[Ep2] Their first crisis: someone wants to marry our ML's little Feng Mian Wan.
Aaaaand they're going to be ill-fated lovers: her mother is the murder suspect of his family's death. However, I sense his family's death has more to do with the "father". As a young child, he knew this but he still chose to raise her with love.
Oh, and he didn't kill her bird. Of course.
Jing Ci finds a doppelganger, Yuan Qing Li, to take Feng Mian Wan's place in marriage (technically it was Yuan Qing Li’s marriage to begin with). He doesn't tell FMW the plan.

[Ep3] FMW never knew JC loved her and now her memory is gone.
JC misunderstands that it was FMW who injured him, incapacitating his legs forever. Despite that, he never once blamed her.
FMW has taken YQL’s identity. Now she has an arranged marriage next month. Just when she escaped one marriage. She runs away once again, this time disguising herself as a man. The fake FMW gets a happy ending at least? Fake FMW might not be the one who injured JC? Hm.
[Ep4] YQL is now called “Ah Yuan" and gets a job as a constable.
Ah Yuan and JC cross paths. She falls in love at first sight with JC (again).

[Ep5] Ah Yuan is a murder suspect. JC investigates her case for her but still acts nonchalant.
[Ep6] JC proves Ah Yuan's innocence
[Ep7] Why would he need legs when Ah Yuan protects him all the time? Because he needs them when she needs protecting.
[Ep8] She asks him why he's not married when he's so highly qualified in terms of looks, skills, and rank, basically everything.
JC: In my heart there was always someone. I had wanted to spend the rest of my life with her but we had to part ways. If fate has it that way then why waste effort to change it?(Pst, he doesn't kiss her)
[Ep9] Ah Yuan's fiancé (from her Qing Li identity) is now a murder suspect. Her scary future father-in-law comes to supervise the case. Her fiancé, Mu Wei Yan, doesn't mind being locked up since that way he can be near his fiancée. Meanwhile AY gullibly believes she has everyone fooled with her man disguise.
[Ep11] Jing Ci washes Yuan Qing Li’s feet (very scandalous!)
YQL is tricked, almost causing her to be kidnapped and killed. Fortunately, JC saves the day and FINALLY admits that everyone knows YQL is in fact a girl. I wonder how since she clearly hid it so well…✖‿✖
[Ep12] Jiang Tan, Zuo Yan Xi’s missing junior sister, has been working for the enemy. But she shows compassion to ZYX, allowing him to escape while faking her own injury.
YQL begins to recall fragments of her forgotten past.
[Ep13] Jiang Tan proclaims she is working for someone of “great importance”.
Mu Bei Yan, YQL’s ‘fiancé’, prepares a zombie potion in hopes of getting some time/answers from YQL. Unfortunately, his subordinate switches the potion with a love potion. Right as it begins to take effect, JC appears and takes the drugged YQL away.

