[Ep2] The segment with the ex-girlfriend and Dark Meng in the makeup room was amusing. Shen Yi is just sitting there minding his own business while the two girls are fighting over him. Dark Meng wins at every battle. Dark Meng is actually Cute Meng as she makes her move on Shen Yi. Her psychiatrist, Ah Tou, had once said that Dark Meng is the ego that allows her to achieve her inner desires, which means there must be something inside her that wants him.
[Ep4] Shen Yi is now very committed to the relationship. He wants the foundation at all cost and he needs Cute Meng to recover. He's willing to put in time and money to make her happy. However, love isn't something that can be bought with money (or time). She wants his sincerity and he's got none to show.
Meng Hui is harassed at a bar. Shen Yi is so angry he punches the man and he knocks over an entire wall of drinks. The man blames it all on Shen Yi. Shen Yi still boiling with anger but Meng Hui quickly runs to his side and holds his hand. With her at his side, he calms down and says he'll pay for everything with charisma. This reminds me of the beginning episodes where Meng Hui asked him if there was any girl he'd be willing to spend money on. Well. The answer's pretty obvious now. 
[Ep18] Shen Yi and Meng Hui make out. It’s a looooooooong scene. They knock over anything possible. It doesn’t matter if the alarm clock is ringing or how many times her elbow and head is banged, they can’t separate their lips until they both roll over the small couch. It becomes extremely awkward between them as they sit far far away on the couch. The TV is turned on and guess what’s playubg. It’s "My Youth" on TV and they’re making out there too. Ha. Shen Yi's passion is still burning after the kiss. He wants to marry her instantly. Thus, they’re officially married. Off topic but I just noticed the Pikachu claw machine in his room. He’s got unlimited tries now. xD.
[Ep19] Meng Hui doesn’t think Shen Yi loves her and is just making it up to her for the scar he gave her. Dad convinces her a little that she’s definitely changed his son. Shen Yi is willing to call him “dad” because of her. Does dad successfully convince her? I think not. Sigh.
[First Impression (Ep1-6)] I loved "My Youth". The sweet youthful chemistry between Li Jia Qi and Zhao Yi Qin had sucked me into that drama. Having the same actors reappear as another CP makes this a must-watch for me. Are they able to make magic happen again? I don't know. The story is a little weird. She's got a delusion of grandeur that supersizes her ego because of the scar she had sustained when she was younger. The person who gave her the scar is the male lead. Neither of them know that yet and now he has to date her alter ego so that he can get his hands on her foundation that can cover scars. She think it's real dating and he's faking it for the foundation. By Episode 4 she's already suffering heartbreak. By Episode 5 his attitude towards her takes a complete 180. It's no longer her pursuing him. It's him pursuing her. I have to say it's Episode 5 that saved this drama a bit for me. I much prefer having a normal Meng Hui and a sincere Shen Yi interacting. I also like the little heartfelt messages from Meng Hui at the end of each episode.
[Actors/Actresses] Li Jia Qi is playing Dark Meng better than I expected. She's so tiny and cute to have her play sexy so I'm glad she pulled it off. Zhao Yi Qin is still cute from Fake Princess. Although I do prefer him being a little colder such as in "My Youth". Fan Zhi Xin plays Sui An. I'm impressed by this actor. The first time I saw him was in Mountains and Oceans. I don't want to talk about that drama. Despite that awfulness, he did leave a favourable impression. Then I saw him in Eternal Love of Dream and he continued to impress given the small amount of screen time he had. I'm definitely in this drama more for the cast than for the story.
[Episode 9&10] I'm liking this drama more and more. It's deeper than I thought. I’m loving the theme in each episode that’s summarized (@Bai Ri Meng) using makeup as the premise. It is these episodes that have tapped into the drama’s essence: the insecurities of imperfection. Xu Xing Yao and Wei Lei’s pursuit for perfection has led one to an eating disorder (bulimia) and the other to an obsession with beauty (a plastic monster). Meng Hui says her scar doesn’t affect her but when others judge her because of it her self confidence shatters. This drama follows the journey of how these girls find the perfect balance to their imperfection. The Chinese title makes a lot more sense now. Imperfection is beautiful thing.

[Ep1] Shen Yi and Meng Hui are strangers who met on the bus. Shen Yi asks Meng Hui if she can pay his bus fare because he forgot his pass. She kindly does and even gets out of her seat to pay for his fare. He's busy on his phone talking about his billion dollar business. Everyone on the bus snicker at his phone conversation especially when he makes a fuss at her for paying with coins. There's a twenty cent difference paying with coins vs. a pass. When he pays her back he makes sure he only pays her $1.80 RMB vs. the $2.00 RMB she paid. Meng Hui is flabbergasted that she met someone so rude.
Shen Yi has one principle: to not spend anymore than he has to. He's a stringent and frugal CEO. He's notorious for being cheap in his company. His business has one goal. Contrarily, it's not to make money. He wants to create a foundation that can cover scars and it doesn't matter how much money it'll cost.
Meng Hui is a makeup artist. She has PTSD from a facial injury she suffered when she was a child. Whenever she has a lapse her entire personality changes. From the sweet kind girl that she is, she transforms into a haughty, confident, and sexy young lady. In order words, her PTSD's symptom is a multiple personality disorder. In her alter ego, she applied for a job interview as a makeup artist.
They meet again at an idol show where he's a sponsor and judge while she's a makeup artist. An employee of his knock down all the makeup he sponsored for the show. Although they're empty containers, he still demands the employee to compensate for the full cost. The logic is this: he'd still have to buy a new set of makeup and empty the bottles to replace the broken ones. Meng Hui feels guilty because it's partially her fault that the employee knocked over the table. Meng Hui finds Shen Yi at a restaurant to take the blame. He's curious how she knew he was at this particular restaurant. She tells him because this is the cheapest one around this area, ha. Her sincerity reaches to him and he recedes his penalty on his employee.
After being triggered by Shen Yi's ex girlfriend (Wei Lei, an idol contestant on the show), Meng Hui's personality changes. Let's call her Dark Meng for now. She's facing a potential layoff because Wei Lei found out about the lies on her resume. Dark Meng appears and reveals that she's Bai Ri Meng (Daydream), the famous social media star who can make any makeup product sellout. She also makes a move on Shen Yi. He is visibly shook and mesmerized by her seduction.
