[Ep1] Qin Shen (秦深) and Yuan Qian (原浅) are first year university students. Their names when read together (Qing Shen Yuan Qian) form a Chinese idiom: 情深缘浅. Their surnames are written differently. It’s an idiom that means “Love is deep but fate is shallow”; two people who are in love but because of reasons they cannot be together.
Yuan Qian is on her way to an exam to change her major but she bumps into Qin Shen and falls into the lake. He tried to save her but she’s already in the water. He tried to jump into the water but as he was taking off his shoe, a paddler on the lake already reached her. Qin Shen, your shoes must be tied on very tightly. He runs around the lake to lift her up from the water (one foot shoe-less). In hindsight, he tells himself he should get rid of his habit of removing a shoe before saving someone. Ha, he’s not a bad guy, lol. Just a little slow. Very slow. His roommates thinks he’s an idiot too. Yuan Qian doesn’t get to write her exams.
Song Si Yi is the boy who saved Yuan Qian from the water. He’s super friendly. Yuan Qian’s friend (Luo Xin Xin) think he likes her. He overhears Yuan Qian saying she doesn’t like him because he’s nice to everyone. If he’s nice to everyone she doesn’t know if he likes her. Her words remind him of his childhood friend. With that, he might actually start liking her.
Qin Shen feels bad Yuan Qian fell in the water because of him. He stops her when he notices her face is red. He thinks she’s got a fever. He waits until she was done with her meeting to give her medication. He doesn’t like owing people.
Qin Shen isn’t exactly lucky meeting Yuan Qian either. When they bumped into each other, his clay sculpture of a skull had half his face squashed. And now she completely squashed his skull. She fixes it overnight, hoping he doesn’t notice but with one glimpse he knows this skull isn’t his. He goes to check the security camera. Yuan Qian runs out but she stops in her tracks. Qin Shen is outside waiting for her to expose himself. He knew it was her. He won’t accept her work as his and ends up not handing his sculpture to the teacher.
Their fate isn’t that shallow as their name foretells, they continue to shake up each other’s lives. He accidentally pushes her into the mud (I think he starts liking her here) and she accidentally walks into the men’s shower and sees him half-naked.
[Ep2] When other boys ask Qin Shen who was the shameless girl who barged into the men’s shower, Qin Shen lies that he doesn’t know. Yuan Qian is within hearing distance and sighs in relief.
The university departments are having a basketball match. Yuan Qian is voluntold to participate for the Sculpture Department. The rules are boys and girls play but only when girls score do the points count. Yuan Qian skips out on practice and asks her friend to substitute. Her friend casually jokes that Yuan Qian must be searching for young and hot boys. Qin Shen forcefully calls her back to practice. No subs allowed. He’s a Doncic fan? I think I like him more, now. He’s rather harsh with her at practice. This fires up Yuan Qian to improve. She’s so tired from practice, she walks right into Ling Wei who has her water bottle open. Water is spilled all over her chest. Qin Shen quickly wraps his sweater around Yuan Qian to protect her. Yuan Qian is a little moved by that sweet action.
Ling Wei’s friends help Ling Wei get revenge on Yuan Qian by hitting her on court. Ling Wei likes Qin Shen (but she doesn’t make it obvious). Yuan Qian was about to lose her balance on court, Qin Shen gives her a helpful nudge to keep her on her feet.
It’s halftime.Yuan Qian asks Qin Shen to give her a chance with the ball. He’s ignored her on the court this whole time. When he does give her the ball, she scores in her own team’s basket. However, she does get the last shot in before the shot clock is down. Their team wins.
Qin Shen is teased by his friends about Yuan Qian but he says he’s not interested in dating.
Qin Shen: If a man is touched by love then he’ll be weak. And I am not a man with a weakness. What. Does he belong in this century?
Song Si Yi and Yuan Qian are punished for being late. They have to clean the sports/recreation room, The entire time, he’s making a move on her. He’s certain she’s his childhood friend. She secretly uses the scale to weigh herself. He plays a prank on her by adding his foot to the pound. She starts attacking him and throws a dirty cloth at him but he dodges and it hits Qin Shen instead. Qin Shen pretends to be not jealous, at least that’s what I think.
Out of revenge for her friend, Luo Xin Xin who thinks she was dumped and lied to by Si Yi, Yuan Qian locks him in the rec room. However, she accidentally locked Qin Shen and Ling Wei instead. Qin Shen is angry at her but he’s even angrier when Si Yi takes Yuan Qian’s hand to leave.
Qin Shen waits for her to return to the rec room. When she does, he immediately helps her carry the heavy stuff. She’s looking for her pink dirty rag. Qin Shen smirks. He had thrown it up on the shelf. Seeing her attempt a height she cannot reach, he decides to help her but like a monkey, she jumped onto the shelf to grab it. Her grip on the shelf loosen. Thankfully, Qin Shen catches her on the neck. Does he want to kiss her? He thought about it.
Second Couple: I think it’s between Luo Xin Xin and Chen Qi Nan (Qin Shen’s roommate). They’re funny together.
[Ep3] Yuan Qian realizes the man who scammed Luo Xin Xin of her money isn’t Song Si Yi. It’s another man and she’s here to catch him redhanded. Qin Shen helps her. He’s a little impressed with her and smiles as she tells him her plans. She too smiles at him. Pink feelings are floating about. Flustered, Yuan Qian quickly turns around to break the eye contact. Qin Shen instinctually covers her eyes with his hand before her face smashes into the pole. Even more flustered, she hugs the pole to move away from his touch.
Qin Shen continues to be teased by his friends for liking Yuan Qian. He denies it but his friends know he does. The next morning, Yuan Qian and Qin Shen bump into each other again. Her lipstick mark taints his shirt. Yuan Qian thought he was going to yell at her but he warns her to not just run into any man next time and leave kissing marks.
