Mini Recaps

[Ep1] A thousand years ago on Flower Island, a Dragon Demon selfishly wanted Xiao Man (a tree spirit) to be his. She was already in love with a human general Mu Yuan. The Dragon Demon thwarts their love and pierces Mu Yuan with a sword. Mu Yuan stabs him back with a dagger. The men fall off a cliff. Xiao Man breaks her barrier. Should have done that sooner. She expends her energy so that Mu Yuan can be reincarnated. “If we have a next life, remember to marry me.” She rises to heaven.
A thousand years later. They’re reincarnated. Hua Yi Nan (= Mu Yuan) wants to marry Lu Yue'er (= Xiao Man).  By the way, her sneeze was so cute. He’s the lord of the island, respected by everyone, meanwhile she has the reputation of a cursed monster, feared by everyone. (It’s because of her unknown terminal disease). So why would he want to marry her? He says he’s in love with her. But that's a lie. If he can choose, he would never marry someone who’s about to die. But he can’t choose because his father’s will outlines that only in marrying her, can he inherit the military seal. He needs it to protect the island from pirates.

For some reason, Lu Yue'er is particularly against marrying Hua Yi Nan. She rejected him 36 times already in two months. Confessing every other day, eh. Even when she has to marry an old man, older than her father, she won’t ask him for help. Even when her house and store deeds are sold off, she won’t beg him for help. She’d rather work all day and all night to pay off her debts. Her tenacity and her diligence seems to have charmed him.
Lu Yue'er suspects it’s Hua Yi Nan who made her stepmother lose their house/store deeds. She’s combing his room for evidence, but he catches her. In what pose? Our favourite bidong, of course!
[Ep2] Lucky for Hua Yi Nan, Lu Yue'er doesn’t suspect him (when he is the one who made her family lose their house). And good thing he didn’t say anything about his motives in marrying her. By the way, they’re still in a bidong. He will release her if she admits he ‘moved’ her heart last night. She admits it. In his reaction, I can see his heart doing double flips, lol. With her hands, she illustrates how her heart literally jumped out of her chest (because of fear). Haha. But he doesn’t get it. A heart moving is a heart moving! Exasperated, she hits her own forehead. “I can’t communicate with you.”
Hua Yi Nan sends Lu Yue'er home in a carriage. She rejects him again because she wants to live her last days peacefully, but with him, she can’t be at peace. And then their carriage is jostled. Whoops. They kiss! It was Du Ruo (Lu Yue'er’s cousin and admirer) who knocked the carriage with his unruly donkey. Hua Yi Nan is angry that his first kiss is stolen and bitterly remembers the date today. As for Lu Yue'er, her chronically frail heart is actually beating vigorously. She clutches her chest to calm herself. She can’t even walk properly. When he makes her heart erratic like that, of course she can’t be at peace while living with him
Lu Yue'er is fascinated that Hua Yi Nan heard her heartbeat. It was that loud?! Lol. Her reaction threw me off. She’s curious and attempts again as she slowly moves towards him. He’s flustered and thinks she’s initiating another kiss. He puckers his lips, but she dodges to the left to give him a hug. Her heart rate is regular. Does that mean it has to be a kiss? She tries again and puckers her lip, but then he dodges to the right, thinking she wanted another hug. Hahaha. She tries again! This time, he tells her not to move. He’ll move. She obediently nods, eager to confirm the result. As he’s closing in, the rate of her heart accelerates. But then they’re interrupted.
By the donkey! And Du Ruo! He’s very grumpy and orders Lu Yue'er to leave with him. She obeys.

Lu Yue'er visits her mother’s grave and asks why her heart was pounding for Hua Yi Nan. He’s right there, listening and probing, “You still won’t admit you love me?” Then he pulls her in for another kiss. Their past memories are evoked! But not quite. Although they can’t remember, the tree does and their bodies do. The barren tree is blossoming. Her heart is galloping. He is crying. She instinctively wipes his tear, and then realizes the peculiarity in her actions.

However, Lu Yue'er still rejects Hua Yi Nan. She would rather he focus on protecting the island instead of revolving around her. That is what he’s doing! Moreover, she’ll be leaving the island soon to find a physician who could possibly cure her. That night, Hua Yi Nan couldn’t sleep. He wonders for what purpose he wants to marry Lu Yue'er. For the island’s safety, or... Love!

The next morning, Lu Yue'er’s father coughs up blood.