Meng Hui's ending voice over: "Foundation is the base of our makeup while trust is the foundation of love." The voice-overs are captioned on the screen at the end of every episode. They always being with a handle "@Bai Ri Meng is thinking of home." These are like little messages that Meng Hui has posted on her social media account sort of like diary entries.

After a video of her cutely thanking her "boyfriend" is broadcasted live, Shen Yi explodes at his secretary, Jiang Jiang. He also publicly embarrasses Meng Hui (who's no longer Dark Meng) which has led to her peers bullying her at work. He feels guilty for it and learns of her multiple personality disorder (more specifically a delusion of grandeur). He pities her and apologizes for his attitude towards her earlier. He asks her why she wants to be a makeup artist. Her reply is: "I want to make people pretty." She asks him too why he wants to make foundation: "I just want to make one girl pretty."
A glimpse of the past: Shen Yi's name was "Zeng Jue". He's the kid who gave Meng Hui her scar. To this day he's still bothered by it. When he was a kid, it seemed like he lied about Meng Hui provoking him when it was him who was recklessly attacking others.
@Bai Ri Meng: "Scars are sometimes freckles, acne, they're scars that people aren't willing to show. The flawless ones are fearless, the scarred ones are fearful."
Second couple: Ah Tou and Jiang Jiang. Jiang Jiang made an appointment with her to assess his psychological disorder. For the past two years working under Shen Yi, he has developed an anxiety disorder. Basically everything he does is a symptom from touching his phone, to being polite, to wiping his shirt. I think I have a disorder too. When he learns of the extravagant cost of her services, he tells her, "I might as well just stay sick." Haha. So real.
[Ep3] Meng Hui is Dark/Cute Meng again and this time she wants a date with Shen Yi. Cute Meng doesn't know that he doesn't like her. Neither does Shen Yi refuse her because he knows she's not her normal self. Ah Tou recommends to indulge her in her desires. Thus they have a date together. Their dating course consists of a dinner, the amusement park, a claw machine, and a ride home. He so stingy, my gosh. He won't let her order for dinner and keeps their food at the minimum cost the restaurant has set. He used a free coupon admission ticket and that's why they're unable to ride the merry go around that she really wanted to. He called his secretary for a ride home which means he wants a bike at their service. Still, Dark/Cute Meng likes him.
He was willing to indulge her (with the limited amount of money he's willing to spend) until she made a public statement that he will never be able to make a foundation that can cover scars. He ruthlessly tells her their relationship ends. However, from his ex, he realizes Meng Hui's foundation has the ability to conceal scars. He immediately cancels the "breakup" and apologizes. He pulls her in for a hug but his eyes are glued to her foundation set.
@Bai Ri Meng: "If you only have 10% of sincerity, then there's no way you can win 100% of the other person's trust."
[Ep4] Shen Yi is now very committed to the relationship. He wants the foundation at all cost and he needs Cute Meng to recover. He's willing to put in time and money to make her happy. However, love isn't something that can be bought with money (or time). She wants his sincerity and he's got none to show.
There's a misunderstanding between them. Shen Yi thinks Dark Meng purposely hit Wei Lei's face. This reminds Shen Yi of his past and he cannot forgive Dark Meng for it. However, it was Wei Lei who fell because of her own trap that she had set for Meng Hui. At the very least, Wei Lei clears Meng Hui's name. Shen Yi apologizes to Dark Meng. She accepts it but she wants to break up with him.
A glimpse of the past: Meng Hui had helped him when he was bullied. She never gave him her name though because good people who do good deeds don't leave their names. BS. The bullies attack her and he picks up his courage to protect her but in the process he injures her face with a permanent scar. Ah. Meng Hui carelessly got her face scarred. I don't think he should be blamed. He didn't have an intention. He can only be blamed for being reckless.
Wei Lei is gone from the show temporarily but we get another annoying female character: Xu Xing Yao. She works with Shen Yi and purposely exposes her scar on live TV. Shen Yi recognizes the scar and rushes on stage to protect her. He tells her, "Let's being anew again."
Third couple: Sui An and Wei Lei. Sui An is Shen Yi's plastic doctor buddy. He's always buying stuff for his stingy friend but uses the excuse that he got them in the wrong size that happens to be Shen Yi's size. He tells Sui An that from now on, he is in charge of her nose. What a swoon-y comment to use on a nose.
@Bai Ri Meng: "When we take off our mask we'll have a new start."
[Ep5] After learning Meng Hui is the girl he injured, he's set on being her boyfriend and making her life right. He's doing this out of guilt. However Meng Hui is back to her normal self. She no longer wants him to be her boyfriend. However, he still wants to help her. He sends her to Sui An to see if he can operate on her scar. Shen Yi is willing to spend his entire fortune on her or more specifically, on removing the scar. She's fed up with his antics though. I must ask this question. Why? He's giving her everything she (uh Dark Meng) had wanted but she just wants him to leave her alone. She tells him she doesn't have his magic foundation. Shen Yi no longer cares about that though. He wants to be the angel in her life.
After ruining the show, Meng Hui feels bad and pays a visit to Shen Yi's home to apologize to him. His home is shabby. Very shabby. He also doesn't have a lot of nice clothes to change into. While he's in the kitchen, she comes across all his certificates for his donations. He had covered it with a curtain. This reminds me that he's keeping his donations a secret because of her words in the past that good people who do good deeds don't leave their names. Her impression of him changes. She thinks he's Buddha, ha. By the way she's pretty frugal herself (not as much as him though) so seeing him being a donation angel and economical is perfectly within her ideal type of men.
@Bai Ri Meng: "Love and feelings are like samples (think beauty samples), when bits of it accumulate you'll get the full product."
[Ep6] Shen Yi has become the perfect CEO boyfriend. He organizes a dinner event for Meng Hui at a fancy restaurant. The stingy man actually gave her the menu for once and ordered the most expensive meal plus whatever she wanted. She had ordered the cheapest meal and he knew she was being considerate to him. He's giving out free prizes to lucky tables all to hide the present that he truly wanted to give her. It's a famous plastic surgeon's coupon. She smiles knowing he planned everything for her. He walks her home and asks her if the scar ever affected her. She smiles and says nope. She tells him that there's no girl who's 100% perfect. She's so close to perfect that's why she has a scar to take away that 1%. She happily tells him she's 99% perfect. Meng Hui returns home and asks her friend, Ah Tou, if she thinks Shen Yi likes her. Is it not obvious?
