Mini Recaps

[Ep1] Tang Xue is a failed speed skater. Li Yu Bing is on his path to hockey stardom. He idolizes Xu Feng (Deng Lun's cameo) who was the previous hockey god in their university (please see the poster). The two's fateful encounter begins in the shower stalls. He doesn't know his stall-mate is a female and asks for shampoo. To hide her identity, she quietly gives him the shampoo and runs away. But she drops her student ID. Li Yu Bing recognizes her immediately and even pulls some strings so that she gets hired to be his personal helper. His revenge plan is right on track.

A ride to the past: When they were eight years old, Tang Xue would chase him around the field with a worm. He fell down and injured his face with blood oozing from under his eye. Wait, that can't be it, right? Edit: Nope there's more... continue below.

[Ep2Flashback Compilations:
  1. She threatens him to not compete with her for first place on the test otherwise her grandfather would yell at her. She promises if he were to get first she'd put caterpillars in his bag every single day. He quickly erases all the right answers on his scantron.
  2. She dresses him as a girl and kisses his nose. To this day, LYB still has nightmares that she stole his first nose kiss, ha. I guess she did sort of bully him, heh.
  3. She makes him carry his backpack when he looked like he was dying. Puberty did him well. He was so much shorter and frailer than her at 8yo
  4. (Ending bit) She gets called to the office for submitting a journal expressing how much she hates LYB because he took her first place. The teacher then shares LBY's journal that only had good words about her. Aw. He did like her. The teacher also complimented her writing this time (despite the content) but TX proudly reveals LYB had corrected everything for her. Whaa, so she made him proofread that journal of her disliking him? Aw
LYB crosses his arms and is ready to face his enemy but all his devious plans seem to crumble when TX doesn't remember him. When she does recall him she thinks they're still chummy good ol' friends. He does seem a little disappointed when it took her a while to remember him. TX is disappointed too but for a different reason. He's no longer the little boy who will listen to her every orders. It's now his turn to make her listen to his every demand and he's determined to make her university life as miserable as he can. By the way, this man, LYB is god level: he's a prodigy not only in hockey, he also got an early acceptance to university (studying astronomy?) hence he is in his second year while she's in her first. For his prodigy-ness, he sure is petty.

Although he makes her suffer, he's just hoarding all her time, lol. He gets to have lunch with her, I mean have lunch by himself and watch her work. Essentially all his revenges stem from pettiness. Fed up from all the torture, the next day TX gives him a strong head-butt and demands to quit. He tells her of course, but you're going to have to pay the contract termination fee. So quitting is out of the books at least not for a month.

He's oddly nice to her in the library and even helps with her studies. As they sit next to each other, he casually comments on the familiar smell of her shampoo (he's teasing her about the shower incident). She's highly suspicious of his attitude change so am I. And she is rightfully so. He's threatening to reveal the shower incident if she doesn't cooperate. I guess he'll be keeping her for another month.

[Ep3] You'd think she'd feel threatened by the shower incident but she's found a way to get the upper-hand because he, the ice god of the university, has more to lose if he were to reveal she showered with a regular girl like her. He takes the bait. He's no match for her when it comes to petty revenge. Among campus rumors it's him that is begging her to love him. TX also sells the rights to prepare the Ice-God his breakfast. Her cousin (Zhou Ran) happily pays to take her job. TX is getting double income for this.

Love triangle alert: He's Yu Yan, a national gold medalist in men's figure skating. The two men, YY and LBY compete against who can twirl better. Beats me why a hockey-god needs to compete against a figure skater in twirling... For the title of "ice-god"? For Tang Xue? Probably for the latter. I don't know why anyone should feel upset or victorious to have a hockey player lose against a GOLD medalist figure skater in figure skating...

It’s lunch time. LBY sees her "stealing" YY's food so he rushes over and stands up for YY against the big bad bully, ha. Here I thought he was rushing over because he felt jealous. YY is like the younger version of LBY, the sweet innocent boy listening to her every order.

Flashback: The young TX is admiring LYB's piano skills

[Ep4] TX's friends get embroiled into a roller blade contest with the university’s reputation at stake. TX takes the responsibility onto herself and challenges the opponent to a contest of speed. The loser has to run naked. Hearing this, LYB walks in (with cool music) and takes the challenge for her. But she doesn't need his heroism. She's confident in her speed, and she's rightly so because she wins. Li Yu Bing is impressed, while Yu Yan falls more in love.

A note on LYB's jealousy: he steals a sip of her juice box that YY gave her.

Flashback: She steals his favourite sticker.

[Ep5] After the victory, there's a dinner celebration. LYB shows up late and invites himself to sit between TX and YY. Except there's no room. That's not a problem for LYB, he'll just make room. He lifts the seated TX and her chair in order to squeeze in his own chair. Shrimps are served and he wants her to unshell them for him. It's like an auction, he keeps raising the price per shrimp until she's so fed up she pulls him outside to talk. He tells her that he doesn't want her to be with bully YY. Heh. Regardless, he still wants her to unshell the shrimps and so she finally agrees to 100RMB/shrimp. She stuffs 70 shrimps in his mouth.