The sculpting major is having a crisis. Their year will be the last one. Yuan Qian is in dilemma. She had wanted to change majors. She also angered the professor. Changing majors won't be easy. When the opportunity arrives for her to suck up to him, she immediately takes it. The professor assigned Qin Shen to sculpt the body of a woman (naked). He doesn't know where to find a model. Yuan Qian assures them she'll help. It's quite difficult though especially with the meagre budget she's given. She tries to sweet talk Qin Shen to raise the budget by giving him a peach blossom scented hand cream. She even applies it on him. Surprisingly, he lets her rub the cream on him. Unfortunately, the chance is wasted. She doesn't get to ask her question. He leaves with her hand cream though.
Back at the dorm, Qin Shen smiles at his new cream. He won't even let his friend use it. The friend comments on how there's peach blossom scent all over him. Peach blossom scent is the smell of love. However, any sort of blossoming love is about to disappear. He learns she's doing all this to change majors.
[Ep4] Although he’s disappointed at the reason why Yuan Qian wants to find the model, Qin Shen still helps her to get the model to agree. She asks him how he did it but he's cold to her. Distracted, she accidentally takes off the notch from the tap. Water squirts out. Qin Shen helps her clamp down on the water by putting his hands over hers. Yuan Qian feels funny at his touch. She quickly backs away as he helps her fix the tap. After he helps her, he's still cold.
Qin Shen and Yuan Qian are enlisted to help the fourth years complete their project. It's also a learning experience for them. An incompetent senior blames his mistake onto Yuan Qian. Qin Shen clears her name. But she still has to help the seniors finish preparing the ingredients. She ends up getting trapped in the place. Qin Shen is locked up with her. He says he fell asleep. Yuan Qian figures out how to unlock the gates. She climbs up but gets herself stuck there. Qin Shen pulls her out like a kid, lol.
The boys talk about hugging a cute girl. This makes Qin Shen think of pulling out Yuan Qian from the gates. He's like, it doesn't feel like much. So he thinks she's cute. The next day, they're working together again to help the fourth years. She stares up at him. There's love in her eyes. She's so distracted by his cute glasses, she accidentally dabs clay on his nose. He doesn't really care though. They're happily working on the project together.
Qin Shen injures his hand to protect Yuan Qian. He keeps it a secret until she asks him to help her carry pails of water. Despite his hand hurting, he still tries to help her and that's when he's exposed. She drags him with her so she can wrap up his wound. Shyly, she asks him for dinner to thank him for protecting her. He doesn't answer. She thinks she's rejected but he asks her what time. The man needed a full minute to process her dinner date.
[Ep5] Qin Shen is late for his date. It's for the most ridiculous reason. His roommates have their head stuck in their bed-frame. Qin Shen isn't the type of guy to ditch his friends for his date even though he can't do anything to help them out. Let's rewind back to how this all happened. It was 6:20pm and Yuan Qian was checking his phone every minute. His date is at 7pm. One of his friends sense how odd he is and steals his phone but gets his head stuck. The other friend laughs at him and gets his head stuck too. While they wait for firefighters to save them, Yuan Qian waited for him for hours. He couldn't have texted her earlier to tell her why he's late?? The cafeteria closes and she's forced to leave. Song Si Yi walks her home. From afar, he sees Qin Shen running at full speed to the cafeteria. Instinctively, he blocks her vision so that she doesn't see Qin Shen.
Qin Shen tries to apologize to Yuan Qian for being a no-show but this man is just so slow at it. When Yuan Qian is in the mood to listen to him, he walks away. Yuan Qian is speechless. I am too. This man is from a different world.
Yuan Qian realizes he didn't ditch her on purpose that night. She feels bad for giving him attitude and buys water for him (and everyone else but it was mostly for him). Qin Shen thought the water was from Ling Wei and throws it into the garbage. When his buddy reveals it was from Yuan Qian, he rummages for the bottle right from the garbage can. Everyone gawks at him. Yuan Qian smiles. He says his hand slipped. O-kay, lol.
Ling Wei confronts Qin Shen if he threw that bottle thinking it was from her. Yuan Qian happens to overhear but hides herself behind the curtain. She's surprised by her friend and hits her head on the railing. Qin Shen flings off Ling Wei to see if Yuan Qian is okay but he accidentally injures Ling Wei’s face.
[Ep6] Qin Shen goes out of his way to explain to Yuan Qian there's nothing special about him taking Ling Wei to the infirmary. She belatedly realizes he did text her that night. It's just Yuan Qian never turned on her message notification........ To prevent this from happening again, Qin Shen adds her on WeChat.
The two of them have parent problems. Qin Shen's parents want him to switch to law school. Meanwhile Yuan Qian's father wants her to just graduate. All she needs is a degree, what she learns doesn't matter. But it does matter. Yuan Qian wants to be a painter. She starts crying on the phone with her dad. Qin Shen sees her crying; he has a pack of tissue ready but he doesn't know how to comfort her. Luckily, her friend comes out and he give that tissue to her to comfort Yuan Qian. When Yuan Qian learns the tissue was from him, she smiles at it. Through this conversation, Qin Shen learns that she has more similarities to him than he thought.
Qin Shen spots something white on Yuan Qian's hair. He holds onto her bangs for prolonged period of time and it makes Yuan Qian nervous. He smiles.
Qin Shen: Can I tell you something? Pause. It's time to wash your hair.Yuan Qian: Bye.