Meng Hui gave up the surgery for Wei Lei. Shen Yi found out and dropped an important meeting to find Meng Hui. He's comforting her for letting go the one chance to remove her scar. Seeing her kindness, he has decided to ask her out, "The scar on your cheek won't take away any percent of the feelings I have towards you." Pity? Love? Which is it. He hugs her and she accepts it.
Shen Yi is a whole new person now. Not only is he spending on his "99% girlfriend" but also on his secretary, Jiang Jiang, to give him some face at his high school reunion. Ah Tou also shows up to be his fake girlfriend.
@Bai Ri Meng: "We never thought of how useful hand creams are because they're too quiet but when its results slowly show then you realize the effects it gave you cannot be replaced."
[Ep7] Wei Lei wins the idol contest with her nose still bandaged. I completely missed the point of this contest. I have no idea why she won what she won. After winning, Wei Lei gives her crown and bouquet to Meng Hui. Wei Lei wants to be her friend and asks in a very odd way. She promises that she can share anything with her expect her man. That's when Shen Yi shows up and she sighs that she can take the man too. Shen Yi and Wei Lei end up fighting for her grabbing her back and forth so much that she's dizzy. She now has to choose between her new boyfriend and her new friend for who to have dinner with because neither want to share her tonight. She chooses Wei Lei.
After an uncomfortable lunch with his employees, Shen Yi drives her home. He reaches over the door to open it for her to leave but she thinks he's kissing her. She closes her eyes to wait for it. He lets her misunderstand and kiss her. I don't like this because he's doing this mostly out of pity. He's doing everything she wants because he thinks he owes her. He's at her home and finds her yearbook. He realizes she never attended the same school as him. There's no way she's the girl from his past. Uh oh.
Xu Xing Yao purposely gives Meng Hui the wrong dress code to an event. When she shows up in a ball dress when everyone is in casual clothes Shen Yi doesn't help her. She's utterly embarrassed and Dark Meng almost appears. Meng Hui confidently marches out to the golf field and proves her worth to the guest ignoring her embarrassment. Shen Yi appears again and he's dressed up in a suit to match her dress. He's trying to save her not knowing she already saved herself. After the event is over, he asks her if she can stop appearing at his events without him knowing. Oof. He wants a cooling period. Meng Hui doesn't even know what she did wrong.
@Bai Ri Meng: "Eye shadows are hints. It's reminding you who you are today."
[Ep8] Wei Lei helps Meng Hui get her revenge on Xu Xing Yao. Meng Hui is still heartbroken from Shen Yi's sudden cold attitude. Despite that she feels guilty he has been neglecting his company for her thus Dark Meng appears. The next morning Dark Meng shows up at Shen Yi's office lecturing him for being late in front of all his employees. She's not giving him any face at all. Shen Yi is taken back. She takes his CEO chair and demands him to call her Meng CEO. He is now her secretary. When his secretary walks in and calls her Meng Hui, Shen Yi slaps him and orders him to call her Meng CEO, ha. He even admits to all his employees that Meng Hui is his boss. And thus Meng Hui has become a CEO all of a sudden. He drives her to Ah Tou for consultation. From her diagnosis, he now feels bad that it's him who changed her to Dark Meng so now he's appeasing Dark Meng out of pity once again.
Dark Meng doesn't think his home is befitting that of a CEO and so Shen Yi takes her to Sui An's condo. The two temporarily live there. When it's just the two of them, Dark Meng tells him to call her Xiao Hui. He's taken aback once more. They go to a supermarket to buy food for the night. He's standing behind her and she tells him she wants the food on the right and the food on the left. While his arms are to the left and right of her, she quickly turns around and wraps her arms around his neck catching him off guard. Dark Meng is pretty good, lol.
Sui An and Shen Yi are cute. They're practically in couple gowns. I wonder when their story gets revealed and why Sui An is so loyal to him.
Second couple: Ah Tou and Jiang Jiang are the third couple living together tonight (first: ShenYi x DarkMeng; second: ShenYi x SuiAn, heh).
@Bai Ri Meng: Eyebrows are the soul of makeup. If it's pretty then it enhances our features. If it stands out too much then it becomes unnatural.
[Ep9] Dark Meng gives Shen Yi's company a complete makeover. She improves his relationship with his employees. She inspires Shen Yi to change his business motto for the better (it's not that they should create a foundation that can conceal scars but they should change the perception of scars). Isn't that harder? She protects him from business bullies and calls her his man. She's doing all these smart and impressive stuff for his business but Shen Yi goes and tells Xu Xing Yao about her disorder. Idiot.
Everyone's pulling an all nighter to complete the project led by Meng Hui. Shen Yi falls asleep because he's sick. When he wakes up to find everyone working hard to make his dreams come true, he's no longer the cheap boss he used to be and finally offers employee benefits. He comes across a mirror and finds an odd mark on his face. It's a a kiss mark that has the colour of Dark Meng's lipstick. Dark Meng looks over at him and smirks. Dark Meng is slaying this episode.
@Bai Ri Meng: In this world there is no one who's perfect and free of scars because scars are beautiful too. However, people who can think like this are perfect from my perspective.
[Ep10*] Xu Xing Yao has bulimia. It's oddly fitting for her character who stresses on "sophistication, self-discipline, and stylish". Her bulimia disorder is the manifestation of her strive for perfection. She tried to use the same hand cream trick to touch Shen Yi's hands but it's a trick only reserved for Dark Meng. Dark Meng had squeezed out too much cream and shared it with Shen Yi. He stares blankly at his hand not knowing what to do with the excess cream so Dark Meng rubs their hands together. Dark Meng's sense of confidence is admirable. Lin Jia Qi impresses me with her acting. The natural cuteness in her is completely gone. Her seduction of him is fun to watch. Shen Yi has fallen for her. They're about to kiss but his employees all show up at 4AM in the office to work. It's like a surprise party for their boss; they're showing off how early they're willing to work for him. For once Shen Yi wants them gone, LOL. He angrily closes the light and curtains to their office. Dark Meng is surprised at this and asks him what he wants. He sulks, "Work."