YQL continues to try and get closer JC despite the warnings and objections from the people around them.
[Ep15] Lord He is killed, and his pinkie finger is cut off like the other corpses (⊙ˍ⊙)
[Ep16] Princess Zhang Le arrives and instantly dislikes YQL. She believes YQL is involved with her not so secret crush, Zhao Yan. The princess decides to take YQL’s living quarters as ‘payback’. But YQL uses the opportunity to her advantage to bunk with JC. Smart girl!
JC and YQL share first kiss as their new personas. Flashbacks of similar scenes from their old lives play simultaneously.
[Ep17] JC is believed to be dying and tries to push a reluctant YQL away.
[Ep18] Lord He was murdered by his servant and wife, as well as an unknown assassin who finished the job after the formers failed attempt.
JC tells YQL he is not in love with her but instead he is in love with a girl from his past; YQL’s old identity.
[Ep19] We learn that YQL’s ‘new’ mother is not close with her daughter. Reasons still unknown but seems very important. I am also wondering if the mom had more than one child…
YQL refuses to give up on JC. However, he comes in for the kill saying he was only using her due to the fact she was very similar to his first love, aka her. He is dying and doesn’t want her to waste her time on a dying man. And of course breaking her heart and making her miserable is a much better solution (눈‸눈)
[Ep20] YQL is poisoned protecting JC. He vows if she wakes he will stay by her side and no longer try and push her away.
The masked villain is revealed to be Prince Hao!
[Ep21] JC is sick and returns to the Capital. YQL, confused by his quick departure, decides it is time for her and Xiao Lu to go back home as well.
YQL admits to her mother that she has never felt like herself since she lost her memory. Desperate for the mom to admit she had twins (or even triplets).
[Ep22] I am convinced Katy Perry’s Hot N Cold was written about JC. Within a 60 second period he goes from trying to visit YQL and proclaim his love, to deciding he must push her away, again. MAKE UP YOUR MIND!!
We learn Jiang Tan is helping the prince due to him threatening the life of her father.
Bratty princess Wang Zesheng arrives to the capital in hopes of marrying JC.
“If I don’t want to let go of him, even heaven can’t break us apart” (>▽<) you tell ‘em YQL!
[Ep24] The emperor prepares a hunting trip. During the trip JC pretends to be poisoned to uncover the mastermind behind his current threats. When Prince Hao is revealed as the killer, JT stabs ZYX by accident when aiming for JC. Poor ZYX is learning the literal meaning of love hurts lol
[Ep25] Princess Crazy Wang Zesheng, jumps in the lake and accuses YQL of pushing her. The emperor punishes YQL to 50 lashes, as well as house arrest for 3 years. JC outwardly takes WZ’s side further pushing YQL away.
[Ep29] The princess WZ is dead! YQL is suspected to be the killer and is arrested, interrupting her and MBY’s wedding day. I knew this wedding was too good to be true.
[Ep31] The emperor has made up his mind to kill YQL even if she is innocent to appease WZ’s father.
Fortunately, YQL was able to prove her innocence but loses all trust in JC. She takes a sword and slashes the pouches she had made for him into little pieces. “In the previous life, and this life, we are over” (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧ you go girl!
[Ep26] JC had asked the nice princess ZL to explain to YQL that he is being watched. And that is why he has been acting like a jerk. Also, he is not into princess snooty pants WZ. But too little too late, YQL wants nothing more to do with him.
YQL’s mother admits to having twins! She also admits that JC planned everything, but she was happy having her other daughter back knowing Qingli was safe with the man she loved.
JC’s actions behind the scenes are revealed. He had thought YQL had received his letter explaining his true identity before his departure to the capital. Upon learning she never got it, as well as her painstaking efforts to find him, he realizes he has made a terrible mistake in continuing to push her away. YOU DON’T SAY (눈‸눈)
[Ep27] The emperor approves of YQL and MBY’s marriage. I say she is making a wise choice and we should simply change the Male Lead going forward.
[Ep28] YQL finally learns JC is dying.
Bratty princess WZ refuses to eat because JC is still mad at her for trying to frame YQL. She decides, along with the evil aunt, to give YQL medicine to bring back her memories. But YQL is done being bullied. She boldly declares she does not want her memories back and puts the princess in her place. However, the princess has the last words when she accuses YQL of being the one who hurt JC in her previous ‘life’.
[Ep29] The princess WZ is dead! YQL is suspected to be the killer and is arrested, interrupting her and MBY’s wedding day. I knew this wedding was too good to be true.
[Ep30] Both YQL and her maid are tortured while under arrest. Her maid is killed by the crooked interrogators.
We learn it was JT who killed WZ, and her senior brother breaks it off with her for good.
[Ep31] The emperor has made up his mind to kill YQL even if she is innocent to appease WZ’s father.
Madam Yuan and JC team up to take down the evildoers and save YQL.
[Ep32] Madam Yuan dramatically stabs herself with her hairpin, but is thankfully fine.
When YQL is released she immediately goes after the people who killed her maid, Xiao Lu. She is stopped by a remorseful JT.
JC’s pendant is the source of the poison (wasn’t that his mothers??)
ZYX dies protecting JT (we all knew it was going to happen eventually but I still wasn’t ready). JT commits suicide next to the lifeless ZYX.
[Ep33] JC pours his heart out to MBY and an ‘unconscious’ (secretly listening) YQL, explaining why he treated her poorly. I feel like we have heard him tell this story to every character in this show, it is repetitive and redundant.
YQL forgives JC and they rekindle their relationship (poor MBY!)
[Ep34] The evil prince kills Madam Yuan by stabbing her with his sword, poisons the emperor, and strangles his older brother, Lord Bo, to death. (⊙ˍ⊙) He killed a lot of people back to back.
YQL saves JC’s aunt. At first she is ungrateful and refuses to believe the Yuan’s are innocent and she has been wrong all this time. However, when another ambush occurs she decides to make up for her past mistakes by sacrificing herself to save YQL.
Evil prince Hao takes the throne.
[Ep35] Lord (prince) Qing is asked to ascend the throne once Prince Hao is overthrown.
[Ep36] Our leads all get happy endings, except for a slightly broken hearted MBY.
But before they can truly begin their HEA, they first must defeat JC’s foster father who is trying to take over the empire. Started strong but he folded quickly, probably because it was the last episode and it is hard to stage an entire coup with only 30 minutes left lol.

[First Impression (Ep1-8)] I'm on the fence. I really like Chen Yu Qi. Was a little disappointed when she was the ditsy Feng Mian Wan but she turns all likable as the bright Qing Li. Slightly looking forward to her trying to win him over. Meanwhile other political stuff...I'm not looking forward to it. At all. Neither am I feeling Jing Ci's unwavering romance yet.
[Dropped] The drama is glossing over a lot of details. It has this grand plot to get through (all the identity switches, and the real dark force that's behind their parents death) but that's no excuse to not pay attention to detail. How does she just assume her identity as Qing Li? Qing Li has seen the big world, seduced countless men but Feng Mian Wan was enclosed in her little world created by Jing Ci. Her actions, her thoughts are all very different. Why doesn't QL's family suspect her at all? Then she suddenly becomes a constable? With zero knowledge? The girl who doesn't even know ginger from ginseng? I wish the show spent a little more time in setting up her character as she transitions from one role to another.
And then there's Yu Meng Long (Alan Yu). First time watching his drama. He's so boring. I’m surprised how plain and stiff he is. Genuine question: fans of him, why are you fans of him?