They play a game and the loser has to choose truth or dare. He makes her lose and asks her why she quit skating. She refuses to answer so she drinks instead. After a night of drinking they each take their bikes back to their dorms. Drunk TX offers a drunk YY a ride. Bad idea. As she rides over a bump they both fly off the bike. LYB's buddy takes YY, and LYB, of course, cares for TX. He picks her up from the ground, makes her stand, and throws her on his back. He walks all the way back to her dorm only she's too drunk to tell him the passcode to her phone so he takes her to a motel. She's about to tell him the reason she quit skating, he closes in to listen in case he can't hear her, but you knew it was coming, she pukes on him. I like how he's a clean freak as he tidies up her stuff before he leaves. TX wakes up the next morning having no idea who cared for her, she only knows it can't be LYB.

Love Square Alert: Zhang Yue Wei, the speed skating team captain, She beats TX in speed skating when TX was just casually skating in the beginning. Still, TX is upset for losing. TX will probably have more to be upset about in the near future as she seems to be LYB's close friend. LYB heard of TX's loss and rubs it in. He also tells her from now on she will be his personal trainer.

Flashback: LYB's first time skating: He didn't like the idea of it at first but he loved it after seeing people fall. The kid's missing teeth are so cute.

[Ep6] Although LYB calls her his personal trainer, it's him that's training her. Aw. She, of course, doesn't know this and only thinks of it as torture as she's counting down the number of days left of their contract. Finally, the last day arrives, and she gives him a farewell present. They're insects. But LYB can actually touch them now. She's trained him well. Too well. You see, he's got a trick up his sleeve as well. He's counter suing her for intrusion of privacy and selling rights to her breakfast duty. She now has a heavy fine to pay. Furious, she walks into the men's change room and creates a fuss. The way she's wording things, his teammates think he's dumped her. He just dumped a ton of debt on her. I did some basic calculation, she'll need to work for at least a year and a half to clear her debt.

An angry TX tries to throw him over her shoulder just like she did when they were younger, but things have changed.
They're obviously fighting. What else can it be?
TX ends up stuck in his embrace and he won't let go until she begs him.

FlashbackShe uses his hockey stick to reach something on the tree. He begs her not to because it's an expensive stick. Annoyed, she throws him over her shoulder. To get revenge on her he buys her a spider stuff animal but to his dismay she loves it.
[Ep7] TX kindly brings YY to marine land, which was a wish that was never fulfilled in his childhood. He's quite the lonely kid. She also celebrates his birthday giving him a sheep stuffy as a present because that's what he looks like. If anyone has read or is reading Skip Beat, I want one too. His lovely date with her ends when LYB wants her to run his errands. However, rain starts pouring and TX becomes a damsel in distress. With much deliberation, he realizes he wants to be nice to her but he's too late because YY is already there with an umbrella. Is being rained on that big of a deal, I mean, she didn't have to sit there. The next morning, TX gets a fever and LYB feels reaaallly bad. From then on, he helps her take class attendance and notes (very diligently). However, his reputation is at pit bottom so whatever he does means nothing to her. She just wants to cut all ties with him. With YY's money, she clears all her debt with LYB ending their relationship.
Zhou Ran, TX's cousin, accidentally-purposely rips TX's dress and the hero, LYB, comes in with an amazing cape move swishing her under his jacket. She's fallen for him? A bit? After she's tightly in his jacket, he takes a peek at her dress and comments on it's ugliness. Why'd you have to peek in the first place? Tsk. When LYB is outside away from TX, he contemplates on why he protected her shaking his head at the thought of liking her.

Love pentagon alert: He's Bian Cheng. TX's first love.

Flashbacks:
  1. They skate together for the first time. (Oddly) She keeps falling and he snickers at her. That snicker is so cute!
  2. (Ending bit) LYB was bullied but TX bullies the bullies and takes LYB's money instead.
[Ep8] LYB gives TX a proper and fair termination contract this time and returns her the money. He wants to end their relationship as employer and employee. He also gives her a ticket to attend his team's last hockey competition. Her friends think it's weird how he's suddenly so nice. She's taken aback at the idea of him liking her. But he dooooes. At the hockey match, LYB is always looking towards the empty seat of where TX should be. When he's being taunted by his opponent, he imagines the young TX at his back giving him support. But no need to imagine anymore, she's actually there to cheer for him. But TX sees her first love: Bian Cheng.

LYB realizes her first love is Bian Cheng, not only that, he's also the reason she gave up speed skating. She was heartbroken when BC rejected her in high school and because of that she slid into her demise, suffering an injury that forced her to give up speed skating for the rest of her life. She doesn't hate BC for it, but rather herself for being weak. To comfort the sulky TX, LYB is concentrating really hard on his hands on whether or not to hold her. In the end he chickens out.

