He convinces her to trust him. One by one she lets her finger go. His fingers replace hers until the bomb is fully in his hands. Once she's at a safe distance from him, the bomb explodes.
Two years later.
Mi Ka is a resident. Her class is to attend a military drilling to prepare them for emergencies. Xing Ke Lei is their training officer. Currently Xing Ke Lei is training airport staff for emergencies. All the flight attendants swarm him for his number. He gives it. When the girls leave, he takes out his two other phones. Ha, he gave them his scam account.
Mi Ka needs to take a leave in the afternoon to meet Shao Yu Han, an expert neurosurgeon who can possibly operate on her friend, Xiao Man. The training site is far from the city so she hitchhikes a car. The driver happens to be Xing Ke Lei, the trainer who never approved of her leave. He perks up at her name. He remembers her. He casually asks her how's her training, knowing she's his student. She mumbles that it isn't that realistic but it probably doesn't matter because everyone else just wants to complete the course. A not very impressed Xing Ke Lei asks for her opinions. She wants to actually learn something useful so that she can save people or at the very least not be a burden. A rather impressed Xing Ke Lei then asks about her trainers. She thinks Shu Wen Bo is fine but their actual trainer, Xing Ke Lei, is irresponsible; he isn't even here to train them. Right beside you, girl. Without revealing who he is, he continues to probe her about this "Xing Ke Lei". She tells him rumour has it that he's very scary. xD. Before she gets off this kind stranger's car, she tells him to not tell Xing Ke Lei anything. He assures her he definitely won't tell him – he already heard it.
[Ep2] Mi Ka knows who Xing Ke Lei is now. He punishes the entire class for her leave. There's a personal punishment for her: to clean all the washrooms. He's already going lenient on her because she should have been expelled. Once she leaves his office, he takes out a present that she had given him two years ago when he saved her. He kept it until now. There's a small funny scene where he examines her cleaning but she thought he was using the bathroom. He deliberately clarifies he really wasn't using the urinal. Bai Jing Ting is so cute :D
By the time Mi Ka finishes cleaning the toilets, the hot water is almost gone for the night. She's in a rush to shower but Xing Ke Lei calls her back, using "Eh!". Mi Ka curtly reminds him she has a name. Xing Ke Lei has one more chore for her to complete: clean the shower cell. I don't think the residents were allowed to shower (with proper facets and everything) but by him allowing her to have access to the shower room, he's basically letting her shower. It's not a punishment.
It's a new day. Mi Ka is washing her hair again because she thinks it smells like men-toilet. With her head in the sink, she doesn't notice it was Xing Ke Lei helping her pour water for her. As she leaves, she slips on the wet floor, right over Xing Ke Lei, very much like their first meeting – without the bomb.
Xing Ke Lei delegates the interview to Shu Wen Bo. The latter asks why. He wants to train Mi Ka the residents. Period. He's the leader, he makes the call. During the training, he calls to "Mi Ka" as volunteer. I liked that he called her but it wasn't for anything good. He fails her team for one of the task. She thinks he's holding a grudge against her but he isn't and proves it to her why she failed. Although, she knows he's right, she's still upset, so when she hands him back the helmet she drops it. With his quick reflexes, he uses his knee to kick the helmet back up. Since her little trick failed, she apologizes that her hands were shaky.
Xing Ke Lei: A surgeon’s hand cannot tremble like that. Mi Ka fails to connect her hero to this devil.
Before he leaves, he adds that she is to train with him individually. Except she gets a call from the neurosurgeon and ditches Xing Ke Lei. This time her punishment for her leave is expulsion. No excuses accepted.
[Ep3] Mi Ka waits at the entrance for Xing Ke Lei. She wants to stay. She doesn't care about passing the course per se, she wants to learn something useful here. As she's waiting for him, there's an old man who is also here for Xing Ke Lei. The man wants to thank Xing Ke Lei who had saved him before with chestnuts. Mi Ka notices the old man's injured leg. She helps him with the chestnut and sends him home. However, there's no bus back after 5pm. She's lost in the woods.
Xing Ke Lei bumps into Ruan Qing Xia, Mi Ka's friend, who tells him all about the old man (and also Ah Man's surgery to explain for her absences). He searches for her and miraculously finds her. She twisted her leg. He helps her up but her injury is too severe. We get a brief hug between the two. Xing Ke Lei offers his back for her to climb on. Mi Ka hesitates. He urges she's better get on, there's training tomorrow. There's training tomorrow!
They arrive at the infirmary but Xing Ke Lei has no idea how to treat her wound. He's just awkwardly sitting there looking at her tend to herself. How does a lieutenant not know basic first aid? Before the night is gone, he tells her to take a break from training tomorrow. Mi Ka finally hears it properly. She gets to stay.
During one session, Mi Ka's team gets the highest points because of her accurate judgement and her sense of teamwork. However, she has one weakness: she can't tie a proper safety knot. She tried to hide it from Xing Ke Lei but he notices everything of her. He even notices she didn't have a pair of gloves so he gives her his. After the training session, he seeks her out to teach her how to tie a knot but she's already asking another officer to teach her. Our Xing Ke Lei gets pretty jealous and he takes it out on that poor officer by flipping him when they were casually boxing each other.
Second Couple: Shu Wen Bo thought Ruan Qing Xia went through connections to pressure Xing Ke Lei to rescind the expulsion on Mi Ka. He realizes he wrongly accused her and apologizes by doing everything she wants. She's a reporter on site to create promotional video for the police academy. She makes him run down a building over and over again. He doesn't utter a complaint and runs until she's pleased. When one of the officers ask him whether he aggravated his old injury, Ruan Qing Xia feels bad. Then in the mail she receives a makeup palette. It's from Shu Wen Bo, the one he sorta broke when she first arrived. Peculiarly, there's a shade of green in there. LOL. What would I do with green.... This couple has so much potential. Also there's a funny scene where she's desperate to potty but there's no where to potty.
Additionally, Shen Wen Bo helps her take a pretty good selfie that makes her head looks small and legs look extra long. Everyone should be taking pictures upside down for this effect.
[Ep4] Shen Wen Bo finally drives Ruan Qing Xia to the closest washroom but a strand of her clothing is caught by the car and if she walks another step, he'd see her pink bra completely. It's already semi-showing. Ruan Qing Xia's bladder is going to burst; she cannot wait any longer. The tear grows bigger and Shen Wen Bo's immediate reaction is to turn around. She demands he take off his clothes. In this situation? She needs it to cover herself. After she leaves, it's Shen Wen Bo who's taking deep breaths. Ha.
Ruan Qing Xia finally relieves herself. From the mirror, she sneaks glances at Shen Wen Bo. He is peeking at her too. Ruan Qing Xia smiles at the shirt she’s wearing. She takes sniff at it and likes the scent.
Mi Ka has a fear of height but there’s a building test. Noting her behaviour, Xing Ke Lei takes over the rope at the bottom. Mi Ka takes a step forward but faints in midair. Xing Ke Lei pulls at the rope to keep her safe. Because of this, Mi Ka fails the course. Xing Ke Lei can't allow her to pass if she has such a fear of height. It'd be irresponsible of him.
Xing Ke Lei consoles Mi Ka that other than the height, she did pretty well. Mi Ka won't be upset because of this. She's got her life to cherish, especially when a "officer-uncle" saved her two years ago. She adds "uncle" to address the officer meaning she thought the officer was pretty old. Xing Ke Lei was smug until he heard "uncle". She doesn't understand why he's focusing on that point of her story. Even though he was masked, she's certain he has to be older because he's exceptionally calm and even though he was masked, she's certain he was handsome. That's all music to Xing Ke Lei. There's a conspicuous comment she makes about him being "white (bai)" and that's a nod to Bai Jing Ting, the actor.
The class have a graduation party at night with a campfire. Ruan Qing Xia shows up in Shu Wen Bo's T-shirt and admits to Mi Ka she likes Shu Wen Bo (the moment he took off his shirt for her, she fell in love with him, aw). Ruan Qing Xia calls Shu Wen Bo over. He quickly turns away but Xing Ke Lei pushes his buddy to her just so he can approach Mi Ka. AW.
The rest of the class pull Xing Ke Lei into a game. If anyone can make is heart rate go over 100, he has to accept a punishment. No amount of exercise can bring his heart rate near 100. However, a staring contest with Mi Ka sends his heartrate soaring. The crowd pushes her to him and his heart literally bursts.
Mi Ka needs to go the washroom. Xing Ke Lei will go with her. It's because it's far that he actually needs to drive her there. She receives a notification that nearby there's a car accident. Xing Ke Lei drives her there but it's too dangerous to pull the driver out. She insists on saving the truck driver. She will go to him. Xing Ke Lei makes all the necessary preparation for her. However, she slips and almost falls through. Xing Ke Lei hangs tight to the rope (but injures his head).
Xing Ke Lei: With me here, you'll be okay.
Mi Ka seems to remember those words – or not. Xing Ke Lei uses his own body as a plank for her to cross the bus. A bit extreme but fine, lol. She reaches the injured man and gives him first aid. Then the ambulance arrives.
Mi Ka asks Xing Ke Lei to compliment her. She faced her fear of heights. He gives her a tiny praise. She also promptly gives him an impromptu bandage around his head for his injury. It’s her pink tank top. I wonder how that happened... Now he has her tank top with him after he switched back to normal bandages. The next morning he asks his superior to sign Mi Ka’s graduation paper. He’s letting her pass after her bravery last night. The chief laughs that he mustn’t fall in love with a doctor. There won’t be anyone to take care of the family. He is the perfect example.
[Ep5] Mi Ka is back in her hospital setting. She’s stuck in an elevator with Xu Yan Shan while transporting a patient. Mi Ka is a walking disaster. There should technically be porters and nurses and not just two doctors. Anyway. Now our two doctors have to perform a surgery in there. Shao Yu Han guides them from the outside. The surgery is successful and from that experience, Shao Yu Han wants Mi Ka in his neurology department.
Xing Ke Lei is watching a drama. He chokes at the scene where the ML explain what love is: “If you meet that right person, everyone else are merely be acceptable.” Xing Ke Lei quickly closes it and complains about the movie. It’s a drama! My Sunshine! Starring Wallace Chung (and Tiffany Tang). Then he skips to another “movie”. There’s a kiss scene. It’s Go Go Squid! LOL. Drama, I love your selections. “Movie” time is officially over. Xing Ke Lei brushes his teeth and checks his forehead. He nags at the pink tank top why there isn’t a phone call. If “she” doesn’t call soon, his injury will heal. Hehe.
If she’s not coming for him, he will go to her. He even buys her a new tank top. The entire experience was too awkward for him but he did it for her. He even asks for for lunch! But she doesn’t know why he would want lunch with her plus she has a meeting. He’ll wait for her but he gets called for a mission.
On the crime scene, our Xing Ke Lei is sliding on the floor and shooting his gun like friction doesn’t exist. A comrade of his suffers a gunshot wound to the head. That sends him to the neurology department where Mi Ka is. However, there’s a limited amount of doctor and according to priority, the criminal gets to be operated on first. After more assessment, though, Shao Yu Han decides to perform two operations simultaneously. Uhhhh. Aight.
[Ep6] Both patients are okay. Mi Ka comforts Xing Ke Lei. She also voices her support for Shao Yu Han when he was reprimanded for the very risky double operation.
Xing Ke Lei is at the hospital to visit his friend. It’s an excuse! He brings flowers and asks Mi Ka to hold it. He gets down to tie his shoes and takes back the bouquet. The nurses gossip rather audibly. He smirks the she mustn’t have a boyfriend for the nurses to gossip like this. Mi Ka has another grudge against him. Why did he give her an old man’s top? He realizes he bought a size too large. Well, that’s half of it, lol.