[Ep3] Lu Yue'er asks Hua Yi Nan for help. He’s a keener and hires the best physician. While she’s caring for her father, he’s staring at her. He doesn’t understand why his heart aches for her. It’s as if he owes her in his past life! He assures her that she can always lean on him for support. Then he takes her up to the roof to comfort her. She, however, reiterates that she won’t marry me. #100 rejection? They’re of a different class. She also doesn’t want to burden him with her death. It’s more painful for the one who’s living. She does, however, candidly express her gratitude for his generosity.
Hua Yi Nan’s older sister (Hua Yu Man) is disapproving of Lu Yue'er, but the brother declares: “Even if she rejects me, I will protect her!” Lu Yue'er is moved. Gu Xin Zhu (lackey) gives his master an approving thumbs up for his swoony comment

Hua Yi Nan wants what’s best for Lu Yue'er and lets her leave to the capital city to treat her disease. Even if the pirates will be attacking and even if it’s just by himself, he will protect the island. He sends her off and watches longingly. Gu Xin Zhu asks if Hua Yi Nan actually fell in love with Lu Yue'er. The master is in denial.

But he can’t be in denial when Lu Yue'er is in danger. She and Su Tang are abducted by pirates.   They make him choose which of the girls is his real fiancée. Su Tang is a decent girl. She actually protected Lu Yue'er by admitting she’s the real fiancée. The real one gets to leave, and the fake one will have to stay. When the blade cuts Lu Yue'er, Hua Yi Nan is visibly and audibly more concerned. He attacks the pirate, and frees the girls. They both drop to the ground and he saves Lu Yue'er first.

Du Ruo arrives to help but Lu Yue'er tells him to save Su Tang first. Su Tang resists him. Her heart is chilled from Hua Yi Nan’s neglect. Du Ruo makes her faint to carry her out. He promises to be back for Lu Yue'er.
Hua Yi Nan protects Lu Yue'er, but because of that distraction, a pirate slashes him from behind. She's devastated. Her heart is throbbing in pain for him. She crawls towards him with all her might and jumps on top of him to take the fatal hit. Boom! From afar, the tree has fully awakened. Then a stream of light emits from Lu Yue'er’s body, which repels the pirates.

[Ep4] Lu Yue'er is recovering.

Hua Yi Nan: If there’s danger, you’re not allowed to block it for me.
Lu Yue'er: If I say it, you might not believe me, but it was my body that was out of control. I just jumped forward.

Hua Yi Nan is tickled pink. He had no idea her love for him was that deep. LOL. I guess that’s true too. He promises he won’t forsaken her.
Lu Yue'er slaps Hua Yi Nan! It’s because he admitted to poisoning her father. But! The poison is actually therapeutic. He was totally asking for the slap. There’s an order to how you explain things. She apologizes and reaches out to touch his reddened face. She wants to repay him and so she decides to stay. He’s surprised. Why! What about the doctor? She cutely counters, If I leave, then we can’t marry. The realization that she’s finally accepting him makes him ecstatic. He spins her round and round and round.

In the palace, Prince Song Yan (= Dragon Demon reincarnation) is back in the palace. He has an admirer. It's Princess Man Hua. He doesn’t seem to care much for her.
Marriage! Du Ruo tries to steal the bride. Everyone thinks it’s a marriage rite (to display how precious the bride is). Poor guy is confessing his true feelings and yet no one is taking him seriously.
Wedding night~

[Ep5] Lu Yue'er’s heart is roaring as Hua Yi Nan ever so tenderly kisses her. Very tender! But then she gently pushes him away, explaining that she’s on her period. He smiles. He’s understanding and will wait for her when she’s ready. He also gives her a gold phoenix hairpin. It’s from his late mother. As he’s sharing his childhood story, it’s lulling her to sleep, Ha. He calls her “heartless and lungless”. A Chinese saying that means simple-minded

Father Hua’s will also stipulates that all the money is to be managed by Lu Yue'er. It’s to prevent Hua Yi Nan from divorcing Lu Yue'er. Can I see this father? LOL. So curious.

Lu Yue'er doesn’t have her period. It’s an excuse. She heard that consummation is a “heart-tearing, lung-splitting” pain. Hahaha. She does have a heart and lungs! In fact, she's very careful about her organs, lol. At night, she drinks some liquor to inflate her courage, but now she’s drunk and visualizes her husband’s lips as sausages. Yum. She jumps him and bites him. Next, she thinks he’s a little flower. His surname is “flower”. She tries to jump him again, but he runs away, and round and round they go. Exhausted, he gives up and lets her attack him on the bed, but she falls asleep.

