Mini Recaps

[Ep1-2Luo Tian Ran's best friend, Jin Xiao Qin, sold her precious home to Jin Ze Yi. These two have immediately become enemies; he thinks she's his crazy fan and she thinks he's a talent-less idol who broke her precious recorder.

Luo Tian Ran locks Jin Ze Yi out of his own home thinking it still belongs to her. Because of that, he develops a fever. She takes care of him when he refuses to go to a hospital. The next few nights, Luo Tian Ran sneakily stays in her home (she doesn't have anywhere else to go). Luo Tian Ran and Jin Zi Yi fight on the couch for reasons. The paparazzi capture this.

[Ep3] Luo Tian Ran begs Jin Ze Yi to help her attend her favourite idol's event but he refuses. She manages to get Yun Shu to help her. He's a doctor and an acquaintance of Jin Ze Yi. She had met him randomly on the bus. He's also the junior of Jin Ze Yi's father (hospital director).
The entire night Jin Ze Yi is cornered by his family and his company. His dad is giving him attitude (dad doesn't like his idol career). His mom is introducing a girl he doesn't like to him. His company is forcing him to pretend to be a couple with another junior celebrity. He's also not allowed to release his own song that he composed. Jin Ze Yi might have a case of anger management. He decides to be rebellious. When the journalists question him on who his lover is, he walks straight to Luo Tian Ran and tells everyone she is the girl they all want to meet. The instrumental when Jin Ze Yi grabbed Luo Tian Ran to announce that she's his fiancée sold me. I can be simple like that

[Ep4] Jin Ze Yi gives Luo Tian Ran a kiss in front of everyone. After the event is over, Jin Ze Yi offers her a fake marriage for a year. After their contract is over, the house will be hers. She agrees (after hesitating for a bit). They attend a press conference to announce their love and their marriage which is tomorrow. She tells the journalists she fell in love with Jin Ze Yi's looks. She recounts, "When he got angry at me, his nostrils were huge, his chin was jutted, his eyes were bulging like an ox's; it was so cute." Ha

Jin Ze Yi's grandma invites Luo Tian Ran to her home. She's giving Luo Tian Ran attitude for not visiting her at all. But she's a nice grandma, she just wants to see her future daughter-in-law. Jin Ze Yi had rushed to help Luo Tian Ran when he learned his grandmother invited her. Everything was a-okay until dad chills the atmosphere. On their way home, Luo Tian Ran speaks on his dad's behalf making Jin Ze Yi upset. He tells her to get off his car. She angrily gets off but forgets her purse and phone. Jin Ze Yi tries to find her but he couldn't. She's gone the entire night.

[Ep5-6] Today is the wedding. Jin Ze Yi thinks Luo Tian Ran won't be coming to the wedding after he ditched her. She really wasn't planning on coming but Jian Xiao Qin drags her in. Thus, they're married and they have a forced pretend kiss to seal the deal.

Jin Ze Yi and Luo Tian Ran are off to their honeymoon which is also a commercial/photo shoot. When they playfully run after each other, the photographers note that these two are really in love otherwise they can't have those expressions. Alriiiiiiiight, show. There's also a horse riding event and Jin Ze Yi admires Luo Tian Ran with how loving she is towards the horses and how skillful she is at riding them.

Jin Ze Yi doesn't really show he likes her at all as he forces her to sleep outside. She sneaks back in and takes the bed. She's trying to dare him off of it but then when he pulls his pants down (he has boxers on), she admits defeat and runs away.

Luo Tian Ran loses an expensive (very expensive) diamond ring. Jin Ze Yi doesn't want her to search endlessly for it so he lies that the ring is fake but it does cost $1000RMB. She sighs in relief but doesn't like that a fake ring can cost that much. She refuses to give up on finding the ring and eventually finds it. She's taken a liking to it and pays for the fake ring. He convinces her that they still need to return it regardless of its authenticity. However, when he sees her disappointed, he slips the ring back on her fourth finger. He tells her to have the diamond face down in case other people think it's real. She nods and happily accepts the ring. Meanwhile, he secretly foots the heavy bill for it.

Jin Ze Yi discovers Luo Tian Ran's perfect pitch.