Shu Wen Bo is also visiting at the hospital. Ruan Qing Xia is there too and bugs him for a date. She’s making bold moves on this shy guy. Thanks to Xing Ke Lei, Ruan Qing Xia gets her alone time with Shu Wen Bo. This is also helpful to Xing Ke Lei who gets to spend more time with Mi Ka. They’re taking advantage of a patient! However, the patient’s condition aggravates. They try to send him to the emergency but another patient thinks they’re cutting the line. The procedure is all messed up. What do porters and nurses do? This should not have been a problem. That patient gets aggressive and fights with Xing Ke Lei. Videos are taken and it’s gone viral. Xing Ke Lei and Mi Ka punished in their respective fields. Xing Ke Lei has detention. Mi Ka is removed from her neurology department. She’s assigned to the emergency department.
[Ep7] Mi Ka makes a huge blunder. She failed to properly assess a patient’s history and almost increased the patient’s hemorrhage risk. She’s lectured by Doctor Wei. This Doctor Wei is a good friend of Shao Yu Han. He had asked her to take care of Mi Ka. Thus, Doctor Wei is giving our Mi Ka some tough love.
Neurosurgeons come to thank Mi Ka for all the breakfast and coffee she has been buying. It’s not her. It’s Xing Ke Lei. She doesn’t know it’s him and he doesn’t know she transferred. Now that he’s visiting his friend, he knows. Xing Ke Lei argues with Shao Yu Han that Mi Ka should not have been punished. Mi Ka overhears and doesn’t like him helping her. She’s too stubborn and too proud of herself. She’s mad enough to cut ties with him. But! Xing Ke Lei makes it up. He insists on driving her home; it’s dangerous at night. Mi Ka corrects him that it’s more dangerous with him. He makes a new offer: “Then why don’t you take my car?" LOL. Mi Ka laughs at how serious he is. Her anger blows over. She gets on his car to let him drive her home.
He gets her address too. Good job boy. She was expecting him to enter her address in his navigation but he says he's the navigator himself. He keeps a conversation going (with all his questions) but she asks him if she can sleep. She’s tired. When he arrives at her place, she’s still sleeping. He’s super awkward with her sleeping right beside him. Where’s our tough officer? Xing Ke Lei loses all his aura when he’s not in his uniform xD. After Mi Ka wakes up on her own, he reprimands her for letting her guard down with a man in the car. She can’t do that anywhere else, he says. Before she gets off the car, he hands her the drink he purposely bought for her but she accidentally grabs his hand instead. That touch surprises him and he drops the drink. She sighs that he’s really her unlucky star.
Mi Ka is in her condo. She looks out the window and his car is still there. He was waiting until the lights in her condo turned on.
Next morning, Mi Ka finds out that it was Xing Ke Lei who has been buying the breakfast (by calling the contact number from the delivery guy). He lies that it was the SWAT team who bought it for the department. She believes it. On the side, we see Shu Wen Bo smirking at the blatant lie. At least Xing Ke Lei has her number now ~ Xing Ke Lei begins texting her.
Xing Ke Lei: Good morning, Doctor MiMi Ka: Good morning, Officer Xing.Xing Ke Lei: Did you just get off night shift?Mi Ka: Yes. And you?Xing Ke Lei: Me too.And so on. So polite!!! But cute. I swear neither of them are tired from their night shift anymore because of this.
[Ep8] Mi Ka treats Shao Yu Han to dinner after she learns from Doctor Wei how much Shao Yu Han values her as a student. The dinner is the most unromantic thing I’ve ever seen or heard. They’re treating food like lab specimen. After that platonic dinner, he drops her off home. Guess who’s conveniently in the area? Xing Ke Lei! Not a coincidence. He’s making Shu Wen Bo eat with him in this far far place just to “bump” into Mi Ka. Xing Ke Lei asks her about the car that dropped her off and other stuff and eventually adds oh why don’t you join us for dinner. She passes on that. He reminds her he owes her a meal and suggests they go to where she went with Shao Yu Han.
Mi Ka: You’re treating me?Xing Ke Lei : Mm.Mi Ka: If you’re treating me then I don’t want to go that little restaurant.Xing Ke Lei smiles: Alright. Then I’ll add an extra meal.Mi Ka: Alright. Then let’s do that.Did he just score two dates? xD
Second Couple: Shu Wen Bo’s mother is in the city. Ruan Qing Xia intercepts and picks up his mother for him (without him knowing). Shu Wen Bo doesn’t believe Mom when she tells him Ruan Qing Xia is pursuing him. Omg. He adds that she’s not his type. Omg!!
Back to the hospital. They’re running low on medication and there’s a traffic jam. Xing Ke Lei to the rescue~ He was visiting his friend and overhears the problem. He promises he can get her the medication in an hour using his police cars. Turning a blind eye. With the medication, the girl is saved. Mi Ka gives Xing Ke Lei a big hug.
Xing Ke Lei drives her home. He warns her to be careful on her way home since she lives so far. He recalls his last mission: it was to save a girl from a man who was supposed to be driving her home. Mi Ka’s humour kicks in, “Then I should get off the car now.”
Xing Ke Yao is back. She’s Xing Ke Lei’s sister. The first thing he asks his sister is when is she leaving, lol. She is probably the "Yao Yao" Doctor Wei mentioned to Shao Yu Han. They had something in the past. Currently, Xu Yan Shan (Mi Ka’s resident friend) is crushing on him.
Mi Ka is struggling to pay her rent but she gives her money to a parent of the little girl who needs it for surgery.
[Ep9] Ruan Qing Xia visits the police academy but Shu Wen Bo won’t meet her after she “kidnapped” his mother. Xing Ke Lei meets her instead. This is when he learns Mi Ka is homeless (because she gave her money away) and she won’t accept help unless she’s dying. Ruan Qing Xia also asks Xing Ke Lei to relay an apology to Shu Wen Bo about his mother.
Xing Ke Lei: If it’s not working, switch.Ruan Qing Xia: No! I just want/love this piece of wood!
A perfect condo falls from the sky at the appropriate price for Mi Ka. It belongs to a friend of Mi Ka’s resident guy friend (Chen Tao). Mi Ka asks him what this friend does. A government job. Xing Ke Lei. Haha. She had thought this guy was an athlete from all the workout equipment. Xing Ke Lei. After she moves in, everything turns creepy. There’s suddenly an extra carpet, a rice cooker delivered to her door when hers break, and facial masks at her table when she runs out. It’s all because of Chen Tao who’s updating Xing Ke Lei. Currently, Xing Ke Lei is staying over at his sister’s who lives in the same condominium. They’re just levels apart! Mi Ka is so creeped out, she asks Ruan Qing Xia for help. In turn, Ruan Qing Xia asks Shu Wen Bo for help. The girls tell him the renter is a creep. Shu Wen Bo is like How can our lieutenant be a creep! Ha.
Chen Tao sends a message to Xing Ke Lei that Mi Ka’s condo is out of electricity. Xing Ke Lei, who was going to sleep at the dorms, is leaving again. An officer asks him why. Xing Ke Lei’s go-to answer is “None of your business.” That’s his answer to avoid explaining all the nonsensical things he’s been doing for Mi Ka that no one can retort. Ha.
Xing Ke Lei is caught redhanded by Mi Ka but he plays it cool. He pretends he has no idea his tenant was her. That lie works. It actually works! Mi Ka never imagined that Xing Ke Lei would like her. Ruan Qing Xia teases Mi Ka on her poor dating history because she’s waiting for her "officer-uncle".
[Ep10] Shu Wen Bo’s mom is Ruan Qing Xia’s cupid. She invites Ruan Qing Xia home to cook for Shu Wen Bo. Mom gives her egg to eat but Ruan Qing Xia is allergic. Still, she eats it because she wants to try the dish that Shu Wen Bo likes. A rash shows up after dinner. Shu Wen Bo apologizes. Ruan Qing Xia clarifies, "I know your mom’s meaning. She knows I like you so she’s trying to help me out.” Shu Wen Bo is stunned speechless. It’s the first time she said she liked him this directly. There’s a lovely moment he’s lost in her eyes but he gets an emergency call. He leaves without even saying bye to Ruan Qing Xia.
A concert turns deadly when a crazy stalker kidnaps one of the staff. Xing Ke Lei is dispatched there. Mi Ka tries to call him but he’s not picking up. She voluntarily arrives on scene to help and she notices the staff is about to have an asthma attack. The kidnapper may have a bomb. He demands for a doctor to look at the girl (staff). Mi Ka it is. Xing Ke Lei is worried about Mi Ka but she insists it’s her job. Reluctantly, he puts an earpiece in her ear. They both feel the butterflies in this simple action. The feels~ He tells her to say a few words to test the earpeice.
Mi Ka nervously says: Xing Ke Lei – pauses for his reaction – Xing Ke Lei, Xing Ke Lei.Xing Ke Lei glances at her calling him. Is this the first time she called him by name?Xing Ke Lei: With me here, you’ll be safe.He then pulls up his mask.
Mi Ka realizes! He’s her hero! Or does she? But business first. She approaches the kidnapper to give the staff oxygen. Xing Ke Lei escorts her half way and confirms the bomb is indeed fake. Xing Ke Lei’s squad immediately captures the kidnapper. Everyone is safe. Mi Ka tends to Xing Ke Lei’s injuries. He’s not in pain, he’s amusingly staring at his phone because of all the missed calls from her. She lies she was just curious about the scene. Xing Ke Lei can’t hide his disappointment. She pauses the conversation as she calls his name and puts her hand in front of his face. She wants to confirm if her masked hero is Xing Ke Lei. Very timely, he's called away.
Shao Yu Han sees everything on TV. I wonder if he's falling in love with Mi Ka.
Mi Ka can’t sleep at all. She’s dreaming of Xing Ke Lei and her hero as one person.
Xing Ke Lei gets three days off for his hand injury. What will he do? Of course, it’s to find Mi Ka! He waits for her after work (but lied that it was by chance). He awkwardly tells her to leave with him without telling her where. He wants dinner but she has some research to do at home. Perfect-o. Dinner at home. Our "handicapped" Xing Ke Lei cooks for Mi Ka. He can do most stuff (and drive) but he can’t put on an apron. And thus we get an apron scene. When she's not looking, he quickly uses his injured hand to speed up the cooking. Such a dork, lol. During cooking, he accidentally – an actual accident – holds her hand. It is not an accident how he lingered on, though. I need to know the OST here. It is safe to say, Mi Ka's heart is exploding for this dork.
[Ep11] Xing Ke Lei tells Mi Ka he doesn’t have to go back – by "back" he means back to work but she thinks he's not leaving her place. Feeling hot all over, she excuses herself to the washroom. When she’s out, he’s cleaned everything. He’s a man who cooks and clean! Before he leaves, he gives her a kabedon. He glances at her and apologizes that she had to be the emergency doctor on site. She murmurs he doesn’t have to apologize, she didn’t go because of him. His face is this close to hers but it's just so he can turn off the lights. That’s it. He leaves. Huh? After that charged moment, the both of them lean against the wall, recovering from the butterflies in their stomach.
Xing Ke Lei drives Mi Ka to work. It’s super early and he lies that he’s going to the hospital to change his bandages. At the hospital, Shao Yu Han invites Mi Ka to his place – right in front of Xu Yan Shan and Xing Ke Lei. It’s a meeting with other neurosurgeons. Only after hearing that, Mi Ka agrees to go. However, Xu Yan Shan is jealous because she didn’t get an invite. Will Xing Ke Lei think of Shao Yu Han as a threat?