Lu Yue'er lets her best friend (Xiao Yi) have the golden phoenix hairpin, not knowing it was from Hua Yi Nan's mother. He’s angered and asks if she even loves him. Lu Yue'er, who’s unnecessarily truthful, shakes her head. LOL. This confuses him. She risked her life to save him, didn’t she? Lu Yue'er explains again that it was her body jumping out. (Not her.) Lol. He marches off and drinks alone with a seething anger with nowhere to vent. Su Tang joins him. Lu Yue'er sees them and misunderstands.
The next day, Lu Yue'er knows how to fix everything! First, she calls Hua Yi Nan as ‘Xiao Hua Hua’ (Little Flower), which instantly cheers him up. He’s that easy, eh. Ah, but wait there’s more! She offers to have Su Tang as his concubine. And look at his smile instantly turning upside down. She quickly makes amendments that she can be the concubine instead. She assures him that she doesn’t care. Pft. Hua Yi Nan yells, “You have no heart!” Lu Yue'er is offended. Just how petty is her husband to not understand how considerate she is already! She counters: “Your heart is smaller than the eye of the needle!”

Finally, the (heartless) Lu Yue'er learns that the hairpin belonged to his mother. But it’s too late. Her petty husband is not returning to her room anymore.

[Ep6] Nanny Jiang trains Lu Yue'er to be a proper Madam of the manor. First: chopstick etiquette. There are 15 don’ts: hesitating, dirtying, pointing, slanting, stealing, connecting, sticking, inhaling, crying., etc.. Ha. It’s funny how a few of these actually make sense. Others. Uh. Lu Yue'er’s little brain struggles to remember anything, but she motivates herself for Hua Yi Nan’s sake. She doesn’t want to disappoint him. And he hears all of that ~

Hua Yi Nan may be mad, but his love is true. He has a team of physicians researching a cure for Lu Yue'er. When she’s sleeping, he’d secretly visit her. He tells her it doesn’t matter if she loves him. Her wellness is more important. Lu Yue'er stirs and wakes. She jumps up when she realizes it’s not a dream. She apologizes to him about the hairpin. Well. He’s not angry because of the hairpin. He’s hurt because she doesn’t love him. “Forget it. Just count it as I owe you.” Even if her heart doesn’t hold him, his heart misses her, and his mind is full of her. He will wait until she returns his love. He gets up to leave, but she pulls him back. She’s about to tell him that she perhaps loves him too, but he notices the paper cuts all over her hand. This reminds her that she folded him Mandarin ducks (which means a happily married couple).
Hua Yi Nan notices Lu Yue'er is still calling him “Lord”. He wants to hear “Husband” from her and if she messes up, then there’s a punishment awaiting her. Our faint-hearted Lu Yue'er is scared. With his index finger, he beckons her forward. Nervously, she approaches him. Her eyes follow his finger...
...and then he takes her in for a surprise kiss. So cute

Hua Yu Man (sister) awkwardly confronts Lu Yue'er if she was a virgin prior to marrying Hua Yi Nan because there’s no blood on their bed. (A nanny has been snooping every morning.) The girls arrive at a conclusion that Hua Yi Nan needs to be seduced. The sister teaches Lu Yue'er the recipe to her braised lamb with ginseng to replenish her brother's yang energy. The sister always made it for her late husband. Omgsh. That must be why he died at such a young age...xD
Lu Yue'er is so eager to feed Hua Yi Nan that he’s choking. Is she trying to murder him? I ask that too, lol. And then he takes his murderer her on his lap. Timidly, she continues to feed him. But then Su Tang enters the room to report work related matters. When Su Tang and Hua Yi Nan's hands accidentally touch, Lu Yue'er’s heart clenches a little.

Seduction #2. Lu Yue'er puts on her Latina moves, but her ribbon entangles them both and now she’s toppled over Hua Yi Nan. She tries to untangle herself and is moving down and down and – omg, gotta stop there. He will untangle them. After that embarrassment, he laughs and gives her a few points for her effort. He also notices that she’s jealous (because of Su Tang) and assures her there’s no need to seduce him. His eyes only have her. Lu Yue'er is seduced by her husband. But wait, she’s supposed to seduce him! Quickly, she calls him “Lord”. He doesn’t get it. She calls him “Lord” again and again and again. He gets it! He kisses her. Awww so every time she calls him lord, it will mean she wants a kiss! That’s so cute

His nose bleeds, though. Too much of that yang energy. She freaks out from that blood and wakes the entire manor. The sister reprimands Lu Yue'er for exaggerating the condition. But then she secretly asks her younger brother if she needs to find a doctor for him. To fix up his yang energy.