Flashback: They're on a school trip and each student will be rewarded when they guide the tourists around the museum. Tang Xue is exceptional meanwhile Li Yu Bing shies away in the corner. Seeing this, TX quickly goes to his side and cheers him on, giving the young YLB courage. Aw.

[Ep9] LYB and TX are still at the field and she compliments that it was his courage that allowed his team to win the match. She doesn't know that his courage had actually stemmed from her (hence that flashback in Episode 8).

Now it's her turn in need of some support: she fails her tryout for the school's speed skating team. To lift her spirits, LYB takes her to karaoke. She sings awfully terrible but she doesn't know it and LYB is too nice to tell her otherwise. Or she's to dense to know realize LYB was dissing her. That night LYB pulls some strings and the next day TX gets another chance at speed skating. However, Yue Wei, the speed captain team leader, doesn't seem pleased to have her join.

Meanwhile Bian Cheng and Zhou Ran are having a date of their own. It's not a romantic one, they each have their motive and are both so superficial to each other. He wants TX and she wants LBY. I think these two are more perfect for each other. She encourages him to pursue her but he doesn't know if he has the right to. Turns out he liked TX too back in high school but he chose to focus on his university application over romance. He also knew that his rejection had a huge role in her career-ending injury. Off topic, where's my flashback?

[Ep10] The hockey coach and speed skating coach were married before. Foreshadowing much? Edit: I didn't mean foreshadowing the divorced part.
These two (TX and Yue Wei) battle it out with stretching. Yue Wei doesn't like her because her crush, LYB, is being pretty obvious about liking TX.
This above is the sacrifice LYB is going through to get the tickets TX wants but it all goes to waste when she's already gotten it from YY.
These two are best (girl)friends turning into lovers. I'm not actually too into these two. I sort of skip over their scenes.
[Ep11] These two (YY and LYB) are fighting over Tang Xue. YY has declared he likes TX to LYB. LYB's response is a hand slam against a poster and then a cute face kiss. He hasn't yet admitted he likes her but all his actions scream it.

LYB is waiting for TX outside her dorms to ask if she could send him off to his training (he'll be gone for a month). But she's still practicing on the ice. YY was helping her relax and almost sneaks a kiss to her cheek if not for LYB's squeaky desperate cry. Unfortunate for YY that he didn't get to kiss her. Fortunately, someone else does.
LYB slips on the ice knocking her skates. This sends her forward planting her entire body on his including her lips. His hands are also on her chest. Once they get out of that awkward position, LYB cries that he lost his first kiss and runs away. Poor TX, LYB didn't even know he touched her chests. I wonder if they're filming on real ice because that kissing scene would be incredibly dangerous to film. That night they're both replaying the scene. LYB can't contain that smile of his and dreams only sweet dreams (of her falling like an angel from the sky to kiss him).
She can't even look him straight after the kiss
The next morning he calls TX to remind her to send him off. Since she promised to be there, she will be there and runs to meet him. She even brought him breakfast. Aw. He asks her if she has anything to say to him and even I don't recall what she's actually saying because she's mumbling and stuttering the entire time. She's trying her best not to focus on his lips or his eyes. Him as well but I think he wants to focus on them. Seeing her stuttering makes him giddy. Seeing him smile makes me giddy. He gives her a last reminder: don't you dare fall in love.
[Ep12] Xia Meng Huan treats Liao Zhen Yu to coffee to thank him for all his work in helping her set up the animal shelter. She asks him how tall he is to which he honestly replies. She corrects him that today he is at least 1.9m. Awwwww. Their conversation changes to TX's boyfriend candidates. She's team Yu Yan and he's team Li Yu Bing. They sign an empty contract that allows the winner to write down anything s/he wants done.

It's the hockey match and Tang Xue's eyes are glued onto the television completely neglecting Yu Yan who's sitting right in front of her. YY doesn't know which miniature figure on TV is LYB but TX has immediately located him right from the entrance. LYB is good at everything except he has one fatal flaw: zero teamwork. Because LYB didn't pass the puck the team lost the match. TX is trying to send him a text but she can't settle on whether to yell at him or comfort him. There's a ton of Ashes of Love scenes in the background (also during the karaoke scene). The directors really are proud of that drama. I just want to say didn't Deng Lun make a cameo in the first episode so now that he's on the TV, he's both an ex-ice god and a godly actor?

