Things are still sailing smoothly. I feel like I'm just waiting for that storm to hit me anytime now.
On a side note, I recently checked out Li Jia Yin’s/Ivelyn Lee (Guan Xiao Tong) profile and she’s born in 1983. This girl is 32 years old… BUT! The real shocker is she’s actually one year older than Danson Tang… My brain cannot absorb this fact.
Ji Jia Wei sends Guan Xiao Tong home but he doesn't let her go that easily; he stops her from unbuckling her seat belt, trapping her in the car. Then they exchange some corny dialogues.
Jia Wei: Why don’t
you get jealous even one bit?
Xiao Tong: I was speaking
as your psychologist, not your…
Jia Wei cocks his
head: My what?
Are we
not passed this stage yet?
Sadly, Xiao Tong ends his game and gets out of the car.
Before she leaves, he throws her the keychain she gifted him
before and attached onto it is his house key. Ah, is that what the keychain was for all along?
He tells her to come over for breakfast tomorrow. She refuses but the other
option was to come over at night. Breakfast it is.
Jia Wei seriously considers Xiao Tong’s advice and meets up
with Zhi Yu. He’s surprised that Zhi Yu’s already patiently waiting for him at their rendezvous
point; if she wasn’t late, she’d never be early. She tells him she now
understands that there may not be someone willing to wait for her now if she
wasn’t early. They change their setting to a restaurant because Zhi Yu was
blabbering about their past (e.g. when they first met Polo) in that particular
park.
In the restaurant, Jia Wei gets straight to the point: their relationship should end
properly now. He’s only here to clarify why she left suddenly without a proper
farewell. Zhi Yu doesn’t explain any of it. Jia Wei still thinks she ran away
after he proposed to her. I
don’t get why she doesn’t just tell him the truth to keep him. We don’t always
have to save the best for last…
Although she knows Jia Wei’s completely indifferent about her now, she’s
still insistent on the question she asked him before: How were you the past
year?
Jia Wei: The past
doesn’t matter. Right now though, it’s quite alright.
It’s obvious that Guan Xiao Tong is the reason behind it.
Not only that, Jia Wei’s calm composure towards Zhi Yu is the best indicator
that he no longer has lingering feelings for her. The relationship between him and
Zhi Yu is at most friends as they shake their hands – Jia Wei's proper farewell.
Oh man. Why make her so pitiful? Her story's sad. After the car
accident, her whole body needed reconstruction, including her face. She did try
to call Jia Wei once during her rehabilitation but she had absolutely no
confidence in herself. And yet, the show made her completely
recover in less than a year. She was even able to return to her model career... However, now that she’s completely recovered, everything’s too
late. (The golden question is asked by Du Kai Wen (Xiao Tong’s ex-boyfriend):
Why didn’t she just tell him the truth? Her answer: it wouldn’t matter; he didn’t
love her; she didn’t want pity.)
Meanwhile, at the bar, Jia Wei’s buddies are happy that he
met with Zhi Yu and resolved their issues like normal civilians. They’re also impressed
with the effect Xiao Tong has on Jia Wei. Shao Qiang, being the only single guy
in the club, doesn’t go unnoticed by Simon as he decides to hook him up with
Xin Xin (Xiao Tong’s best buddy). While
Jia Wei’s on the other end staring at his (half) carrot key chain. Jia Wei declares he needs to go home now because he needs to await for the next sunrise. Aw. And yet the guy that’s married (Simon) is probably
the last one to leave, lol.
Its 5 a.m. and Jia Wei is wide awake. He’s waiting eagerly for
breakfast at 5 a.m. (They were supposed to meet at 7 a.m…) Since he's awake, he might as well practice how to greet her coolly. But that all goes to waste..
Being two minutes late, Xiao Tong gets the glare from a grumpy Jia Wei in a standing sleeping bag. Still, he’s glowing inside.
