” and that is why Qin Fang insisted Xi Xi had to make tea for Si Teng (it’s a Chinese thing to make tea for your ancestor, master, etc.)

The very last conversation between Si Teng and Qin Fang also allude to the fact that the extra is a continuation. Qin Fang said this:
"Back then I thought if there was a day I could make you smile again, even if it meant dying, it will be worth it."
That happened in Ep30. Qin Fang "died" for her happiness. It's just Qin Fang doesn't know of it because in his time-frame Ep30 never happened.. But Si Teng knows.

There's another line that hints Si Teng knows of Ep30:

"When I find you, I'll cripple you so that way you can't leave me."

Si Teng wasn’t threatening him, she was telling him the actual consequence because it happened.

Done! That is my interpretation. The extra is not an alternate ending. They truly will live and love each other forever and ever.

Final Review

[Review & Rating]

It’s rare a drama I expect to underperform outperforms in every category I can think of: storytelling, chemistry, and cinematography. Rattan is the story of Si Teng, our regal tree. It’s a one of a kind modern fantasy romance with a Chinese-Western fusion (Beijing opera mixed with aliens). The cinematography is breathtaking – Yunnan looked exceptionally beautiful through these lens. This is advertising I will endorse because it actually enhances the drama. Equally if not more stunning than the creative and visual appeal is the content of the drama: characterization and plot development

Si Teng is domineering yet captivatingly endearing. It’s fitting of her character to be overbearing, like an aristocrat’s daughter, member of the upper crust. She means no harm unless provoked even if you’re a kid. Her recrimination doesn’t discriminate against age or sex, human or demon. In contrast to Si Teng’s ironclad exterior is the sweet girl within her. Her acclimatizing to the modern human world was such a treat. It was funny when she took the passport photos. It was cute when she tasted flavoured drinks for the first time. It was amusing when she watched a 3D movie. It was the cutest and sweetest thing ever when she bloomed flowers because of Qin Fang. It’s little tidbits like this that makes Si Teng special and this entire drama worthwhile.

Si Teng attracts the limelight but Si Teng wouldn’t be our lovable Si Teng without a Qin Fang. He’s got all the typical CEO characteristics: rich, handsome, and young. His character is so typical and yet so atypical. Perhaps it’s this pairing that brings out the best in these two. Also, there’s no man who loves like Qin Fang. [Spoiler!!] His love goes beyond boundaries: from loving a tree to potential incest to being a lolicon. [/Sp] Qin Fang will love Si Teng no matter what she is.

Despite all the attractive elements, it’s the plot development that keeps this drama grounded. The mystery behind Si Teng, Bai Ying, Shao Yan Quan and Qiu Shan were all intriguing and kept me eagerly waiting for the next episode. I also love the comical touches from Yan Fu Rui. My favourite is the ending. It was a full circle.

This director, Li Mu Ge, is exquisite at storytelling. He’s got a fine control of story flow and balanced it with impressive visual appeal. That ending he created left me ruminating over it for nights – in a good way. FYI, the director was also acting in the drama – as Bai Jin! He was also the black eagle working his magic making everything better at the end. (;