[Ep13] Everyone's got a pitch on LYB's play but he is only waiting for one person's thoughts: Tang Xue's. She mails him a picture of their first project together to remind him to play for the team. Check flashback below. Only her message truly gets through to him. The coach's encouragement was commendable but he can't be compared to his one and only love. Sorry, coach. LYB calls her to thank her for the present and promises her he'll do his best. She asks if it's snowing on his side and he runs out to show her without a care in the world for a jacket. On her side he sees the bright and smiling LYB and wonders why it looks so warm there. That warmth is inside your heart, honey. It's so cold his phone dies. Still, he's smiling. A day later, the competition is won and he's won over his teammates too. Before he leaves the city, he buys a snowflake necklace for, you guessed it, Tang Xue. However, he doesn't have a chance to give it yet because she's super busy preparing for a talent show to display her awful singing to make up for her school credit. Therefore YY and LYB are recruited to help her with much support from Xia Meng Huan and Liao Zhen Yu respectively. The name of their team is Bing Yu Xue's Song. It's a mash of their names which I love. If you translate the character "Yu" from Yu Yan  to mean "and"  then the meaning of their group name changes to "Bing and Xue". Hee. Sorry Yu Yan!

I also want to take a special moment to applaud Xia Meng Huan as a bestie. She’s stabbed hard(!) by a needle from Tang Xue and she can still laugh it off. I’d be scared of needles from henceforth and hold a (little) grudge on TX forever.

Flashbacks:
  1. TX and LYB are in charge of decorating the classroom chalkboard. LYB wants to work on his own but he doesn't have a creative idea. He finally learns to rely on his teammate TX and that's his first taste of teamwork. That's when he first thought that she actually had some merit.
  2. TX admires LYB playing the piano (this is a continuation from when she was punished by her teacher for writing a hate journal on him). That's probably when she thought LYB had some merits too.
[Ep14] Performance day. Tang Xue shows up all pretty and LYB isn't used to it. Her beauty stuns him to silence. Her friends are such supporters and each bring earplugs to brace for the worst. Except it sounds pretty decent. Although LYB doesn't say any pretty words to cheer her up, he does everything else to ensure her success. He'd give her personal rehearses to fix her pitch note by note. I really liked hearing his singing voice when she performed, even though it was short. Even though it may have not been their actual voices singing. I never thought Zhang Xin Cheng was handsome. Don't get me wrong he's very good looking but not what I call handsome. When he was helping her rehearse, his acting was so natural. So charming. Him smiling made me smile too..

**By the way, the song they performed is call 冰天雪地 which translates to "the ice covers the sky and the snow covers the ground". The pinyin is Bing Tian Xue Di. It's also another mix of their names: Li Yu Bing and Tang Xue. So you can also take it to mean LYB is the sky and TX is the ground. A perfect match.

Despite doing well, they still lose to ZR (who I think deserves the win). TX isn't upset because she enjoyed the process more than the result. After the show, the three of them walk together; TX's zipper gets stuck. The sweet YY helps her out. The jealous LYB puts his jacket over her head to interrupt them. He tells her to keep the jacket because it's cold. Instead TX sweetly gives him back his jacket and even puts it on for him. It surprises both men. Turns out she saw Zhou Ran from a mile and is putting on a couple show with LYB to make her jealous. ZR also has one trick up her sleeve as she informs TX that Bian Cheng will be at the high school reunion tonight. Both men seem to worry about TX with YY telling her she doesn't need to go but LYB tells her to go otherwise she'd look bad. I loooooove how LYB doesn't say the nice fake words (sorry YY). He says what she needs to hear just as she did for him when he lost the hockey match.

Team LYB's Liao Zhen Yu is smart for once. During the dinner, he's recording TX's every move for LYB. When the classmates talk about all her past LYB regrets choosing a different high school and missing those six years with her.

After dinner's over, LYB shows up very timely to save her from Bian Cheng. He even packed her a snack because he knew she barely ate. Sweet. I'm a little disappointed with the OSTs for this drama. His bike entrance was great but it didn't have that swoon-y OST to match it with.

Meanwhile I'm waiting for these two (ZR and BC) to realize they're perfect for each other.

[Ep15] Three major updates: YY's mom hates TX (but TX is no weakling to be bullied around); LYB relies on an app to make TX fall in love with him but the romantic LYB bores her to death; Liao Zhen Yu pees on Xia Meng Huan's foot.

Flashback: She drags him to go on an adventure with him. I assume they get lost and that's when LYB is tearfully looking at the sky to find the North Star to guide them home.

[Ep16Flashback compilation:
  1. Continued from previous episode: They're lost and hungry. A kind lady gives them food and comments if they're family. They're not. She changes the compliment to them being family in the future. LYB disagrees which earns a rightful stare by TX and so he obediently agrees.
  2. He purposefully gives her expired candy hoping she'd get a stomach ache. She's immediately in pain and he's secretly happy until he learns she just lost her tooth.
LYB is such a genius but such a romantic fool. He borrows a coat from the ship operator and everyone thinks its for TX, even TX herself. But it's for himself. To look weak. Uh. Aight. Somehow someway LYB falls into the cold water because of TX and so she takes responsibility of him for the night. It's actually not that romantic. He fakes a fever and has to take medication and drink all the water that he dipped his thermometer in which was originally in his armpit. Ew. They're pretty much allergic to romantic. When he's about to say something sweet, she sneezes at his face. The sweetest thing they did that night was her feeding him candy. Still, when they return to school both of them reminisce on their new (not-so-)sweet memories they now share.