She’s brought all the ingredients she needed but warily
warns him that her taste in food may differ from his and his taste in food can
differ from hers. Basically, she’s a bad cook. In the end, Jia Wei’s teaches
her (with his arms crossed and leaning comfortably on the counter). Complaining
that she’s taking too long, he holds her from behind to help her cut the pepper. Unlike before, Xiao Tong’s enjoying it much more with that smile
beaming right across her face.
He suddenly yelps. Xiao Tong's worried that he cut himself.
Wanting to examining his hand, she goes to grab it.
But he grabs her hand instead.
And happily tells her he lied.
He pulls her in for a hug.
Stares into her eyes.
To tell her he’ll cook instead. That’s it?
Now it’s Xiao Tong’s turn to sit around and do nothing. Literally.
He even has to carry her to move her away from the table space he needs.
During breakfast, he suddenly gets a call from his friend, Ah
Da (the one that got married in the other episode), and dashes to the hospital.
Turns out Ah Da’s wife was diagnosed with cancer and refuses chemotherapy
because it may be teratogenic. Coincidentally, Zhi Yu’s also there. While Xiao
Tong is alone, without any updates from Jia Wei.
Back at the hospital, Zhi Yu and Jia Wei are still
accompanying their friends; Zhi Yu even cancels work. This leaves Jia Wei surprised
once again because work always came first for her. Zhi Yu reveals she’s come to
understand there are more important things than work. The two continue their
normal discourse but Zhi Yu particularly enjoys reminiscing their past and how
they met in a similar situation at the hospital. Meanwhile, Guan Xiao Tong
overhears everything right outside the wide open door.
She leaves disheartened, carrying
the food she prepared for Jia Wei. First, she decides to throw the food away
but thinking what a waste it would be, she decides to eat it alone. However,
eating alone seems even lonelier. She finally opts to treating herself to a big feast because she deserves it.
Learning from his buddies that Xiao Tong stopped by at the
hospital, Jia Wei’s desperate to find her. When he finally meets up with
her, he (playfully) complains she didn’t wait for him to eat. It’s donning on
her now that Jia Wei didn’t eat with Zhi Yu. When probed further for why she disappeared
at the hospital, Xiao Tong finally reveals her insecurities about Zhi Yu. Jia
Wei’s glowing at her spurt of jealousy.
Squeezing her cheeks Jia Wei asks: Do I have to ask question
by question for you to answer?
He assures her that his calm composure towards Zhi Yu should
tell her that he’s over Zhi Yu. He makes her promise that she can’t hide
anything from him from now on. Basically, he needs to know her every thought.
The next day, Ah Da's wife is planning to switch from the hospital
room to a normal ward, claiming it didn’t matter where she’d rest. In
reality, it was too expensive. Knowing this, Jia Wei promises to pay it for
them. However, the fees were already cleared by Zhi Yu. What a cowinky-dink.
However, Jia Wei doesn’t reflect her happiness with all these coincidences and
conversational chances. Zhi Yu insists she just wants to talk with him like they
were friends but Jia Wei’s not keen on that. He's not the type to look back when he’s already moved
forward.
Chugging along on our petty romance now. He needs to go on business trip.
In other words, he needs to be away from Xiao Tong for a few days. His buddies
see though his worries about the business trip and reason that their love will
only “level up” with this temporary separation. Simon guarantees it; he even
describes “leveling up” with the use of elevators and baseball. And baseball…
At Jia Wei’s home, while he’s busily working, Xiao Tong’s
playing with Polo. He snatches her attention by making an abrupt noise with the
book he spontaneously decides to drop from midair.
Xiao Tong: What
is it?
Jia Wei: Aren’t
you a psychologist? Must you make me say it outright to you? Can’t you –
Xiao Tong
finishes off the sentence: understand that I’m thinking?
She continues telling him not to worry about her during his
business trip but he denies that and claims he’s only worrying about Polo.
