Mini Recaps

[Ep1] It’s the Emperor’s birthday. Consort Qian performs for the party. Our General (whose name we don’t know) can’t even lift his eyes to watch the performance. It’s more like he’s restraining himself. When Consort Qian walks down the lane, that’s when his curiosity gets the better of him. He takes a glance at her hand. He notices the mole on her pinky, the slenderness of her shoulders, but that’s all our General allows himself to see. He cannot see more or his heart will ache.

Suddenly an arrow flies by. It’s aimed at the Emperor but Consort Qian runs to block the arrow. In turn, our General throws his wine cup to divert the arrow and flies in to save Consort Qian before she falls. They spin in the air and he finally meets her eye. It’s dangerous! Look at the arrows first! Our General takes her to a safe place and hides her. He’ll need to return to protect the Emperor. Consort Qian grabs onto the General’s arm. There’s fear in her eyes. Our General wonders if there’s more meaning behind those brown eyes of hers.

Consort Qian: Ye – General, please be safe and save His Majesty. I assume she wanted to say his name which starts with “Ye". How come she knows his name (and we don’t)?

Our General looks at the slender and fragile hand on his arm. There’s that mole on her pinky again. He clasps his hand on top of hers. With a soft squeeze and small nod, he gets up to find the Emperor. Before he leaves her, he assigns his most trusted lieutenant to protect her.

A mysterious shadow glides through the door. Someone saw this exchange.

[Ep2] The palace is safe but the purpose of the ambush is unclear. The General is punished by the Emperor for his failure in protecting the palace.

Elsewhere, Prince Qin plots to kill the General. It was him who saw the exchange between his mother (Consort Qian) and the General. He’s vying to be the Crown Prince. He can’t have his mother caught in an affair. The plan runs into a few hiccups and now Prince Qin has to take matters in his own hands. With the General under a poison, he’s weak and can’t fight back. Prince Qin puts a knife at the General’s neck but his hands are shaking. Consort Qian barrages in. She uses her bare hands to block the knife.

Consort Qian cries: You cannot kill him! He is your father.

[Ep3] There’s more to the conversation!

Consort Qian: He is your father...and I am not your mother.

Prince Qin drops his knife, unable to process the absurdity that came out of his mother’s – supposedly not his mother – voice. How could she not be his mother? How can that man be his father? Prince Qin picks up his knife and screams. His eyes are blind with fury as he takes two hands to swing down at the General’s chest but Consort Qian throws her body over Prince Qin to stop him. The General takes the dropped knife and cuts his own hand to stimulate his own senses back to his body. He gathers all his force and punches out Prince Qin.

When our General wakes up, he’s back in his manor. Could it be a dream? But it felt all too real. He looks at his fist. It’s bruised. That wasn’t a dream. He has a son? There’s no way. Also, Consort Qian called him “Ye” earlier. That’s not his name. Our General needs to know just what is happening. Our General quickly makes his way back to the palace. He needs to meet Consort Qian. But how? He stops midway. He can’t just visit her in the open. He had considered finding Prince Qin but he isn’t in the palace. Apparently, he was never back from a battle. Just what is happening!

Our General dresses up in black to sneak into the palace at night. However, his lieutenant, Luo Ting Feng stops him to ask where he’s going. Our General dismisses him. The scene stops at Ting Feng’s expression. He furrows his eyebrows looking worried. He knows something... what does he know! How did our General even get back to his place? And how come we don’t know our General’s name? How come Consort Qian knows it?

[Ep4] Our General is successfully in Consort Qian's room. Un/fortunately she’s preparing for a shower. Our General is sweating buckets. The maids aren’t leaving and he can’t show himself. He shuts his eyes. The sound of her showering makes him dizzy. The water, the maids laughing and then there’s her voice – it’s sweet and it’s familiar. He remembers the first time he met her. He was just returning from a battle and she literally fell from the sky onto his horse and in his arm. She was in a light blue dress, her hair felt like silk, the bones of her back protruded into his palms as he held tightly onto her afraid she’d drop. He was bemused and she quickly explained she fell from a tree. He remembers looking up and thought the angle of the tree was weird for her to fall onto him the way she did but then he also remembers the smile on her face, and the twinkle in her eyes as she thanked him for saving her. Diverting his gaze, he quickly settled her down. It’s been a while since he held a woman but did women ever feel like this? Our General’s flashbacks stop abruptly. “Come out.” It’s Consort Qian's calm voice. The maids have left and the room is dimmer now.

Our General stays rigid, afraid to move. Could she be speaking to him?

Consort Qi: General. I didn’t know you were a peeping tom.

Embarrassed, our General shuffles out of his hiding spot. He hangs his head low to avoid her gaze. But then Consort Qian moves towards him. Closer and closer. Our General takes a step back until he’s plastered to the wall. On his back, he feels the coldness of the wall but on his front, he feels every softness of her. Warmth spreads through his veins to every inch of his body that he didn’t know could feel such warmth. The only sound our General hears are his deep breaths and his roaring heart.

Then Consort Qian screams.

Guards quickly surround the room.

It’s too late for our General to react. He’s pinned down by other guards and knocked unconscious for not cooperating.

When our General wakes up again, he's being dragged to execution. He’s killed. O.O

The scene switches. We’re in the realms of gods! The maids are gossiping that “he’s” finally awake.

Our General is here! In bed! And he's actually a god! He has just completed his third love trial. Then someone comes in to welcome him back. It’s Luo Ting Feng. He calls our General, “Ye Hua.”

Ye Hua menacingly asks: Where is she?