Luo Tian Ran waited an entire evening for Jin Ze Yi but he left her hanging. His phone died and Tiffany, his manager, held him back. She was celebrating their seventh anniversary together. She was also purposely preventing him from meeting up with Luo Tian Ran.

[Ep7] Yun Shu is the perfect second lead. He's polite, nice, and friendly to Luo Tian Ran. He's the complete opposite of Jin Ze Yi. Jin Ze Yi is automatically jealous of Yun Shu. He even lies to Luo Tian Ran that his grandmother is sick to prevent her from having lunch with Yun Shu. Poor grandma immediately sneezes when her grandson is making up lies about her health.

[Ep8] It's Luo Tian Ran's birthday. Jin Ze Yi joins in on Jin Xiao Qin's surprise birthday plan for Luo Tian Ran. He even buys her an expensive present. He makes more lies that he's sick to cancel his schedule for the day and that Jin Xiao Qin is sick to get Luo Tian Ran to arrive at her birthday party sooner. However, she's busy with Yun Shu. I'm a little concerned why he must continuously ask her on a date when she's a newly wed. He's introducing here to a composer who happens to be Luo Tian Ran's role model.

Although Luo Tian Ran never appears at the amusement park for her birthday, she sees news of Jin Ze Yi there. It's all over social media. They're back on lovely terms after he takes her skating and gives her the birthday present.

[Ep9] Tiffany and Bubble Tea Guy finally are hitting it off. She starts to find him cute and eats his breakfast.

Luo Tian Ran cries and asks why grandma doesn’t like her. Grandma didn’t mean to hurt her. She sings to her granddaughter-in-law to cheer her up.

Yun Shu finds the girl who helped him fend off his bullies when he was younger. It’s Luo Tian Ran. She’s probably his first love.

[Ep10] Jin Ze Yi sees Yun Shu and Luo Tian Ran being close. Jin Ze Yi reminds Yun Shu that Luo Tian Ran is his wife.

Tian Ran gets jealous when Tiffany purposely hugs Jin Ze Yi. She angrily rides off on her bike but then falls. She hits her head against the rocks. When she regains consciousness, she loses her most recent memories which include all of her encounters with Jin Ze Yi. With that, they start on a new page where she thinks he’s her husband. He’s enjoying it while she’s docile to him.

[Ep11] Jin Ze Yi tries his best for 3/4 of the episode to hide the fake marriage contract from Luo Tian Ran but Tiffany casually exposes everything in less than a minute.

Third couple: Jin Xiao Qin and Ah Tai

[Ep12] Luo Tian Ran shows Jin Ze Yi the contract. To his surprise, she apologizes. She’s certain it must have been her who forced him to marry her.

Jin Xiao Qin is really annoying. She uses her friendship with Luo Tian Ran to make Jin Ze Yi advertise her products. He had dropped an important meeting to be here with Luo Tian Ran. Feeling apologetic, Luo Tian Ran attacks all the people who took pictures of Jin Ze Yi to protect his name. The fans praise her for doing that for her husband.

Luo Tian Ran recovers her memories. She asks why Jin Ze Yi lied to her and pretended to be her husband. The guy can’t say it’s because he loves her so he lies that he pitied her.

Jin Xiao Qin continues to be super annoying. She finds their marriage contract and uses it to threaten Jin Ze Yi to sponsor her products. Because of her Yun Shu overhears about the fake marriage too. That house sure isn’t sound proof. The guy can hear the entire conversation right outside the door.

[Ep13] Jin Xiao Qin is won over with a job offer from Jin Ze Yi to stop threatening Luo Tian Ran and Jin Ze Yi with their contract marriage. Just what kind of friend is she? Jin Ze Yi gives up a drama casting to watch a movie with Luo Tian Ran. It's not like he wanted to be in dramas anyways. Because of that, Tiffany cancels all his schedules.

[Ep14] Jin Ze Yi books an entire slope area to snowboard with Luo Tian Ran. However, she misunderstands that he used her to promote the slope. It was all Tiffany's doing.

[Ep15] Tiffany falls sick. Luo Tian Ran is jealous.