Shao Yu Han drives Mi Ka home. Xing Ke Lei and Xing Ke Yao spot this. Xing Ke Yao recognizes Shao Yu Han’s car. Immediately after Mi Ka enters her condo, the siblings follow in. It doesn't take a detective for Xing Ke Yao to figure out his brother likes Mi Ka. Mi Ka was nervous the entire time until she realizes Xing Ke Yao is Xing Ke Lie's sister. Before Xing Ke Lei leaves, he whispers to Mi Ka for a date tomorrow on her day-off.
Xing Ke Lei asked for the date but he hasn’t got a clue what to do. He asks his officers but they’re just gossipy. His other friend teases him for finally having a girl. Everyone’s out to laugh at him.
It’s D-day! He tries to spark a continual conversation in the car but she feels like he’s interrogating her like a criminal. She changes the topic to art. He sheepishly laughs. He just had an arranged date with a girl his sister introduced and the girl asked the exact question about art. He didn’t like it and – the girl. But he knows what he likes – the girl next to him right now. Mi Ka smiles. Also about this art exhibit, he says he can go with her. He also shares his experience with art, even getting down to the nitty-gritty. Completely different with the arranged date.
So where is this date? Well, it’s at a lavender garden. In his robotic voice he goes on to explain the size of the garden and the meaning of lavender (= romantic). Bai Jing Ting! <3. Mi Ka stifles a giggle but her smile is wide. Too bad it’s raining and the garden date is ruined. Not only that, he’s called to a mission. The date is over before it started. These two spend more time in a car than anywhere else. Both of them are disappointed. He drops her off to the nearest shelter and takes her under his jacket because of the rain. He also gives her his jacket and wraps it around her. As he drives away, Mi Ka takes a sniff at the jacket that's wrapped around her.
Mi Ka calls Ruan Qing Xia to drive her (she takes a taxi there). Meanwhile Xing Ke Lei calls his buddy (who laughed at him) to drive Mi Ka home. He’s Lu Feng. He knows of Ruan Qing Xia and is her fan. Uh oh, Shu Wen Bo has competition.
Second Couple: Ruan Qing Xia visits the academy with cupcakes for the crew. Shu Wen Bo tells her he doesn’t need it but she insists it’s for the team. Our girl isn't disheartened at the rejection. After she leaves, Shu Wen Bo has an involuntarily smile on his face. He quickly slaps himself to set his emotions straight. At work, he peeks at the cupcakes with a stupid look of love. Taking a tiny bite, a sweet smile, sweeter than the cupcake, appears.
[Ep12] Xing Ke Yao takes Mi Ka to the forbidden room. It houses all of Xing Ke Lei’s toys. He uses it to train his officers for simulation purposes. He’s gone for ten days to train but he knows Mi Ka’s laptop is broken which is why Xing Ke Yao takes her to the room to let her work on his laptop. The sister warns her to not touch his toys. If they break, he’d be after her. Well. Remember how Mi Ka is our walking disaster? She destroys everything by breathing. I exaggerate.
Lu Feng plays basketball with the guys. He tells them he’s interested in Ruan Qing Xia. Uh oh. He asks Shu Wen Bo if he’s interested in her, if not, he’s going to pursue her. Shu Wen Bo denies any interest in the girl. Eh! Luckily, his mother is on top of her game. She sets up a movie date between the two. Ruan Qing Xia brightens up when she sees him. She tells him to hold onto the popcorn (when there’s a popcorn holder) because that way when she eats it, it’s more fun xD. Shu Wen Bo, our idiot, stops her advances and tells her straight up to give up on him. They argue in the middle of the movie. Everyone is disturbed. He knows that she’s only infatuated with him because she can’t win him. Our girl is furious he belittles her feelings like that. She marches out the theatre. Even though I think Shu Wen Bo is an idiot, I do want to defend him a bit. Think about it the other way around. What if a really hot guy tells a girl he likes her because she's an idiot? I’m pretty sure a normal girl will feel insecure just like Shu Wen Bo. Later, Lu Feng apologizes to Ruan Qing Xia because he was the one who instigated that from Shu Wen Bo. I really want Shu Wen Bo and Ruan Qing Xia to happen but I can’t blame Lu Feng. Ruan Qing Xia doesn’t blame him. It’s Shu Wen Bo’s own insecurity.
Zhuo Wen Jing is the newest officer on the team. She beat all the guys including Shu Wen Bo. The guy just lost his love and now he lost to a girl. But losing to such a strong girl shouldn’t be embarrassing. I don’t like her. Her appearance is aimed at disrupting our CP. She’s seemingly interested in Xing Ke Lei.
Xing Ke Lei invites Mi Ka for dinner. He only has a few hours of free time. She suggests they go to a place closer to him. The dinner was only meant for the two of them but since there are new teammates, the dinner guests expand to include the other officers and Zhuo Wen Jing. She asks if Mi Ka is Xing Ke Lei’s girlfriend. Mi Ka peeks at him for an answer but Xing Ke Lei is shy and remains silent. He just lost his chance. He could have said “not yet”. Mi Ka can only say she isn’t. Everyone glances awkwardly at each other. They all thought our couple were dating.
[Ep13] Xing Ke Lei offers to drive Mi Ka home but seeing his buddies rushing him, she rejects his offer. An upset Mi Ka texts Ruan Qing Xia her true feelings. This was supposed to be a date but he invited all his other friends. There's also a girl there who seems pretty amazing who asks her a sensitive question about being Xing Ke Lei's girlfriend. Mi Ka couldn't say what she isn't. Then he leaves her in the rain again. As an observer, it’s so obvious Xing Ke Lei likes her but in that dinner, I have to side with Mi Ka. She isn’t his girlfriend, she can’t say she is.
Li Nian helps our Xing Ke Lei navigate the world of females. I’m so glad Xing Ke Lei recognized how much an idiot Shu Wen Bo is that he stopped talking to him. xD. I love Shu Wen Bo, but man, this guy.... Li Nian deduces Mi Ka really wanted a date, otherwise she wouldn’t have traveled so far to have dinner with him. Xing Ke Lei is relieved and happy. He promptly tests an apology listing exactly what went wrong. Mi Ka smiles at the sincerity. She replies that it's okay. Li Nian peeks over his lieutenant’s shoulder to advise him that when a girl says she’s okay it means she’s not okay. Xing Ke Lei is a good student. He immediately calls Mi Ka.
Mi Ka: Hello, Instructor XingXing Ke Lei: I’m not your instructor anymore...Mi Ka: It’s a habit.Xing Ke Lei: Today, you didn’t get wet, did you?Mi Ka: No.Xing Ke Lei: It’s already the second time I’ve left you in the rain...Mi Ka: I think so too...Xing Ke Lei quickly vows: I promise you, there won't be a third time!Mi Ka smiling cutely: If there's a third time it's okay.Xing Ke Lei: I almost thought there wouldn’t be a third chance.Mi Ka explains it’s expected of their careersXing Ke Lei: Then during our next date, you can stand me up all you want. However many you want. In English, we use "being stood up" but in Chinese it’s referred to as “releasing pigeons". Technically he said: “You can release a pigeon on me any time, however many pigeons.".Mi Ka: Us two...is that considered dating?Xing Ke Lei: Then I'll owe you an official date. When do you have time?She goes on about her schedule and he jots down everything.Such a simple call makes me so giddy~~
Well, that third date...looks like we’re getting pigeons from both sides. There’s a 7.8 earthquake in their city. Mi Ka volunteers to be an emergency doctor. Before she boards the bus, she spots Xing Ke Lei. When she turns away, he too catches a glance of her.
Both of them have yet to meet each other on site but their eyes meet from afar. He mouths, “Be safe”. She returns the sentiment with longing in her eyes. Ah ~~ He gives her a salute and leaves for his mission to save the victims trapped in rubble.
[Ep14] Xing Ke Lei smiles at the teddy bear that Mi Ka gave him two years ago. I'm reminded of how Xing Ke Lei refused that old man's chestnut but kept her teddy bear. So he fell in love with her squeamish bravery from all the way back then :D.
[Ep15] Earthquakes are still strong. Our budding couples barely have a chance to speak! Xing Ke Lei leaves an apple for a sleeping Mi Ka. Meanwhile Shu Wen Bo leaves crackers for Ruan Qing Xia. He thinks she’s mad at him because she was ignoring him. She was watching her video and didn't hear him.
Shu Wen Bo spots Ruan Qing Xia helping out the victims. She’s a reporter on site. That look of his screams he likes her.
Zhuo Wen Jing falls and can’t move. Xing Ke Lei calls for reinforcement and a doctor. Mi Ka shows up. To get to them, she needs to rope herself down a cliff. Xing Ke Lei worries for her but she assures him she can do it in heavy breaths. She does it and treats Zhuo Wen Jing’s wounds. You would Xing Ke Lei and Mi Ka can finally have a chance to talk but there’s just too much saving to do.
Xing Ke Yao is volunteering as well.
Mi Ka, Xing Ke Lei, and Shao Yu Han are dispatched to another location. There’s a flood warning and they’ll need to evacuate in three hours. However, Shao Yu Han is starting an emergency surgery. He’ll need two and a half hours. Shao Yu Han will stay and so will his staff. Saving a life is his job. Xing Ke Lei orders him to leave, protecting all of them is his job. Is Shao Yu Han really going to risk all of their lives for one patient? I think that’s selfish. First of all the environment for the surgery already puts a great risk on the patient’s future recovery and now he's putting healthy nurses and doctors and officers' lives at risk too. Shao Yu Han asks for one and a half hour. That will leave enough time to leave the site. Xing Ke Lei agrees to that time but no more. One and a half hour later: surgery done.
Shu Wen Bo and Ruan Qing Xia are elsewhere reuniting an elderly couple. She admires their love. In their conversation, she reveals she didn’t hear his apology that night. Smiling, Ruan Qing Xia gives him another opportunity to apology. Shu Wen Bo hops out of his seat to give her his sincere apology again (that her reporter career can save people too).
[Ep16] Now that Shu Wen Bo sees a new side Ruan Qing Xia, she wants them to properly introduce themselves again. He laughs but humours her. Yes! Shu Wen Bo, fall in love with her!
Mi Ka and Xing Ke Lei are off site again. It’s cold and they’re hovering around the campfire. Xing Ke Lei drapes his coat over her and now he’s coat-less. Li Nian, the smartest of the officers quickly retreats and pulls this other officer (who’s slower than Shu Wen Bo!!) back inside the tent to give our couple their sweet time. But Mi Ka isn’t too happy. Who can be in this disaster? She thought she’s seen enough death in the hospital, but here, it’s something else. Xing Ke Lei comforts her that even though it’s become a habit for her, it doesn’t mean she’s numb to death.
Mi Ka asks Xing Ke Lei if he’s going to rest soon. He’s on duty tonight. Mi Ka blushes and says: "Then I’ll stay with you for a bit.” Xing Ke Lei glances at this blushing Mi Ka (obviously she’s not blushing from the campfire) and smirks a cute one. He perks up and enthusiastically asks her what all her medical equipments are. Way to go for being romantic, but I’ll take it. When you love someone, you’re curious about everything they do. This is Xing Ke Lei.
On Shu Wen Bo’s side, they have to evacuate as well. At their new site, they don’t have enough tents so the officers have to lie on a matt next to each other like sardines to keep warm. D: In the morning, the grandma pats Shu Wen Bo saying he had it the toughest. Not only did he not get a tent, he lent his shoulder for Ruan Qing Xia to sleep on the entire night.