Yuan Qian slips on stage. Qin Shen catches her. They hug a bit and the crowd cheers. Forgetting she's on stage, and forgetting she's supposed to be Artemis, she pushes him away and accidentally tears his shirt near his abs. He reaches out for her hand and makes her touch his abs. It's all part of the show, or at least that's what he's trying to make the audience believe. He lifts her chin to make her look at him to complete the show. Someone enlighten me whether there's a story like this between Apollo and Artemis. Where she touches his chest and needs to look up at him. Aren't they just twins? Is it an artwork? Am I reading too much into this?
[Ep7] The show ended but Shen Qin is still holding her chin. As they’re packing after the show, Yuan Qian accidentally misplaces her application letter to change majors in Shen Qin’s bag. She freaks out. She doesn’t want to let anyone know she’s “betraying” the department. And thus begins Yuan Qian’s mission to steal his bag. Everyone else thinks she’s super interested in him. His friend is even like, after that hug, you two are like a family now. Their hugging picture goes viral. Yuan Qian makes a misleading comment in the group chat when she compliments the CP feels. Everyone thinks it’s a confession. Shen Qin is secretly happy.

The earphone moment. Yuan Qian is eyeing Shen Qin’s bag the entire time they’re on the bus. He thought she wanted to listen to his music so he casually puts his earphones on her. Drama makes him put it on the ear that’s further away so they’re closer together. Totally not complaining.
Shen Qin was a little hopeful too that Yuan Qiann was crazily in love with him but he soon realizes what she’s really after: the letter in his backpack.

Shen Qin refuses to go to the escape room with Chen Qi Nan but when he realizes Yuan Qian is going, he abruptly changes his mind. Like always. Shen Qin purposely lets Yuan Qian take his bag this time but when Yuan Qian searches through it, she can’t find the letter. It’s in his hand. He personally gives it back to her. He assures her that it’s not betrayal when she’s chasing after her dream.
[Ep8] Yuan Qian and Shen Qin trips in the escape room. They both fall over with him on top of her. He's dazed and frozen. She asks him if he's a pig to wake him up to let her go. Yuan Qin rolls out.
They find a smart watch. It's the last key they need. They just need to reach a certain heart rate to retrieve it. Yuan Qian is running around him in circles to get her heart rate to pick up. But it's not working. Shen Qin signals her to come forward to him. He then pulls her towards his chest. He's hugging her. Her heart rate immediately surges. Qin Shen gulps. The key is unlocked. The two of them awkwardly separate. Love is in the air ~
Shen Qin and Yuan Qian are late back to the dorm. On their way, they get pamphlets for a motel. This turns both of them awkward. The dorms are closed and Yuan Qian is pulling at the handles to open them but they're locked. Yuan Qian tugs onto Shen Qin's shirt asking him for help. Shen Qin looks at her hand on his shirt. She apologizes. But he likes it. He's smiling. The lady who opens the door for them complains about them forgetting the time because they're too busy in love. Shen Qin lets another smile out.
The next day, Yuan Qian is extra cautious whenever Qin Shen is near her. It also seems like he's purposely being near her. He must know how affected she is. He'll continuously touch her hand "naturally". He'll grab Yuan Qian's drink for her. He'll let her drink after him when he hates sharing saliva. When he extends his palm towards her, she thought he wanted her hand. He knows he's misleading her and smirks when she shyly gives him her hand. He clarifies he wanted the rag. I like this progression. They know they like each other. They're in that teasing phase. At least he is.
[Ep9] Yuan Qian discovers Song Si Yi is quitting his team not because he gave up his passion but he needs to earn money for his mother’s hospital fee. Yuan Qian also realizes he’s her childhood friend. He wants a hug and she reluctantly gives it. Qin Shen sees this. He’s jealous. That’s probably the accelerator he needs. At lunch he stands next to her seat without a sound. He wants to sit in her seat when everywhere around her is empty. She tries to ask him if there’s something he wants to ask of her but he’s like there’s nothing.
Qin Shen is back in his dorms and his friends are conveniently talking about how to confess and how to test if the girl likes you. There’s three checks: talk to you, talk to you about her private matters, hangs out with you alone. Qin Shen tests this out at the library with Yuan Qian. He sits at her table. She happens to have a question for him. She wants to know how he got his previous part-time job. She starts sharing details of her younger days. Shen Qin’s heart is filled with love; she fits two of the criteria already. There’s only the last test left. He asks her to go to a place but she tells him she doesn’t have time. He’s pouting. Or I think he’s pouting! Yuan Qian notices and explains she really doesn’t have the time. She needs to work. Thus he asks her if she has the time would she go. It’s a little awkward now and he clarifies it’s for school. She’s likes of course. His heart drops.
Yuan Qian is bullied by immature boys after she stepped up for Ling Wei. Who’s her knight? It’s Qin Shen. He shows up as her boyfriend to clear the boys. He takes her hand and guides her away. The two continue to chat while holding hands. She says it was her who technically started it. He teases her that he should have minded his own business then. He then purposely lets go of her hand. She corrects herself and thanks him for saving her, for being the knight to save the damsel in distress. Technically, she said a Chinese idiom: “hero saves the beauty”. Qin Shen picks at her words, “Beauty? You?” Snickers. But the one last to laugh is not him. He didn’t just go out randomly to save her. He was supposed to fetch his friend’s lunch but now he returns empty-handed.
[Ep10] Song Si Yi hears rumours that Qin Shen and Yuan Qian are dating. He asks Yuan Qian about it. Qin Shen overhears and smiles. But that smile disappears when Yuan Qian adamantly denies the rumours. That doesn’t stop Qin Shen from approaching her with any means. When he hears she applied for the job that a professor is offering him, he immediately takes the offer just to work with her. They’re part-time art teachers at this school for children. Yuan Qian overhears the other teachers gossip that only one of them (her or Qin Shen) can stay.