Saturday is Dark Meng's presentation day. Shen Yi has to choose between her or his scar girl (Sui An found out that his school reunion is on the same day). He chose his scar girl. Dark Meng tackles the presentation alone. It doesn’t help that Xu Xing Yao sabotages the presentation. It ends up being a total failure. When Shen Yi runs back to her, it's too late. Dark Meng faints over. She's back to being our normal Meng Hui.
Shen Yi's business is about to fail. However, his team stays loyal because of all the foundation Dark Meng had laid. Shen Yi also realizes he's already in love with Meng Hui. She’s also laid the foundation in him :)
Second Couple: Wei Lei is seducing Sui An. He's giving her nose a touch up. There's pain so she squeezes him back. She confronts him whether he hates like her. It's not that he hates her, he simply doesn't care. Is Wei Lei trying to seduce Sui An by being his plastic patient? It’s oddly romantic, I guess? Ha. He coolly wears his doctor robe in front of her and she's a goner. He doesn’t deserve a second lead role. Give this man a main lead again.
@Bai Ri Meng: Different brushes have different uses. A good makeup artist will expertly use each of her tools. A good boss is like that too.
[Ep11] Shen Yi needs sponsors and his only hope is his dad. He's not very fond of his father because of his late mother's strained relationship with his father. The full story isn't fleshed out yet but his dad probably abandoned his mother. Dad isn't willing to help his business at all because he doesn't see hope in his makeup company. When no one is able to help him, it's Meng Hui who sacrifices everything to save his company. She uses her social media account, Bai Ri Meng, to prove that his foundation is top quality. However, she exposes her scar to promote it. She's revealing her deepest insecurities for the world to see.
Meng Hui's contracts and sponsors are canceling her left and right because of her scar.. Shen Yi heroically saves her virtual platform making every online commentator jealous of his love for her. Meng Hui smiles as she reads the comments but when she finally meets up with Shen Yi she suggests they break up. She knows he doesn't like her. Except that's not the case anymore. ♪ Turn, turn it around now ♪. He holds her and kisses her. ♪ Please take me back ♪. They're back together and one of the first presents he gets for her a whole bunch of lipsticks. Why? Because they taste good. Meng Hui blushes after hearing that.
@Bai Ri Meng: Different lipsticks are for tackling different problems. Yesterday was a low-key type of red, today is a confident red, tomorrow is a lively red. Lipsticks are our armors.
[Ep12] Sui An is surprised Shen Yi actually bought him food. Shen Yi casually replies it's because he can't give discounted food to his girlfriend. Sui An chokes. He must be thinking why he was so nice to him all these years. Shen Yi shares with him that he wants to live with Meng Hui and take care of her. Despite Sui An being against it, our lovebirds are living together. Wei Lei is also against it because men are predators. She predicts all his moves like getting Meng Hui's clothes wet. The way he lifted her up away from the water :D. Although both their clothes are wet, it's not him with the dirty thoughts. It's Meng Hui who's hungrily staring at his white tee that's soaked onto his abs. Although Wei Lei predicted everything, she failed at predicting the bed. Shen Yi had prepared a bunk bed for them. Ha. Both girls are so disappointed in him. Other than the bed, their relationship is smooth sailing for the most part. Shen Yi's father makes an appearance and he's against Meng Hui being his daughter-in-law. Shen Yi reminds him he has no right to interfere because he never accepted him as his father .
Second Couple: Sui An tells Wei Lei not to waste time on him (and not to waste his time either). Wei Lei cries in front of him and pitifully leaves his office. It was all an act. When she's gone from his sight, she wipes off her tears and smirks. Girl, lol. Before leaving his hospital, she confronts a patient for changing her face for her boyfriend because it's just not worth it. Sui An overhears this and seems quite impressed at her speech. I'm anticipating this couple quite a bit now.
@Bai Ri Meng: Blushes are a type of protection. A little bit of it will add a layer of shyness but when it's overdone, the truth will be hidden. Too much blush will hide our real emotions.
[Ep13] Shen Yi's father gives Meng Hui money to tell her to leave his son. Their love can easily withstand this obstacle. It's the next obstacle that seems threatening. Shen Yi's scar girl shows up. She's called Xiao Ba (little scar). What a timely appearance and convenient name. He pities her and hires her. She's causing a scene in the office but playing the pity card on Shen Yi. When Jiang Jiang complains to Ah Tou, our smart psychologist, deduces Xiao Ba is a fake. There's no way a girl with such an obvious scar would be as obnoxious as her.
Despite Xiao Ba's appearance, Shen Yi's love for Meng Hui is unwavering. He doesn't want her to do her makeup in front of him. It's not that he doesn't like it but he wants her to sleep an extra two hours. Shen Yi's stepmom also tries to be the peacemaker between the father and son by meeting up with Meng Hui to support their relationship.
@Bai Ri Meng: Tattoo stickers are sometimes expert penmanship and sometimes garbage plasters. I think this is refering to Xiao Bao's fake scar.
[Ep14] Dark Meng is back. She mistakes Shen Yi as her brother. However, it's all a scheme between her and his step-mother to mend the father and son relationship. She keeps smacking his head in front of his father, ha. I'm not sure that's going to improve dad's impression of her though. He's already judging her on her scar. What's going to happen when he learns she has delusions of grandeur?.
Xiao Ba is still annoying. She's actually hired by Xu Xing Yao. Shen Yi is exhausted from dealing with Xiao Ba and needs comfort from Meng Hui. He kisses her and she responds to it but she forgot she's supposed to be Dark Meng. He's angry she lied to him and leaves her.
Wei Lei tells Meng Hui about Xiao Ba. Meng Hui misunderstands and the shock turns her into Dark Meng. When she wakes up, she calls Shen Yi her brother again. Her lover is now Sui An. She's probably not Dark Meng; Sui An senses this and helps her by admitting he's her boyfriend. Wei Lei isn't happy at all.