The ones who do get fruitfully romantic are Xia Meng Huan and Liao Zhen Yu. Peeing on her foot worked like a charm.

There's another really sweet thing LYB did that I really liked. In the cafeteria, he aims for the perfect time to switch a new drink for her and then causally walks away sipping her almost empty one.

[Ep17] LYB lights up an entire park. Where? How? With what money? He enjoys a nice imaginary moment of them dancing flirtatiously in the lights. It's a special confession day for men and this is what LYB had prepared for TX. TX though is a very popular girl. She also receives two other surprise confessions. However, all of them bring her extremely bad luck. First Bian Cheng (who received a kind reminder from Zhou Ran) gives her a public confession during class which gets her in trouble with her super strict professor. YY confesses (but she doesn't truly understand it) by throwing confetti in the room she just cleaned, heh. Lastly LYB comes to give her the surprise but she fears the idea of another surprise and runs away for her life.

[Ep18] Next morning, she runs to his dorm asking him to be her personal trainer. Not only that, he offers himself to be her personal tutor. Except he has a really hard time concentrating whenever she's too close. Still, he is the perfect one who can help her with anything.

This whole time, I've neglected YY. He's completely out of the picture in terms of love rivalry to LYB. I can't say he was even a formidable one to begin with. He's got all the ingredients for a melodrama recipe that I unfortunately don't care about. He has an evil mom and is heartbroken but the main character of his love story is oblivious.

[Ep19] LYB continues to be perfect for her. When she loses he'll be right there to comfort her. Although she doesn't get a medal, he personalizes one for her: the snowflake necklace. He's also been secretly paying for her club fee. When she's obviously uncomfortable at the dinner party, he heroically bails her out. When she falls asleep on his shoulder he holds up her head very carefully to not wake her; when one hand is tired out, he uses the other hand. No sane girl can withstand that. TX starts wondering whether she likes him. However, another obstacle blooms: a very doting dad.

[Ep20] It's so funny how jealous LYB can get. Just seeing her standing with her first love he'll accelerate his skates as if he's running 100m race on ice. Later, LYB and TX visit their elementary school and dig up their time capsule. He finds his which says: I wish that my seating partner, Tang Xue, will disappear. LOL, as expected. Afraid she'll see his note, he swallows his message. Meanwhile her wish is for LYB to always get zero on his tests.
After their mini trip to the past, LYB promises her he won't be separated from her hereafter. She makes him finger stamp. Aw. He meant it romantically but I don't think she got it. They walk home and she "casually" asks him why hasn't he dated when he's so popular. He casually tells her he has a crush. Unsettled at losing out, she tells him she also has a crush. At night, both of them ruminate over who each other's crushes are and both call Liao Zhen Yu to confirm. LZY is having a ton of fun (I would too), especially when TX admits to him she likes LYB (!).

Flashback: When TX chased him with a worm and he fell down and cut his face, TX's mom had promised LYB's mom that if the scar remains permanent, she'd give her daughter to him as a wife (as a joke). Heh. LYB mumbles on the side: "Am I able to refuse?" Obviously, not.

[Ep21] The confession episode. LYB was right about to confess with the beautiful lighting and fireworks but Liao Zhen Yu, the cupid, interrupts. I thought this whole confession was going to drag hereon after but...
LYB shouts: Tang Xue, I like you!
He opens his arms for her to go into but she grabs his collar instead for him to hug her. Confession check. Dad uncheck. Daddy doesn't like LYB because he knew that LYB had lied about going to the same high school together with her. TX finally learns that the young LYB was always afraid of her. Awww it was Dad who made up the lie that his parents divorced so his daughter wouldn't be sad her best friend never liked her.

It's not just LYB confessing this episode. With Dad being an obstacle for LYB, Bian Cheng takes his chance. It's another grand confession.

[Ep22] However, TX rejects Bian Cheng's confession. Zhou Ran comforts him and she's reminded of her past with TX. ZR's childhood is just like LYB's, heh. TX's oblivion has bullied these two so much, haha.
TX finally forgives LYB as he gives her a manly hug and promises he'll never lie to her ever again.
TX also displays her manly charms as she makes lets him rest on her shoulders. There was another hilarious moment when she rushes in to give prayers to this certain goddess not knowing the goddess rules over birth and fertility. LYB stands awkwardly at the side.

The cliffhanger for this episode: LYB kidnaps her dinosaur stuffy. The ransom is Tang Xue herself. He wants a date with her on New Years Eve.