There’s a work dinner. Qin Shen tries to drink for Yuan Qian but she doesn’t want to be overshadowed by him even in drinking so she takes all of her own drinks. It’s later that he reveals they’re not competitors for the same job. He snickers at her for even considering to be his competition, lol.

Song Si Yi is given a sports contract that’s ten years. It practically guarantees his career but there’s one stipulation that’s bothering him: he cannot date within the ten years he's signed.
[Ep11] Yuan Qian wants to stand elsewhere on the bus because Qin Shen is too close but he tells her to stay put. The bus jostles and she falls back onto him. The entire time he stays right behind her. After they get off the bus, she asks him if there’s something he wants to tell her. She’s anticipating something romantic because of his actions. He really does have something to tell her: there’s a turtle drawn on her back. It’s that troublemaker from art class. The next day, the kid puts a mouse inside her shirt. That’s evil. Qin Shen quickly runs over to help. He has his palm on her chest. He’s caught the mouse but the mouse is still caught in her shirt. In the middle of class, the two teachers huddle in a corner to discuss how to get the mouse out. He tells her to open her shirt a bit and she tells him to close his eyes. Awkwardly, they manage to get the mouse out. After school, Yuan Qian is desperate to avoid him but he just wanted to tell her it’s raining outside. He gives her his umbrella meanwhile he leaves without one. Yuan Qian runs after him with the umbrella to share with him. He counters, "Are you done dodging me?" She cutely denies she ever did.
Qin Shen tells Yuan Qian to come closer under the umbrella. He also lifts her up to help her dodge obstacles on the ground. Well, that’s cute. He tries to change up the atmosphere by rushing to take the taxi but she pulls his shirt to tell him to slow down. His legs are too long for hers to catch up.
The next day, Qin Shen’s friends tease Qin Shen and Yuan Qian. Song Si Yi asks Yuan Qian if it was her who was sharing an umbrella with Qin Shen. She denies it. A jealous Qin Shen is within earshot and loudly reminds Yuan Qian to return the umbrella they used yesterday. Lie exposed.
There’s a celebration dinner at work. Yuan Qian doesn’t want to go because she doesn’t want to get drunk again. Qin Shen doesn’t want to go because Ling Wei is there. They skip out on dinner together. She asks him how they’re going to return to their dorms. Walk. He wants to spend more time with her. Eventually he takes her to his high school. She keeps pestering him why he would take her here. He doesn’t answer her. He leads the conversation by telling her that the path of art is a lonely one. It requires perseverance. This makes Yuan Qian think back to her choices and how if it wasn’t for him, she would have transferred her major by now. But then she did break his sculpture. She calls it even. Qin Shen calls it fate.
Ling Wei asks Yuan Qian why she didn't show up for dinner. If not for her, Ling Wei wouldn't have went. The way she words it makes Yuan Qian feel guilty. Qin Shen stands up for her to not accuse Yuan Qian for her own decision. When Ling Wei leaves, Yuan Qian asks Qin Shen if he was standing up for her. He tells her to guess. She still doesn't know.
When Qin Shen learns Ling Wei invited Yuan Qian to her birthday party, Qin Shen asks her what her motives are. She says she doesn’t have any. She just wants him to attend. He pulls her down onto his lap(?) and demands she sit with him. He smirks at successfully making her awkward. When someone offers her beer, he changes it to juice in front of everyone. They then play a game of truth and dare. Yuan Qian is asked if there's someone she likes. Qin Shen is eagerly waiting for her to say it's him but she tells everyone she doesn't have someone she likes.
Jia Si Cheng (the boy who likes Ling Wei) purposely misleads Yuan Qian into thinking Qin Shen used to like Ling Wei. And the purpose of that is...? Thankfully, Yuan Qian overhears Ling Wei confronting Qin Shen for appearing at her birthday party only because of Yuan Qian. Yuan Qian is slightly relieved but when Ling Wei tearfully asks her what she can do to make Qin Shen love her, Yuan Qian feels bad for her.
On their way back to the dorm, Yuan Qian asks Qin Shen about Ling Wei. She learns they never dated but that she liked him for a long time. Later that night he texts her to ask if she's still awake. It takes her forever to think of the perfect reply. Her reply is: "I am sleeping". A polite Qin Shen texts her back that he won't bother her then. Yuan Qian is disappointed. Do boys actually pass this test? I'd personally find it annoying to be bothered after I say I'm sleeping but then I wouldn't text them I'm sleeping when I'm actually sleeping. So I guess her logic is if she texts him she's sleeping, she's not actually sleeping.
Song Si Yi wins his rowing competition. He publicly thanks a girl for always being there for him. He doesn’t name her but it’s obviously Yuan Qian. Qin Shen sees the video and he's bothered by it the entire night. He calls her that night but she's on the phone with Song Si Yi. She quickly calls Qin Shen back but his phone is busy. Call again?
Yi Ming helps Qin Shen investigate into Song Si Yi's mysterious girl by asking Yuan Qian's friend. The friend conveniently tells Yi Ming that to win a girl over, the man needs to be aggressive. He needs to constantly appear within her line of vision. Qin Shen walks closer to hear this valuable piece of advice. He puts it into action but when such a tall guy looms over Yuan Qian, she admits to being uncomfortable. This wasn't the result Qin Shen wanted. Awkwardly, he leaves. But she calls him back to help her fix her swan sculpture. He tries to contain his happiness but soon that happiness is gone when he learns that she's busy these days trying to help Song Si Yi raise money. Upset, Qin Shen purposely destroys her swans. However, he's actually helping her. The dead swan sculpture earns a high praise from the professor. Ha.
