In Ep28, ML finally learns the truth that he's her ancestor. This 32-episode show only had this one obstacle dragging this romance and they don't start solving it until the end.
In Ep31, the second last episode, it's solved. ML is not FL's ancestor. But how? Turns out the brother always knew his grandfather lied. But he FORGOT. Someone had to hit his head for him to remember. Someone = the villains. Thanks.
In Ep32 (finale), FL chooses to die in the fire instead of fighting to survive. Because OH BROTHER suddenly remembers that the fire is their ending point. Time to leave and “restore order”. So she just obeys the spontaneous cosmic rules and goes. No resistance. Total compliance.
The real ancestor is Pei Fei, according to the fibbing grandpa (truly, not one good Shen man). I don't know who Pei Fei marries. He rejects Grand Princess in Ep31 because of status, and that's the last we see of them. Then we see Liu Chang holding a kid. Iunno.
It's a sad ending in ML's world. Everyone forgets the Shen family ever existed, except ML, but he also barely remembers them. He dies of old age, utter loneliness, and barely remembers his love-life but is still desperately in love with someone he can’t remember. It is depressing.
Logic holes. If FL never existed, how does ML get rid of the villain. Because FL played a very crucial role in tripping the guy 😑. So crucial. And how does the portrait exist?
Modern world is a happy ending. Because – dun dun dun! – ML also had a dream and remembers FL.
It is their sheer acting ability that I felt something for this scene. I guess it's "happy" -_-
