[Ep1] Guo Jing is a medical doctor in Africa. He’s driving to the site until he’s gunned down on a dangerous territory. After a few stunt moves and putting the enemy’s car on fire, his car rolls over. At the moment of his almost-death, he has an epiphany. “You think one lifetime is long but there a lot of things you haven’t completed. You think one moment is short but once you have that moment, you’ll understand what you want the most.” A picture of Huang Rong floats to our screen.
Three years later. Thank god it’s not three years earlier. Guo Jing is healthy and alive and back in China to pursue the girl he loves. He tells us his love story with Huang Rong. They met in university and it was love at first sight for both of them. She would make out with him fervently in the library. In their first class together examining corpses she was afraid and it was him who comforted her. However, this is all a lie.
Huang Rong tells us the real version. His name is not Guo Jing (郭靖), it’s Guo Jing (郭京). There’s a slight difference in intonation between the Jings. He changed his name after his South Africa incident because he wants to be Huang Rong’s fated match. Huang Rong “黃蓉” and Guo Jing “郭靖” are a couple in Legend of Condor Heroes. “They” never fell in love at first sight. He fell in love with her and loved her all these years. It was Guo Jing who was afraid of the corpse on their first fay of class and her who comforted him. She had a crush on Chen Feng and married him after university. They divorced because he cheated, not because of Guo Jing. He didn’t go to Africa to volunteer, he was penalized and volunteering a year there was the only way to keep his job. However, he ended up staying there for two more years. I like this version so much more.
A patient filed a complaint against Guo Jing. He exposed her pregnancy which she was trying to hide from her boyfriend. But after Guo Jing cornered her, she tells her boyfriend the truth. Afterwards, the patient seemed suicidal. Perhaps the boyfriend didn't like the news.
Huang Rong has her own problems. She might have been infected with HIV after being injured by a patient with AIDS. Perhaps she does like Guo Jing (a teeny tiny tiny bitty witty bit) but she’s keeping him at a distance because of this.
A bit about Huang Rong’s family: she is raised by her sister, Huang Cai Yun. She has never seen her sister cry even when their mother passed away.
[Ep2] Guo Jing is raised by his father. He has an older sister Guo Guo. The father and daughter are habitual fakers who will commit suicide to threaten each other. They really go to extremes to get their ways. Guo Jing is too used to them jumping off buildings or taking a knife at each other. Dad is against her marrying a man without a prospective future but Guo Guo is determined to marry even if he has no money, no car, and divorced with a child.
Guo Jing is an undercover psychologist. He solves his patient’s emotional problems. This patient lacks security which is why she installs all sorts of camera in his car and home. Her boyfriend does love her but he wants to succeed in his career first which is why he’s hesitant on having a child. Is there really a conflict between the two? She also had an abusive ex-boyfriend and a miscarriage. Her current pregnancy is precious to her because it might be her last. Guo Jin sympathetically talks some sense into her to trust her man who truly loves her.
Guo Jing finally gets his dinner with Huang Rong. He tells her, “As long as you nod I’ll be good to you forever.” That’s sweet.
[Ep3] Although Guo Jing helped the female patient overcome her problems she still decides to go with an abortion for her boyfriend’s career. However, this will be her third abortion. With her health, it’s practically impossible to be pregnant the next time. While Guo Jing consults with her, her boyfriend is outside the room listening to all the sacrifices she’s making for him. They decide to have the baby. It’s a happy ending for them but Guo Jing still has his heartache. Huang Cai Yun had called him to her office to vehemently oppose him pursuing Huang Rong.
A drunk Guo Jing shows up at Huang Rong’s door. Guo Jing doesn’t understand what’s wrong with loving her. He just loves her. He always has. He’s never stopped loving her the three years he was away. Huang Rong’s eyes are red. His speech has moved her. She tells him why she can’t accept him. She has HIV. Huang Rong turns to leave but Guo Jing pulls her back to kiss her. He wants to marry her. He tells her they'll sign the papers tomorrow. He dashes off to buy a ring, begging the salesman to reopen the jewelry store. Seeing his sincerity, the salesman lets him in.
Meanwhile Huang Rong has packaged herself marriage ready. She’s in traditional wedding clothes excitedly waiting for Guo Jing. In her flashbacks, we see that she already knows she’s HIV-free. She had told him the opposite to reject him but he still loved her the same. In this world, only Guo Jing could possibly do that for her. Thus, if he really does propose to her, she’ll marry him.
Next morning, Guo Jing is dressed up and so is his nifty bike (with a red bow). However, when he reaches her door, he receives a call. His sister committed suicide. He drops the bouquet in front of Huang Rong's condo without ringing the doorbell and dashes to the hospital. After waiting an entire morning, an angry Huang Rong leaves for her lecture. She sees the dropped bouquet.
[Ep4] Huang Rong won't talk to Guo Jing. Thus, extreme times calls for extreme measures. He pretends to be a delivery man. Huang Rong doesn't know it's him. With a cap on, he barges into her home, grabs her waist to make her still in order to talk to her. Creepy. After some more persuasion, Huang Rong is finally willing to talk to Guo Jin. She tells him there's something she can't accept of him: how his life is entirely consumed by his love for her. She knows he'll treat her well. She also tells him she doesn't have HIV. However, since that day when their proposal was interrupted, it was as if fate wanted to stop their marriage.
[Ep5] Guo Jing suspects Huang Rong's friend's husband is cheating on her. He's not.

There's going to interesting family dynamics. Third episode: interesting case and an interesting romantic development. Fourth episode: Big no.

Remarks
[First Impression (Ep1-5)] First episode was amazing. The editing was sublime. I was so engrossed with the story because of the way it was told and narrated. Second episode: mmm! There's going to interesting family dynamics. Third episode: interesting case and an interesting romantic development. Fourth episode: Big no.
I'm not one to drop a drama for one bad scene but this drama really is forcing me to do that. Ep4 with the delivery scene was awful. Guo Jing (ML) went from being a silly sweet dude to a creepy stalker. Now when I think back to all his actions it's all stalker-ish. Sigh. This is a high quality drama and I find it a pity. I tried trudging on to the next episode and I got bored of the case. So far the two patients are females with men problem. The men look like they're cheaters but they're actually not. There's a deeper story behind them. I was hoping this would be more medical than psychological but then I realized the words in the poster are "Love Cures All Disease". Guo Jing will be a medical doctor who not only cures the body but the heart. This will be a holistic one. If the drama is good.
I'm going to put this on hold. Until I see more positive reviews, I do not want to invest in this anymore than I have. Although I have a problem with the creeper romance, my interest is also waning because of the uninteresting cases. Why have so many relationship problems in a medical drama?