Flashback: LYB gives her the spider present, which is still in her room to this day. His mom jokingly reprimands him that he'll probably be a bachelor for the rest of his life (on a funny note, this episode his mom thinks he's gay, heh).

[Ep23For the past episode, these two have been wearing couple shirts. I've also noticed that Li Yu Bing has a hoodie in every colour. LYB comments how it's their first New Years Eve together to which TX replies it's not. They celebrated in their childhood as well. She tells him she wants to spend every year of this day together. Touched, he kisses her. And he wants another. But it's interrupted by his parents who have stalked him all the way to his date. They were worried their son was dating a guy. Now that they know, they're delighted at whoever his girlfriend is. It's not quite the same with TX's father who's still hating on LYB.

Something else that made me smile: LYB using his brains to get TX to sit beside him on the bus.

Flashback: They're celebrating New Years together. She tells him let's celebrate it every year together to which LYB doesn't reply. See the stark difference to the LYB today.

[Ep24] At the campsite LYB and TX sneak off to spend some alone time.
LYB closes in on her: Why do you like me?
Without thinking, TX immediately replies: "Cause I'm blind.
LYB sulks: What do you mean?
TX: But I don't want to treat it (the blindness)
LYB and TX are keeping their relationship a secret. LYB had saved TX's contact as "Xiao Tang Kuai" which literally means "small sugar bit" or less literally "small sweet candy". But now he has to change it to a random number. This secrecy is suffocating them so much he finds a super secretive place to date. Except the coaches are like the FBI and almost catches them. TX manages to flee but LYB is still under suspicion. Zhang Yue Wei coincidentally saves him by telling the coaches she asked to meet here so she can reject his confession. I guess this is the end for ZYW's unrequited love.

My question for this episode: Why is YY's confession such a big deal? But anyways LYB's jealously makes him short circuit and now everyone knows they're dating. LYB and TX are expecting the sky to fall but the coaches wishes their love the best.

[Ep25] YY is so disconnected from everyone else in this drama that his current devastation is completely unrelatable. He just found out that LYB and TX are dating and because of that news he lost the competition. He's very much like the TX when she was rejected by BC.

Meanwhile TX is keeping her distance to LYB because she wants to be of equal standing with her boyfriend. Hearing this, her best friend, Xia Meng Huan examines her own relationship with Lian Zhen Yu. She feels selfish for hogging his time because he's always revolving around her. LZY isn't a bad catch at all. A doctor boyfriend who adores you to pieces.
[Ep26] In the middle of a big match where the press and LYB fans surround the arena, LYB points his pink hockey stick to one person in the crowd. Time stops.
LYB to TX: Remember our promise, I will win.
TX in a high, high pitch voice: Champion! You are my champion! I really wasn't expecting that reaction, ha. Our Tang Zhu is so unpredictable.
As expected, he wins. She runs to meet him and he grabs her, lifts up one of her leg and kisses her on the ice. He gets his victory kiss the way he wants it. The crowd is ecstatic. It's also driving the manager mad, ha. I'm also happy that Wei Wei is smiling at their show of love. There's just YY left...

[Ep27I absolutely hate the overuse of the song: Pu Shu "Ordinary Road". I LOVE this song. Every time I listen to it, I'm in love with it. I swear my heartbeat quiets down just so I can listen to this masterpiece. However, it's frequent appearance in this drama makes me so annoyed. It's not a masterpiece that the drama can casually throw around like this whenever they want. I get the message of this song perfectly matches the theme of this episode but stop playing it over and over again. It's bothering me so much I'm barely paying attention to the dialogue. Anyways what is happening this episode: dad is ferocious for various reasons. He's upset at his daughter being in speed skating. He's upset at her daughter's boyfriend being in hockey. However neither TX and LYB want to give up their dream and dad seems to give in (just a little).

There's another regular meet up between Bian Cheng and Zhou Ran as they scheme to separate our love birds. When they talk about their common enemies, BC made ZR realize she doesn't truly love LYB, she's more obsessed with TX. This little meeting is caught by LYB's buddy. Alas all of BC's evil thoughts are made known to everyone, even Tang Xue. He loses everything in a single moment. Maybe except Zhou Ran. His personality is taking such a dark turn that I'm not sure I still want to support him and Zhou Ran. ZR is a little evil too but I understand her jealously and she hasn't done anything worth hating that's completely at her own will.