The father’s will has more conditions! If anyone wants to withdraw money, Lu Yue'er has to sign and approve of it.

[Ep7] Hua Yi Nan’s advisor suggests to fool Lu Yue'er into signing an agreement to forfeit her management over the finance before his sister finds out. Hua Yi Nan rips it. Phew. But it is necessary that he hides Lu Yue'er’s identity from his sister. Hua Yu Man bears a hatred for Yun Wan Xi, Lu Yue'er’s mother. The siblings believed their father loved Yun Wan Xi and that their mother died from heartbreak. Aww and Hua Yi Nan fell in love with Lu Yue'er while knowing this. But then again she has no fault in this

Hua Yi Nan doesn’t know how to cook. He throws oil to put out the fire. Omg. Lu Yue'er jumps in front of him to protect him. He reminds her not to do that again. But this time it’s different! She swears that it wasn’t her body that was uncontrollable, she was afraid he’d be hurt. Awwww. She did it out of love.
Hua Yi Nan caresses Lu Yue'er’s cheeks in public. The servants giggle and cover their eyes. Lu Yue'er is timid. She swears she didn’t call him “Lord” this time. He smiles and inches closer. Her eyelids are down and her lips are puckered, but Hua Yi Nan is just teasing ~

Prince Song Yan’s mother died from poison. The Empress is hiding something from him, but Princess Man Hua knows. He pressures her and she coughs up the truth (that she knows). His mother was poisoned by Yun Wan Xi (Lu Yue'er’s mother!). But apparently she was framed. The mastermind is Hua Jian Shan (Hua Yi Nan’s father?).

The imperial food inspector has arrived on the island. It’s Du Ruo! Presumably, he passed his chef exams with flying colours and now he’s back on the island with prestige. Hua Yu Nan needs to give him his due respect.

[Ep8] Du Rou tells Lu Yue'er that her mother was a founder of Hua Jian Ge (the main restaurant on the island) along with Hua Yi Nan’s father, but her name was crossed out as if she was a criminal. Du Rou suspects Hua Yi Nan had ulterior motives in marrying Lu Yue'er. She’s skeptical, though. Hua Yi Nan treats her well, but she is curious about her mother. Now she wants to work in the restaurant.

Prince Song Yan discovers that Hua Jian Shan had an alibi of some sort and cannot be the murderer. So who could the Emperor be protecting?
Hua Yi Nan is super jealous that Lu Yue'er spent a whole evening with Du Rou. She, on the other hand, finds his jealousy super cute. She gives him a candy kiss because her mother said sweetness makes people happy. She’s so adorable, omg. She’s smacking her lips, and asking whether it was sweet. Then embarrassment overcomes her and she’s hiding her face in her hands. His answer to her question is a deeper kiss. He needed another taste to tell her it’s kind of sweet. Super sweet! But then the mood is ruined when she asks to work in the kitchen. She pouts when he coldly rejects her.

Lu Yue'er sneaks out to take the chef exam. She lies that she’s Li Yun Yue. She aces the practical test, but there’s also an interview. She heard that they disqualify married women and so in front of Hua Yi Nan, she lies that she’s not married. He’s incredulous. “You have no husband?! How can you not have a husband?!” He also doesn’t expose her to avoid embarrassing her. Amused, Do Rou explains it must be because having a husband and not having a husband is no different. Lu Yue'er further clarifies that her husband died. LOL. Died from talking too much apparently. Du Rou and Su Tang are laughing.

[Ep9] With Du Rou on the judging panel, Lu Yue'er gets to pass with her dish ‘Crispy Lotus Stem with Honey’. Recipe: sandwich the meat with sliced lotus root, dip it in honey, dip it in cornstarch, fry it. If you like spicy, it’s good with chilli too. Afterwards, Lu Yue'er bumps into her husband. Ah, but Hua Yi Nan reminds her that her husband died from incessant talking. Ha. She swears she heard rumours that they only hire maidens (which Hua Yi Nan denies).

Du Rou permits Lu Yue'er to live at home when all the new recruits are supposed to live in dorms. This is enough to fuel rumours that Lu Yue'er and Du Rou are married and they have children. The gossip has reached Hua Yi Nan’s ears and he punishes the rumourmongers.