Yi Ming helps Qin Shen investigate into Song Si Yi's mysterious girl by asking Yuan Qian's friend. The friend conveniently tells Yi Ming that to win a girl over, the man needs to be aggressive. He needs to constantly appear within her line of vision. Qin Shen walks closer to hear this valuable piece of advice. He puts it into action but when such a tall guy looms over Yuan Qian, she admits to being uncomfortable. This wasn't the result Qin Shen wanted. Awkwardly, he leaves. But she calls him back to help her fix her swan sculpture. He tries to contain his happiness but soon that happiness is gone when he learns that she's busy these days trying to help Song Si Yi raise money. Upset, Qin Shen purposely destroys her swans. However, he's actually helping her. The dead swan sculpture earns a high praise from the professor. Ha.
[Ep13] Song Si Yi calls Yuan Qian for dinner but she refuses him. She has other plans. She meets up with Qin Shen at the basketball court. She doesn’t finish her sentence because a basketball flies towards her. Qin Shen saves her. He tells her to continue where she left off but she’s too shy now.

[Ep14] There’s a trip that involves several departments. They’re supposed to team up (one girl and one boy). Yuan Qian teams up with Yi Ming. Qin Shen quickly pulls Yi Ming aside to snatch the spot to be her partner. As partners, they are one of the quicker teams to complete their tent. He smiles down at her and her poor heart can’t handle such a beautiful smile that he’s gracing her with. She falls backward. He catches her around her waist and they stay like that for a moment long enough to stare deeply in each other’s eyes.
After Yuan Qian accidentally soaks Qin Shen’s white shirt and his clothes become translucent, she starts salivating at his body line even when he’s fully clothed. She tells herself to snap out of it.
There another competition where the fastest team back from the hike is the winner. Yuan Qian tries to prove her legs aren’t short by jumping over a big ditch. She falls right into the ditch. Qin Shen pulls her up but accidentally rips her sleeves. She’s embarrassed at her skin exposing. He smirks and calls it even. He gives her his sweater to cover up.
[Ep15] Yuan Qian finally gets the hint that Qin Shen is jealous whenever she’s with Song Si Yi. She picks up her courage and asks him for a date to see if he likes her. She waits for his text the entire night and finally gets a simple okay from him.
Yuan Qian dresses up prettily for the date. Qin Shen catches her looking in the mirror to check her makeup. Yuan Qian lies that she forgot to check the mirror when she left the dorms. He replies with a smile, “You didn’t look in the mirror but you still applied your makeup so well.” She lectures him he should have complimented her for being pretty instead of exposing she has makeup on. Automatically (and sincerely) he compliments her for being pretty. She’s not quite used to him being nice to her. He pouts. He pouts!
Their date barely started getting sweet and it’s already dampened by Song Si Yi fan girls. There’s a rumour that Yuan Qian is his girlfriend and now that she’s out on a date with Qin Shen, the girls at the next table are snickering at her for being a cheater. Qin Shen pulls her tightly to him to shut the girls up. He also takes her back to the dorm via a secluded path to avoid any other gossipers.

The guy was about to punch her but Qin Shen saves her. He has her safely head-locked in his arms.
Qin Shen confronts Ling Wei. She denies that it's her. She hugs him and cries. Yuan Qian spots the two hugging from afar and tears start welling in her eyes too. Qin Shen yanks Ling Wei's arms off of him. He then notices Yuan Qian's footprints on the ground (from the clay under her shoes) and he quickly runs after her but she walks into Song Si Yi first. Song Si Yi uses his towel to cover her head to let her cry. He pulls her close. It's now Qin Shen's turn to see Yuan Qian and Song Si Yi hug. He walks away before he sees Yuan Qian pushing Song Si Yi away.
There's still tears in Yuan Qian's eyes as she walks back to her dorm. She passes by Qin Shen who never actually left. He stops her and notices she was crying. Qin Shen asks Yuan Qian about Song Si Yi. Yuan Qian fires back and asks about him and Ling Wei. Angrily, Yuan Qian leaves. Realizing she's jealous, Qin Shen grabs her back. Is a kiss coming soon? But that's not a very romantic way to grab a girl's face with one hand squeezing her cheeks like that.
[Ep16] They do kiss. Yuan Qian turns shy and accidentally falls backward right into the flower bed. Qin Shen picks her up rather roughly I must say. She's even more embarrassed.
Song Si Yi comes back to check on Yuan Qian. He wants to walk her home but Qin Shen won’t let him touch her. Song Si Yi and Qin Shen are about to start a brawl over Yuan Qian but right when the men hold their fists at each other, Yuan Qian protects Qin Shen. He’s brimming with love at her. Since both men insist on walking her back to her dorm, she suggests they both walk her. The road is wide enough for three people. That’s not quite the point though lol. She pleads with her eyes at Qin Shen and he reluctantly agrees. And so the two men half-drag-half-lift her back home.
The next day Qin Shen waits for Yuan Qian to go to lunch but when she asks him whether he purposely waited for her, he won’t admit it. Their arms keep bumping as they walk there. Or more like he keeps nudging her. Shy, she hides herself in her hoodie. Qin Shen reaches over to unravel her face from the hoodie. Their finally at the canteen but Yuan Qian doesn’t tell him she ate already. Qin Shen even gave her favourite beef noodle to her. She stuffs in the food for his sake. He asks about her birthday that’s in two days. He tells her if her friends don’t buy a cake for her, let him know. Yuan Qian brightens up. He then clarifies that he’ll let them know they forgot. She asks him about his birthday. She actually met him on his birthday. It was the day she fell into the water and his clay figure broke. He assures her he doesn’t hold grudges so rest assured, he won’t ruin his birthday like what she did to his. Displays an evil and innocent smile.
Yuan Qian doesn’t show up in class. Qin Shen randomly talks to Luo Xin Xin. She’s not used to him approaching her at all. She tells him to get to the point. Lol. Qin Shen stays wooden so she tells him without him asking that Yuan Qian is sick from eating too much. Qin Shen smiles. He knows she ate for him.