[Ep28] LYB has an emotional hurdle to get over. TX's dad's words keep echoing in his brain. He's scared that as per Dad's words he would be injured because of his hockey career. It's not himself he's worried about though, he's worried that TX might be the one to suffer the most to see him injured. Xia Meng Huan also has a hurdle of her own. She almost broke up with Liao Zhen Yu but luckily he remains resilient making her love him even more.
[Ep29] TX sees through LYB's emotional snag. With a forehead kiss, all his problems whisk away.  LYB is looking more and more like the female lead in this drama. The ones with the serious problems are YY and Wei Wei. YY is the same old: depressed. Wei Wei re-injures her ankle. I admit, I teared up a little for her. On a happier note, TX wins her first gold medal and more importantly, her dad's approval.
LYB celebrates her win with a light show he prepared for her. Ahh, that idea didn't go to a waste after all. He said he prepared it for a long time. How long? Since the day he started liking her. Lies. He liked her way before that. In return, she gives him her gold medal. Well, she already has the gold medal he gave her (the snowflake necklace).
[Ep30] This is an episode that rounds up all the other side (side) characters:

1) The nerd and the goalie finally meet offline and they're horrified. All their beautiful imaginations of each other shatter in an instant.

2) Zhou Ran matures in a flash. She stands up for TX when other students make fun of her clothes. She also withdraws from Bian Cheng's schemes.

3) Wei Wei makes me tear up again. Not only is she not nominated for the national team (TX is) but the only memoir of her grandmother's breaks (because of TX). Any other drama would turn Wei Wei evil in an instant but not here. I appreciate it, show. Wei Wei forgives TX and is all smiles the next day. Good things happen to good people and Wei Wei receives her nomination as well.

4) LYB tries to use his connections to help Jiang Shi Jia (the long hair buddy) make it to the national hockey team too.

[Ep31] LYB seems to be digging his own grave when it comes to TX's dad. LYB had flagged an article for spreading fake news and it happens to be Dad's newspaper company. It finally struck me why Dad appreciates honesty so much more than an average person. He works for a newspaper company. Duh. Dad gets penalized for approving the fake news but he's not angry at LYB, instead he admires LYB's honesty. Dad finally approves of TX's boyfriend. I laughed at the scene where TX was so strict with LYB not allowing him to sit. Dad was embarrassed for his own daughter, heh.

[Ep32] TX is about to leave to train for the national team. Her farewell gift is a puzzle of  "冰糖炖雪梨" (Bing Tang Dun Xue Li). My best English translation is: Rock Sugar and Pear Dessert. Their sugary love was rock solid but YY's depression takes TX's priority. LYB misunderstands which only brings about a super cute pouting scene from him (where he asks for a peck on each cheek and the lips). Additionally, another one of TX"s pursuers is creating another obstacle for our sweet pair: Bian Cheng. It's always her pursuers who are problematic.

[Ep33] TX neglects LYB for YY again. LYB has one last piece to finish the puzzle but TX is nowhere to be seen since he started the puzzle. Despite being angry, when she mans up and tells him "I like you this much, and it's such a small matter, can't you just forgive me" he thaws immediately. TX really is the male lead. However, his last straw was when he catches her secretly visiting YY behind his back. And so, this is the break up episode. The angry LYB breaks the puzzle. To retaliate against his mistrust, TX throws her snowflake necklace back at him. YY apparently thinks right now is the best time to confess. He tells her she brought colour to his black and white world. At least he tells her he's okay now and she should go.

[Ep34] While TX is out of love, Wei Wei learns she's always been loved. Meanwhile the rest of the episode takes a dramatic turn: LYB is beaten up. He thought TX was in danger and went to save her but it was all a trap to get him injured before his hockey match. Still he manages to pull through and give his team a win. Dramaland. After the win, blood trickles down his ears. However, he doesn't want TX to know. He says it's because they broke up but it's more like he doesn't want her to worry, especially now that she's at the national training centre.

[Ep35YY! You did it, you finally made me smile again. YY clarifies his relationship with LYB. When that doesn't seem to motivate LYB, YY tells him, "well, now's my chance to go for TX." That does it. LYB finally calls her. Unfortunately, it's not all smooth sailing from here. There's something wrong with LYB's hands.

[Ep36] Deng Lun makes a cameo again. As the ex-ice god, he motivates the current ice god. You see, LYB has lost a ton of hockey matches and is super down. It's a team game, I honestly don't understand why he has to shoulder all the blame.

A ton of LYB hate articles/comments are posted. TX's friends have his back though. It's an incredulous scene of Ye Liu Ying (the nerd) fighting hate comments with her guqin keyboard.

The nerd and the goalie commence their shy relationship. Another happy news: TX and Wei Wei make it into the team. Now brace yourself for the bad news: LYB faints over. It's an after effect from the concussion he had suffered.

[Ep37] The surgery is successful but LYB hasn't woken up yet. TX is at his bedside and discovers his diary that's all about her. Crying, she tells him she won't wait too long for him so he better open his eyes. She tells him about her marriage plans and how she wants to have two children. Their names will be Dan Dan (egg egg) and Er Dan Dan (second egg egg). Hearing those awful names, he wakes up and complains to his entire family TX wants to name their children after eggs. Heh. Nah he woke up after she talked about their marriage plans. Remember how TX's mom promised LYB's mom that if LYB had suffered a scar she'd make her daughter marry him? Well I bet LYB definitely has a scar from being beaten up when he was trying to save TX. Except she doesn't need anyone to force her. TX wants to marry him and have his children. She even prayed to a fertility goddess before. She had planned all this xD

[Ep38] LYB waking up is not the solution to all problems. He's still got one big ol' one: his recovery process. While everyone is taking a step towards their dreams, he's stuck behind them unable to move.