[Ep15] Dark Meng's memory is so messed up I don't even want to explain it. Dark Meng's brother is Shen Yi, boyfriend is Sui An, and mother is Shen Yi's step-mom. Shen Yi gets angry at Sui An over this. Huh.
Sui An's past is revealed. He was the "bully" who scared the young Shen Yi. That's why he's so unconditionally nice to Shen Yi! He's making up for his past mistake just like Shen Yi is doing for his scar girl. Sui An's sense of responsibility is even stronger than Shen Yi's. His involvement was so negligible that I really don't think he should feel this guilt. He was just more charismatic and straightforward as a kid while Shen Yi was scared of everything and anything. Also, this confirms that the real scar girl is Meng Hui. Essentially both boys are innocent but they both feel guilty and now they're both making up for it. Sui An has to make it up for both Shen Yi and Meng Hui (but more for Shen Yi). Shen Yi is Sui An's scar girl.
Sui An takes Meng Hui on a "date". His purpose is to make Shen Yi jealous. He wants to be their cupid but Shen Yi is oblivious. He's the only one who knows Meng Hui isn't Dark Meng without her telling him directly. In the Ferris wheel, Shen Yi is unhappy he's sitting across from them. When the ride shakes, Shen Yi's reflexively cares for Meng Hui while Sui An reaches for Shen Yi, lol. This bromance. Sui An soon takes his exit to accommodate Shen Yi and Meng Hui.
Mom and Xiao Ba act out mother and future-daughter-in-law in front of "Dark Meng". It's quite fun how these two hate each other. Within the act, Xiao Ba manages to steal mom's family heirloom and Mom painfully squeezes her cheek in return.
Second Couple: Ah Tou is the boss when some drunkards bully her and Jiang Jiang. He's the damsel in distress waiting for her to fend them off and kiss him.
Third Couple: Sui An buys cotton candy for a jealous spying Wei Lei. With the sweet, she's no longer feeling the sourness of jealousy. However, she's still upset at him for playing the boyfriend role with Meng Hui. It's her turn to make him jealous when she flirts with another man. They quickly make up when chance has it that she gets pushed into his arms. He holds her and she hugs him back.
@Bai Ri Meng: No matter how complicated the eye shadow is, it cannot match the firm/fixated gaze you have on me.
This episode started off horrible for me. I did not like the fake Dark Meng (two times in a row). I did not like how Shen Yi turning on Sui An. Luckily, the rest of the episode was breezy and cute. Mostly because of Sui An.

[Ep16] Shen Yi's father accepts Meng Hui and helps her fend off the annoying Xiao Ba. Dad and son also make up for good. It was so cute when the father and son bought the exact same birthday gift for Meng Hui. Shen Yi lectures Xiao Ba for showing off her scar and making everyone around her uncomfortable. Unlike her, Meng Hui spends two hours putting on makeup so that her scar doesn't affect people around her. An upset Xiao Ba pushes Meng Hui into the water. Witnessing everything, Wei Lei, our superwoman, high-kicks Xiao Ba into the water. Xiao Ba's scar washes off and it's exposed to everyone she's a fake.
After Meng Hui fell into the water and is saved it seems her memory is faulty. Can we stop it with her mental lapses? Please. She doesn't remember everything properly and thinks Dad doesn't approve of her. She leaves in the pouring rain. Dad has his reasons of not being super welcoming despite having a soft spot for her. He's found out she is the real scar girl. As a result, Shen Yi also learns the truth. Aaaaaand the guilt trip starts again. Omg. He finds her at a bus stop. He asks her if she's willing to forgive the man who gave her the scar. She says no. Huh? Wasn't she just saying how lucky Xiao Ba is to have him genuinely apologize to her? What. Show, you're not making sense.
Third couple: Wei Lei shows up at Sui An's office. Her face has an allergic reaction from the alcohol last night. She's whining and panicking about her face until Sui An flicks her forehead. He assures her he'll take care of her face. Her heart stops. She then uses her long legs to inch her wheeled chair closer to him. She tells him, "Do you know you're seducing me?" Does she know she's doing the same thing?

[Ep17] Sui An didn’t tell Shen Yi he knew about Xiao Ba being a fake because he wanted to make sure Shen Yi loves Meng Hui rather than pities her. Sui An is now certain and tells Shen Yi what he knows. Shen Yi shares his plans to reveal he's Zeng Jue to Meng Hui. Sui An approves of it and accompanies him. However, Meng Hui misunderstands that it’s Sui An who gave her the scar. Sui An willingly takes the blame. Meng Hui forgives him on the spot but Shen Yi knows she’s faking it. She can’t just easily forgive him but she doesn’t want to make Shen Yi uncomfortable being in the middle. There’s tears in her eyes as she’s smiling to him. I am very impressed with her acting. When Wei Lei learns that Sui An is Zeng Jue, she’s mad. She tells Sui An he shouldn’t have told the truth, “Lies that you tell forever are also truths.” Meng Hui didn't have to know this and now that she does she's forced to forgive Sui An because he's Shen Yi's best friend.
Shen Yi's love for Meng Hui is going overboard. Shen Yi meets Meng Hui’s mother. He’s so nervous he’s not even listening to mom's questions and he’s already surrendering all his love and all his money to Meng Hui. Mom just wants to know what he wants for dinner. Shen Yi's obsession with making her happy, scares Meng Hui. She's afraid to say she likes anything because the moment she says it, Shen Yi will buy it or do it for her. If she likes pandas then he’ll take a day off and book a plane ticket for it even if he has an important meeting.
Shen Yi plans a special event for Meng Hui. It’s a light show. She thinks this is a perfect spot for a proposal and jokingly puts an impromptu ring on his finger, telling him he’s hers now. He takes her to another spot and the words “Marry Me” light up. He really is proposing. She happily accepts it.
@Bai Ri Meng: If the foundation isn’t laid well, then all the touch-ups are just a false appearance of peace.
Ah Tou and Jiang Jiang have a few kisses of their own after he confessed to her last night. Ah Tou’s role is pretty awesome. Calm and confident. She sits on top of him and gives him seducing kisses. She’s got complete control of him.