Lu Feng volunteers too. Him and Ruan Qing Xia find a lady who’s in labour. She needs to give birth – now. It’s a safe delivery. Shu Wen Bo hears all about it and compliments Lu Feng for “helping give birth”. Lu Feng turns it to his advantage, “Yes, I gave birth together with Ruan Qing Xia.” Lol.
Back to Xing Ke Lei’s team. They’re off on another rescue mission but Mi Ka holds his hand to stop him. She notices there’s something off. His hand is peculiarly warm.
Xing Ke Lei: Uh, it might be because I’m a 暖男 (Nuan Nan; a warm man). In Chinese that means a guy who is attentive to their partner (protective, considerate, sweet). Xing Ke Lei flirting...!
That doesn’t stop Mi Ka from worrying about him. She knows he's sick. Later they’re stuck underground. She wants to look for an exit while he rests but he takes her hand. He doesn’t want her to separate from him. However, the only opening passageway he knows of is blocked. Also, the structures around them are collapsing.
[Ep17*] Where Mi Ka and Xing Ke Lei are trapped, there’s a lack of oxygen. She gives the tank to him but he gives it to her. Breathlessly, he reminds her how she found him cheating on their date with that note he wrote on his hand. Well, he has another note but now he realizes he can already memorize it. Too breathless to speak, Xing Ke Lei leans back. Mi Ka really wants to give him the oxygen back but his grip on the mask isn’t easing up.
Xing Ke Lei: Mi Ka, colon, I want to solemnly and ardently invite you... us two...Mi Ka is losing it. Please just take the mask!Xing Ke Lei: Listen to me. I beg you, listen to me. I know I’m not perfect but I’m willing to become “固若金湯” a city as secure as one that is protected by a wall of metal and a moat of boiling water for you. I will protect you from the wind and water and give you a clear and boundless sky.Mi Ka is seriously losing it.Xing Ke Lei: I want to let you be under the sun in the flower and grass without worries or concerns and to be happy. If you like me just a bit, can you promise me to be braver just a bit, you must exit here. Mi Ka, you have to escape. I’m sorry. I don’t think I can do it (join you).
Xing Ke Lei faints over. His grip on the mask is finally free but the tank is already out of oxygen. Mi Ka gives him oxygen with her mouth. But is it enough? They both fall unconscious and finally a flashlight lands on them. They’re found and they’re safe~ I knew they were going to be safe but when the music turned sad, and with Mi Ka crying like that... I can’t help but sniffle here and there.
Xing Ke Lei wakes up and his stupid officers hang their head low when he screams for Mi Ka’s condition. Mi Ka was up way before him and is already in her white coat. She peeks around behind the guys. The officers have no intention of leaving and add that Shu Wen Bo was really worried too but that’s not what Xing Ke Lei cares about and certainly not what I care about either, lol. Shu Wen Bo is all shy xD and wants to stay with Xing Ke Lei, having zero grasp of Xing Ke Lei’s desperation to speak with Mi Ka. LOL. Shu Wen Bo, haha. Xing Ke Lei kicks them all out to finally have a chance alone with Mi Ka.
Xing Ke Lei sits up to face her: Do those words still count? I think I heard someone said she loves me, and that she loved me for a long time.Mi Ka bashfully murmurs: Weren’t you unconscious?Xing Ke Lei: Words that should be heard were heard.Mi Ka: Then... what about your words?Xing Ke Lei smiles: I... I like you. Can you be my partner?He looks at her for a bit but then shyly looks away.Xing Ke Lei in a sheepish mode: If you don’t accept me, it’d be hard for you to marry anyways. Why? Because she kissed him?Mi Ka slyly stays silent.Xing Ke Lei almost in begging mode: Can you cooperate with me for a bit? Being in love is something I can’t do alone. If I translated “Being in love” directly from Chinese it would be “Speaking of love”. And so when Xing Ke Lei says he can’t do it alone, it’s true, he can’t have a conversation alone.
The silence is prolonged. Xing Ke Lei is getting antsy.Xing Ke Lei reiterates: Can you be my girlfriend?Mi Ka steadily answers him: Yes.She reaches her hand out for a handshake.Xing Ke Lei smiles and shakes her hand: Let’s get along.
That’s not the end of this confession! He has a present for his new girlfriend. It’s the teddy bear keychain that she gave him. He saved her and now she saved him. Mi Ka is stunned he’s her officer-uncle. He hid himself until now because he didn’t want her to like him because she was grateful. He wanted her to like him because he is Xing Ke Lei
Mi Ka's steadfast answer: The person I love is Xing Ke Lei.She hugs him tightly. I don’t know it’d be possible for her to fall out of love with him at this point, xD.
Our couple hasn’t officially announced they’re dating but everyone can tell with the looks they share and with her visiting his room at least 8 times a day. The only person who doesn’t know is – you guessed it – Shu Wen Bo.
Ruan Qing Xia is leaving the city. The grandmother gives Shu Wen Bo and Ruan Qing Xia a pair of matching mittens. She can sense they’re the real pair if Shu Wen Bo is brave enough to face his feelings that is!. However, Shu Wen Bo remains passive even when Lu Feng tells him he has a renewed passion to pursue Ruan Qing Xia.
Mi Ka is leaving too. She nags at Xing Ke Lei to change his bandages routinely. He clinches her cheeks to tell her “Wait for me at home.”
At night, Xing Ke Lei is so desperate for some cellular signal he lies on his belly as stretched out as he can to send Mika a message asking her if she’s home. Next day, he asks the nurse if he can remove the bandages completely. The nurse is like okay, should I ask Mi Ka for you? Xing Ke Lei smiles a fake one and obediently puts on the bandages again.
It’s another night, and now Xing Ke Lei is jumping for signals. In his text, he tells Mi Ka he's returning home next week and adds that "the signal here is awful. It must be jealous of us.” When Shu Wen Bo catches him hopping around, Xing Ke Lei explains he’s training. Since it’s Shu Wen Bo, let’s not hope he had the ability to see through that lie.
Mi Ka endlessly asks Ruan Qing Xia what should she do for Xing Ke Lei when he’s back. Without a word, Ruan Qing Xia takes her pulse. She closes her eyes and shakes her head, “You’re done for. The illness has seeped to your bones.” xD While Ruan Qing Xia is giving Mi Ka lessons on how not to look like an idiot in love, Lu Feng is giving the same pep talk to Xing Ke Lei.
Unlike Shu Wen Bo, Lu Feng knows Xing Ke Lei was hopping for signals. When a man is desperate to call someone, it’s never for his mother, it must be for his future son’s mother. Lu Feng warns Xing Ke Lei if he keeps calling her like that then his future son will lose his mother. Lol.
Basically Mi Ka and Xing Ke Lei get their unnecessary dose of Ruan Qing Xia and Lu Feng's laws of love. It’s the same lesson: keep it cool, don’t show you care. And now, Houston, we have a problem. Both lie that they have something to do when they have nothing to do and their first date is ruined just like that. Xing Ke Lei eventually figures out she’s lying but Mi Ka doesn’t. Ultimately, she takes over her friend’s shift and now she really is busy and he doesn’t know it. Xing Ke Lei continues his plan to cook for her and asks Lu Feng to grocery shop with him. Uh oh. He ain’t planning to listen to Lu Feng anymore. Too late, buddy!
Also, Lu Feng asks Xing Ke Lei what he likes about her. To him, she's the prettiest thing. I like how Xing Ke Lei has this goofy smile on when he answers. Or maybe I just like Bai Jing Ting.
[Ep18] Xing Ke Lei arrives at Mi Ka's home (well, technically his home) and it's like a dumpster. With one functional hand, he cleans everything for her. Omg he cleans and cooks! Drama, you made him too perfect. He was about to start cooking but then learns that Mi Ka really does have a shift. With no where else to stuff his food, he calls over Lu Feng to his (sister's) place. Because Lu Feng doesn't deserve steak, Xing Ke Lei chops it into pieces for hotpot. Heh. Lu Feng ordered delivery wine (there's all sorts of services these days) and right when Xing Ke Lei opens the door, Mi Ka is just returning home! Oh whoops, I thought they lived on different levels but he's right across from her. She doesn't have night shift anymore and he invites her over for hotpot. Shoulda had the steak! At least they got the red wine and Lu Feng sensibly leaves.
The hotpot boils and our fresh couple is awkward with each other. Mi Ka breaks the ice and asks when he recognized her. He knew her when she hitchhiked him. Then when did he start liking her? The first time he set eyes on her. But wait, he was so mean to her! To him that wasn't being mean, he was just stricter with her because he cares!. Only that way, he'd feel assured she can face danger when he's not with her. Mi Ka is very, very satisfied with his answer.
Xing Ke Lei sheepishly admits he lied about being busy. He had wanted to give her a surprise but she didn't seem too disappointed he had to cancel. Mi Ka bashfully tells him she was disappointed but she wanted to be understanding. When it comes to emergencies, neither of them can help it. She cutely suggests how about they forgo surprises. He laughs and agrees that surprises doesn't suit them, haha. Oh, wait! But there is a surprise – a pleasant one. He forgot he ordered flowers. They're sunflowers! Of roses and other regular flowers, he thought sunflowers suited her best.
Mi Ka: Because my face is big?
Xing Ke Lei's chuckles. No Mi Ka, it's because you're warm. Mi Ka twinkles a sunny smile at him.
Ruan Qing Xia texts a random excuse to ask Shu Wen Bo to meet up with her. But he refuses. Xing Ke Lei is like do you want to be a monk for the rest of your life? While Shu Wen Bo is giving her the cold shoulder, Lu Feng officially declares he's going to formally pursue her. He's never failed.
Xing Ke Lei and Mi Ka are on a date – neither of them will be accepting anymore of Ruan Qing Xia and Lu Feng's laws of love. Xing Ke Lei wants to win Mi Ka a stuff animal but our doctor is germaphobic, imagine all the bacteria and mites in those things. But there is a toad she finds rather cute. She thinks it looks like Xing Ke Lei. He retorts: "Then you must be a swan." Why is that? Because there's a Chinese saying that goes like this: "An ugly toad dreams of eating swan meat" which refers to an ugly man who wants to marry a beautiful woman. Mi Ka nods, flashing another bright smile at him.
Xing Ke Lei sits down confidently for the shooting game. He shoots! Where did it go? No where in sight. Hahaha. That priceless look on his face xD. His poor ego. But then Xing Ke Lei shoots 'em all with perfect accuracy! Mi Ka smiles brightly. Now that's her SWAT officer boyfriend. The toad is theirs.
The next dating course: movie. It's a scary movie. He was expecting her to throw herself at him, but nope, her eyes are glued to the screen. Compared to surgeries, this is all too fake.
The movie is over and the two are walking down a street. He's eyeing for her hand but she's hugging the toad (=Xing Ke Lei). Mi Ka senses his hand hovering around and drops her hand for him to hold but then a cyclist zooms by them too close for comfort. Mi Ka stretches out her hand to protect Xing Ke Lei. He's like what, you want to protect me? It's a habit for her. Mi Ka's hand is still outstretched and casually, he grabs her hand into an awkward looking handshake. Then he pretends to be startled that her hand is in his (pft) and instead of letting go, he takes his hand out of the sling and holds her hand again in a less-but-still-awkward handshake. He faked his injury to win her sympathy but realizes much too late she doesn't fall for that stuff. Mi Ka giggles and asks him what are they doing with their hands right now, handshaking? Xing Ke Lei takes her hand and interlaces their fingers. Now that's the proper way.
[Ep19] Shao Yu Hao apologizes to Xing Ke Yao for misunderstanding her intentions when she volunteered during the earthquake. He thought she was promoting her business but she really was simply volunteering.
