Mini Recaps

[Ep1] Ye Xiao Tang is a cursed one. Her first betrothed passed away from sickness before she steps out of her carriage. Her second fiance was struck by lightening and is still in a coma before their engagement. It's been three years and she still can't marry. She's blacklisted from all marriage agencies for her cursed fate. She has one more year until she's twenty and she's desperate to marry. She sells herself in the marketplace but it's illegal and guards are chasing after her. That's when she runs into him:
Mu Jin Yan. He is the one she is determined to marry once she fell onto him after running away from the guards at the market place. The engagement dowry is the coin he dropped. She tells him he's extremely lucky to be engaged to her with just one coin. He is also the new judicial officer sent to her city. His first case is the murder of Li Chu. Ye Xiao Tang is the prime suspect. He clears her suspicions. Partially.
[Ep2] After a series of event Ling Zi Ran becomes the new suspect. Except, he can't be. He's the 9th Prince. Royals can't be suspects. But anyways he is innocent. And now the three of them work together to solve this murder case.

Meanwhile Ye Xiao Tang is still pursuing her prince charming. She's determined to marry him before she turns 20. Why 20? Because that's when she'll die. Her mother's lineage has supernatural powers, they can enter dreams; the downside is they die early. Knowing that she just has one third of an average person's life expectancy she convinces herself that she must life with two-thirds more happiness. Hence she'll do whatever it takes to win the man she loves. Life is too short for embarrassment.

[Ep3] The 9th Prince is able to sniff out the criminal.
[Ep4] Case solved but it was unfortunate for the murderer. YXT lies on MJY for comfort.
[Ep5] Next case: living people are burning up spontaneously. Ling Zi Ran is injured while protecting YXT. Feeling guilty she cares for him and even feeds him. A jealous MJY comes in to expose LZR's non-injury.
[Ep6] Normally YXT would climb over the fence to enter MJY's manor but this time it's fenced up. However it's not by MJY's orders. He's actually mulling over the fact that YXT hasn't visited him. His feelings for her are still hidden while 9th Prince, Ling Zi Ran has confessed.

Back to the case. MJY suddenly faints over. It's case related but YXT thought it was because of her awful cooking. He tells her he likes her food and doesn't want her to cook it for someone else (ahem he means Ling Zi Ran). If that's not a confession, I don't know what is. When MJY needs another's blood to treat his poison, YXT doesn't hesitate and slits her palm.

[Ep7] YXT thinks MJY doesn't like her but he does. When he wanted to clarify he gets interrupted by Ling Zi Ran. LZR is here for one mission: propose. He gets down on one knee and proposes to YXT. MJY watches grudgingly on the side. Of course, she doesn't accept his proposal. She wants to marry someone she loves. Dad wants her to marry someone who loves her and doesn't think MJY cares about her so he organizes a contest for men to compete for his daughter. If that worked she didn't need to sell herself at the market... All the contestants who turn up are below par. Way below par. Except LZR. MJY also heard of the contest but only stands at the door, he doesn't show himself. YXT still sees him and runs after him. She's convinced he likes her but he denies it. He needs to prioritize his unknown mission, you see. Romance is too much of a hindrance to him.

The case isn't solved yet and YXT is kidnapped. MJY finds her and is ready to sacrifice himself to protect her. They both turn out to be safe and solve the case of bugs causing spontaneous burn-up of human bodies. It also seems like this case is related to LZR's mother's death.

Remarks

First Impression (Ep1-6): First episode is interesting. I'm getting I've Fallen For You vibes because of the production level and simple laid out plot from the very beginning. It does follow the same format where the leads are solving cases with an underlying major crime that will unfold itself near the end. The romance hasn't grasped me at all but I do like the girl's personality: bright. I'm also interested in her background and how she will lift her family's curse.

Dropped: The drama is decent. I am a bit curious about everyone's past/purpose. However, it's just not as romantic or funny, or engaging. I find myself zoning out. If this aired a week earlier, I would have finished this given I already watched two-thirds of it. There's just way too many other dramas to watch. Another day in Cdramaland.