Ling Wei convinces her friend (Ya Qing) to apologize to Yaun Qian for starting the rumour about her and Song Si Yi but Yuan Qian’s stomach is really hurting she doesn’t stay to listen to the full apology. Ya Qing is offended. Her logic: How could you not listen to my apology? How rude. Ya okay. Qin Shen is there to save her from that annoyance and brings her to the hospital.
Yuan Qian is much better after some medication. Qin Shen tells her to not stuff herself anymore. Beef noodles will always be available. Yuan Qian quickly corrects him that she ate it because it was from him. He smiles and she becomes embarrassed for actually saying it aloud.
Song Si Yi offers to buy anything for Yuan Qian as her birthday present because he has a competition the day of her birthday. She chooses a simple headband. He wants her to wear it for him so she obliges but Qin Shen sees this exchange. He had bought her apple juice to soothe her stomach and he angrily shoves that in her hand.
It’s not just Qin Shen who’s mad at her, so are her friends. They find out she’s transferring to a different major and that she had never intended on staying. Her friends feel betrayed not because she’s transferring but because she never told them. Qin Shen’s predictions came true. Her friends really won’t celebrate her birthday with her.
[Ep17] Qin Shen senses something is off with Yuan Qian. He purposely visits her and comforts her about her friends. He tells her she did handle it poorly but if she cares about her friends, she should apologize properly. Yuan Qian smiles up at him admiringly. He’s saying the exact thing she needs to hear.
Yuan Qian apologizes but none of her friends are willing to forgive her. She’s set to celebrate her birthday alone. Qin Shen happily offers himself to her tonight. Yuan Qian calls him out for taking advantage of her situation. He admits immediately that he is. He’ll wait for at 8pm. Yuan Qian says she'll consider it. She’s not quite in the mood for it. When she’s back in the dorm, her friends have planned a surprise party for her. They were pretending to be angry at her this entire time. Yuan Qian tears up and celebrates with her friends. She almost forgot about Qin Shen. She calls to tell him all about it. She apologizes she won’t make it in time at eight. He smiles while listening to her ramble on and on. He asks her, “Then can I make an appointment with you at 9 to allow me to celebrate it with you individually?” Aw he’s sitting there waiting for her so patiently.
Yuan Qian asks him excitedly what he has planned for her. Qin Shen says he doesn’t quite like those over the top events. He prefers to be direct. Lies. He’s anything but indirect the past 16 episodes. He takes a step forward, “Do you want to consider being my girlfriend?” She’s like Does that mean what I think it means. What else can it mean?? She lectures him for being overly simple with his confession. She pouts that she won’t consider it. Qin Shen takes her wrist and gives her a bracelet. It’s handmade. He picked yellow crystals because that’s her lucky rock. He then takes her hand in both his and wishes her a happy birthday. She’s moved but that bracelet really isn’t the prettiest thing out there. She’s waiting for him to confess again but after being refused he smiles and says he can wait. OMG. Fool. Yuan Qian flattens her lips together and forces a smile, “You sure are amazing.”
The night is still young though. She hints to him that there are some words he can repeat to her. He’s like...happy birthday? That’s it. She leaves. He grabs her back. He reminds her that since Song Si Yi got a picture of her and his present, he wants the same too. He grabs her hand to take a selfie with the bracelet. Yuan Qian wants him to stop messing around and turns away from him. He questions her if she really won’t turn around. She won’t. So he makes her by telling her that her back isn’t pretty. Angrily, she spins around but the anger sizzles. He puts a rose right in front of her, “Yuan Qian, my little classmate, will you be my girlfriend.” Yuan Qian finally gives a yes, “Mm! I’ll give you a trial period!”

But how does one fix depression in one day? How does Yuan Qian even want to solve this to begin with? Next time when Yuan Qian wants to eat with him, he reminds her he's only a trainee boyfriend who's in a secret relationship with her. He refuses her lunch date offer. He's having his sweet revenge on her by making her jealous.
Qin Shen calls Yuan Qian to see if she's angry with how he handled the girl at the canteen. Yuan Qian picks up the call and immediately calls him Mom because Luo Xin Xin is right next to her. He threatens her that if she doesn't give him his proper title as his boyfriend he'll keep giving her attitude like that. But still he asks her for a movie date. And threatens her to accept it otherwise he'll tell his friends. With Luo Xin Xin at her side, Yuan Qian agrees to her "mom" that yes she'll be back for New Years.
Before the movie starts, Qin Shen holds onto Yuan Qian's hand. However, she flings off his hand the moment she sees a familiar peer. Qin Shen walks off on her. She tries to mend the situation by telling him since the theatres is dark he can do whatever he wants to her in there. Qin Shen is taken aback. When she's not looking he laughs at her. His revenge isn't quite over yet. At the movies, he purposely bought tickets that are on opposite aisles. He's not letting her sit near him. She sends him countless messages and he only replies with one: watch the movie.
On their way back to the dorm, she purposely glides her hand across his. He's being aloof. She then smacks her palm in his. He smirks and holds her hand. But when he sees a random person who's not a peer, he shakes off her hand. Yuan Qian is getting a dose of her own medicine. Laughing now, Qin Shen playfully chases after his angry girlfriend. She gives in and hugs him. They give each other a cute nose rub. With their heights, they really can't kiss each other while standing on level ground, lol.
Yuan Qian is accepted into the painting major. She's elated but there's a sense of dejection too. She's grown to love sculpture and will miss it dearly. Qin Shen comforts her that she should choose what she loves. If painting is her passion, he will support her. He also comments how she's naturally talented in sculpture as well. Yuan Qian smiles at his words. These two lovebirds proceed to nudge cheeks now.