Lu Yue'er sneaks into the library at the restaurant (what’s a library doing at a restaurant) to search for information about her mother. Hua Yi Nan visits her there (since he has his men keeping tabs on her). She catches him admiring him through the shelves and then he catches her in a bidong. He wants a kiss, but she’s afraid of rumours. To make it up, she kisses her own finger and presses it to his lips. Then she asks about the mini-chamber. She wants to see it. Hua Yi Nan teases her. He won’t give her what she wants. He prefers being out here in a bidong, having a tryst. Lu Yue'er surprises him with what he wants: a kiss. And then she drags him to the mini-chamber to continue their tryst there. Dazed, Hua Yi Nan nods and follows.

It’s the first time in a long time that Hua Yi Nan has been in the mini-chamber. He finds a hidden shelf and in the centre is the recipe book by Yun Wan Xi. Lu Yue'er is happy to find proof of her mother’s existence, but Hua Yi Nan has just confirmed the book his father cherishes was from her mother. He tells Lu Yue'er that his father never cared about him and his sister. He was always in his chamber. The one time he sneaked in and ate this dessert was the happiest memory he had with his father.
Lu Yue'er makes ‘Chrysanthemum Tea Jelly with Wolfberry’. She was able to make it because of the book she found in the library titled “Yi Nan’s desserts”. She believes that his father loved him too with his own method. Love isn’t always expressed openly. Perhaps the love that is kept within is actually deeper. So deep that both siblings can’t even feel it. She tells him his father loves him. She adds that she loves him too. He gently caresses her cheek and confirms that she just admitted she loved him. Hua Yi Nan whispers softly, “I finally waited for you.” They kiss.

[Ep10] Hua Yi Nan gently carries Lu Yue'er to bed. She’s nervous. “Husband, I don’t really understand.” So innocent, wow. It’s okay. He does! She asks curiously, “You understand?” LOL. His smile is a little mischievous as he replies that he knows a bit. He kisses her lightly, but Lu Yue'er has tachycardia and faints. She wasn’t kidding about heart tearing and lung splitting pain. The doctor says her days are numbered and it’s better to refrain from any intimacy. Hua Yi Nan is desolate. Just when she returns his love, she has to leave him. He stays up all night to look at her. When Lu Yue'er wakes up, she screams. There’s a monster! No, it’s Hua Yi Nan with red eyes and dark eye bags. And a creepy stare, ha

Hua Yi Nan tells Du Rou the truth about Lu Yue'er’s health. Lu Yue'er overhears.

Meanwhile Lu Yue'er is still washing dishes at night. It’s not time for that! Hua Yi Nan lifts her up and kisses her. Now that’s right! The other maids witness the kiss. They think it’s an affair (since they don’t know she s Lu Yue'er, the wife). The steward even writes a letter to Lu Yue'er to inform her of a Li Yun Yue who’s seducing her husband.

The maids are mocking Su Tang for being shunned by Hua Yi Nan. Du Rou silences the maids. Su Tang’s eyes glitter at him for protecting her.

[Ep11] Lu Yue’er tells Hua Yi Nan the first time they met was when he was washed up from the shores. She gave him mouth-to-mouth! But Du Rou stopped her and so he kissed Hua Yi Nan. Which means Hua Yi Nan’s first kiss is with Du Rou! Haha. But actually, that first meeting was also Hua Yi Nan’s scheme.
Hua Yi Nan develops a high fever. It’s because during nights he'd watch her sleep and during the days, he’d be seeking for new treatments for her. He’s shivering at night and so Lu Yu’er hugs him to sleep. *Thump Thump*. It’s her heart beating loudly at his proximity. Her hands pull him closer. He's hot and feverish, and moves closer to her too. In the heat, they kiss. He gulps. Wow. This is sensual and in slow-mo. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Their hands intelace. He kisses her forehead. His hand pushes into hers. The tree blossoms!

Hua Yi Nan wakes up in the morning. He’s panicking. The fever must have fried his brain. Thankfully, Lu Yue’er is fine. He tells her he likes the birthmark on her back. It looks like a tree.  But shortly after, she faints! The doctors pronounce her dead. The passion killed her...lol. Hua Yi Nan cries the whole night. This actor needs to control his crying face...xD. The next morning, Lu Yue’er gasps. Her lungs are filled. She’s awake! Her nightmare woke her up. In it, there was another woman kissing Hua Yi Nan. (It’s her own memory of her past).  The doctors exclaim it’s a miracle that Lu Yue’er came back from the dead and has completely recovered.