Wei Lei receives loving messages from her two best friends: one says she might be dating; the other says she might by marrying. Wei Lei can’t admit lost to that and asks Sui An for a date. Everything on their dating course was normal until his car broke down, rain starts pouring, and they’re stuck in one hotel room with one bed. He thinks she planned everything. The more Wei Lei explains her innocence, the bigger the hole she dogs herself into. However, he’s willing to fall into that hole with her. After he finishes showering, he gives her a back hug but she’s no longer in the mood. She has learned that Sui An is taking the blame for Shen Yi. She calls him a liar. It’s okay for Sui An to lie if he was the culprit because he’s a third party in all of this but Shen Yi cannot. He’s Meng Hui's most important person. Anyone can lie but him. Sui An can’t argue back. She’s right. Remember when Wei Lei promised Meng Hui she’d never betray her for a man when she proposed to be her friend? She’s true to her words. She kicks Sui An out of bed. Her perfect chance to seduce him is gone.
After the marriage, the newly couple aren’t in honeymoon mode yet. Meng Hui finds a backpack in Shen Yi’s closet. It's the one she had given Zeng Jue. The truth slowly dons on her.
@Bai Ri Meng: When makeup is destined to be mottled, fixing it will be of no help. A chaos is destined to be a chaos, no damage control can contain it.
It’s the wedding planning day and the planners ask if they have childhood pictures to display. Shen Yi stutters at this point because once Meng Hui sees his pictures, she’ll know he’s Zeng Jue She helps him cover it up that she doesn’t have any pictures because her childhood wasn’t happy at all. The boys went through a whole day of rehearsal to get their testaments correct but after a few drinks everything is exposed: Sui An confesses he's taking the blame for Shen Yi and Shen Yi confesses he should never know Meng Hui know he's Zeng Jue. OKAY. Did anyone else roll their eyes at this scene?
Wei Lei is looking for Sui An in his office but he’s busy. In his office she finds all sorts of couple items and an incomplete puzzle of a couple. She demands to know who the girl is. Sui An replies, “Other than you, I haven’t loved anyone else.” She doesn’t believe it and goes to find Shen Yi thinking he would know who the girl is. Shen Yi knows. It’s Meng Hui. The couple items are his, not Sui An’s. However, in the couple items, Shen Yi also finds Sui An’s name tag from elementary school. Shen Yi connects the dots and realize Sui An is the one who “bullied” him.
@Bai Ri Meng: Exasperated all methods to fight against aging but nothing can resist the mark of time.
[Ep20] Shen Yi and Sui An get into a fist fight. Shen Yi can’t forgive Sui An for lying to him and questions his sincerity of their friendship. I think Sui An and Shen Yi are the OTP. And Jiang Jiang is their Cupid. I love Sui An but Shen Yi is the pretentious female lead. While he’s angry, has he thought of it from Meng Hui’s perspective at all? Meng Hui hears their argument and questions Shen Yi the same thing: is his love towards her real or out of pity? The night of our newly wedded couple is thus spent awkwardly.
The next morning Meng Hui is Dark Meng. To her, they’re ten years into their marriage. It’s 2030. She’s still the CEO of his company. Shen Yi quickly calls his office to hide every calendar that indicates it’s 2020. The employees go as far as changing their phone time to 2030. Dark Meng goes to work makeup-less. Technically she still has makeup on, she just doesn’t bother covering her scar. She doesn’t want to cover it up anymore. She also no longer loves Shen Yi. She wants a divorce. She knows the scar is his reason for being kind to her. He takes her to all the places they’ve been to to remind her he loves her. They arrive at the claw machine he couldn’t win the last time. He uses the machine to prove he loves her but no matter how many times he tries, he fails. Mirroring this, their marriage is also failing. However, there divorce process is complicated because one of them has a psychological disorder. Dark Meng is confused who has the disorder. Shen Yi lies that it’s him.
@Bai Ri Meng: Sometimes I also want to live in a beauty camera whether it is because I’m too lazy to wash my hair or to wear makeup. Even if it is cloudy or there’s a rainstorm, the filter in the app is always sunny. However once the camera closes, we have to return to reality.
[Ep21] Shen Yi makes up more lies to cover up his lies. He pretends to have an alternate memory. To him, they’re back in 2020 when they just married. Okaaaaaay. Shen Yi draws on Dark Meng pity to delay their divorce. Dark Meng plays Shen Yi’s role and appeases him. She pretends that it is 2020 and they’re still in love. She mistakenly thinks that ten years ago, Shen Yi’s soulmate is Xu Xing Yao. This is inline with her thoughts that Shen Yi never loved her and only cared for her for her scar. Dark Meng encourages Xu Xing Yao to take action and make Shen Yi hers. However Shen Yi only loves Dark Meng. He plays a game with Dark Meng. If their palms line up they’re meant to be. Dark Meng calls it children's play and anyone’s palms will line up. To prove it, Shen Yi calls over Xu Xing Yao who was cast to the side. She happily skips over to line up her palm with his but he doesn't even let their hands touch and declares they have zero fate. Show, how many times do you to need to make this girl be refused. Where’s her pride? Meng Hui questions him how long this line will last, “Forever is so long, can you guarantee that?” This girl’s expectations are so high. He uses a red marker to draw over their palm lines, under the desk, over the cupboard, on the wood floor all over the wood floor, on the couch on the couch!, up the wall the wall! to the ceiling. As long as he can do it, he will make the line as long as he can. It doesn’t need to be too long though, one lifetime with her is enough. Am I the only one freaking out over the furniture?
[Ep22] Everyone is at a bar. A bottle is flung at Ah Tou who’s saved by Jiang Jiang. The target is now Wei Lei who’s saved by Sui An. Last but not least, the bottle is aimed at Dark Meng who is saved by the manly Shen Yi who blocks it with his arm. Sure he looks cool, but can’t he be like the other guys and pull their girlfriends away and save himself from injury. Jeez.
There’s an awkward night of truth and dare that allowed the other couples to daringly share the same room with their lovers and face the truth of their relationship. Sui An and Wei Lei are cute. Sui An doesn't think he's the righteous and responsible person she thinks he is. Wei Lei assures him he’s the perfect person for her, there’s no one else more perfect than he is. He kisses her. Jiang Jiang and Ah Tou had a problem in their relationship. Jiang Jiang’s self esteem took a blow because Ah Tou is so out of his leagues. She's perfect, rich and beautiful. He ends up being cutely angry and cutely confesses he’s loved her since a long time ago. Back in Wei Lei’s room, she pushes Sui An onto the bed to continue their kiss. In Ah Tou’s room, she initiates a sweet kiss with Jiang Jiang. This whole truth and dare night was meant to help Shen Yi and Meng Hui, but the main characters are doing laundry in their room.