The friends have planned a trip together at a heritage villa for a few days. Qin Shen wanted to spend it alone with her but she convinces him to hang out as a group instead because it would be weird if she didn't join her friends. On the bus ride there, Qin Shen pats his shoulder to let Yuan Qian sleep there. Shyly, she takes his offer. But when her friends mention Qin Shen's name she quickly separates from him as far as her seat can allow her to.
The girls dress up in traditional costumes. Qin Shen joins in with his own costume after seeing Yuan Qian's enthusiasm. Now I really want to see this guy in a period drama. Yuan Qian falls a bit more in love with him. The long flowy sleeves also help him hide his hands when he secretly takes her hand. He also secretly leads her astray from the group to hang out with her alone but he’s always curtailed by her friends.
Qin Shen buys Yuan Qian a hair pin that she likes but the way he grabbed the pin in his fist and pointed it at her head, it's like he's killing her.
Other cute moments. Qin Shen moves in for a kiss. Yuan Qian is shy and covers her mouth. Qin Shen smiles and bites the pastry in her hand instead. He gets up to leave with both his hands behind his back. His hand is beckoning for her take it. Cute.
Yuan Qian and Qin Shen talk on the balcony. Their resort rooms are right next to each others. She stares up lovingly at him. He asks her what she's staring at. "My boyfriend," she tells him. Their romantic moment is interrupted when Ling Wei (next room over) asks what they're doing. Girl, is it not obvious?
Ling Wei is purposely tailing them on their trip. Yuan Qian's friends suggestively tell Yuan Qian that whoever is Qin Shen's future girlfriend, she's going to have a tough time. Her friends obviously know but she thinks she's still got her hidden relationship under control. Yuan Qian also finds out that Ling Wei hasn't needed medication for a long time now. Yuan Qian realizes she's been lied to.
Yuan Qian apologizes to Qin Shen for making him cooperate with her about keeping their relationship hidden. He doesn't accept her apology. He makes her think how she can make up to him. Yuan Qian covers his eyes and kisses him. She breaks away after a peck but he pulls her back for a deeper kiss.
[Ep20] Qin Shen gives her a necklace he won from the competition. He chose a necklace over a phone. The necklace is engraved with "Eternal First Love".
Qin Shen: From first love to forever
After confronting Ling Wei about her depression and her motives for approaching her, Yuan Qian confesses to all her friends that Qin Shen is her boyfriend, "I don't like small animals. I don't care about single dogs." "Single Dogs" is a term given to those who are single. Smiling at Qin Shen, Yuan Qian takes the seat next to him. Everyone on the bus exclaims at this news. Qin Shen puts out his hand. Yuan Qian interlaces her fingers in his. She takes a picture of their hands and uploads it to her WeChat "My life's first time." Their friends scream at their cheesiness. Yuan Qian has given Qin Shen a status that he always wanted.
Now that their relationship is official, it's time to let her friends meet him as her boyfriend. Yuan Qian and Qin Shen coincidentally dress in red. He's like, I should dress formally for this. So red it is. The friends also make them take a love shot. It's like a marriage. A traditional one.
Yuan Qian wants to tell Song Si Yi about her relationship personally. She asks for Qin Shen's approval. He gives her a whole list of things she can't do with him. The last clause for Yuan Qian is for her to kiss his cheek. She jumps to peck him on the cheek.
When Song Si Yi learns she's dating, he tries his best to keep a smile on his face and wishes her happiness. However, during their meeting Qin Shen spots Song Si Yi touching her hand which clearly goes against the terms he made with her. As a result, Qin Shen ignores all her texts and calls. He goes as far as refusing to talk to her when she's right in front of him. To help out her friend, Luo Xin Xin lies to Qin Shen that Yuan Qian is really sick. He forces her to go to the hospital for a body checkup. Afterwards, she's forced to take a ton of herbal medicine. It's now Yuan Qian avoiding Qin Shen like a plague.
[Ep21] Yuan Qian realizes Qin Shen had long forgiven her about Song Si Yi so she gives him a dose of his own medicine. She pretends to be mad at him and it’s his turn to appease her. He hugs her and kisses her but we don’t get to see the kiss.
Yuan Qian is starting to regret transferring her major. She doesn’t know if she wants to leave the sculpture department. However, the sculpture department is in a crisis. Their major is to be scraped immediately. The students have to switch to graphic design.
There’s also a tiny problem in their relationship from Yuan Qian’s perspective. Qin Shen has been receiving these mysterious calls that he secretly takes. Yuan Qian decides to follow him and sees a tall curly hair ‘girl’ meeting up with him. Qin Shen met up with his senior to save the Sculpture Department. The senior is a male with long curly hair. Seeing Yuan Qian in the corner, Qin Shen smirks and holds onto his senior’s shoulder so that he doesn't turn around. The senior reminds him that although his hair is curly, he’s straight. Qin Shen is like yeah, yeah, yeah. He’s waiting for Yuan Qian to barge in and she does to her own embarrassment and to Qin Shen’s delight.
Qin Shen disappears for a few days. In those days, Yuan Qian lost all contact with him. While he’s away, she works her hardest to save the sculpture department by pulling everyone together. She's not transferring anymore. Qin Shen suddenly shows up and he’s got a way to save the department: to join a national competition to get recognition. She's happy he's back but she's seriously angry at Qin Shen this time for cutting off contact with her.
[Ep22] Qin Shen doesn’t explain properly why he was away. Yuan Qian is upset he’s not letting her into his world. Ling Wei hears news of their argument and confronts Qin Shen that he must not really like Yuan Qian if he hadn’t told her about his mother. She still thinks she has hope but that's quickly wiped out by Qin Shen. Ling Wei is emotional and takes it out on Yuan Qian. After a bit of a push and pull, Yuan Qian accidentally falls into the mud but everyone thinks Ling Wei pushed her. Qin Shen lifts her up in his arms to take her out of the mud. Ling Wei starts crying on the floor. Jia Si Cheng comforts her.