Hua Yu Man (sister) may have found out Lu Yue’er is Yun Wan Xi’s daughter. Will Hua Yi Nan be able to lie out of this?

[Ep12] Hua Yi Nan doesn’t lie. He admits to his sister that Lu Yue’er is Yu Wan Xi’s daughter. The sister demands him to divorce, but he refuses, and so she threatens him to have Lu Yue'er disclaim the inheritance or she’ll tell Lu Yue’er that she was scammed into marrying him.

Lu Yue’er feels like puking. 🤰??

It’s Caiqing Festival. The boys give girls flower bracelets. Su Tang receives zero. Du Rou cheers her up and takes her out. He even gives her a bracelet. He tells her to not misunderstand. He doesn’t want others gossiping about her bare wrists while they shop around. Certain parts of the festival remind them of their unrequited love. Su Tang offers to make a pinky promise to forget everything that broke their heart. He wraps his pinky around hers. He has decided. Tomorrow he will find the most beautiful and refined woman! Su Tang rolls her eyes.

Hua Yi Nan and Lu Yue’er are on a beautiful date night too. I like how Hua Yi Nan and Lu Yue’Er spend their festival behind a folding screen with only their silhouette visible. However, he fools her into signing the agreement, which she thought was her written wish for the lantern. He regrets it but he did it.
[Ep13] Hua Yi Nan is showering in the bathtub. He thinks the adversity is over since his sister promised to not threaten him anymore. Lu Yue’er brings in clothes for him, obviously shy. He teasingly asks her to pour him some more water. She’s still not glancing at him and so he asks her to scrub his back. She obeys, but she’s giving him one mean abrasive scrub. And she’s only focusing on the front. He’s had enough. He lifts her into the tub while kissing her. They spin and kiss, and spin and kiss, and spin and kiss. Oh, and more spinning.

Hua Yi Nan is looking pale and sick. He’s also getting nosebleeds. Too much spinning, dude! But no seriously, why is he having health issues too??

Prince Song Yan arrives on Flower Island. The good thing is that he indirectly fires Lu Yu Zhen, the obnoxious step sister of Lu Yue’er. The bad thing is he’s here to take revenge on Hua Yi Nan’s family. Then he recognizes Lu Yue’er who looks like the girl in his painting. He can tell Lu Yue’er is Hua Yi Nan’s weakness. As he investigates her too, he finds out about her mother (who is also involved in the poisoning).

[Ep14] Lu Yu Zhen tries to seduce Song Yan, but seduces a reputable monk instead. Hua Yu Man orders floggings for Lu Yu Zhen. Lu Yue’er is fired by association. Even when she’s fired, she’s still bullied. And so Hua Yi Nan reveals she’s his wife. Shock.

Lu Yue’er visits her mother’s grave. Song Yan arrives on the precipice as well and sees her leaning over the cliff. He pulls her into his arms. She slaps him but then apologizes when she realizes he was trying to help. She grimaces as she tells him he can slap her back. He smiles. He even fetches her hairpin, which she was trying to pick up from the crevice. She asks him to tell her more about her mother, but Song Yan lies that he forgot....only to tell her the next day. He could have just said it on the same day. According to Song Yan, the person who framed her mother is Hua Yi Nan’s mother because she was jealous of Yun Wan Xi.

Meanwhile Hua Yi Nan had followed Lu Yue’er on her ‘date’ with Song Yan.

[Ep15] Lu Yue’er ignores Hua Yi Nan. She doesn’t know how to face him yet. How is she so sure Song Yan said the truth? Then she finds out Hua Yi Nan fooled her into signing the agreement to forfeit her right to his assets. Hua Yu Man also sets a trap for Lu Yue’er to learn why Hua Yi Man married her. She’s heartbroken and refuses to see him.

Song Yan recovers his Dragon Demon memories. His powers haven’t recovered (yet).

[Ep16] Hua Yi Nan spits blood – the sign of death! It's the same condition as Lu Yue’er. But Lu Yue’er did not spit blood. I guess blood spitting is reserved for MLs. Despite Lu Yue’er’s contempt towards the Hua Family, she asks Song Yan if he knows how to treat Hua Yi Nan’s terminal disease. Song Yan and his lackey (Ghost Doctor Nan Ze) have another agenda. They were planning to kill Hua Yi Nan but they discover the Qiye Puluo (which Song Yan needs to recover his powers) is split into two entities; one in Hua Yi Nan, and the other in Lu Yue’er. The only way to restore it is for the two of them to make love.