[Ep16]  Tiffany is being annoying again with her indirect jabs at Luo Tian Ran. Tiffany claims there’s something between her and Jin Ze Yi. Where’s bubble tea guy to tame her?

Jin Ze Yi asks Luo Tian Ran if she wants to extend their marriage contract. He clarifies it’s definitely not because he likes her. Divorcing within a year doesn’t look good to others and his family. She opposes that idea. The longer this marriage is, the more she’ll fall in love with him. She wants to divorce now.

Jin Ze Yi agrees to divorce but soon after that, his mother gives Luo Tian Ran a valuable family heirloom. Luo Tian Ran cries to sleep. She’s also sick. The next morning Jin Ze Yi makes her congee. She had once asked him of he would make her congee if she was sick. And so he does.

Jin Ze Yi recommends Luo Tian Ran to a composer but the composer already accepted her as his disciple all because of Yun Shu. Tiffany also captures a misleading pictures of these two. All this is a buildup to make Jin Ze Yi even more jealous of Yun Shu.

[Ep17] Tiffany offers an alliance with Yun Shu to break up Luo Tian Ran and Jin Ze Yi.

Just when Jin Ze Yi and Luo Tian Ran are on better terms, pictures of her and Yun Shu are posted all over social media. He thinks she’s dating Yun Shu and is furious at her. Luo Tian Ran becomes defensive. Jin Ze Yi angrily reminds her he’s her husband and forces a kiss on her.

[Ep18] Jin Ze Yi publicly says he believes in Luo Tian Ran unconditionally. He knows that Tiffany is behind all these rumours. But she actually isn’t. Her and Yun Shu apparently had no part in this. Tiffany is also embroiled in the rumours that she and Jin Ze Yi have a thing. Bubble tea guy protects her from the paparazzi.

Jin Ze Yi admits to Tiffany he likes Luo Tian Ran. Tiffany, please go to your bbt guy.

Yun Shu knows the one in Luo Tian Ran’s heart is Jin Ze Yi. Now these two idiots just have to know they like each other

Remarks

[First Impression (Ep1-8)] This is a Full House remake. Instead of a scriptwriter, our female lead in this version is an unrealized composer with perfect pitch. Instead of an actor, our male lead is an idol who wants to be a recognized singer. This ignites by 2000-ish drama feels. It uses very dated drama tropes (given that this is a remake of a 2004 drama): fake marriage, jealousy, misunderstandings, a male lead who doesn't know his own feelings, etc. I've been in dramaland for too long for me to be excited about this drama's content. However, come ending of Episode.2, the scene where he grabbed her hand enhanced with beautiful music, I was like, hmm, I can enjoy this. Overall, it's light and cute, and completely unrealistic. I don't quite find the chemistry between the leads magnetic yet. I am really looking forward to the supporting cast though. Twenty-four episodes seem a little short for the drama to cover the amount of couples there's supposed to be but then I wouldn't want anything longer for this story.

[Actors/Actresses] I haven't watched much dramas of Xu Wei Zhou and Yang Chao Yue that have impressed me. I don't think this drama will elevate my impression of them too much. I don't have a bad impression of them, they're just okay to me. It's the supporting cast I really love. Zhang Ji Xin played one of my favourite characters in "Story of Yan Xi Palace". I fell even more in love with this actress when I saw her sing and her earnest personality on variety shows. I'm really disappointed she doesn't have more dramas by now. This drama doesn't even give her much spotlight. Her character is awful, how can she sell her best friend's precious home? It doesn't even make sense. Anyways, moving on. Shi Shi is my next favourite actress in this. It seems likes she'll be playing the nasty second female lead. I'm also disappointed she's getting these small roles. The third actor I like is Li Jia Ming. He's the second male lead that won't ever get the girl no matter how nice he is. Li Jia Ming isn't the main lead type of actor but the dramas I've watched him in have always left a strong impression on me ("Love and Destiny" and "Moonshine and Valentine"). Deep down, I'm hoping this drama will be successful just to bring more spotlight to them.

[Dropped] I don't like this. I really don't. Maybe if I was new to Asian dramas, I might. I find all the girls annoying and the boys boring. The ringtone about shrimps also needs to go.