Xing Ke Yao comes home all tired and wants her brother to cook her a bowl of noodles. But he’s gotta go run. Xing Ke Yao sniffs her brother. Why smell so good for a run? Then Mi Ka comes out of her condo. Why look so good? Mi Ka lies that she’s just throwing garbage. Xing Ke Yao gets it and is like okay, ya, go “run” while I rot alone in my home with my unrequited love.
Xing Ke Lei doesn’t get why Mi Ka lied to her sister. Mi Ka is shy to meet his family so soon. Then, our shy boy also notices her unzipped jacket and quickly zips it all the way back up, not exposing the least bit of skin.
Their run ends when Mi Ka can’t walk anymore. I don’t know why she decided to go running with an officer... Xing Ke Lei rents her a bike. While she’s cycling at full speed, he easily catches up to her on his two feet. She’s too happy staring at him, she doesn’t see a car driving through the red light. Xing Ke Lei lifts her out of her seat and spins her around to carry her out of harms way. With a deadpan face, he mocks her with a rhyme on road safety (something along the lines of “cars that don’t follow road safety, family members will have roads of tears"). He flicks her forehead as punishment. Xing Ke Lei just treated our Dr. Mi Ka like she was a kid.
It’s breakfast time. Xing Ke Lei only buys one drink (with two straws). Every time Mi Ka sips it, he sips it too. The guy just wants to be couple-y but each time she asks him if she should buy him a separate drink. Then when he tells her he’s going to leave for a week, there’s no reaction from her. Her mind is all on work. She’s very excited to be back in the neurology department. Now I feel bad for him xD.
After Mi Ka’s shift, she finally processes that Xing Ke Lei is leaving back to work at night for a whole week. She offers to treat him anything he wants but he only wants to eat at the restaurant she went with Shao Yu Han and order the exact same food. Mi Ka smirks. Well, if raw pig brain is what he wants, then that’s what he gets. Lol. She gives him two options, either he eats that brain raw or he eats everything she ordered (which is alot). Xing Ke Lei gladly takes the second option but realizes Mi Ka isn’t helping him with the food at all. He can’t finish but Mi Ka reminds him there’s still the raw brain option. Poor Xing Ke Lei! At least because of that dinner, we get to see Xing Ke Lei working out at night and showing off his biceps.
At work, Xing Ke Lei inhales his dinner so that he can video call Mi Ka as soon as possible. The chat is incredibly romantic – not. She’s practicing her brain surgery technique with an egg. Okay, can we stop with the surgery and food analogy? While he’s beading rice (it’s to practice his aiming concentration). Finally we get a teeny bit of romance when he asks her if she misses him. Her answer is non-satisfactory: a teeny, teeny bit. She shyly asks him for his answer and he’s much more straightforward. He misses her – a lot. Except the romance is cut short when his officers fall through his door because they were eavesdropping on their cheesy lieutenant.
[Ep20] Mi Ka has a celebrity patient. A paparazzi takes secret photos of her patient and Mi Ka threatens him to delete it or she'll call the police. She immediately takes out her phone to call Xing Ke Lei. She didn't lie. The benefits of having a police officer boyfriend, you'll never get fined for abusing the call centre.
Xing Ke Lei manages to get an hour and a half free time. He's in a rush to see Mi Ka. First and foremost, he breathlessly tells her "I miss you." She misses him too but there's no time to dilly-dally! She immediately pull him to their date location: a convenience store.
She's curious about something: the first time they met, all her facial orifices were leaking, the next time, she was running away from class, just what does he like about her? Before she finishes her sentence...
Xing Ke Lei resolutely tells her: I like everything about you.
Alas, the opportune moment for a kiss! But Xing Ke Yao is right outside the window. Xing Ke Yao summons her brother forward. Although their family is rather open, they have their rules too. Xing Ke Lei's girlfriend must be....someone normal (i.e. can breathe and walk, and preferably not a walking diaster). Xing Ke Yao is looking grumpy but she just wants her brother to properly introduce his girlfriend the next time they meet. After side-eyeing her brother, she gives up buying stuff at the convenience store to give them their alone time. Heh.
[Ep21] Neither of them want to leave each other. Mi Ka gives him a quick peck to the cheek and attempts to run away after that but he pulls her back for a real kiss. But one isn’t enough! More! And then it’s really time to leave. Mi Ka giggling at herself after the kiss was too cute.
Mi Ka's celebrity patient has a malicious brain tumour. It's untreatable. A depressed Mi Ka goes all the way to Xing Ke Lei's training site for a hug. He doesn't know what's wrong but he hugs her back. That's all the girl needs.
Xing Ke Lei is ready to move on to the next step of their relationship: an overnight trip for Mi Ka's birthday! However, Mi Ka just learned about Xing Ke Yao and Shao Yu Han's past relationship. She wants to use her birthday party to give the two a chance to rekindle their romance. Xing Ke Lei misunderstands that Mi Ka is only inviting Shao Yu Han. He has an angry text ready to send to her that he wasn't actually going to send but accidentally sent it. Mi Ka didn't get a chance to read it because she was too busy at the hospital and now she's asleep in his car. A minute ago, Xing Ke Lei was really worried about the text but after seeing her snooze like that, he's half smiling and half complaining, just how safe does she feel with him to always fall asleep like that.
Mi Ka clears up the misunderstanding. Now Xing Ke Lei has to fool his sister to join the trip. Xing Ke Lei shrivels up a bit because his sister can literally file his skin. No worries! Mi Ka will stitch him back up! Haha. To make it less awkward, Mi Ka intends to invite Ruan Qing Xia (which means Shu Wen Bo is going too!). Xing Ke Lei sighs he'll sacrifice for his sister then. Mi Ka doesn't catch this. Xing Ke Lei changes the topic and asks why she's helping his sister so much. Is it because she doesn't want to be bullied when she marries him? Mi Ka logically replies: "How are you planning to bully me?" This is her logic. He meant his "sister" bullying her. But the emphasis isn't even there! He wants to marry her!
Ruan Qing Xia personally invites Shu Wen Bo to the trip. She tells him if he's not going then she'll think it's because she's really special to him otherwise it doesn't make sense for him to avoid her. Go girl! Ruan Qing Xia waits for him after his shift and drives him to the location. She even snaps on his seatbelt for him. Shu Wen Bo is getting the FL treatment, lol. She even makes him a lunch box with his favourite eggs. Meanwhile the simplest thing will make her happy like how he remembers she's allergic to eggs.
Xing Ke Lei successfully gets his sister to join. How? He lies that Mi Ka is planning to propose to him and she's desperate to marry him.
Mi Ka: How come you're so shameless?Xing Ke Lei: I'm only shameless to you.Mi Ka shrivels up at his shamelessness and then laughs uncontrollably. I like this actress. The way she laughs is so natural.
Mi Ka is every other couple's cupid. She gets Shu Wen Bo to go hiking with Ruan Qing Xia. Then she gives alone time for Xing Ke Yao and Shao Yu Han. When it comes to herself and Xing Ke Lei, they're stranded outside the resort without a phone or car. Well, Xing Ke Lei is happy just hooking onto her arm.
[Ep22] Third Couple: Xing Ke Yao is confident her cooking has improved and is no less than Shao Yu Han's. Smiling, he sits down for her to show off her skills. When the final product is ready to be consumed, he's impressed with her upgraded culinary skills. Xing Ke Yao strikes a conversation by asking for his thoughts on Mi Ka, her brother's girlfriend. He thinks she's pretty good. First he goes on about Mi Ka's natural talent as a surgeon. Then he compliments her ability to face her faults. She's quite like the old Xing Ke Yao, he says.
Second Couple: Ruan Qing Xia is a walking mosquito bait. Unable to bear it, she sits down and checks the bites. Shu Wen Bo has a spray and lets her keep it. But what about him? He doesn't need it. His skin is too thick for mosquitoes to dig in. With Ruan Qing Xia's high EQ, she immediately deduces the spray was meant for her all along.
Ruan Qing Xia jumps happily next to Shu Wen Bo and then sprains her leg. Unfortunately, she doesn't get her FL treatment. Shu Wen Bo just can't seem to think of carrying her at all. He assesses her and thinks she's fine but Ruan Qing Xia insists she's in pain and hobbles around. Xing Ke Lei smirks at that and he too pretends to hobble. Mi Ka plays along and massages his shoulder like that helps with a leg sprain.
This BBQ dinner puts a smile to my face. I like this group!
Everyone: They play truth and dare after dinner. Ruan Qing Xia asks Xing Ke Lei about his first kiss. He has no thoughts on it. Was the kiss in the car his first kiss? Xing Ke Yao butts in to say that with his looks, he couldn't have had a first kiss. Mi Ka gets defensive. LOL. Like really defensive. In a quiet but assertive voice, Mi Ka asks, "Just what is wrong with his looks?" Hearing Mi Ka defend him, Xing Ke Lei gets a backbone to confront his sister too – but shrivels right up when she calls him by his full name. Notice how Mi Ka is still glaring at Xing Ke Yao! xD
Next question in the game: Mi Ka asks Xing Ke Yao her ex's three habits. She lists them all and Shao Yu Han smirks. It's all his habits.
Next question: Mi Ka asks Shao Yu Han his most memorable moment of his first love. He glances at Xing Ke Yao. It was when he spent all his allowance to buy a ticket but his girlfriend couldn't leave because her father didn't permit it.
Next question: Mi Ka asks Shu Wen Bo if he likes Ruan Qing Xia. He avoids to answer and chooses dare instead. He wouldn't even give in to Xing Ke Lei's pressure. The dare is for him to call back the people on his recent call history and tell them a secret of his. The first on the list is Lu Feng but before he tells him a secret, Lu Feng goes on about pursuing Ruan Qing Xia and how Shu Wen Bo isn't against it and that just about drowns the mood for everyone. The girls change the topic to Mi Ka's birthday cake but Xing Ke Lei forgot. Even more of a downer.
Main Couple: Mi Ka cries alone that Xing Ke Lei forgot about her cake. She brightens up when he texts her for a night walk. They'll need water so he tells her to go to the back of his car to fetch them. Thinking there's a surprise there, she opens it with a smile but it's really just a box of water. Then from afar she sees a firework event.... but it's just random kids playing around.
Third Couple: Xing Ke Yao asks Shao Yu Han who he was talking about for the concert. He admit he lied. He counters "My first love, don't you know who she is?" It's Xing Ke Yao. On this starry, starry night, Shao Yu Han asks her if she's interested to admire the stars together on another night but Xing Ke Yao isn't answering (!). Instead, we get a flashback of how they broke up back in university. Her father fell ill and she had to go back to China to help her family manage the business. He didn't ask her to stay when she clearly told him she wanted him to hold her back. Shao Yu Han isn't that type of guy. It's irresponsible of him. And that's how they responsibly broke up in university.
Main Couple: Finally, there's a surprise for Mi Ka's birthday. He was trolling her all along. He decorated this little station. Inside, there are heartfelt messages he wrote for her. I like them so much so I transcribed all of them :O
- "The number one rule in dating Dr. Mi Ka is to be direct with your words. If you want to be perfectly romantic, she'll perfectly overlook it. But still, I think she's very cute" – flashback of him sipping the same drink as her –
- "Dr. Mi Ka is used to being independent and protecting others but from now on, I will be protecting her." – flashback of the bike zooming by and she protecting him with her outstretch arm –
- "The first time we met, she cried and was in a mess. Even though both her eyes and nostrils were running, I've never seen a girl cuter than this. However, from now on, I won't let her cry anymore." – flashback of when they first met – She's crying right now~
- "When Dr. Mi Ka has her eggs, she only likes her egg whites. From now on, I'll eat all her egg yolks."