After these few days, Dark Meng realizes she loves Shen Yi. She can’t deny her feelings anymore. She doesn’t want to divorce him. However, Shen Yi wants to cure Meng Hui's scar once and for all. He wants her to go for the surgery. Miraculously, the famous doctor has a slot for her. Shen Yi learns it wasn’t by chance he got an appointment. Sui An traded himself for that opportunity. He is to work with the famous doctor in England for five years. When Shen Yi learns of this, he tearfully hugs his friend. Still in the embrace, Shen Yi tells him he’s forgiven him a long time ago. Sui An flashes a large smile. Sui An and Shen Yi are the true OTP.
Wei Lei and Sui An get into a fight. He wants her to go with him but she can’t just drop everything on the spot for him. She doesn’t like being last in his priorities. She rejects his offer but Sui An is determined to go. When Sui An is ready to board the plane, Dark Meng has decided to forgo the surgery. She doesn’t care about her scar anymore. She loves Shen Yi. He’s more important than her scar and she just doesn't want to leave him even if it's for one second.

[Ep23] Dark Meng convinces Shen Yi she really doesn’t care about the scar. But Shen Yi cares. This makes Dark Meng upset as she thinks he doesn’t like her scar. Shen Yi continues the pretence because he wants her to go for the surgery. He goes as far as telling her it’s because of her scar he developed a psychological disorder. This makes her guilty. That night, Shen Yi packs his bags to leave. I’m having a hard time understanding why and how we reached this point. Is this fight necessary?
[Ep24] It’s still the marriage. Wei Lei is the bridesmaid. I was wondering why Ah Tou wasn’t the maid of honour. Ah Tou is walking the bride down like the aisle (father role). Speaking of parents, Shen Yi’s father and stepmom are late. It’s cute and funny how they bicker about whose fault it is. They barely arrive to the venue on time but now they have to climb 26 flight of stairs because the elevators are down. They manage to broadcast a live speech to the wedding venue in the stairwell. Dark Meng realizes something’s wrong. No one else thinks it’s weird that the video message has a 2020 time stamp. She realizes she’s the one with illusion of grandeur. She slowly makes sense of everything and assures Shen Yi that even if she appears again, she’ll know he loves her. With that, she faints over. Meng Hui is set to come back. This signals that Meng Hui has completely healed from her PTSD and Dark Meng shouldn't appear again.
The coworkers help their boss win back Dark Meng. They invite Xiao Ba back to have a talk with Dark Meng. She reveals that when Shen Yi thought he was her scar girl, he could give her anything – anything but love. Therefore, the way he feels about Dark Meng is true love.
Shen Yi is drunk. Sui An drops him off at his home with Dark Meng. He’s so drunk, he’s angry at Dark Meng. He asks her how does one prove their love. He doesn’t know how. He asks her to teach him so that he can prove it to her. Dark Meng has already forgiven him and trusts he loves her but he’s too drunk right now for her to tell him. He faints over. Worried, Dark Meng sends him to the hospital. When he wakes up, everyone he knows is surrounding his bed. He happily learns Dark Meng has forgiven him and she will accept the surgery. However he asks Sui An to tell him the truth about his health. He's worried sick that everyone is surrounding him in the hospital bed. He’s fine. He fell asleep from too much alcohol. Shen Yi orders Jiang Jiang to call the planner but the guy hangs up on him. Ha. The wedding planned has had enough with this on and off couple. One minute they're marrying, next they're divorcing, then they're marrying again, then calling it off, and now finally marrying again. Jiang Jiang calls again and he's directed to a fake voicemail. Shen Yi, the CEO, speaks and the wedding planner hastily accepts his job again, haha.
The wedding commences. Sui An is walking down the stairs with Shen Yi with their motions in sync. Cute. The end! No, there’s one more episode but I honestly think these two make the cuter pair and it's all because of Sui An.
@Bai Ri Meng: We both sacrificed our most precious items for each other but only those in love with each other can receive the gift of magic.
Wei Lei realizes the culprit behind the timestamp is Xu Xing Yao. A cat fight begins between the two girls. The coworkers quickly camouflage the fight by having pillow fights of their own. After the fight, Wei Lei is worried about her nose. She calls the famous doctor. The nurse tells her it’ll be okay. She also reveals that Sui An promised to go to their England branch for an in-depth research about noses. Aw. So he does prioritize her. The next day, she packs her bag to leave with him. Sui An grabs her in for a hug and off they go to England.
Half a year later, the glasses female employee who had so little self esteem is now VP of the company and is brewing with confidence. Meanwhile, Ah Tou (who caught the bouquet) is no longer the alpha in her relationship. It’s Jiang Jiang who has her in his control.
Meng Hui boards a bus. Shen Yi gets on at the next stop. Just like episode 1, he’s still talking about his billion dollar contract on his phone. Passengers once again sneer at him but that doesn't matter. Meng Hui realizes she forgot to tap her bus pass. He must be psychic because he tapped for her. He tells her she owes him $1.80 RMB. Such cheap bus fares!! She kisses him to pay him back but one kiss isn’t enough.
They’re taking the bus to their elementary school. They both reflect on their past. The little Shen Yi stands up for Meng Hui (who already has a scar at this point) and admits he lied about her bullying him. Their scars are now completely healed whether it’s the physical ones or the emotional ones.

Remarks
[First Impression (Ep1-6)] I loved "My Youth". The sweet youthful chemistry between Li Jia Qi and Zhao Yi Qin had sucked me into that drama. Having the same actors reappear as another CP makes this a must-watch for me. Are they able to make magic happen again? I don't know. The story is a little weird. She's got a delusion of grandeur that supersizes her ego because of the scar she had sustained when she was younger. The person who gave her the scar is the male lead. Neither of them know that yet and now he has to date her alter ego so that he can get his hands on her foundation that can cover scars. She think it's real dating and he's faking it for the foundation. By Episode 4 she's already suffering heartbreak. By Episode 5 his attitude towards her takes a complete 180. It's no longer her pursuing him. It's him pursuing her. I have to say it's Episode 5 that saved this drama a bit for me. I much prefer having a normal Meng Hui and a sincere Shen Yi interacting. I also like the little heartfelt messages from Meng Hui at the end of each episode.
