Directed by Xie Zhong Dao, who must be close with Ou Hao because together they've done The Limbo and The Perfect Suspect, and Ou Hao even makes a cameo here.
Odd choice to make this a mini, considering the leads. Maybe it’s the morally murky FL, the genius ML who sees a particular ghost, the gruesome murders or the combination of all three.
A positive 2/5, with affection This wasn’t a show that gripped me with its plot or mystery, and I kept hoping for a deeper dive into the team dynamic. Emotionally, it stayed on the shallow end, but I still found myself smiling more than I expected and that’s all thanks to the main quartet. Each character has fun quirks: ML is a neurodiverse coroner with a “ghostly” sidekick only he can see; FL is the seemingly emotionless (triad) leader, but secretly the fiercest protector of the girls she grooms; 2ML is the muscle, the ATM, and the moral compass all rolled into one tall package; and 2FL is our brother-protector, hustling hard and chilling even more.
Qin Jun Jie – my Miss Shanghai (pageant). I spent most of the show watching QJJ react. It's good stuff! xD But seriously, he brought a lot of charm to a neurodiverse character, balancing wit and warmth without overplaying it. His performance was comfortable, layered and easily the highlight.
A "fresh" crime Cdrama. I now know why this is a mini. There’s no way this could’ve passed censorship. There’s BDSM, main characters illegally killing people, and corrupt police. Chinese gov't ain't having this, hahaha. But all that makes it an eventful ride. Nearly every episode has a little C-drama shock (i.e. shock you don't expect from a Cdrama).