- "She likes eating fried chicken while watching a horror movie. After the movie, she’ll be afraid. From now on, I’ll remember to accompany her after the movie."
- "She loves eating a lot but she doesn't know how to cook. In the future, cooking will be my duty".
- "When she smiles she's very pretty; when she's concentrating at work, she's even prettier."
- "Today is the first time I'm celebrating her birthday. I hope that from now on, I will be with her on her every birthday."
Last but not least, she arrives at the teddy-bear key-chain that she gave him except they're a pair now. He found a partner for the bear! Best birthday surprise ever! I thought they agreed on no surprises xD.
Xing Ke Lei: Forgive me for being selfish for not wanting to share this moment with anyone else.
Xing Ke Lei guesses half of Mi Ka’s birthday wish: World Peace. The other half is to become rich. Pft. She asks for her present. Hold up. Is this not enough?! Xing Ke Lei doesn’t have one. Instead he has one that he wants her to give to someone else. This someone else is the little girl who once wanted to save the world. He has a message to her: "to be protected by her feels really good." It’s a toy medicine kit for Mi Ka. Mi Ka shares that the little girl has a wish for the officer-uncle too: "Be safe."
Xing Ke Lei’s team is dispatched to a mission. But he’s sick! It’s fine, though. He just has a minor scratch – just seven stitches. That’s all. He goes to Mi Ka’s hospital for the treatment, failed at hiding his injury, and now she’s furious at him for not telling her. Smarty, why go to her hospital? The argument dissipates as quickly as it escalated. Dr. Mi Ka is cheerfully treating him with chicken feet to replenish his chicken feet hand.
Ruan Qing Xia runs to the hospital thinking Shu Wen Bo is injured. He’s a-okay but Ruan Qing Xia is met with another one of his cold rejections.
Xu Yan Shan, who’s jealous Mi Ka went on a trip with Shao Yu Han, vents to Mi Ka whether she really doesn’t know Shao Yu Han likes her. This plants a seed of doubt in Mi Ka’s heart (which is quickly dispelled by Shao Yu Han). That’s not it to Xu Yan Shan’s jealously. She goes as far to delete Mi Ka’s research paper that’s due in a day.
Xing Ke Lei goes for a checkup. His vision is narrowing but the doctor tells him it’s not his eyes. He’ll need a CT scan to examine the brain. Results are out. Xing Ke Lei has a pituitary gland tumour. Ah, our favourite trope. Can this be over in <5 episodes?
Xing Ke Lei waits at the hospital for Mi Ka who spent all night restarting her research paper. He pulls her in for a tight embrace but remains silent about his surgery. He conceals all his distress with smiles and even cooks her breakfast. Mi Ka is incapable of helping in the kitchen. She's busy swiping videos and catches a viral one of Xing Ke Lei in his uniform saving the world. This gets Xing Ke Lei thinking about his career.
Xing Ke Lei: What if one day I’m not that handsome, can’t be a police officer, will you stop liking me?Mi Ka: Impossible.
She gives him a back hug. There’s no way she’d stop liking him. She physically proves it by remaining glued to him even as he walks across the kitchen.
Shu Wen Bo directly and irrevocably shuts down all of Ruan Qing Xin’s advances. After he rejects her, he runs in the rain alone. Everyone thinks he’s training – no, the man is depressed. Shu Wen Bo is way too insecure. The girl is throwing herself at him. Why can't he get just a tiny bit of confidence from that? Is it because he thinks that once he likes her he'll love her too deeply? Is Shu Wen Bo actually our cliche female lead?
Mi Ka discovers Xu Yan Shan is the one who deleted her file. Others who also know: Shao Yu Han and Chen Tao.
[Ep25] Ruan Qing Xia is at the academy to interview Xing Ke Lei. Shu Wen Bo steals glances at Ruan Qing Xia. The other day Shu Wen Bo was completely wasted so I’m surprised to see him normal all of a sudden.
Ruan Qing Xia has a flat tire. Shu Wen Bo and Li Nian drive by and stop to help her. She hovers over him as he’s fixing her tire and then when he gets up, it knocks her off balance. Shu Wen Bo quickly pulls her back and she lands right in his chest. Li Nian ditches the two with the car. Ruan Qing Xia assumes his buddy will be back for him so she leaves too. Now Shu Wen Bo is left stranded in the middle of the street. Ha, he sorta deserves it. He needs to suffer until he can’t handle it anymore.
Shao Yu Han and Xing Ke Yao “coincidentally” meet abroad (both on a business trip).
Xu Yan Shan quits after being confronted for deleting Mi Ka's research paper. Then her mother is admitted to the hospital but she doesn’t know her daughter quit. When she does find out she throws a fit and calls her useless. Her entire family is a doctor so why can’t she do it?
Mi Ka shares Xu Yan Shan’s story with Xing Ke Lei. She doesn’t understand why Xu Yan Shan can’t truthfully share her feelings with her mother. After all, that’s what friends and families are for. Hearing this, Xing Ke Lei contemplates on telling her about his tumour but then he remembers Lu Feng’s words about never letting his girl cry. Xing Ke Lei swallows back his courage.
Mi Ka spots another injury on Xing Ke Lei. He dismisses it as minor. Mi Ka sighs that any injury on his body is a small injury. She expresses her concerns about him. He’s the captain, His health affects everyone’s safety. Xing Ke Lei laughs at her exaggeration. Mi Ka is not exaggerating. When she held that bomb, she entrusted her life to him.
[Ep26] Xing Ke Lei finally has the courage to notify his leader about his condition. He was also about to tell Mi Ka but she’s busy operating on Xu Yan Shan’s mother. Also, Mi Ka performed the surgery mostly by herself. It’s successful.
After the surgery, Xing Ke Lei confesses to Mi Ka about his tumour. Her eyes turn red. Why didn’t he tell her sooner? They could have faced it together. She reminds him she’s his girlfriend. He can be weak in front of her and he can depend on her.
Xing Ke Lei gets the support of everyone (his teammates, Shu Wen Bo, Lu Feng, etc). Mi Ka helps him tell Xing Ke Yao (which also ruins the date with Shao Yu Han). Xing Ke Yao drops everything to come back for her brother. She bellows at him for hiding the truth. Being mad is the way our girls are showing they care this episode.
Xing Ke Lei picks up Mi Ka at her hospital without a car... so they bus back home together. He conspicuously moves his arm behind her so that she can lean on his shoulder. But Xing Ke Lei is the one who needs caring! Thus Mi Ka lends her shoulder to him and he immediately leans on her like a baby. xD. Then at home, Xing Ke Yao has dinner prepared for her brother. This happens once in a blue moon. The two girls want him to rest before the surgery but he doesn’t think it’s necessary. It's him who's comforting the girls he'll be okay but Mi Ka knows he’s worried.
Shao Yu Han takes on Xing Ke Lei's surgery. He’s confident he can minimize the side effects and shorten the recovery period so that Xing Ke Lei can make it in time for the competition.
[Ep27] Although both girls trust in Shao Yu Han, they’re still worried because it’s Xing Ke Lei who’s being operated on. Mi Ka loses control and cries in front of him. Xing Ke Lei’s attempt at comforting her is to remind her she’s a doctor of all people, what if one day she needs to operate on him. Touch wood! She won’t allow that. But her sobbing has lessened. Next, Xing Ke Lei distracts her with food. She says she can’t eat.
Xing Ke Lei: I’ll feed you. Ah, I open my mouth. No wait. You open your mouth. I’m feeding you. I swear this was supposed to be a blooper but the director used it anyways. I was watching quite a few BTS and these two improvise A LOT
Mi Ka opens her mouth but he’s taking too long to feed her. He must be thinking this is so unfair that he has to feed her when he’s the one who’s sick. Mi Ka blames it back on him for making everything so sweet (Xing Ke Lei thought sugar was salt when he cooked today’s meal). Mi Ka starts crying again and Xing Ke Lei half laughs half begs her to stop and stuffs food in her mouth.
It’s Mi Ka’s turn to finally comfort the patient. She tells Xing Ke Lei that he can depend on her; he can even act spoiled around her. Xing Ke Lei's eyes twinkle and asks her if she meant it. She meant it. And so he give her a kiss on the cheek and rests his head snugly in her shoulders.
Xing Ke Lei: This is weirdMi Ka smiling brightly: Not weird at all.
The next morning, Mi Ka plans to drive Xing Ke Lei to the hospital to check in. Before driving, she recites the different gears in the car, there’s D.... Lol. Luckily, Xing Ke Yao is here.
Xing Ke Lei has one request for Mi Ka; he wants her to be the first person he sees when he wakes up. Request done. Although the surgery took twice as long to finish, it was a success.
Xing Ke Lei craves for watermelon. Mi Ka walks through countless stores to look for one. She even feeds him.
Xing Ke Yao: After your surgery, have you regressed in age?Xing Ke Lei in a robotic serious voice: How can you say that? I am your cute brother.
The two girls weren’t expecting that answer and laugh. Xing Ke Lei is officiall Bai Jing Ting, lol. Mi Ka complains that he really knows how to act spoiled now. Mi Ka, you permitted it.
Second Couple: Mi Ka asks Ruan Qing Xia to help her make soup for Xing Ke Lei. In the middle of all the disaster they created in the kitchen, Mi Ka ditches Ruan Qing Xia. Moments later, Shu Wen Bo is at the door. Mi Ka set them up for it. Ruan Qing Xia was going to hand over the kitchen duties but Shu Wen Bo starts teaching her (lol). Reluctantly, she stays.
The soup is ready. Ruan Qing Xia asks to taste it. Shu Wen Bo blows it for her to cool it down. It’s good! But then the two realize they just shared a spoon. Blushes ~
[Ep28] Mi Ka fell asleep at Xing Ke Lei’s bedside on his hand. Once she’s awake, Xing Ke Lei teases her “Oh what is this shiny thing on my hand?” Mi Ka’s saliva. Hahaha. Ruan Qing Xia and Shu Wen Bo are here with the soup. They’re rewarded with Xing Ke Lei and Mi Ka’s onslaught of sweetness (e.g. "Who needs hands when I have a girlfriend?”). No one who's single can take that type of trauma. Thus, the singles leave.
Ruan Qing Xia is running late for her event and so Shu Wen Bo drives her there. Not only that, he helps her out during the event by lifting her up so that she can steal some nice shots. She casually offers him dinner to thank him but he happily replies, “No worries! Don’t need to be that polite!” He meant it sincerely but to Ruan Qing Xia, it’s a rejection. Oh, my heart actually ached for these two in this scene. As they part, both turn around at least twice but they miss each other each time.
While our second couple is in a stalemate, our third couple is chugging along. They’ve got a concert date next week (unless Xing Ke Yao keeps up her busy act).
Xing Ke Lei is discharged but he’ll need to rest up for a month. Mi Ka cooks for him but she fails at it. It’s supposed to be tangyuan but there isn’t much tangyuan. Xing Ke Lei entertains her and eats it from his regular bowl. Mi Ka eats straight from the large pot – that way she doesn’t have to wash an extra bowl. Xing Ke Lei sighs and switches his bowl with her pot. Then she's reminded that he once thought she was fat and so she practically force-feeds him as a tiny revenge. I remember watching the bloopers for this. They kept acting this scene until Mi Ka begged the director to call cut; she was laughing way too much.