[Ep39] TX even considered sacrificing her admission to the nationals because to her supporting LYB is more important. However that only makes LYB hate himself more. TX tells him she's knows exactly what he's going through because she's been there and yet she has successfully achieved what she has now. She's the perfect role model for him. However, he shakes her hand off to take his lonely path.
The hockey stick moment but this time it's TX holding it ("You are my champion")
YY seems to be returning the favour of what TX has done for him by cheering up LYB. Why YY can do it but not TX beats me but I like that it gives a chance for YY to be useful in this drama. With YY's words, he realizes what's important: the present him and the people with him presently. He's back to the lovable Bing Bing who TX is used to. His one request for TX is for her to accept her national's admission.

YY wins his tournament and gives a touching speech to the person he loves. LYB freaks out thinking he's confessing to his girlfriend again, but nope it's his mom. Ha.
[Ep40] After YY helped LYB, now it's Bian Cheng's turn. BC releases the audio recording revealing who had beaten up LYB. In turn, BC is also beaten up for it. But, hey, I guess it's worth it, he's gained friends (and a future girlfriend) along the way. Mission successful. Both TX and LYB have made each other's pursuers their friends. Perfect score.
TX and LYB finally finish their puzzle, "Bing Tang Dun Xue Li" (the Chinese title of the drama)
Two years later, LYB is back on the ice as the ice god. His welcome ceremony was pretty cool. But it can't end without his signature pink hockey stick routine. He points to TX and the crowd erupts: Bing Tang! Bing Tang! Bing Tang! etc.

Every other couple you can imagine gets their happy ending too. It's not all just romantic though, dreams also come true. The end.

Remarks

[First Impression (Ep1-4)] Ahh a pure campus rom-com. I really don't want to say it but I have high expectations for this. I'll be so sad if it doesn't live up to it. Li Yu Bing is your classical male lead who likes the girl but can't accept his feelings and has this petty revenge instead. Tang Xue is not one to be easily bullied and he learns it the hard way. Off topic, is 40 episodes really necessary?
[Title] The transliteration of the Chinese title is Rock Sugar and Pear Dessert. I might be butchering the translation. The Chinese title is a way better title because it's a mashup of the main leads' names. Unfortunate that it's lost in translation. The PinYin for the title is "Bing Tang Dun Xue Li". Hopefully, you can see the main leads' names in there. Isn't it sweet how their names are mishmash in the Chinese title? Crossing my fingers hoping the leads will be just as sweet if not sweeter.

[Episode 22 Update] Watching this gives me the urge to rewatch Love O2O. Both dramas drip honey. They're the love stories of the perfect couples. Now that Li Yu Bing and Tang Xue are together, I'm a little worried for the next dozen episodes. What am I supposed to anticipate? Hmmmmm.

[Review] It's a perfect ending. Everyone is happy. This is a fluff drama through and through. I wished I had binge watched this so I can easily skip over the parts I didn't care about. Essentially I had zero interest for every single side character. If this drama had ended by Episode 22, I would have easily ranked this much higher. I don't even want to talk about how disappointed I am with the OSTs. First time an OST choice has hindered me from liking a drama (see my rant in Episode 27).

This drama does very well in tying a perfect knot everywhere. Each of the main characters get their fair share of hardships and dream come true moments. It started off with Tang Xue's path to recovery, after that’s done it’s Yu Yan’s turn and after that’s done it’s Li Yu Bing's turn. Everyone also gets a perfect happy ending with a partner they love. The only problem is it's too linear and too perfect... Tang Xue and Li Yu Bing has achieved everything possible: perfection in love, friendship, and career. That's hard to relate to even if it’s only a drama.

Wu Qian and Zhang Xin Cheng carried the drama but I think the production crew failed them of a hit drama. This crew also created Ashes of Love, which I never finished. I gave that drama two chances and I dropped it twice. My personal opinion: this production crew is overrated. The pacing was poor especially in the latter half. They relied way too much on their starry cast. Forty episodes were unnecessary. I really wanted to like this more given how much I had enjoyed it in the beginning. Pity. It could have been better. I'm not saying it's not worth watching. Wu Qian and Zhang Xin Cheng still created a couple to remember: our Bing Bing is the princess to our Tang Zhu.

[Verdict] It is a deceivingly delicious-looking candy that is bland with aftertaste. However, as a Cdrama fan I wouldn't miss this; it is one of the milestone idol-romance dramas of the year purely because of the leads and only because of the leads.

Rating2/5