[Ep17] Ghost Doctor Nan Ze tells Lu Yue’er the only way to save Hua Yi Nan is to have sex with him. And so Lu Yue’er asks Hua Yi Nan to meet by the blossom tree. Hua Yi Man admits to Lu Yue’er there were lies in his pursuit of her, but his heart truly belonged to her. He promises to never lie to her, and slowly, Lu Yue’er kisses him. She wants to cure him. But she also tells herself to not believe in him.
The tree blossoms as they make love. Is the tree fully awake yet? A spiritual energy emits from the tree and transfers Lu Yue’er’s tree birthmark into Hua Yi Nan’s chest.

Scene cuts are all over the place for this episode! Do we just jump from the scene where they make love to her walking on the streets?

Song Yan kidnaps Lu Yue’er and tells her they’re both demons. He wants the Qiye Puluo because Lu Yue’er used it to seal his powers. Ghost Doctor Nan Ze returns with an orb and reports of Hua Yi Man’s death. Lu Yue’er is desolate. She takes the Qiye Puluo and commits suicide. But Hua Yi Nan is alive! Both Hua Yi Nan and Song Yan run after Lu Yue’er who’s falling off the cliff. A cliff you say? The Ghost Doctor Nan Ze zaps Song Yan away. Hua Yi Nan jumps down to save her. As they’re both falling, Lu Yue’er’s memories return. She closes her eyes. “Mu Yuan, Qiye Puluo will protect you.” The tree blossoms some more. Hua Yi Nan is pulled back upwards. He survives. Lu Yue’er has ‘died’ by falling off a “cliff”. Even so Hua Yi Nan believes Lu Yue’er can return, and he still takes care of her family.

[Ep18] Two years later, Song Yan and Lu Yue’er have returned to the Flower Island. However, Lu Yue’er is now Tang Ying Ying with a vastly different personality. She’s working for Song Yan to arouse Hua Yi Man’s interest. Once her mission is complete, Song Yan promises to make her his consort. And apparently she doesn’t have her memories. Oh, and she has a shadow that looks like a tree.

[Ep19] Tang Ying Ying is Lu Yue’er but Song Yan sealed her memories and is deceiving her to fool Hua Yi Nan that she is Lu Yue'er (when she is Lu Yue’er...).

At night, Hua Yi Nan goes to Tang Ying Ying's room to confirm if she has a tree birthmark on her back. She thinks he’s a pervert and takes out the knife she hid under her pillow. He tries to explain that he just wants to “look”. Yeah, not helping. But she does gain his trust. The timing of Tang Ying Ying's amnesia precisely matches Lu Yue’er’s cliff fall.

Nanny Jiang wants to reveal the truth (about Song Yan and Mother Hua), but she keeps missing her timing.

[Ep20] Tang Ying Ying gets to work in the restaurant. She has a mission from Song Yan to search for a golden phoenix pouch. However, the frequency of her pain have increased. Her pills to control the pain are losing efficacy. They’re more like pills to control her memories. At this moment, Hua Yi Nan sees Tang Ying Ying’s shadow that looks like a tree.
[Ep21] There are heart throbbing moments between Hua Yi Nan and Tang Ying Ying. When the carriage shakes, it pushes them closer (like in Ep2). She wishes she could be Lu Yue’er to be loved by Hua Yi Nan. Then when she dresses in Lu Yue’er’s clothes, he can’t help but hug her. Tang Ying Ying pushes him away because she’s not Lu Yue’er. Oh lordie

Nanny Jiang is killed by Song Yan’s men.

[Ep22] The pouch that Song Yan wants Lu Yue’er to retrieve contains a note. It’s written by his mother confessing that Song Yan isn’t the Emperor’s son. Hua Yi Man switched the letter before Lu Yue’er stole it for Song Yan.

GD Nan Zhe makes Hua Yi Nan believe that for Lu Yue’er to survive is for her to extract the blood from his heart (the Qiye Puluo). And so Hua Yi Nan allows Lu Yue’er to poison him. She hesitates to take the blood from the tip of his heart, but he pulls the dagger into his chest.

Scene cuts.

Lu Yue’er’s mission failed. She was unable to retrieve the Qiye Puluo. Hua Yi Nan is still alive, but injured. Now Song Yan now wants Lu Yue’er to poison the food meant for the Emperor’s banquet. He wants to frame Hua Family and have them executed (in case Hua Yi Nan reveals his secret).

