Lin Chi is spunky. Also, short, very feisty, has a good heart, tenacious, and determined. She's too angry but able to cry when she's supposed to not have those senses. (Dramaland plot hole.) However, she can be very frustrating and childish at times.
Mo Qing Chen (Prince Ji Ding Lan): In the beginning, he would manhandle her (or anyone) since he lacks certain sensory functions. He's levelheaded (well, there's a reason for that), quiet, and righteous. I enjoyed watching him become more sensitive, gentle and loving. (Wang Xing Yue is good with microexpressions, and shows a bit of maturity, even though he's a young actor.) I loved watching him move in his robes - he's so majestic looking. I looked forward to his soliloquies (or what becomes love messages to Lin Chi) before the eps. *swoon* His serious face is as enjoyable as his smiling face.
This show cracks me up though, especially with the interactions between Lin Chi and Mo Qing Chen. The physical humor is on point here. I love how feisty she is. In the beginning, he took everything literally. Counting stars = having her count the stars one by one.
Whenever he hugs her... and the look on his face every time. *swoon* Ah but the rooftop moon kiss - so sweet. And that scene with the lanterns, when they're sitting on the mat. I love their hugs, hand holding, and even his forehead kisses are all so sweet. Dramaland knows to persuade us to root for OTP. The show knew what they were doing when the orchestrated some of their scenes together.
E14. The mishaps and the closet game. Hahaha. What caused it was Lin Chi reading the note and telling Qiu Wan for her to meet Ji Ding Luan in the garden. I couldn't stop crying laughing when the three of them were in the closet trying explain it. (Had to replay it twice!) And then drunk Ji Ding Luan shows up, the look on Mo Qing Chen was the best - perplexed. Hahaha. Aww, Ji Ding Luan kisses Qiu Wan. Later, when Qiu Wan tests Mo Qing Chen with the 120 demands. Poor guy needs to be informed of the premise: spoil and love Lin Chi. I love when Lin Chi finds out, she gets mad at Qiu Wan and decides to propose to him instead. (But she isn't supposed to feel anything right now...)
E15. Ah, when Mo Qing Chen rescues Lin Chi, and he loses it and then we see the importance of the tear exchange (they don’t know yet). Poor Ling Yan doubts her worth in Ji Ding Yue's world.
E16. They're just figuring out the tears exchange. I love how they're trying to outsmart each other.
E17. Hahaha, their poor eyes. Yay, the Empress approves their marriage. Awww, Du Ruo meets up with Mo Qing Chen. The pained look on his face when Mo Qing Chen tells him that Lin Chi is the love of his life.
Mo Qing Chen isn't dead (mushrooms), but Lin Chi has been taken hostage by Ji Ding Yue and Mo Qing Chen was poisoned by needles. She tends to him and weeps into his eyes. Ji Ding Yue attempts to kill her but she fights back. Ji Ding Luan brings a tied up Ji Ding Yue to the Emperor for his punishment, who shows zero remorse.
Later on, Lin Chi is fatigued, lethargic and nauseated at her favorite foods. She's pregnant. Everyone shoves Mo Qing Chen out of the way to congratulate her. LOL Their baby cries much to Mo Qing Chen's joy (so the baby isn't losing senses).
I like Ji Ding Luan and Qiu Wan together. I love how he's mellow book smart, awkward, and sincere, while she's straightforward, elegant and fierce. They're a funny couple - and she's definitely smarter than him. (He keeps getting interrupted while trying to confess to her every time!! The poor guy. LOL)
Ling Shu and Ling Hua are so helpful and cute. Without them, there would be even more chaos at that house.
Poor Ling Yan. She loved the wrong man, Jing Ding Yue and paid the price. She was molded and manipulated by Jing Ding Yue. At least she knew about what he truly was before he killed her.
Jing Ding Yue is loathsome. He uses Lin Yan over and over for his own purposes and she doesn't see it until it's too late. How could he kill her if he "loves" her? Really? He's not gonna let her death be in vain? Uhm, you could have just not killed her. E19, that flashback scene of her (a kid) and him (an adult) was kind of gross... So he essentially groomed her. (Puke.) And he's the actual monster in this.
The wardrobe on this set has been amazing. The royal family has very detailed stitching and decorations, especially on the lapels and the sleeves are so layered. (I counted 7 at some point.) I like the simple and feminine dresses that the women wear without being tacky. Mo Qing Chen's outfits are my favorite - especially the black and white one with the mountain-esque painting print on the bottom half.
The story is unique, entertaining, the leads are strong, and the supporting cast.... overall, an enjoyable ride. Going to keep my eye out for more Wang Xing Yue series (and Li Jiu Lin has more fleshed out roles soon).
I liked the OST for this series, but my favorite has to be Kido’s Under the Pen. (I would love to see the English subs for the lyrics though. It's in the series, but not as a MV.)
I'd rewatch this series over and over.