[Actors/Actresses] Li Jia Qi is playing Dark Meng better than I expected. She's so tiny and cute to have her play sexy so I'm glad she pulled it off. Zhao Yi Qin is still cute from Fake Princess. Although I do prefer him being a little colder such as in "My Youth". Fan Zhi Xin plays Sui An. I'm impressed by this actor. The first time I saw him was in Mountains and Oceans. I don't want to talk about that drama. Despite that awfulness, he did leave a favourable impression. Then I saw him in Eternal Love of Dream and he continued to impress given the small amount of screen time he had. I'm definitely in this drama more for the cast than for the story.
[Episode 9&10] I'm liking this drama more and more. It's deeper than I thought. I’m loving the theme in each episode that’s summarized (@Bai Ri Meng) using makeup as the premise. It is these episodes that have tapped into the drama’s essence: the insecurities of imperfection. Xu Xing Yao and Wei Lei’s pursuit for perfection has led one to an eating disorder (bulimia) and the other to an obsession with beauty (a plastic monster). Meng Hui says her scar doesn’t affect her but when others judge her because of it her self confidence shatters. This drama follows the journey of how these girls find the perfect balance to their imperfection. The Chinese title makes a lot more sense now. Imperfection is beautiful thing.
[Episode 16 Update] Can someone complain with me about Episode 16? There's so many annoying stuff that's going on, I have nowhere to vent. The saving grace of this episode is Wei Lei. Plus the Bai Ri Meng message.
[Review] Warning: there will be a rant forthcoming. But I’ll start off with what I like. Firstly, I appreciate Li Jia Qi’s acting. She has such a cute little stature I’m impressed she pulled off sexy, dark, and domineering when the drama needed her to. However, as well as she can act, her visual appearance and the personality of Dark Meng were just too jarring at times for me to fully embrace her role. Another person I love: Fan Zhi Xin’s Sui An. He’s effortlessly charismatic. He’s the only real contender against Meng Hui for Shen Yi, ha. I also love how each episode ends with a message captioned by Meng Hui’s social media profile. The messages are thoughtful and episodically thematic. If the message uses foundation as the topic, the episode will focus on foundations; if it’s about acne products there will be a scene about acne. I like thoughtful details like that.
I especially loved how it touched on social expectations of appearance from Meng Hui’s scar to Wei Lei’s plastic surgery to Xu Xing Yao’s bulimia. Unfortunately, this was also the most disappointing. The drama just flung Xu Xing Yao’s bulimia out the window and rendered her character as plot device. As for Wei Lei, I like her but her sense of self confidence doesn’t make sense. She’s the one who changed her appearance and yet she’s the one who’s the most confident. I’m not quite sure what message the drama wanted to send with her character. Be confident with plastic surgery? But she wasn’t? Meanwhile Meng Hui’s character goes conveniently crazy to drive inspirational messages to the audience. I love the idea behind it but her character is just intangible. Sane one minute, crazy the next. I cannot follow.
The drama wanted to recreate magic with Li Jia Qi and Zhao Yi Qing but they chose the wrong one. A story based entirely on guilt when the drama is a light romance is just so hard to love. When they’re at the peak of their relationship and I know he’s lying it becomes so hard to root for them especially when it makes so much more sense for him to admit he was the one who gave her the scar from the very beginning.
As for what I borderline hate: Shen Yi. He's a terrible male lead, such a coward. He's the source of every single problem. If he hadn't blamed the bullying on Meng Hui and apologized immediately, all this drama wouldn't have happened. Sui An taking all the blame is so unwarranted. It's Shen Yi playing victim when Sui An didn't even do anything. It's not fair how Sui An suffered the most when he did nothing wrong. Shen Yi continues to be a coward throughout the drama and he gets the unconditional love of Sui An and Meng Hui. Based on what merits? If he had just been honest when he thought she was his scar girl from the very beginning, there wouldn't be a break up and then make up and then a break up and then a make up – blah blah blah. The last straw for me was when he was unable to forgive Sui An and then have the audacity to fight Sui An about it. What a drama queen. Whatever Sui An did, Shen Yi was ten – no – a hundred times worse than him. Shen Yi hurt Meng Hui, lied about her bullying him and lied about being the one who hurt her. Sui An who's feeling the most guilt didn't even bully him. If the drama made Sui An the main character instead, I might have been supportive of the main couple. Who knows. I just really don’t like Shen Yi.
[Zhao Yi Qin's News] Right when My Girl was premiering, Zhao Yi Qin released this video where he apologized to his boss (Yu Zheng) for the "failure" of Fake Princess. It couldn’t meet expectations. He splashed himself with three large cups of water as punishment. Each splash had a reason which I can’t quite remember all of them and I honesty can't bear to watch it again. I remember the last splash was a punishment if My Girl couldn't perform well either. He wasn't supposed to take that splash (yet) because My Girl didn't even finish airing but he splashed himself anyways. At the end he's asking/begging his viewers to watch My Girl because he’s really confident that it will be an it show. Unfortunately. Sigh. Although it's done better than Fake Princess, it's not that much better.
The video could have been a publicity stunt to attract viewers to My Girl if you know how Yu Zheng works. Any publicity is good publicity. However, when I watch the video and see Zhao Yi Qin's eyes, I really wonder if this boy is okay. Whatever reason behind this video, it’s just uncomfortable to watch. I had written a large blurb on my disappointment in Zhao Yi Qin’s acting but I deleted it just because it doesn’t make me feel great to make a long rant about his acting while posting this video. In short, I find him uncharismatic. There are actors (small or big) that can just stand there and demand attention (Sui An) but Zhao Yi Qin isn’t one of them. This is his second strike for me.
[Verdict] Li Jia Qi’s tackle at dark and domineering is worth watching. The messages at the end of each episode are also thoughtful. However, overall, I think there are better light romances out there.