After a few seconds of saying that, he shows his jealousy of his own dog as he
takes Xiao Tong away from Polo. Apparently he needs her help in holding up
paper. He says she’s just the right (short) height to be his book stand. After
a while of ducking behind the papers, Xiao Tong catches on Jia Wei’s motive and
purposely hides her face. Jia Wei’s obviously displeased. That doesn’t last
long though because Xiao Tong deluges him with love: She stares lovingly at Jia
Wei. Jia Wei is stunned at her candour but doesn’t miss this opportunity. He
thinks he might as well give up on the business trip as he messes with her
cheeks.
He holds her hand.
Closing that gap…
Arf, arf!
Polo’s invited himself back in the picture now, which leaves
Xiao Tong worried about who’s taking care of Polo when he’s gone. Jia Wei deviously
solves the problem: Xiao Tong should just stay at his place for the entirety of
his trip. ‘Cause you know, Polo can’t live anywhere except at Jia Wei’s. Completely understandable.
The “level up” business trip takes place and Jia Wei has
just recently come to know that they’ve arrived early. He’s pissed (because one
more day with Xiao Tong mattered that much). However, it was all his demands
from the beginning (before he met Xiao Tong) that their trips should have more
lax than cramp... And of course, Zhi Yu just had to be there for a photoshoot.
Back with Xiao Tong at Jia Wei’s place, she’s on an
expedition of his home. She spots his collection of books and stops at
the culinary ones; the one on Italian spaghetti particularly interests her. Inside
she finds all sorts of sticky notes on her favourite dish. Busted. Jia Wei's learning how to make her favourite dish at an expert level.
Alone in the hotel room, he wonders how Xiao Tong’s doing.
Right at this time, Xiao Tong sends him a photo message of her and Polo. The
key point is that she’s on his bed. He think she’s taunting him on purpose.
Xiao Tong texts
him: How’s work?
Jia Wei replies:
It’s okay. But if I can’t sleep well here tonight, I might just rush back and
sleep where you’re lying on right now.
Xiao Tong: If you
can’t sleep just go look at the ocean. Polo and I want to see the ocean too.
Jia Wei talks to
himself: I really should have just brought her here (in his luggage).
Xiao Tong would
be talking to herself too if Polo wasn’t there: Polo, do you feel the same as
me? When he’s not here time passes super slow.
Jia Wei calls
her: Are you still on lying my bed?
Xiao Tong lies
nervously: No
Jia Wei: Why are
you nervous? The room is all yours. You can do whatever you want. And…today, I
saw Zhi Yu. I wasn’t going to tell you because I thought you’d be worried but
since we promised we won’t hide anything from each other I decided to tell you.
You’re not worried are you?
Xiao Tong: No..no.
Jia Wei tells her to put her hand on her head and pat
herself twice.
She questions but she listens.
As she’s patting her head, Jia Wei tells her: Don’t worry. I’ll return quickly. When I’m not
there I’ll leave Xiao Tong with you. I truly find this whole corny.
Xiao Tong: Ji Jia
Wei. I think I miss you a little.
He’s speechless.

Comment:
That carrot keychain wasn’t the prettiest thing but now I
understand its true meaning: a key chain for a house key. It’s only been a week
since they’ve been dating and he’s already giving his house key to her… Their
fast progress actually worries me because it spells dread for the future
episodes, and there’s 13 of them too.
Zhi Yu’s finally getting her long awaited
screen time, which I believe has kicked out Zhi Yan’s screen time, lol. I hate
neither of them. If anything, I find Zi Yan boring. While the actress for Zhi
Yu brings her character some justice. I pity the poor girl and she’s still
strong and cool about losing the love of her life. However, the plots stinks. I
don’t understand why Jia Wei and Zhi Yu lost contact for a year. Why not file a
missing person’s report? Was there no one
that could have notified Jia Wei of Zhi Yu’s car accident? Also, Zhi Yu should have been able to trust
Jia Wei’s “undying” love for her (back then). However, that’s probably the show’s
reason for her losing Jia Wei: her lack of trust in him (on top of her lack of confidence).
Honestly, how many almost-kisses have we had? Show, either stop teasing us or you better deliver the grandest of all first kisses in all of drama history.