Ruan Qing Xia hires Li Nian for help with a stalker. Li Nian smartly gives that chance to Shu Wen Bo. Thus Shu Wen Bo is her trainer. While training her, she accidentally kicks him in the groin with full force. There’s even an accidental kiss on the cheek from her to him. Completely accidental.
Since Xing Ke Lei's discharge, he has been hanging out at Mi Ka's. When it's time to leave her place, he would look longingly at her closed door. I think I know what he’s thinking ~ The next morning, Mi Ka is running late for work. Xing Ke Lei runs up behind her to give her her phone. Happily, Mi Ka picks him up and spins him around. Wow.
It hasn’t been a month and Xing Ke Lei is itching to train. Mi Ka is mad but he convinces her he knows his body and he’ll always remember there’s a Mi Ka who worries for him. What can a girlfriend do but give in to her boyfriend’s desire?
Uh oh, it looks like Xing Ke Lei’s aim isn’t what it used to be. He spends the night beading rice. He calls up Mi Ka and tells her about his hands trembling. Mi Ka tells him to come for a checkup. She's worried but she’s also happy he’s telling her everything. The next day, Shao Yu Han assures him it’s not a side effect. It’s something psychological and it should heal with time.
[Ep29] Xing Ke Lei is so bothered by his hands' trembling, he can't control his temper in front of Mi Ka. He thinks she told Shu Wen Bo and now the entire team is purposely going easy on him. This becomes our couple's first conflict. Xing Ke Lei knows he's in the wrong for taking his anger out on her. Mi Ka also knows he's sensitive so she never held it against him. In fact, she even considered to apologize to him. A text from him telling her to not worry about him makes her happy again.
Xing Ke Lei is extra apologetic when he realizes Mi Ka never told Shu Wen Bo about his hand trembles. He runs to the hospital to find Mi Ka but she's busy searching for a missing patient. She's a pianist with the same side effect Xing Ke Lei is experiencing: hand trembles. She has suicidal signs. When they find the missing patient, she's sitting at the edge of a balcony at an auditorium. While Mi Ka tries to talk the patient out of committing suicide, Xing Ke Lei is working his way around to grab her down from safety. After the patient is safe, Xing Ke Lei thanks her for allowing him to show off in front of his girlfriend. Jokes aside, Xing Ke Lei sincerely shares his experience with her. They still have hope. Their career hasn't given up on them so why should they give up on their career first? Xing Ke Lei bargains a piano concert ticket out of her (+1 for Mi Ka) all to motivate her to live on.
Xing Ke Lei properly apologizes. Mi Ka says she'll be more sensitive to his emotions too. She cutely asks if they've made up. Xing Ke Lei sheepishly asks if they've truly argued. The two laugh it off. Conflict over.
Shu Wen Bo searches high and low for a camera part to fix Ruan Qing Xia' broken camera. Meanwhile Ruan Qing Xia is at the academy lecturing Li Nian for setting her up with Shu Wen Bo. Li Nian also accidentally leaks that Shu Wen Bo likes her a lot. Doesn't he notice he's got love-eyes for her? No.
[Ep30] Lu Feng puts on a romantic event for Ruan Qing Xia but our girl can't even hear his singing because all she's thinking of is how to reject him. Ruan Qing Xia is sincerely flattered but she can't accept his feelings. Her heart can only hold Shu Wen Bo.
The next day is Ruan Qing Xia's training lessons with Shu Wen Bo. This girl is on fi-ya. She's seriously attacking him. Ha. She vents at him. On one hand he's rejecting her, and on the other hand, he's secretly fixing her camera. Just what is his deal? His deal is that he wants her to be happy. That's BS to her. One minute he's tearing her heart apart, the other minute he wants her happy. He rejects her but then he goes and tells his buddies he loves her. She confronts him of giving her to Lu Feng. Is she a soccer ball to him? Ruan Qing Xia is seriously angry this time.
Xing Ke Lei tries his best to laze on the couch. He doesn't want to go back to his sister's but Mi Ka pushes him out (knowing he wants to stay). Once again, Xing Ke Lei stares at the shut door and smirks, "I swear I'll return to my own home." Hehehe.
The next morning, Xing Ke Lei pretends to skip rope to wait for Mi Ka. Our Bai Bai, I mean Xing Ke Lei is so clumsy with his rope xD. Mi Ka also dresses up extra feminine in case he does anything romantic. She knows (thanks to Ruan Qing Xia) that he's going to be relentlessly impressing her these days just so he can stay over.
Xing Ke Lei is rushing his recovery. During dinner, he'd be training his grip in his non-eating hand. Mi Ka lectures him and he immediately obeys. He gives her the authority to command him just like how he was her trainer before. Mi Ka takes advantage. She orders him to repeat after her "Instructor Mi Ka, you sure are pretty." Xing Ke Lei had such a fake smile when he said it.
Xing Ke Lei continues his training after dinner. As he's working those biceps, he asks Dr. Mi Ka whether she thinks his body is swollen lately while flashing those muscles. Mi Ka is busy meditating. Xing Ke Lei continues to tempt her and now he finds his abs are fragmented in (6) pieces. Jeeeeeez, lol. Mi Ka is too in her zone to notice. Not. She's just ignoring his advances.
Mi Ka continues to torture him knowing he's trying to get on her good side. With a wag of her finger, Xing Ke Lei takes out the garbage. With another wag of her finger, she wants him to come eat from her chopsticks. Xing Ke Lei stands there, glaring (lovingly) at her, "Overboard, now." Mi Ka has a laughing fit. Are these two just being plain Bai Jing Ting and Ma Si Chun? xD.
[Ep31] Xing Ke Yao brings Shao Yu Han home. She’s returning him his camera that she borrowed eons ago. Xing Ke Lei takes advantage of this. He starts mulling to Mi Ka it must be his fault his sister can’t get married. What kind of brother still lives with his sister? That will turn off any man! He sighs that he should go back to his dorm. He adds that driving there this late is dangerous. Mi Ka smirks. She sees through his antics but lets him worm his way into his her home. I LOVE the grand opera poses he makes once he stepped back into his territory xD. The next morning, they fight for the washroom. So romantic.
Two random sisters visit Xing Ke Lei. They’re family friends. They obviously want Xing Ke Lei for themselves and ignore Mi Ka’s presence. Who do these two annoying people think they are? The younger sister insists on staying at Mi Ka’s but Xing Ke Lei convinces them to stay at a hotel. Then at the hotel, the older sister puts on a crying act to win his pity. Omg, the more I watch these two, the more annoyed I get!! The only good thing I hear from their annoying mouths is that they’re afraid of Xing Ke Yao because she's scary. The sisters are confident Mi Ka will never get the approval of Xing Ke Yao (ha) or his family. I remember Xing Ke Yao saying their family’s standards are humans. And the sisters obviously don’t qualify. If the sisters can’t live in Xing Ke Lei's home, then they’ll make him return home late. The purpose: to make Mi Ka jealous. The reality: Mi Ka is chowing down on food while watching her surgery clips. Jealousy? Psh.
Second Couple: Shu Wen Bo is going to pursue Ruan Qing Xia! It took a few punches from Lu Feng to motivate him.
[Ep32] Xing Ke Lei isn’t sure if Mi Ka's mad and so he prepares something for the entire night. Xing Ke Lei, you overestimate Mi Ka's EQ. The next morning, he’s got breakfast ready and a chart of relationships to explain the Shen sisters. This reminds me of Who’s the Murderer! Mi Ka pretends to be angry when she’s actually enjoying the special treatment. She slams the door on him and Xing Ke Lei “kneels” for her to forgive him. Mi Ka suddenly opens the door to give him a surprise kiss which is followed by a slap on the forehead. Are you silly? How can you not differentiate when I'm actually angry? Mi Ka closes the door on him again. Xing Ke Lei, our doofus, sighs that he really can’t tell. Lol. But he can tell she’s not angry now. Omg, I’m smiling at our doofus.
Shen sisters are admitted to Mi Ka’s hospitals. They spread rumours via the janitors that she’s Xing Ke Lei’s ex-girlfriend. Mi Ka complains to Ruan Qing Xia. Xing Ke Lei overhears and he too is angry at these rumours. The next day he makes a fake phone call in front of the janitors to correct the rumours.
[Ep33] Shu Wen Bo mailed the fortune cat (a limited edition Maneki-Neko?) to Ruan Qing Xia. However, she thinks it’s from her crazy stalker and chucks the package in the garbage. Shu Wen Bo purposely snuck around to see her reaction and now he thinks he’s rejected.
Mi Ka comes home and the house is all dark. Thinking she's all alone, she changes into a long shirt. When she turns on the light, Xing Ke Lei is hanging himself, his feet dangling around. Mi Ka quickly grabs onto Xing Ke Lei thinking he’s committing suicide. No, the dude was training his velocity pulls on a hangboard. He eyes travel downward to Mi Ka’s legs. She’s not wearing any pants. Mi Ka orders him to look up at her face, lol. She strikes a nonversation only to have him look down at her legs again.
Annoying Shen sisters are vilifying our drama. They want to latch onto Xing Ke Lei and so the younger sister hides herself. That forces Xing Ke Lei to be the older sister's only guardian.
Ruan Qing Xia’s stalker attacks her. Shu Wen Bo was safeguarding at her place and pins down the stalker. After the stalker is arrested, Shu Wen Bo realizes she threw away the cat because of the stalker and not because him. Ruan Qing Xia storms off in frustration that she threw his cat away. Shu Wen Bo cheers her up that he can buy her a new one. She stops in her tracks and turns to face him.
Ruan Qing Xia furrows her brows: Shu Wen Bo, do you like me?Shu Wen Bo: I.... I do. I like you.Ruan Qing Xia: How come you didn’t say it earlier?Shu Wen Bo: It’s my fault, my problem.Ruan Qing Xia: Will you change?Shu Wen Bo: I’ll change! I’ll change now! I didn’t think I was suitable for you. I always thought you and Lu Feng were a better match. I also never had the courage to tell you. [Ep34] Shen Sisters are at it again. Now that Xing Ke Lei is busy with his training, they spread rumours that Mi Ka and Shao Yu Han are having an affair. Thus, Shao Yu Han brings his real (un/official) girlfriend, Xing Ke Yao, around the hospital. Immediately, the rumours quell. Also, the sisters quiver at the sight of her.
Xing Ke Lei doesn’t win the individual competition but he brings his team a big W. He was going to call Mi Ka but he returns his sister’s call first. Xing Ke Yao doesn’t care about his competition, she wants him to sort out those sisters who have these remarkably punchable faces. Xing Ke Lei doesn’t have a solution. He begs his sister for help. Thus, Xing Ke Yao clears ‘em up. I say she went easy on the sisters but I'd give anything to not have them on my screen any minute longer.
Xing Ke Lei cheers up Mi Ka who has been harassed by the sisters. She wants him to “hong” her. And so Xing Ke Lei goes “hong hong hong” He’s imitating a train going “hong”? Whatever it was, it was cute. Xing Ke Lei invites Mi Ka out for dinner but that date is short-lived. Ruan Qing Xia calls Mi Ka to complain about our blockhead Shu Wen Bo. From being Mi Ka's official boyfriend, Xing Ke Lei has become the lightbulb to the girls.
Indeed, Shu Wen Bo is a hopeless boyfriend.
[Ep35] Mi Ka is quarantined. She may have contacted MERS. Xing Ke Lei doesn’t know because he’s on a mission.
[Ep36] Mi Ka is okay. Her test results are negative. When Xing Ke Lei is home, Ruan Qing Xia gives him attitude. Although Mi Ka was afraid, she was also worried about Xing Ke Lei during his mission. That’s why she didn’t text him her condition. She didn’t want to add to his pressure. Xing Ke Lei reminds her that she told him to leave his courageousness to others but his weakness to her. He wants her to do the same. Mi Ka finally cries in his chest.