Qin Shen tells Yuan Qian about his mother (the reason why he disappeared). She’s in the hospital. His mother was always upset about Yuan Qian’s career choice and wants him to change his department but Qin Shen refused. Qin Shen didn’t want Yuan Qian to know because she’d just worry. Yuan Qian assures him that she wants to worry for him. She wants to know even more about him.
Yuan Qian wants Song Si Yi to be her sculpture model. She asks Qin Shen for his approval. He’s got another list of restrictions for her and another request. He wants to bring her to see his grandmother. She sighs how she’s always controlled by his desires. He points out that she doesn’t have to use Song Si Yi. Thus, seeing Grandma it is.
[Ep23] Qin Shen won’t let Yuan Qian be in the presence of Song Si Yi without him (Qin Shen) even if she’s with an entire group. Song Si Yi casually asks Yuan Qian if she regrets dating Qin Shen over him. Yuan Qian is about to sigh (because Qin Shen is honestly too jealous) but when she spots Qin Shen standing there like a ghost, she quickly goes overboard with her compliments of Qin Shen.
Qin Shen is accused of destroying Jia Si Cheng’s team’s sculpture. It was someone else but he fled the scene.
Qin Shen is to take Yuan Qian to see his grandmother. She’s a little nervous to sleep in the same room as him though. She cuts her hair to anticipate the meeting but the haircut is awful. Lucky for her, their plans to visit grandma is cancelled. They’re staying back to help Jia Si Cheng’s team complete their sculpture. Jia Si Cheng also gets a letter from Ling Wei to apologize for her previous behaviour. She hopes he can be the original Jia Si Cheng and find a girl he loves. With the letter, Jia Si Cheng gathers his courage and admits to everyone he destroyed the statue.
Yuan Qian and Qin Shen are on a day trip but it’s interrupted by Chen Qi Nan and Luo Xin Xin. They’re now stuck in the rural city with a typhoon. To protect Yuan Qian from the water, Qin Shen even lifts her up in his arms. I kind of don’t like this scene. Song Yi Ren looks too much like a kid. Yuan Qian and Qin Shen spend a night at a hotel. Qin Shen hints to the owner to only give them one room so the owner helps him lie to Yuan Qian that only one room is available. Luo Xin Xin tries to call Yuan Qian but Qin Shen intercepts and texts Chen Qi Nan to take care of his “daughter” (Luo Xin Xin). And so Chen Qi Nan proceeds to rap with her phone. Surprisingly, Luo Xin Xin raps back, lol. He has successfully distracted her.
Yuan Qian finishes showering and warns him to stay on his side of the bed. When the lights are out, Qin Shen hovers over her. She tells him if he makes a move on her, then he’s a dog.
Qin Shen: Woof.
Next morning, we skip to the train station. Song Si Yi is there. He’s off to another match. Yuan Qian watches him from afar, happy he’s chasing his dreams and winning a lot of championships.
Three years later. It’s graduation time. They’re graduating from the Sculpture Department. Jia Si Cheng and Qin Shen are friends now. Ling Wei and Qin Shen are also on friendlier terms. And obviously, Qin Shen and Yuan Qian are still happily in love. Theres’s one voiceover from Qin Shen: “From first love to forever”

[First Impression (Ep1-6)] Whoever is paired up with Song Yi Ren (Ireine Song) should really thank her. I think she makes her partner shine. They just all seem extra tall and extra charismatic near her. Her partner this time is Deng Chao Yuan (Aaron Deng), a new face for me. This is Song Yi Ren's second university romcom this year. The first one being The Best of You in My Mind. At the moment, I don't mind more of them from her. The ones she chooses have pretty good script and that includes this one. The relationship between our leads isn't the bickering type. Although they have their fair share of misunderstandings, they slowly grow to like each other. It's just our male lead seems to be from a different universe. He's abnormally slow. He's not frustratingly slow because he'll still be sweet to her but he hasn't quite recognized his feelings for her are love. Six episodes in and I like their chemistry; their love is also mutual. It's just a matter of asking each other out on a proper date.
[Actors/Actresses] I like Song Yi Ren. I can sense that she's trying to be calmer in this drama compared to her character in The Best of You in My Mind. I really don't want her to be a typecast for these roles though. I don't know Deng Chao Yuan but this guy seems to fit his role really well. He's that awkward good-looking guy who's genuine but aloof.

Final Review
[Review] This is a simple love story between two university students. That’s really all to this story. Watch the male lead fall in love, learn he’s in love and chase the girl he loves. I’m amazed how this drama focused on these two’s love story for twenty four episodes straight. There’s barely any second couple and side story. This also means it’s an elongated version of how these two fall in love and be a couple. It’s a pleasantly slower paced drama.
I like how the drama uses their names to create an idiom 情深缘浅 (Qing Shen Yuan Qian). Qing Shen = Emotions run deep; Yuan Qian = Fate is shallow. Qin Shen is the one with the deeper emotions and Yuan Qian is the object of his love, the fated one. Instead of fate pulling them closer, it’s Qin Shen pulling her closer to him. Even if their heights are miles away from each other’s.
Professional Single doesn’t rely on anything dramatic. It’s a sincere romcom. I do really like this but I am getting a little bored of Song Yi Ren acting these roles. I temporarily forget that though when the drama turns on the sweet. What kept me loving this drama was the male lead, Deng Chao Yuan. It’s not that he’s an amazing actor (he still needs to prove that) I just really like his serious but goofy character, Qin Shen.