E18. Du Ruo is drinking alone but Qiu Wan shows up and tells him that if he truly cares about her, he'd want to wish her happiness. So he decides to challenge Mo Qing Chen, but ultimately Du Ruo* gives all of his Lin Chi intel to Mo Qing Chen, as he'll be the one responsible for Lin Chi's happiness. Wow, Mo Qing Chen actually asks Du Ruo if he's really not going to confess his feelings to Lin Chi. Du Ruo's response is, this is enough. (Selfless trait.)
Du Ruo (Li Jiu Lin is destined for SLS, although he's not quite the second lead here) is sympathetic with his unrequited love for Lin Chi. He took way too long to say anything to Lin Chi, and lost his chance. He is relatively graceful in his loss. (I hope this actor isn't stuck in this type of role though. I've seen him in You Are My Destiny (which I hated but Li Jiu Lin was memorable).
The wedding night scene... whoa, I love how he's so tender with her one second but intent on kissing her - that kiss on the table! And then he carries her off after telling her to just take off the wedding dress. Hehe.
E21. Ji Ding Yue is the worst. He poisons Lin Chi to force Mo Qing Chen to give up his title and privilege and force him to reveal his secret. Emperor finds a way to get him out, and has Ru Duo arrest him. But Ru Duo gets arrested by Ji Ding Yue (which the Emperor implied was a possibility).
E22. Mo Qing Chen and company flee to a house that Lin Chi's master has squirreled away for. Why is the Emperor not doing anything to Ji Ding Yue?! (Besides getting upset.) Ji Ding Yue is manipulating everything and everyone in the palace. At least the Emperor protects Ji Ding Luan by orchestrating a fight with him, which makes him leave. Ohh, mushroom discovery (the link between Mo Qing Chen and Lin Chi's sense swapping abilities).
E23. Ji Ding Yue set up a trap for Ji Ding Luan to lead them to their hideout. Lin Chi has been kidnapped again. (Why did they let her go into the forest alone?!) They have a plan - Ji Ding Luan brings a letter offering his life for his parents, Ru Duo and Lin Chi. Later, Ji Ding Luan shows up with Mo Qing Chen in a coffin, which Ji Ding Yue demands to be opened. Two requests: not to harm their parents and Lin Chi, and leave his body in the palace morgue for 3 days and have a funeral befitting a prince. Ji Ding Luan insists on visiting Lin Chi to give her the news in person, and she begs to see him. Mo Qing Chen's message to her: "He wants you to stay alive. You must stay alive." He puts something in her hand (secretly, when consoling her) - mushroom. The Emperor is angry at Ji Ding Yue, and calls him the monster, and that his mother actually framed the Empress and Mo Qing Chen. He has a pity party about being alone. (I'm not feeling sorry for him.)

Ji Ding Yue's mother poisoned the Empress during her pregnancy, which caused Mo Qing Chen’s lack of senses. Emperor wants Mo Qing Chen to kill his brother. Mo Qing Chen goes to see Ji Ding Yue, and offers his father's option - death by poison, or Mo Qing Chen's option – temporary death by mushroom. He realizes that the Emperor's been protecting him, and he realizes he's killed people, including Ling Tan in vain. Ji Ding Yue choses to drink the poison and dies seeing Ling Tan with his last breath. Du Ruo is finally released from prison. Ji Ding Luan is no longer as poor, but is still clueless about telling Qiu Wan how he feels.... until he sees her crying and packing. He finally does confess to her. And she kisses him, agrees to marry him and he kisses her.

Fluffier than a meaty drama. Meatier than a fluffy drama. I like it. Not too serious and not too flimsy. Humour and romance will quickly wash away the short bouts of angst.
Bu Guan Jin is hilarious and emotional when her character needs it. Wang Xing Yue’s gloomy-grumpiness is hilarious too. Marriage through his somber angle is too amusing and I never thought it could also be so loving.
When I think Drama has plot holes, it really has, but there are these little details or the end result make up for it, somewhat. The amount of times Drama used let’s-kidnap-the-FL trope to drive plot was overkill, though. Like why is Lin Chi always alone? Why not use her resources like Ling Hua and Ling Shu? Supposedly, they are very capable of protecting her, but I’ll never know because the drama never showed it. Other than not using the Lings to their worth, I love their supporting scenes everywhere else and I like how the last kidnap cleverly uses (some of) the drama’s resources.
Overall, I really enjoyed how the story is focused but I’ll probably remember the humour more. From the crying couple to their marriage and grave comparisons to their closet hide and seek game, Lin Chi and Mo Qing Chen are a hilariously romantic duo (and good looking pair too).