Mi Ka and Xing Ke Lei finally get to go on their beach date. Not. Xing Ke Lei is on call for another mission. At least Mi Ka has Ruan Qing Xia. So convenient now that she’s dating Shu Wen Bo. When the boys ditch them, they have each other. However, Mi Ka is seriously contemplating their relationship. Both their careers are too irregular.
Shu Wen Bo is planning to propose! He’s taking back all the time he wasted. He asks Xing Ke Lei for help to choose a ring and in turn Xing Ke Lei asks Mi Ka to choose a ring. Oh, the misunderstanding, lol. Mi Ka thinks there’s a proposal for her on the horizon. Meanwhile the salesperson thinks there’s something something between the boys when they’re so amused with the rings on their hand they even hold hands.
There’s a discount at the jewellery store: 20% off if they get a second item. Shu Wen Bo’s eyes sparkle at the discount and now he’s pressuring Xing Ke Lei to get one. Xing Ke Lei isn’t falling for that (but he really should, poor Mi Ka).
[Ep37] Mi Ka learns the ring is for Ruan Qing Xia. She is so disappointed. Xing Ke Lei is unaware of her feelings but now he’s seriously considering proposing! He asks his sister for advice. At one point in the conversation, Xing Ke Yao scorns him for being being a spoiled cutie brat in front of Mi Ka when he’s serious to everyone else. She has video proof of it. We all have video proof xD.
While Xing Ke Lei is considering marriage, Mi Ka has applied to practice medicine abroad for two years. If she does well, she can stay for three more years. It’s pretty much an enclosed facility working like a zombie around the clock with no free time. Doctors that come out of that program are the top elites. She wants to go but if it means breaking up with Xing Ke Lei, she also doesn’t want to go.
Shao Yu Han is looking for a house. He asks Xing Ke Yao to find one with him ~ She’s like Isn’t this a big thing? Yes. That’s why he’s asking for her help. He wants to live with her.
Shu Wen Bo proposes in his dorm! It’s so plain, lol and so Shu Wen Bo. As he's proposing, he's crying. xD. Ruan Qing Xia accepts.
Xing Ke Lei learns of Mi Ka’s plan to study via Shao Yu Han. Back in her home, Mi Ka finds a ring; she knows Xing Ke Lei is planning to propose. What are these two going to do? Mi Ka runs out to find Xing Ke Lei. She cries, “I’m not going.” Xing Ke Lei softly smiles and hugs her. He won’t stop her from going. He knows that’s her dream. He doesn’t want her to regret it.
Mi Ka takes out the ring. Xing Ke Lei bashfully ducks his head and admits he wanted to propose. Mi Ka takes the proposal onto herself
Mi Ka: Are you willing to take me as your wife for better, for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, 'til death do us part? If you’re willing then take this pinky promise to vow that two years later you’ll give me a proper proposal.
He pinky promises her. He will wait for her.
Ruan Qing Xia is trying on her wedding dress. She’s found the perfect one and since they have time, she makes Mi Ka try one too. When Shu Wen Bo and Xing Ke Lei arrive, there’s a girl (with black hair) in a white dress.
[Ep38] Xing Ke Lei sees Mi Ka in a wedding dress. He is stunned by her beauty. He’s regretting. Big time. Xing Ke Lei gives Mi Ka a present. It's a necklace with her engagement ring. At the very least, she must wear something that signifies she’s his.

Shu Wen Bo and Ruan Qing Xia have their wedding photoshoot!
Then there’s a wedding party (not a wedding because they’re holding it at Shu Wen Bo’s hometown). Lu Feng is happy for them.
Mi Ka is emotional after she hears Shu Wen Bo confessing “I love you” to Ruan Qing Xia. She’s never heard Xing Ke Lei tell her that. She asks him if he loves her. Xing Ke Lei takes a while to answer:
Xing Ke Lei: You should ask me ‘How much do I love you?’Me being a party-pooper: Mi Ka, ask him and I betcha he won't know how to reply.
Mi Ka is abroad. Xing Ke Lei has a two year calendar that he marks on with each passing day.
Our other married couple is getting cuter and cuter.
After some time, Mi Ka is back to give Xing Ke Lei a surprise visit!
[Ep39] That surprise visit turns out to be quite the bombshell. Mi Ka gets on a long distance bus. Her one kind action of letting a passenger know his bag is being stolen ends up exposing some smuggling action and now the whole bus is under hostage. Great job Mi Ka. One of the smugglers are injured and they need Mi Ka's expertise but our Doctor Mi gives them so much attitude. Is she not afraid? She demands for this, this, and this if they want her help.
Xing Ke Lei is called to duty. Realizing it’s Mi Ka on board, he pretends to be the doctor on scene to help her. They suspect him of being a police officer but he passes the test when the smuggler makes him identify the equipment in the kit. Ah, so that kit scene in Ep16 was for this. Nice. Mi Ka remains arrogant to the smugglers, demanding them to release the hostages – women and children first. Well. The smugglers do the exact opposite. Everyone but children and women can leave. Sorry guys, y’all may think Mi Ka is brave but I think she's creating more of a mess with her arrogance.... If she graduated from her course on emergencies, hostage situations, etc. thirty episodes ago, there should be a lesson on DEESCALATION. I have no idea why the smugglers are keeping her alive. If I were them, I’d shoot her down. Now. Then I’d demand the police for another doctor.
Xing Ke Lei is exposed as a fake doctor. The smuggler find out Mi Ka and Xing Ke Lei are a couple via Mi Ka’s phone wallpaper. Uh oh.
[Ep40] Xing Ke Lei is tied up but when he realizes his SWAT team has infiltrated the area, he takes the appropriate risk and shoots down the smugglers. The leader has Mi Ka hostage. To protect her, Xing Ke Lei suffers a knife wound to his lungs while fighting the man. Mi Ka takes the gun and shoots the man. Then she performs an emergency needle decompression for Xing Ke Lei’s tension pneumothorax.
Xing Ke Lei wakes up. He has amnesia! From a chest injury! Nah, he’s pulling her leg and she knows it. Playing along, she lies she’s his mother. Jokes aside, Xing Ke Lei is counting the times she saved him. It’s twice and he only saved her once. Now, he can only give his body to repay her.
Xing Ke Yao and Shao Yu Han are in marriage mode.
Chen Tao and Xu Yuan Shan meet again. He was never over her and she's opening up to him.
Ruan Qing Xia and Shu Wen Bo are happily married. They’re also getting a new addition to their family. She’s pregnant.
Xing Ke Lei is planning something! They’re supposed to go abroad for a trip. He’s been saving up his day-offs for this. They’re packing up their suitcase and of course Mi Ka’s looks like it’s been ransacked while Xing Ke Lei’s is neatly organized. Before they head to the airport, he wants her to go with him to his camp first. Mi Ka realizes she lost her ring but there’s no time to look for it.
They reach the academy and revisit their old memories (e.g. how he was jealous of Li Nian, and how he made her clean the shower). He takes her up to the roof where she failed her test. When she looks down, there's a proposal: "Dr. Mi, Marry Me.". He’s also got her ring. He kneels down to pop the question. Without answering, she runs to him to give him a kiss. Of course she’s willing.
The team helped out with the proposal and Li Nian is expecting a feast tonight but Xing Ke Lei and Mi Ka ditch them. He takes her to see a night scenery of the city. He’s apologetic about one thing: he’s a police officer and can’t always put her first. Mi Ka understands. It’s not like she can control herself to stop loving him just because of this. She knows what he needs to protect isn’t just her but the entire city. I think this line is very Xing Ke Lei and very romantic. See ending discussion!

Remarks
[First Impression (Ep1-6)] I don't know how to be objective when I see Bai Jing Ting in his coolest character of his acting career. He's in a uniform! He's got that manga look to him with that narrow waist and broad shoulder. I love it. His character is a SWAT officer. From an incident two years ago after he saves our FL, he’s taken a notice of her. He begins to pursue her but our FL is too focused on her career to notice. She’s not a dumb FL, just career-oriented.
Romance wise, this is one of the best premieres in 2021 for me. Because of this, my eyes are now heart-shaped. For the first four episodes, this is all romance. The small things Xing Ke Lei does for Mi Ka makes me giddy. I adore the second couple too. The girl is bold and the guy is a block. There should be a third couple but there isn’t much on them yet.
The weakness of the drama comes in the fifth and sixth episodes where it focuses more on career. There’s overly dramatic scenes of our SWAT officers in action. There’s also these ridiculous situations the doctor get themselves into. I complain about them but I also turn a blind eye on them. I am clearly watching this for the romance and Bai Jing Ting.
[Actors/Actresses] I like Ma Si Chun’s portrayal of Mi Ka. It’s all natural and yet it’s not plain. She’s not trying to be cute at all. She’s earnestly grounded in her character. There’s Jiang Pei Yao (from Go Go Squid). From crushing on Xiao Mi, she’s now crushing on Shu Wen Bo. I love this actress’s sunniness. Chen Hao as Shu Wen Bo is also a great find. He’s a very cute wood. Last but not least: Bai Jing Ting. He started off as this really cool guy and then as he’s in love, we see that he’s actually an idiot and being cool was just facade. It’s so Bai Jing Ting.
[Behind the Scenes]
- Weibo: After the finale, Ma Si Chun and Bai Jing Ting said goodbye to their characters. Bai Jing Ting tells Xing Ke Lei to not bully Li Nian too much but the more interesting message was Ma Si Chun's. She tells us Xing Ke Lei and Mi Ka have a child together: Xing Da Mi (邢大米) where it’s a play in their last names and 大米 itself means rice.

The last conversation between Mi Ka and Xing Ke Lei about him needing to protect the city is a throwback to the Chinese title "你是我的城池營壘”, 城池 means City. The entire title is "You Are My City Army Camp.” It doesn’t sound better in Chinese than it does in English. Essentially, he is the protector of the city. But it has a sweeter meaning if you link it back to the way Xing Ke Lei confessed in Ep17. He said he would be “固若金湯” – a city as secure as one that is protected by a wall of metal and a moat of boiling water. Xing Ke Lei is owning up to that confession metaphorically and literally. His way of loving Mi Ka is to protect her and what better way to protect her than to safeguard the city that she’s living in. Xing Ke Lei is the city that’s protecting her.
[Review] As a fan of Bai Jing Ting, I am in love with this. I’m so happy that he of all actors got to be Xing Ke Lei. When his character is in uniform he gets to be smelting hot and when he’s in day clothes he gets to be adorkably cute. I’m melting on both ends. Currently, am a puddle.

My favourite is the beginning when Xing Ke Lei so boldly and yet so shyly pursues Dr. Mi Ka. He makes my cheeks go rosy. The type of sweetness in this romance isn’t a rush of adrenaline and sugary until it’s sticky. It’s a sweetness that seeps into my heart. It’s clean and it’s fresh. It’s warm and it tickles. It’s relaxing and yet teasing.
I really like the second couple too. Shu Wen Bo and Ruan Qing Xia were bound to get together, I just didn’t think Shu Wen Bo would be such a wuss and for so long! It’s better them suffering the long wait to get together than our main couple, right? There’s also a third couple. They get very little screen time compared to the other two couples. They’re more mature, slowly rekindling their lost love.
All six leads are likeable and relatable (maybe not Shu Wen Bo, heh). Then the drama throws in more likeable people – minus two specific girls – and this whole drama becomes this feel-good romcom. Forty episodes might be a tad too long but at the end of it I was sad to let it go.