[Ep23] Du Ruo asks Su Tang to travel the world with him. If she’s not leaving with him, then he won’t leave either. She agrees. Second couple is finally born.

Song Yan catches Lu Yue’er red handed in betraying him. She didn’t poison the food. She also wrote a letter to Hua Yi Nan that she isn’t Lu Yue’er but her heart has been moved by him. Then GD Nan Zhe informs Song Yan that the Qiye Puluo is in her body.

At the banquet, Song Yan accuses Hua Yi Nan of poisoning the Emperor. Lu Yue’er is also captured (so that GD Nan Zhe can extract the Qiye Puluo).

[Ep24] Song Yan fails at sabotaging Hua Yi Nan, but he does restore his powers with the Qiye Puluo. And yet he still fails to kill Hua Yi Nan. That’s because Hua Yi Nan suddenly has powers. And then he’s protected by Lu Yue’er, or I should say Xiao Man.

How did this all happen? Xiao Man (= Lu Yue’er and Tang Ying Ying) restored her memories on the night she stabbed Hua Yi Nan. The real Qiye Puluo was extracted and she consumed it. She told Hua Yi Nan the truth and gave him (temporary) powers. Together, they fooled Song Yan to swallow the fake Qiye Puluo, which will expend his life force every time he uses his powers.
Still, Song Yan vows to kill Hua Yi Nan. As the men duel, Xiao Man is in danger. That distracts Song Yan and as a result he dies. Wait! Some last words: he wonders why in her eyes, there was never him. He’s pained from the heartbreak. If he is reborn, he won’t see her again. And then his body vanishes. Xiao Man cries for Song Yan, the Dragon Demon, whom she loved as a brother.
Xiao Man leaves Lu Yue’er’s body. She will restore Hua Yi Nan’s life. She knows very well that Hua Yi Nan isn’t Mu Yuan. Oh wait. Isn’t this slightly a sad ending then :(
And so Lu Yue’er wakes up from Hua Yi Man’s ear-splitting cries (because he thought she died).

Some time later, Hua Yi Nan and Lu Yue’er visit Xiao Man – the tree. They buried Song Yan next to the tree. Then we zap to the real Xiao Man who is with her Dragon Demon ‘brother’. He gives her a seashell to listen to the ocean. He promises that after they become gods, he’ll take her to travel the world. Huh. So Xiao Man’s happy ending isn’t with Mu Yuan.

Finally, our couple is working on a baby. Lamb soup is ready. Oh and the tree is in full blossom.

The end.

Remarks

[First Impression (Ep1-6)] Our couple marries in Ep4 and they’re still so cute~ I was close to giving up in the first five minutes. That CGI. My eyes. The burn. Beyond that, this has become my comfort romcom.

The FL is the clueless, cutesy type. Now I know how annoyed of some of you guys are with this character type, but this actress is really selling it. As a girl, I am charmed by her. Her character is reincarnated from a tree spirit. She used up her energy to allow her lover to reincarnate. They meet again a thousand later without their memories. I love how their bodies remember, though. The ML suffers a bit because of her cluelessness, but who told him to owe her in their past life?

There's more interesting elements to the story like the FL's chronically frail heart, the FL's mother's background, and the reincarnation of the Dragon Demon. Will he be an obstacle again?

[Actors/Actresses] This is Huang Sheng Chi and Zheng He Hui Zi's second collaboration. Their first drama was Ugly Beauty (2021). I don't think Huang Sheng Chi is handsome or charming, but I find myself smiling because of him in this drama. Those wisps of hair actually works for him.

[Behind the Scenes

[Ending] Happy. Lu Yue’er and Hua Yi Nan are still married.

Xiao Man and Song Yan (Dragon Demon) return to their spiritual land. It’s just a wee bit sad that Xiao Man is without her Mu Yuan.

[Review & Rating]
The first half is sugary (so sweet!). The second half is draggy (save me -.- nvmd, too late). Storytelling is uneven. Good thing it’s short and the residual sweetness tides me over the bland stretch of “story”(= resolving the past with Dragon Demon / Song Yan 🥱). At the end, it’s happy with closure (without weird twists!!).

I’m happiest with Zheng He Hui Zi’s performance. I’m also impressed by her dubbing VA. But if anyone can’t stand her too-too-cute expressions and the too-too-cute voice, this might be your biggest hurdle – that is, after you get over the CGI.
